00:00:00Welcome into a crossover episode, Patriots Daily Patriots beat here with you, Alex Barth
00:00:08and Brian Hines from Patriots beat Mike Catholic, Taylor cows from Patriots Daily taking some
00:00:12time out here on the bi-week to kind of touch base and see where things are at with the
00:00:172024 Patriots.
00:00:18Usually with bi-week use, this is, you know, kind of a middle point assess where things
00:00:22are, where things are going with only four games to go on the team at three and 10.
00:00:26It's tough to do that.
00:00:27We actually did a show like that.
00:00:28I think that was our last crossover, so you can go back and check that out.
00:00:31We're going to kind of use this as a very early precursor to the off season.
00:00:36Um, mainly we'll, we'll touch on some things over the last four games and some other big
00:00:40news around the team.
00:00:41And we'll start there guys, uh, as we get going here that we did actually get news today.
00:00:46First day of the bi-week.
00:00:47The Patriots are building a new football exclusive training facility behind Gillette stadium.
00:00:52It's going to be adjacent to the current practice field.
00:00:54It's going to have things like, uh, weight rooms, training rooms, player lounge, uh,
00:00:59what else was in there as a specialized draft room, like the football offices and stuff
00:01:04will be down there.
00:01:05Meeting rooms, things like that, VR room.
00:01:08Yeah.
00:01:09This, this comes in the wake of last year's NFL PA survey where players are asked basically
00:01:15what their experience is like with each club and the Patriots graded out as the 29th team
00:01:20out of 32 in the NFL.
00:01:21Now, some of that goes beyond the facility itself, but they got an F for their weight
00:01:27room, weight room, uh, their cafeteria grade was pretty low.
00:01:31Their locker room grade was pretty low.
00:01:33So clearly some upgrades that needed to be made.
00:01:36We don't have a ton of details on this building outside of what's in there.
00:01:40The current timeline is for it to be done in the spring of 2026.
00:01:43So you look at training camp for not next season, but the season after is kind of the
00:01:48big debut.
00:01:49But, uh, we'll start Taylor, since you won last time, if people are unfamiliar, those,
00:01:53those zeros on the bottom, we started doing points like around the horn or a pardon, that's
00:01:57it.
00:01:58Pardon my take around the horn, around the horn on here last time.
00:02:00So Taylor's is you, which is getting canceled by the way.
00:02:04No more.
00:02:05Yeah, that's right.
00:02:06So clearly this works.
00:02:07Clearly this is good.
00:02:08Uh, right.
00:02:09Taylor's.
00:02:10We'll start with you, your thoughts on, on the news today in the new facility.
00:02:13I'm excited to see it.
00:02:14Like we've seen the construction and it's been like, all right, so what exactly is going
00:02:17on over there?
00:02:18Uh, and obviously this was very much needed.
00:02:20This was the second year in a row that they've kind of just bombed in their report cards.
00:02:24And we knew there was that plan that Matt Patricia had to, you know, build this all
00:02:28up and that kind of got scrapped when he left.
00:02:31So it's cool to see they're actually picking up on it, um, that they're doing something
00:02:34for the players to try to make them more comfortable.
00:02:36Um, especially like in this day and age, you can't just shove guys and you know, some drabby
00:02:41locker room and expect them to be happy.
00:02:43Like when you're going on free agent visits and you're seeing what like the dolphins have
00:02:46and all these crazy tricked out facilities and you're going in a place that's, you know,
00:02:50not seen a whole lot of renovation over the past 20 years.
00:02:52Yeah.
00:02:53That's going to affect your perception of the team, especially if you're trying to attract
00:02:56free agents.
00:02:57So yeah, I think it, uh, it was much, much needed Mike.
00:03:00Yeah.
00:03:01Uh, I love it.
00:03:02I think, uh, Taylor, you mentioned sort of the, the outdatedness of their current facility
00:03:07and what they have in the current stadium.
00:03:09And this just, you know, completely trounces that like they're, you know, just like we're
00:03:12kind of shuffled around to the media work room and to the practice field, to the game
00:03:17field, right?
00:03:18Like the Patriots team has to do that as well.
00:03:20They're walking through the facility, constantly going inside, going outside.
00:03:24They mentioned in the release that the weight room just opens right up to the field.
00:03:27It's like one of these new, uh, brand new college facilities where everything is just
00:03:31in the same place.
00:03:32And so, uh, I think that's massive and that's like a little thing that, like you mentioned,
00:03:35you can show free agents when I tweeted about it earlier, Alex, your, uh, your coworkers
00:03:40thrown battle kind of mentioned that and how, uh, this adds to the, uh, the pitch for
00:03:45upcoming free agents when they need to start to rebuild this team next off season.
00:03:48Now, uh, like you said, it's not coming until 2026.
00:03:52So a little bit of a waiting period here, but I think ultimately that can help them
00:03:55sort of pitch these guys like, look, money's money and they're going to have to spend and
00:03:59overspend because of where they're at.
00:04:01Um, you know, as a team and their success over the last couple of years, but this certainly
00:04:05helps the cause.
00:04:06And, uh, you know, when you get an F for a weight room and you can show them, look,
00:04:10this is where we were, and this is what we're going to start to build right now.
00:04:13I think it's massive.
00:04:14So it definitely helps their cause.
00:04:15Um, as far as their, I guess their ranking in the, um, the player likeability, uh, for
00:04:19the team.
00:04:20Brian.
00:04:21And it's a different area where the money, like this, isn't going to stop them from signing
00:04:26free agents.
00:04:27We saw a lot of those comments maybe on Twitter.
00:04:29So they'll still have money to spend on free agents, not just cause they're building this
00:04:33new shiny, uh, facility that, as you said, hopefully free agents will like and be attracted
00:04:38to.
00:04:39But yeah, they, they needed something like this with the report card grades.
00:04:42And really it feels like pretty much every team has one of these nowadays, right?
00:04:46Like we heard, saw bill drooling over the one in Vegas a couple of years ago, right?
00:04:50Like football facilities, uh, out there.
00:04:54So it's probably about time they have one and all the features, everything that's included.
00:04:59It sounds like it's going to be really nice and up to date and stuff like that.
00:05:02Yeah.
00:05:03Just something you touched on there, Brian.
00:05:04For me, I've seen people say, well, why, why won't they just spend money on the roster?
00:05:08This is different than the lighthouse say, right?
00:05:12That was a cosmetic upgrade.
00:05:13That was for the stadium.
00:05:14That was to, when I say the lighthouse, I include the scoreboard they put in and some
00:05:18other things they did around that, uh, allow them to host some of these bigger events,
00:05:22army, Navy, the world cup, things like that.
00:05:25You're not selling free agents on the lighthouse.
00:05:28This is something that people brought it, maybe people brought it up at the time that
00:05:35when that survey came out, like this is going to make it that much tougher to sign players
00:05:39where you already have a team that is struggling with, in terms of perception, they aren't
00:05:43making the playoffs.
00:05:44I've been viewed as a good team, a coaching staff that doesn't have a ton of pedigree.
00:05:48They can get there, but that's going to take time.
00:05:50A lot of first time coaches and you have the whole tax to choose its element of it.
00:05:53So they need all the help they can get.
00:05:55This doesn't undo any of that, but I would say this is an investment in the football
00:05:59team.
00:06:00They still need to go out.
00:06:01Like you said, Brian and spend money in free agency, and they still need to be offering
00:06:05top freedoms are going to come for less than top dollar.
00:06:07They still need to be doing that, but all things even right now, this is a tiebreaker
00:06:12you maybe have against other teams or when it comes to resigning players, makes players
00:06:17a little more willing to resign because they know they'll be taken care of here.
00:06:20They have these facilities, they have these things at their expense.
00:06:23The one that stands out to me is it said in the survey last year, the Patriots were
00:06:28the only team in the league where the majority of players said they felt weight room wise,
00:06:34they could do better outside of the building and in the building.
00:06:37And if you remember, was it last year, two years ago when everything was going on with
00:06:40Trent Brown, he posts a Snapchat of him at like a workout world or something like he
00:06:44was right.
00:06:46You can't be having that.
00:06:47That's just a bad look.
00:06:48So something like this, I think definitely helps the team catch up.
00:06:52We'll see ultimately what it looks like.
00:06:54I'm sure we'll get a tour of it.
00:06:55They said done by 2026, so I'm guessing by the end of the 2025 season, you know, around
00:07:00this time next year, it'll just be, uh, what's it called?
00:07:04Uh, uh, cosmetic things going on, but like I've been out, I've been out to that facility
00:07:09in Vegas.
00:07:10That's an unbelievable setup and you know, the one thing that they have that this doesn't
00:07:15just based on reading it, looking at everything that was drawn up, they have a field and a
00:07:20half indoors.
00:07:22It looks like the Patriots indoor practice facility is going to still be the bubble,
00:07:28which is, I think in 80 yard field, 70 or 80 yard field.
00:07:32So I thought maybe they'd build something and put a field inside it, but they also,
00:07:36you know, the old bill Belichick, that's why we practice in this shit, right?
00:07:39I have no problem if they plan on practicing outside more often than not because they probably
00:07:43should be doing that, but this is a good investment.
00:07:45It was a needed investment.
00:07:48It shouldn't stop them from spending money on free agents.
00:07:50If we hear, well, they're trying to pitch the facility.
00:07:52And so the offers are less like, no, that's wrong that they shouldn't be doing that.
00:07:57But this is unlike the lighthouse.
00:07:59This is something I would call an investment in the football team specifically.
00:08:03This is done with the idea of making the football team better.
00:08:06I don't know if you guys have any further thoughts or we can move on here.
00:08:10I just, I just look at it, right.
00:08:12And when you, when you're in that stadium and look at, you know, frankly, the weight
00:08:16room that received an F and the one that you mentioned players don't like compared
00:08:21to what they could do outside.
00:08:22Like it's really, this is, it's going to be a huge improvement.
00:08:25Like you look at these NFL players making millions and millions of dollars and having
00:08:28to take such great care of their bodies.
00:08:30And, you know, you do kind of look around your left stadium and you see where they're
00:08:33coming from.
00:08:34Like, you know, the locker room is nice and, you know, it's upgraded with the led screens
00:08:37above their stalls and whatnot, but like, this is a, a massive difference.
00:08:41And so, um, you just, you, you hope that it ultimately pans out because, uh, you know,
00:08:48it's going to be awesome and it's going to be now state of the art, top of the line facilities
00:08:50for them.
00:08:51Um, but yeah, just, it's going to be a massive difference, especially the way I think it's
00:08:55huge.
00:08:56All right.
00:08:57Let's move on to, uh, I want to touch on these last four games quickly before we start to
00:09:01look ahead.
00:09:02Gerard Mayo was it last week or at the start of this week, talked about some of the younger
00:09:06guys that they want to get a better idea of.
00:09:09So that he, he mentioned Cole strange, uh, you know, some second year guys also talked
00:09:13about the rookies.
00:09:14To me, the big question there is playing time.
00:09:16A lot of these guys, how's Cole strange going to get on the field?
00:09:19Are they going to move Michael when you back out?
00:09:21Are they going to take Lane Robinson out of the lineup, which they're clearly very hesitant
00:09:24to do?
00:09:25Or is it going to be playing center?
00:09:26You know, uh, Kane Wallace has to get healthy.
00:09:28The rookie receivers, they seem kind of beyond playing those guys at this point.
00:09:32So how much, and, and Brian, we'll start with you like reasonably, should they force
00:09:39the young guys on the field?
00:09:42Who do you think is the most important to get on the field?
00:09:44Or is that just something Mayo said that we're going to look back in three or four weeks?
00:09:48And it's one of these things where it's like, why did he say that nothing ever came of it?
00:09:53I mean, I would love to get them like all the young guys out there, but you do have
00:09:57to be careful, especially when a lot of these young guys are on the offensive line, because
00:10:02number one goal still is Drake may like, if you can finish the year out strongly with
00:10:06Drake may and protect him, that that's again, the main priority.
00:10:12So if, if it's late and if you're putting late in Robinson and Caden Wallace and Cole
00:10:17strange who hasn't played football for a year on the offensive line, like that's 60% of
00:10:21your offensive line.
00:10:23Is that just going to be a complete disaster with mental games and, you know, guys working
00:10:27their way back into things.
00:10:28So like Caden Wallace, I would love if he comes back and he's your right tackle for
00:10:34the last month.
00:10:35And you feel really strongly about him going into the off season and be like, okay, maybe
00:10:39we don't need to sign a top of the market free agent, right tackle.
00:10:43Cause we like Caden Wallace, but I do think there has to be some sort of balance there.
00:10:47You know, you look at a guy like Ben Brown, he's maybe started to tick back up in the
00:10:51right direction.
00:10:52So you have to say, okay, let's ride it out with Ben Brown and not force a Cole strange
00:10:56in there.
00:10:57I think like the offensive line, those are the three guys Mayo singled out, but you do
00:11:01have to find some balance where it still has to be playable because you have to protect
00:11:07Drake may over these last four games and you're lucky the last four games, like it's not a
00:11:13gauntlet of a pass rush.
00:11:15So maybe that makes it a little bit easier, but that's the one spot where you do have
00:11:19to be a little bit more careful and you can't just blindly throw these young guys kind of
00:11:24to the wolves.
00:11:25Mike.
00:11:26Yeah.
00:11:27I say the same exact thing for the receivers as well, because yeah, the protection is one
00:11:30thing, but also, you know, you want to see Jayvon Baker go and, you know, beat a guy
00:11:35for a nine route and run under it for a touchdown.
00:11:37Kind of like we saw in the preseason with him and Drake may on that post, I think it
00:11:41was against the Eagles, but at the same time, you know, what we've seen from him so far,
00:11:46he goes out there and basically more often than not, he's kind of doing the wrong thing.
00:11:50And so that can mess up everybody else because you need all 11 guys on that same page where
00:11:56no bigger does the wrong thing.
00:11:57It trickles down.
00:11:58And then, you know, may is kind of running for his life because his guys aren't on the
00:12:01same, everyone's not on the same page.
00:12:03He ends up getting sacked and it puts him in danger just like it does, you know, with
00:12:07the offensive line.
00:12:08And so they seem to be giving, you know, Jalen Polk, obviously more chances than Baker, but
00:12:14he's not doing anything with them either.
00:12:17So, you know, it's kind of a, kind of a catch 22.
00:12:19You'll like that one, Alex, but like where, you know, you can put these guys out there
00:12:23just to give them a shot, but then it can also lead to the detriment and the sort of
00:12:28the regression, if you will, potentially of Drake may.
00:12:30So Brian, I like the way you kind of led that off.
00:12:32It all has to revolve around Drake may, but at the end of the day, you do kind of have
00:12:36to see what these guys have to, because you spent a second, you spent a fourth on them.
00:12:41And you know, at what point do you have to just either punt on it or be like, look, here
00:12:45you go.
00:12:47This is your chance.
00:12:48If you can't make the most out of it over the last four weeks, you kind of got to burn
00:12:50yourself back up next season.
00:12:52Taylor.
00:12:53I think the cold strain situation is super interesting because obviously, yes, you want
00:12:57to know what you have in him.
00:12:58Ben Brown is not under contract for next season, but cold strange has not played football in
00:13:02over a year.
00:13:04So you're going to throw him in there.
00:13:05Ben Brown is allowed to one pressure in the past two weeks.
00:13:08Like obviously he's still a replacement level player, but you're really going to pull him
00:13:14on the offense, which is already shaky to put in someone where you literally do not
00:13:18know what you're going to get.
00:13:19And obviously that's why you want to put him out there.
00:13:20So you have some idea, but Brian goes back to your point.
00:13:24Drake may is the priority.
00:13:25The run game is finally getting going.
00:13:27I think Cole strange with the fall off season, like, hell yeah, give him a shot.
00:13:30I'd love to see it.
00:13:31I think he could be a pro bowl caliber center because obviously we can say that he was overdrafted,
00:13:36but he was still an elite athlete and someone that even the Rams, they laughed when the
00:13:40Patriots took him.
00:13:41They were like, we still thought he was a good player.
00:13:43We just didn't think that we were going to be able to get him because we didn't have
00:13:45a pick.
00:13:46So I don't know when you put him into the lineup.
00:13:48I think if weighted Robinson struggles, then yeah, maybe because to be Frank, I was trying
00:13:54to find the film from late and that really got me like, all right, hell yeah, this is
00:13:58the improvement.
00:13:59He still saw the nastiness.
00:14:00He still saw the attitude.
00:14:01I love that from him.
00:14:02But at the second level, he looked lost.
00:14:04There were so many times where it looked like he had no idea who he was supposed to block
00:14:07or tried to block someone who was somebody else's assignment.
00:14:10And then in the first level, his chips didn't really do a whole lot.
00:14:13It felt like he was falling off blocks and he was mostly fine in past protection.
00:14:17But when he went up against the forest Buckner, understandably he was holding on for dear
00:14:21life.
00:14:22So I think that's really the only good in the close range has unless Ben Brown ends
00:14:26up struggling.
00:14:27Um, but I also think late in, they don't like Ed Oliver is probably going to be the biggest
00:14:31test that he has to face.
00:14:32And then the receivers, I think it is what it is at this point until they show me something
00:14:36else.
00:14:37I think that's where the maker is not doing enough in practice to earn more staffs.
00:14:40Jalen poke is maybe just doing just enough that he's still getting the packages, but
00:14:45not so much where you're saying, all right, we're going to start scheming things up specifically
00:14:49for him.
00:14:50Um, and then obviously Jaheim bell, we're seeing something from him.
00:14:53Like I know he had a block last week, but he also kind of fell.
00:14:56And it's a lot of the same that we've seen from Jaheim bell where it's like, you see
00:14:58the talent, but also the consistency isn't always there.
00:15:01So I know they're going to keep trying to throw these guys in like Isaiah Bolden and
00:15:05Alex Austin.
00:15:07I think they looked good last week.
00:15:08I'd like to see more of them for sure.
00:15:09But on the offense, I think that you're kind of forcing it unless one of these guys, you
00:15:13know, bi-week has an epiphany and there's totally different player, but I just, I think
00:15:18this year it just, it wasn't a great year for that class and hopefully things click
00:15:22next season.
00:15:23And then we can see them maybe start playing faster and really take advantage of the opportunities.
00:15:26I think Gaten Wallace, whenever he comes back, he's also been hurt for a long time.
00:15:31It's no guarantee that he plays any better than Demontre Jacobs.
00:15:33So, you know, it's just, it's a weird situation for this class.
00:15:36I'll say, I'll say this, uh, well, first off on Ben Brown, not under contract for next
00:15:40year, but he's an equal rights free agent.
00:15:42So if they want him back, he'll be now, maybe they don't want him back, but if they want
00:15:45him back, he'll be back.
00:15:47You can't really sign elsewhere as an ERFA.
00:15:49I was, I, it took until like two minutes at Taylor's answer for somebody to mention the
00:15:53corners.
00:15:55Those are the guys I want to see because I, we've talked to that corner.
00:15:59Maybe being this need, if Alex Austin can play more or less the way he played next week,
00:16:05it's not as big of a need as, as some other positions.
00:16:09And now maybe you don't have to use that premium asset.
00:16:11You don't have to use that top 100 pick.
00:16:13You don't have to go out and make, make corner one of your top free agent signings.
00:16:16You can put your attention elsewhere, uh, you know, offensive line receivers, pass rusher,
00:16:22et cetera.
00:16:23So I want to see the corners.
00:16:24I want to see what the corners can bring to the table.
00:16:27Um, that, that, that's the big position I'll be watching.
00:16:29Then Gaten Wallace is the other one, because again, it just checks off.
00:16:32All right.
00:16:33We only need one tackle instead of two, keep them on the right side, but we only need one
00:16:37instead of two Cole strange.
00:16:40It just scares me.
00:16:41Like you guys said, the fact that he hasn't played in as long as he has his status worries
00:16:46me a little bit.
00:16:47We'll probably see him next time out.
00:16:48Cause they have to activate him by them by then.
00:16:49And Gerard Mayo did say he expects, uh, strange to play for, for, for them down the stretch
00:16:55here outside of the rookies in the obvious drink may continue to show improvement, which
00:17:02we all want to see.
00:17:04What's the biggest thing you're looking for over the final four games, Taylor
00:17:09front of four games.
00:17:11I want to continue to see him continue to see him protect the football.
00:17:14That is the biggest thing.
00:17:15I want to side aside from Drake May.
00:17:17Oh, I'm sorry.
00:17:18From the obvious.
00:17:19We all want to see Drake may improve.
00:17:20Right.
00:17:21We all want to see him take that step aside from that, the young guys, what do you want
00:17:23to see?
00:17:24I'm still equipped because I wrote about this.
00:17:26So the areas for improvement one, I think the red zone execution on both sides of the
00:17:30The miscommunications and just letting teams into the end zone.
00:17:34The past two weeks has been way too bad.
00:17:36The miscommunication only really happened on the first one, but even still look like
00:17:39Christian Gonzalez should have been the unblocked guy and lost Anthony Richardson on one touchdown
00:17:44Christian Ellis on the two point conversion, like flies out of his gap.
00:17:47Like you need to be more disciplined on defense offensively, cut the penalties.
00:17:52Like this was the best red zone offense for Drake's first few starts.
00:17:56Now, honestly, it's funny.
00:17:57It's flipped where now they're really good outside of two minute situations in the red
00:18:01zone.
00:18:02They moved the ball really well over the past month, but once they get into scoring territory,
00:18:06going backwards and then you create these situations where it's like third in 22, but
00:18:11it's really third and goal and no defense is letting you in the end zone with the defense.
00:18:15I would also just like to see them more consistently defend mobile quarterbacks.
00:18:19Anthony Richardson didn't kill them with his legs.
00:18:21He had less than 50 rushing yards, but he got every conversion that he needed to with
00:18:26like Kyler Murray is a different beast, Justin Herberts, not like an elite runner necessarily,
00:18:30but Josh Allen, you're playing twice and he's one of the scariest dual threats in the league.
00:18:33So I want to see them better there.
00:18:35And then just the sink on offense, like the miscommunications, it may be too much to expect
00:18:39them to be a well-oiled machine by the end of the year, but I want to see fewer instances
00:18:43where Kendrick Bourne, a veteran is running the wrong route.
00:18:46I want to see DeMario Douglas and Drake show a little bit more chemistry against zone.
00:18:51Then Hunter Henry also just more consistency for him.
00:18:54He's Mr. Consistent, but also, you know, in a lot of their losses, you see moments
00:18:58where Hunter Henry makes a mistake that ends up ultimately costing them or being one of
00:19:02the things that costs them.
00:19:03So those are the big ones for me, Brian, I'll go.
00:19:07And I'm sure we're going to dive into the coaching staff a little bit, a lot more in
00:19:12this show, but just a strong finish from the coaching staff, right?
00:19:15We've heard Gerard talk about, you know, he's writing stuff down.
00:19:19He's kind of learning as the year goes, as you expect, he's a first year head coach.
00:19:23He's kind of learning on the job here, but maybe this bi-week gives him a time to do
00:19:29some self-scouting and look at some of these game management situations and stuff that
00:19:34will progress in situations that will come up.
00:19:36So you start to see some growth there, you know, AVP, Taylor's talked about the red zone.
00:19:43Can they end the year better in the red area and get those, that efficiency number up the
00:19:48Marcus Covington, like he'll have his hands full with some of these offenses.
00:19:53Can they maybe start to find an identity on the defensive side of the ball down the stretch?
00:19:58So that's kind of one of the things that will make me feel better about the staff, because
00:20:04I expect Gerard definitely be back next year.
00:20:07Most of the guys around him, maybe some small changes, but if they could have a good last
00:20:14month of the season, I think that would be really encouraging.
00:20:16I put a pin in that last point, Mike, what are you looking for down the stretch here?
00:20:19Yeah, I just think, you know, kind of high level, they need to really nail down an identity
00:20:24of this team.
00:20:25Right.
00:20:26And you know, on one hand and mainly on the defensive side where the offense, right.
00:20:30First and foremost, when they started the season, you know, grounded pound, don't pass
00:20:34until you have to type of team because it was to cover set.
00:20:36Now they've sort of transitioned from that and leaned on Drake man.
00:20:39I think that's fine.
00:20:40Obviously, because, you know, Drake may has been a stud, but defensively, right.
00:20:44They start and it's Taylor, you mentioned it earlier after our postgame show, you know,
00:20:49take them to the hill type of defense where Jabril and the offense, or Jabril was kind
00:20:54of talking up the offense after that first game.
00:20:56But you know, they were stout, they were sound, and now they seem to be mistake prone.
00:21:01And when they were given the opportunity to win that game last week, they lost it.
00:21:05And so they just need to kind of clean it up.
00:21:07And I know they've had the injuries and they've dealt with things, obviously the pepper situation
00:21:11and things like that.
00:21:12But the miscommunication, sort of the, the frantic nature of the defense sometimes doesn't
00:21:18sit well with me.
00:21:19And this is a team that that was their identity was supposed to be the defense.
00:21:23And they've really fallen away from that down the stretch here.
00:21:25And so clean up that defensive side of the ball and kind of make that your, your bread
00:21:29and butter heading in the next year.
00:21:31And and then Drake Mays, Drake Mays.
00:21:33So it's the coaching, it's coaching.
00:21:35You need to see some sort of traction from this group here moving forward.
00:21:39That's the biggest question.
00:21:40Can they start to figure it out?
00:21:42Because as we talked about at the beginning of the year, the, the whole point of this
00:21:46season, the whole goal was to be better in December and January than you were in September
00:21:52in show some sort of linear progress.
00:21:53Everybody talked to make comparisons to Bill's first year, or even going back to parcels,
00:21:59the modern comparison being Dan Campbell starting Oh, 10 and one, and then winning three of
00:22:04his last six right now, you asked me the best game they've played is probably Seattle.
00:22:11I know they've won three, but if you were to just not look at the score, watch the film
00:22:17in which game do they look like the best football team?
00:22:19I think it's Seattle.
00:22:21Now this game against the Colts offensively is probably number two.
00:22:24So there is some progress there.
00:22:26And I think you can say that the offense has is kind of on that trajectory, but overall
00:22:31the defense, the game planning, the game management, can they get better as the season goes on?
00:22:37And if they don't, who do you start looking at as potentially being on the chopping block?
00:22:43Who might the Patriots be moving on from, from the coaching staff?
00:22:45We're going to answer that question.
00:22:47That's our next question.
00:22:48But first, are we doing prize picks or game time?
00:22:50We'll do prize picks first, talk about prize picks.

00:24:05All right, now we have to do the part where we actually get this lined up, right?
00:24:10There we go.
00:24:11Okay.
00:24:12All right, let's move on here.
00:24:15I just kind of talked about coaching staff.
00:24:17Where are we at?
00:24:18Taylor's messaging me.
00:24:19He's upset about not getting points last round, which he did because he made some good points.
00:24:23Maybe not as many of them.
00:24:24Eager to defend.
00:24:25He started with seven.
00:24:26Didn't I?
00:24:27Your takes just sucked last round.
00:24:28You started with zero.
00:24:30That was the second round.
00:24:31That round, I started with seven.
00:24:32I didn't get anything.
00:24:34You got points.
00:24:35You lost a point, too.
00:24:36Oh.
00:24:37Ooh.
00:24:38So, I don't remember why, but I remember taking one.
00:24:41This is where we need the feature that can, like, freeze the player's screen so they can't
00:24:46talk or anything.
00:24:47Like, you can mute them, but, like, the freeze screen would be better.
00:24:50What was rule one about the points?
00:24:51Don't talk about the points in the middle of the show.
00:24:53That was rule one about the points, but Taylor, we'll give you a chance to earn some back
00:24:57here as we start.
00:24:59We all agree on this, that there certainly is an argument to be made for Gerard Mayo
00:25:05being a one-and-done coach, but that's most likely not going to happen.
00:25:10One, the Crafts simply invested a ton, both in terms of capital and in branding, in making
00:25:17him the head coach.
00:25:18The other thing is, if you one-and-done Mayo, that sends a pretty bad message to whoever
00:25:25you're trying to hire to replace him.
00:25:26And you're not going to get the cream-of-the-crop candidates that look at that and say, you
00:25:30hyped this guy up as your, like, the choice, didn't even have a hiring process.
00:25:36With that roster, and he only got a year, yeah, I'm not going there.
00:25:39So for a number of reasons, it's unrealistic.
00:25:42So putting Mayo to the side, I think anybody else is potentially fair game.
00:25:46Mayo, I don't think is moving on.
00:25:48Anybody else is fair game.
00:25:49So Taylor, starting with you, give me, like, the top three guys you have an eye on that,
00:25:55like, coordinators, position coaches, whatever, that you think are coaching for their job
00:25:59here over the final four weeks.
00:26:02Or maybe it's too late and they're done anyway, but the guys that we should be watching in
00:26:05that regard.
00:26:06Well, one, I'll go with Tyler Hughes and Type 1 Underwood.
00:26:11I don't know if that counts as two or one.
00:26:12That counts as, like, assistant coaches will count as coaches.
00:26:15That's a good one.
00:26:16Just because they're kind of a pair.
00:26:17But I just think there are other positions where I understand why they haven't gotten
00:26:21more out of their players.
00:26:22Like Scott Peters.
00:26:23The line hasn't been great.
00:26:24He's always in water out of rocks.
00:26:25Like, that makes a lot of sense.
00:26:27But then with the receivers, it's like he did have talent, like Jaymon Baker, super
00:26:31talented.
00:26:32Jalen Polk, talented enough, maybe a reach, but still a good player in college who hasn't
00:26:37shown really any of what we did see when he was at Washington in the NFL since the summer,
00:26:41at least.
00:26:42And also, like, Demario Douglas.
00:26:44Maybe he just doesn't have very good instincts against Zome.
00:26:47But other than the rat running against Mann, it doesn't feel like he's necessarily gotten
00:26:50better.
00:26:51And obviously, Keishon Booty is the one guy you kind of point to and say, yes, he's improved.
00:26:54But it feels more like that was him really putting his nose to the grindstone and just
00:26:58completely changing how he saw things.
00:27:00And the receiver position overall has been a bit of a disappointment.
00:27:03So you know, I think that overall, all these guys have some level of job security because
00:27:08I think a ton of coaches were handed pretty rough positions, especially like wide receiver.
00:27:13It wasn't a lot of great talent.
00:27:15Like Kendrick Bourne is your most consistent veteran, and he's out there running wrong
00:27:18routes almost every week.
00:27:20So those guys, I would say Evan Rothstein.
00:27:22I don't think anything's going to happen to him because it seems like Gerard Mayo values
00:27:25him a lot.
00:27:26But the situational execution has not been great.
00:27:29I think it's the one area where consistently it's a glaring issue with Gerard.
00:27:34We can talk about the media stuff like that's whatever, winning cures all.
00:27:37But the decision making in a lot of these crunch situations has been objectively lacking.
00:27:42You can debate maybe philosophy, but it's an issue regardless.
00:27:45And it's a consistent problem.
00:27:46So I don't know what Rothstein is doing.
00:27:48I would love for Gerard to tell us some times where he's done something that worked because
00:27:52just on the outside, it seems like, well, you've got this guy in the rear.
00:27:56Didn't he give him credit for the Vardarian low touchdown?
00:27:59Oh, he might have.
00:28:00He might have.
00:28:01I think he dialed that one up.
00:28:02Go ahead.
00:28:03There's that one.
00:28:04Instead of the three per, those are two good ones, Taylor, and if we do three per, we'll
00:28:10be here all day.
00:28:11So those are two good ones, Mike.
00:28:13Who else?
00:28:14Who are you looking at?
00:28:15Is it that list?
00:28:16Is there anybody else?
00:28:17It's DeMarcus Covington.
00:28:19It's the defense.
00:28:20Kind of what I said before.
00:28:21And I don't know how hot his seat is.
00:28:24We've kind of talked off air, the four of us, where there should and could be a situation
00:28:28where he keeps his job, but they bring in somebody else over the top, be it the Ben
00:28:32McAdoo of the defense.
00:28:34Steve Wilkes is a name that Brian mentioned to me the other day that I really liked.
00:28:38But on the other hand, shouldn't that be Gerard Mayo?
00:28:42Like Gerard Mayo is supposed to be a defensive coach, someone who can take over and be like,
00:28:46you know what?
00:28:47No.
00:28:48Give me the play sheet.
00:28:49I'm going to do this.
00:28:50Now he didn't call plays.
00:28:51Steve Belichick called plays, Gerard ran the meetings, that sort of talking point from
00:28:55last season.
00:28:56So it's kind of tough where you're a defensive minded head coach.
00:29:00That's your identity and you can't get it together right now at all.
00:29:03So I do think, and there's oftentimes too, where they start or they finished the season
00:29:07three and 14, something has to change and something high level has to change.
00:29:12And that may be a mandate that comes down basically from ownership because at that point,
00:29:16it's the definition of insanity, smashing your head against a wall and kind of trying
00:29:22to make that happen again.
00:29:24So I do think Covington may be coaching for his job, if not a significant change in leadership
00:29:29on that side of the ball.
00:29:30The other one, Brian Belichick could leave with Bill Belichick.
00:29:33I don't think he's coaching for his job, but I do think that he could be out of here and
00:29:37go work with his dad next season.
00:29:39Brian.
00:29:40Yeah.
00:29:41Covington's the big one.
00:29:42They might need to have a hard conversation about him just after the season.
00:29:47And I do think he's, you know, Gerard, one of, excuse me, one of Gerard's guys, but like,
00:29:54don't be afraid if it doesn't work to like, get rid of some of these Bill guys, you know,
00:30:00just cause he's been here and he was a Bill guy now, like I love Mike Pellegrino.
00:30:03I think he's doing a great job.
00:30:04I would keep him around, but you know, Covington, he, you know, was groomed by Bill.
00:30:09He came up under Bill.
00:30:10If you don't think it's best for the team to just keep DeMarcus Covington around, like
00:30:15move off from him and don't be afraid to do that.
00:30:18So I think there will be, and maybe it is just one of those guys over him to kind of
00:30:22help him along as he grows into this defensive coordinator role.
00:30:25So that's going to be the hard conversation.
00:30:27Taylor mentioned, you know, Tyler Hughes is a good, just to get a veteran wide receiver
00:30:32coach in that room.
00:30:33You know, I'm a huge Wes Welker fan.
00:30:36You know, he's been doing it in Miami.
00:30:38Is he friendly with Gerard?
00:30:40You want to give him the passing game coordinator, maybe to come up here.
00:30:44Antoine Randall L gets some of that Lions offense in here.
00:30:48Someone in the chat mentioned who I was going to bring up, you know, Brian Hartline has
00:30:51been one of the best, you know, famous wide receiver coach names at Ohio state.
00:30:56If Ryan day gets fired and he needs a new job, just someone who's been a veteran wide
00:31:01receiver coach, bring them in the room.
00:31:03And then Evan Rothstein was also my third kind of under the radar guide because he just
00:31:07seems to keep failing upwards in a way he goes from like offensive assistant to assistant
00:31:13quarterbacks coach.
00:31:14And now he's assistant quarterbacks coach and director of game management.
00:31:18And it's just, we never got a chance to talk to him because he's in those assistant roles.
00:31:22So we don't know like his philosophy is really about anything, but the game management hasn't
00:31:27been good in draw.
00:31:28Keep saying the talks to Evan about all of these things.
00:31:31So I don't know.
00:31:34Yeah.
00:31:35It just doesn't, it doesn't seem to be like a great role from him if they keep messing
00:31:38all this stuff up.
00:31:39So again, like Taylor kind of said, they seem to have a good relationship.
00:31:43So I don't know if they would, you know, fire him or get rid of him, but the roles for him
00:31:48just they're, they're weird to me.
00:31:50Yeah.
00:31:51I like, can I quickly just jump in on the relationships thing, Brian?
00:31:54Cause I like that point you made and I completely second it where yeah, relationships are important,
00:31:59but on the other hand, like what's more important, winning games or being, you know, best friends
00:32:03with the defensive or the defensive coordinator.
00:32:05Like you need to make those hard decisions as a head coach, you can't always be buddy
00:32:09buddy with these guys.
00:32:10And yes, like I said, relationships are important, but at the end of the day, if you're not winning
00:32:13games, you do have to have those hard conversations.
00:32:15I think that could happen with Covington and obviously with Rothney as well.
00:32:18The other thing with Covington is, is maybe Bill goes somewhere and tries to poach him
00:32:22and that turns into essentially a win win.
00:32:24I think Covington's the big one to me.
00:32:27And you know, has he gotten a little bit of the short end of the straw this year in terms
00:32:31of personnel?
00:32:32But you can't win three games and totally run it back.
00:32:35And I actually think Alex Van Peltz for what he's been asked to do has done an okay job.
00:32:40There are certainly areas that leave room to be desired, specifically the play calling,
00:32:45but Drake May's development has been good.
00:32:47We're starting to see the offense come along a little bit more.
00:32:50I don't know that Van Peltz, the guy you're pairing with Drake May for life, but I think
00:32:55he's earned another year.
00:32:56And along with that, um, one guy to look for.
00:32:59And I don't think he, I don't imagine he'd be fired, but does TC McCartney get maybe
00:33:05drawn away?
00:33:06You know, if a team misses out on an offensive coordinator or two in the process and suddenly
00:33:12there's a shortage there, a team hires a defensive head coach and needs an offense coordinator
00:33:16they think may stick around a little bit longer just because of the job he's done with Drake
00:33:20May.
00:33:21Other guys I think you look for, you guys hit it on the head with Tyler Hughes.
00:33:24They still can't develop receivers.
00:33:26He's another Belichick guy who was here when they had those issues.
00:33:29They need to go outside of the building to find a wide receivers coach.
00:33:33Uh, it, they, they have to like plain and simple.
00:33:37Is there one coach and Taylor, we'll start with you because you kind of gave this in
00:33:40your answer.
00:33:41Is there one coach that let's say there is a shakeup and then we're talking about potential
00:33:46trickle down of new hires or fires or whatever.
00:33:50Is there one coach you're going to pound the table for and say, keep this guy in the building?
00:33:55Oh, that's a good one.
00:33:56Um, I would probably just go with my boy, Scott Peters.
00:33:59I don't really think, like I said, I don't think he's on the hot seat, but I also think
00:34:03that what he's gotten from Bedarian low, like that's the one consistent piece he's had where
00:34:07like David Andrews gets hurt.
00:34:09Mike and when you flip flop in between positions, but you're actually, obviously the mental
00:34:13mistakes are one thing, but you are starting to see a little bit more of the old school
00:34:16Mike and when you were the run game was starting to get going and it feels like he's getting
00:34:20comfortable again.
00:34:21And obviously if you look at the numbers, it's like, Oh my God, this Patriots offensive
00:34:24line has been one of the worst in the NFL.
00:34:26It's like, yeah, but look what you gave him.
00:34:28Like this isn't what we thought it was going to be.
00:34:29We're Caden Wallace.
00:34:30You know, at some point in the season is contributing for you were to Kumo Corp or is on the roster.
00:34:35And even if he's not at left tackle, at least you have some kind of answer, right?
00:34:38You have options.
00:34:39And then, you know, left guard, you were thinking city.
00:34:41So it was going to take a step forward.
00:34:42And I think we're just seeing that the tough part about Scott Peter system is that the
00:34:46reason I think also he went for Caden Wallace is that you do need some level of adaptability
00:34:53and being able to pick these things up and be comfortable with them probably suits you
00:34:56more for veterans than young guys.
00:34:58But I also think that the Darien Lowe being a guy who's been one of the, I don't even
00:35:02want to say better.
00:35:03That's kind of unfair, but like a milling past protecting tackle is pretty incredible
00:35:07considering how he was losing last season.
00:35:09So Scott Peters and that staff, they shouldn't be going anywhere.
00:35:12It looks like they've done a really good job and we see them in practice too.
00:35:15I really like kind of how they have everything where Peters is kind of overseeing stuff.
00:35:19Mike McCarthy sometimes will pull guys off to the side and then you got a Krugler Krugler
00:35:24doing a lot of the, you know, hand hands on stuff.
00:35:26So yeah, those are, that's one, you know, I think you need to keep Brian, it'd be easy
00:35:31to say TC McCartney just to keep continuity with Drake May in that quarterback room, but
00:35:37I'll go Mike Pellegrino, just they get the most out of all these guys, whatever cornerback
00:35:42seems to kind of come in.
00:35:45He's been doing a fantastic job with Christian Gonzalez and that's probably easy to do, but
00:35:49you see some of that mental stuff starting to develop with Gonzalez, like that interception
00:35:54against the Colts where he gets kind of beat on that route earlier and then he comes back,
00:35:58he recognizes it later.
00:36:00So cornerback, it might be a need here and you know, I think Pellegrino throughout his
00:36:05tenure here has done a great job in that room.
00:36:08It is a Belichick guy.
00:36:09So if Bill gets a job, maybe he tries to, you know, take him, but I would love if they
00:36:14found a way to keep Pellegrino around here.
00:36:17Mike, I don't know how much, frankly, he helps the room, but Bob Bicknell has done, or the
00:36:26tight ends have done, have been, excuse me, have been very solid this year.
00:36:29Hunter Henry's had a great year.
00:36:30Austin Hooper has come on the last couple of weeks.
00:36:33His chemistry with Drake May, even Jaheim Bell, there's been some mishaps, but they're
00:36:37using them more in that sort of H back fullback role.
00:36:40So again, I don't like Hunter Henry and Austin Hooper are vets.
00:36:43They come in every day.
00:36:44They do the work.
00:36:45They've done this in the, um, you know, in the league before.
00:36:48So I don't know how much handholding or like little development coaching Bicknell has to
00:36:53do, but his room's been really solid.
00:36:55So you got to give him credit for that.
00:36:56So I think he's been an under the radar guy who's assumed, assumed to have done a good
00:37:01job.
00:37:02I mean, I think Taylor and Brian, you hit the two big ones for me.
00:37:04It's Scott Peters and it's Mike Pellegrino.
00:37:06We know what Pellegrino can do with long history there, and we'll see if he ends up going with
00:37:10Bill or not.
00:37:11Uh, on, on Peters to me, it's like you look at what he's gotten, how many times have we
00:37:16come away and it hasn't been good, but how many times we come away saying, wow, the offensive
00:37:20line wasn't great, but there's a lot better than we thought it would be.
00:37:23And if this is what he's getting out of a bunch of fringe NFL players with starters
00:37:28stepping in and out every week and all these different combinations, give him five, like
00:37:32true NFL starting caliber players and give him that group week after week after week.
00:37:38And yeah, I'm really excited to see what he could build.
00:37:40Maybe more than Pellegrino, honestly, just because of how important offensive line development
00:37:45is specifically, uh, Peters might be at the top of my list.
00:37:48I did see somebody way back, talk about Elliot Wolfe in this conversation.
00:37:52So one, we're just talking coaches to you.
00:37:57It goes back to what I said about Mayo.
00:37:58If you give Elliot Wolfe one year, he delivers you Drake may, regardless of what the rest
00:38:04of the draft was.
00:38:05Then you let go of them.
00:38:06You're not going to be able to hire another high Cal like another GM worth a damn because
00:38:09anybody else is going to look at that and say, that's way too quick a trigger.
00:38:13I'm not going to be comfortable there.
00:38:14I'm not going there.
00:38:15I mean, eventually somebody will, but you're going to, the top candidates are not going
00:38:19to seriously consider you when they have other options.
00:38:21So that being said, I think we more or less will know Wolfe's job standing like his jobs
00:38:29more or less done come July.
00:38:31Yeah.
00:38:32They trim the roster down from 90 to 53 players, but you got to give yourself good options
00:38:35to trim from.
00:38:36Right.
00:38:38Let us know next July.
00:38:39If Elliot Wolfe gets a year three or nine, because it was not a good off season.
00:38:42It wasn't.
00:38:43And they have to hit a home run this year.
00:38:46He, I think because of Drake may gets another shot at doing that, but he's got to do it.
00:38:52It can't be another one.
00:38:54Like they can't pass on free agency again.
00:38:56I know that's the pack away and all that pack away works because there's years and years
00:38:59and years of that draft stacked on top of it, building the foundation.
00:39:03You have Brett Farve.
00:39:04You have Aaron Rogers is this constant.
00:39:07They didn't have that here.
00:39:08Take one year spending free agency, build that foundation and then pack away your heart
00:39:13out.
00:39:14I don't care, but there needs to be a foundation in there in order for that philosophy to work.
00:39:21Taylor, if I may, I just, I want to hear the off season that everybody wanted Elliot Wolfe
00:39:26to have.
00:39:27I understand it was disappointing, but was it disappointing because of the expectations
00:39:31that maybe Gerard Mayo unfairly set maybe that we even contributed to, or was it just
00:39:37the reality of the situation that they were in?
00:39:38Because I have yet to hear anybody.
00:39:41Everybody complains about Elliot Wolfe.
00:39:43I don't hear him getting any credit for Ben Brown or DeMontre Jacobs or Jaqueline Roy.
00:39:48Obviously Jaqueline hasn't played in a minute, but like guys who he signed after the cut
00:39:51deadline and have actually contributed to this team and been suitable players, especially
00:39:56where they were severely lacking with Yannick and Gawkway obviously hasn't worked out, but
00:40:00at least he went out and tried to help the pass rush, which we obviously know, like there's
00:40:04not a whole lot you can do if your pass rush sucks late in the year.
00:40:08And obviously like Chooks didn't work out and a lot of that was because he was being
00:40:11asked to play on the other side, but like he left.
00:40:14It's not like you sign Chooks and he played poorly.
00:40:15He left.
00:40:16That's one of those, like, that's like when you play Madden and then that one, like 32
00:40:20year old veteran who's been on the team forever just randomly retires and you're like, well
00:40:23shit, like, you know, it's just one of those weird situations you can't really account
00:40:26for.
00:40:27And I understand also like, you know, they also cut a few players that they signed, but
00:40:33at least they're not just hanging on to guys like the, oh my God, I can't remember the
00:40:36center's name.
00:40:37I feel so bad.
00:40:38Nick.
00:40:39Nick.
00:40:41For some reason, I kept Nick Mullins was in my head for some reason, but like you cut
00:40:43a guy like Nick Levrett, but also you're not just holding onto him.
00:40:46Like you understood he's not playing well enough.
00:40:48We need to make a move.
00:40:49So I just, I want to hear what people wanted them to do and what players they didn't sign
00:40:54that are also playing well right now, who reasonably would have come to a team where
00:40:58like Austin Hooper and KJ Osborne, two guys who probably didn't have a lot of options
00:41:01were both like, yeah.
00:41:03Yeah.
00:41:04You know, I came here for familiarity pretty much or like, cause I wanted to be part of
00:41:05a rebuild where they knew they were kind of taking an L personally and they still decided
00:41:09to come here.
00:41:10Just, I don't really understand what people want it differently from Elliot Wolfe.
00:41:13And I think that he's done the best with the minimal resources he has relative to who actually
00:41:17wants to be part of this team.
00:41:19And obviously, you know, they have all the money, but just don't want to spend it.
00:41:22Like you try to get, I, you try to get Ridley, try to get help and you just don't make yourself
00:41:25look stupid by overpaying Ridley or staying in on Brandon.
00:41:28I, when it's clear he has no interest in coming here.
00:41:30Yeah.
00:41:32I would say, you know, you look at the draft and taking, you know, not the draft is the
00:41:39big one.
00:41:40I would say in free agency to, you know, don't get me wrong, Demontra Jacobs has been a good
00:41:44player.
00:41:45Ben Brown's been a good player.
00:41:46They're not unicorns.
00:41:48And was there somebody like that available or the, could they have brought in more options
00:41:53available?
00:41:54A lot of the tackles they had in camp, we knew weren't going to make the team.
00:41:58They were there to just be bodies.
00:42:00Kel and Deesh.
00:42:01Uh, who is the guy from UTEP, Henry, Kelly, well, I, I'm not bringing up the roster when
00:42:10like when Elliot signed them, he didn't think they were making it.
00:42:12Well, no, but that's my, that's kind of my point is they need, like, could they have
00:42:17brought in more competition at those positions?
00:42:20Could they have, if like, if the plan was to get these kinds of fringy guys, I need
00:42:24names, not Charles.
00:42:25I'll give you Charles.
00:42:26I think Charles Leno was one side for less than what shook sign for, where did Charles
00:42:31Leno go?
00:42:32Oh, he's on the commanders, right?
00:42:33He's on the commander.
00:42:34He's good.
00:42:35He got hurt.
00:42:36He was good before he got hurt.
00:42:37So like, I mean, they also still have an area in low.
00:42:39If we look up the numbers, you're telling me that Charles Leno has been better than
00:42:41the Darien low, which sounds insane, but like, I think he was, I think he was, I think he
00:42:46was.
00:42:47Cause when I looked this up, it was his last time we had this argument, but the point just
00:42:52being like more competition, more competition, just being a little more aggressive.
00:42:56It felt like they, and it's, it's felt like that throughout the season.
00:42:58They have their guys that they want to make work and to some extent that has, but there's
00:43:02also been times where I feel like maybe they're banging their head against the wall and either
00:43:06this guy's not an option or maybe he's just not ready yet.
00:43:09So look, Ellie, well, it's going to get another off season.
00:43:13It's just the approach needs to change a little bit and, and the results need to change.
00:43:17Um, it can't be another season like that.
00:43:19So I'll send it.
00:43:20We haven't played this year.
00:43:21Did I get the wrong name?
00:43:23I thought it was Charles Leno, not Charles Leno.
00:43:24He's not played this year.
00:43:26Who is it?
00:43:27That's the commander's left tackle.
00:43:29They signed some veteran who's been, yeah, maybe it's who replaced Charles Leno.
00:43:33Let's see commanders.
00:43:35They signed a tackle that signed for half of what you explained for.
00:43:38I remember looking this up.
00:43:40They also drafted Brandon Coleman, who we all liked Brandon Coleman.
00:43:43Yeah.
00:43:44Uh, there, who is it before?
00:43:46Was it someone before Brandon Coleman?
00:43:47Cause it's him right now.
00:43:48Cornelius Lucas.
00:43:49Yes.
00:43:50That might've been it.
00:43:51That's who it was.
00:43:52Yeah.
00:43:54I'm sorry.
00:43:55I'm not moved on Cornelius Lucas.
00:43:56I'm sorry.
00:43:57Uh, anyway, we'll look, they have another off season to try it.
00:44:02I would just say building more of a foundation, um, should be key.
00:44:05All right.
00:44:06Let's hear from our friends at game time.
00:44:07Right.
00:44:08We still have to do that.
00:44:09Let's hear from our friends at game time and they'll keep it going here on this crossover
00:44:11episode.
00:44:12Let's talk about game time.
00:44:14The exclusive ticketing partner of the C LNS media network has the new game time picks
00:44:19feature that filters out the fluff and shows the only incredible deals on great seats.
00:44:24You don't have to waste your time searching through thousands of tickets.
00:44:26If you're heading out West to Arizona, you can get into Patriots at Cardinals right now
00:44:31for as little as $57 and the next home game for the Patriots chargers coming to town at
00:44:37Gillette stadium, 40 bucks is the get in price and that is with the, uh, they're all in pricing
00:44:43feature toggled on, which means you're not going to hit with it, get hit with any hidden
00:44:46fees.
00:44:47Uh, no surprises that checkout that is the grand total.
00:44:51Uh, that's probably one of my favorite features of the game time app.
00:44:54The other one is seeing your seat view right from the app.
00:44:57Not all ticketing apps do that, but game time does.
00:45:00You can find out, you know, if you're not familiar with the stadium, you're going to
00:45:02be seated behind a pole or you're going to not have a great view of midfield, anything
00:45:06like that.
00:45:07You can check it out right on the game time app.
00:45:09So take the guesswork out of buying tickets with game time, download the game time app,
00:45:14create an account and use code CLNS for $20 off your first purchase terms apply again,
00:45:20create an account and redeem code CLNS for $20 off.
00:45:24Download game time today.
00:45:25What time is it guys?
00:45:26Game time.
00:45:27Anyone?
00:45:28Anyone?
00:45:29Come on.
00:45:30Oh, my mic is muted.
00:45:31Game time.
00:45:32I said game time.
00:45:33Okay.
00:45:34All right.
00:45:35Good.
00:45:36All right.
00:45:37Taylor's muted.
00:45:38That's usually his cue.
00:45:39As, as we look ahead to this off season speaking, we're all right.
00:45:40So Elliot Wolfe, Taylor, would you agree he needs to have a better off season this season
00:45:43than he did last year?
00:45:46You may tell me.
00:45:47I'll do it.
00:45:48Um, yeah.
00:45:49I mean, yeah.
00:45:50I mean, it has to be better because hopefully you have a quarterback that's going to attract
00:45:53people like the draft, I would say, and I, Dan Brugler is going to be on past daily later
00:45:58this week.
00:45:59And we talked about it.
00:46:00I think maybe instead of trying to like, the claim was clearly, we need a receiver and
00:46:04we need to tackle for Drake.
00:46:05I think that led to them reaching at the time I felt like, you know, maybe, uh, uh, Kane
00:46:10Wallace was a reach.
00:46:11I kind of like Pope.
00:46:12Um, obviously jury's still out, still very early on in their careers, but yeah, I think
00:46:16you need to draft more best player available than for need this year.
00:46:21But that starts with a good free agency.
00:46:22And hopefully with all this money they spend, I hope they're not saying, Oh, we can't get
00:46:25Javon Holland because we've got Marta Mapu.
00:46:27Oh, we can't get Trey Smith because we have Leighton Robinson.
00:46:30Like, no, you have the money.
00:46:32Try your best to get all the top players because you do not have a position other than quarterback
00:46:36with so much talent that you don't need any help.
00:46:39Okay.
00:46:40So before you, I do want to, we're going to wrap up with the draft, but before we do that,
00:46:43Michael start with you.
00:46:45Big three positions of need for the Patriots.
00:46:47What are they?
00:46:48Uh, tackle.
00:46:50Wide receiver and edge rusher.
00:46:53Uh, I put edge over corner.
00:46:55I'm hoping to see, uh, those, those young guys that we're talking about, Alex Austin,
00:46:58Isaiah Bolden step up at corner.
00:46:59So I think hopefully they'll be able to wait that out a little bit more, but it's obviously
00:47:04receiver.
00:47:05It's obviously tackle.
00:47:06And I think Brian, you tweeted some Abdul Carter highlights this morning from Penn state.
00:47:10I think, uh, I don't know if they're going to go first round edge rusher.
00:47:12I think they need, uh, obviously tackle and wide receiver over that, but they haven't
00:47:16gotten a lot out of that position really since Jude on left, they traded who chaper
00:47:20next to nothing.
00:47:21Uh, they've had some injuries there, obviously, uh, Zimenez goes down, uh, and got, we asked
00:47:26him to great.
00:47:27They need more.
00:47:28Uh, that is a premier position on the, uh, on the defense side of the ball.
00:47:31And I think they definitely need to tackle that.
00:47:33Brian.
00:47:34Yeah, I agree.
00:47:36It's those three.
00:47:37You need that at least a better receiver than, you know, I don't know if it's, you know,
00:47:43looking at T Higgins, is he a bonafide number one?
00:47:45Maybe not.
00:47:47You need to upgrade over what you have in your room.
00:47:48So wide receiver, offensive tackle, you know, you got to upgrade.
00:47:54We like for Darien low, but he's best probably as your backup left tackle, you'd feel a lot
00:47:58better if you have a number one left tackle in there.
00:48:01So wide receiver tackle and then yeah, at Drusher, they just haven't been able to get
00:48:05a pass rush this year and Christian Barmore.
00:48:07If he's looking more like himself next year, obviously going to, to help things.
00:48:12Keon white even looks better as the season goes on, but if you can go out and, you know,
00:48:17I don't know if you can find a three down rusher, like those guys are hard to find.
00:48:22Like you're going to have to take one of those guys at the top of the first round, but you
00:48:25need more from that pass rush.
00:48:27And if you could go find a good edge player that that would be big, uh, to help that next
00:48:32year.
00:48:33Taylor.
00:48:34I got nothing new.
00:48:35We all know what the positions are that they need.
00:48:37Like you need the premium spots and nobody's going to go bold with like corner or maybe
00:48:41linebacker.
00:48:42I think, God, like my thing is, I just, I don't think any of them are big enough needs.
00:48:50Now, obviously if you get a great player at like corner, it's like Will Johnson or something
00:48:54and he's healthy and all that.
00:48:55And you have him and Christian Gonzalez, that's awesome.
00:48:58Linebacker is one of the most underrated positions where it takes a minute for those guys to
00:49:01click.
00:49:02But it's like, if you have an elite linebacker, you tend to have some type of elite defense
00:49:06because they just do so much for you, but you do need an edge rusher because you haven't
00:49:10had that.
00:49:11You had it with Jude on obviously a couple of years ago, but you haven't had that in
00:49:13a while, especially someone with juice receiver.
00:49:16We all know you just need that easy button and then the trenches need to be better.
00:49:20Like my number one priority this off season, even if they don't get a receiver, I need
00:49:24much more compelling offensive line play.
00:49:27Um, so yeah, I'm, I'm not, you know, I'm not going bold or anything.
00:49:31They need to fill their premium positions with cheap electric talent that they do not
00:49:36have right now.
00:49:37No, I'm with you guys.
00:49:38I'm with you guys.
00:49:39Tackle receiver, pass rusher, and to your guy's point about T Higgins, is he a true
00:49:44number one?
00:49:45Is he that guy?
00:49:46I think he's the baseline we're in.
00:49:48And what I mean by that is if they add T Higgins, I will say they check the box for the kind
00:49:53of receiver they need, but he's probably the lowest caliber player.
00:49:58I would say they, that would accomplish that.
00:50:00Like no more middling in these like two, three ish tweener guys like Christian Watson doesn't
00:50:05do it for me.
00:50:07I'd rather run it back and give Jalen Polk more of a look, gave, give Jay Vaughn Baker
00:50:11more of a look.
00:50:12Now you're just stacking the same kind of guide.
00:50:14Maybe it's a slightly better version, but you're just stacking the same kind of guy.
00:50:17Christian Watson is not a Tuesday morning player.
00:50:20To me, T Higgins is a Tuesday morning player.
00:50:23He has weaknesses and there's definitely questions about his durability, but when he's on the
00:50:27field, he's problem.
00:50:29Everybody knows who I really want and that's DK Metcalf.
00:50:32But to me, T Higgins is like the baseline of the kind of receiver.
00:50:35All right.
00:50:36I'm backfired.
00:50:37Mike.
00:50:38Yeah.
00:50:39And I like going by the big three cause it feels like, and I didn't say that to blame
00:50:42you.
00:50:43I'm setting you up.
00:50:44I like going by the big three cause it's just an easy way to frame it.
00:50:45And you usually have three picks in the top 100.
00:50:48So big three needs boom, boom, boom.
00:50:51Give me the number four.
00:50:55I want to say corner, but we kind of already talked about it.
00:50:58So I maybe safety like Kyle Duggar hasn't been great.
00:51:02The last couple of weeks to Bill Peppers is only another year older.
00:51:06Jalen Hawkins, replacement level, Del Pettis, a good UDFA hit, but he's also replacement
00:51:11level like, you know, he can, you know, those guys sort of make an impact, but you could
00:51:16use some more help in the back end, especially from what we've seen, the lack of communication,
00:51:20the lack of, I think that a lot of it may have to do with Duggar's injury.
00:51:25Like I don't want to give him an excuse there, but I think that that definitely plays a part
00:51:29of it.
00:51:30But I do think safety could, could sneaky be a need here, whether it's through free
00:51:33agency or whether it's a, you know, fourth or beyond picking the draft Taylor.
00:51:38I'm going to go with, I think I'll actually go with a corner, a little corner, just cause
00:51:46we really don't know like Jonathan Jones, another year, he already is starting to lose
00:51:50a step and still reliable for the most part, but you're still not sure.
00:51:53I like how he's pending for agents too.
00:51:55Yeah, exactly.
00:51:56And I think that he'll like, I would be stunned if he continues to play and isn't here.
00:52:00I think they do value him as a player and as a person like Alex Austin, you still don't
00:52:04know for all the good plays he had last week, obviously still shaking off rust, but like
00:52:09sometimes facial awareness is an issue for him or like there last year, I'd see him run
00:52:12into guys in man coverage sometimes.
00:52:14And I saw that last week where he's not quite so great that you're like, Oh, we're good
00:52:19in bold and hasn't played enough for you to really know.
00:52:21And also like with the pass rush, that can be kind of up and down, especially in the
00:52:25trenches.
00:52:26But like you have bar more, you have Keon white, good interior rushers.
00:52:29If you have two good interior guys that helps the coverage out so much more, and then you
00:52:33can get those playmakers on the back end.
00:52:34So if you can't really get that edge presence necessarily, I would love to just have the
00:52:38lockdown secondary, kind of like what they had in the Gilmore days where really the strength
00:52:42of your defense is that back end.
00:52:44Brian.
00:52:45Yeah, I think I, I'd go corner and that's a good spot maybe to buy and free agency,
00:52:50but for the sake of a different conversation, and this might sound a little weird cause
00:52:54it's been one of the more productive positions this year, but maybe tight end, you know Henry
00:53:00and Hooper, like they've been great this year.
00:53:02Don't, don't get me wrong, but they are up there in age.
00:53:05They either both are 30 now, or they will be by the time next season starts.
00:53:10And it's a spot that we saw in Cleveland is a big part of Alex van Pelt's offense.
00:53:14Drake may loves throwing to these guys in for as reliable as they are.
00:53:19There's not much juice there after the catch.
00:53:21So this is a really good tight end class.
00:53:25If you could go, you know, it's not going to be your first round pick, but maybe on
00:53:28day two, you know, Colston Loveland, Michigan's probably on the higher end of that list, you
00:53:33know, Tyler Warren, Penn state.
00:53:34But if you could go get a guy with a little bit more explosiveness at that position, I
00:53:38think that would be kind of a big boost to Drake may in this offense.
00:53:42Real quick, Hunter Henry's birthday is the seventh.
00:53:47Happy birthday Hunter Henry.
00:53:48I think had Tyler Henry, uh, Tyler, uh, uh, Warren, his first round pick in his mock draft
00:53:53this morning.
00:53:54That's a sneaky good one.
00:53:55Cause if there's one thing we've learned about Drake may, he really likes throwing a tight
00:53:58ends.
00:53:59So you want to make sure you have the position stocked and that's usually Brock Bowers is
00:54:02such an anomaly in that, like even for the year he's having, like usually rookies as
00:54:07a hold on performance, a tight end, that's one of the slower developing positions.
00:54:10So having somebody in the pipeline, but like you said, they can address that later.
00:54:13I'm going to go with linebacker because of the Patriots want to play this like super
00:54:18amorphous defensive thing they've been playing and run zone as much as they have and things
00:54:22like that.
00:54:24They need a linebacker with some range and they don't have that.
00:54:26They've missed Mack Wilson tremendously this year.
00:54:29And I, you can aim a little higher than Mack Wilson, certainly, but this is a, the free
00:54:34agency class isn't bad at linebacker.
00:54:37And it's a really good linebacker draft too.
00:54:39It's kind of all the positions that the nerds have told us to forget about are the strong
00:54:43ones this year, running back tight end linebacker kicker.
00:54:47Like these are the strong positions in the strap, not saying they don't, they might need
00:54:50draft kicker, but like Harold Perkins, Danny Stutzman, uh, there's some good linebackers
00:54:56in this draft.
00:54:57And Jay, I think if you get a linebacker that can give you that real East West element,
00:55:03it's going to make things a lot easier for everybody else on that defense.
00:55:07So I not the first round pick, I don't even know, you know, second round pick.
00:55:12But a decent investment in linebacker, I feel like would be good.
00:55:15And that brings me to just about where I want to wrap up today.
00:55:18So we've all kind of, I know Taylor and Brian, you've used the bi-week to kind of start looking
00:55:22at some of these college players.
00:55:23Uh, Mike, I'm sure you've looked as well.
00:55:26We all know about Will Campbell.
00:55:27We all know about Travis Hunter.
00:55:28We all know about Abdul Carter.
00:55:30Is there one guy you've watched?
00:55:32Is there was one guy you've looked at either in the last few days or just like over the
00:55:35course of the season, that's maybe not on the radar that you're excited to tell people
00:55:41about?
00:55:42We'll obviously get into this more once the offseason starts, Taylor, we'll start with
00:55:46you because I know you've every time I see you now, you have an update on this guy.
00:55:49So I think I know who your answer is going to be.
00:55:52Pat Bryant.
00:55:53That's my dog.
00:55:54I really, really like him.
00:55:55Honestly, I was when I was even talking to Dane, he was saying, yeah, this is a guy who
00:55:58we really didn't even know if he was going to get drafted.
00:56:00Now we're going to be talking about him as, you know, potential mid round pick.
00:56:04One thing that really excites me, you know, I love, you know, good character.
00:56:07I love the background.
00:56:08Give us school in position first, just so everybody knows.
00:56:10I'm sorry.
00:56:11I'm sorry.
00:56:12Pat Bryant, wide receiver, Illinois.
00:56:13I just assume everybody knew who he was by now.
00:56:15Yeah, but one, I was so the reason I found him was I was trying to find the most productive
00:56:19deep receivers in this class, because even if the Patriots do get T Higgins there, he
00:56:24isn't really the consistent, like he's going to win deep guy, really, he's elite short
00:56:28and he can definitely win downfield, but not always.
00:56:32Bryant is one of the most productive deep receivers in college football.
00:56:34I look at the tape, he actually reminds me a lot of T Higgins.
00:56:39He's one of those guys who's tall, also kind of like Ted McMillan where they're tall, but
00:56:42their knees aren't like super high up.
00:56:44So they can still bend pretty well, especially for taller receivers.
00:56:47Really great catch radius.
00:56:48And all three of those guys, the ability to catch the ball and immediately get ready to
00:56:53turn up field and become a ball carrier.
00:56:55I love that in a receiver.
00:56:57So I think that Bryant has some three level ability.
00:57:00Now I think he's going to be more of like a low four, five high four, four kind of guy,
00:57:04but this is a team that doesn't have a lot of size, especially on the outside.
00:57:08I think he worked really well with Drake May.
00:57:09And then from a character perspective too, like he's really active in the community.
00:57:13I know he lost a friend to violence in jail and that kind of inspired him to want to make
00:57:17more of a difference with the youth.
00:57:19So I love that his coach cried while talking about him during an interview, which you don't
00:57:23see that all the time.
00:57:24A football coach cry talking about someone's character.
00:57:27So Pat Bryant's like my first draft crush and I really hope they can get him somewhere
00:57:31in the middle rounds.
00:57:32I'll say this too.
00:57:33He committed to Illinois.
00:57:34I think it was like two or three days after a coaching change, which is pretty rare.
00:57:39Like at that point you go back and you open up your recruitment, you see what you can
00:57:42get.
00:57:43He wanted to be a part of that program and they need people that want to be a part of
00:57:45a rebuilding program.
00:57:47So he clearly has the stomach for that, for what that's worth.
00:57:49Senior Bowl.
00:57:50Did you mention he's going to the Senior Bowl?
00:57:51He's going to the Senior Bowl.
00:57:52Also another Jacksonville wide receiver.
00:57:55So maybe some sort of relationship with Pop Douglas.
00:57:57So there you go.
00:57:58It's all coming together, baby.
00:58:02I think because when the Senior Bowl posted that he got accepted, I think they linked
00:58:06his Twitter and Pop was following him.
00:58:10So there might, you got to, you got to talk to Pop about it.
00:58:12Well that Jacksonville football scene, I mean, Mack Jones is in there too.
00:58:15I'm sure he knows Mack Jones and starting quarterback Mack Jones.
00:58:20We got two of them in the New England locker.
00:58:23Oh, that's right.
00:58:24He's a Jacksonville guy too.
00:58:25Brian, who you got?
00:58:28I did spend my day watching Abdul Carter, fun watch, but that's a top five pick, right?
00:58:34That's going to be your first, first early round pick.
00:58:36So I lost a point for that.
00:58:38Oh, I have another guy coming.
00:58:41Another edge rusher, Kyle Kennard, South Carolina.
00:58:45Like that's, you're talking, if we go tackle or receiver first, we're looking at maybe
00:58:50day two edge rusher.
00:58:51This guy started the year probably as like a later day three pick and he's worked up
00:58:55maybe that top 50, top 60 range, like he's long, he's twitchy, he's a good athlete coming
00:59:02off the edge.
00:59:03We'll all watch the Will Campbell film and he gave Will Campbell some problems, you know,
00:59:07with that, you know, with those long arms and with that athleticism off the edge.
00:59:11So I'm hoping South Carolina might sneak into the playoff somehow here.
00:59:15So we get to watch, you know, Kennard maybe against some top level offensive tackles or
00:59:20whatever matchup he gets, just watch him play more football.
00:59:23But that's, that's a day two edge who I found that's a fun watch so far, Mike, I'll throw
00:59:29Josh Simmons out there declared today.
00:59:31I don't know how under the radar he really is, but everyone talks about Will Campbell
00:59:34and Calvin Banks with the Patriots throw, you know, throw another top top tackle out
00:59:39there.
00:59:40I know we just had the knee surgery this season, but you know, according to Drew Rosenhouse,
00:59:43friend of the Patriots he should be all set for training camp.
00:59:47So I mean, they need tackle help.
00:59:49I don't know if, uh, Will Campbell's arms are going to check out like everybody thinks
00:59:52they are.
00:59:53Uh, so, and I'll throw out another tackle that, that one just bugs me.
00:59:57Like that feels like such a half measure and it feels like such a what if, and they need
01:00:01more shore picks a guy coming off a torn ACL like that.
01:00:05You know, at that point I looked at a guy like Josh Connerly from Oregon who was in
01:00:09the same recruiting class as Will Campbell and Calvin Banks and was ranked higher than
01:00:13them.
01:00:14Those guys had just been three years started as they started as true freshmen.
01:00:17Connerly didn't.
01:00:18Connerly might go back to school.
01:00:19So that's, that's a whole other conversation.
01:00:21Uh, but Josh Connerly is not my guy.
01:00:23I'm actually going to go with a shocker out of the sec.
01:00:26And I've talked about this guy in the past, but he's not getting nearly enough love from
01:00:29Patriots fans right now.
01:00:30And that's Dion Walker, the defensive tackle from Kentucky.
01:00:34If you follow my draft coverage, you know, maybe my feet and I've been doing the draft
01:00:39since 2019 like intently, maybe my favorite prospect ever in the NFL draft was Jordan
01:00:47Davis.
01:00:49Jordan Davis is an alien.
01:00:50Jordan Davis is not of this planet.
01:00:52He's unreal.
01:00:53I also really liked to Andre sweat.
01:00:54Like if you can't tell, I kind of have a type here.
01:00:56Are you creepily athletic for your size?
01:01:00Are you astonishingly athletic for your size?
01:01:03Dion Walker's not quite Jordan Davis.
01:01:05I put him kind of in between Jordan Davis and it's of Andre sweat, but he is of that
01:01:10mold of he's six, five, three 35 and he moves like he's two 80.
01:01:17And I, the reason I bring him up is I've seen a lot of Patriots fans say, well, you
01:01:21know, best player available at five Mason Graham looks really good at Michigan.
01:01:26Yes.
01:01:27You could play Mason Graham and Christian Barmore together and it'd pretty probably
01:01:32be a pretty good pairing, but a defensive tackle.
01:01:34That's not an impact position, which would potentially be a top five pick.
01:01:39I think there's a, you're going to have a much better haul if you were to move down.
01:01:44I don't think there's that much of a drop off from Mason Graham to Dion Walker.
01:01:48We'll see what happens when we get into the offseason testing, but I don't, if you tell
01:01:51me that those are two options, I'm trading down and taking Walker because him and he's
01:01:55more of a traditional defensive tackle him with Barmore and Keon white would be a ton
01:02:01of fun, a ton of fun, and you're going to be able to get really creative with that group.
01:02:04The one other guy I'll give you is Jack Sawyer from Ohio state.
01:02:08I kind of talked about putting them together.
01:02:10So true three down edge player.
01:02:14He can stop the run.
01:02:15He can rush the passer.
01:02:16This guy's mean.
01:02:17This guy was in the middle of the fight in Michigan, Ohio state.
01:02:22He's the one that took issue with them planting the flag and look on one hand, they just stood
01:02:27there.
01:02:28On one hand, if you don't want them to take the flag, if you don't want to plant the flag,
01:02:31win the game.
01:02:32Right.
01:02:33But it wasn't the Ohio state defense's fault.
01:02:34Exactly.
01:02:35They lost that game and they need somebody that gets pissed off about losing like that.
01:02:40They need somebody who's not going to let flags be planted metaphorically at midfield
01:02:43of Gillette stadium.
01:02:44You put him, Keon and Barmore up front.
01:02:47If you're an offensive lineman, you are going to hate your life for 60 minutes facing.
01:02:52Those are three very nice guys in person.
01:02:54Well, I've never met Sawyer, but Barmore can't wait.
01:02:57Very nice guys in person.
01:02:59You strap it up, you get on the field.
01:03:01Those are some mean, angry, nasty fellas in 60 minutes of that is going to wear you down.
01:03:06So that's another guy.
01:03:07Come on.
01:03:08We all know we need a little nasty on the defensive front, right?
01:03:11Well, not on the front, but there's a lot of quiet guys on that team.
01:03:17Both of the trenches need a little bit of nasty.
01:03:20This offensive.
01:03:21They need a little bit of nasty.
01:03:22I think Jack Sawyer is going to give you that nasty.
01:03:23Everybody Jennings absolutely brings the nasty.
01:03:25I'm not saying they have nobody.
01:03:27Jennings plays with some nasty.
01:03:28Barmore is getting back to it.
01:03:29Played with more of it last year.
01:03:30I understand he's still getting back in shape.
01:03:32So they have some of that.
01:03:34I already said Demontre Jacobs.
01:03:36Sometimes you'll see him get in on it a little bit, but no, Jack Sawyer would be exciting.
01:03:41As we wrap up here real quick, we're going to go rapid fire.
01:03:53Mike, who wins the national championship?
01:03:55Oh boy.
01:03:59I'm trying to think of whoever's going to.
01:04:01Alabama.
01:04:02Alabama wins it all.
01:04:03They get in and they win it all.
01:04:04All right.
01:04:05You're getting muted for that one.
01:04:06And I'm an Alabama fan.
01:04:07They have no business being anywhere near this thing.
01:04:09Taylor.
01:04:10I'm going to go with Oregon.
01:04:11Good pick.
01:04:12Is that a good pick?
01:04:13No.
01:04:14Dan Lanning's best coach in the country.
01:04:18So I'm all for that.
01:04:19They're the only undefeated team.
01:04:20I mean, they're a favorite, but they were the favorite for a reason.
01:04:24Brian.
01:04:25Yeah.
01:04:26I don't trust Dylan Gabriel, I don't think, but I was going to go Oregon too.
01:04:30Just Dan Lanning.
01:04:31Those videos.
01:04:33I know one of them was against Wisconsin, but the video of him smashing the Washington
01:04:36helmet, like he, he is awesome.
01:04:38So I'll go, I'll go Oregon for now.
01:04:42I'm still going to where I'm going, Oregon.
01:04:43I I've been saying since the beginning of the year, it was going to be Ohio state.
01:04:46But I said that with the caveat of they're going to win it in spite of Ryan day, not
01:04:51because of them.
01:04:52The roster is just too good.
01:04:54It might not be Ryan day proof.
01:04:56And that's going to ultimately be the difference.
01:04:58So I wish we got them in Oregon again and the big 10 championship.
01:05:01Maybe we get it in the natty, but we'll see.
01:05:03All right.
01:05:04Based on the points, Brian is our winner today with 25 points.
01:05:07Just beats out Taylor.
01:05:08All right, Brian.
01:05:0930 seconds.
01:05:10Give us a take.
01:05:11All I get my take.
01:05:13I need my like Woody page chalkboard up here with a quote on it.
01:05:17And you know what I would say?
01:05:18I would say expect disappointment.
01:05:20So you never get disappointed.
01:05:21And even if it said that I'm still ready to get disappointed because Juan Soto, I'm all
01:05:26in on him coming to the Boston Red Sox.
01:05:29He wants to win.
01:05:30No team has done that better than the Boston Red Sox last 20 years.
01:05:33He apparently wants a good prospect pool.
01:05:36No team has more top 10 prospects than the Boston Red Sox.
01:05:39He wants to be the face of a franchise.
01:05:41Come be the next Dominican Republic star in Boston.
01:05:46Big poppy Manny Ramirez team up with Rafael Devers, be the Dominican star in Boston.
01:05:53Just saw Alex Spear at a report that the Red Sox have not been one of the teams that have
01:05:57been eliminated yet, which apparently he started doing last night.
01:06:00So I am all in on Juan Soto to the Red Sox.
01:06:03I am ready to be disappointed when he inevitably go somewhere else.
01:06:08Isn't it kind of funny that all of the things that Juan Soto reportedly wants, it's Red
01:06:14Sox reporters telling us things that the Red Sox can offer?
01:06:19Is that a coincidence, sir?
01:06:22The prospect one was Heyman who that's usually comes straight from Boris.
01:06:26I don't know that I've ever heard of a free agent being like, you know what?
01:06:28I want to play with a bunch of young guys who are going to be in line and take my job.
01:06:31Well, if you're signing a 12 year deal, you probably want to know who's coming up in the
01:06:36pipeline.
01:06:37Fair enough.
01:06:38We'll see.
01:06:39I'll believe it when I see it.
01:06:40That's been my stance and I'm sticking with.
01:06:42All right.
01:06:43That'll do it for us here on this crossover episode.
01:06:46This is it for Patriots beat for the weeks.

01:06:54Taylor, what do you and Mike have coming down the pipeline?
01:06:57Mailbag tomorrow and then on Friday, I believe we will be dropping a video that I recorded
01:07:02with Dane Brugler, NFL draft analyst for the Athletic.
01:07:05We talked about this year's draft class, Drake May, some of the more disappointing guys talked
01:07:10about the draft class two years ago, Gonzo, Keon White, Pop, Booty, even said he's so
01:07:14and we also talked about some potential fits at positions of need like we did for the Patriots
01:07:19from his perspective.
01:07:20That was a really fun interview.
01:07:21Excited for everybody to see that one.
01:07:23All right.
01:07:24So you go for more.
