00:00After the success of her brilliant fillies Mollithot and Julia Shining, Stone Street's
00:07Dreaming of Julia was named 2022 Broodmare of the Year.
00:11We stopped by Stone Street to speak with Barbara Banke about what makes this mare so special,
00:16and we visited Dreaming of Julia herself and a few of her young, unraced fillies in the
00:20pipeline.
00:22Dreaming of Julia was beautiful since day one.
00:25When she was born, she was the product of a grade one winning mare, Dream Rush, who
00:31won the test and other races in New York, and she was elegant looking.
00:38She looked like a painting.
00:40And she stayed that way her entire career, still is.
00:45I have a tradition.
00:47My birthday's at the end of August, and of course the sales are in August and September,
00:52so I'll come in and say, who am I going to give myself for my birthday?
00:58And that year she was the obvious choice.
01:01She's brilliant, brilliantly fast, and had a tremendous stride, really long stride, just
01:08ate up the ground, great mind, nicest horse in the world, and all of those things combined
01:16to make her a great, great racehorse.
01:18The Gulfstream Oaks was really nice when she won by something like 20 lengths, and
01:24we had expected her to win, but we didn't expect her to win by that much.
01:28She's going to win by 20!
01:31Dreaming of Julia devastates the Gulfstream Oaks!
01:36Well, Dreaming of Julia has produced beautiful filly after beautiful filly, and of course
01:41the great Malathot, who won I don't know how many grade ones.
01:46She was one that we had decided, well, we need to sell something, and so we did sell
01:51her, and after we sold her and her career, we said, we're not going to sell any more
01:57fillies out of Dreaming of Julia.
02:01So we had Julia Shining, who is a fantastic horse, and didn't quite have enough points
02:11to get in the Kentucky Oaks, but she's a great racehorse as well.
02:17Dreaming of Julia has a two-year-old filly by Madari Adoro, who is spectacular, and she's
02:23now with Todd Pletcher, who's had, now this will be the fourth filly from Dreaming of
02:30Julia, and she looks great.
02:34The yearling is spectacular.
02:36Once again, she's not in the sale.
02:39She'll be going to Ocala for training.
02:42She's a Curlin, like Malathot, like Julia Shining, and now she has a weanling by Into
02:49Mischief.
02:50I don't know how Into Mischief snuck in there, but this one looks spectacular as well.
02:56One of these days, we might even get a colt, but who knows?
03:01Dreaming of Julia is our top mare.
03:05We look forward to seeing her baby, and she does not disappoint.
03:10So every year, there's something really special from that mare.
03:15We always thought that she should be considered as Broodmare of the Year, just on the basis
03:20of Malathot, but with Julia Shining and the ones to follow, she's definitely Broodmare
03:28of the Year, Broodmare of the Decade.
