00:00At this year's Fasig-Tipton July Horses of Racing Age and Selected Yearling Sale,
00:06Fasig-Tipton has partnered with Equitrace Technologies to improve their horse identification
00:11process. We spoke with the founder of the product and also tagged along with Fasig-Tipton's Randy
00:17Angel to see the Equitrace technology in action. We started Equitrace because we were trying to
00:25address some of the big problems facing the horse industry. We started with the foundation of
00:30identification and then we worked to address some of the other issues, so traceability,
00:38what happens to horses after they're racing, and also medication. And so we've worked to build a
00:45system that provides real value to the people using it, but also has these side benefits of
00:52helping the whole industry. Fasig is the first in the United States to use this technology to
00:57positively identify every horse. It speeds up the process, it's all recorded, so you've got a
01:03verifiable chain of this horse was identified by this person at this time in this place. This is
01:12something that should have happened 10 years ago. It's cutting-edge, but it's really a positive
01:17thing for the industry. I truly believe it's something we're all going to be using here in
01:20the next couple of years. It not only traces the horses, eventually if you have the microchip
01:26that can take their temperature, it can rip it for us at the sales. If you scan a horse as it
01:30ships in and it shows that a horse maybe has a high temp, we can right away isolate that horse
01:34before it could spread through the barn. They have been doing this system at Goffs and now they're
01:39working with us here at Fasig-Tipton. It's been an awesome company to work with and we're very
01:43happy to be partnering with them. My name is Randy Angel and I'm one of the horse identifiers here at
01:49Fasig-Tipton and we're here today to demonstrate the Equitrace horse identification app. There the
01:57microchip number has come up on the scanner and on his little device there, the horse's barn
02:04location and pedigree has come up. It's real easy and we get a little further down the road,
02:09they're telling me that the markings will come up on the iPad as well. At Equitrace, we're trying
02:17to produce really useful tools to capture information that everyone needs to manage
02:22an efficient farm or training facility at the site of the horse. For example, for medications,
02:27we've made it so we recognize over a thousand medications by barcode alone. It also records
02:33GPS every time the microchip is scanned, so people are using that in all kinds of ways.
02:38Scan on and off a van and you have a complete movement record for the horse. With this system,
02:45very practical and people are just doing it. We've had really, really good initial traction
02:51here in the States, here in Kentucky. Many of the leading studs, we've been working with Lane's End
02:59who have kindly helped us. So we've been delighted with the initial uptake in the States and we're
03:06working to further that.
