00:00This week is a big one for Etraham's Helo Jumzein.
00:05He's got his first yearlings going under the hammer at Arcana.
00:08Few of the 20-strong draft have a more interesting backstory than Lot 38.
00:12He was purchased as a foal right here by Kentucky Derby winning owner
00:16Ramiro Restrepo. We spoke to Restrepo about the magic of mage
00:20and what he expects from his colt this week.
00:23And winning the Kentucky Derby, as far as its impact on me,
00:27it's increased your profile and been fortunate to land some new clients
00:33and the ability to do what we love, which is buy racehorses and have them
00:38go on and compete. So it's opened up a few doors and it's just been an amazing
00:44amount of attention and love sent your way, which is just indescribable.
00:49In 2018, I came here for the first time and I ended up buying a no-name ever here
00:53that we eventually resold for a tidy profit as a two-year-old in training.
00:59And it was right when no-name ever was really taking off.
01:02So in my career, first crop stallions have always been something that I've been
01:09drawn to. If you could, I guess, look at a highlight of the horses that I've bought
01:14that I've gone on to either sell well or perform well on the racetrack and black
01:18type races, they've all been sons or daughters of first crop sires.
01:22So I was here last winter. I ended up pairing up with Hubie DeBerg and
01:26Martin Buick, who are two amazing people. And obviously, Hubie's an amazing judge
01:31of equine talent and Martin's been a good pal for a few years.
01:36Any of us who go to horse sales, you know, you start getting the shakes.
01:39You know, you're like, should I buy or not? And this Helo Jumzane colt caught my eye.
01:45I've been a fan of Helo Jumzane. He's a son of Kodiak. You know,
01:48you saw him as a two-year-old go on and do some nice things and be one of the
01:53higher-rated, you know, two-year-olds in France. And then as a three-year-old,
01:57I remember when he beat Calyx. That kind of caught my attention.
02:01I know Nico of Etraham stands a Helo Jumzane and I asked him if, you know,
02:06if I went in there and bought a colt, if he'd be interested in partnering.
02:09And Nico had seen the colt and I liked him a ton. So we went ahead and got in there
02:15and threw some punches and we're able to land them at the full sale. So here we are.
02:20You know, he's grown up here the last, what, eight, nine months and we're ready to rock.
02:24You know, he was accepted by our con into the sale and, you know, hopefully he does well.
02:28I hope everyone here sees what we saw in him way back in December.
02:32And he's just, you know, someone that's spoken highly about on the sales grounds
02:37and that is positively accepted by the marketplace. That's the most important thing.
02:41And hopefully, you know, he's purchased by some pretty successful connections
02:45and he goes on and has a great career going forward.
02:48That's all really you can ask for is to have tempered expectations and then, you know,
02:52be very happy if things work out. As far as myself, just really enjoying this sale.
02:57I'm also going to be shopping it for the first time.
02:59I've been here four times in the winter, but it's my first summer sale.
03:03It's the first year that doesn't coincide with the Fasig New York bread sale.
03:06So I just came here on a plane of, you know, 50 Americans.
03:11Most of them are coming here for the first time.
03:12So there's a lot of excitement to come over here and participate in this sale.
03:16We've heard about it and read about its success for so long.
03:20And it's a blessing to be able to come over here and be a part of it.
