22 May - National weather forecast presented by Aidan McGivern.
Transcript
00:00Hi there. High pressure is here and it's here to stay for some time.
00:04That means a lot of settled weather, plenty of warm sunshine as well across the UK,
00:08but not for everyone all the time.
00:11The position of the high pressure to the west of the UK means that some weak weather fronts will occasionally affect the far north
00:16and we'll continue to see a bit of a cool breeze coming in from the North Sea at times and actually for Monday afternoon
00:22that's also bringing some areas of cloud to eastern Scotland, northeast Scotland, the Pennines, a few light showers here and there
00:28and one or two light showers possible for the east of England
00:32but the cloud here tending to break up leading to sunny spells by the end of the afternoon.
00:36Now of course with that keen breeze from the North Sea it's going to feel significantly cooler around the coast, mid-teens perhaps,
00:41but also around the Irish seacoast we've got a bit of a wind blowing through so 15 Celsius there for real.
00:48But inland where we've got the warm sunny spells of course temperatures will rise through the day, high teens, low 20s,
00:57warmest spots somewhere around southeast Wales, southwest England, 23 possibly even 24 Celsius,
01:04so a very pleasant day to come for many with that warm sunshine.
01:07High UV levels, watch out for those if you're spending time outside.
01:11Now into the evening we'll see areas of cloud tend to drift south across central parts of the UK,
01:18also thicker cloud layers moving in by the end of the night to western Scotland, parts of Northern Ireland
01:24and you can see some light showers here approaching.
01:27The breeze coming in from the west for the north of the UK, coming in from the north for the east of the UK
01:33and in between where we've got clear spells and light winds,
01:37temperatures in some shelter spots down to 2 to 4 Celsius but otherwise generally high single figures.
01:42So certainly a fresh start to Tuesday but it won't take long with the strength of the sun at the moment
01:47for temperatures to rise through the morning.
01:50Again we've got some of these areas of cloud in a slightly different place compared with Monday,
01:54affecting say Northern and then Central England, parts of Wales and the southwest for a time,
01:59some higher cloud as well as some stratocumulus, so perhaps less sunny compared with Monday for many places.
02:07Temperatures as a result, high teens 20, 21 Celsius towards the south,
02:12perhaps a sunnier day though for East Anglia and the southeast but still this cool breeze
02:16where we've got coastal wind coming in from the chillier seas.
02:20And for Scotland we've got thicker cloud and some outbreaks of light rain and drizzle
02:24moving through the north and northwest and that'll keep things a bit cooler here.
02:29But for most it's staying settled and it continues to be that way into Tuesday night,
02:35into Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, in fact probably for the rest of May
02:40there's a strong signal of a high pressure to be close to the UK to keep things on the quiet side,
02:47although not always on the sunny side.
02:51So spring has finally sprung, plenty of warm sunshine out there
02:56but some weather to talk about at times as well.
02:58Bye.
