00:00What's going on, everyone?
00:25Welcome back to another live edition of the Patriots Beat Podcast here on the CLNS Media
00:31Network presented by our wonderful friends over at PrizePix and GameTime.
00:36It's Brian Hines back as always with Alex Barth.
00:39Day three of the Senior Bowl, the final day of practices is in the books, so we'll break
00:46down what we saw today.
00:47It was a bit of a lighter day.
00:48One team wasn't even wearing full pads.
00:51It had the feel of, you know, they kind of treat this as a game week, so it kind of felt
00:55like a Friday night NFL practice where there was some red area stuff, and it did feel a
01:01little bit lighter on the lighter side of things.
01:02I think Bubba Ventrone, coach of the American team, even said, you know, a lot of these
01:07drills and sessions are jogged through, so we'll talk about some players that did stand
01:11out and we'll kind of wrap up the full three days of practice before the game on Saturday,
01:17but we can get into it.
01:18We can start.
01:19I want to start with the Trenches.
01:20Again, that's what we did every other day.
01:24We did see some guys didn't show up.
01:28It was more of some of the top edge rushers, but all, you know, Josh Connerly, Ariante
01:32Ursary, the headlines of that offensive tackle class were there today.
01:35Back on the left side, I thought it was as advertised as what we've used to kind of describe
01:40those guys on the left side throughout this week of practices, so what'd you see from
01:46them today and anyone else at tackle spot?
01:49We've talked a lot about Anthony Belton, Ozzie Trapillo from BC.
01:53What'd you think of the tackles there?
01:55Well, I thought it was a good day.
01:56So many of the edge guys left, right?
01:58Like Mike Green, some of these other guys left, so it was a chance to maybe see some
02:02more of the depth guys, some guys we haven't talked about.
02:05One guy we have talked about, though, that I think popped today was, and let me see if
02:08I can get it, because even Ventrone couldn't get it, Princely Umunnelian, Umunnelian, Umunnelian
02:16or something like that.
02:18You will get it.
02:19We will get it.
02:20We will get it.
02:22I thought he was really good today.
02:24I thought he had just kind of regularly winning.
02:27He didn't have that Mike Green type over, over dominating rep, but I thought he was
02:33pretty good.
02:34I thought it was another solid day for Cameron Jackson as well.
02:37Savion Jones, another SEC player that had a good day.
02:43And we finally, uh, Lana Jackson, I've been, he hasn't been bad this week, but I was thinking
02:47he might be a little more dominant.
02:49And I think the player we saw today from him was a little more what I was expecting.
02:53I'll add one more edge, uh, David Walker from, uh, central Arkansas, I believe one of those,
02:59you know, lower level school guys who can really use this week, uh, to propel himself.
03:04I thought he came in really the last two days.
03:07He carried it over today to pretty impressive and one-on-ones made some plays in team drills.
03:12So David Walker along the edge, a little bigger guy, he's shorter arms.
03:17So he had some trouble dealing with length at times, but I thought for, you know, a lot
03:21of the small school guys, even like going back to the offensive line, you know, we talked
03:24about the kids from Jack state, Sacramento state, you know, some of the, and that's what
03:29the senior bowl is, right?
03:30A chance for some of these smaller school guys to propel themselves up there.
03:35Along those lines, if we're going to talk about the defensive line, Danny Striga, yeah,
03:40I think deserves some credit.
03:41And look, I'm not going to pretend to know a lot about them because I didn't know who's
03:44going to be here.
03:45Nobody knew who was going to be here.
03:46He got a call last night at 11 o'clock that they need to know the lineman showed up stretch
03:50for like five minutes, came in and got a sack.
03:52So the fact that, you know, he was initially invited, wasn't it?
03:56I don't think he was at any of these games, kind of sort of tells you the way he's viewed
03:59in the league, but you want to get people's attention.
04:01That's how you get people's attention.
04:02That's the guy that wants to be out there that wants to be playing ball and you know,
04:06GM's notice things like that.
04:07So he might help, excuse me.
04:10He might've helped himself today more than anybody just with that literally showed up
04:14like halfway through practice and he's taping his hands out there and they're like, you're
04:18going to jump in there.
04:19He's like, well, I got to warm up a little bit.
04:20I missed the warmups, but once he got in there, yeah, he made a few plays.
04:25So that was pretty impressive.
04:26And then another small school guy, I talked about him yesterday, Darius Alexander, more
04:30of an interior rusher from Toledo, like again, just playing all over the defensive line,
04:36dominating guys one-on-one in pass rush and then carrying that over to team as well.
04:41So Darius Alexander, a late round guy coming into the week again from Toledo, like we're
04:47not watching much Toledo and then all of a sudden this guy is dominating one-on-ones
04:51and he puts himself on the radar, maybe moving up there early on day three or something after
04:56a strong week there.
04:57So there was a lot of talent on the defensive line specifically, and it gave those offensive
05:03linemen a good test.
05:06You know, now that three days of practice are over, do you feel any differently about,
05:12you know, the Josh Connerly's or the Ariante or series of the world there at the left tackle
05:16spot?
05:17No, and I, that's not a good thing or a bad thing.
05:21I just, I feel like a lot of my priors were confirmed again.
05:24Josh Connerly, probably not a right, not a right tackle.
05:27Okay.
05:28I don't really care about that.
05:33But no, I, I still feel like they're in that fringe, like 20 to 40 range and I think they
05:38would work for the Patriots.
05:39I think they're an answer for Patriots need.
05:41They're maybe not the best answer, but they're definitely a legitimate answer.
05:44And there's a lot of questions they need answered.
05:46So you can't answer everyone the best way possible this off season.
05:50I think both would make sense with that second Patriots pick.
05:53It's just a matter of, you know, Josh McDaniels or through Vrabel that, that piece that Evan
05:59did on patriots.com about how it's, you know, it's still going to be the same foundational
06:04Josh McDaniels offense.
06:05There's going to be some changes.
06:07So where are those changes?
06:09That makes it tough to say, I think Ursary's probably more their guy if we're just going
06:14off of that.
06:15And that's on a very fit.
06:16It's not to say Connerly isn't a fit that's on a very thin margin.
06:20It's just, I honestly, what I do to go back to look at that, like I can see the line between
06:27Ursary and Trent Brown and them making that connection.
06:30I don't know what tackle.
06:31I think Connerly is a good tackle.
06:34Who does he line up with as a Patriots tackle and people will go right to Isaiah Wynn, but
06:38it's not, he's, it's not, that might be as close as you can get, but it's not close.
06:43So I, I think Ursary's probably more their guy, which is maybe my big takeaway from these
06:51two, but I don't, I don't feel strongly about that.
06:54Like I think they could absolutely make it work with Connerly.
06:57I could totally, especially if they're going to do some more of that RPO read option thing,
07:01get a guy that can maybe, you know, get himself out in a space, which Ursary can do.
07:06I just, I don't know.
07:07I feel like Ursary's maybe a little more their guy.
07:10Solder, Connerly's not as like lengthy as Solder.
07:13Solder was tall too, wasn't he?
07:15Like six, six, six.
07:16I think so.
07:17So that's not maybe like skillset wise.
07:21It's a better comp than Wynn, but not physically like putting the whole thing together.
07:26They really haven't had it and didn't have them any tackles starting left tackles when
07:30Josh McDaniels was here.
07:31That's part of this, right?
07:32They went Matt light.
07:33It really went Matt light to Nate Solder to Trent Brown.
07:37There wasn't, I know there was other guys here and there.
07:39I think Volmer played left tackle for them a little bit.
07:42And um, you know, then they had, they had a couple of guys in, in, you know, Wynn rotated
07:47in there and things like that, but there just weren't that many.
07:49So it's, it's tough to find a comp.
07:50There is a conference.
07:51And it's not, I'm not saying he is a player as compared to Trent Brown, there's probably
07:55better comps, but like, if I look at it, I can see how they would look at it and say,
08:00we can put this guy on the same development plan.
08:03We had Trent Brown and I know they didn't draft them, but they developed them.
08:06We can put this guy on the same plan.
08:07Trent Brown had like, there's, there's mirroring there.
08:10We can use him similarly with Connerly.
08:13He's a good player.
08:14And I do think he has skillsets they can use again.
08:17That's how razor thin the tiebreaker is for me.
08:19And like, there's not a guy you point that and you say, yep, that's what Josh Connerly
08:24is going to look like in the McDaniels offense.
08:26Yeah, I guess I probably should have looked back at like Denver and Vegas and see if he
08:30had anybody there.
08:32Well, he did.
08:33He signed Trent or no, that was, he didn't sign.
08:38Trent was already there.
08:39Um, so he was in Vegas 22 and 23, right?
08:43Yeah.
08:44So that would have been back here.
08:47Trent came back in 21 cause he was here with Mac.
08:50Yeah.
08:51So they're starting Gruden or whoever was there in Vegas during that time.
08:55So they had Colton Miller, who's massive.
09:00And then what year is he in Denver was 2008, 2008 or nine and then he was there for two
09:10years.
09:11Okay.
09:12He got there in 2009.
09:13He came back here in 2010 for the playoffs.
09:17So yeah, 2008 cause he was with, oh yeah, no, 2008 is Shanahan.
09:23Oh, then maybe, maybe it was defense coordinator, Bob Slowick.
09:27So in 2009, 2011 playoffs and that's when he came back.
09:33Yeah.
09:35So in 2009 doing a little real time research here, I'm sure this is great, a great radio.
09:41I know Ryan Clady was a bigger guy.
09:46So that's not really a comp 2010 Ryan Clady, Ryan Clady again.
09:52And he was a rookie.
09:54And then I guess if we're really going to play this out, Brian, he, you know why he
09:56came here in a year later, uh, because remember, yeah.
10:02So as Broncos nine, 10, you had the right thought about the playoffs, but no, he got
10:06fired after years, the Rams offensive coordinator.
10:09Yeah.
10:10So if we go to that Ramsey, I don't even know who the starter is here.
10:13I'm just looking at the roster, Adam Goldberg, Mark LeVoir, Thomas Welch was probably Mark
10:18LeVoir.
10:19Who's six, seven listed at a hundred, right?
10:26I don't think it was him.
10:27I got, uh, anyway, I'll, I'll sounds like he likes bigger guys, but yeah, yeah, there's
10:34definitely a type there that was 2009 and 10.
10:38Maybe he is, you know, if we hear this, if he's adjusting kind of his offense, maybe
10:43he does want the more athletic guy.
10:45And that's really what they have to decide.
10:47Cause you know, Connerly six, four, three, Oh, it's Roger Saffold.
10:50I know what Roger said.
10:51Roger Saffold.
10:52That was Roger Safford.
10:54What's his height?
10:55Six, five, three 25.
10:56So still a little bit bigger.
10:57Okay.
10:58Yeah.
10:59So Connerly six, four, right around three 15 and nursery six, five, three 40.
11:03So two really different types of body types and skillsets.
11:06So they have to decide, you know, which one fits what they want to do better.
11:10If they are, you know, looking at one of those two guys with, with their, uh, second pick
11:14there, uh, either at 38 or moving up into the first round or earlier, even in the second
11:20round, they have to, uh, make that decision there, but any other offensive lineman's at
11:25all, uh, catch your eye either today or throughout the week.
11:27I know we talked about Anthony Belton, uh, a good amount gray Zabel on the interior,
11:32probably tough to factor into their plans unless they, again, nail free agency in the
11:38trade market, but who else, uh, throughout the week had your attention, uh, Belton, Belton's
11:45definitely good.
11:46Belton.
11:47Uh, he had a, he had a rough, rougher day today that didn't help, but I still think
11:51overall this week for him, you call it a positive.
11:53You say he helped himself.
11:54Um, and then still some of the interior guys, uh, from yesterday, clay web, I think is,
11:59has helped himself out.
12:00Certainly.
12:02What about the, uh, BC kid?
12:03Are you higher, lower on?
12:05Is it your pillow or Trapio?
12:09I was saying Trapio.
12:10I don't know.
12:11We'll have to ask Kevin, Kevin stone.
12:13Uh, I, I mean, you know, I think he can be like a, I wouldn't draft him and be a starter.
12:21I kind of felt that coming in.
12:22I'm maybe a little bit higher, but I still think he's a project player.
12:26When I say I wouldn't draft him to be a starter.
12:27I mean, he's not a guy that's going to come in and start right away.
12:30He's a guy that you're going to be on the right side, but, well, yeah, he's going to
12:34be on the right side.
12:35I guess he could be a guy like you draft him and you know, you start season with Kane Wallace,
12:40you see how that goes.
12:41If Wallace doesn't give it to you, maybe you have him ready to be another option when you
12:45get like a month, month and a half in the season.
12:49But also like if you draft a guy for that role, I'd kind of also like that guy to have
12:53some left tackle flexibility, which I guess he did.
12:56Okay.
12:57It left yesterday.
12:58So I guess I'm a little higher on him.
12:59I wasn't like blown away or anything, but I mean, he's a solid player.
13:03Yeah.
13:04It's a solid day three pick.
13:05I think at the very least he's a good depth pick for the offensive line, which for all
13:09we've talked about this team needing one, potentially two starting tackles, a starting
13:12guard, a future starting center.
13:15Let's not lose track of the fact that they need backups at most of those positions too.
13:18They don't really have any backup tackles.
13:20We don't know who they're like.
13:21Maybe it's Ben Brown at backup center, but we don't know.
13:23We don't really know who the backup right guard is.
13:25So they need backups too.
13:27And getting those guys in the draft makes a ton of sense.
13:30I don't know how much you're going to hammer that in for agency.
13:32So if it's Aussie Tropeo, it's like your backup right tackle and you're working him a little
13:37bit on the left side on day three.
13:38Yeah.
13:39That would make some sense.
13:41I would like to think they have some backups out of the current group, right?
13:44Like at guard.
13:45Yeah.
13:46I don't know what tackle like you don't think the Darrell, so the Darien low is interesting
13:50because he was a disaster last year at right tackle, right?
13:54Like could he be a pure swing tackle?
13:56Like I would be comfortable with the Darien low as your backup left tackle, but then does
14:03he have that ability to swing that that will be interesting to figure out.
14:07He's also, but he's also, I guess I'm projecting a little further cause he's on a one year
14:10contract.
14:11Okay.
14:12So that's not a guy you're going to pay.
14:13So if you were to draft somebody who can man that now you move on from low and you have
14:18that set, right?
14:19Same thing.
14:20Are you, you're probably bringing DeMontre Jacobs back.
14:22I think he's in the RFA.
14:24So you're probably bringing him back.
14:26Is he a roster lock?
14:27I don't think so.
14:28Could he be a backup right tackle?
14:30Yeah.
14:31He'd be in the competition for that spot, but could you get somebody better?
14:35That's like, you know, early, mid day three.
14:37I think he could.
14:38So that's not to say that like they don't have the guys, I guess I, I shouldn't present
14:42it that way to me.
14:43It's more, do you think they can get a better, better backup right tackle and DeMontre Jacobs
14:49on day three of the draft?
14:50I think they could improve on Vardarian low on day three of the draft as a backup.
14:54I think they could probably, they probably could, but that's your trench report.
14:59That was where all eyes mostly were throughout the past few days.
15:04Some really good talent, especially on the defensive line side of things.
15:08So let's talk about some pass catchers, but very quickly before we do that, we also want
15:11to talk about price picks where you just pick more or less on at least two players for a
15:16shot to it up to 1000 times.
15:18Your cash and playoff season is almost over.
15:21So it's now or never don't miss out on the last week of football action with price picks
15:26where again, you can win up to 1000 times your money with the big game and they have
15:31a big game free pick a Patrick Mahomes projection discount.
15:35Patrick Mahomes is passing total was 250 and a half.
15:39It's down to a half.
15:40So he just needs more than half a passing yard.
15:42One passing yard for Patrick Mahomes gets it done.
15:45And you can pair that with any other player projection.
15:49Maybe he's throwing a Travis Kelsey more than 62 and a half receiving yards, Xavier worthy,
15:53more than 56 and a half receiving yards or on the other side, Philadelphia, they're going
15:57to run the ball with Saquon Barkley, more than 112 and a half rushing yards for Saquon
16:03Barkley over there.
16:04So if you'd like any of those to pair with Patrick Mahomes, make sure you download the
16:07price picks app today and use code C L N S to get $50 instantly.
16:12After you play your first $5 lineup, that's code C L N S to get $50 instantly.
16:17After you play your first $5 lineup on price picks, run your game.
16:22All right.
16:23Talk about those pass catchers.
16:26Which wide receivers did you enjoy watching either today or throughout the week?
16:32So Tez Johnson is going to be, we had this conversation yesterday, but Tez Johnson is
16:36going to be the guy that's really interesting.
16:37I will say this.
16:38First about Tez Johnson, because I figured I'd watch him a little closer, right?
16:42He's like Lee.
16:43He was leading a bunch of huddles.
16:44He was hyping guys up.
16:45I love his demeanor.
16:47I do love his demeanor.
16:48I love his body language, all of that.
16:52I still not sure he's a fit for the Patriots, but he definitely had, um, as good a week
16:57as, as probably any receiver had.
16:59I thought Shane Higgins had it, you know, capped it off today.
17:02Had another nice day.
17:03It was good.
17:04He's really helped himself this week.
17:09Kyle Williams had one or two nice place.
17:12He did have like one real, just bland route that turned into an interception on the red
17:18zone.
17:19Um, was that the nine steps to get a yard?
17:23There was a lot of that.
17:24The last few days.
17:25There was a lot of that from a lot of guys the last few days.
17:28I don't, yeah.
17:29Kyle Williams.
17:30Like I think most of the week his releases were very nice, but there was a one.
17:35He literally took nine steps.
17:36Like he had a jab and then a crossover to get like two yards and a lot like Tez Johnson
17:40did that a couple of times.
17:41There were a lot of, a lot of foot fires and stutter steps, you know, to get out.
17:46There was one where, and look, I said, Jaden, uh, Jaden Higgins had a good week, right?
17:52There was one where it took, you need a calendar at a time.
17:54How long it took him to get out of the break?
17:57Like he was just hammering his feet.
17:58But, uh, one other guy who I think had his best day today, but it's kind of quietly had
18:01a strong week is Jim DK out of Florida.
18:06The guy that badger or former badger, former badger.
18:10There you go.
18:11Um, I just thought he was kind of, I kept noticing it was, Oh, that's a nice ride.
18:15Who's that?
18:16All right.
18:17It's DK.
18:18All right.
18:19Oh, that's nice.
18:20Catch.
18:21Who's that?
18:22Oh, it's D like he just, he didn't have a highlight, but he kind of kept flashing big
18:23play.
18:24Threat has more of that size you want traditionally on the outside six, one, 200.
18:30So maybe a Patriots target on day three.
18:33Yup.
18:34I thought Restrepo is a little bit better today too.
18:37Um, especially down, you know, showed you how hard he is to guard down along the goal
18:41line.
18:42Um, and Jill Noel, Noel throughout the whole week, that was one of my favorite receivers
18:48to watch.
18:49I want to talk about all these guys wasting movements.
18:51He is the opposite.
18:52He is very quick in and out of his breaks, top of the route.
18:55Like, and he's got, he was one of the fastest, you know, with the zebra technology in terms
19:00of just pure miles per hour, straight line speed.
19:02So that's a guy who can really threaten a defense on every level.
19:05If it's, you know, with this quickness in the underneath for a second level or the vertical
19:10speed to really stretch the field.
19:12And I thought for a guy who was, I think he measured in at five, nine, just short of five,
19:1710.
19:18Like he was, they had him on the outside and he, he was impressing on the outside.
19:22I don't think he's going to live on the outside, certainly at the next level, but you know,
19:26just the versatility is nice for other teams.
19:28And then if you want, you know, a bigger receiver, uh, Jack bash from TCU had another
19:33really good day, some more catches and contested targets, uh, downfield.
19:38So that's, uh, I think he's six, two, six, three, one of the more bigger receivers, you
19:42know, not opposite of the slot guys, but, uh, Jack bash, I thought deserves some credit
19:46for, for two good days, uh, over the last two days as well there.
19:51Yeah.
19:52Um, tight ends.
19:55Any tight ends?
19:56Yeah.
19:57Elijah Arroyo from Miami stole the show throughout the week.
19:59He had one today, another touchdown and he punts the ball up into the crowd.
20:03So he certainly helped his stock, but there were some good tight ends behind him, uh,
20:08as well.
20:09Who would you like out of that group?
20:10I think the big story besides Arroyo for me from the tight ends is just the lack, uh,
20:16from Harold Fanning, the lack of production, the lack of pop from Harold Fanning and specifically
20:20you noticed when they rent in the red zone today, like he was struggling with smaller
20:24defensive backs hanging on him and didn't play as physically as I expected him to given
20:30his size.
20:31So he had, he had a rough week and it'll be interesting to see what that means.
20:35But for a Patriots team that is maybe looking for that developmental tight end, I don't
20:39think he falls, you know, outside of the top 100, but does he maybe fall from the second
20:44round into the third round and now suddenly he's in the conversation for the Patriots.
20:48So that, that was more notable to me.
20:51Like I thought Mason Taylor had a good week.
20:52I thought Terrence Ferguson had a good week.
20:54Those are probably the other two guys behind Arroyo that I thought stood out.
20:57But the big thing for me was like, I kept wanting to see it with Fanning and it just,
21:02he, he never showed that, that pop that you're expecting to see.
21:06Do you think Arroyo could use that to jump them as tight end three because it's Warren
21:11Loveland one, two, however you want to put those guys.
21:14And I think coming into the week it was Harold Fanning and then probably, you know, Mason
21:19Taylor Arroyo Gunner Helm who was supposed to be there, but he, he bailed out.
21:24So do you think after the week we're looking at Elijah Arroyo as tight end three over Harold
21:30Fanning, or is it more trust the tape with what you saw from, from Harold Fanning and
21:35you know, he's still tight end three.
21:37I mean, he's in the mix.
21:38I think that's the best way I can put it.
21:40He's in the mix.
21:41I, I, you know, you look at Mason Taylor and just what he brings in terms of readiness
21:47and professionalism, how polished he is.
21:50You look at Gunner Helm and the upside he has, uh, obviously Arroyo with his athleticism
21:54and then Fanning's another guy, like, I think that's probably all sort of one group now.
22:01And it's going to be, you know, the teams that are taking the tight ends, what are they
22:04looking for?
22:05What are they prioritizing with that pick?
22:07But I would say Arroyo was good.
22:10I don't mean this to downplay Arroyo.
22:12I think it's probably more of a case of fan and falling back to the pack than anything
22:17else.
22:18Yep.
22:19All right.
22:20Thank you guys.
22:21Uh, running backs, uh, again, the game on Saturday should be a little better environment
22:25for some of these running backs.
22:26We did see some pass protection, uh, one-on-ones today.
22:30So did anyone, uh, stand out to you as a whole though, in that running back group from the
22:35three practices?
22:36Again, one wasn't even in full pads today.
22:37So tough environment to really judge these guys, but did anyone catch your eye?
22:43I think I'm still going to be pounding the table for LaQuinta Allen.
22:45Just looks really polished.
22:48Really smooth.
22:49Like you said, they did some of that pass pro stuff.
22:51They threw the ball to the running backs a little bit more red zone.
22:53Like this was, this was more his day to show up.
22:56Um, I was impressed with him.
22:58I thought your guy, RJ Harvey, uh, had a solid week.
23:02I still can't get over Ollie Gordon though.
23:03I, I, I still just, and they were talking about it on the broadcast.
23:06He had a rough pass pro rep today, but he's not like, I saw that he's not a pass pro guy.
23:11I'm drafting him first and second down to be a bowling ball.
23:15And there was one they had on the goal line where I don't think they were supposed to
23:19be full speed.
23:20And the defender is kind of coming full speed and all the Gordon's kind of size them up.
23:23And it's like, all right, I guess we're doing this and just flattened them.
23:26So like that, I, I don't care about Ollie Gordon's past protection.
23:29I don't want them on the ball on the field when they're throwing the ball.
23:32Frankly, I want him running between the tackles, lowering his shoulder, bowling over people.
23:38He did have a one or two nice runs to it looked like in team one, Anthony Belton was leading
23:42the way.
23:44I'm still, I'm still an Ollie Gordon fan, especially where, you know, when this stacked
23:48running back class, if he gets kind of pushed down a little bit.
23:51Well, did you hear, um, I forget who it was on the panel.
23:55They did this bit, I think it was in between practice.
23:58I think it was at the end of the first practice where like they each got assigned a team and
24:03they had to like pick a guy or two in the senior bowl and make like, who do you want
24:08for your team from the senior bowl and how does it work?
24:11And now Charles Davis had Washington.
24:14I don't remember who it was.
24:15Somebody had the giants and their pitch was their big pitch.
24:18They picked a couple of players, but like the first guy they mentioned was Ollie Gordon
24:22at the top of the second round to erase all the Saquon time.
24:26And I don't think Ollie Gordon is Saquon and he said like, this isn't to say Ollie Gordon
24:30can be Saquon, but it gets you a running back.
24:33You can build around.
24:34He was like quarterback X and Ollie Gordon.
24:38And then that's the, that's the offense you're building around in New York.
24:42So round top of the second round, I, and I've been hyping up Ollie Gordon as much as maybe
24:48anybody besides Taylor Elger's mother's week.
24:51But I, I even heard that it was like set top of the second round.
24:55Wow.
24:56For Ollie Gordon.
24:57I thought that was a little high, but you know, it kind of felt like one of those segments
25:01where it was maybe a little bit informed and it was a way to like get informed information
25:05out there without it being a report.
25:08So I'm trying to remember what some of the other, uh, Charles Davis just picked like
25:13all the best linemen for Washington.
25:14He kind of cheated.
25:15He was like, we're going to make a bunch of trades and we're going to get Connerly and
25:18Zabel and Belton and we're going to protect Jane Daniels.
25:21I'm like, it's not really the point of the exercise.
25:22It's not how this works, Charles, right?
25:25But, uh, yeah, I thought that was interesting that, you know, and look, I think Ollie Gordon
25:31be a fit New York in the NFC East running in the cold up there, physical division.
25:35I don't know that I take him that high, but a back like that up there or up here makes
25:40a lot of sense.
25:41I don't know.
25:42Top of the, I wouldn't take Ollie Gordon at 38 if I'm the Patriots though.
25:46Second round.
25:47That's like Omari and Hampton or one of those Ohio state guys.
25:49And maybe that's even a little early for one of those Ohio state top of the second round
25:52for those guys that we're talking about in the fifties and sixties then maybe, but like
25:56top 40 is what early second round means to me.
26:00That's I don't know that I'm taking anybody unless Gentee is there.
26:05I don't know.
26:06I'm taking any running back in the top 40.
26:07Even Hampton.
26:08I just pulled up the consensus, big board, uh, Hampton's 48.
26:13And then Henderson, 60 Junkins is 63 and Caleb Johnson, Iowa's pegged in between them.
26:1962.
26:20Actually, I could see Cleveland at the top of the second round taking Caleb Johnson,
26:24especially with Stephanski calling plays, they're probably going to want an outside
26:29zone runner.
26:30So Caleb Johnson could be a good fit there, but yeah, I mean, let's see where Ollie Gordon,
26:36they have 95.
26:37So that would be way earlier than the consensus right now.
26:40I don't know the name of the guy that runs that site, but he obviously does a tremendous
26:44job where we're fans of his, um, it gets updated at some point, right?
26:48He's not able to update.
26:49I don't think he updates in real time.
26:50It doesn't look like it.
26:51So usually I look like the Monday or Tuesday after the senior bowl and kind of see how
26:54things have shifted.
26:55It will be really interesting to see it, not just that running back to a number of positions,
26:59kind of where the consensus lies after the senior bowl.
27:03My guess is all the Gordon is going to be higher.
27:06I, that you say I'm like 90 something right now, 95, like, does he get into the top 70?
27:13I could see that.
27:14Yeah.
27:15They had scattered with like four something a month ago, so, because it's not, it's not
27:21a real, it's not somebody watching the players and ranking them.
27:25It's just a consensus from other data.
27:27People's putting out, people are putting out.
27:29So if nobody has any mock drafts with scataboo, like this Kyle Williams is not the 824th best
27:34player in the draft, but if nobody's putting him in mock drafts, then there's no data point
27:39so that he can't be any higher.
27:40So usually, and there's, he puts a disclaimer on there at like earlier in the season that
27:44is not enough information for these to be reliable.
27:47But usually after the senior bowls, when you start to get a better idea of, of where those
27:51guys are like this time last year, I don't even think Jane Daniels, the first round pick
27:55on the consensus board, he was, but he was like low first.
27:58There's actually a, uh, it says last updated 15 hours ago.
28:02So I don't know if that means updates.
28:05Like he might've just updated a position or something like, well, it's also like he needs
28:10more information to, so that, you know, that's off the mock drafts that were put out.
28:16But how many of those were like, they're not including the entire senior bowl.
28:21Cause obviously it's not today's practice.
28:23And if it's 15 hours ago, that might've not even included yesterday's practice either.
28:26So you got to give it a couple of days, but it's, we'll, we'll get the good information
28:31there for sure.
28:32At some point it's coming, it's coming, but, um, any, I guess just end quick offense and
28:40he of the quarterbacks too.
28:41I thought Jalen Milrow was maybe a little bit better today, but it was still a rough
28:45week overall, uh, for those guys, especially, and it, I felt that it hurt the receivers
28:52at times.
28:53I know.
28:54And they, they got to do a better job of getting better quarterbacks next year.
28:56I like, it's tough because it's not a good quarterback class to begin with.
29:00I don't, I shouldn't say they got to get better quarter, but like maybe that's short sighted,
29:05but like, I don't know who else would you want to be there?
29:07That's not their ward and Sanders were never going and all right.
29:13Will Howard.
29:14Cause the national championship wasn't in a go.
29:15That's not their fault.
29:16Although now he needs to calm down, trying to rework the college football calendar for
29:21the senior bowl.
29:22So, um, I don't know who else I needed to see there.
29:26The only, uh, top like 10 quarterback who wasn't at one of the events was Quinn.
29:33You were like disregarding cam ward should door was at the shrine, but it was Quinn yours.
29:37Like that was the only guy left off.
29:39And then Will Howard, who you just said didn't, didn't go cause he was in the national championship.
29:43So there were, there weren't many other options.
29:47Graham Mertz is rehabbing, so he can't be there.
29:50Um, so yeah, they, unfortunately it didn't, didn't really help the receivers.
29:55There were a lot of check downs, a lot of sailed throws and stuff to that factor.
30:00But um, yeah, it was not a good week for, for the quarterbacks there, but, uh, let's
30:06go over.
30:07We talked about the defensive line in the trenches.
30:09So let's talk about the second and third level of the defense.
30:12Uh, but I also want to tell you guys about game time.
30:16We all love going to games live, whether it's, you know, only one more football game

30:36baseball starting up March madness.

31:52Download game time today.
31:53What time is it?
31:55Game time.
31:56All right.
31:57Uh, we'll hit linebackers and then get into the defensive backs, uh, that second level
32:02linebacker units.
32:03Who would you like?
32:05What'd you see?
32:08So I thought, and it's interesting.
32:10They talked about throughout the week, uh, Shemar James is timed as the fastest, like
32:14linebacker.
32:15I was my guy is the fastest linebacker.
32:17And, um, I had heard them say that earlier in the week and I was like, good for him.
32:21I guess I haven't really seen it.
32:23And I don't know how many chances that the linebackers really had to run in a straight
32:26line like that today, red zone, more team.
32:29We got to see more of that unit in Shemar James totally stood, uh, stood out.
32:33He was all over the field.
32:34I think this was a case of like, I don't even want to say you had a bad week until today.
32:39It's just one of those things, like you said, with the running backs, I don't know how many
32:40chances he really had to put himself in the spotlight, just given the drills they were
32:44doing until today.
32:46So got his chance, made the most of it.
32:48Uh, you love to see it.
32:50That's who I had written down.
32:51He, he was really good today.
32:53You saw him a few times around the football and the run game, even though it wasn't, you
32:57know, full contact, but just working through blocks, uh, getting downhill.
33:01So, uh, he, he was impressive, I thought, but hopefully we'll, we'll get a better look
33:07at all these linebackers, uh, with the game, uh, again on Saturday.
33:10So let's go back, uh, to the DBs, any corners or safeties stand out that you identified
33:18throughout the week at corner your guy, uh, as Ray Thomas had another really good day.
33:23And I think kind of locked in Maxwell Harrison was really good too, but I dunno, I don't
33:28think it's, it's unfair to say Thomas was undoubtedly the best corner on the field this
33:32week, which was kind of the projection coming in.
33:34It was him and Trey Amos at the top and Amos unfortunately got hurt.
33:37So you don't want to knock a guy for that, but Thomas was on the field.
33:40He was better.
33:41Um, I thought he was good.
33:42Darian Porter had one really good rep today, but he was inconsistent this week.
33:46He looks pretty raw.
33:48That's one where like, man, if they still had Mike Pellegrino would be a great pick
33:52would make a ton of sense.
33:53We'll see who the new cornerbacks coaches, but, um, I thought my, my big takeaway from
33:58the corners, I would say was, was as Ray Thomas kind of put the bow on what was a really good
34:04week of practices for him.
34:05Yeah.
34:06Yep.
34:07He, you saw what you wanted to see, uh, from him, just the length.
34:09So sticky and man coverage.
34:11He was really good.
34:12Um, a late round guy I thought was, it was pretty good today, Uptown Upton stout from
34:17Western Kentucky.
34:18And you know, that's unfortunately another smaller guy, like you're not going to get
34:23the size.
34:24I think he measured in five, eight, uh, right under one 80.
34:26So looking at a nickel or a slot corner there and you already have Marcus Jones.
34:32So I don't know how much that makes sense, but he was really good and man coverage, especially
34:36today and the last few days and then, uh, safety, maybe one of the plays of the day
34:40with Dan Jackson from Georgia, you know, getting over there to the kind of one of the bigger
34:45hits of the week too, and breaking up a pass, uh, in the end zone.
34:50And he's someone just, you know, you watch a lot of Georgia as a college football fan
34:53and he's always seems to be around the ball making plays.
34:56He is more of that free safety.
34:58I don't know if you like him and that mold moving forward, but
35:01more of a free safety or more of a box safety.
35:04I think he played deep more Georgia, didn't he?
35:06Yeah, but he's not, I don't think he's a deep safety in the NFL.
35:09Okay.
35:10I don't think, do you think he has the speed for that?
35:12I know he made that nice play today, but does he have the range?
35:16I think he can run well, the range, like the transitions and everything.
35:20Maybe, maybe not though.
35:21But I, I, it'll be interesting to see if he runs at pro days or combine what he does run
35:26at.
35:27I'm sure he'll run at the combine.
35:28He seems like a guy that everything I see about him, the questions are about, you know,
35:32athletic upside.
35:33So, you know, if he has it, uh, he played, yeah, he played mostly deep at, at Georgia.
35:39You're right.
35:40I think of him.
35:41I just, cause he's always around the ball.
35:42I think of him as more like a physical player.
35:45Yep.
35:46So anyone else secondary standout or just the guys you've talked about, um, uh, Bowman
35:55had another nice play.
35:56Yeah.
35:57Bowman had another nice pass breakup.
35:59I was pretty impressed with him this week.
36:01I'm hoping to see him continue to build some juices as we go here.
36:06All right.
36:07So, uh, that was day three and kind of recapping all, all three days of practice there.
36:14Uh, I'll just end, is there anyone, you know, you're, you really want to see something from
36:20in the game, you know, on Saturday, a player too, that you're really going to be keeping
36:25an eye on, uh, in actual game action.
36:28Now that we transition over, I obviously the tackles, if they play those top two tackles
36:34or Serene Connerly, cause they're just such key players for the Patriots.
36:37Um, and I, I go back to what I said before though, like the running backs, Ollie Gordon,
36:41I want to see all the Gordon run through somebody's face.
36:45That's that's what I'm most excited for.
36:46And I guess in, in that same vein, the linebackers and, um, you know, let's see if some of the
36:51guys that, that had a little bit of a chance to pop today, if, if they can keep that going
36:56specifically, let's see if like Shemar James can keep it going.
37:00Yeah.
37:01The running backs for me will be the big one.
37:02You know, he mentioned Ollie Gordon, uh, Damian Martinez, Miami and bigger body will
37:08be better than this, even though I thought he had a few good pass pro reps, uh, today.
37:12So just seeing some of those running backs, imagine they're going to run the ball a lot
37:16with these, these quarterbacks and the quarterback play, uh, see how they look at, you know,
37:20full contact, full pads, uh, getting after it in game action bonus, anyone trying bowl
37:25game tonight, anyone in there, we haven't really talked about that, but just anyone
37:29off your head that you have to recalibrate your eyes to watch tonight.
37:34Yeah.
37:35Um, I, I need to do that recalibrating this week.
37:37I was just kind of washing the senior bowl practices and honestly, tomorrow, um, when
37:42there is nothing I was going to go, I was going to watch shrine bowl game tonight and
37:46then go back and see kind of who stood out, uh, in the week of practice.
37:50I'll just give you some of the guys I liked going in the one.
37:52And I actually, in that, that Eric Galko interview, you're mentioning was the first player he
37:56brought up.
37:57Who's definitely a Patriots pick.
37:59We're talking about linebackers needing to stand out, right?
38:02Brian is a Chris Paul from Ole Miss.
38:04I guess he was one of the best players down there this week.
38:07True three down sideline, a sideline coverage backer would be an ideal guy to play next
38:14to joint Bentley in this new kind of more aggressive defense, um, that they want to
38:18see Jabbar Muhammad corner from Oregon is a player I liked.
38:21I kind of hoped would come out last season and didn't, um, I'm looking forward, uh, Nick
38:28Nash has gotten a lot of hype.
38:29He was kind of the big receiver there this week at a San Jose state, the triple crown
38:33winner, former quarterback.
38:34I really like Ricky white too from UNLV.
38:37And I, I apologize if some of these guys aren't playing.
38:39Um, I just, this is from following as far away as I have this week.
38:44Um, and it sounded like Will Shepherd from Colorado had a really good week who, you know,
38:48if the page is trying to get that big, true X would be a guy that fits that role of the
38:52Colorado receivers, Travis Hunter being his own thing, like the Jaunte Wester, uh, Jimmy
38:58Horn jr.
38:59Those are those smaller kind of jitterbug gadgety players.
39:02Will Shepherd to me is the guy if the Patriots are going to take one of these Colorado receivers.
39:07And then the most obvious guy, Afton Chisholm, right?
39:11Well, Eastern, not Western.
39:13I don't know why Eastern, Eastern Washington, you know, Cooper cup.
39:19I mean, it's five to 195 pounds slot receiver.
39:22Where have we seen that before?
39:23I doesn't have the maybe lawn speed, but the short area quickness, just watching some of
39:28the clips, uh, down there from, from the shrine bowl, he's been cooking guys and man coverage.
39:33So who knows?
39:34Maybe that's your next plot.
39:36I'll give you one more main event kind of guy.
39:39You've seen this game produced some of the highest drafted kickers the last few years.
39:43We've talked about neither kicker at the senior bowl, maybe being a Patriots fit.
39:47So if they need a kicker better call Sol's Ben Sol's the kicker from pit, uh, was excellent
39:52from deep this year in kicking in Pittsburgh, like at mostly at that stadium, Akershaw stadium,
39:58Heinz field, which is not an easy stadium to kick at for NFL kickers.
40:02So he had a rough year in 2023, but two strong years around that.
40:07Um, he was six to seven from 40 to 49, uh, or sorry, seven of nine from 40 to 49, six
40:15of seven from 50 plus this year, long 58.
40:18He might be the real deal.
40:20That was when, uh, the Patriots coached it.
40:23We had like Jake Moody MVP game.
40:24Didn't we?
40:25Jake Moody.
40:26Yeah.
40:27They, didn't they win like 12, three or something or 15, three, and he just kicked all the field
40:31goals.
40:32It made so much sense.
40:33And then they picked Chad Ryland from the senior bowl.
40:35So who knows, maybe your next kicker is in one of these games.
40:38So excuse me, we will wrap it up there.
40:41A senior bowl practices in the books.
40:44Uh, we'll be back sometime next week to talk about the game and really put a bow on it.
40:50We might have Taylor, uh, on as well.
40:52I don't know if we're going full crossover with Mike and Taylor or just having Taylor
40:55on, you know, he was down there, uh, this week.
40:58So we will put a bow on everything, talk about the game, uh, at some point next week.
