00:00It's a rare thing to see the dam of this year's Derby winner or whatever the current year's
00:19Derby winner up for sale and she is a very rare commodity and she's a very, very good
00:23broodmare.
00:24She's not just the dam of an unbeaten Derby winner in Desert Crown.
00:29Just five foals of racing age have all won, including another Group 3 winner and obviously
00:36Desert Crown is the crowning glory for Desert Berry and he's a superstar in his own right.
00:43Desert Berry, she's out of a Juddmunt family originally which they got rid of and I also
00:47owned a grandmother, her mother, and I bought her as a foal from Tattersalls many years
00:55ago with the first four base mares that we had and she's the last of those base mares.
01:01She's a beautiful mare, she's the right age and she's carrying the foal brother to the
01:06Derby winner so this is it.
01:09The best chance anyone's ever going to get to buy another Derby winner.
01:14She's an individual, you know she's different and as you've seen today she walks really
01:19well and she's got a beautiful action.
01:21Her temperament is, she's not a lover of people but she will, if you sit with her, she'll
01:27come and sit with you but she's just an individual horse, she's more like an alpha mare really.
01:32But she is kind, yeah, she's not a nasty horse at all, she's a quality mare.
01:38Whoever is successful will have a really good mare to go further with anyway, she'll have
01:44probably 6, 7, 8 more foals and she's also got the foal brother, isn't she, inside so
01:49that's going to be great.
01:50And I've also checked that Desert Crown is doing really well now so he'll be ready and
01:55they're really excited about him for next year so they're going for him to go places
01:59so it's good, it's progressive and it shows that the horses are progressive as well that
02:03she produces.
02:04The Derby, that was beautiful, it was a proper Derby as well and you did get, everybody was
02:11looking for a horse that could really win the Derby properly and it was a brilliant
02:16ride, brilliant bit of training and he won Locker Champion and stood out a mile.
02:21That was magnificent but for me the Dante was the thing where I saw a wonderful walking
02:26horse, an athlete and that made it for me more than anything, to produce a wonderful
02:32horse.
02:33The decision to sell it, I mean at the end of the day this is a business, sometimes you
02:38have to let things go but beautifully we have the families so we have those families and
02:44I'm quite sure they're going to be successful.
02:46I think they'd like to keep her but they're realistic as well so they know that we have
02:51to sometimes sell things and this is a great opportunity, they can reinvest the money into
02:57the stud and if it's reinvesting the money into the stud everybody should be happy, you
03:02don't want to lose anything do you really?
03:05But it's also going to give her an opportunity to go on in later life so whoever buys her
03:11is going to look after her so I know she's going to be alright.
03:15Gary Robinson is in relative terms a smallish breeder, he's based locally just a few miles
03:21outside Newmarket so there's a great story attached to Desert Berry and again it's fantastic
03:28to see breeders like this being so well rewarded and Desert Crown, we haven't seen the best
03:34of him yet, the great thing is he'll be back next year.
03:37I think the team there always thought he had a big future and to do what he's done,
03:43we forget this horse has only raced three times in his life, he won his maiden as a
03:46two year old, he wins the Dante Group 2 Derby Trial in a normal year, the most prestigious
03:52Derby Trial of all, he won that very impressively and then was spectacular in the Derby, he's
03:58a special horse and she's a special mare.
