00:51Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:56To begin with the news, stay with us.
01:12In the United States, President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders on his
01:16first day in office following his inauguration.
01:19The first nine executive orders were signed in front of a crowd of 20,000 people during
01:24the presidential inauguration parade in Washington.
01:27The first order resents 78 executive actions and presidential memoranda issued by the Biden
01:34administration over the past four years.
01:36The president declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border while auditing a
01:41review of the Refugee Admissions Program to better align it with U.S. principles and interests.
01:48The current president, meanwhile, called the previous administration the worst in history
01:52for allowing criminals and criminal groups into the country.
01:57U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order pulling the U.S. out of the World Health
02:05Organization.
02:06Trump also audited a comprehensive review of U.S. foreign and spending.
02:11Both moves fit into Trump's more isolationist America First approach to international affairs.
02:18He feared the move could roll back decades-long gains made in fighting infectious diseases
02:24like AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis.
02:27Experts also warned it could weaken the world's defenses against dangerous new outbreaks capable
02:32of triggering pandemics.
02:34On trade, the president said he expects to impose 25 percent tariffs on Canada and Mexico
02:40starting February 1.
02:48In Southern California, a couple of fires broke out again as a result of winds, while
03:01firefighters are being alert to extreme fire weather conditions which triggered blazes
03:06in Los Angeles.
03:07The National Weather Service announced gusts could reach from 70 meters per hour to 100
03:13meters per hour.
03:14Hence, the entity issued a warning of a particularly dangerous situation for portions of Los Angeles,
03:20Ventura and San Diego counties from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning.
03:24So far, authorities have reported two fires in San Diego County.
03:29Subsequently, evacuation orders were issued for the Leelake fire as 50 acres had been
03:35destroyed due to flames.
03:37However, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection informed firefighters
03:42managed to put out the Pala fire.
03:51A landslide triggered by heavy rains on Indonesia's main island of Java has left at least 16 people
03:57dead and three missing.
03:59Heavy rains in a mountainous area near the city of Pekanlongan, central Java province,
04:05caused landslides on Monday, collapsing at least one bridge and burning houses and cars
04:11in thick mud.
04:12According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, the landslide buried two houses and
04:17swept away several passing vehicles, leaving 10 injured who have been referred to hospitals
04:23and the nearest community health center.
04:26The weather forecast for the next three days showed potential moderate rains that could
04:30cause floods, flash floods and landslides.
04:37A 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit the Chinese island of Taiwan on Tuesday, injuring 27 people,
04:43causing landslides and collapsing roofs of houses.
04:47Taiwan's Central Meteorological Administration reported that tremors were felt for nearly
04:52a minute when the shallow quake struck shortly after midnight and the epicenter was recorded
04:5712 kilometers north of Yuejing, a mango-producing district of southern Taiwan.
05:03Rescuers rescued three people, including a child, who were trapped in a collapsed house
05:08in the nearby Nanshi district.
05:11Local reports also claimed that one person was injured by falling debris, while two people
05:16were rescued from elevators.
05:18More than 50 aftershocks have been recorded, but the agency reported no major damage.

05:49The government of Venezuela declared on Tuesday the former presidents of Colombia Álvaro Uribe
05:55and Iván Duque as public enemies of the country, terrorist and persona non grata.
05:59The action, taken during an ordinary session of the Venezuelan National Assembly, comes
06:04in response to recent statements made by Uribe, who is linked to paramilitary groups and drug
06:09traffickers.
06:10The former Colombian head of state requested a foreign military intervention in Venezuelan
06:14territory with the purpose of encouraging conflict in the country.
06:18In this context, Iván Duque was also regarded as a public enemy of the nation for his terrorist
06:24acts against the Venezuelan people.
06:26Both former presidents are considered paramilitary terrorists responsible for numerous assassinations.
06:33Considering the honorable deputies who agree with the project presented and the modification
06:41carried out during the debate, raise your hand.
06:45It has been approved unanimously the agreement that declares as public enemy of the Bolivarian
06:53Republic of Venezuela the paramilitary, terrorist, drug traffickers, fascists, criminals, representatives
06:59of the international extreme right wing Álvaro Uribe Pérez and Iván Duque.
07:03In this regard, President of Venezuela's National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, referred
07:07to the actions of the extreme right wing.
07:10I encourage all of the actions of the extreme right wing of Venezuela that are his daughters
07:19and sons and their mercenaries, Juan Guaidó, Machado, Leopoldo López, they are all mercenaries
07:33of Álvaro Uribe Pérez.
07:35The Argentine human rights organization Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo announced on Tuesday that
07:41they have found the 139th granddaughter kidnapped during the 1976 military dictatorship.
07:48Leaders of the organization celebrated this achievement, highlighting that it has led
07:53to the reunion of several Argentine families.
07:56Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo has been working for years to restore the identity of at least
08:02500 children who were stolen from their families by the military dictatorship in the 70s and
08:0780s.
08:08According to data, the dictatorship period in Argentina forcibly disappeared over 30,000
08:14people and kidnapped many of their children.
08:17Stripping them of their true identity.
08:24In Colombia, the government of the Northern Department of Santander declared a social
08:28and economic emergency due to the insecurity crisis generated by the armed conflict between
08:33insurgent groups.
08:35On a press release, authorities of the Northern Department of Santander detailed that the
08:39measure will allow activating budgets to purchase food, medicines, mattresses and clothes to
08:46assist victims and displaced people by the conflict.
08:49According to official reports, the majority of those displaced are located in temporary
08:54shelters in cities such as Tibú, Ocaña and Cúcuta, while thousands of others continue
08:59to move to the state of Zulia in Venezuela, where they are being cared for by the Bolivarian
09:05government.
09:10Colombian President Gustavo Petro, through his ex-account, referred to the state of economic
09:14emergency declared by his government in view of the worsening situation of violence in
09:19the country and called on the judicial power to support his decision.
09:24Through a post on his ex-account, the Colombian head of state expressed, he talks about others
09:29but refers to himself, they have lost their intelligence, the revolution can only be made
09:35with the people and without violence.
09:38Peace is the revolutionary flag because it is the flag of life.
09:42A state of internal commotion and a state of economic emergency are declared.
09:47I expect to have the support of the judicial power.
09:50The military deployment will always be developed with the economic transformation of the regions
09:55under violence.
10:02More than 100 people have been killed in Colombia as a result of the armed conflict between
10:07the National Liberation Army, ELN, and the 33rd Front, a dissident faction of the now
10:13disbanded FARC-IP.
10:15So far, about 80 people have been killed in the Catatumbo region, while the conflict between
10:20armed groups has spread to other regions such as Guaviare, where over 20 deaths have been
10:26recorded.
10:27For its part, the Colombian government deployed thousands of military troops in the conflict
10:32zones to stop the violence and safeguard lives.
10:35This measure was intensified after the president declared a national state of internal commotion
10:40and economic emergency.
10:42However, despite the state's initiative, over 20,000 Colombians fled their homes, looking
10:48for refugees, of which some 1,000 have found shelter in Venezuela.
10:56We will have to make a common grave.
10:58Berrián put several bodies in a single hole because the graveyard does not have the capacity
11:03to accommodate 50 or 60 bodies.
11:05God forbid, and may he protect US from that.
11:35Welcome back to From the South.
12:04In Palestine, after the ceasefire, displaced civilians returned to their neighborhoods
12:08to find decimated houses and search for their missing relatives under the rubble.
12:14From the Gaza Strip, our collaborator, Judah Hegazi, brings us more information.
12:18I am in the area of Al-Bureij, this refugee camp located in the center of the Gaza Strip,
12:30which was one of the areas most attacked by the
12:34Israeli army during this genocidal war that lasted more than 15 consecutive months.
12:40As we can see, the destruction caused by the Israeli regime is extensive.
12:45Precisely here, I found the home of the Al-Rashash family, which as we can see has been completely
12:51destroyed.
12:52But what surprised me about this story is that despite being completely gone, since
12:56the home is in ruins, just a pile of destroyed stones, the family has come here again to
13:02live after the ceasefire.
13:04They returned to their home, to their house, although as we can see there is literally
13:08no house.
13:09They have put sheets to simulate a door so that they can live in this place, which is
13:13literally destroyed.
13:14What surprised me about this story is that the family, and especially the mother, came
13:19here because she said that in one of the attacks carried out by the occupying army, her children
13:24were killed.
13:25Right here, in this place, you can see that the house of the Al-Rashash family is completely
13:32destroyed.
13:33The house of the Al-Rashash family is completely destroyed.
13:36The house of the Al-Rashash family is completely destroyed.
13:39The house of the Al-Rashash family is completely destroyed.
13:42The house of the Al-Rashash family is completely destroyed.
13:45The house of the Al-Rashash family is completely destroyed.
13:48The house of the Al-Rashash family is completely destroyed.
13:52Right here, in this place, and up to now, she has not been able to get them out from
13:58under the rubble.
13:59That is, even now, her children are under all this pile of ruins, under all this pile
14:04of rubble.
14:05And so this woman says that she does not want to leave her home, she does not want to live
14:10anywhere else but here, even though it is destroyed.
14:13Because above all, now, her main objective is to get her children out and be able to
14:18bury them.
14:19Now, we will talk with this woman, who is the mother of the family, so that she can
14:23tell us her story.
14:38I want you to tell me how you lived through the war, how many times you evacuated and
14:42why did you come back here.
14:44I have evacuated many times.
14:46Every time there were attacks, we had to evacuate and flee.
14:49We have no house, no shelter, nothing.
14:52They even attacked us once for trying to eat.
14:54I came back here after the ceasefire to look for my children.
14:58Four of them died in an attack on my house.
15:00I came to see them and call for them and tell them to come out.
15:03Come out Atta, come out Mohamed, come out Nasir, come out Nahed.
15:07But none of them answered me.
15:09Here they are, under the rubble.
15:12How are you going to live here if your house is only ruins?
15:16How am I going to live?
15:18With God's help.
15:19I called the whole world to help us.
15:21What am I going to do?
15:22Nobody helps us.
15:23They just talk.
15:34This woman assured us that she has returned to her home because she literally has nowhere
15:39else to go.
15:40This is the only place where she can stay at this moment.
15:43The main reason that has pushed her to return to her home is because her children are still
15:48under the rubble.
15:49There are four young people who were killed by the Israeli regime and whose bodies have
15:54not been able to be retrieved.
15:55So she is hurting since she hasn't been able to bury her children who remain under
16:00the rubble after so long.
16:02So now her only wish is to get her children out so she can bury them with her own hands.
16:11In South Korea, detained President Jung Suk-kyo denied Tuesday that he had ordered troops
16:18to forcibly remove lawmakers from the National Assembly after declaring martial law.
16:23During his hearing, Jung Suk-kyo claimed that his actions were not aimed at blocking the
16:28Assembly but were a warning to the opposition Liberal Democratic Party for undermining the
16:34government's actions.
16:36He also denied that he had sent a note to Finance Minister Choi Sang-chuk on the day
16:41martial law was imposed, asking him to prepare a budget for an emergency legislative body.
16:46The National Assembly impeached the detained president and suspended his powers.
16:51Now the Constitutional Court has until June to decide whether to permanently remove him
16:56or reinstate him.
16:58Russia officially became the main supplier of natural gas to China as part of the nation's
17:03bilateral energy cooperation agreements.
17:05Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed so during a telematic meeting with his Chinese
17:10counterpart Xi Jinping, pointing out that the feat was achieved five years after the
17:16joint launching of the Siberian gas pipeline.
17:19The head of the Soviet Union, Vladimir Putin, said that he was not aware of the Russian
17:24launching of the Siberian gas pipeline.
17:27The head of state of the Russian country added that Moscow also holds the first spot in oil
17:33exports to China.
17:34In this context, Putin also highlighted that Beijing is currently the largest consumer
17:39of Russian energy resources and stressed that relations between the two nations are based
17:44on friendship and mutual trust.
17:47We build our ties on friendship, mutual trust, and support for equality and mutual benefit.
17:52These ties are self-sufficient.
17:54They do not depend on internal political factors or the current global situation.
18:01For his part, the President of China, Xi Jinping, stressed that the relationship with Russia
18:06has its core in eternal friendship and is acquiring a new vitality.
18:10China-Russia relationships, whose core is eternal friendship and kindness, as well as
18:15comprehensive strategic interaction, mutually beneficial cooperation, and victories for
18:20both sides, are acquiring new vitality.
18:27In Turkey, the death toll of the fire that broke out on Tuesday at the Kartaljaka Sky
18:33Hotel in the northern region of the country rose to 17,000.
18:38The figure was confirmed by Turkish Interior Minister Ali Cerlikaya, who also unveiled
18:44that there were 51 people injured as a result of the blaze that engulfed the 12-story Grand
18:50Kartal Hotel, which reportedly had 238 guests staying over for the winter break.
18:56In this regard, Cerlikaya added that 52 of the victims had been identified as the investigation
19:02continues to find out the causes of the fire.
19:05In this context, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared a National Day of Mourning to take
19:10place on Wednesday.
19:15We know in particular that our citizens who have lost relatives are in deep sorrow and
19:20pain.
19:21In order to share the pain of our brothers and sisters, a National Day of Mourning has
19:26been declared.
19:27On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, our flags will be flown at half-mast and the flag will
