00:00In Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi of the Red Front and Álvaro Delgado of the National Party
00:13will go to the round-off for the presidential election on November 24th.
00:21Lebanese Islamic Resistance Movement fighters bombed dozens of Israeli settlements in the
00:26northern occupied territories.
00:31A national strike continues in Peru after the executives inability to deal with the
00:36wave of extortion and violence sweeping the country.
00:46Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:51We begin with the news.
01:04In Uruguay, with 99.92% of the votes counted, it is established that Yamandú Orsi of the
01:11Red Front and Álvaro Delgado of the National Party will go to the round-off for the presidential
01:16election on November 24th.
01:19The Broad Front coalition registered so far 43.9% of the votes and the National Party
01:25dropped to 26.28%, as did the Colorado Party which dropped to 16% of its favorable ballots.
01:34With these numbers, the Broad Front and the National Party will reorganize their strategies
01:39as from this Monday.
01:40Regarding the population consultation, 39.1% of the voters voted in favor of social security
01:47and 39.4% voted in favor of establishing night raids, so that neither of the consultations
01:55reached the number necessary for its approval.
02:02Next November 5th, the United States will celebrate its presidential elections.
02:06Let's review some facts of what will possibly be the most curious election in the history
02:12of the country.
02:16This year we witnessed the shortest and longest election race of all time at the same time.
02:21Kamala Harris, candidate for the Democratic Party, had only 107 days of campaigning because
02:28the current president and former Democratic Party candidate, Joe Biden, decided to withdraw
02:33from the race with just under four months to go before the election.
02:38From another point of view, this was also the longest campaign since Donald Trump, the
02:42Republican Party's candidate, began his campaign for this year's elections on the same day
02:47he lost the previous election.
02:54All this left a situation in which Kamala Harris became the first black woman in history
02:59to be a presidential candidate, without even running in the primaries.
03:04And Trump, the oldest candidate of all time, won the Republican primaries without participating
03:09in a single debate.
03:11Unprecedented in modern times.
03:20In addition, during the presidential election campaign, Trump suffered two assassination
03:25attempts.
03:26This was unprecedented in history.
03:29Although only the first was actually an assassination attempt, and the second was only a preparation
03:34in the legal sense.
03:36In Trump's case, it is also striking that this is his third run for the presidency,
03:41something unheard of since the death of President Roosevelt in 1945.
03:47On top of all this, Trump is the first presidential candidate in history to have been the organizer
03:52of an attempted coup d'état and instigator of an armed rebellion in the country, for
03:57which he has criminal proceedings open against him.
04:03Finally, an unprecedented number of high-ranking politicians and former politicians campaigned
04:10against candidates of their own party, in addition to a large majority having spoken
04:15out against Trump's election or openly supported Harris.
04:19This year will definitely be one of the most controversial, curious and close elections
04:24in the history of the United States.
04:31Let's go to Japan, where the ruling party failed to win a majority of parliamentary
04:35votes in Sunday's early elections.
04:37For the first time since 2009, the Liberal Democratic Party, hit by corruption scandals,
04:43failed to win in the general election, dealing a blow to the new prime minister, Shigeru
04:48Ishiba.
04:49The head of government said that voters have expressed their strong desire for the Liberal
04:53Democratic Party to reflect and act in accordance with the will of the people.
04:59The results confirm that citizens are disappointed by the high cost of living in Japan and the
05:05political scandals that helped oust the previous prime minister, Fumio Kishida.
05:16Tunisian authorities reported that at least 15 bodies were found off the coast of the
05:21city of Mahdia, located in the east of the country.
05:24All signs indicate a new sinking of a boat with migrants.
05:28The bodies were found between Saturday and Sunday.
05:31In recent years, Tunisia has become the main departure point for migrant boats trying to
05:36cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach Europe.
05:39In this regard, the International Organization for Migration detailed that so far this year,
05:44more than a thousand people have died or have been reported missing while crossing the Mediterranean
05:49Sea.
05:55In Thailand, a court ordered the disposal of a case against former state security personnel
06:00and officials over the death of 85 Muslim protesters in 2004.
06:05While there was enough evidence for an indictment on the cause, the case was unable to proceed
06:10as no suspects were arrested and brought to the court.
06:14Therefore, the court issued a disposal order as the 20-year statute of limitations on Friday.
06:20The court's statement remarked that the order is not a dismissal of the charges against
06:25the suspects as they had never entered the legal proceedings, but fled until the statute
06:30of limitations expired.
06:32The death denounced in the case occurred in 2004, shortly after a Muslim Separatist insurgency
06:38erupted in Thailand's southernmost provinces of Narathiwat, Patani and Jala, the only ones
06:45with Muslim majorities in the Buddhist-dominated nation.

07:08Welcome back to From the South.
07:34Lebanese Islamic resistance movement fighters bombed thousands of Israeli settlements in
07:38the northern occupied territories.
07:40Hezbollah confirmed that a volley of missiles was directed at military targets between the
07:45settlements of Al-Manara and Margalio.
07:48Before the attack, the Lebanese resistance issued for the first time an evacuation order
07:53to Israeli civilians occupying these Palestinian territories.
07:57In southern Lebanon, the inability of Israeli troops becomes evident as these operations
08:02generate new frictions between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Joaf
08:07Galant, who assured in an open letter that a world without a compass is being carried
08:12out.
08:18In Egypt, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi proposed on Sunday a two-day ceasefire in the Gaza
08:24Strip in exchange for the release of four Israeli prisoners and some Palestinian prisoners.
08:29In this sense, if the Israeli and Palestinian sides were to accept the agreement in addition
08:34to the exchange of prisoners, this would allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.
08:39Moreover, according to the Egyptian leader, talks would be held within 10 days to implement
08:45a temporary ceasefire with a view to laying the groundwork for a definitive truce.
08:49El-Sisi also reported and reiterated Egypt's firm opposition to the forced displacement
08:55of Palestinians out of Gaza.
09:02In Palestine, thousands of students and teachers died after being asphyxiated by an Israeli
09:07tear gas attack in the occupied southern West Bank.
09:11According to reports, the Zionist attack targeted a school in the town of Hebron, while school
09:16activities were in progress.
09:17The staff of the institution detailed that they had to evacuate the entire school community
09:22through alternate routes to ensure their safety.
09:26In this context, the secretary of the Fattah movement asserted that Israeli forces fired
09:30toxic gas canisters into the school, causing dozens of students and teachers to suffocate.
09:41The governments of Algeria and Egypt called for an Israeli ceasefire in the Gaza Strip
09:45and stressed the need to restore stability in the region.
09:49Syrian President Abdel-Majid Tabun supports Egypt's initiative for a ceasefire in Gaza
09:54and demands that Israel allow the entry of humanitarian aid and stop the extermination
09:59against the Palestinian people.
10:01While the president of Egypt, Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, affirmed that he maintains his opposition
10:07as mediator and said that the solution is to establish a Palestinian state.
10:12After their meeting in Cairo, the leaders discussed issues of bilateral interest and
10:17mainly their concerns for securing stability and peace in the region.
10:22In Spain, over 40 senior state representatives attended on Monday the 9th Union for the Mediterranean
10:34UFM forum held in Barcelona.
10:37The intergovernmental organization is made up of European Union member states and 16 countries
10:42from the south and east of the Mediterranean, including Israel and Palestine.
10:48Notwithstanding, an Israeli authority participated at the event, unlike Palestine, which has
10:53been represented by its foreign minister, Varsen Aghabekian Shahin.
10:59The UFM group met for the second time to mainly address the war escalation in the Middle East
11:04in an attempt to settle all disputes and reach regional peace.
11:09The Minister of Foreign Affairs and expatriates of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, urged all present
11:15to stop the impunity of Israel.
11:17In addition, Joseph Borrell supported the idea in his following statement.
11:24This is a moment in which the neighboring countries of the Mediterranean have all made
11:29their voices heard, calling for a political solution to this conflict, which cannot be
11:34other solution, and in this as well we all agree, than a process leading to the creation
11:38of a state for Palestine, and here the key word is to implementation, not to proclaim
11:43the need, but to do what is necessary for this to happen, for 30 years.
11:47We have been proclaiming that this is the solution without acting decisively.
11:51To achieve it.

12:30Welcome back to From the South.
12:32Today United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has urgently called for strict
12:36controls to prevent arms shipments to Haiti.
12:39The most recent report of the United Nations mission in the South American nation revealed
12:44that every day, on average, 13 people are murdered.
12:48In the most violent year that this country is going through, in terms of citizen security,
12:53from January 2024 to October, more than 3,450 people have been murdered due to criminality.
13:01The United Nations High Office assures that the arms that contribute to these rates of
13:06violence come mainly from the United States, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.
13:15National strike continues in Peru after the executive's inability to deal with the wave
13:19of extortion and violence sweeping the country.
13:22According to the defense front of Ayacucho organization, the pressure measure is being
13:27carried out to demand national authorities take concrete measures and strengthen actions
13:32against the crime.
13:34The organization assured that the discontent of most Peruvians is due to the abandonment
13:39by the state in the face of the constant robberies, extortions and murders all over the country.
13:44It is worth pointing out that during the last few weeks, the transportation union has carried
13:49out at least three national strikes to demand the Peruvian government to take actions against
13:54crimes.
13:57In Bolivia, Senate President Andronico Rodríguez petitioned the Inter-American Commission on
14:09Human Rights to grant protection measures for former President Evo Morales.
14:14Rodríguez proposed the creation of an interdisciplinary group of independent experts that can objectively
14:20investigate the incidents that occurred this Sunday in Cochabamba.
14:25The president of the legislative body also considers prudent the presence of a United
14:29Nations observation mission.
14:31The call comes after the former president was the victim of an attack while traveling
14:35in a vehicle.
14:37The president of the plurinational state Luis Arce condemned the attack and requested an
14:42exhaustive investigation.
14:50The Government of Venezuela advances in its food policies with the implementation of fairs
14:55with affordable prices for the population in several municipalities of the country.
15:00Thousands of Venezuelan families benefited from the Campos Oberana open-air fairs, where
15:05vegetables, proteins, toys and other products were sold at affordable prices.
15:11Recreational activities and medical attention services were also provided to the communities
15:16during the day, benefiting young people and senior citizens alike.
15:20The Campos Oberana fair seeks to strengthen the social protection of Venezuelan families.
15:39In the Philippines, authorities reported 116 people dead following the passage of Tropical
15:44Storm Trami.
15:45According to data from the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management,
15:50there were also 109 injured, while 39 are still missing.
15:55Authorities added that over one million people are sheltered in assistance centers after
16:00landslides and strong winds caused damage to thousands of houses.
16:04The Philippines Meteorological Agency warns about the arrival of Storm Kong Ray with sustained
16:10winds of up to 95 km per hour, with forecasts of reaching typhoon category in next 24 hours.
16:21In the United Kingdom, local press announced Monday that since October 16th, Woburn Safari
16:27Park has taken care of the first eastern mountain bongo calf in Bedfordshire, which is a main
16:35success to preserve the critical endangered species.
16:40The International Union for the Conservation of Nature Red List classified the forest antelope
16:45as critically endangered species as there are fewer than 100 eastern mountain bongo worldwide
16:52due to a poaching and lost habitat.
16:54Therefore, Woburn Safari Park mounted a breeding program from which the male calf has been
17:01the first to be born in over 10 years, amounting to five the bongo herd at the park.
17:07By the time the calf grows up, he will be transferred to start a breeding group of his
17:12own.
17:13So far, Bedsaid, both bongo mom and calf are healthy.
17:29Caracas hosted the fifth chapter of the Viva Venezuela Mi Patria Querida festival with
17:34the band Serenata Guayanesa as the main musical attraction.
17:37Let's see more details in the following report.
17:40The Aquiles Nazoa Cultural Center was the stage for the Viva Venezuela festival, which
17:47featured the Serenata Guayanesa quartet and paid tribute to the states of Amazonas, Bolívar
17:52and Delta Amacuro.
17:56I came to see Serenata Guayanesa, which is a very old and important group, with their
18:00usual songs, like the one that says, La noche se muestra hermosa y rebosa de alegría.
18:06We sang that one yesterday at a birthday party here.
18:09For me, that song is wonderful, just like all the songs they sing.
18:15Well, Serenata Guayanesa has been working for more than 50 years to promote and disseminate
18:22Venezuelan music, and of course, it is very important to have this type of event for greater
18:28diffusion and for people to enjoy.
18:34The two days were full of color and joy.
18:36In addition to the music, the entrepreneurs were able to offer their products, as is the
18:41case of the Network of Gastronomic Cultures of Guarenas, Guatire Araida.
18:45We make all kinds of Creole desserts, trying to rescue everything that has been lost, desserts
18:53that many people no longer know.
18:58We make desserts such as stuffed turkey and coconut preserves.
19:02I have my profession, and then in my work I distributed my desserts.
19:09I have always sold my desserts since I learned to make them.
19:13Everywhere I have worked I have sold them, and now friends and people ask me, and I sell
19:18them here, in the cultural center.
19:23The festival, which has already registered 214 artists from Venezuela, will continue
19:28its artistic program with chapters dedicated to the Plains and the Andes.
19:35We are very proud of this festival that is touring the country, doing a beautiful job
19:39to make visible, recognize and dignify the culture and our artists.
19:47The invitation is for us to go to the activities that the Ministry of Popular Power for Culture
19:51organizes for everyone, for the enjoyment of the family.
19:57The festival is part of the great mission Viva Venezuela Mi Patria Querida, and it is
20:03a space that aims to promote music, song, rhythm and popular dance, as well as to rescue,
20:09preserve and disseminate traditional values.
