00:00Six years ago, Kristen and Matthew Essler founded 30 Years Farm, located just outside
00:07of Saratoga, with the goal of building something that would be in their family for generations
00:12to come.
00:13Now, they're sending their first yearling to the prestigious Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale.
00:19Our love of horses started about 40 years ago when we decided to do something different
00:25and start looking for a piece of property in Saratoga.
00:28And we fell in love with this farm.
00:31We put it into contract on our 30th wedding anniversary.
00:36So hence the name, 30 Year Farm.
00:38So we started really small.
00:40We only had two employees.
00:42And during the week, I did as much of the work as I could myself.
00:46And I started to read everything I possibly could.
00:50I went to any farm that would have me so that I could shadow them and work for the
00:55day.
00:57And we started out slow.
01:00My background was in biology.
01:02So for me, the breeding part of horses made a lot of sense.
01:08Once we felt like we had our feet under us, we decided to upgrade our broodmare band.
01:14And in 2021 is when we bought Atchalaya.
01:19I still remember it.
01:21I still have my notes.
01:23And as soon as we had purchased her, we felt like we had something really special.
01:27We knew what we had in Casa Creed.
01:30And we were always impressed by that hardworking, beautiful runner that he is.
01:37Little did we know, he was going to continue to show us what he could do.
01:42Casa Creed, what a classy individual, wins the Kelso.
01:47She wasn't full to authentic when we purchased her.
01:51And we were excited about that successful dirt sire and also excited about the mares
01:59that authentic had been bred to and thought it was just going to be blue skies with this
02:05authentic.
02:06Atchalaya creates beautiful foals.
02:10She has been a straightforward, easy-to-manage filly and has been prepped up to become a
02:18beautiful animal.
02:19We were hopeful that she would help us get to the select sale, Saratoga.
02:26So this is our first going into that sale.
02:29We've sold with the New York Reds phasic sale, but we haven't sold at this sale.
02:34So we are super excited.
02:36I birth the babies on the farm with our team.
02:40I try to be at absolutely every birth and I will absolutely miss having her on this
02:47farm.
02:48But this is the right thing for her and we are excited for her future.
02:53When we first started, I expected it to be hard.
02:58I don't think I ever thought it would be this hard.
03:01There's some wonderful times, there's times that you're crying and there's times that
03:05you're celebrating.
03:07Things that aren't hard really aren't worth it.
03:10To me, this is a business.
03:11I'm really trying to create something special with my husband that we can leave for our
03:16family and for generations to come.
03:18And I want to raise animals that we can really be proud of.
03:23And in the years to come, people will know 30-Year Farm and what we're trying to do here.
03:30And it will be something lasting.
