00:00Jockey Dylan Davis's goal going into this year's Saratoga race meet was to beat his
00:05record of 19 wins from last year.
00:08With two weeks still to go in Saratoga, he's already achieved that, and he also earned
00:12his first grade one victory in the U.S. aboard Carson's run.
00:17Growing up, my father was a jockey, but he retired in his early 40s, but I was eight
00:24years old when he retired, so dad was training, and he had a few horses, and I started jogging
00:32in the backfields here at Saratoga by the annex, and I was hooked ever since.
00:38He was ponying me on the track and really, really took off.
00:41I knew that exactly that that's what I wanted to do with my life.
00:44I currently have the three grade ones, and they're all with Kristoff.
00:47The first two were in Woodbine, and then my first one this last Sunday in the Saratoga
00:52Derby with Carson Run.
00:54My first grade one in the States, and to be at Saratoga, hometown, everything I can't
00:59even put into words.
01:00It was an incredible feeling.
01:01Carson is a very nice horse, and I had him since the very beginning.
01:05Working with him, he could get a little nervous this year, but being able to switch off and
01:10relax him was the most key thing.
01:12I ended up finding myself last in that race, but I was very happy with the way he was handling
01:17himself, and then just working a trip out from there, saving ground, and then tipping
01:20out to the outside, which is the position he likes.
01:24And at that point, I was like, come on, Carson, we can get it done.
01:27I really was excited, but staying focused at the same time.
01:30It's legend of time, Royal Majesty, Carson's Run on the outside with big strides to the
01:37lead, and Carson's Run has won the Saratoga Derby.
01:41So many emotions, all that hard work I put in to finally get there, just a lot of gratitude
01:48and thanks to everybody, and to finally make it.
01:52Queen's MG, she's a very nice two-year-old filly, young horse.
01:56I got very lucky to get on her.
01:58I ended up asking her for a cue down the lane.
02:01She responded very nicely, and those are the things is, when you're in the right place
02:06at the right time, especially in Saratoga, where the horses are out, you can get lucky
02:09and pick up a good horse.
02:16I rode Pounce for Mark Cassie in the Lake George.
02:19She ran very well.
02:20She was having a good trip, and she was just being used too much early and not finishing,
02:25so I was able to relax her in mid-pack and cover her up, and she ran very exceptional
02:31that day.
02:32It is Pounce in the late stages, and Pounce pulls away to win it by a leg.
02:37I think my specialty is being able to get a horse to relax, disregarding what others
02:41are doing, being able to ride my own horse, and almost like I'm by myself in the race.
02:49It's better to get the horse to get comfortable wherever that is, and then relax, and then
02:54just wait for the stretch run and always have something to finish up with.
02:59It wasn't just an overnight thing.
03:00It was more of a process.
03:02It took about three or four years of a lot of hard work to really build the foundation
03:07and build the business to where it is today, and definitely ride waves in racing.
03:12You have lulls, but to be able to stick it out and push through and always look on the
03:17other side of the fence and look for better, that's what we did.
03:21We kept pushing through and riding that wave and looking for bigger and better things.
03:28The quality of horses I've been riding has improved, and I'm having a lot of success,
03:33so just continuing to ride the train.
