00:00In 2017, Sotsas, the future French Derby and Arc winner, sold right here at the Arcana
00:07Yearling Sale.
00:08Now, six years later, his first yearlings are getting ready to go through the ring.
00:13We talked to his owner, Peter Brandt, and Bloodstock agent, Michel Zorolo, about his
00:17prodigious family and what to expect from those first offspring.
00:22My big attraction to him really was that I heard he was very good looking and he was
00:28a brother to Sister Charlie.
00:31And Sister Charlie, we were campaigning at the time, knew how good she was because she'd
00:36run second in the Prix D'Anne.
00:40She got into a lot of trouble, was almost knocked down.
00:43She looked like she would be absolutely nowhere.
00:47And then she came flying and made second, which was, I knew then she was, this had to
00:53be a really good horse.
00:55When I went to Monceau, the obvious thing was that I was going to look at a brother.
01:00And it was a fairly easy pick.
01:02I mean, he was a very good looking horse.
01:03He was very athletic.
01:04He was a good mover.
01:08The pedigree was, you know, it was a happening pedigree at the time.
01:11And by C.Uni, he was a sire that I loved.
01:14We purchased him and I left him there with Jean-Claude Rouget, who, you know, trained
01:22him.
01:23And he ran a two and three and four and won three Group Ones, including the Arc de Triomphe.
01:33And maybe his most impressive race was breaking the track record in the French Derby at a
01:38mile and a quarter.
01:40I was there at the French Derby and it was a very, very impressive race.
01:44You know, Jean-Claude Rouget thought he was going to run very well.
01:47And then, you know, there were some great, you know, horses in there, you know, Persian
01:52King was the favorite.
01:54And there were, you know, a number of really well-bred French horses from the big barns
02:00and families in France, as well as from England.
02:03And he just ran a powerhouse, you know, he won pretty easily and by a number of lengths.
02:10And it was very impressive.
02:19Winning the Arc is really one of the, unfortunately, I wasn't there because of COVID.
02:25But my wife and I, you know, watched it in Connecticut and, you know, we were all dressed
02:30up as if we were there, but it was a great thrill.
02:35I mean, there were, if there was any neighbors close by, they could hear us yelling, that's
02:40for sure.
02:41You know, I think the family is great and they were all really good looking.
02:50I'm very anxious to see his babies run next year.
02:54I think we bred 12 mares to them because we really believe in them.
02:58They all seem to have a great disposition, good mind, easy horses to be around, good
03:03looking, scopey, correct, very correct, the way he was.
03:07I mean, all in all, it's a good bunch of yearlings.
03:11They don't look like they're going to be super precocious, so they're going to cater to a
03:15type of buyer, you know, people who want sort of classic horses, but I think they should
03:21sell very well.
03:22I think they'll make Sot-Sas proud and I think they should make Peter proud and cool more.
03:28I'm a pure believer and I, the foals are very good looking and I'm getting very good
03:33reports from French breeders and very good reports from the Irish and English breeders.
