00:57Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra García from Telesur Studios in
01:01Caracas, Venezuela.
01:02We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:17ALBA-TCP member countries met in Caracas to assess the political situation in the region
01:22in view of the provocations of the international far-right.
01:26One of the main objectives of this extraordinary meeting is the assessment of economic, social
01:31and political progress.
01:32The agenda will address the respect for human rights and the dignity of migrants, as well
01:37as the defense of sovereignty and peace in Latin America and the Caribbean as a result
01:41of the most recent U.S. decisions.
01:48The president of Haiti's transition council, Leslie Voltaire, has linked the increase in
01:52disappearances in the country to organ trafficking, one of the many ills plaguing the nation.
01:58Recently the security forces confirmed that several kidnapped farmers were still unaccounted
02:04for.
02:05The Haitian media emphasized that there are no ransom demands or anything similar.
02:10The acting head of government claims, in the context of these disappearances, that there
02:14is an organ trafficking network known as Pearl of the Antilles, which is an organization
02:20with international connections that takes advantage of the vulnerability of Haitian
02:24citizens in the midst of a tremendous political, social and criminal crisis.
02:41Flash floods in northern Australia have resulted in one fatality and forced the evacuation
02:46of over 2,100 residents so far, as heavy rains continue to wreak havoc.
02:52The Queensland town of Inkham has been particularly hard hit, with a major confirming the death
02:58of a woman in her 60s after a rescue boat capsized.
03:02Queensland Premier David Crecifoli warned that further rain and strong winds are expected,
03:08which could exacerbate the already dire situation.
03:11The Bureau of Meteorology has reported rainfall totals exceeding 600 millimetres in some areas,
03:17with predictions of continued severe weather into Monday.
03:20Authorities have issued emergency alerts for low-lying coastal areas, warning of life-threatening
03:25flooding as water levels rise rapidly.
03:30When the river bank broke, it just came down Mystic Avenue and wiped out one side of the
03:37street.
03:38There's a lot of people down there with no food, no power obviously, people aren't coping
03:47and there's no centre for anyone to go here to get some help.
03:51I definitely believe there's a change in mother nature because they're getting more severe
03:56and this one especially is being spread out.
04:00When you look at Cairns right down to Bowen mate, there's something to think about.
04:05But first, remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesure English, where you'll find news

04:11We'll be right back, stay with us.
04:13Welcome back to From the South.
04:35The scandal unleashed by the first investigations into the US Agency for International Development
04:40US aid could lead to its permanent closure.
04:43British media, Latin American far-right leaders are among the recipients of millions of dollars
04:48in aid.
04:49Elon Musk, head of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, has already administratively
04:55dismissed several officials who tried to block access to sensitive documents.
05:00The first revelations confirmed the transfer of millions of dollars to alleged political
05:05leaders in Latin America to help migrants who are now being expelled by Washington in
05:10deplorable conditions.
05:11The British BBC network is also at the centre of the controversy, having been found to have
05:17received funds from the US Agency, even though it is expressively forbidden to receive foreign
05:23funding.
05:28In this context, tech tycoon Elon Musk denounced the United States Agency for International
05:33Development financed research for biological weapons, such as Covid-19.
05:38Elon Musk exposed in his social networks that, with tax money, the US aid helped to investigate
05:44and spread the pandemic that caused millions of deaths in the world.
05:49The tycoon also stated that the US Agency also contributed to the production of heroin
05:53in Afghanistan, accusing them of being a criminal organisation.
05:58Musk accused as well the US aid of being linked to coup d'état in Haiti, Ukraine, Egypt
06:03and other countries in the world.
06:09In the United States, rescue operations continue after the mid-air collision between a US Army
06:15Black Hawk helicopter and a passenger jet over Washington DC on January 29th that claimed
06:2067 lives.
06:22Rescuers have recovered dozens of victims from the icy Potomac River, with 55 identified
06:28so far.
06:29Crews are working to lift the plane's fuselage as human remains are sent to the medical examiner.
06:34Washington Fire Chief John Donnelly expressed confidence that all victims will be retrieved
06:40despite the challenging conditions.
06:42The National Transportation Safety Board is still investigating the cause of the tragedy,
06:47which killed 64 passengers and crew on the jet and three soldiers aboard the helicopter.
06:57South Africa joined the list of countries attacked by US President Donald Trump on Sunday,
07:02who assured that he will suspend all future funding to the country.
07:06Without presenting further details or evidence, he assured that land is being confiscated
07:11in that nation and that certain classes of people are being treated very badly.
07:16South Africa is one of the member countries of the powerful BRICS bloc, an alliance that
07:21the new tenant of the White House has already harshly criticised and intimidated, as he
07:26has done with Mexico, Canada and the European Union, with the imposition of tariffs that
07:31could even reach 100%.
07:34The Republican also assured that the serious facts that he accuses the African nation of
07:38are silenced by the extremist left-wing media.
07:48For his part, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Monday rejected his US counterpart's
07:53comments, saying that Pretoria, like Washington, had always had laws regulating land use.
07:59President Trump said he would suspend aid to South Africa, accusing its government of
08:03illegal land expropriation and human rights abuses.
08:07But the South African president reiterated that his country is a constitutional democracy
08:11rooted in justice and equality.
08:13He also reminded the White House that the expropriation act was not an instrument of
08:18confiscation but a legal process, and that the only funding they received from Washington
08:23is related to the HIV-AIDS programme.
08:32Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called on Canadians to boycott US products and only buy national ones.
08:38The Prime Minister urged citizens to check product labels and choose products manufactured
08:43in the country, suggesting that, whenever possible, choose Canada.
08:47Trudeau also called on Canadians not to vacation in the US, but to do so in Canada.
08:52The call aims to fight against the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.
08:57According to information from the Oval Office, President Trump has scheduled a meeting with
09:01Mexican President Claudio Chambon and the Canadian Prime Minister.
09:10European Union leaders have further convened to respond to US President Donald Trump's threats.
09:16The 27 European Union members have met Monday morning at the Royal Palace in Brussels.
09:21Briefings refer that the first part of the agenda will focus on geopolitics and relations
09:26with the US.
09:27They further recall that US President Trump announced to impose very soon tariffs on the
09:32European Union.
09:33The GOP head of state had justified such hostile policy by accusing Europe of taking advantage
09:39of the US.
09:40Moreover, the agenda includes both a meeting with NATO's Secretary to discuss issues
09:45related to Russia and an encounter with the British Prime Minister.
09:54Several Panamanian sectors are demanding that the President José Raúl Molina resign after
09:58having welcomed the US Secretary of State.
10:01They accuse the President of lacking transparency on the agreements reached with the head of
10:05the US diplomacy, Marcos Rubio.
10:08Former Supreme Court of Justice Harry Díaz rejected the decision on Panama's relations
10:13with China and wondered if the legal cost of the lawsuits that could be brought by Chinese
10:18companies would be taken by the United States.
10:21Meanwhile, trade union leaders Saúl Méndez demanded clarity on the unilateral agreements
10:26made by the President and accused him of lying to the people in a shameless manner.
10:36This lie can't bring about less than demanding that Molina resign, as he is informing that
10:40Rubio has clearly left in relation to the canal, that everything is fine, etc., and
10:47Rubio just said that they gave an ultimatum, and that he is going to inform the Central
10:53American countries that they are going to retake the canal.
10:58Rubio is declaring war on the Panamanian people by declaring that they are not interested
11:02in either sovereignty or self-determination.
11:07On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in the United States to
11:10meet with President Donald Trump.
11:13Netanyahu's visit comes as at a time when the indirect negotiations between Israel and
11:18Hamas are to begin in order to further define the truce agreement.
11:22Before traveling to the United States, Netanyahu assured that the war has served to change
11:26the face of the Middle East.
11:28The Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer and the liaison with the families of the hostages,
11:35accompanied the Israeli Prime Minister.
11:37The International Criminal Court said that U.S. authorities should arrest Netanyahu on
11:42charges of war crimes and genocide against the Palestinian people.

12:25Welcome back to From the South.
12:27In Palestine, the Gaza Government Information Office disclosed that Israel committed 9,268
12:33massacres during more than 471 days of genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza.
12:39According to statistics published in a report, Israeli aggression against Palestinians in
12:43the coastal enclave left more than 61,000 people dead.
12:48In addition, Israeli attacks damaged 150,000 homes and displaced two million Palestinian
12:54civilians from their homes.
12:55The report also noted that Israeli forces killed 1,155 health sector workers in Gaza,
13:02205 journalists and 194 members of civil defence teams since October 2023.
13:09Also, 34 hospitals were out of service due to the attacks by the Israeli army.
13:20The Israeli siege against the city of Jenin continues for the 14th consecutive day, leaving
13:24at least 25 people killed to date.
13:27Zionist forces blew up some 20 residential buildings in the eastern part of the Jenin
13:32camp in the occupied West Bank.
13:34Local authorities denounced that Tel Aviv is carrying out a campaign of forced displacement,
13:39which affects some 15,000 Palestinians.
13:42Authorities also warned that occupation troops have no respect for international humanitarian
13:46law since their attacks also targeted health centres and members of the press who were
13:51covering the news.
13:55And for a second consecutive day, Israeli occupation troops maintained their military
14:01aggression south of the occupied West Bank town of Tubas.
14:05Between Al-Far camp and the town of Tammoun, the Zionist army razed the roads and infrastructure
14:10of both localities, blocking the access point with dirt mounds.
14:15Occupation forces also stormed and raided the homes of residents, forcing them to flee.
14:20In addition, Israeli forces detained more than 10 citizens between the town of Tammoun
14:24and the camp, while bulldozers destroyed an aqueduct between the town of Tammoun and
14:29the village of Atov.
14:36The Israeli occupation forces remain deployed at the Rafah border crossing to prevent the
14:41return of Palestinian citizens to the Gaza Strip.
14:44According to local authorities, Israel is not only preventing the return of Gazadi citizens
14:49to their homes, but it's also blocking the departure of the wounded to medical centres
14:53and hospitals abroad, where they would receive medical treatment.
14:58In this regard, the activity at the border is limited to the departure of 100 patients
15:02and wounded in need of treatment in Egypt and 50 people in a humanitarian situation.
15:08The restrictions on the movement of the Palestinians constitute a violation of the ceasefire agreement
15:13reached between Israel and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, which entered into
15:18force on January 19th and consists of three phases, setting out a series of humanitarian
15:23and political commitments for both parties.
15:32The Russian Federation extends to 40 the list of states with access to the foreign exchange
15:37and financial derivatives market after authorising the entry of Mexico and Argentina.
15:43Until now, Brazil, Cuba and Venezuela were the only Latin American countries authorised
15:47to participate in the Russian foreign exchange and financial derivatives market, which was
15:53established last September 2023.
15:55The government reported that this measure will make it possible to increase the efficiency
16:00of the mechanism of direct conversion of the national currencies of friendly and neutral
16:05countries and the formation of direct rubble quotations to meet the demands of the Russian
16:10economy for payments in national currency.
16:12Cambodia, Ethiopia, Laos, Nigeria and Tunisia also joined the list of authorised countries.
16:24The North Korean government condemned Monday the statements of US Secretary of State Marco
16:28Rubio, who called the nation a rogue state.
16:31Rubio's statements posed a serious political provocation, willing to tarnish the image
16:35of a sovereign state.
16:37The North Korean administration ensured that Rubio had expressed the White House's incorrect
16:42view of the Asian nation.
16:43Furthermore, following the US Secretary of State's remarks, the North Korean government
16:48stated that they will never help boost Washington's interests in the region.
16:52Meanwhile, US experts had described Rubio's statements as a reckless, especially since
16:57the US president has designated Richard Grenell as his special representative for North Korea.
