28 June - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello, welcome to your national weather update.
00:02Blue skies across parts of the east,
00:04but very gray skies further west.
00:07Big contrasts across the country today.
00:09This big swirl of cloud out in the Atlantic
00:12is an area of low pressure.
00:14But it's fairly slow moving, and these weather fronts
00:16are only gradually trundling across the country.
00:20They've already brought quite a bit of rain
00:22to Northern Ireland and Western Scotland,
00:24easing now from Northern Ireland,
00:26but persisting across parts of Western Scotland.
00:28And we have a Met Office yellow warning in place
00:31for Dumfries and Galloway as that rain continues
00:33to mount up through the day.
00:34Could cause some issues.
00:36Parts of the central belt may well stay dry,
00:39but we'll see that rain trickling into West Wales
00:41and the far southwest of England during the afternoon.
00:44Northern Ireland turning brighter,
00:45but there will be some heavy showers mixed in
00:48with the sunny spells later.
00:49Very windy across the west as well,
00:51especially around Irish Sea coast.
00:53A bit breezy in the east, but look here,
00:55dry and bright for much of the Midlands.
00:56Certainly sunny spells for East Anglia and the southeast,
00:59and that's where we'll see the top temperatures,
01:0022, 23 degrees.
01:02Compare and contrast with 16, 17 under the rain and the wind.
01:06That's going to feel pretty grotty.
01:09Now, that rain will continue to edge its way eastwards
01:12through the evening, eventually turning up in the Midlands,
01:14crossing Northern England, fizzling out in some areas,
01:18but perhaps pepping up again later in the night
01:20over Northern England and parts of the Midlands too.
01:23Clearer skies across Scotland and Northern Ireland,
01:25so things turning a lot drier here.
01:27Temperatures mostly holding up in double figures.
01:30In fact, many towns and cities will stay in the teens.
01:33On to Wednesday, it's a bit of a messy one,
01:36certainly a grey start across eastern England
01:38with cloud and outbreaks of rain.
01:40That should tend to push away out into the North Sea,
01:43but will affect eastern Scotland for a time in the morning.
01:46And then it's a case of watching the showers break out.
01:49So some pretty heavy showers likely
01:50during Wednesday afternoon.
01:52Some bright colours you can see there.
01:54Northern England, parts of southern and eastern Scotland,
01:57but down across Wales, southwest England too.
02:00Now, think about tomorrow, the winds will be lighter.
02:02So the showers will be quite slow moving,
02:04which means some places could get a real soaking,
02:06whereas others may not see much rain at all,
02:08may stay largely dry.
02:09Southeast England, for example, not too many showers here.
02:13Some good spells of sunshine and a much brighter day
02:15for southwest Scotland compared to today.
02:17But if you do catch those showers,
02:19they are going to be heavy during Wednesday afternoon
02:22and into the evening.
02:23Temperatures, well, again, it's east seeing the highest values,
02:2723, maybe 24 Celsius across east Anglia,
02:30generally elsewhere, low 20s or high teens.
02:32But as I said, the winds will be lighter
02:34with a bit more sunshine,
02:35probably feeling a little better than today
02:37across those western coasts in particular.
02:40During the evening, still a risk of some heavy showers
02:43over northern England, Scotland,
02:44but increasing chance of seeing some further thundery showers
02:47coming up into the southwest.
02:49And that'll lead into another day of sunshine
02:51and slow-moving showers on Thursday.
