00:00UNITED STATES PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP HAS NOMINATED FLORIDA SENATOR MARCO RUBIO
00:17TO LEAD THE STATE DEPARTMENT DURING HIS NEXT TERM AT THE WHITE HOUSE.
00:27The Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah attacked for the first time the headquarters
00:31of the Ministry of War and General Staff of the Zionist regime of Israel.
00:40Andara revealed that more than 26 million people were forced to move from their homes
00:45in 2023 after being affected by the global climate crisis.
00:56Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Caracas,
01:01Venezuela.
01:02We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:18United States President-Elect Donald Trump has nominated Florida Senator Marco Rubio
01:23to lead the State Department during his next term at the White House.
01:27With the appointment, Trump puts an end to days of speculation where many had rumored
01:32his former political rival as his potential choice for the role.
01:36This election reinforces his incoming administration's commitment to a more aggressive foreign policy.
01:42If confirmed, Rubio would be the first Latino to serve as Washington's top diplomat.
01:48The senator, who also acts as vice-chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee and sits
01:53on the Foreign Relations Committee, has called the nomination a tremendous honor and responsibility.
01:59It's a tremendous honor for the president to place his confidence in me in a position
02:12of such importance.
02:13It's also a tremendous responsibility and the job of the Secretary of State is to execute
02:18on foreign policy set by the elected president of the United States and I hope to have the
02:22opportunity to do it if my current colleagues here in the U.S. Senate confirm it.
02:30The son of Cuban immigrant parents, Florida Senator Marco Rubio was born in Miami in 1971.
02:37Since his election to the U.S. Senate in 2010, he has earned a reputation for his
02:42hawkish views on foreign policy regarding countries such as China, Iran, Venezuela and
02:48Cuba.
02:49Precisely, Rubio has been one of the most active and vocal promoters of anti-Cuba policy
02:54in Congress, seeking to steer the U.S. government's stance on all of Latin America in an even
03:01more aggressive direction.
03:02Rubio also strongly supports Israel's genocide in Gaza, blaming the Palestinian resistance
03:07Hamas for the civilian deaths in the coastal enclave.
03:11Regarding China, he has pressed for a more confrontational U.S. approach, introducing
03:17legislation to block tax credits for the use of Chinese technology in certain products.
03:22Over the course of Trump's 2024 campaign, notorious for its marked anti-immigrant rhetoric,
03:28Rubio served as a behind-the-scenes foreign policy advisor to the Republican candidate.
03:48Outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump agreed to a peaceful transition
03:54of power after meeting at the White House on Wednesday.
03:57According to the White House's spokesperson, Karine Jean-Pierre, the meeting lasted nearly
04:02two hours, where the two leaders discussed important national security and domestic and
04:06international policy issues.
04:09The White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters Biden stressed
04:15that support for Ukraine was in the United States' national security interest, while
04:19Trump told reporters that he and Biden had talked very much about the Middle East.
04:25The traditional courtesy of welcoming the president-elect into the Oval Office is one
04:30that Trump did not extend when Biden won in 2020.
04:34Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January
04:3920, 2025.
04:49An Argentinian court upheld Wednesday a six-year prison sentence and a life ban from holding
04:54public office against former President Cristina Fernández.
04:58Fernández was convicted and sentenced in 2022 by a three-judge panel for an alleged
05:04fraud scheme that embezzled millions of dollars through public works projects during her presidency.
05:10The former head of state appealed the 2022 decision, but now a higher tribunal ratified
05:15the original ruling.
05:16The verdict was handed down by Judge Gustavo Ornos, who has been questioned for his links
05:22with former President Mauricio Macri.
05:25Fernández has 10 days to appeal the decision before the Supreme Court.
05:37The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, on her morning conference recalled the importance
05:42of Mexican migrants and their work for the economy of the United States.
05:48We are even doing a study by U.S. state on how much they benefit the U.S. economy, but
05:55also how much does the treaty benefits it.
05:59The T-MEC benefits Mexico, but it also greatly benefits the U.S.
06:05So what would a tariff mean for the U.S. economy?
06:08We are well advanced in this work.
06:12It is being coordinated by the Secretary of Economy, and he is also working with the Treasury
06:17Department.
06:19So these numbers are fundamental for the review of the Treaty that will be made in 2026, but
06:26also for any issue that the U.S. government is going to raise.
06:38The Mexican leader praised the quality and dedication of the Mexican workers in the United
06:42States and how this country benefits from their outstanding working results.
06:48It is important to demonstrate with facts the benefits for the United States of the
06:53work our brothers and sisters are doing there.
06:57But also the work of the Mexicans, men and women who are there, which is first class.
07:04Our construction workers, and those from other fields, from doctors to construction workers,
07:10which are all equally important.
07:12And also the importance of integration, because you have to remember that Mexican exports
07:18to the United States have increased.
07:21Much of that export is, for example, auto parts, which allow the auto industry in the
07:26United States to benefit from our treaty.
07:29The head of state also praised the administration of former President Andrés Manuel López
07:33Obrador and highlighted his efforts to achieve a national transformation in Mexico.
07:39For us and for the Mexican people, President López Obrador is a man who dedicated his
07:45life to the transformation of our country.
07:49I said it when I took office, he is the main political leader of the 21st century, at least,
07:56and the man who led the transformation of our country.
08:00I think he has not retired from public life.
08:04And our adversaries are already listening to why I say this.
08:09Because he is still fighting, but from another trench.
08:13Because to sit down to write a book about the cultural greatness of Mexico, which is
08:18based, among other sources of wealth, on our native peoples, is just like to continue fighting
08:24from another trench.
08:26Because once this book is published, it will become a very important source for the historical
08:31memory and the recognition of the greatness of Mexico.
08:35So from here we send him our greetings, and let's hope someone passes the message on to him.
08:41And now we have a short break coming up, but before we remember you, you can join us on
08:45TikTok at TELESURINGLISH, where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and more.
08:51We'll be right back, stay with us!
09:05Welcome back!

11:11180 in its latest attack on Gaza.
11:15The Palestinian Health Ministry reported 43,712 people killed since the beginning of the Israeli
11:21genocide, with approximately 103,000 wounded.

11:44Authorities also affirmed that the health crisis is worsening with the lack of medical
11:47supplies.
11:51In Lebanon, authorities registered a new Israeli airstrike in Beirut.
12:02Occupation forces shot down a building and attacked civilian targets in the capital's
12:08Dahiyeh district.
12:09Before attacking, Israeli troops issued evacuation orders for the neighborhoods of Kobeidi and
12:14Harid Reik, south of Beirut, for allegedly being Hezbollah resistance movement locations.
12:20The Lebanese authorities have not reported or commented on any casualties, only images
12:25of the impact of the attack have been broadcast in local media, while Israel stated that in
12:30this second phase of its ground operation, it will destroy Hezbollah's rocket-launching
12:35capability.
12:44In Pakistan, a bus veered off the road on Tuesday and it fell into the Indus river at
12:51Tel Shib Bridge, bringing about 14 deaths and 13 people missing in Punjab province.
12:57In the Gilgit-Palestine region, authorities reported that the driver lost control of the
13:02bus due to reaching high speed.
13:05He was taking a bride, a groom and their guests to celebrate a wedding at Shaqwal City in
13:13Punjab province.
13:14In addition, reports confirmed 14 deaths, including that of the bride, who died at a
13:19nearby hospital from her serious injuries.
13:22Currently, rescue teams are still looking for 13 people missing and however experts
13:27described as unlikely the chance of any survivors grounded in freezing weather conditions.
13:43China highlighted the progress made in building a community of common destiny between Latin
13:48America and the Caribbean over the last 10 years.
13:51This initiative aims at strengthening relations based on closer cooperation, as the vision
13:56of creating a community of common destiny becomes a reality in multiple actions and
14:01projects, generating tangible results for both regions.
14:05These alliances have been strongly supported and have led to improvements in several areas
14:09of development for the nations of Latin America and the Caribbean.
14:13Beijing is Latin America and the Caribbean's second largest trading partner.
14:17Moreover, the Asian giant has worked with 22 countries under the Belt and Road Initiative,

15:32In La Guajira, Colombia, the effects of the winter wave hit the Colombian department and
15:37conditions worsened.
15:38This winter wave especially affects the High Guajira, where the inhabitants remain cut
15:43off from communications.
15:45In the last few days, there has been a rise in the price of foodstuffs, as many vehicles
15:50carrying food and fuel were trapped on the roads due to the poor conditions of the roads
15:55that could take up to six days to arrive.
15:57Moreover, the municipality of Uribe declared a public calamity due to the rains and the
16:03overflowing of the Kutanamana and Chemerain creeks, which affected more than 300 families.
16:18In Pakistan, air pollution has reportedly exceeded more than 80 times the level classified
16:24as acceptable by the World Health Organization.
16:27Precisely, the city of Lahore in the country's Punjab province remained enveloped in a thick
16:32smog resulting from low-quality diesel fumes and smoke from agricultural fires.
16:38In response, the local Environmental Protection Agency announced the imposition of new restrictions
16:43in four areas of the city, banning the use of tricycles equipped with polluting engines.
16:49As part of the measures, several employees of the public and private administration will
16:53work from home, and construction jobs have been halted.
17:05Data revealed that more than 26 million people were forced to move from their homes in 2023
17:11after being affected by the global climate crisis.
17:14This figure was reported in the framework of the COP29, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, where
17:20representatives discussed solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change.
17:24During the meeting, the International Organization for Migration called for concrete actions
17:30to address climate change and its impact on migration.
17:34In this context, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees warned that so far there are
17:39not enough resources or support to assist refugees and face the increasing impacts of
17:45climate phenomena.
17:50On Wednesday, several international airlines cancelled flights to and from Indonesia's
17:59tourist island of Bali as an ongoing volcanic eruption left travellers stranded at airports.
18:05The international airlines suspended flights for safety reasons due to the presence of
18:10volcanic ash caused by Mount Lewatobi.
18:13The General Manager of Bali's airport informed that from November 4 to 12, more than 80 flights
18:19were cancelled in Bali, including flights from Singapore, Hong Kong and Australian cities.
18:25It should be noted that during the first volcanic eruption of Mount Lewatobi, on November 3rd,
18:30at least nine people were killed.
18:40Spanish authorities issued a threat alert in Malaga, Andalusia and the province of Tarragona
18:46ahead of expected torrential rains related to a new cold drop event.
18:51Authorities in Catalonia decreed restrictions to mobility and the suspension of schools

19:10train that connects with Madrid.
19:16The city of Bogotá, Colombia, premiered Wednesday a film about the incredible odyssey of four
19:34indigenous siblings who survived 40 days in the Colombian Amazon after a small plane crash
19:40in May 2023.
19:42Through video archives and interviews, the film, entitled Lost Children, highlights the
19:47collaboration between soldiers and indigenous communities in the search for the children,
19:52transforming a relationship of mistrust into an inspiring bond.
19:56The story focuses on Leslie, the heroine who ensured the survival of her brothers, Soleni,
20:02Tien, Noriel and Cristi Makutui, who had to face adversity with ingenuity and bravery
20:08while their testimonies are recreated through animation.
20:12The film, directed by British Oscar winner Orlando Vaughn and Seidl, will be officially
20:17released on Netflix on November 14th.
20:26The story that unfolded in this search and rescue of two groups that have been historically
20:34divided for decades coming together, I think that's an incredibly inspiring element.
20:42And I think that there are so many problems in the world that have related to huge divisions
20:48between people.
20:49And I'd like to think that this story can inspire people to work together.
20:55The Kimbangist Symphony Orchestra of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is celebrating its
21:0130th anniversary.
21:02It is currently one of the most famous orchestras in Africa.
21:06However, its beginnings were not that successful as the group had so few instruments that the
21:12musicians had to share them among themselves.
21:15The band, which started with a dozen string players, now has 200 members and is a pioneer
21:21of classical music on the continent.
21:23Throughout the years, the orchestra has performed in countries around the world, including Germany
21:28and the United States.
21:29The Kimbangist Symphony Orchestra has also collaborated with other groups, such as the
21:34Tübingen Chamber Orchestra of Germany, and plays regularly with international soloists.
21:45So, at 29, almost 30 years old, I'm proud to be part of this orchestra.
21:50It's a great achievement in my life.
21:52Because being part of a Kimbangist Symphony Orchestra isn't easy.
21:56And a symphony orchestra isn't for everyone.
21:58There are tests, you have to pass tests, you have to go to the great classical music
22:03schools, to join the symphony orchestra.
22:06But this is an opportunity I've been given, a gift from heaven.
22:11Thank God, with the help of the community who supported us, and a number of friends
22:16who also supported us in building this school, the school is here today, and we're proud
22:21of it.
22:22We said to ourselves, at least through this school, we can now think about the future
22:28for the children who are going to learn.
22:32We have come to the end of this news brief, but you can find this and many other stories
