00:00Hello there. Welcome to your latest Met Office broadcast. We've had an interesting start
00:06to the weekend. We've seen some rain sleet and snow pushing northwards. That's all thanks
00:10to an area of low pressure which is sat right across the U.K. at the moment. This is the
00:14jet stream dipping southwards across the west and northwards across the east and this area
00:19of low pressure has been stuck right across us and will continue to remain in place through
00:24the rest of the weekend. The blue colours indicating quite cold air. Good news is as
00:28we head towards the end of the week the jet stream starts to move again and we do start
00:32to import some milder air but also some wet weather too particularly in the west. So back
00:37to the rest of Saturday. We've got areas of rain sleet and snow across England and Wales
00:42pushing northwards. Covering of snow perhaps over the higher ground to lower levels. You
00:46may see some snow falling but generally some slushy deposits. Brightening skies across
00:50southern areas. Won't feel too bad in the sunshine after a cold start and some lying
00:55snow over the higher ground. Sunshine and showers for Northern Ireland. Again wintry
00:59over the higher ground. Some hail to lower levels too and brighter skies for Scotland
01:03but across the far north we do have some wet and windy weather pushing its way across the
01:09north there. And temperatures well on the cold side under the cloud of rain sleet and
01:13snow. 4 or 5 degrees in places up to around 7 to 9 in any brighter spells. As we move
01:19through the evening time we could still see the risk of a few heavy showers initially
01:23across the far south east as that weather front is always nearby. The areas of rain
01:27sleet and snow continue to push north and westwards as well across Northern Ireland
01:32through Scotland. Again a covering over the higher ground is possible. Overnight clearing
01:36skies for England and Wales. We'll see light winds here and we'll see some dense mist and
01:41fog patches forming. Some icy stretches after recent rainfall too. Temperatures, towns and
01:47cities close to if not below freezing. Minus 2 to minus 5 in the countryside. So there
01:52could be some tricky travelling conditions particularly across central, southern and
01:56southeastern areas. First thing on Sunday morning with the fog patches, some icy stretches.
02:00But they lift and break and then it's a brighter day tomorrow. The lowest pressure is starting
02:05to fill in a little so generally drier for many. There will be some showers across western
02:10areas. Thicker cloud perhaps down the east coast giving a chilly feel to the day here.
02:14But most places across central and eastern areas should stay dry. Still a little breezy
02:18across the northern isles there. But for most it will be generally light winds and
02:23temperatures perhaps a little higher across southern areas with given a little more sunshine.
02:29Then over the course of the beginning of next week we'll see weather fronts starting to
02:33pull in from the Atlantic. So it will be a cold night Sunday night into Monday morning.
02:38Some frost and ice around. But then weather systems just behind me there start to move
02:43in and we start to see the return of temperatures slightly above average for the time of year.
