Greg Bedard and Nick Cattles discuss the recent developments with the Patriots and around the NFL, including some potential trade targets for New England. Myles Garrett has asked out of the Cleveland Browns, and Cooper Kupp has been informed by the Los Angeles Rams that they plan on trading him. Which, if any, of these two players should the Patriots go after? Plus, who will win the big game?

00:46Gregg, the first thing I want to ask you about is Dante Skarniecki.
00:50And I want to ask you about Dante because you were the first person to write about the
00:55possibility of him floating around.
00:57Now, you mentioned multiple times on the podcast earlier this week, or maybe it was even late
01:02last week, I can't remember, that Skarniecki, you know, two people you spoke with kind of
01:09downplayed it.
01:10One person said that he could, you know, play a role as an advisor, consultant, but he would
01:16be there as like a sounding board for McDaniels and maybe Doug Moreau.
01:19So that was the first thing that came out.
01:22Bill O'Brien on his podcast came out and said that Skarniecki had already been at the
01:27facility, had already spoken to Moreau a couple of times, and pretty much that Skar was going
01:34to be an advisor.
01:37And Skarniecki goes on the Gregg Hill Show this morning on WEEI and says, nope, I'm not
01:43working with the program.
01:44I have not been advising.
01:46Pretty much I've got nothing for you.
01:49Is this Skar being humble?
01:52Is it he doesn't want to step on toes?
01:54Is it semantics?
01:56Are they just playing semantics games here where he doesn't have the official title as
02:00an advisor and maybe not getting paid, but he's kind of floating around?
02:04What the hell is going on with Dante Skarniecki?
02:07I wasn't aware that he went on the radio today and said that.
02:15Let me see.
02:16How do I term this?
02:17Because I love Dante.
02:18And I think I sort of said on Monday when we last talked that I would be surprised if
02:27you see any traces of Dante Skarniecki anywhere, like on the practice field.
02:35I'll just say this.
02:37And Dante, and I talked about his sort of military background.
02:47He's always been team first.
02:48He's extremely humble.
02:50He wants no attention for himself.
02:52It drives him crazy.
02:53I talked about that on Monday.
02:55To me, this goes in line with this.
02:59Now, as far as describing exactly how involved Dante is going to be.
03:06I think it's an evolving thing, but I think, and I bet Bill O'Brien, as soon as I tweeted
03:13out what he said on this podcast, which it's a fabulous podcast, by the way, I mean, nobody
03:18tells stories like Bill O'Brien, he's awesome.
03:22But he kind of flaps his gums and sometimes he says too much.
03:27And I bet you he got a little flack for what he said.
03:33I think Dante is going to be involved.
03:35I think he's an advisor.
03:36I think he's already been there.
03:38I think he's just helping.
03:41He's just trying to be helpful in whatever way he can.
03:44Dante is not somebody who's going to overstep.
03:47He's not going to want an office.
03:48I mean, maybe they give him an office, but I see him being more active sort of in the
03:54off season teaching, whether it's Doug Marone.
03:58Now we know after Vrabel announced the coaching staff, there's two assistant line coaches,
04:03which I love, Hoff Tolling, and also Kugler, who is being retained.
04:10And like we said, when he was hired last year, I've heard nothing but good things about him
04:14and including, I continue to hear good things about him from the new people that are in
04:19the building that are just working with him for the first time.
04:25There's going to be a transition, like we said, and I know some people are still asking
04:30like what kind of scheme that they're going to be running.
04:33I'm telling you, it's Josh McDaniel's scheme.
04:35It's Josh McDaniel's terminology.
04:37Are they going to do some different things?
04:39Yes.
04:40But the foundation of what the Patriots are going to be doing are what Josh McDaniels
04:45and Dante Skarniecki have done for years.
04:47And I think while Doug Marone, I think it's going to be an easy transition for him because
04:54he's really based in Sean Payton's scheme.
04:58And those schemes are very similar.
05:00That scheme is very similar to what Josh McDaniels does in terms of how they run play action,
05:06how they block things up.
05:09But there's going to be a transition.
05:10So I think Dante is there for whatever they need.
05:14He's going to be there.
05:15I think this is a case of him being humble because this is just who he is.
05:20He doesn't want to bring any attention to himself.
05:22He doesn't want himself talked about.
05:26And I know that he doesn't want to be called like an advisor or what have you.
05:32If you're giving him truth serum, he would just say, if they need help and they call,
05:38obviously I'm going to be there because I think the world of Josh McDaniels, number
05:41one, but also Mike Vrabel and I'll do anything to help the Patriots be successful.
05:45Yeah.
05:46He said, I have not been helping out behind the scenes.
05:48He said it was, it's not true that he'll be consulting with the Patriots.
05:52My read on it is if he says he's a consultant, if he admits that it could be looked down
06:00upon, you know, when, when talking about Doug Morone, because, oh, does Doug Morone need
06:04a consultant?
06:05Right.
06:06And so like, I don't think scar wants to go out there and say, yeah, you know what?
06:11I'm helping, I'm holding Doug Morone's hand or I'm helping Doug figure this thing out.
06:17Like you said, that's not really scars thing.
06:19That's not what he does.
06:20So I'm not surprised that he said what he said.
06:24And I would just, I would also add this.
06:27I don't believe, I don't believe that bill O'Brien just made this up.
06:32I don't think he goes on his podcast and he's like, you know what Dante Skarniecki is floating
06:37around like he, let's not forget that bill O'Brien is very close with Doug Morone.
06:43Their best friends have been for like 30 years and he's got a great relationship with Mike
06:48Vrabel.
06:49I don't think he just plucks this out of the ether and says, oh yeah, Skarniecki is hanging
06:53around.
06:54He's been there a couple of times.
06:55I agree with you, Greg.
06:56I think, I think, uh, bill said something and Dante probably did not want it out there.
07:03So he went on radio and he squashed it, uh, the best way he could.
07:07But I, I, I agree with you.
07:09I don't think O'Brien's making it up.
07:11And uh, I do think scars the kind of guy who would absolutely help.
07:16He would absolutely help, uh, you know, the situation because of those relationships.
07:19All right.
07:20With all of that said, the staff is officially official.
07:24Let me first ask you, Greg, before we kind of break this down, uh, what is your biggest
07:29takeaway about this coaching staff under Mike Vrabel?
07:34Good question.
07:35Um, let me just call up the staff because I did, uh, I thought I had in front of me.
07:40I don't.
07:41Um, their biggest takeaway is experience smart, proven, um, a good mix of experience
07:56and youth, but very bright, uh, the ability to be coached by, you know, the head coach
08:04and the coordinators, um, at the end of the day, you know, there's been a lot of discussion
08:10about this.
08:11Uh, you know, certainly I've been, I've been a part of it over the past week, um, or past
08:18couple of weeks.
08:20You know, the bottom line for me is especially with Scarnecchia being around, you know, I
08:26think I said this on Monday, you know, it's sort of like, you know, Jules and Pulp Fiction.
08:29Oh, you send in the wolf.
08:31That's all you had to say.
08:33Um, you know, now that I know that Dante is going to be around to help things and help
08:38the transition and translate, uh, McDaniel speak into other things for the line coaches
08:46and, and the other positional coaches.
08:49Um, I think this is a pretty impressive coaching staff.
08:53I mean, I know there's no alignment on the offensive side from the coordinator to the
08:59assistant coaches, but you know, that's not always a bad thing.
09:04And that, that Rabel and McDaniel's worked in lockstep to formalize the staff, um, to
09:11me is a great thing.
09:12I mean, like I think, you know, between Marone and Todd Downing and Tony Dews, you know,
09:18you're talking about really good, uh, professional coaches who have a lot of experience and then
09:25you mix in like, you know, Thomas Brown and Ashton Grant, uh, you're talking about young
09:31up and coming, really bright people.
09:33You know, like we said, I think we said this before.
09:35I mean, Thomas Brown went from college football to one year on Sean McVay staff to being an
09:40assistant head coach.
09:41Yeah.
09:42Like if that doesn't tell you something about the guy, I don't know what to do, but I, I
09:47think at the end of the day, it's a, it's an oppressive group.
09:51I think, uh, we can put an end to all the nonsense from the end of Belichick to Mayo's
09:58coaching staff last year.
10:00Like this is a real professional football staff.
10:04I think my biggest takeaway is that this is not Tennessee part two.
10:09Um, and for whatever reason that is, there are guys from Tennessee, but I saw a tweet
10:14last night.
10:15I think it was from Paul Kaharski who tweeted out that, you know, it's, it's 10 out of the
10:1927 coaches on this staff that are from Tennessee, from Brable's days in Tennessee.
10:25That's 37%.
10:26So well under 50%.
10:28So this is not, you know, this is not what I think a lot of people thought.
10:31And I think one of the criticisms about Vrabel, especially coming from some people in Tennessee
10:37said, Oh, he's just going to get his old cronies.
10:40He's just going to bring his guys.
10:41He, you know, it's going to be a full on Mike Vrabel operation.
10:45And so this doesn't look that way.
10:47He did bring guys in, which you expect every coach to do from his old stomping grounds
10:52and guys that he has relationships with, but only 10 of the 27 are from Tennessee.
10:56So I think this is much what we talked about on Monday, Greg.
11:00It just feels like they are looking, they are looking for the best and the brightest
11:04and let's bring in some guys who we know are professionals, have experience, can run their
11:11own rooms.
11:12I mean, just the offensive line staff, you know, I really believe is, I don't know if
11:20you could do better.
11:21I mean, the fact that you've got Marone, who's been around the game forever coaching O-line
11:25And I know there's been questions about Marone and those are fair about lack of development
11:29and all of that.
11:31But you've got the guy who's, you know, the study, the steady veteran gruff, as you described
11:36them experienced O-line coach.
11:39And then you've got ho tailing, who's the kind of the affable, you know, I don't know
11:44if he's gregarious, but you know, a little bit of a soft landing spot with how tailing
11:49both of those guys have been offensive line coaches.
11:51They've run rooms.
11:52And then you've got, as you mentioned, Greg, the very well thought of Robert Kugler staying
11:56on as an assistant.
11:57I mean, that just, if you compare this offensive line coaching staff and that's not even involving
12:02scar with whatever role he's playing or not playing, man, compare this with the staffs
12:08that we've seen.
12:09It's Adrian Clem, Matt Patricia.
12:13This is just, it, it just makes me almost laugh borderline laugh at the prior iterations
12:22of the O-line coaches of the past couple of years.
12:25Yeah.
12:26And, and one thing I'd like to add to that, and I totally agree with you.
12:29I mean, everybody knows the way I feel about the offensive line and how important it is
12:35and how disappointed I've been in recent years on the way that the Patriots handled that
12:41line.
12:43You know, what's interesting is like this rarely do you see, I mean, like, I don't go
12:48through every team, but I can't remember the last time I saw three offensive line coaches.
12:53I'm sure it happens.
12:54And, you know, there's usually some helpers with, you know, certain techniques and things
12:58like that.
12:59But, you know, and then you also throw Scarnecchia into the mix on, you know, you know, possibly
13:05helping away from the bright lights and everything.
13:10What's interesting to me, Nick, is that, you know, with three guys and I was talking
13:15to somebody at the senior bowl about this and, and they were, they were giving examples
13:20on like how the Patriots have fallen behind as far as some of their staffing.
13:26And there's a feeling in, and this is like, not just on a coaching staff, but like as
13:32a whole in terms of player development and things like that.
13:36And, you know, they, they remarked about how, you know, they fallen behind and there's,
13:41there's a sense in the building on people who have been there that Vrabel has the type
13:48of cache with the crafts and McDaniel's does as well, that they can actually get some things
13:54done.
13:55Like it was one thing for those people, whether it's Elliot Wolf and Alonzo Highsmith and
13:59Pat Stewart to say, you know, this is how other NFL teams do things.
14:05This is what we need to do where we don't have these departments and we're not doing
14:10this.
14:11But, you know, maybe the crafts don't really, they're like, well, you know, are you sure
14:15you really know what you're talking about?
14:16You're new in this role, that type of thing.
14:18But with Vrabel there, they feel like they're, they feel like they might actually be able
14:22to get things done.
14:23And I wonder if this is an example, you know, talking to that person at the senior bowl,
14:28they were pointing out how the Eagles have a vast player development department.
14:36And you know, it's not just helping players transition to being pros.
14:39That's part of it.
14:41And the Patriots, I think have fallen behind there.
14:44But in terms of developing players, like it was pointing out to me that Connor Barwin,
14:49the former NFL player is, has, was brought back to the organization and his only role
14:55on the team is to coach up the bottom of the roster, practice squad guys, you know,
15:02the 53rd, 52nd guy, you know, it just to coach them up.
15:07Like he spends time, he goes over because the positional coaches don't have time to
15:11do that during the season.
15:13So you see a team like the Eagles and, you know, lose people with injury.
15:16You have these guys ready to go.
15:18And I, I look at that offensive line staffing and I'm like, I wonder if one of these guys,
15:24whether it's hoteling, which his nickname is Haas, from what I understand, or, or Kugler,
15:32yeah, or Kugler, are one of those guys going to be responsible for the development of the
15:39younger guys, maybe who aren't in the top seven or eight practice squad guys.
15:44And it also leads me to question, is this an indication that the Patriots might go really
15:49young on the offensive line, that they might go heavy offensive line in the draft instead
15:55of free agency?
15:56I mean, I don't think that's the case, but it definitely leads you to think like, it
16:02seems like they're putting a priority on development of the offensive line, which they should.
16:06And everybody knows I'm in favor of that.
16:10But it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
16:12Well, we can't forget about Mike Rabel's introductory press conference.
16:16One of the first things he talked about was the offensive line and, and, and, you know,
16:20making sure that they've got that figured out, which all of us have been just waiting
16:24years for that to happen.
16:26All right, before we continue, Greg, tell the people about prize picks.
16:31Prize picks is the best place to get real money sports action with over 10 million members
16:36in billions of dollars in awarded winnings.
16:38Prize picks has made daily fantasy sports accessible to all.
16:41You just pick more or less on at least two players for a shot to win up to a thousand
16:45times your cash.
16:46Run your game all season long on prize picks.
16:49I'll be sitting down with the big game this weekend with my picks.
16:54I made my picks, I'll give them to you in a second.
16:57But it's playoff time.
16:58It's now or never.
16:59Don't miss out on the last few weeks of football action with prize picks, the best place to
17:03win cash while watching the playoffs.
17:05Prize picks now offers MasterCard for quick and easy deposits into your account this sports
17:10season.
17:11Which players are going off?
17:12Which ones aren't?
17:13You can deposit your picks in 60 seconds or less and turn your sports opinions into real
17:18money all season long on prize picks.
17:20So with the Super Bowl, they're offering a special, I've talked about it before, these
17:24free squares.
17:26So as long as Patrick Mahomes has more than a half a passing yard, check.
17:32So you're already on your way to winning money.
17:35So for my picks, I have Patrick Mahomes, obviously, more than a half passing yard.
17:41I have Saquon Barkley, more than a half rushing and receiving touchdown.
17:46I have Juju Smith Schuster.
17:49Yes.
17:50Juju Sinew, more than 17 and a half receiving yards.
17:56I think that the, I think that the chiefs are going to have to pass in this game.
17:59I think Juju will get, you know, what are, what was that?
18:02The bills game when he exploded for a couple of catches, um, AJ Brown, less than 70 and
18:08a half receiving yards.
18:10I, I just don't, I don't think he's going to have a big day.
18:14I assume it's going to be Trent McDuffie and Spags with his pressure.
18:18We'll see.
18:20Chris Jones, more than a quarter sack.
18:23He's definitely getting that.
18:24So you should bank on that.
18:26And Noah Gray, Chiefs tight end.
18:29I think he's going to have a sneaky big game in this.
18:32I have them for more than two receiving targets.

18:48Noah Gray and Juju Smith Schuster.
18:51Look at these with these deep pulls.
18:53Uh, all right.
18:54Couple more things about the coaching staff before we move forward.
18:57Duran Mayo stays.
18:59Uh, I text you this yesterday.
19:01I said, I said Gerard's brother is still on the staff.
19:04Uh, I was surprised.
19:06Were you?
19:07Yeah.
19:08Um, I'm extremely surprised.
19:11I, it's not something I would have done.
19:15I think they need a, uh, clean break from all things Mayo.
19:20I mean, you're just inviting, I mean, it's a little bit disappointing to me because this
19:23is more of the bullcrap that's gone on the past couple of years.
19:26I mean, you know, whether it's Gerard Mayo's succession contract or keeping Brian Belichick
19:33on staff, um, look, I, I have respect for all those guys and I'm sure they, um, certainly
19:42in the case of Brian, I'm sure he was like, uh, a professional and everything.
19:46We know that Gerard had his share of issues, uh, his final season as an assistant coach,
19:52uh, with that succession contract and like, I don't know, there just seems to be some
19:57drama feels like there's some drama underneath between Gerard and the Patriots.
20:02And now you have, now you have drawn in there and you know, those strength coaches are,
20:08are among the closest to the players.
20:12And I don't know, I just would have done a clean break.
20:15I mean, at least Frank Perino is there as sort of the director and if things don't go
20:20well, uh, you know, he, he could deal with it and nip it in the bud, but, um, I mean,
20:28I guess it would sort of throw cold water on, you know, all the, the various internet
20:34rumors that are out there about Mayo and the crafts and his contract and things like that.
20:41But it also leads you to think, okay, was this part of some sort of deal that, you know,
20:49that maybe Gerard is like, I'll go quietly into the dark, but you know, you gotta keep
20:53my brother or something like that.
20:55I mean, it's just that when you, when you retain a, uh, a presence like that, these
21:01are the type of questions that get asked.
21:03Well, a little, uh, quid pro quo action.
21:06The other thing that stood out to me, I'm not a fan of this is that there's no assistant
21:10wide receivers coach.
21:11A lot of teams have assistant wide receivers coaches.
21:14Uh, last year, Patriots had Taekwon Underwood.
21:17He is now in Dallas as the assistant wide receivers coach.
21:21This is all on Todd Downing.
21:22I was hoping we would see a former receiver, Greg, uh, that could work underneath Downing
21:28with the guys, uh, on a day-to-day basis about some of the minutia of being a receiver, but
21:33no assistant wide receivers coach.
21:34That's disappointing to me.
21:36Yeah.
21:37Um, I don't disagree with that.
21:39I mean, I do think that, I think that McDaniels will be involved a lot.
21:44Um, that's something he's done in the past.
21:48Um, you know, but who knows, you know, you know, we might see.
21:53Another addition at some point, I guess it's, it could be, but I know that from talking
21:58to people who know him, like Todd Downing's a damn good coach and yes, he doesn't have
22:03a background in tight ends, uh, in receivers.
22:07It's more tight ends and quarterbacks and things like that.
22:10But you know, when you've been an offensive coordinator and a QB coach and the tight ends
22:13coach, um, you know, you, you know what you're doing, you know, the entirety of the offense.
22:20And, um, I'm just glad that that room, you know, from where we were a year ago, uh, with
22:26the guy, uh, I, I can picture him, um, Oh, Tyler Hughes.
22:31Yeah.
22:32Tyler Hughes, who hadn't coached that position since Juco.
22:36I mean, you know, you're talking about a, uh, a very experienced NFL coach and you know,
22:42with McDaniels there to help if needed, I think there'll be okay at the end of the day
22:46and it'll be an improvement over last year.
22:48Certainly.
22:49All right.
22:50Before we get to some of the trade talk that's out there, um, I want Greg to tell you about
22:55game time.
22:56Cause they're so good at what they do.
22:59You got to get to a game to experience it.
23:01Yeah.
23:02We will.
23:03We all watch the games on TV and it's great and it's cost effective and stuff like that.
23:07But at your heart, you're, you're, you're a sports fan and to really get the full experience
23:12you have to go.
23:13And a great place to do that is through game time.
23:16I go there game time, picks, filters out all the fluff to show you only incredible deals
23:20on great seats.
23:21So you don't have to waste time searching through thousands of tickets.
23:24I love the all in pricing toggling.

23:31They have seat views where you can get a panoramic view from your seat and the app before you
23:35buy, which is a must for me.
23:37Uh, I, I told you guys last podcast that the beanpot championship, which includes both
23:43games, the constellation and the final, because I'm looking to go, uh, at the time you could
23:50get in for 60 bucks.
23:51That is not the case anymore, but they still have great deals over there.
23:55You should go check it out.
23:56BU versus BC, BC is kind of a wagon, but you know, the rivalry, you got to be there.
24:02There's nothing like the beanpot.
24:03I think I'm definitely going to be there.

24:16What time is it?
24:17Game time.
24:18Miles Garrett wants out.
24:20He went public.
24:22If you were the Patriots and, and look, we all understand that Miles Garrett wants to
24:27play for a contender.
24:29And if he had it his way, new England would, would not be on the radar, but from the Patriots
24:34point of view, Greg, would you be placing a phone call to Cleveland?
24:38Would you be pursuing Miles Garrett?
24:40Well, I certainly would call on anybody and, um, you need to do your due due diligence
24:47to see what the market is.
24:48Um, I mean, I guess I would think about it.
24:51A lot of it would be the, the ask and you're talking to first round picks.
24:57Um, I would definitely not send number four for Miles Garrett.
25:01I mean, you have the opportunity and look, Miles Garrett is awesome.
25:07And he's, he's one of these players that like, there's just not many of them who walked the
25:13planet.
25:14Um, but that being said, the Patriots right now aren't in a position for, to me to, to
25:21go get a Miles Garrett.
25:22I mean, hopefully there'll be there a year from now, two years from now, when you're
25:26sort of looking for the icing on top.
25:30Um, you know, I think this team needs to be more about, uh, investing in younger players.
25:36I mean, you know, whether it's Abdul Carter or Mason Graham, like, you know, you're talking
25:42about a guy that you can draft, have control over, um, you know, build them up in your
25:48scheme, teach them up.
25:50Um, Miles is great, but to me, that's not the type of guy, not right now.
25:57I think they should be going after, I'd be in on it.
26:00I'd be in on it.
26:00And I talked about this on my podcast yesterday.
26:02If you want to check it out, Nick cattle's Nick cattle show on YouTube.
26:06I would deal the fourth pick for Miles Garrett, and it's a very difficult decision to make.
26:12And I totally understand what you just mentioned, Greg.
26:14And I think it's a debatable topic.
26:16And I understand the thought process of like, no, I would not give up number four, but I
26:20think Miles Garrett, he's 29 years old.
26:23I think he still has at least three to four years left of, you know, top tier play.
26:27He's a generational guy.
26:28We throw that term around a lot, but he is legitimately generational.
26:32I think if he was playing for another team, a lot of people would understand how awesome
26:36Miles Garrett is.
26:38And it's an edge.
26:40It's somebody that you absolutely need.
26:42It's a position of need.
26:44And, you know, I think if you bring him in, I get the Abdul Carter part, but Abdul
26:49Carter prays to be Miles Garrett one day.
26:52And I don't know, I don't know if he'll ever even touch that level of play.
26:57We don't know.
26:57So if I could get a guaranteed stud again, like what's Miles Garrett's one of the top
27:03three or four defensive players in all of football.
27:06And so if, if I can get that guy for, let's say the fourth pick and, you know, maybe
27:11like a pick swap in the mid rounds of this year's draft, I would do it.
27:15I would not go two ones.
27:17I would not go with, you know, a one and a two this year.
27:20I wouldn't extend that far.
27:21I'd say you're getting the fourth pick.
27:23If you're Cleveland, you now have two of the top four picks in the draft.
27:26That should be good enough for you.
27:28Um, so I would draw the line, but I just think that Garrett, he's a game changer.
27:34He could change your entire defense.
27:35And if you went into next year with Garrett on the edge, bar more fingers
27:40crossed back in the middle and Gonzalez as cornerback one, you've got three
27:45legitimate, you know, blue chip kind of talents defensively.
27:50And yeah, it year one, it might not be great in 2025.
27:53You might win seven games, but he's like, he's going to be 30 in year two in 2026.
27:59So a 30 year old Miles Garrett with a team that, you know, after two off
28:03seasons should be talking playoffs.
28:05It's a tough decision, but I would do it.
28:07How about Cooper cup?
28:08Because, uh, the Rams are going to trade Cooper cup, or at least
28:11they want to trade Cooper cup.
28:13Uh, what would be your limit for Cooper?
28:16Oh, that's a good question.
28:17Um, you know, some, well, it depends on how much, if any money the Rams eat,
28:22which they've done in the past, um, that will change the compensation.
28:28Uh, maybe a future three, maybe, but I, you know, I will say I've
28:35changed my mind on Cooper cup at first.
28:37Like I'm not, I'm not interested in the Patriots, like getting older,
28:43bringing down, you know, broken, broken down players.
28:47Like they need to, they need to do this thing the right way.
28:49And like, I want them to do it.
28:51Like the commanders have done it, which is like a, basically a bunch of like
28:56mid-level free agents that the coaching staff and front office know have some
29:01background with and, you know, nail the draft.
29:04That's what I want the Patriots to do.
29:07Um, that being said in like Cooper cup, you know, he's a bit expensive.
29:11You can say anything you want about the guaranteed money or like, he's
29:14got a roster bonus in March, you know, but the bottom line is, you know, right
29:19now, you know, he's set to make like, I don't know, like 17, $18 million next
29:24year, um, which is really rich.
29:27They're going to have to, if they do it, they're going to have to redo the
29:29contract.
29:30Um, but so I was sort of against it.
29:33Like, I don't want to, I don't want an older guy.
29:35I don't want an older, expensive guy.
29:37Um, you know, I'd rather go a different route and especially, you know, with,
29:42you know, T Higgins or whoever available in free agency, like I'd rather go that
29:46route.
29:47However, I've changed my mind because I heard Andrew Whitworth on with, uh, Zolak
29:53and Bertrand, uh, today from radio row and how Andrew Whitworth talked about
30:00Cooper cup, about how smart he is, about how he's going to be a, he's going to be
30:04a coach about how, you know, he, he had, he, he, he thinks of the game in a
30:10different way and would, you know, basically like suggest things in terms
30:15of like, you know, how to change blocking assignments and, you know, certainly
30:19routes and how he basically, you know, it's, he, he runs the receiver's room.
30:25He's the one that, you know, taught Puka Nakua, like everything that he knows
30:32about that offense and how he's become so good so quickly.
30:35Like when I heard all that stuff, I was like, how did the Patriots not bring
30:40in a guy like that with what's going on in that room right now, or what has gone
30:45on and also the value that he could bring to Drake may, and also I think the value
30:51that he would bring to Josh McDaniels, like he'd be a guy that, you know, he
30:54could talk about with X's and O's and adjustments during the game.
30:58Like, I just think the value, even if he got hurt, even he'd still be around.
31:04Uh, I just think the value that he would bring to the room to Drake may, I think
31:10it makes it worth everything for a couple of years and on cup, I would be in on
31:16Cooper cup.
31:16I wouldn't give up more than a fourth round pick for him.
31:19I think that's fair value because of the contract, because he's going to be 32 in
31:23June because he's missed a lot of games.
31:25I mean, if you acquire him, you know, he's going to play probably 10 to 12
31:29games and that's it, but he's your best receiver when he walks into that wide
31:33receiver room day one, he's better than anybody they have right now on this
31:36roster, I don't think it's necessarily close, even at, you know, the advanced
31:41age, quote unquote, I think he helps the room vet leadership.
31:45Uh, I think he could still be productive.
31:47Is he going to be a guy who catches six, seven balls a week?
31:50No, but I'll tell you, Greg, what I would do is the first thing I would do.
31:54As soon as I saw this story pop up, as soon as I saw, uh, Cooper's social media
32:00post, if I'm Mike Vrabel, if I'm Josh McDaniels, Hey, Thomas, Thomas, come
32:06here for a minute, I call Thomas Brown in and I'd say, tell me everything you
32:11know about Cooper cup because Thomas Brown was there when Cooper cup was at his
32:15best and you know, Brown didn't work with receivers.
32:19He was tight ends, coach running backs, coach assistant head coach, but he
32:22certainly has info and Intel on Cooper cup.
32:25So I would bring Brown in and say, what are we getting with this guy?
32:29And I think because Brown is your passing game coordinator and he
32:33has the history with Cooper cup.
32:35I think that's another reason why you would bring them in.
32:37Because I would imagine that Brown has ideas how to best
32:40utilize him even at 32 years old.
32:43So I would pull the trigger.
32:44I think you could rework the deal.
32:46You have all the leverage.
32:48I think you could get, you know, a two year deal out of Cooper,
32:51not pay him a ton of money.
32:53Uh, you know, I saw Spodrack's valuation has it like two years, 22 million.
32:58I think you could talk to Cooper and say, look, we're going to extend you.
33:01We'll give you a two year extension.
33:03Uh, you know, we'll give you two years and 24 million.
33:06We'll, we'll give you some of that upfront with a roster bonus or whatever
33:08we've got to do a signing bonus.
33:10And I think he's the perfect, you're not bringing them in.
33:13You're not going to bring them in.
33:14This isn't a miles Garrett situation.
33:16Okay.
33:17You would not be bringing Cooper cup in to be the number one receiver.
33:20But if he's your, if he's your third guy, if he's like a two B slash three,
33:25depending on what else you do, I'm in on it.
33:27All right.
33:28Before we get to the super bowl, Greg, one more thing.
33:31Sure.
33:32Sort of while we're talking about players and possible available players.
33:35Um, cause I was looking at this earlier, you know, and I know you're
33:38a big fan of this potential move.
33:40So I was looking at like what Eric Dacosta said about Ronnie Stanley.
33:44And maybe you've already been over this on your own podcast
33:46because you're a nut like that.
33:47And probably, you know, reading all this crap.
33:49Um, but, you know, I was looking at, you know, cause they have a couple of guys.
33:55So they have Stanley, they have McCurry, the more interior guy.
33:58He's, you know, he's versatile.
34:00He can play a bunch of different spots, but you know, Eric Dacosta was asked
34:04about those two guys in his end of season press conference and, um, you
34:10know, looking at his comments, like, first of all, he didn't call
34:12either of them by their names.
34:14Um, he didn't say anything close to, uh, you know, Ronnie's not going anywhere.
34:22He's, you know, he's a building block.
34:23Like, you know, he, he actually more talked up about how, uh, they have good
34:29young offensive linemen that offensive linemen get better as they get stronger.
34:35And I don't know, cause apparently one of the options is they take
34:40Rosengarten from right tackle where he played well this year.
34:43And this is one of the guys we talked about in the past that the Patriots
34:45should have been interested in drafting and, you know, playing him on the left
34:51side, I, and plus we all know about how the Ravens are obsessed with comp picks.
34:59And yeah, and all that stuff.
35:01And so I reading the tea leaves, I think Ronnie Stanley might get to
35:06market, which, uh, would blow me away.
35:08Look, he's had some durability problems.
35:10You're going to have to go over all that stuff.
35:12I don't think they have anybody on staff that, uh, has come from the Ravens.
35:18I don't think, um, you know, which that sort of limits it, but, uh, I just
35:24found it interesting that, you know, reading the comments, I would not be
35:27surprised if Ronnie Stanley's on the market, which, you know, would probably
35:31make him one of the top priorities from the Patriots, you have to think.
35:35Yeah.
35:35And, and to cost a look at, he did a great interview, Greg, if you
35:38get the time, it's 30 minutes.
35:40Uh, I've got to pump the tires a little bit of Todd McShay McShay show.
35:44He has two interviews coming up.
35:46So he he's got one with Nick Casario coming up soon, but he did one
35:50with Eric Dacosta at the senior bowl.
35:52And it's just the role of a GM and what they do.
35:55And just, it's a fantastic interview with Dacosta.
35:58It's about 30 minutes long.
35:59It just came out a few days ago.
36:01I watched it yesterday.
36:02It's fantastic stuff.
36:04And, you know, I was watching the pod and I was just thinking about like what
36:09Dacosta was saying and relating it to the Patriots.
36:12And it's just fascinating.
36:13You know, he, one of the things he mentions, he's like, look, we have not
36:17been able to find an X receiver, that big bodied guy on the outside.
36:21And he talked about, you know, those guys don't grow on trees.
36:24A lot of teams are having trouble with that.
36:26So when we look at the Patriots, not getting an X, it's not unique,
36:31you know, around the league, it's, it's a difficult guy to find.
36:33He also talked about offensive line play.
36:36Um, he talked about analytics and he mentioned that they talked to a lot of
36:40people from the Orioles organization and how they've beefed up their
36:43analytics the past few years.
36:45And I found that interesting because of course we found out that the
36:48Patriots hired one of the top analysts at the Red Sox back in December
36:53and brought him into the fold.
36:55And that, that made me think that what you had talked about a couple of
36:59months ago about the crafts calling around the league and figuring out how
37:03they can kind of beef up things around Drake may and make the operation better.
37:07Of course, the cost is a local guy.
37:09I wonder if the cost was one of those phone calls.
37:11And, you know, you also look at, you know, what Cleveland has done.
37:14They, they brought Paul DiBattista from the guardians over to their operation.
37:19So I would suggest watching that 30 minute interview with DaCosta.
37:24Uh, I thought it was fantastic stuff.
37:27And I think if, if you watch it, if you're a Patriots fan and you watch
37:31and you watch it through the lens of the Patriots, you know, one of the things
37:35that stood with me before we get to the super bowl, and I was thinking about
37:39what you and I discussed regarding Elliot Wolf and how he was pretty much
37:42holding Gerard Mayo's hand last year.
37:45And people would say, Nick, why are you so hard on Gerard Mayo
37:48and not as hard on Elliot?
37:49Well, I think Elliot will fail.
37:52I've said that multiple times, but here's the difference.
37:56Gerard Mayo has the chance every single week to improve Wolf.
38:03Doesn't when the, when the season starts, the season starts, baby,
38:06your roster is your roster.
38:07You can try to make trades.
38:08You can go to practice squads, but there's very little that you can do.
38:12So if Elliot Wolf is sitting there going, damn it, I got it wrong on this guy.
38:16He can't do much.
38:18He can't do much about it.
38:20And, um, especially a left tackle and DaCosta.
38:24So DaCosta said, which drives me crazy still to this day, people continue.
38:30People continue to act as if the offensive line we saw out there was the
38:34offensive line that was the plan from day one, when we know, we know it wasn't.
38:38And I'm not telling you that the plan from day one would work, but people it's
38:41disingenuous to be like, that's the offensive line they threw out there.
38:45Well, not really after like three or four injuries and a guy quit.
38:49Yeah.
38:49That then that happened, but anyway, DaCosta said one thing during that
38:53podcast and he was talking about being a GM and how Mondays you could talk to
38:59anybody that knows them and people will tell you across the board, he's an a-hole
39:03on Mondays and it's because as he put it, once the season starts, he's a hostage
39:10to like the roster that he knows there's nothing that he can do relatively speaking.
39:15So watching it during the season drives him crazy.
39:18And I thought about the front office last year and all the stuff that they
39:22couldn't do, and I'm sure they must've been looking at this team going, my
39:27God, what, what, what the bleep.
39:30But they, like DaCosta said, you can't do much about it during the season.
39:33So, uh, I would, I would suggest that that podcast's fantastic
39:39stuff with McShea and DaCosta.
39:40All right.
39:41Uh, you know, what else is fantastic?
39:42Greg, no turno.
39:44As someone who spent years covering football, I know what
39:46it takes to be a winning team.
39:47It's about reliability, precision, and showing up when it matters most.
39:51When it came to my own home and my heating system, I needed a team I could
39:54count on and the turno home services delivered the turno is local.
39:58They are family owned and family focused and have been servicing the
40:01greater Boston area for 15 years.
40:03From start to finish, they made the process of upgrading my heating
40:07system, seamless and stress-free.
40:10And they go above and beyond.
40:13Told you the story.
40:15My valve failed four days before they were supposed to put in my new
40:19unit, 53 degrees upstairs where the kids were sleeping and the turno diagnosed
40:25it, said, sure, we'll take a look.
40:27Diagnosed, found out I needed a new valve.
40:30Guess what?
40:30They put one in for free just to get me to installation day.
40:34That's the type of service they provide.
40:37The turno isn't just about heating.
40:38They're my go-to for plumbing, cooling, and even water and air quality solutions.
40:42They've got the expertise to handle whatever your home needs.

41:10I trust the turno and you will too.
41:15All right.
41:15No turno does great work.
41:17Uh, I was a little bit, um, distracted there because the Cleveland
41:21Cavaliers just traded for DeAndre Hunter, which is a good pickup for them.
41:25So if you're a Celtics fan, uh, the Cavs just got better and tougher.
41:31All right.
41:31So let's get to the, uh, Superbowl, Greg, Philadelphia tweeted.
41:34Look at you.
41:36I was tweeting while you're doing the reads, you know, and I know that they
41:39don't even show my face during these reads.
41:41So I'm like, ah, I could, I could, I could steal a little bit
41:43of a tweet here for five seconds.
41:45All right.
41:45So, uh, Philadelphia, let's start here.
41:48Philadelphia offense versus the Kansas city defense.
41:50What interests you about that matchup?
41:53So, uh, I think it would be, I'm interested, look, I'm interested
41:59to see how Jalen hurts place.
42:00I mean, I thought he played fantastic in the Superbowl two years ago.
42:03I thought he played great against the, uh, the, the commanders last time out.
42:08I am not a Jalen hurts guy.
42:09There's been way too many games where I think he stunk
42:12and he hangs onto the ball.
42:14But for some reason, I don't know why, but in these big games, he showed well,
42:18uh, to me, it's going to be interesting.
42:20How do the, can Hertz run the ball?
42:24Is he healthy?
42:25Is, you know, do they have the six back offense going, you know, with
42:29Hertz and Saquon Barkley, how do the chiefs defend that?
42:32I think Leo Chanel has a chance to be, uh, you know, sort of a X factor.
42:38Um, you know, how, when does Spags bank bring pressure?
42:42How do they cover, how can they get Jalen hurts to, instead of like, he
42:47just throws outside the numbers.
42:48Can they get them in the middle of the field?
42:50Obviously Spags loves to man up.
42:53I wonder if they throw a curve ball in this game and they play a little bit
42:56more zone and because Hertz is not good at throwing with anticipation,
43:01throwing in the windows, man makes it a little bit easier.
43:05So I wonder if they, if they Spags goes against what he, what he normally does
43:10with two weeks for prepare and goes more zone, um, you know, but look, they're
43:16good, it's, they're going to have to stop.
43:18They're going to have to stop the running game and they're going
43:21to have to make Hertz beat them.
43:24Interesting that you bring up, uh, the zone and blitzing and, and how
43:30Spags will approach this game.
43:33Kansas city, uh, when they, when they zone blitz, they are incredibly
43:38effective when they, when they zone blitz, their number one in the NFL,
43:42Greg in pressure rate, 51% of the time when they blitz with the zone, look,
43:48they get pressure on the quarterback.
43:49Uh, the second best team in the NFL in yards, uh, per attempt
43:53allowed when they blitz zone and Jalen hurts versus zone blitzes.
44:00This goes into exactly what Greg just mentioned.
44:03Jalen hurts has the worst SAC rate in the entire NFL against zone blitzing.
44:08He's taken 10 sacks.
44:10So, uh, that really backs up what you just said, Greg.
44:14The other part of it, of course, is the Philadelphia run game.
44:17Uh, you know, they're, they're number one in the league in time of possession.
44:20They're number one in the league and run rate.
44:22They want to run the football, super conservative offensively.
44:26When you look at the past game, especially since they're, they're
44:29bi-week back in week five.
44:31Um, so will they be able to run the ball there?
44:34They've got the fourth best run offense in DVO, a Kansas city though.
44:38Here's a little nugget from Dan Orlowski this week.
44:41The chiefs have not allowed a 100 yard rusher over their past 18
44:45playoff games that goes back to 2019.
44:49Uh, so 18 straight games, they have not given up a 100 yard rusher.
44:53So let me add to that because I just saw this Spags has allowed a 100 yard
44:59rusher exactly once in his playoff game, a playoff career, 24 games.
45:03That would be Marion Barber, 149 yards in the 2007 divisional game.
45:09Wow.
45:09Marion Barber.
45:11He was a fantasy stud for a couple of years.
45:13Yeah.
45:13Uh, before we get to the, uh, no, let's get to it now.
45:16Philadelphia's defense versus Kansas city's offense.
45:20Uh, so I'm fascinated about what the chiefs do on their offensive line.
45:24How do they match up with, you know, uh, Jalen Carter and Jordan
45:28Davis, who, you know, he only played 13 snaps in the last game, but he was
45:32damn good and damn effective in those 13 snaps, uh, they have a good, you
45:36know, little sub rusher that comes in as well, you know, are they going to
45:40put, are they going to put Tooney at left tackle again, um, you know, or,
45:45you know, do they go a different route that they slide Tooney inside and go
45:50with, who is the guy that they signed?
45:52They brought in who hasn't been healthy yet.
45:53Um, DJ Humphries.
45:55Yes.
45:56DJ Humphries.
45:57Is he finally ready?
45:58Can he play?
45:59Do you do that in the Superbowl?
46:01Um, you know, what's interesting to me is, you know, I, I have a great deal
46:05of respect for both Fangio and Spags, you know, Fangio sort of his, his claim
46:11to fame and sort of what he relies on.
46:13It's not all that different than bill Belichick.
46:15They just do it in different ways.
46:17It's no big plays.
46:19Yep.
46:20Make the, make the other offense drive 12, 15 plays to, to score a touchdown,
46:25play really good red zone, uh, defense.
46:29The thing is, is that going to work against the chiefs?
46:31They don't, they don't get any explosive place.
46:34All they do is go 12, 15 plays to go down the field.
46:37I mean, that's what they do.
46:39So, um, yeah, that's, it's, it's, it's a fascinating matchup.
46:44I mean, I, I, I just think that, you know, between overall, I mean, between
46:50my homes is the better quarterback.
46:51Andy Reed is a better offensive play color.
46:53I like Spags a little bit more than Fangio.
46:57Uh, but you know, there's going to be a whole push and pull
47:00Fangio loves to play nickel.
47:02The chiefs have the ability to go multiple tight ends.
47:04Part of the reason why I picked Noah gray and prize picks, um, you know, can
47:10they get, can, can they block the interior well enough and run the ball well enough?
47:15That's a big key for me.
47:17The chiefs have to be able to run the ball.
47:18They can't go one dimensional in this game.
47:20I mean, they can and still win.
47:22It wouldn't be my preferred route.
47:23But can they get the Eagles out of their preferred nickel, get
47:26Cooper, the gene off the field.
47:28Get them to go more base to defend the run doubtful.
47:32But you know, my homes is my homes.
47:36It's like you and I discussed this before we recorded the pod, which we didn't,
47:40you mentioned, uh, Kansas city and the fact that they, you know, they, they
47:45have this long drive mentality of, you know, we don't need huge explosive
47:51plays.
47:51We'll just kind of dink and dunk you to death.
47:53And that's what Vic Fangio forces you to do.
47:55And Brady did a great job of discussing that, uh, during the NFC championship
48:00game, he mentioned it a number of times, like Fangio's, he makes you earn every
48:05yard, Kansas city this year, number one in the NFL in drives of 10 or more
48:09plays, they have 45 drives of 10 plays or more that's again, number one in the NFL.
48:18So Fangio forces you to be methodical.
48:21Kansas city has majored in being methodical this year.
48:24Offensively.
48:26I would also tell you this Vic Fangio against Patrick Mahomes in his career,
48:33zero wins, eight losses.
48:36He lost six times with Denver.
48:38He lost twice with Miami.
48:40He has yet to beat Patrick Mahomes.
48:43So you want to keep that kind of in the back of your mind.
48:46All right.
48:47Don't forget to check out Greg.
48:48We'll have our prediction in a minute.
48:50Don't forget to check out Greg and Giardi 50 bucks a year at BSJ.
48:54Also check out our friends at prize picks, download that app code CLNS
48:5950 bucks instantly when you play $5.
49:02And we've got more friends as well at game time.
49:05If you're wanting to take the guesswork out of buying tickets,
49:08check those guys out and gals out.
49:09CLNS again, is the code 20 bucks off your first purchase chiefs
49:13minus one and a half over under 48 and a half.
49:15What are you doing?
49:17I can't pick against the chiefs.
49:19I mean, I do think that I think it's going to be a really, really good game.
49:23The Eagles definitely have a chance to win this game.
49:25And if they win and, you know, rather comfortably,
49:28I wouldn't be all that surprised.
49:30I mean, just because, uh, you know, I, I think that if the chiefs end up losing,
49:36it's because they can't run the ball and they can't defend the run.
49:40Um, that would surprise me, but it's certainly there.
49:44I mean, the Eagle seemed to, you know, between, uh,
49:48Landon Dickerson and Juergens, it seems that they've gotten a little
49:51bit healthier on the offensive line.
49:53They've had the two weeks off.
49:54I think Hertz is probably a little bit more healthy.
49:58Um, you know, but the chiefs in the spot, I just can't pick against them.
50:03I think they had the better quarterback.
50:05They had the better play caller, offensive play caller, and they
50:08had the better defensive coordinator.
50:10And they also had the better special teams guy and Dave tube.
50:12So I just can't, I just can't pick against that.
50:16I'm going chiefs, 27, 24.
50:21Did we pick it?
50:22Did I get the exact, uh,
50:25almost, almost, uh, I hate to do it.
50:30I want Philly to win, but I'm picking Kansas city.
50:34Um,
50:35the little reverse jinx there.
50:37I'm going to maybe, maybe the magic works.
50:40I'm going Casey minus the one and a half.
50:42My final score that I have down is actually 27, 23.
50:46So we're off one point.
50:47I got 27, 23.
50:48So both of us say go with the chiefs and go with the over.
50:52All right.
50:52We'll be back early next week.
50:54Talk more Patriots until then everybody be well.
