00:00Champion Forte is just one of the new stallions at Spendthrift Farm this year.
00:07We spoke with Mark Toothaker about Grade 1 winners Arabian Lion, Teba, and Zandon.
00:13We're excited this year to be bringing in four new stallions here at Spendthrift, led
00:17by the Champion Forte, followed up with Arabian Lion, a Grade 1 winner of the Woody Stevens,
00:24along with Teba, who won three Grade 1s, a horse that very talented son of Gunrunner,
00:31and fourth, Zandon, the Bluegrass winner, a horse that made $2.2 million Dance to Every
00:36Dance.
00:37But exciting four horses coming in here to Spendthrift.
00:40Teba, you know, got the whole racing world on edge when he brought $1.7 million at the
00:47two-year-old sale, being by Gunrunner, out of a flatter mare, gorgeous horse.
00:52He probably has more bone and body than any Gunrunner that I've seen, a horse that did
00:58something in my lifetime I've never seen at all, to win the Santa Anita Derby in only
01:03a second start.
01:04He would go on to win the Pennsylvania Derby in impressive fashion, and he closed out his
01:09three-year-old year with a win in the Grade 1 Malibu.
01:13He's $35,000, sold out in about an hour.
01:17It was crazy, you know, the demand for him.
01:20He's got a great way of moving, but he's got a lot of bone and a lot of muscle.
01:25You know, I've had many people out here tell me that they've not seen another Gunrunner
01:29with a body like that.
01:32Arabian Lion, we were so excited to be able to get him because of being a son of Justify.
01:37Arabian Lion was very fast, and he was always a horse that Bob always had kind of at the
01:42top of his list as a horse with tremendous talent.
01:45He ran a very good race out here at Keeneland when he was second in the Lexington, and Bob
01:51decided to go the conservative route and run him in the Sir Barton out on Preakness Day,
01:57and he came out of that weekend with the fastest buyer of anything that ran that weekend.
02:03To bounce out of that race, come back three weeks later, Belmont Day, Grade 1 Woody Stevens,
02:10you know, horse just left there running, was in a great spot all the way around there.
02:14And, you know, when he made the lead, he was gone.
02:16It's Arabian Lion in front, on the inside, Drew's Gold in second, and it will be Arabian
02:22Lion to win the Grade 1 Woody Stevens.
02:26For us to have him here, $30,000 for our breeders to beat Bob, one of the hottest stallions.
02:33But what makes him even more special is his female family is all a Phipps family.
02:38His mother is a distorted humor mare that was stakes placed.
02:43His third dam is the great personal ensign.
02:46So when you back up that this horse ran 109 buyer when he won the Woody Stevens, and he's
02:52by justify, he's out of a Phipps family that's as deep as you could ever hope for a horse
02:57to be.
02:58It gives you a lot of hope that this horse, you know, five years down the road, what could
03:03he be standing for?
03:06Sandin's Black Beauty, you know, from the first time we saw him, you know, it's just
03:10a horse that's big, scopey, stretchy, he's 16.3, a horse that was a very good two-year-old
03:19that had a great three-year-old year, not only went in the Grade 1 Bluegrass, but, you
03:23know, he ran a very good third in the Kentucky Derby.
03:27He's had a very good four-year-old year, he was second in the Met Mile, he was second
03:33in the Whitney, he won the Woodward extremely consistent, a horse that just gave his all,
03:40showed up every dance.
03:41Sandin is gonna get his Grade 2 victory here in the Woodward as he pulls away at the end.
03:47Sandin by four and a half lengths.
03:49I think he's at a price point at 12.5, he fits a lot of breeders' programs at that price,
03:55gives them what they're looking for, and hopefully gets them a gorgeous sale weanling or yearling.
