01:45but that isn't an alpaca.
01:46Who's this?
01:47It was a donkey.
01:49Oh, he's beautiful.
01:50Hello, Amos.
01:51So, where are your alpacas?
01:52They're over there.
01:53Can we go see them?

02:15Hello.
02:16Hello.
02:17Hello.
02:18These are our alpacas.
02:19What are their names?
02:20Chico and Bella.
02:21Bella.
02:22Which one's which?
02:23How do I tell them apart?
02:24Bella's the brown one and Chico's the white one.
02:25Okay.
02:26Chico's the white one?
02:27Yes.
02:28Is he a boy?
02:29Yes.
02:30And Bella's a girl.
02:31They're beautiful, aren't they?
02:32And they're having a good look around.
02:33Which one's more friendly?
02:34Chico.
02:35Yeah.
02:36Is he the curious one?
02:37Yeah.
02:38What is your favourite thing about having alpacas?
02:39They're so cute.
02:40They're so cute.
02:41They're so cute.
02:42They're so cute.
02:43They're so cute.
02:44They're so cute.
02:45They're so cute.
02:46They're so cute.
02:47What is your favourite thing about having alpacas as pets?
02:49Their fluffy tails and their fluffy coats.
02:52I really like their fluffy faces.
02:54What do you girls like to do with Bella and Chico?
02:57Watch them walk around the field.
02:59Yeah.
03:00They like rolling around on the grass.
03:03Do they get muddy?
03:04Yes.
03:05Do they enjoy mud and dust baths?
03:07Yeah.
03:08Always eating too.
03:10There are more and more alpacas here, but do you know where they came from?
03:14South America.
03:15That's right.
03:16That's right.
03:17It's quite far away, isn't it?
03:18Yeah.
03:19Do you know where they live in those countries?
03:20In high mountains.
03:21Yeah.
03:22They live really high up in the mountains, and that's why they have nice woolly coats
03:26to keep them good and cosy.
03:28But your alpacas have just been shaved, haven't they?
03:30Yeah.
03:31Why did you shave them?
03:32Otherwise they will get too hot in the summer.
03:35That's very good.
03:36It's quite important, isn't it?
03:37Yeah.
03:38Make sure they don't get too warm.
03:39And what happens with their wool after you shave them?
03:42You can make them into hats, scarves, and other things that are warm.
03:47Can you make them into jumpers?
03:49Yeah.
03:50Yeah?
03:51Nice, warm, cosy things?
03:52Yeah.
03:53Hello, you.
03:54Look at their funny toes.
03:56They're good for climbing on mountains, aren't they?
03:59What ages are Chico and Bella?
04:01Chico is three, and Bella is four.
04:06So they're still very young, aren't they?
04:08Yes.
04:09Alpacas can live for 15 to 20 years, which is pretty long.
04:14We've got two other alpacas.
04:16Oh, great.
04:17So you've got a small herd.
04:20It's nice that you've got a group of them.
04:22They are very sociable animals, so they prefer to live in groups or herds.
04:26Rory, can you tell us some more fleecy facts about our friends here?
04:31Of course, Fern.
04:33One, a male alpaca is called a macho,
04:36a female is called an embra,
04:38and a baby alpaca is called a cria.
04:43Two, alpacas come in all sorts of colours,
04:47like brown, white and black.
04:52Three, alpacas are herbivores,
04:55which means they like to eat plants, grass and hay.
05:01Four, when an alpaca sits down, it's called cushing.
05:07Five, alpacas are very nosy
05:11and love having a good look at anything that is new to them.
05:21Like all pets, alpacas need lots of careful looking after.
05:25So what do you girls have to do to look after the alpacas?
05:28We clean out their poo in the field.
05:30That sounds really fun.
05:32Should we give it a go?
05:33Yes.
05:34You have to use the poo-poo scoop and collect it all.
05:37That sounds good. Should we go?
05:39Yeah.
05:45See you later.
05:51Here's a nice pile.
05:56It rolls right out, doesn't it?
06:05Nice fat raisins.
06:14There's a lot in that one, isn't there?
06:17What about that big pile there?
06:25I think that's enough, yeah? A nice full bucket.
06:29It's hard not to stand on it, isn't it?
06:32Do you girls have to do this often?
06:34Yes.
06:35Because otherwise it would get full of poo
06:37and they spend most of their time out in this field.
06:40They do, don't they?
06:41Yeah.
06:42Alpacas are used to the cold and they spend most of their time outside
06:45but it's important that they're able to access a shelter
06:48just in case they need it.
06:50Good job, girls.
06:52We've got a whole barrow full of poo here.
06:55Just here?
06:56Yeah.
07:01What now?
07:02Now let's go and give them some food and water.
07:05That sounds good. Come on.
07:12Wash your hands!
07:26Just in here?
07:27Yeah.
07:33Right, what next?
07:35Let's go feed them.
07:36Yeah, come on.
07:51What do alpacas eat?
07:53They eat hay and grass.
07:57These pellets?
07:58Yeah.
07:59That looks good.
08:01Are the pellets kind of a nice treat for them?
08:03Yeah.
08:04Because they're full of vitamins, aren't they?
08:06Yeah.
08:08All right, come on. Grub's up.
08:10See if they eat it.
08:11Yeah.
08:13What do you think they prefer? Which is their favourite?
08:15Grass, hay or pellets?
08:17Pellets.
08:18Pellets.
08:19Bella's eating her food now.
08:21Yeah, she must be hungry.
08:23So is Chico.
08:26His jaws are moving from side to side.
08:28Yeah.
08:29It helps him grind down the grass, doesn't it, to make it soft?
08:32Yeah.
08:33Look, you can see his bottom teeth sticking out.
08:38And he doesn't have teeth on the top, does he?
08:40No.
08:43What does his jaw do? It goes sideways, doesn't it?
08:51Yeah.
08:56Bye, Peppa Pig!
08:59Grandad has put Chico in a harness so we can give him a bit of a cuddle.
09:03What does he feel like?
09:04Soft.
09:05He's really soft.
09:06Cuddly.
09:07And cuddly. He's lovely.
09:09If your alpacas could go anywhere or do anything, what would they do?
09:15If our pets could do anything, they would teach baby alpacas to swim.
09:20And they would use their legs to kick in the water.
09:23And they would make lots of splashes.
09:26And make lots of waves.
09:28And when they were done, they would get out of the pool.
09:31And they would shake from side to side.
09:33And then they would use a hairdryer to dry themselves.
09:36And they would get big and fluffy.
09:39Alpacas are very gentle and good-natured animals.
09:42But they don't tend to be the cuddliest of pets.
09:44So why don't we make alpacas that we can cuddle?
09:47How do you feel about making some alpaca sock puppets?
09:50Yeah.
09:51Shall we get started? Who wants to choose a sock?
09:53This one.
09:54OK. And I'll get this one.
09:56I thought woolly socks would be good.
09:58There's the first one.
09:59And the second one.
10:00And the third one.
10:01And the fourth one.
10:02And the fifth one.
10:03And the sixth one.
10:04And the seventh one.
10:05And the eighth one.
10:06I thought woolly socks would be good.
10:08There's their face.
10:09And then this can be like their long neck and their fluffy body.
10:12Yeah.
10:13Yeah? Right.
10:14So what do we have to do first?
10:16What do alpacas have here? Lots of it.
10:19Hair.
10:20Shall we stick some hair on?
10:21Yeah.
10:22OK.
10:23OK.
10:24So we have their fuzzy heads.
10:27And what else do they have?
10:29Feet.
10:30Really big ones too.
10:33So this bit is a little bit tricky.
10:35But I can help you out.
10:40These look like pretty good alpaca ears, don't they?
10:42Because they're very long.
10:43So what's next?
10:44What else should we do?
10:45The eyes.
10:46Yeah.
10:47Let's do some eyes.
10:53I love those eyes.
10:54And those ears are pretty good too.
10:57What else do we need other than eyes?
10:59Noses.
11:00Nice squishy nose.
11:02I know what I'm going to name my sock puppets.
11:04What?
11:05Rory.
11:06So I think it needs some glasses.
11:09Do you think that will work?
11:10Yeah.
11:11Have you ever seen an alpaca with glasses before?
11:14No.
11:15No, me neither.
11:16Why don't we put some more wool down their backs?
11:18Yeah.
11:20Yours is looking great, Rosie.
11:22It's even got a bit of a tail.
11:24What do you think the alpacas will say when they see our puppets?
11:26I think that they'll say that there are loads of us.
11:30And their herd's gotten bigger.
11:32Yeah.
11:34Are we all finished?
11:35Yeah.
11:36And what are the names?
11:37Emily, Rachel.
11:39Nice to meet you, Emily.
11:41Nice to meet you, Rachel.
11:43I'm Rory.
11:44Should we go show the alpacas?
11:45Yeah.
11:46Come on.
11:51Alpacas.
11:56Look.
11:57Come on, fella.
11:58Hey.
11:59Hi.
12:01What do you think the alpacas think of our puppets?
12:04I think they're curious about them.
12:05And they've got three new friends.
12:07That's nice.
12:08Their herd has gotten a little bit bigger with their three friends.
12:11I had such a wonderful time meeting you and your alpacas.
12:14They're so cute.
12:16You're welcome.
12:17Thank you for coming.
12:25Hi, Rory.

12:28How was your day?
12:29Oh, it was great.
12:30I had a brilliant time with my friends.
12:31That sounds excellent.
12:32Pets are great.
12:33But you shouldn't touch an animal unless the owner says it's okay first.
12:34Two pets you definitely can play with are ours.
12:35Go to the CVB's website and play the My Pet and Me game.
12:36What a fantastic time we've had.
