00:00A white Christmas is still likely in northwest Scotland with some snow showers here late in the day on Christmas Day.
00:06But for most places, it's going to be a green Christmas, just too mild for any snow.
00:12If you are driving home for Christmas on Friday, you probably encountered some pretty grim weather.
00:16This band of rain has been tracking northwards, now providing some snow over the higher routes across parts of Scotland to the north of the central belts of the A9.
00:26Not too pleasant. Further south, a few rain showers scattered about for Northern England and Northern Ireland as we head into Christmas Eve.
00:32But much of the south will be dry.
00:34The wind's easing a touch and it will be a pretty mild night for most places, with temperatures staying well above freezing.
00:41But still pretty cold in northern Scotland.
00:44Wind blowing through here and a chilly feel on Christmas Eve morning, with still some sleet and snow falling.
00:51And for a time, that could get down to relatively low levels.
00:54But the rain tending to ease through the day through the central belt of Scotland and actually for many places,
00:59it's looking like a dry and a bright Christmas Eve with some decent spells of sunshine.
01:04The winds will pick up and we'll see some showers coming into Northern Ireland and later on southwest Scotland.
01:09And they could be pretty heavy.
01:11But as I said, most places dry and bright for much of the day.
01:15It will be mild again, certainly across the south, temperatures in double figures, maybe up into the teens.
01:21Still pretty cold across northern Scotland.
01:24So then one more sleep.
01:26And as we head through Christmas Eve night, well, you may actually get woken up by these heavy showers moving through on gusty,
01:32gusty winds, a blustery night to come with some fairly heavy showers moving across northern England and Scotland and more coming
01:39into the west through the early hours.
01:41And that's how we go into Christmas Day with quite a few showers around.
01:45But it won't be a cold start and it won't be a white start either, with temperatures generally well above freezing.
01:53The big day itself, a bit of a mishmash, really.
01:55There will be some fine and bright weather with sunny spells, but there will be showers in most areas.
02:00And the cloud likely to be thickening up across East Anglia and the southeast with some outbreaks of rain.
02:06It could be quite persistent around the middle of the day here before that clears away.
02:10Plenty of showers further north, but some places not seeing too many showers and having, as I say, some Christmas sunshine.
02:17And it is going to be mild with temperatures, double figures for the majority, eight or nine across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:24It will be quite windy as well with the winds coming in from the south of the southwest, hence why it is so mild.
02:29But look at the winds in the northwest switching around through the day and reintroducing perhaps the colder air here.
02:37So it is going to be a mild day on Christmas Day, but late on as those winds switch direction,
02:43colder air may well push back in across the Western Isles and the highlands of Scotland, which could allow some late snow flurries here.
02:52And then as we go through the night, we do open the door to more snow showers coming in and the ice bars closing together as well.
02:59So very gusty conditions with snow showers peppering Western Scotland as we head into Boxing Day.
03:05We have issued a Met Office yellow warning for snow and ice.
03:08Not a day of Boxing Day to be heading across the highlands with gusty winds and fairly frequent snow showers,
03:14although they may ease during the day on Boxing Day.
03:18So in summary, Christmas Day mild for the majority.
03:21There'll be rain in places with late snow showers in the northwest.
03:25By Boxing Day, though, that cold air is right across the UK.
03:29So a much chillier feel, bright and breezy sort of day with a few showers.
03:33And those showers will be falling asleep and snow across parts of the northwest.
03:37Make sure you stay up to date, particularly if you're travelling anywhere over the Christmas period.
03:42Best way to do that, of course, is to follow us on social media.
03:45But for now, I wish you a very Merry Christmas.
