09 August - National weather forecast presented by Craig Snell
Transcript
00:00Hello, there. Welcome to your latest forecast on the Met. As we move into Thursday, a warm
00:05spell of weather for all of us, really, especially compared to what August has offered so far.
00:09And it's all courtesy of this warm plume of air coming up from the south as we go through
00:12Thursday. It's quickly replaced by some cooler, fresher air going into Friday, temperatures
00:17returning to something a little bit nearer to normal. And that really sets us up for
00:21a weekend of sunshine and scattered showers. Back to the here and now. As we end Wednesday,
00:27we end the day on a fine note. Plenty of late evening sunshine out there. Quite cloudy
00:33across Western Scotland, however, and could see some spits and spots of rain too. And
00:37then later on in the night, some low clouds and mist and fog also forming elsewhere across
00:42the country. And it's all courtesy of the warmth and humidity. It's really going to
00:46give us a very warm night for the time of year. Temperatures in the south probably not
00:50falling much lower than 18 or 19 degrees in a few spots. So a little bit uncomfortable
00:54for sleeping. So we start Thursday off on a bit of a murky note in places. Could just
01:00see some tricky travelling conditions in a few spots. But that mist and fog will quickly
01:04burn away, leaving lots of sunshine around the country. Northern Ireland, however, probably
01:09remaining quite cloudy. Sunshine really limited here as we go through the course of the day.
01:14The best of the sunshine reserved for the far north of Scotland and especially so for
01:18Lincolnshire down to East Anglia and central southern England. And it's here where we'll
01:22see the warmest of the temperatures. Could see highs reaching 27, 28 degrees, especially
01:27across Lincolnshire into the Midlands. Even the far north of Scotland, we could see a
01:31few spots reaching around 25 or 26 degrees. And for most, it's certainly warmer than what
01:37August has given us so far. Into the evening, we start to see a band of cloud and showery
01:42rain spread its way in from the west. That's heralding the return to something a little
01:46bit fresher. The rain generally quite light and patchy across the south. But to the north
01:51of this rain band, we could potentially see a few heavy and possibly thundery downpours,
01:55especially across the far north of Scotland. And for all of us, it's another fairly warm
01:59and muggy night. And then on to Friday, that whole system begins to work its way right
02:05across the country. We probably will hang on to the warm air for one more day across
02:09the far east of England. So here, temperatures still reaching the mid 20s. That may well
02:14trigger a few sharp downpours here. But generally, for most, it's a mixture of sunny spells and
02:19scattered showers. The most heaviest showers probably for Northern Ireland and Scotland
02:23where we'll see a few rumbles of thunder too. Elsewhere away from the far east, temperatures
02:29back down to where they should be for the time of year, reaching around 20 to 22 degrees.
02:35And then a quick look at the weekend. And for most of us, it's going to be a weekend
02:39of sunshine and scattered showers. Temperatures where they should be for the time of year.
02:43But you can find out more about the weather where you are over the next few days on our
02:47website or follow us on our social media channels. But that's all for me. Take care
02:51and I'll see you again soon.
