00:00Multiple Graded Stakes winner Catalina Cruiser is a multi-generational homebred for lanes
00:07and farm on both sides of his pedigree.
00:10We caught up with David Ingordo on the Sun of Union Rags and took a look at a few members
00:15of the stallion's first crop of yearlings.
00:19Catalina Cruiser has always been a big, well-grown horse, and when he retired, he just even filled
00:24out more.
00:25He's one of the most magnificent individuals you're going to find that's big and strong
00:31and has the body to go with his race record and his substance.
00:36I mean, he's just impressive.
00:39His win in the True North on the Friday before Belmont, and he set a track record.
00:44So for the horse to come from California to run in that quality of a race, set a track
00:48record at a place like Belmont Park where all the greats have run, that one really stamped
00:55for me what we all knew about Catalina Cruiser.
00:59And I think after that race, it quelled any doubts anybody had.
01:04...together, it is going to be Catalina Cruiser up in time to win it over...
01:10Catalina Cruiser is stamping his offspring to look like himself.
01:15They're flashy, they're big, they're strong, and they have this precocious look to them
01:21that I don't think they'll be limited to sprinting.
01:24I think they'll be able to get two turns and ultimately be a classic horse like Catalina
01:29Cruiser's sire, Union Rags, and his broodmare sire, Mineshaft.
01:37This Catalina Cruiser colt out of She's Trouble, he's always been a mature colt.
01:44He's got a lot of attributes that I like from Union Rags' side, through the Catalina Cruiser,
01:49and he's got a great mind, always been a great colt to deal with.
01:52We're hoping for the best, and believe the Catalina Cruisers are very nice foals, we've
01:56got a couple other ones too.
01:58They have a lot of leg to them, they've got a lot of scope to them, and of course they've
02:02got a lot of flash to them, all of them have a lot of flash.
02:05We have a Catalina Cruiser colt out of a John's Causeway mare named Thatcher that a good friend
02:13of mine and client, Paul Winandy, has bred.
02:16Paul and I raced this colt's half-sister named R-Superfreak.
02:21We don't know yet what we're doing, if we're keeping it or racing it, but he's as good
02:27a yearling as we have on all of Wayne's End, and he's got all the attributes with Catalina Cruisers.
02:33The biggest compliment any stallion can get when they're starting out, and the people
02:38that bred to them, are breeding mares back.
02:41So a lot of people are getting these really, really good foals by Catalina Cruiser, and
02:47they're coming back in subsequent seasons after having a good first foal.
02:51I'm a balanced fanatic, and the Catalina Cruisers as a whole that I've observed have
02:59great balance, and then he's got a tremendous hindquarter and hip and great width behind,
03:06and all his offspring do as well.
03:09And I see these Cruiser babies as a little bit even better versions than him, because
03:14I think they're a little not as maybe growthy as he was.
03:18I can see them running at two, and I can see them having a two-year-old champion.
03:22But I look at every horse, would I buy it?
03:25And I want to buy some Catalina Cruisers, because they're the kind of horses that we
03:29buy that win races and win the big races.
