00:12of Venezuelan migrants by the United States and called sending them to El Salvador a kidnapping
00:17maneuver.
00:20The Patria International Colloquium kicked off in Havana, Cuba, with nearly 400 guests
00:25from Cuba and from 47 countries, who will pay a special homage to the 20th anniversary
00:29of the multi-platform TELESUR.
00:34And in Yemen, a series of demonstrations called Stand with Gaza, in support of the Palestinian
00:38enclave, began on Monday.
00:46Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from TELESUR Studios in Caracas,
00:50Venezuela.
00:51We begin with the news, stay with us.
01:08The President of Venezuela's National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, rejected Monday the criminalization
01:13of Venezuelan migrants by the United States and called sending them to El Salvador a kidnapping
01:18maneuver.
01:19Rodríguez described the decision as inhumane and denounced that Venezuelan migrants are
01:23being humiliated in the United States by taking them away from their workplaces, educational
01:28centers and public places as alleged criminals.
01:32Rodríguez also revealed that the Trump administration offered $6,000 to El Salvador for each Venezuelan
01:38migrant accepted in that country.
01:47Their accounts are closed.
01:49They are beaten out of their churches, workplaces, schools, public places, and taken who knows
01:56where.
01:57They leave them kidnapped and ruined.
02:04And based on the testimonies we have from the Venezuelans that have been repatriated
02:08through the Back to the Homeland program, they return with nothing, completely ruined.
02:18They are deprived of everything that they were humanely able to make, for better or
02:23worse, during their stay in the United States of America.
02:30Rodríguez also accused the country's far-right and former deputy Carlos Pavarotti of being
02:35behind the massive deportations and criminalization of the Venezuelan migrants.
02:42That is to say that thanks to you, María Corina Machado, Julio Borges, Leopoldo López
02:49and Juan Guaido, at this moment Venezuelan women and men are being kidnapped.
02:55They are not detaining them.
02:57They are kidnapping them and expelling them from the United States of America without
03:01complying with any of legal requirements, with any of the provisions set forth by the
03:06Conventions on the Rights of Migrants, by the United Nations Charter, and by the Universal
03:13Declaration of Human Rights.
03:17And in Venezuela, Interior and Justice Minister Diosdado Cabello called for a large rally
03:21and a signature drive in defense of Venezuelans abroad.
03:24The actions come after the recent kidnappings of Venezuelans perpetrated by the Trump administration.
03:29Venezuelan migrants were transported to concentration camps in El Salvador on the false accusations
03:34of delinquency.
03:35Cabello stated that the leaders of the far-right opposition, led by María Corina Machado
03:41and Juan Guaido, promoted the campaigns of xenophobia and criminalization of Venezuelans
03:45abroad.
03:46In this context, the Interior Minister emphasized that on Wednesday, March 19th, signatures
03:51will be collected in all Bolivar squares in rejection to the U.S. government's fascism.
04:04Many of them were encouraged by a great campaign, a great campaign urging Venezuelans to leave
04:10the country for the American dream.
04:13It has been duly proven with facts and testimonies that the opposition created a band of coyotes
04:19who charged Venezuelans for their journey to the United States.
04:23If they only took them to Darien there was a price, if they took them beyond there was
04:27another price and so on until they reached the United States.
04:31It was a mafia, a mafia protected, by the way, not by a group of criminals, but by the
04:37very government of the United States.
04:47And Cabello accused the Donald Trump administration of resorting to an old law that has only been
04:53used three times in the history of the North American nation aimed at considering Venezuelans
04:58enemies of the United States.
05:04After the United States government dusted off a law from 1798, a 1798 law that has only
05:12been used three times, during the War of 1812 and during the First and Second World
05:22Wars, they are dusting it off now, with the main objective to declare Venezuelans enemies
05:28of the United States.
05:34Its name is the Alien Enemies Act, that's the law that the United States government
05:39is dusting off now.
05:47And in this context, Venezuela's autonomous Institute National Council for the Rights
05:51of Children and Adolescents requested that UNICEF make a statement on the vulnerability
05:56of migrant children and teenagers in the U.S.
05:59This Monday morning, the Institute's President Anaïs Arizmendi requested that the organization
06:05make a statement on what she considered to be the enforcement of a law of war against
06:09the civilian population.
06:11Arizmendi referred to the Alien Enemies Act, on which the U.S. government based itself
06:16to deport 238 Venezuelans to El Salvador this weekend.
06:20The President of IDENA delivered a communiqué to the UN organization requesting the Deputy
06:25Representative of UNICEF in Venezuela, José Ramón Espinosa, to make a statement regarding
06:29the older issue by the Donald Trump's government to detain all Venezuelans who are at least
06:3414 years old without the guarantee of due process.
06:38The communiqué highlights denunciations made by human rights organizations in the U.S.,
06:43according to which permanent abuses are committed in the detention centers of migrant children.
06:53We now have our first short break coming up, remember you can join us on TikTok at TELUS

07:01We're going to be right back, stay with us.
07:04Welcome back, we continue with From the South.
07:34The Patria International Colloquium kicked off in Havana, Cuba, an event that brings
07:38together in the Cuban capital nearly 400 guests from Cuba and 47 countries, who pay a special
07:44homage to the 20th anniversary of the Multi-Platform Telesur.
07:48With the laying of a wreath to the Julio Antonio Meya monument by the hands of the President
07:53of the Multi-Platform Telesur, Patricia Villegas, the fourth edition started at the University
07:59of Havana, the main venue of this event.
08:03Under the premise, we are people, we've been doing worse.
08:06The event will be held from March 17th to March 19th, aiming to explore how power is
08:10transformed in an interconnected world.
08:13On the Wednesday, attendees will participate in conferences, panels and workshops to discuss
08:17the unprecedented possibilities of social interaction in a context marked by the rise
08:22of misinformation, hate speech and manipulation.
08:30During her opening speech at the Colloquium, Telesur's President Patricia Villegas highlighted
08:34the need to build a counter-hegemonic agenda with a global impact.
08:47We have to make a profound reflection and stop thinking of ourselves as competitors,
08:52but as collaborators and decisively and consciously work on common agendas.
08:58To work in dialogical exercises about what is important for the landless workers movement
09:03in Brazil, that I see them here, that their struggle agenda be also important for the
09:09community newspaper of Jujuy in Argentina, for a Chinese newspaper in Beijing, and of
09:16course for a multi-platform such as Telesur.
09:20If we do not understand that we have to do it together we don't even have the opportunity
09:25to wage the battle.
09:26We wouldn't even have the opportunity to get into the fabric of that great hegemonic
09:31power, which I do not want to talk about because I know that in other spaces of this extraordinary
09:37event there will be talks and discussions about how this global ecosystem works today.
09:43But we are building and fighting from the south against that undeniable reality, and
09:48we can only fight if we understand that we have to do it together.
09:54And Telesur is also celebrating its 20th anniversary on the streets with the Cuban people, and
10:07for that we are going live to Havana with our correspondent Belén de los Santos.
10:11Hello Belén, what can you tell us at night at these celebrations in Los Avioncitos neighborhood
10:16in the capital of Cuba?
10:18Hello Luis, exactly, so just as you were saying, this week is not only just for the Patek Colloquium
10:28but it's especially a celebration for the 20 years of Telesur, and what is happening
10:33right behind me is actually that celebration, that birthday party, 20 years for Telesur,
10:40and that is the important event.
10:43So it's night time in Havana, we are actually in the neighborhood Los Avioncitos, in the
10:48neighborhood La Liza, in the capital of Cuba, and the party is just about to end.
10:55The people were dancing, the people were celebrating, just moments ago the Telesur president Patricia
11:02Villegas addressed the community.
11:04The idea of the celebration was truly for the community, for the people of the neighborhood,
11:11for the people of Cuba to be able to have a moment with Telesur, marking really the
11:16idea that Telesur is a network and a media that was thought out for the people, with
11:23the people, and that continues to maintain 20 years later that idea of community, of
11:29closeness really.
11:31So we had a very close exchange between Patricia Villegas and the rest of the neighbors, but
11:36not only her, all the workers, men and women, the journalists, also the tech staff were
11:43here, part of the celebration, they were up on that stage sharing their experiences, talking
11:50to the people, they even received some questions from the community about what it was like
11:55to carry out the news every day, and what their experience was like, so that was a really
12:02nice and communal moment, so that is what is happening here.
12:06Let's recall that this is all in the framework of the International Patria Colloquium, this
12:12is not just a celebration, it's a moment in which all the different news outlets come
12:18together to Cuba, this is the fourth edition, and they are here to discuss what are the
12:25present challenges for digital communication, and Telesur has a really important experience
12:31to share, and that is what this 20th anniversary is all about, so as you can see, the music
12:37is very loud behind me, the people were dancing and chanting, and it was truly a celebration,
12:43birthday cake included, and we wanted to share with you a little bit of this, let's recall
12:50that the colloquium continues through Tuesday and Wednesday as well, with workshops, with
12:57conferences, with the expositions of new technical advancements, artificial intelligence is also
13:03very big in this colloquium, as really a way to think how these new technologies will impact
13:10the future of digital communication, and of course a leftist perspective on that communication,
13:16so that is what we have for now in Havana, we will continue very early tomorrow as the
13:23colloquium continues, so Luis, I hope to keep on bringing you all the updates.
13:28Thank you Belen, and of course we are going to stay in touch on Tuesday and Wednesday
13:32to continue knowing everything that is happening in this important celebration and the colloquium
13:36that is being held in the capital, thank you for being in touch, Tuesday and Wednesday.
13:41For now, let's continue with our news, in Panama, the power grid was re-established
13:45on Sunday after the outage suffered on Saturday night due to the transformer blowing up.
13:52Only on a press briefing, the National Authority for Public Utilities explained that after
13:57an explanatory visit to the Pan Am thermoelectric plant in the Chorrera district, they confirmed
14:02that the blast left no human losses and no injuries.
14:05The visit served to corroborate the cause of the power outage.
14:09Administrator of the National Authority, Salomar Rodriguez, informed that an investigation
14:13will be open Monday to know thoroughly the event's causes.
14:22And now we have our second short break coming up, before we invite you to visit our Facebook

14:52Welcome back.
15:17In Yemen, a series of demonstrations called Stand with Gaza in support of the Palestinian
15:21Enclave began on Monday.
15:23Tens of thousands mobilized in the capital city of Sana'a to support the Palestinian
15:28people and condemn the new U.S. aggressions against Yemen within the framework of the
15:32Great Battle of Bad.
15:34Nearly 14 governorates prepared to attend the popular demonstrations, which are taking
15:38place in hundreds of squares in the country.
15:40The Yemeni leaders underlined that these mobilizations confirmed the steadfastness of the people
15:45in their faith in support of the Palestinian people and against the U.S. aggression.
15:58Venezuela condemned the bombing of Yemen and the escalation of violence in West Asia.
16:03In an official communique, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela strongly condemns the
16:07military intervention of the United States and the United Kingdom in the territory of
16:11Yemen, an action that violates the sovereignty of that nation and aggravates the already
16:16critical humanitarian situation.
16:18These attacks only add more destruction and suffering to the Yemeni people without providing
16:23any real solution to the problems facing the region.
16:26The current situation of instability in West Asia has as clear origin the occupation and
16:31genocide against the Palestinian people.
16:33Amongst 80 years of aggression, exclusion and violence against Palestine have led to
16:40a long-term conflict which consequences affect the whole region.
16:44Peace will only be possible when the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to self-determination
16:49is restored.
16:50Venezuela demands the immediate cessation of attacks against Yemen and calls on the
16:54international community to stop this new military escalation.
16:58The way to achieve peace in the region is to immediately return to international regularity,
17:04compliance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council on Palestine, and
17:08the immediate cessation of any hostility towards the peoples of the region.
17:18The Palestinian Health Ministry experts warn of an unprecedented mental health crisis in
17:23the enclave due to the occupation's brutal violations.
17:26Recently, both Palestinian and Israeli human rights organizations condemned the kidnapping
17:30of two children by genocidal forces after the murder of their grandmother.
17:34Samad Yarb, former head of the ministry's mental health department, says that such incidents
17:39are repeated daily and have wreaked havoc on the mental health of Gazans, especially
17:44children.
17:45The expert says that these scars extend across generations.
17:57And Palestine denounces that 80% of Gaza's population is facing an acute food crisis
18:02due to the Israeli blockade of humanitarian aid.
18:05Sixteen days after the closure of the border crossings, the situation has worsened and
18:09threatens to provoke an unprecedented famine.
18:12Health authorities claim that most bakeries have closed due to the lack of supplies and
18:17drinking water, affecting almost the entire Gazan population.
18:21They warn that Israel's interruption of energy and fuel supplies will worsen the functioning
18:26of essential services and facilities in the Palestinian territories.
18:32And the head of the Chinese People's Army Eastern Theater Command, General Lin Xiangyan,
18:42assured that they were ready to crush any attempt to endanger national unity, sovereignty,
18:47security, and the safeguarding of the country's interests.
18:50He made these remarks on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the application of the
18:55anti-desertion law.
18:56He recalled that the command has focused on achieving a centenary goal set by the Communist
19:01Party of China, and in this sense has vigorously deepened the reform of the army's national
19:06defense.
19:07The senior official was responding to remarks made by the leader of the Chinese island of
19:11Taiwan, who reminded him that if he persisted in his separatist ideas, he would be met with
19:17the full force of the command and the support of the Chinese people.
19:31In the early hours of Monday morning, the Russian Defense Ministry intercepted and shot
19:39down 22 Ukrainian attack drones.
19:41Igor Babushkin, governor of the region, said that 13 drones were shot down over the Astrakhan
19:46province, where a fire broke out at a facility in the energy sector.
19:51One man was injured in the incident and was immediately assisted by medical units.
19:57Recent Ukrainian attacks against Russia have focused on refineries, fuel depots and other
20:02oil industry facilities.
20:11Russian authorities announced that Ukraine lost more than 68,000 soldiers in military
20:16operations in Kursk.
20:18The Ministry of Defense informed that in the last 24 hours, the Russian army eliminated
20:22more than 280 Ukrainian servicemen and destroyed military tanks, infantry fighting vehicles
20:27and armored personnel carriers.
20:29He also said that Ukraine lost 396 tanks, 319 infantry fighting vehicles, 2,200 armored
20:36fighting vehicles, 560 artillery vehicles and 52 launchers of multiple rocket launcher
20:41systems.
20:42The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the liberation of the city of Sutsa, Kursk
20:46region, the largest locality occupied by Ukraine, in August 2024 during an offensive.
21:00And on Sunday, the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, appointed Andrey Natov as the new
21:05chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff.
21:08He replaces Lieutenant General Anatoly Barylevich, who has now been appointed chief inspector
21:13of the Ministry of Defense.
21:15For his part, Defense Minister Rustem Umarov explained that this restructuring aims to
21:20improve the combat effectiveness of the armed forces.
21:23The new chief has served as commander of the joint forces and was also the commander of
21:27the Eastern Front.
21:36Like this we have come to the end of this news brief.
