24 August - National weather forecast present by Greg Dewhurst.
Transcript
00:00Hello there. Saturday has been quite chilly across much of the UK. Outbreaks of heavy
00:04rain particularly across the east and south-east of the UK. But that's clearing to blustery
00:09showers and it remains unsettled through the rest of the weekend. Further weather systems
00:13pushing through across northern parts of the UK on Sunday but improving as we go into Monday
00:19as a ridge of high pressure builds in from the south before further wet and windy weather
00:24moves in for later on in the day and into Tuesday across the north-west. Blustery end
00:29to Saturday. Showers across western areas, some of these heavy at times. But overnight
00:33we will see some clear spells developing particularly across central and eastern parts and then
00:37by the end of the night cloud thickening across Potsdam and Northern Ireland as further rain
00:42moves in here. The wind is coming in from the west but staying fairly brisk introducing
00:46some quite chilly air though. Temperatures even in towns and cities dropping into around
00:50about 9 or 10 Celsius. But there will be sunshine from the word go across central and eastern
00:55areas on Sunday morning. Clouding over though quite quickly across the west as rain moves
01:00in across Northern Ireland stretching into parts of Scotland, Northern England, Wales
01:05as we move through the day. Some of this rain will be heavy at times accompanied by some
01:09strong and gusty winds too. Windy across the rest of England and Wales but generally drier
01:15compared to Saturday. But still a lot of cloud around, some showers as well. Some sunny spells
01:20across the western and northern isles but even here a few showers are possible. And
01:25even though the wind is coming in from a southerly direction it will still be quite
01:28chilly 14 to 17 Celsius under the cloud and rain. The best of any brighter breaks edging
01:34towards 20 or 21 degrees. Through to the evening time on Sunday the outbreaks of rain across
01:40parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland, Northern England will continue to push their way eastwards
01:44breaking up into more showers as we head overnight into Monday. Elsewhere clear spells and showers
01:50and that will keep temperatures from falling too low again. Generally falling too low double
01:56figures to take us into Monday morning. And with that ridge of high pressure building
02:00in on Monday we should see generally a drier picture. You can still see a band of cloud
02:05and rain across Northern Ireland, Southern Scotland, Northern England but it should break
02:08up to the showers for the afternoon. But plenty of sunny spells developing across the rest
02:14of England and Wales. Northern Scotland also largely dry with sunny spells here and the
02:19winds generally lighter compared to the weekend. And that will just lift temperatures a little
02:24further with a bit more sunshine around 22, 23 Celsius. So just feeling a little warmer
02:29where the cloud stick is generally 17 to 19 Celsius further north. So a more settled start
02:37to the new working week as we go from Tuesday onwards and temperatures start to rise as
02:42well. Potentially we could see highs around the mid to locally high 20s for a short period
02:47of time before turning unsettled again. For more information on this you can follow us
02:51on our YouTube and our social media channels. See you again soon.
