00:52Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos, from Televisa Studios
00:56in Caracas, Venezuela, we begin with the news.
01:13In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro asserted that 12 years after Commander Guachavez passing,
01:18his legacy and the Bolivarian Revolution lives on.
01:22In the Assembly of Communes, the Venezuelan head of state, together with thousands of
01:26Venezuelan men and women who marched from different points in Caracas to gather at the
01:304F Mountain Barracks, paid tribute to the memory of Commander Guachavez Ríos.
01:35President Maduro also affirmed that the people continue standing victorious and moving forward
01:40in the 21st century revolution in Latin America and the Caribbean.
01:44The Venezuelan president also highlighted the implementation of a special drive to communal
01:48banks and their productive projects.
01:52Now at this time, still, all the mobilizations are coming with men and women, working men
01:59and women, people from the communes and young people, indigenous people are coming to pay
02:05tribute to the immortal spirit of Hugo Chavez, unforgettable, immortal, the victorious commander,
02:16the eternal commander of all battles.
02:22In another part of his address, the Venezuelan president praised the legacy of Commander
02:25Guachavez and said that the historic Bolivarian leader will live on for decades.
02:33Because every day that a child or a young person comes and goes to school and receives
02:40his or her education, public education, there is Chavez alive.
02:46Because he brought the public education to the people and every time that someone from
02:56the neighborhood wakes up and comes to participate and discovers everything that the new democracy
03:06has to offer of the participative democracy, there in that democracy that is being born
03:15that today is gaining strength, there in that construction of a democratic and modern state,
03:23a communal state, there is Chavez alive and he will be alive for years, for decades.
03:34President Maduro also took time to highlight Telesur's wide coverage of the carnivals
03:38in Latin America and the Caribbean and congratulated the employees and the presidency of the multinational
03:43media outlet for what he described as a great job.
03:47Telesur was great, as Celia said it, they did a great job, great job Telesur, really,
03:57that is why you are truly a great, the best channel for, as international character for
04:04Latin America and the Caribbean.
04:06Also to the workers, to the journalists and their president Patricia Villegas.
04:17The Venezuelan president also rejected the recent U.S. sanctions against the oil company
04:21Chevron and said that with that measure, Washington is hurting itself while Venezuela continues
04:26to grow.
04:28And the Bolivarian revolution in the framework of the law made a great, great agreement with
04:38the U.S. enterprise Chevron and now it was sanctioned.
04:43The U.S. government sanctions a U.S. company trying to hurt the Venezuelan economy and
04:52they are hurting themselves because we continue to grow and we continue to develop and nothing
05:00will stop us.
05:01And Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel also joined those who praise the legacy of Commander
05:05Hugo Chavez.
05:06The Cuban leader wrote on X, one lives but does not live, said the best friend of Cuba
05:11and 12 years after his painful departure, we can confirm it, Chavez lives in the hearts
05:16of his people and of all those who believe that a better world is possible if we fight
05:21to achieve it.
05:28On the other hand, Bolivia's President Luis Arce also joined the international praise
05:31of Commander Hugo Chavez's legacy 12 years after his passing.
05:35In an official communiqué, the Bolivian leader expressed, on a day like today, 12 years ago,
05:40Hugo Chavez, historic leader of the Bolivarian revolution, departed to eternity.
05:44During his life, he fought tirelessly to build a more just and egalitarian Venezuela.
05:49He embraced the socialist ideology and revitalized it for the 21st century.
05:53Like few others, he strove for a genuine Latino-Caribbean continental integration and to spread the thought
05:59of Simón Bolívar together with Fidel Castro.
06:02He was the founder of ALBA and the driving force behind SALAC.
06:06In Bolivia, he supported the process of change that the people opened with the struggle.
06:12His work and thought gathering, speeches, interviews, television addresses and other
06:15documents are essential material for the formation of socialist women and men of this
06:20continent today, everlasting glory to Hugo Chavez.
06:30And in Venezuela, a recent poll conducted by Interlaces, an agency specializing in public
06:35opinion studies, markets and consulting, shows that the majority of Venezuelans reject illegal
06:40sanctions imposed on the nation.
06:42The survey asks, do you agree or disagree that the United States imposes economic and
06:46financial sanctions against the people with the aim of ousting President Nicolás Maduro?
06:5187% of those polled rejected the use of sanctions against the Venezuelan people, with only 9%
06:57saying they agreed with the coercive measures, and 4% chose not to respond.
07:02The poll's results show the will of the Venezuelan people to create their own future free of
07:07sanctions and foreign interference.

08:18the Palestinian people and resemble apartheid regimes.

10:01help to extinguish the flames.
10:03For the moment, the initial total of one dead and 84 houses damaged remains unchanged.

11:57Argentina experiences a second massive blackout in the city of Buenos Aires and Casa Rosada's
12:02seat of government.
12:03The authorities report that the blackout occurred around 6 o'clock in the morning and in the
12:08afternoon before 1 p.m. local time.
12:10A second blackout occurred affecting thousands of users.
12:14The nation's Congress is also suffering the consequences of the blackout, with intermittent
12:20outages and no telephone or internet networks functioning.
12:24Authorities warn that the blackout has caused traffic chaos due to the lack of power at
12:28traffic lights as well as the collapse of high-voltage power lines along the coast,
12:33which has affected several substations in the country.
12:37The Mexican government points out that the country is facing a defining moment after
12:43the entry into force of the tariff measure imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
12:48President Claudia Sheinbaum said that she could get other trade partners, such as Canada,
12:52if the 25 percent tariff remains in force.
12:55The president affirmed that there will be no submission on the part of the Mexican
12:59nation, highlighting that the country's economy is doing well.
13:02In addition, the head of state said that she will wait for the call with her U.S. counterpart
13:07on Thursday, March 6, with the aim of suspending the tariff measures.
13:17What I can tell you is that this is a very decisive moment for Mexico, subject to what
13:23happens these days, until Sunday.
13:35There won't be solutions.
13:38Mexico is a great country.
13:43We, Mexicans are brave and we resist.
13:50The Mexican people is very strong, and our economy is doing well.
14:02But we will not be submissive.
14:05And if the situation does not change, we will look to Canada and other countries.
14:11On the other hand, the Mexican head of state affirmed that her government did what it had
14:15to do to keep the dialogue with the United States open.
14:22We did our homework.
14:24We have not even closed the doors of dialogue.
14:28Far from it.
14:29Because those doors have to be open all the time.
14:32We have carried out coordinations.
14:35And we reached many agreements during this month.
14:38But despite that, there is a decision by the U.S. government to unilaterally impose
14:43a 25 percent blanket tariff.
14:46This is not our responsibility.
14:48It is a decision of the President of the United States that it is not only against Mexico.
14:53This is particularly against Canada.
14:56Against China, which yesterday responded very strongly.
15:00And the U.S. says that on April 2 there will be reciprocal tariffs for other countries.
15:06That is to say that if a country imposes taxes on its imports, on its imports from
15:10the United States, then the United States will impose tariffs on that country the same way.
15:20With the purpose of raising awareness from an early age, Cuba starts a new campaign against
15:24gender violence called AIS, in which the teenagers from the Caribbean island are the protagonists.
15:31Let's see more with our correspondent Fabiola Lopez.
15:50AIS is a campaign that focuses on Cuban teenagers and aims to contribute to the change of social
15:55imaginaries that legitimize gender-based violence.
15:59The initiative, which is coordinated by national and international organizations, includes
16:03debates on different expressions of gender violence and its effects, as well as the patriarchal
16:10roles and stereotypes at its core, offering tools to counter gender violence in everyday life.
16:19What distinguishes AIS is that precisely the collective construction of all the messages
16:24have been led by Cuban adolescents, groups of young boys and girls who have gathered
16:29to think about the violence they experience nowadays and what positive messages they want
16:33to give against it, in favor of popular feminisms and counter hegemonic masculinities.
16:46The campaign's messages motivate people to reflect on self-care, respect for diverse
16:51bodies, the construction of new masculinities, equitable interpersonal relationships, mutual
16:57help, support networks and sisterhood.
16:59The project aims at the prevention, awareness and understanding of these issues.
17:07It is meant to raise awareness, to look for tools and ways for our young people and adolescents
17:13to be able to solve all those contradictions, which are even described in the medical literature
17:19and that occur at this age.
17:23It is also aimed at giving tools to the family on how to approach issues with adolescents.
17:31The renowned comic book character Lola Vendetta, which captures the social criticism for the
17:36invisibilization of women, came from Spain to take part in the AIS campaign.
17:41Its creator, artist and illustrator Raquel Riva created a mural together with teenagers
17:46from the island.
17:47AIS will be present in social networks but also in public spaces, communities and mass media.
17:56It has been wonderful working with them, very gratifying for me.
18:00And also very nice to see how they are leading the campaign from the inside themselves.
18:06I think that's the main difference, it has not been a project of adults explaining the
18:10world to teenagers, but a project of teenagers talking to the world.
18:18It is a way to open the mind to go beyond the social networks.
18:24We were doing workshops with Raquel, the creator of Lola Vendetta, we were doing the murals,
18:30we painted, but this is just the beginning.
18:33The learning experience has been super intense and super cool.
18:37The campaign will be implemented until 2026 in the provinces of Havana, Granma, Las Dunas
18:47and Guantanamo.
18:49The adolescents who take part in the initiative say that their dream is simply to live in
18:54an inclusive world without gender violence, where the rights of all people are respected
19:00regardless of skin color, sexual orientation, gender identity, disabilities, place of residence,
19:06purchasing power or access to technology.
19:10And to do so, they warn, they will try to tell their own stories in a different way
19:14and from their own perspectives.
