00:00Hello and welcome to our latest weather update from the Met Office. So it's been a pretty
00:05grim and gloomy start to Friday, especially across southern and western areas. And this
00:12is all due to this area of low pressure that's going to be moving north eastwards across
00:17the UK throughout the rest of Friday and throughout the weekend. It's going to be bringing some
00:22pretty strong winds. If we look at those isobars, they're quite tightly packed together, but
00:27it is also going to be bringing us some pretty heavy rain too. Now let's have a look at the
00:32detail for the rest of this afternoon. While the rain is continuing to make its way north
00:37eastwards, bringing some pretty heavy bursts at times, and we have got a yellow rain warning
00:42in force across Northern Ireland for this. But we will also see some pretty strong winds
00:47too. We do have a yellow wind warning for southwest England, southern and western parts
00:52of Wales too, where we could see some coastal gales. That's pretty unseasonable for this
00:58time of year. Now, some places will remain dry, particularly across Scotland and north
01:03east England, remaining driest for longest here. That may be the odd spot of rain throughout
01:08the rest of this afternoon before that rain does reach you into this evening. We might
01:13also see the odd sunny spell across some parts of East Anglia and southeast England, and
01:18it's here that temperatures might just reach into the low 20s, though elsewhere generally
01:22remaining in the high teens and feeling cool in that brisk wind too. Now, moving through
01:28to this evening and that rain will continue to spread north eastwards into northern England
01:33and Scotland, and it's across Scotland that we could again see some pretty heavy rain
01:37there that could cause some disruption. Elsewhere, things will start to dry up and we'll see
01:42some clearer spells, especially for eastern areas. But as we go into the early hours of
01:47Saturday, showers will swiftly move in from the West. Now, winds will remain pretty strong
01:53still overnight, so temperatures will not be dropping that far down tonight, so remaining
01:59in the low teens, maybe in some rural areas under those clear skies, we might just see
02:04temperatures dropping into the mid single figures. So to start Saturday, a slightly
02:10better start to the day than today for some, but swiftly we will see some torrential downpours
02:17and maybe even some thunderstorms developing across much of the UK. Today's rain will continue
02:23to linger across the far north of Scotland throughout much of the day on Saturday, and
02:28it will be another windy one, especially across the southern half of the UK, where we could
02:33see gales inland, so maybe gusts up to 45 or 50 miles per hour. So do you bear that
02:39in mind if you are out and about throughout this weekend? Though there will be a few more
02:45sunny spells around on Saturday, so temperatures faring a little better, maybe seeing a few
02:50more places getting into the low 20s. Generally, temperatures looking like they'll be staying
02:55in the high teens for most and feeling cooler as well in that breeze. Now, if you were hoping
03:01that Saturday evening was going to be any better, it does look like those showers will
03:04linger on for a time as we go through into Saturday night, though they will start to
03:09ease the closer we get to Sunday, though we will still continue to see these showers
03:14pushing eastwards, maybe a little drier across the far southeast into Saturday evening and
03:21remaining windy too with that yellow wind warning still in force. Thank you for listening
