00:00At our last stop in our series in partnership with Visit Horse Country, we are here at Spendthrift
00:07Farm.
00:08We're going to take a look at some stallions like Into Mischief, Authentic, and Forte.
00:14With the stallion tour, we now start at our B. Wayne Hughes Visitor Center, and so they
00:17are able to come in and they're able to see all these trophies like the Derby Trophy,
00:21and we start out with two videos that talk a little bit about our history just to give
00:24a complete overlay of what the history of horse racing is as a whole.
00:30So there is a bourbon decanter and a mint julep glass from the 1969 Kentucky Derby.
00:36That was the year Majestic Prince had won.
00:39This is one of my all-time favorite photos.
00:41I think it's incredible.
00:42It is of Nashua and Swaps, two of the greatest rivals in all of horse racing history.
00:49It was really good because I like the preview video for the first half hour, 20 minutes
00:54or so of what we had, and then going out and seeing the stallions and the stallion
00:57barn.
00:58I thought it was really detailed.
00:59We've gone to a lot of these before in the past, and I thought this was probably the
01:02most detailed farm tour we've been on.
01:06So that was really part of B. Wayne Hughes' vision for Spendthrift Farm.
01:09Towards the end of his life, he really wanted to get more fans into this sport.
01:14He wanted to open up these farms for people.
01:18I love seeing my favorite horse on Mojave Beach, but I enjoyed seeing the stallion show
01:24because they've got so many beautiful horses here.
01:29So this statue was actually created by a woman named Liza Todd.
01:32She was the daughter of the actress Elizabeth Taylor.
01:35She created this statue of Nashua and his lifelong groom, Clem Brooks.
01:41I thought our tour guide was the best tour guide we've had ever.
01:44She was very insightful to everything about the horses, their day-to-day life, their racing
01:50career.
01:51So it was excellent.
01:52Omaha Beach, one of my favorites.
01:55It was a really exciting freshman sire from last year and very, very popular.
02:01I fell in love with him back when he was supposed to run the Kentucky Derby, and I've been in
02:07love with him ever since.
02:09This is authentic.
02:11This is our 2020 Kentucky Derby champion.
02:14Now that day in the Kentucky Derby, he actually ran the seventh fastest time of all time.
02:21I mean, just being able to see these stars up close, I mean, a lot of people on their
02:25bucket list is going to the Kentucky Derby.
02:28And so they're able to come here and see a Derby winner, and if they come on the shuttle
02:31tour, maybe some future Derby winners.
02:33You never know.
02:34I think she said there were like 60 full-time employees, so you can tell there's a lot of
02:38hands touching the horses and taking care of them.
02:41It's just a very clean and very nice facility.
02:44I think that they're taken meticulous care of, and I think that when people see them
02:50for the first time, they're just amazed at their size and their personalities kind of
02:56shine through.
02:58So I think the big takeaway is just also hopefully being able to see that these horses are so
03:04well cared for and the love and the care that go into each horse, and hopefully being able
03:09to take that away and influence some other people as well.
03:14In Nemishchief, I love his story.
03:17So we had actually bought him when he was two years old for $180,000.
03:22That was before he ever raced.
03:24But in Nemishchief, he has been the number one general leading sire for five consecutive
03:28years.
03:29He is definitely going down in history as one of the greatest of all time.
03:34We want to be able to get people interested in these horses, and so, you know, when they
03:38go to Keeneland, now that they see a progeny of Nemishchief, they're like, oh, I saw him
03:41yesterday.
03:42It's just a great connection there in building those relationships between these guests and
03:48these farms and these horses as a whole.
