00:00Airdrie Stud is looking forward to the upcoming Keeneland September sale, where they will
00:07be represented by two first crop yearling sires in Preservationist and Divisa Darrow.
00:12We sat down with the farm's Director of Sales, Jocelyn Brooks, and talked about the pair
00:16of stallions and the trends she sees in their yearlings.
00:20A lot of people are interested in Preservationist, they obviously know he's a son of Arch,
00:24they know he was a very expensive yearling, that he's a big beautiful horse, but they
00:29also, I think, and we, before he came to Stud, there's a misconception, was he a later
00:33maturing horse?
00:34Was he not an early horse?
00:36So our big conversation that we've had with breeders has been that he was very precocious
00:41and he was, as a two-year-old, the best training horse in the barn, as they said.
00:47And so when he broke his maiden going six furlongs and 109 in one, and ran a three rag,
00:52you say, oh gosh, I'm thinking of the horse that won the Woodward, that won the Suburban,
00:55I didn't realize that he had this speed.
00:59And so it's a fun conversation to have when they love his family, they love his pedigree
01:03and his physical, but they also now know that not only was he a grade one winner going long,
01:08but that he also had that speed that everyone's after.
01:11We've been really excited about Preservationist foals.
01:13We actually sold a handful at November last year and we were very pleased.
01:18They all were nice physicals, they sold very well, and they sold to the right buyers.
01:23They were big strong horses, even as weanlings, and I think you'll see a bunch of them back
01:27this September.
01:29When you see the individual physicals and this pedigree on top of everything, we just
01:34think that he's going to have a really strong sale.
01:37Our Book One Preservationist is out of Church-by-the-Sea, and Church-by-the-Sea is a family that everyone
01:43well knows.
01:45Not only has she produced multiple Graded Stakes winners herself, but that family goes
01:49to Cairo Memories and to Zandon.
01:51On top of that, he is what you want to see in a Book One horse.
01:55He's very big and strong, he's beautiful, he's athletic, he's got a really nice way
01:59of going, and he's been so good through this whole prep.
02:04Our Preservationist colt out of Lifetime Memory comes from another favorite family on the
02:09farm here, Lifetime Memories out of Silver Reunion.
02:13He's a stunning physical, powerful looking, but still very fluid moving.
02:19We think he'll be very popular with his physical, plus that really nice family that we've had
02:23for all those years.
02:25Prez's pedigree, top and bottom, are two of the best pedigrees.
02:28You'll really find those Middlebrook and King Ranch families that go back for generations
02:34of just top quality horses.
02:36We've bred quite a few mares to him ourselves, so we'll have a lot of them in the sale, starting
02:40right in Book One.
02:42DeVisa Darrow has been a really fun horse to have on the farm here, being by probably
02:48one of the best, if not the best, international turf sire there is in Hittin's Joy.
02:53He is just from a female family that you don't really get a chance to breed into very often.
03:00He won back-to-back Grade Ones at Churchill Downs, and actually his first race at Churchill
03:04Downs, only his third race, was one of his most impressive, his first stakes win.
03:09Just a beautiful horse, he's very well put together, he's correct, and he definitely
03:14looks like a horse that would be a very fast turf horse.
03:17His foals have followed in his footsteps in that they're very similar to him.
03:23The DeVisa Darrow out of Keep Crossing, who is a stakes winner herself, is a good example
03:28of a DeVisa Darrow, because they really do favor him.
03:32He looks like a DeVisa Darrow 2.0.
03:35A lot of them really do look like this.
03:36They definitely have his balance, his build, his fluid movement, and hopefully they have
03:42his feet.
03:43We ourselves have bred 15 to 20 mares to DeVisa Darrow every year that he's been here.
03:48We really believe in the horse.
03:50You know, with the loss of Hittin's Joy, who will never be replaced, but it's nice to have
03:54such a well-bred son of his that was so accomplished on the track, standing here at Airdrie.
03:59So people are excited by his speed, for sure, and of course his pedigree has drawn quite
04:06a few people into him.
