00:00Hello there, and welcome to your weather forecast from the Met Office. As we look to New Year's
00:04Eve, we will see some rain lingering for most of the day across the north, but elsewhere
00:09hopefully we'll see something a little bit brighter. But for all of us, it is certainly
00:13going to remain very mild for the time of year.
00:16So Thursday evening, we'll see this area of rain gradually work its way northwards. It
00:19will eventually stall across parts of Northern Ireland, Southern Scotland and Northern England,
00:24so quite a wet night to come here. Also quite increasingly windy, especially along Irish
00:29Sea coast, could just see winds reach gale force at times. To the north of it, largely
00:34dry and clear, could just see a touch of frost across the far north of Scotland. But to the
00:38south of it, another very mild night, temperatures for most of us staying well in double figures,
00:43certainly not what you'd expect for this time of year.
00:46So New Year's Eve morning, we start off with a band of rain across the south, but that
00:50will quickly clear away, but the rain across the north just lingers on for most of the
00:54morning, so a very soggy morning, especially for parts of Scotland. Once again, across
00:58the very far north, here we will stay fairly dry with some sunny spells, and to the south
01:03of it, it should start to turn drier and brighter as we go through the course of the afternoon.
01:07Best of the sunshine probably across the Midlands and down towards East Anglia. But again, look
01:12at these temperatures, 14 to 15 degrees across the south, could potentially be the warmest
01:16New Year's Eve on record for the UK.
01:20So going into New Year's Eve evening, that rain across Scotland will fizzle out a little
01:24bit, but that will be quickly replaced by further rain as we approach midnight. So looking
01:29at the scene at midnight as we ring in 2022, could see some rain across parts of Northern
01:33Ireland into Western Scotland down towards North West England. Elsewhere, we should be
01:39largely dry, but again, look at these temperatures, we'll be ringing in the new year on a very
01:44mild note.
01:46For the rest of the night, what we'll see is increasing winds once again over towards
01:50the west. Largely dry further east, but up towards the north, further rain at times.
01:57And on New Year's Day itself, we'll see further rain coming in across many western parts.
02:02So we could potentially just see a few heavy bursts here and there. Best of the sunshine
02:07probably down towards East Anglia and the southeast during the course of the day, but
02:11may also just cheer up towards Northern Ireland as we head into the afternoon.
02:16But 2022 will start off on a very mild one once again. We'll see temperatures reaching
02:2213 to 15 degrees right across the country. So even mild right across the very far north
02:27of Scotland there. So we will see a mild start, but it will gradually turn colder as we head
02:34throughout the New Year bank holiday weekend.
02:36But that's all from me for now. I wish you a happy new year. You can always check us
02:40out on our social media channels.
