28 November - National weather forecast presented by Alex Deakin.
Transcript
00:00It's getting colder again, and yes, some places will see a little bit of snow.
00:06Almost all of us are likely to see some frosts in the coming mornings as well.
00:10Here's the bigger picture from space. It's a bit of a mess.
00:13There's a swirl down to the southwest. That's an area of low pressure.
00:16That plays a part later in the week.
00:19But for the time being, we're mostly focused on this little area of low pressure heading down through the North Sea.
00:24It's bringing the cold winds with it and also bringing some wet weather,
00:29mostly of rain inland so far, but increasingly through the day as the colder air pushes in,
00:33we'll start to see some snow across northeastern Scotland in the showers here.
00:38Initially over the hills, but coming down to lower levels by this evening.
00:42Further south, there's a little bit of showery rain just grazing the westernmost parts of Wales.
00:47But for many, it's dry and bright with some decent spouts of sunshine.
00:50But it ain't warm out there. Temperatures struggling single digits for the vast majority
00:55and we're feeling colder with this wind as it strengthens along these North Sea coasts.
00:59And that wind will bring in a few more showers through this evening and overnight.
01:04Northern and eastern parts of Scotland, but also southeast Scotland, northeast England.
01:08There is the possibility of sleet and snow, maybe even waking up to a covering on Wednesday morning.
01:14We do have a Met Office ice and snow warning in place.
01:17Whatever flavor the showers are, rain, sleet or snow, they could make for some slippery surfaces.
01:23For many though, it'll just be dry and clear through the night.
01:26We'll keep a bit more cloud over Wales and southwest England.
01:29One or two rain showers possible here through the night and that will help to keep the temperatures up here.
01:33But for many, we will be down to freezing and certainly many rural areas will be well below zero to start the day on Wednesday.
01:41So a pretty extensive frost and more of these wintry showers coming into northeast England,
01:46northern and eastern parts of Scotland through the morning.
01:49So again, still potentially pretty slippery through the morning rush hour.
01:52Again, for most, it's a fine bright day on Wednesday.
01:55Fairly cloudy over southwest England, south Wales, certainly initially,
01:58but the cloud may well break up as we go through the day and we should see quite a bit of sunshine.
02:03And the winds will still make it feel really quite cold in northern Scotland
02:07and along some North Sea coasts and temperatures generally a little lower on Wednesday.
02:12Despite a bit more sunshine temperatures for many, only three or four degrees.
02:15That is well below average for the end of November.
02:19And again, we'll see that frost firming up pretty quickly through Wednesday evening, a fairly extensive frost.
02:24And again, where we've got these showers coming in, a mixture of sleet and snow showers,
02:28northeast England, northern and eastern Scotland.
02:31Things potentially turning icy as we head into Thursday.
02:35Also, as we head into Thursday, down to the southwest, there is some rain gathering.
02:39That's that area of low pressure we saw earlier.
02:42And this has been giving us headaches all week.
02:44It is moving up from the southwest, bringing moisture and bumping into the cold air.
02:48But it's also bringing slightly milder air.
02:51Now, the computer models haven't been in agreement, but they are getting closer.
02:54And they're now suggesting that most of the wet weather will stay to the south.
02:58But if it does move a little further north and hit that colder air, it could still provide some snow in the south.
03:03Further north, we are likely to see those sleet and snow showers continuing to come in from the North Sea.
03:08So plenty still to keep our eyes on throughout the rest of this week.
03:11Keep up to date yourself.
