00:00Hello there. Welcome to your latest broadcast from the Met Office. It's been quite a chilly
00:06Saturday with outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow in places. Looking at the bigger picture,
00:11the reason for this is we have this cut-off low across the UK at the moment. The jet stream
00:15diving south to the west of the UK, meaning this low-pressure system is stuck across the
00:21UK at the moment. The blue is indicating quite cold air associated with that too. However,
00:26by the end of the weekend and beginning of next week, jet stream starts to move again,
00:31low-pressure systems slowly move in from the Atlantic. For the rest of Saturday evening,
00:36outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow will continue to push north and westwards across northern
00:39England, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Covering the snow is possible over the highest ground
00:44and then icy conditions following behind this as the sky is clear. Icy conditions also across
00:49the rest of England and Wales under clear skies and with light winds here, we could
00:53see some dense fog patches developing across central, southern, south-east England to take
00:58us into Sunday morning, some tricky travelling conditions possible. Some showers still continuing
01:04around the coast as well, so leading to an icy risk here. Temperatures, towns and cities
01:10close to if not below freezing, particularly under the clearer skies, minus 2 to minus
01:144 Celsius in the countryside. So, it means a mixed start to Sunday, some dense fog patches
01:20first thing. These should slowly lift and break and then overall, Sunday should be a
01:24brighter day than Saturday, drier too. Plenty of sunny spells which could be hazy at times,
01:30particularly across the north and the east. This weather front close to eastern coast
01:34could give some outbreaks of rain at times here and also a scattering of showers still
01:39down the western side of the UK. But in between, plenty of dry weather, bright conditions too,
01:44sunny spells and this will just lift temperatures a little higher than Saturday, 7 to 9, possibly
01:5010 or 11 in the best of the drier, sunnier weather towards the south with winds generally
01:55light for many. Into the evening time, showers across western areas, they tend to fade. This
02:01weather front still gives the risk of some outbreaks of rain, particularly across north-east
02:05Scotland. Overnight, under the clear skies, we'll see the return of some frost and some
02:10icy stretches as well as some fog patches too. But towards the end of the night into
02:15Monday morning, this weather system will bring the temperatures higher here, around 3 to
02:205 Celsius by the start of Monday. Elsewhere, we'll see temperatures close to, if not below,
02:25freezing. This weather front bringing wet and windy weather quickly into the south-west
02:29as we move through Monday morning. Cold frosty start elsewhere but brightening up quite quickly,
02:35perhaps some fog lingering for a time, say through the Vale of York before brightening
02:39up here. And then into the afternoon, the clouds start to bubble up. We'll see this
02:44band of showery rain push into Northern Ireland, Wales and perhaps central-southern England.
02:48Elsewhere, generally staying dry but the Northern Isles still continuing to see outbreaks of
02:53rain with some fairly brisk winds here too. Winds coming in from the south, just lifting
02:58temperatures a little more, 9 to 12 Celsius across the UK. This weather system will then
03:04continue to track its way eastward through the rest of Monday but tending to become showery
03:10as it does so. And then the rest of the week tends to remain fairly unsettled, though high
03:15pressure to the east may settle things down by the end of the week. See you again soon.
