00:00Hello. Welcome to your latest update from the Met Office.
00:03A rather grey day for many today.
00:05There's some wet weather across parts of the North West
00:08in particular, and we'll all see a spell of wet
00:10and pretty gusty winds as we go through the night.
00:14That spell of wet and windy weather
00:15is going to come from this big chunk of cloud
00:18out in the Atlantic.
00:19Ahead of it, cloud has been spilling in from the North
00:22West through the night, and it's providing rain and drizzle
00:24across Scotland, Northern Ireland,
00:27parts of Northern England.
00:28The odd little bit of drizzle further south,
00:30but much of Southern England, South Wales will stay dry.
00:33But further north, we'll keep the wet weather going.
00:36And if anything, that rain is going
00:37to get heavier later today across Northern Ireland
00:40and South West Scotland.
00:41Some brightness here and there, but generally, it
00:43is pretty grey.
00:44But it's also very mild, certainly
00:47compared to yesterday.
00:48Temperature is much higher, double digits almost
00:50across the board.
00:51Still some cold air lingering across the North East,
00:53pretty chilly once more across Shetland.
00:56But otherwise, temperatures 11, 12, maybe 13 Celsius.
01:00The wet weather, though, is going
01:01to pep up through this evening, turning
01:02very soggy for Northern Ireland and central and southern
01:05Scotland.
01:05Then this zone of rain will work its way steadily
01:08across England and Wales.
01:10Gusty winds as well, heavy showers falling on behind
01:13for Wales and the South West.
01:15Those showers turning a little wintry over the hills
01:17of Northern Scotland.
01:19You can see this swirl out into the North Sea
01:21by the end of the night.
01:23That is a developing area of low pressure.
01:26And it's bringing with it behind it colder air.
01:28So temperatures dropping through the night,
01:30but still with the strength of the wind
01:32actually mostly holding up at 6 or 7 degrees Celsius.
01:36But that swirl, that area of low pressure
01:38does need watching because it is developing
01:40as it moves into the North Sea.
01:41And just on its back edge, the isobar
01:43is really pinching together there.
01:45So it could get very windy through the early hours
01:48and into the first part of Wednesday morning
01:51across that coast of North East England.
01:53So that's just something we need to keep a close eye on.
01:55Could be some very strong winds here at least
01:57for a time during tomorrow.
02:00It'll be a cold wind blowing everywhere through tomorrow
02:02and bringing a mixture of sunshine and showers.
02:05Probably not too many showers in the morning
02:06across East Anglia and the South East and large parts
02:09of Scotland having a mostly dry day.
02:11The showers will chiefly be of rain, but some hail is possible.
02:15And there'll be frequent showers down the East Coast
02:17where there will be that strong wind continuing to blow.
02:20Some decent spells of sunshine there developing
02:22for Northern Ireland, Central and Southern Scotland late on.
02:25But it's going to feel cold through Wednesday.
02:28Temperatures back to single figures,
02:30but add on that wind and it will feel significantly colder,
02:34I suspect, than today.
02:36Cold enough for those showers to start
02:37to turn wintry over Northern Scotland later on.
02:40Mostly over hills, but coming down to lower levels
02:42possibly through Wednesday night across Northern Scotland.
02:46This zone of wet weather could just slide down
02:49the western side of the UK.
02:50That's going to be a wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow.
02:55So that's something we need to keep an eye on.
02:57You could wake up to a covering across parts of Wales,
02:59northwest England on Thursday morning.
03:01Could turn things quite icy as temperatures start to fall away.
03:05For many, Thursday will be a fine day thanks to a little ridge
03:08of high pressure.
03:09But then there's more weather systems moving in
03:11on Thursday night.
03:12And again, if they interact with the cold air,
03:14that could at least for a time provide some sleet and snow.
03:18And then other weather systems waiting in the wings
03:20to come in as we head into the weekend.
03:23So plenty going on through the rest of this week.
03:26Temperatures up and down, some sleet and snow in places,
03:29and some strong and gusty winds.
