00:00Hello there, welcome to your weather update from the Met Office. Now through
00:04the next 24 hours the air turns very mild, quite muggy in places but also with
00:10some quite intense rain. The rain spreading in from the west through
00:13Wednesday night. Clearer skies through Wednesday night across the far north of
00:17Scotland as the rain approaches eastern counties through the middle part of the
00:21evening. Notice these brighter echoes representing some heavy downpours, the
00:26winds also picking up some strength. A lot of low clouds and even though the
00:30rain will slowly clear from the west, always the chance of some patchy rain
00:33and drizzle. Clearer skies across Shetland as well as Orkney through the
00:37night. The winds will pick up from the southeast here. Look at these
00:40temperatures though, holding around 12 to 16 degrees Celsius. So despite a breeze,
00:46a lot of cloud, outbreaks of rain, it's a relatively mild start to the day come
00:50Thursday morning. Now through Thursday you can see this rain still covering
00:54much of Scotland, nudging towards the far northeast, showery bursts coming in
00:58across Northern Ireland. The rain just bumping along the south coast there but
01:03inland we'll see some brighter skies as the cloud breaks up, allowing for some
01:07showers to develop. But with windward coasts, always more cloud and some patchy
01:11rain and drizzle. But notice the rain does become confined to the far
01:15northeast of Scotland through Thursday afternoon and in any sunshine
01:20temperatures will reach around 21 to 24 degrees Celsius. So not a bad afternoon
01:26away from the far south where we hang on to more clouds, some showery bits and
01:30pieces as the rain then slowly moves in across Orkney and Shetland. So through
01:35Thursday evening and overnight, many areas becoming drier. Where you see that
01:39low cloud, always the chance of some patchy rain and drizzle though,
01:42particularly over the hills and the coastline. But inland, some clearer skies
01:46from time to time and temperatures holding up, it's not going to be a
01:50particularly cold night. So come Friday, it's a fairly quiet day. Yes the rain
01:55will stall across Shetland, some brighter skies, clouds coming and going
02:00and a few showers developing, particularly across Scotland, central and
02:03southern parts of Scotland, northern and eastern England. But a few further south
02:07as well, brighter skies further west and again temperatures up to around 20 to 24
02:11degrees Celsius. But notice towards the west there's a swirl of clouds and some
02:15showers and these showers through Saturday afternoon will be fairly
02:19frequent across most parts of the country. Temperatures also will be
02:23slightly lower than Thursday and also Friday and some of these showers could
02:27turn heavy with the risk of thunder. So let me just show you the bigger picture
02:32and see how this is going to play out through the weekend. So bands of showers
02:37will move in on Saturday, no one immune to that wet weather. The low pressure
02:42system then tracks across Scotland, so a bit of a squeeze on the isobars through
02:46Saturday, certainly for Northern Ireland then Irish Seacoast as this low moves
02:50towards the east. So through Sunday morning the winds will slowly ease from
02:56the west, so if you do catch some showers on Sunday they could actually be a
03:00fairly slow moving and we return to more unsettled weather as we head into the
03:04beginning of next week.
