00:00Welcome to your evening updates from the Met Office.
00:02It's been a pretty mild week, certainly in the South,
00:05but it is changing.
00:06It's going to turn quite a bit chillier
00:08over the next couple of days.
00:09And the reason for that's a cold front
00:11tied into a big area of low pressure
00:13just clearing away from Iceland.
00:15But for us, it's all about this weather front
00:17trickling its way southwards, introducing the colder air
00:20as well as bringing some cloud and outbreaks of rain.
00:23If we rewind the clock,
00:24we can put the temperature profile on
00:27and see how that colder air
00:28has already pushed into the far northwest of Scotland.
00:31And as the cold front sinks its way slowly southwards,
00:34it will be ushering away the milder air
00:37and that chillier feel will be spreading south
00:39accompanied by strengthening winds
00:40getting very gusty through the night
00:42and during Friday across Northern Scotland,
00:44accentuating that colder feel.
00:48Okay, let's again come back to Thursday evening
00:51and see where that weather front is
00:53because it's not just bringing the colder air,
00:54it is bringing cloud and rain
00:55to Southern Scotland and Northern Ireland,
00:57but that's trickling southwards.
00:59So turning drier here and turning wetter
01:00across Northern England, Wales,
01:02and by morning time into parts of the Midlands
01:04and Southwest England.
01:06Ahead of it, staying largely dry
01:07and of course still staying mild as well.
01:11Cold front introducing the colder air,
01:13but not especially cold in terms of the numbers
01:16because that strengthening wind
01:18should help to stop too much frost.
01:20Still pretty cold though and feeling cold
01:22with that strong wind across Northern Scotland.
01:25Onto the details for Friday,
01:26in a very different day then across South Wales,
01:29the Midlands, Southwest England,
01:30starts dull and damp and that rain will trickle
01:32into East Anglia and the Southeast.
01:35Could be some heavier bursts,
01:36but most of it will be fairly light and drizzly,
01:38but a very different day nonetheless
01:40and it takes most of the day before it shimmies away,
01:43lingering in Kent in particular, well into the afternoon.
01:46As it clears though, look at that brighter skies.
01:49Most of us will see some spring sunshine,
01:51but there will also be some showers.
01:53Wales, Northwest England,
01:55lots of showers for Scotland and Northern Ireland
01:57through the day.
01:58They'll be blowing in on that stiff wind,
02:00which will be very lively across Northern Scotland
02:03in particular and with the colder air,
02:04yes, there will be some snow on the tops of the hills
02:07mixed in with those showers.
02:09Hail and thunder is possible as well.
02:11Temperatures down on where they have been through this week,
02:13actually probably not too far off average,
02:15but feeling colder, particularly with that wind
02:18across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:20As we go through Friday afternoon,
02:22that rain should finally scoot away from Kent
02:25and then generally clear skies over the Midlands
02:27and Eastern England during Friday evening.
02:29Plenty more showers though, packing into the West,
02:31particularly Western Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:34Still some further snow on the hills
02:36and those showers will be heavy
02:38and that's how we go into the weekend.
02:39More showers to come.
02:41Parts of the Midlands, Eastern England,
02:42much of the South will have a dry and bright start
02:45to Saturday, but it won't last.
02:47The clouds will bubble up and then it's a showery day.
02:50Heavy showers moving in.
02:52Further thunderstorms possible.
02:54Don't be surprised if we don't see a little bit of hail
02:56in those showers also.
02:58They'll be moving through on a brisk wind,
03:00so a mixture of sunshine one minute, it's fine.
03:03The next minute, you've caught a downpour.
03:05Temperatures will be lower, certainly lower
03:06than they have been for most of this week.
03:08Single digits for many and again, feeling colder
03:11with the wind, particularly in Northern Scotland,
03:13but also for Northern Ireland and a chilly feel
03:15with that wind across Wales also.
03:18These are the temperatures for Friday
03:20when compared to average.
03:21So yes, it's turning colder on Friday,
03:23but temperatures not far off average.
03:26On Saturday, you'll notice even more of those blue shadings
03:29suggesting temperatures between three and six degrees
03:32below average, so perhaps feeling colder still on Saturday
03:36compared to Friday.
03:37Not especially cold for the time of year,
03:39but because it's been mild,
03:40you will notice that dip into the weekend.
03:44Sunday does look drier and brighter for most of us.
03:46For more details on that,
