02 March - National weather forecast presented by Annie Shuttleworth

00:00Good morning. It's a bit of a wet start to the weekend for some of us, but there is some
00:03dry weather on the way for Sunday. However, particularly across southern areas and into
00:08the areas of the Midlands, there's some quite persistent rain to come through the next few
00:11hours. This could turn to snow over the hills and some lower levels, but anything that settles
00:17should melt quite quickly as the temperatures start to pick up. This area of rain will push
00:22into more northern areas of England, southern Scotland too this afternoon, bringing a risk
00:26of some further hill snow here and potentially some quite heavy downpours. Further south,
00:31it should stay, turn much drier this afternoon with some sunshine developing, but there will
00:35still be a risk of showers, particularly across parts of Wales and the southwest. Across Northern
00:40Ireland, it's going to be a mix of sunny spells and showers throughout today. These showers
00:44could turn quite heavy and bring a risk of hail too. And across the far north of Scotland,
00:48this more persistent area of rain will turn to snow over the high ground too through the
00:53afternoon. So, there's a risk of a few centimetres accumulating across parts of the Grampians
00:57and the Highlands. There's going to be quite a cold wind, particularly across these northwestern
01:02areas, but also into the southwest too. So, it will still feel quite chilly out there.
01:05However, in the far southeast this afternoon, as we do start to see a bit of sunshine developing,
01:09it will start to feel a little bit more pleasant. Many areas will see a dry evening, particularly
01:15across parts of Wales and southern and central England. Further north though, particularly
01:18the northeast, it will stay quite cloudy with some more persistent rain arriving through
01:22the night. With clear skies developing, it's going to be a colder night than last night
01:27tonight. So, quite a sharp frost is expected, particularly for inland areas of England and
01:32parts of Scotland, where we could be down to as low as minus seven by Sunday morning.
01:36So, many areas will see a frosty start to the day. There could also be some mist and
01:40fog around, particularly across these central areas where we've gone off to a wetter start
01:44today. However, that fog should clear quite quickly and there is a chance of some, there
01:49is a much better chance of dry and brighter weather throughout Sunday. There will still
01:53be some showers moving into parts of Northern Ireland in particular, but also parts of South
01:58Wales and the southwest. However, these should be much lighter and I think there's a much
02:02lower risk of seeing those showers. So, many areas should see a much drier and brighter
02:07day and in the sunshine it will feel fairly warm, almost spring-like. Across the east
02:13coast though, notice we do have this slightly thicker cloud and some patchy rain and that
02:17could clip the east coast from time to time throughout Sunday afternoon. However, it does
02:21look like it will stay dry throughout Sunday night and into the start of next week, but
02:26it will be another very cold start on Monday. Have a lovely weekend. Bye bye.
