00:00:00All right, everyone, welcome back into another live edition of the Patriots Beat Podcast
00:00:28here on the CLNS Media Network, presented by our wonderful friends over at PrizePix
00:00:34and GameTime.
00:00:35It's Brian Hines, back as always with Alex Barth.
00:00:37We're trying to time this up perfectly with halftime of the Sugar Bowl, which we pretty
00:00:41much nailed.
00:00:42There's 43 seconds left between Notre Dame and Georgia in the second quarter.
00:00:47We're going to talk about that game.
00:00:48We're going to talk about the three other games from the quarterfinals of the college
00:00:54football playoff, tons of draft prospects.
00:00:57We'll talk about the draft with the Patriots sitting with the number one overall pick entering
00:01:02week 18.
00:01:03But we're going through start.
00:01:05What are we even calling?
00:01:06Are we calling this a football game?
00:01:07Can you call Sunday a football game?
00:01:10I mean, are you using the C word or are you using are we using calamity calamity?
00:01:16I don't know if we can.
00:01:17Well, that was the word, right?
00:01:18That was it.
00:01:19Was it in the Rappaport report?
00:01:20Well, that's what yeah, that's what could happen.
00:01:23I don't know.
00:01:24Could this one even get to calamity status if the bills are playing the back?
00:01:28I thought we were still talking about the Chargers game for some reason.
00:01:30Yeah.
00:01:31Oh no.
00:01:32We're just calling this week 18.
00:01:33We can just call this the NFL and too many teams in the playoffs and playing too many
00:01:37games during the season.
00:01:39That's fair.
00:01:40They set themselves up for this with week 18.
00:01:42So there will be some element of football played at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.
00:01:47It sounds like the bills, the starters will be playing very minimally like Josh Allen.
00:01:54He's got this record or streak of current starts.
00:01:57They want to keep that intact.
00:01:59So he's probably going to be out there, hand the football off for as long as their first
00:02:02drive is and he's going to get out of there.
00:02:04And then most of their, you know, backups, younger players for Buffalo are going to be
00:02:08out there.
00:02:09Patriots.
00:02:10They're saying they want to win this game.
00:02:12Drawed Mayo focus is beating Buffalo.
00:02:14If these guys are healthy, they're going to be out there.
00:02:17That includes Drake May, who has been on the injury report limited with a right hand injury
00:02:22throwing hand.
00:02:23Even though he's looked fine when we saw him, you know, the few days at practice, Joe Milton
00:02:27has taken some first team reps for the first time all year.
00:02:31So it does sound like Drake May is going to start this game, but what would your kind
00:02:36of plan be for the Patriots quarterback room in this game?
00:02:42Are you rolling with Drake May throughout the whole thing or do you want to see a little
00:02:45bit of Joe Milton in the season finale on Sunday?
00:02:49Well, let me start here.
00:02:50I'm glad Drake may starting.
00:02:52I think this is the right decision by the organization.
00:02:54You know why?
00:02:55What do we want?
00:02:56Drake may to be superstar quarterback.
00:02:58What does superstar quarterbacks do?
00:03:01They start games.
00:03:03That's why big part of the reason Jimmy Garoppolo was never one.
00:03:06Cause he had a problem.
00:03:07I don't know.
00:03:08I need to take a shot at Jimmy.
00:03:09He is starting this week.
00:03:10We'll see if he finishes the game, but he's starting this week.
00:03:13Um, no, in all seriousness, like you look at what the bills are doing with Josh Allen,
00:03:17they're starting him because that consecutive game streak means something to him.
00:03:21It means something to them as a franchise.
00:03:23It's certainly something we talked up a lot about with Tom Brady when he was here, Peyton
00:03:27Manning, as in his game started streak.
00:03:30Now look, some of those conversations, Drake may needs to take better care of himself on
00:03:33the field so he can have that streak.
00:03:34But wouldn't it suck if in like five years we have to talk about like, yeah, he started
00:03:38every game since he took over except that one against Buffalo, blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:03:42Right.
00:03:43Wouldn't it just be nice to say that definitively.
00:03:45Look, if it's okay for Josh Allen to do what is Drake Mays too good for that.
00:03:53And when I'm crediting the Buffalo bills and Josh Allen, you know, I feel strongly about
00:03:57this.
00:03:58I'm sorry.
00:03:59I, I, I liked that Drake may starting because it sends the right message to the organization
00:04:03in the league.
00:04:06Drake may is a franchise star quarterback.
00:04:09He's going to be one of the faces of this league.
00:04:11Those guys start games, period, full stop.
00:04:15It's what Josh Allen's doing.
00:04:17And if it's good enough for Josh Allen, it's good enough for Drake may in my mind.
00:04:20That being said, Josh Allen's going to, cause people are probably yelling at me, where are
00:04:24you starting?
00:04:25He's going to get hurt.
00:04:26Josh Allen's going to play three plays.
00:04:27They're all going to be handoffs.
00:04:28He's heading off to the sideline.
00:04:30That's all I would do with Drake may too.
00:04:32I liked that.
00:04:33He's starting for the symbolism of it.
00:04:35I don't need him playing a ton of real football.
00:04:37You want to mix in like a quick throw where, you know, he's getting the ball out of his
00:04:40hand in a second.
00:04:41Fine.
00:04:43I wouldn't put him at any natural risk and then I'd go to.
00:04:46That's exactly what we saw him doing at practice today.
00:04:48They were doing those and it was all three of the quarterbacks, but it was like a catch
00:04:51and immediately throw like a perimeter screen type of thing.
00:04:53So yeah, at that point I'd go to Joe Milton because one, they need to see what they have
00:05:00in Joe Milton.
00:05:01They're going to need a backup quarterback this off season.
00:05:04If you can check that box that he's that guy, boom, you've checked off an off season box
00:05:09before the off season even starts touchdown Notre Dame.
00:05:14If not, you know, you need a quarterback.
00:05:16The other thing is it's a showcase game.
00:05:18I've had a lot of fun this week.
00:05:19Brian talking about Matt Flynn.
00:05:22Now Matt Flynn was a free agent.
00:05:23He wasn't a trade piece, but he got a fat contract that off season didn't amount to
00:05:26anything when he got a fat contract.
00:05:30Let's say Joe Milton goes out and lights it up.
00:05:33Now you can trade him this off season or maybe you keep him as a backup and trade him next
00:05:36off season and he turned that six round pick into a fourth or maybe even a third.
00:05:41There's really no, like I, this should be Joe Milton's game.
00:05:45Drake may should start, but this should be Joe Milton's game.
00:05:47We should see a lot, a lot of Joe Milton in this one.
00:05:50Definitely.
00:05:51Yeah.
00:05:52I treat this almost like a preseason game.
00:05:54Like Drake mays out there.
00:05:55I agree.
00:05:56He should start.
00:05:57I don't need to see much of him, but he should start.
00:05:59That sends the right message.
00:06:00That doesn't look like you're clearly tanking this game and I don't want to say you're tanking
00:06:04because what if Joe Milton goes out there and lights it up?
00:06:07Right.
00:06:08But you do, you do want to find out.
00:06:09Yeah.
00:06:10Let's also not just assume that because Joe Milton's starting, they're going to lose.
00:06:13Like, I mean, they, they could lose outside, like they're deep, like they could get run
00:06:17on for 200 yards.
00:06:18Honestly, the idea, well, the real ideal scenario is they win, but the Browns, Titans, and Giants
00:06:25all win.
00:06:26So they still get the first, that's the real ideal.
00:06:27If we're going to be somewhat realistic, the best case scenario to me is they lose this
00:06:32game.
00:06:33Now, Matt Flynn score 45, 41.
00:06:35Now Matt Flynn won that game and it's a little different because the Packers were in the
00:06:38playoffs, not on the outside looking in, but ideal scenario for me, they lose this 45,
00:06:4441.
00:06:45It means Joe Milton balled out and all this kind of talk we've heard this week about it's
00:06:49lining up for Alex Van Pelt to be the scapegoat and Mayo and Covington might be safer.
00:06:55That's going to be, not that it's not a tough sell now, but that's going to be a really
00:07:00tough sell coming off a 45 to 41 game.
00:07:05Would it change your mind if that, if like you say, that's the ideal scenario, does it
00:07:10change your mind?
00:07:11If then we'd have to listen to people all off season and say, well, maybe they should
00:07:14start Joe Milton next year because of that one game.
00:07:17I mean, that's going to happen.
00:07:19I actually got a call about this on the sports of the other day, like, are you already happy
00:07:23fever?
00:07:24No.
00:07:25Somebody saying, somebody saying they shouldn't start Milton because too many people in this
00:07:27fan base are idiots.
00:07:28Um, no.
00:07:29Cause frankly, if he's that good, they're going to trade them and they're going to get
00:07:33something for him.
00:07:34Yeah.
00:07:35So no, it doesn't worry me.
00:07:36It would be one thing if Drake may have like a, so, so rookie season, but I, I think people
00:07:42like part of the reason zappy fever happened, it wasn't just Bailey's happy.
00:07:45I think people were so desperate for any alternative to mattress, by the way, Bailey's happy is
00:07:49starting this week.
00:07:50How many former Patriots next guys are there?
00:07:54Mac zappy.
00:07:56I was just thinking when we were talking about Jimmy there for a second, our prize picks
00:08:00lineup this week should just be every former Patriots quarterback.
00:08:04You know, it's a shame that they're not going to put Jacoby in.
00:08:07Cause you could have like, what a run you could have of those guys.
00:08:11There's no one else in the league, right?
00:08:15It's playing.
00:08:16I mean, there's like Zach Robinson, Kevin O'Connell, Kevin O'Connell.
00:08:19Yeah.
00:08:20Oh, who's starting in Denver?
00:08:21Oh, they need that game.
00:08:23That's going to be bonus.
00:08:24Still too bad.
00:08:25Stidham would have been something.
00:08:26I could have been stidham.
00:08:27What it said, it would have really fit in there.
00:08:30That would have been a good one, but yeah, I, I would kind of treat this like a preseason
00:08:35game.
00:08:36Drake goes in there.
00:08:37He starts, gets a drive to maybe first quarter.
00:08:40If you want to offer Jacoby the second quarter, like, Hey man, do you want to put any more
00:08:44film on tape?
00:08:45I doubt he would want to do that, but maybe you could offer him that and then turn it
00:08:49over to Joe Milton.
00:08:50Cause you do have to see what you have in him and some live game action.
00:08:54He hasn't taken a live snap since preseason.
00:08:56So get a better read on him.
00:08:58You might either want to trade him, boost the trade value, or he might just want to
00:09:02be your backup quarterback next year.
00:09:04If Jacoby does hit free agency and go elsewhere, but I don't need to see a full game of Drake
00:09:08may I get he's developing, but against the Buffalo backups, what's the most you're going
00:09:13to get from that situation.
00:09:14And then the disaster situation is if he gets hurt and I'm not talking about like rolls
00:09:19an ankle or something minor, anything serious that he has to miss OTAs, or even if it's
00:09:26two months, he can't throw the football or anything that's going to intrude his development.
00:09:31Especially, you know, if Alex van Pelt is not here and he has to learn a new offense
00:09:35and go through all those motions, that's the worst case scenario.
00:09:39And they have to avoid that at all costs.
00:09:41And let me flip that too.
00:09:43Who would you rather they win with?
00:09:45Let's say they win because they are playing to win as they, they like the players and
00:09:49coaches should point of pride playing for future jobs, future contracts.
00:09:53You don't want guys in the building that are okay.
00:09:55Losing.
00:09:56That's obviously important.
00:09:58What would mean more to the organization?
00:10:00A win with Jacoby Brissett or a win with Joe Milton?
00:10:04If it's those two, Joe Milton, probably.
00:10:05Right.
00:10:06Yeah.
00:10:07I'm saying like, if you're not going to play Drake the whole game, it's Joe Milton, a hundred
00:10:09percent.
00:10:10It's Joe Milton.
00:10:12All signs point to Joe Milton should be, should play the majority of this game.
00:10:16Again, I like, I'm not just okay with Drake May starting.
00:10:18I like that Drake May is starting, but that's pretty, I want to see him start to check the
00:10:23box or starting.
00:10:24That's about all I want to see from him.
00:10:26Yep.
00:10:27And it does say, I think listening to Gerard, listening to AVP today, it does maybe seem
00:10:31like that's where it's headed, right?
00:10:33Like they all say Drake starting if he's healthy, they put that caveat on and then he pops up
00:10:37on the injury report and now, you know, you hear Joe Milton taking first team reps in
00:10:43practice too.
00:10:44So I do feel like it's kind of headed that direction that it's going to be Drake out
00:10:47of the gate.
00:10:48And then at some point they turn this thing over to Milton.
00:10:50So we'll see if that's how it ends up unfolding on Sunday.
00:10:54But again, it looks like we might get some Joe Milton for the first time this season
00:10:58in regular season action.
00:11:01We don't really need to break down offense or defense, so let me just kind of open it
00:11:04up big picture.
00:11:06Is there anyone else outside of that quarterback position that you're just kind of intrigued
00:11:12to watch?
00:11:13You know, one more, not really a trial run, but you know, one more run here, live live
00:11:18game action to end the season, offense, defense, just anyone else you're is kind of on your
00:11:23radar and during this one, I don't know, cause they don't have too many pending free agents.
00:11:27I mean, I guess John Jones and Dietrich wise, but those guys are kind of veterans.
00:11:30They are what they are and they've both taken a step back.
00:11:33I think there's a case to be made already that you're not bringing either one of them
00:11:36back.
00:11:37I'd like to say Jalen Polk or Javon Baker.
00:11:39I don't know if either of them are going to play even in this game.
00:11:42Like they probably should, but it, and even so, if one of them has a good game, I guess
00:11:46it's good.
00:11:47You get a little momentum going into 2025, but it's going to undo everything.
00:11:51Jalen Polk, all the issues he had, and now we've talked about them being mental, so maybe
00:11:55it does help, but no, this is really just a get the road kind of game for me, honestly.
00:12:00Yeah.
00:12:01And, uh, I mean, Polk hasn't even practiced.
00:12:03Caden Wallace would be the one.
00:12:05Yeah.
00:12:06Caden Wallace would be the one guy I kind of want to say.
00:12:08Yeah.
00:12:09If he gets, I mean, it was 14 snaps and garbage time last week.
00:12:12So if he gets some notable snaps and now it's not going to be against Sean Miller or Greg
00:12:17Rousseau.
00:12:18Yeah.
00:12:19If he's healthy enough to start, he should start over Trey Jacobs, but, um, yeah, Polk
00:12:22has, uh, he hasn't practiced all week with that shoulder injury, so we might not even
00:12:26see him.
00:12:27That could open the door for Baker to play a little bit, which sure, it'd be intriguing
00:12:33to see a full game snap of, of Jayvon Baker.
00:12:36But what does that remember 2020 like Devin Asiasi had the big touchdown and everyone's
00:12:42like, here we go.
00:12:43We might have a tight end up being like half of his entire career production.
00:12:46Yeah.
00:12:47Well, that was probably like the only touchdown he's ever caught in his, I think he caught
00:12:51one in Cincinnati.
00:12:52Um, let's see, no, he posted two catches for five yards and it was exactly, it was more
00:13:01than half of his production.
00:13:03He ended with four catches for 44 yards and a touchdown in his career.
00:13:06That game was two catches for 39 yards and a touchdown.
00:13:09So that was about 90% of Devin Asiasi's production that came all in that final game in 2020.
00:13:16So that, yeah, that's like, you'd love to see these guys have great games, but at this
00:13:21point one game, like what does it mean for the big picture?
00:13:26Probably not much, but maybe some of those guys like, you know, Leighton Robinson, Alex
00:13:30Austin's a Bolden.
00:13:31Like we have more of a sample size, one good game, even like Alex Austin, if Buffalo's
00:13:36lean and maybe more on Keon Coleman, you know, a young rookie to get more playing time.
00:13:41If he has a good performance, those guys who have a little bit more under their belt, uh,
00:13:45it would be encouraging from those guys.
00:13:48Anything like, is this coaching this last stretch, like, is there anything that you
00:13:55think could decide the fate of the coaching staff in this one?
00:13:59Or was that the Buffalo, the LA, the, you know, those two playoff teams going back to
00:14:05back of those, those were like the last two final tests and that's kind of over and done
00:14:09with nothing.
00:14:10Positive.
00:14:11Look, I think if you get your lunch handed to you by backups, that's certainly not a
00:14:14good sign for coaching staff.
00:14:15That's already on the fence, but I don't know that anybody can save their job this week.
00:14:18Um, I think they can lose it, but I don't think they can save it.
00:14:22Yep.
00:14:23All right.
00:14:24So, or at least they shouldn't like, I, I would hate if they look at a game against,
00:14:29you know, the bill's second unit and say, that's the proof we needed, right.
00:14:33To keep Gerard Mayo.
00:14:34That's the proof we needed to keep Alex van Pelt to Marcus Covington.
00:14:37That that should not be, this game should not be a deciding factor.
00:14:41That's not to say he should have been, the Patriots should have made their decision already.
00:14:44Like take this week, make your decision, think it through.
00:14:47It's not a decision you're just going to make instantly.
00:14:49You got to talk through it.
00:14:50You got to figure out what you're going to do, contingency plans, things like that.
00:14:54But I don't know how much this game should impact, especially for the coaches, maybe
00:14:58for the GM, because it's very different.
00:15:01If you have the first overall pick or the fourth overall pick, like that's an, you're
00:15:04talking about two incredibly different off seasons, the reality of it.
00:15:08Um, but the coaches, I think that the Hayes in the barn there, it's just a matter of the
00:15:12crafts making their decision, which I understand if they're still making, they have time to
00:15:16still make, they really have until.
00:15:19I would say Monday, I think you need to make a decision Monday.
00:15:21I think you need to make the decision public by Monday night, Monday night when we're the
00:15:26other night.
00:15:27Yeah.
00:15:28I think Mayo's staying, we should get one of those statements.
00:15:33That's like, we're, you know, tell us what you're doing.
00:15:35Tell us what you're thinking.
00:15:36Don't let that linger.
00:15:38When was the, the OG original statement, the offensive coordinator and a member was offensive.
00:15:44We're going to do an offensive search.
00:15:46And then Gerard Mayo was staying in the organization.
00:15:49Wasn't that on like a Wednesday, like kind of midweek, maybe, but that like, it wasn't
00:15:54the head coach.
00:15:55Right.
00:15:56Yeah.
00:15:57So, you know, they still had bill Belichick and last year, last year it took a while,
00:16:01but it's bill Belichick.
00:16:02Right.
00:16:03Like you're not just firing any other coach that one took longer for a reason.
00:16:08Yeah.
00:16:09Yeah.
00:16:10So black Monday is when I think you got to decide because you got to get going.
00:16:15Like you, you got to, cause you're going to have to be doing interviews and you can't
00:16:19let other teams get ahead of you.
00:16:21There's some teams that I think have known, well, I mean, there are teams that have known
00:16:24teams that already fired their coaches, the jets, the saints, that they are going to hit
00:16:27the ground rolling and you got to get on that.
00:16:30If you're in, there should be a change.
00:16:33There should be a change.
00:16:34Like maybe it's not Gerard Mayo, but at the coordinator level, I've talked a lot about
00:16:39this.
00:16:40I think there needs to be a new wide receivers coach that is like baseline non-negotiable
00:16:44for me.
00:16:46We'll see if any defensive staffers end up going to Chapel Hill, Mike Pellegrino, Brian
00:16:52Belichick, are those guys going to need to be replaced?
00:16:54Like you got to get going on this ASAP.
00:16:56You can't wait around.
00:16:57Yeah.
00:16:58I mean, we usually get the like end of season press conference from Gerard Monday morning.
00:17:03So maybe we'll get some information then, but yeah, you gotta, you gotta move quick
00:17:08because last year it was kind of a unique situation and they had the, you know, the
00:17:12clause to just promote Gerard Mayo pretty much internally.
00:17:16They didn't have to do this whole big coaching search.
00:17:18So you got to get going if you are going to make some big changes here, which we are expecting
00:17:23something to happen all on this coaching staff.
00:17:26You don't go three and 13, three and 14, whatever it ends up being and just running everything
00:17:31back.
00:17:32So we'll see.
00:17:33But any last thoughts on this Bill's at Patriots game?
00:17:37Can they, can they lose to a Mitch Trubisky led backup Buffalo Bills team?
00:17:42This defense?
00:17:43Absolutely.
00:17:44Yeah.
00:17:45They almost lost to Mitch last year when he was with Pittsburgh.
00:17:48So they did.
00:17:49You're right.
00:17:50Maybe, maybe he's got some magic left in him, but, um, we can't, because of all the uncertainty,
00:17:56we can't do a Patriots Bill's prize picks lineup currently, but if we want to go through,
00:18:02they don't have Drake May on there.
00:18:04Not yet.
00:18:05So, but I don't, they don't have anything for that game.
00:18:08No, it's, it's literally nothing yet for that game.
00:18:10All right.
00:18:11Let's go through.
00:18:12We got Mack Jones.
00:18:13We can look at some, uh, Patriots backup quarterbacks, and then maybe we can throw something together
00:18:19before the game and tweet it out.
00:18:21So we do have, uh, Mack Jones.
00:18:24He's got one line or projection 209 and a half passing yards at home against the Colts.
00:18:31Do you like more or less there?
00:18:33I think Colts are going to be, I think you're gonna get an angry Colts team that coming
00:18:36off that loss and motivated Colts team.
00:18:38I might take less there.
00:18:39But then again, he has been kind of playing well.
00:18:43The defense did get shredded by, uh, that's true.
00:18:47They got shredded by true law, true lock.
00:18:50Let me see.
00:18:51Only Mack Jones option.
00:18:52Yeah.
00:18:53What's Mack been throwing lately?
00:18:56I think he's been right around that number.
00:18:57I know.
00:18:58Uh, player stats, Mack Jones game log.
00:19:03So we went one 74 last week, but the four games before that, it was two 47.
00:19:10Two 94, two 20 and two 35.
00:19:11So he's been over and two out of the four out of the last five.
00:19:14Is Brian Thomas jr.
00:19:15Playing?
00:19:16I believe so.
00:19:17I don't know if they would probably gets over with Brian Thomas.
00:19:21So all right, we'll do more than 209 and a half.
00:19:26This is the good one.
00:19:27Jimmy Garoppolo last first started, I mean more than more than half of the interception.
00:19:36He's got does he play long enough to throw a pick 198 and a half pass yards more or less
00:19:43than that or more.
00:19:45You're not going to do more than one and a half pass touchdowns.
00:19:48You're definitely not going to do that one.
00:19:49So you're between 198 and a half pass yards or half an interception.
00:19:53Why not less on touchdowns?
00:19:55They don't have that.
00:19:56It's one and a half.
00:19:58So it's like the boost.
00:19:59So you can only go more.
00:20:00Oh, okay.
00:20:01All right.
00:20:03How many years was it half or one and a half?
00:20:07Just half.
00:20:08So you'd only have to throw one.
00:20:09Yeah.
00:20:10He'll probably throw a pick.
00:20:11I would say so.
00:20:12Seattle.
00:20:13They're not, they're not playing for anything, but they're probably playing, uh, their starters
00:20:17here.
00:20:18I don't know if they'll have, they don't have Bailey's happy yet.
00:20:20Yeah.
00:20:21That just got announced today.
00:20:22Just, he just got announced.
00:20:23So was there anything for the, um, the, who are they playing?
00:20:28The Steelers defense?
00:20:29Oh yeah.
00:20:30Let me see if, uh, I don't know if they do like full defensive projections, uh, nausea,
00:20:40Harris, Pat Fryer, Ruth, Russell Wilson.
00:20:43Now nothing, nothing for Steelers defense yet.
00:20:46I guess we can't do that then.
00:20:49No other former players.
00:20:50We like Patriots players.
00:20:52I mean for quarterbacks, not really.
00:20:55Um, let me pull up the schedule.
00:20:57Oh, I mean, is Juju going to play a lot with the chiefs backups?
00:21:01Oh, maybe they kind of need him.
00:21:04He's kind of important player for them though.
00:21:06They don't even have a projection for how about, uh, say, Kwan's not playing.
00:21:13We know that.
00:21:14Um, I'm trying to, I guess we probably should take something in Vikings lions, right?
00:21:22That's a big game.
00:21:23Just cause it's a big game.
00:21:25Yeah.
00:21:27Kevin O'Connell too fits the fits the mold.
00:21:30That's true.
00:21:31Yeah.
00:21:32That's true.
00:21:33Um, Justin Jefferson, are we thinking quarterbacks only?
00:21:38Yeah.
00:21:39Let's keep that a theme.
00:21:40All right.
00:21:41So Sam Darnold, he's got 11 and a half rush yards, 280 and a half pass yards, two and
00:21:50a half touchdowns, more or more than half a rush plus receiving touchdown.
00:21:57That's a lot of yards.
00:21:58Then again, the lion's defense has not been playing well.
00:22:00Yeah.
00:22:01They've been getting shredded.
00:22:02Should we go more on that?
00:22:06Two 80 and a half or 11 and a half rush yards.
00:22:08Has he been running the D I mean, that doesn't run a ton.
00:22:10I don't pick that can only, that can only be one scramble, but like still have less
00:22:16on that.
00:22:17It would have to be one run, right?
00:22:19Let's pull up Sam Darnold's game log here.
00:22:22Um, yeah, he's got 11, the last month he's got 11 yards once on the dot.
00:22:31So, so do we want to say less than less than the rush yards or more than the pass yards?
00:22:37Let's do less than the rush yards.
00:22:38Less than the rush yards.
00:22:39All right.
00:22:40I have like a 50 yard touchdown.
00:22:41I got one more for you for keeping it with Patriots, former backup quarterbacks.
00:22:46Why don't we do the Falcons and Zach Robinson?
00:22:49True.
00:22:50Michael panics.
00:22:51Good to get.
00:22:52Yeah.
00:22:53What do we have for panics?
00:22:54Uh, and I know, I think we need one more after this, right?
00:22:55I know we can close it with, well, this would be four.
00:22:59So we could hold two spots and update it with Bailey's happy and no, I got, I got one more.
00:23:04I want to do on the Patriots quarterback team, but let's figure this out first.
00:23:08Panics is 222 and a half pass yards or one and a half pass touchdowns more or less.
00:23:17They're going to be thrown in the red zone.
00:23:18I like this.
00:23:19A big game.
00:23:20Yeah.
00:23:21You know, this is a big game for them.
00:23:22Let's go pass yards, pass yards more than 200.
00:23:23Yeah.
00:23:24More.
00:23:25Yeah.
00:23:26All right.
00:23:27And who's the last one you got here?
00:23:28Do we want to include the Raiders for Brady or do we just want to keep it to backups?
00:23:33We could.
00:23:34Yeah.
00:23:35Cause we want to leave one spot open for Zappy.
00:23:37Oh, and you want to leave one spot open for the Patriots game.
00:23:40Do you want to leave one open for the page?
00:23:41We probably should leave one open for the Patriots game, right?
00:23:44But we're not going to be able to do a quarterback cause like they might not even put numbers
00:23:48up.
00:23:49Yeah.
00:23:50That's also true.
00:23:51All right.
00:23:52So let's get Brady in here.
00:23:53Aiden O'Connell.
00:23:54Yeah.
00:23:55Um, he's got one, one projection up 226 and a half pass yards at home against the Los
00:24:04Angeles chargers who aren't playing for seeding.
00:24:08Are they locked into their seed?
00:24:09I think so.
00:24:11Uh, let me see here.
00:24:12Or it wouldn't be a major shift for them one way or another.
00:24:15So 200.
00:24:16Yeah.
00:24:17But it's Harbaugh.
00:24:18So I could still see them going like full go.
00:24:19Going all out.
00:24:20So 226 and a half pass yards for Aiden O'Connell.
00:24:24I might go less on that.
00:24:25He's really kind of falling off here late in the season.
00:24:28Yeah.
00:24:29All right.
00:24:30They are.
00:24:31Yeah.
00:24:32They're playing for seed.
00:24:33I mean, maybe I, it depends what happens Saturday.
00:24:35All right.
00:24:37No, I think they'll be playing for seeding no matter what.
00:24:39All right.
00:24:41So we'll go less than that.
00:24:42Good chargers defense as we saw firsthand last year.
00:24:45Uh, so we got five picks in right now.
00:24:48We'll update it with Bailey's happy.
00:24:50So we have the full Patriots backup quarterback lineup, whatever you want to call it.
00:24:56And that includes Mack Jones, more than 209 and a half pass yards, Jimmy Garoppolo, more
00:25:01than half an interception, Sam Darnold coached by Kevin O'Connell, less than 11 and a half
00:25:06rush yards.
00:25:07Michael Pennix coached by Zach Robinson, more than 222 and a half pass yards in Aiden O'Connell,
00:25:13whose team is minority owned by Tom Brady, less than 226 and a half passing yards.
00:25:19We'll add Bailey's happy.
00:25:20We'll tweet that out on, he plays Saturday.
00:25:23So we'll tweet that out on Saturday.
00:25:25Um, if you don't want to include zappy and just want to do those five on Sunday, right
00:25:30now it's a 15 time multiplier.
00:25:34So a $20 entry fee wins 300.
00:25:37You can use the code CLNS to get $50 instantly after you play your first $5 lineup.
00:25:45So if you want to put just $5 on that hand, you win 75 and then you get the $50 instantly.
00:25:51If you want to put 50, you win 750 and we do have our line of protection, get four or
00:25:57five correct picks and you get your money back.
00:25:59We'll see what the odds probably will go up to 25 X when we put Bailey's happy in there,
00:26:04but that will be our Patriots backup quarterback lineup.
00:26:08Again, we'll tweet that out.
00:26:09If you guys want to play along with us, you can download price picks and use code CLNS
00:26:15to get $50 instantly after you play your first $5 lineup again, code CLNS to get $50 instantly
00:26:21after you play your first $5 lineup on price picks where you can win up to 1000 times your
00:26:27money all season long, even in the playoffs, uh, tons of playoff action, even though the
00:26:32Patriots won't be included going forward and make sure you guys run your game on price
00:26:37picks all season long.
00:26:39All right.
00:26:40That was fun.
00:26:41Good, good.
00:26:42Patriots backup, backup quarterback talk right there.
00:26:45Wait a way to put a lineup together there with no Patriots here's, uh, even on the app.
00:26:50So let's, uh, let's talk some college football.
00:26:52Let's, let's talk some draft Patriots still in the number one overall pick a loss this
00:26:57week secures that.
00:26:59Um, and we had three college football games over the past few days started with Penn Penn
00:27:07state Boise state was the first one Penn state.
00:27:10We finally got some competitive games, which, which was nice until that Rose bowl yesterday.
00:27:15But, uh, Penn state Boise state, have you recovered from Ashton Gente getting, getting
00:27:21kind of shut down there against one of the first, I mean, he had a hundred yards against
00:27:24one of the best defensive fronts in college football.
00:27:26And I was saying all year to people who were like, Oh, well, you know, how much is he really
00:27:30doing?
00:27:31It's bad opponents.
00:27:32You know, it seems like he always has room.
00:27:34He was making room.
00:27:35The crazy thing about Ashton Gente, usually when a, when a running back's elite, the offensive
00:27:40lines elite that Boise offensive line wasn't even just finally, that was a bad line.
00:27:45He had a hundred yards, but I think it was like 80 something after contact, uh, his contact
00:27:50balance is still elite.
00:27:51I thought he was fine for what that game was.
00:27:53You also had Penn state King in on him.
00:27:54I mean, they, they wanted Maddox Madden throwing the box, right?
00:27:58Every single snap.
00:27:59And I will say I, before he got hurt, um, Abdul Carter was awesome.
00:28:05He has that, that left tackle and hell, like he started the game with a mean bull rush.
00:28:11He put the guy, I thought he was going to fall on his ass.
00:28:14And then he comes back with, you know, the, the swim move around the edge.
00:28:17And then the clip that was going all over Twitter yesterday where he's pulling around
00:28:21on the stunt, like that dude has some juice.
00:28:24He is awesome.
00:28:25I, he, he's definitely, you know, if you're talking, I don't know about first overall,
00:28:29but if you're sliding back to maybe the giants in that four range, like he is definitely
00:28:34someone that we're going to be talking a lot about.
00:28:37And, you know, with our mock drafts, probably picking a couple of times in that range.
00:28:41Cause he, he's an awesome pass rusher.
00:28:43Yeah.
00:28:44He, he's definitely going to be in the conversation for the Patriots and he'll have another chance
00:28:48their face.
00:28:49Uh, they get the winner of this game now, right?
00:28:53I believe so.
00:28:54Yeah.
00:28:55Yeah.
00:28:56They'll get this game.
00:28:57This will be, uh, there'll be another good test form.
00:29:01Yep.
00:29:02If he plays, hopefully has there been an injury update on any, you haven't seen one.
00:29:06I feel like every Calvin Banks got hurt too.
00:29:07Like I feel like all the top guys are getting hurt.
00:29:10And it was, I mean, it wasn't in the, the playoff, but the bowl game, Jahad Campbell
00:29:14got hurt.
00:29:15Like it was him and Abdul Carter the same day they both left with like a wrap on their
00:29:18left shoulder.
00:29:19So hopefully nothing.
00:29:20Yeah.
00:29:21I haven't seen an injury update, but hopefully nothing serious.
00:29:22And we get, uh, some more Abdul Carter in the playoff because he, he is very fun, uh,
00:29:28to watch the other big Penn state guy who I feel like it's been making some rounds in
00:29:32Patriots, Twitter draft world, Tyler Warren, their tight end.
00:29:36Another good game.
00:29:37Are you interested?
00:29:38Maybe, you know, you can't get the wide receiver you want.
00:29:42So you say, okay, well, we're going to get maybe the best pass catcher available whenever
00:29:46that pick is.
00:29:47And it ends up being a tight end and Tyler Warren, is that something that, that interests
00:29:51you with?
00:29:52You know, he's maybe the best tight end in this class.
00:29:54Yeah.
00:29:55I, I mean, like he interests me as a player.
00:29:58I think he's a really good player.
00:29:59I think he's a really good prospect.
00:30:00I'm a big fan of his, as I've said, I don't really want them.
00:30:05Their big addition is a pass catcher coming through the draft.
00:30:07I want it to be a veteran.
00:30:08Now, if they add a guy like DK Metcalf or D Higgins, I could maybe be swayed.
00:30:12But the other thing is, I just don't know how the Patriots end up with him because I
00:30:17think he's going to be a top 20 pick.
00:30:19I think he's going to go in somewhere in that 15 to 20 range.
00:30:21So you're not trading down that far from one shouldn't be trading down that far from one,
00:30:27but that's also a pretty sizable move up from 34, 35, 36, whatever it ends up being.
00:30:33So I just don't see how they, how they land them.
00:30:36He's just not really in their range unless they're, they get like insanely creative.
00:30:41So love the player.
00:30:43I not totally getting my hopes up for him with the Patriots though, because I, it's
00:30:48tough to see how that one happens.
00:30:50Yeah.
00:30:51Cause he might go like middle of the, like a lot of teams look at it, the Colts right
00:30:54around like 12, 13, and then the chargers who are going to be a little lower, but you're
00:30:59going to have to move up like maybe mid, like that late teens or, you know, mid teens to
00:31:05get them.
00:31:06That's probably in a spot where you're gonna have to give up a future first to do that.
00:31:11And if you're moving down, that's like, are you going to turn around and basically give
00:31:15out your whole hall to move back up and get Tyler Warren?
00:31:19Like that's, I don't know if you're going to, if you're going to pull that.
00:31:23So again, great player.
00:31:25Like I would love him if he falls to like 34 or whatever it is.
00:31:28I would be all in on him, but it does seem like he's in kind of a weird range right now
00:31:34for the Patriots.
00:31:35So we'll see what that, did anything else from that kind of that Penn state game kind
00:31:40of kind of stand out to you, or if you want to transition to the games we saw yesterday
00:31:45with Texas, Arizona state camp scataboo, and then the Rose bowl, Ohio state, Oregon.
00:31:50Yeah.
00:31:51I think we can, we can move on to that.
00:31:54So are you all scataboot up or what's going on?
00:31:57I want him here.
00:31:58I want him here.
00:32:01I now look obviously realistic.
00:32:05Yeah.
00:32:07I'm not reaching for him and he's a guy that may be the, uh, you know, one of the Harbaugh's
00:32:17or Dan Campbell jumps up into the top 100 to get, because it's their kind of guy, but
00:32:21the Patriots need edge.
00:32:23They need that kind of old school mentality.
00:32:27I don't think he's a lead back, but I think he can be a good spell back, a good goal line
00:32:31short yardage back where they've obviously struggled to run the ball this year.
00:32:34Probably guys going to have some special teams upside as well, and just going to be
00:32:37a core member of the locker room.
00:32:39So I loved what I saw from him.
00:32:41He, that, you know, he's 23 years old.
00:32:44He doesn't have that elite elite athleticism and it's a deep running back class.
00:32:48So that, you know, puts a cap on him as a prospect, but there's certain guys you look
00:32:52at and it's just like, I'll find a role for that guy, get him on my team because he's
00:32:56going to add an intangible that is valuable.
00:32:59And he's one of those guys to me.
00:33:00Where do you think he's going to go?
00:33:03Early day three, or will he sneak into end of day two?
00:33:09Uh, no, I think I, I think his, maybe he sneaks into the end of day two again.
00:33:14If like one of the Harbaugh's sees it and gets all excited.
00:33:16But I, my guess is he's somewhere like fourth, fifth round.
00:33:21That's probably where he should go.
00:33:22Yeah.
00:33:23It reminds me, we were talking about this in the locker room, like tip Raymond last
00:33:26year, right?
00:33:27The tight end from Illinois who.
00:33:29Just subjectively looking at the film, like blocking tight end, pretty raw, not
00:33:35going to contribute much on offense, but he has good combine.
00:33:38You hear people rave about, you know, how he is a teammate like that.
00:33:42And then suddenly Seattle jumps up and takes them like in the seventies.
00:33:45We thought he was going to go like 50 picks after that.
00:33:47So maybe it's something like that, but it's going to be about
00:33:51the intangibles with him.
00:33:52It's going to be about how well he interviews.
00:33:54There there's a lot to like on tape, but he doesn't have the athleticism.
00:33:58I think teams are going to look for in a top 100 running back.
00:34:00Yeah.
00:34:01He seems like it will be a really good number two and like a compliment.
00:34:04The like, if you told me Dan Campbell took him and then in one year or, you
00:34:09know, he replaces David Montgomery as like the compliment to Jameer Gibbs,
00:34:13like more of that bruiser downhill.
00:34:14Like that feels like a perfect kind of thing.
00:34:19He's a pretty good pass catcher too.
00:34:20He could be used in like a, um, use check type role.
00:34:26So this is kind of a weird comp.
00:34:27Obviously everybody has the Mike all side cock.
00:34:29Keep in mind.
00:34:30Like he does look like Mike all start when he runs, he's, you know,
00:34:33thick low to the ground at the contact balances off the charts.
00:34:37Like visually he looks like Mike all start when he runs.
00:34:40Keep in mind, he's like three inches and I think 40 pounds
00:34:42lighter than Mike Allstott was.
00:34:44If I'm remembering correctly.
00:34:46Yeah.
00:34:46Mike Allstott was a tank dude.
00:34:48Um, so scataboo, like last year, the coaches told him he had to lose weight
00:34:54and that if he wanted to be a part of the offense, he had to get in better shape.
00:34:57So he's listed at five 11 to 15.
00:35:00He's probably bigger than that.
00:35:02He looks bigger than two 15.
00:35:04Definitely.
00:35:05Mike Allstott was six, one, two 50.
00:35:09He's not, he's not two 50.
00:35:11He's definitely not two 50.
00:35:12So I'm going to give you a, another, uh, body type, another comp, and it's
00:35:17not the same body type again, but I just, I kind of see some similarities.
00:35:23How about Mike Tolbert?
00:35:24Who was five, nine, two 60.
00:35:27Mike Tolbert was a tank, but like he could sneak and catch the ball a little
00:35:31bit, good change of pace back kind of pain in the ass to tackle Mike Tolbert
00:35:36caught 54 passes in 2011 and they had the, uh, who was their compliment to him?
00:35:41Uh, William, something Williams, D'Angelo Williams, Angelo Williams,
00:35:45like the little speedy back, right?
00:35:46Like who you can get on the outside.
00:35:49Like that's kind of feels like the role you can pair him
00:35:51with kind of a speedier back.
00:35:53So, and they had him with Ryan Williams in San Diego.
00:35:55So exactly.
00:35:57So not Ryan was Ryan Matthews, Ryan Matthews.
00:36:00I thought he was going to be awesome.
00:36:01Ryan Matthews.
00:36:03So that that's, I get the Allstock comp.
00:36:05I see where that's coming from.
00:36:06I hold Mike Allstott in too high regard to just comp
00:36:09random college players to him.
00:36:11That's like, if you listen to catch 22, Evan won't compare anybody to Mike
00:36:14Evans cause he thinks it's unfair to Mike Evans.
00:36:17That's kind of how I am with Mike Allstott.
00:36:19I'm not going to just compare anybody to Mike.
00:36:20I'm not comparing anybody to Buccaneers players named Mike, but yeah, I, that
00:36:25it more of a Mike Tolbert kind of thing for me.
00:36:29I like it.
00:36:29I like it.
00:36:30Um, anything with Texas?
00:36:33I mean, you mentioned Calvin Banks got hurt.
00:36:35I thought banks played a good game.
00:36:36I, he came back a little shaky after the injury, but I thought for the most part,
00:36:41I liked what I saw from him.
00:36:42Um, I know, I don't, where were you on Isaiah Bond?
00:36:46Were you in on him or no?
00:36:48Not especially.
00:36:50So I was out on Isaiah.
00:36:52Yeah.
00:36:53I wasn't completely out, but he wasn't, you know, I just think
00:36:56we just did Taekwon Thornton.
00:36:57Right.
00:36:58Why do that again?
00:36:59Matthew is Matthew Golden, the better prospect.
00:37:02He's not rated high right now, but I think I like Matthew Golden
00:37:05better than I like Isaiah Bond.
00:37:07Yeah.
00:37:07I like him have that.
00:37:09Yeah.
00:37:09He doesn't have that elite level speed bond does, but he does so many other
00:37:13things, better, better route runner, better at the catch point he's bigger.
00:37:16Like he's, he's not big, but like he's six foot one 95.
00:37:20He's not a guy you're going to have questions about him
00:37:22holding up physically in the NFL.
00:37:24So we'll see if he comes out.
00:37:25He's a junior.
00:37:26If he stays, he's probably a first round pick next year.
00:37:29This year, he may end up being day two, early day three.
00:37:33So he's, he's a guy like he could go either way.
00:37:35Really?
00:37:35I'm on the fence with that.
00:37:36But if he comes out, like that's a guy you take him at the top of the fourth
00:37:40round, I think that could be a really good pick for the Patriots.
00:37:43Yeah.
00:37:43And you can move them around.
00:37:45Like you're, he's probably not going to live on the outside, but he can,
00:37:48he can play the outside.
00:37:49You can move them inside.
00:37:50He can be a Z and what their system is.
00:37:53Yeah.
00:37:54A hundred percent.
00:37:54Definitely.
00:37:55So, I mean, he put up like one 60 against Georgia in the, was that, that
00:38:00wasn't the sec championship, right?
00:38:01That was there.
00:38:03He did big game in both of them.
00:38:05Didn't he?
00:38:05Um, that might've been the sec championship one 60 against Georgia.
00:38:10And then they had like one 50 in the game time touchdown and overtime
00:38:15yesterday against Arizona state.
00:38:17And now he's going to get Ohio state so he can keep building this resume.
00:38:20And yeah, yeah.
00:38:21I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to come out and he's a top, you
00:38:24know, seven, eight receiver.
00:38:26If he keeps, uh, playing like this.
00:38:28Oh, we didn't mention this with.
00:38:30Oh, you can go.
00:38:31I was going to say, I like Gunner Helm too for the Patriots.
00:38:33Yeah.
00:38:33Day three tight end.
00:38:34He's a good player.
00:38:35Uh, we didn't mention that with Penn state.
00:38:38Do you think drew drew hour is going to come out if he keeps this kind of surge up?
00:38:44He might, I like with him and I I've given this take with will Howard, like
00:38:50some team just looks the part, right?
00:38:53Central casting quarterback is going to talk to themselves in him.
00:38:56The jets talking themselves into will Howard in the top five would be just so
00:39:00jets hours, a little hour as more upside.
00:39:04I don't think his floor is as high right now.
00:39:06I still re that was the first time I've seen him like make plays in a big game.
00:39:12He's really bad when Ohio state went to Penn state this year.
00:39:15Now look, I'm generally not championship.
00:39:17The big 10 championship.
00:39:19Sure.
00:39:19I'm generally a little more.
00:39:22Uneasy with those kinds of quarterbacks, Drake may being an exception.
00:39:26Um, but I don't think he's nearly as polished as Drake may was.
00:39:29And he's older than like, if you're going to be that kind of player, I
00:39:33need to see more polish at a certain age.
00:39:35And he doesn't have that.
00:39:37He's kind of like a worse Anthony Richardson to me.
00:39:40Now there's obviously a skillset there that NFL teams covet next
00:39:45year's quarterback classes.
00:39:47Gunner, uh, not Gunner arch Manning aside next year's quarterbacks
00:39:51class is worse than this one.
00:39:54So there's definitely incentive for Aller to stay if he gets a
00:39:57good deal from Penn state to stay.
00:39:59Uh, but if he comes out, he's probably a late first, early
00:40:02second round pick kind of guy.
00:40:04I don't think he impacts the first overall pick trait.
00:40:07Maybe if the Patriots want to move back from like 33, 34, then you
00:40:12start talking about true Aller, you know, kind of a will Levis kind of move.
00:40:15That's another good comp for, uh, Aller, but I don't think he's
00:40:19in like the top 10 conversation.
00:40:21There's just not enough good football on tape with him yet.
00:40:24Well, I'd imagine if he comes out, it's cause he has a great game
00:40:28against like Notre Dame and then in the national championship,
00:40:31he has a really good game.
00:40:32So, uh, I don't know.
00:40:34I could see like, he'd probably be QB three in this class.
00:40:37If he came out, but behind Shador and Tim Ward, like, uh, he's better
00:40:42than who's QB three right now.
00:40:44Jalen Milrow, who just declared today after a really bad bowl game.
00:40:50Like, I mean, maybe like he'd have, he has to have those games though.
00:40:55Yeah.
00:40:55So that's what I'm saying.
00:40:56Like if he comes out, it's probably cause he said he's going to go back to school.
00:41:01So I'm thinking if he comes out, it's after he has to write more good
00:41:06games of college football, and then
00:41:08it means he got information that he's going to go higher than Dylan.
00:41:13Gabriel might be the next quarterback, but I don't know.
00:41:16After that game the other day, it's crazy what happens when you're an
00:41:20Oregon quarterback and he can't throw two yard checkdowns every play.
00:41:23Or when they just, the defense plays a really good safety over the middle
00:41:26of the field and takes away all your little RPO offense stuff.
00:41:30That's another way.
00:41:31We'll get to, or we can get to the Rose bowl.
00:41:33Now, Ohio state's two best NFL prospects are not draft eligible.
00:41:39That's as good as that team is.
00:41:41Like, obviously Jeremiah Smith and Evans, I'm going to have to make sure like
00:41:46Evan doesn't drool when he talks about Jeremiah, did he compare him to Julio?
00:41:50Was he doing the Julio?
00:41:51Cause you can't compare anyone to Mike Evans and then turn around.
00:41:56Or maybe Jeremiah Smith is a little different because he is a freak,
00:41:59but yeah, that's kind of what he said.
00:42:01Not comparing anyone to Mike Evans and then comparing someone to Julio
00:42:04Jones is a lot, but Jeremiah Smith, if anyone is going to get those
00:42:07comparisons, like he might, I'm trying to remember what it was lofty, but
00:42:12it wasn't Julio Mike Evans.
00:42:14It was like a step below that.
00:42:15Um, a recent player.
00:42:18Yeah, I think so.
00:42:20Um, but on it, so if you'll allow me to look ahead, 20, 26 big board for
00:42:25the Patriots, and hopefully not, they're not picking this high, but if they
00:42:29are, uh, 20, 26 big board at the top for me, for the Patriots, Caleb downs.
00:42:33Yep.
00:42:34A hundred percent that guy in this defense.
00:42:38Yeah, he was awesome yesterday.
00:42:40He really just single-handedly took away like everything
00:42:44over the middle of the field.
00:42:45And Dylan Gabriel, well, I think because of that, Dylan Gabriel started not
00:42:49seeing the field gray as the game went on and started bailing and now Ryan
00:42:52Sawyer's in the backfield and all these sacks, like it was a mess for that
00:42:56offense.
00:42:57And, uh, I just blanked on his name.
00:43:00What was the safety Caleb downs?
00:43:03Caleb downs was a big reason, uh, because of that.
00:43:06So he would be an awesome fit.
00:43:08You know, if you look next year, way ahead, you can start getting out of that
00:43:12Kyle Duggar contract, Gabriel peppers might not be around anymore.
00:43:16So he, he'll be at the top of the list.
00:43:18And then if we can just start trading down now, so we can get all the 20, 27
00:43:22first-round picks and either get Jeremiah Smith or throw Ryan Williams into that
00:43:26mix, the Bama receiver, who's only 17, like fantastic, great, great move.
00:43:32If you want to do that.
00:43:32So those two guys are unbelievable talents.
00:43:36Yeah, that, that, that team's unreal.
00:43:38And Ryan day just kind of remembering he has good players.
00:43:42Crazy.
00:43:42What that does with Jeremiah Smith, have two targets in the first
00:43:44half of the Michigan game.
00:43:46Um, and now he's out there, you know, making, I, I was floored seeing him
00:43:51out coach Dan Lanning, but as I've said, in relation to the Patriots quite a bit.
00:43:56And I think it's more true at the NFL level than it is at the college level.
00:43:59But we saw this yesterday.
00:44:01Good roster.
00:44:02Trump's all you have a good roster.
00:44:04You're going to be in great shape and Ohio state is the best
00:44:06roster in college football.
00:44:08Yep.
00:44:08Well, how about the, uh, receiver who might actually be on the Patriots
00:44:11radar this year, a Mecca Abuka, who I've loved him for a long time.
00:44:16He's been at Ohio state for a long time, but he's always been in the shadow of
00:44:20Marvin Harrison jr.
00:44:22Or now Jeremiah Smith, but he's just always kind of there in that number two role.
00:44:27He's always very consistent, kind of has a little bit of that, you know, JSN,
00:44:31another former Ohio state receiver who he came after.
00:44:33So are you liking a Mecca Abuka as maybe someone who's false to you at the top of
00:44:39the second round, or maybe, you know, you get a little aggressive and move up to
00:44:42get him late in the first round there.
00:44:44First off Evans, a cop was Jamar, uh, Jamar chase.
00:44:48For Jeremiah, no, for Jeremiah.
00:44:51Okay.
00:44:52Okay.
00:44:52He said Jeremiah is bigger, but they move the same way, which, yeah, I could see
00:44:55that.
00:44:56Yeah.
00:44:56Movement wise.
00:44:57Definitely.
00:44:58Yeah.
00:44:58Uh, I was like, honestly, my call for him is like a better version of what
00:45:03Jalen Polk was supposed to be.
00:45:06He's a chain moving Z receiver.
00:45:08I guess JSN would be another comp that feels a little lazy.
00:45:12Um, I'll say the same thing I said about Matthew golden.
00:45:14I think he's a better player than Matthew golden, but it's kind of the same idea.
00:45:18If the Patriots go out and get DK Metcalf or T Higgins, and then you're adding this
00:45:22rookie with coverage protection.
00:45:24Yeah.
00:45:24I think it book is for what he is, is a, is a good player.
00:45:27I think he's definitely a better player than Polk.
00:45:29You're probably going to end up getting them about the same range, oddly enough,
00:45:32but as a better player than Polk for that role.
00:45:35And I know he's second round pick, but foot Jalen Polk showed this year, I've
00:45:39no qualms drafting his replacement a year in.
00:45:42Um, but if he's there, if he's their biggest edition at receiver, they didn't do
00:45:47enough because the other, the, the one thing that bothers me about a book, he's
00:45:51a chain mover, he's not explosive.
00:45:53He's not a big play generator.
00:45:55They have Hunter Henry who can move the chains.
00:45:58They have pop Douglas who in theory should be able to move the change.
00:46:00Maybe, maybe not as high of a level, but they can do that.
00:46:04Antonio Gibson in the past game can be a chain mover.
00:46:06They need a big play threat and a book is not that he's good at what he does.
00:46:14But for their big wide receiver edition, the Patriots need to aim a little
00:46:18higher than what egg making book.
00:46:20It does.
00:46:20I'd say the same thing for golden too.
00:46:21I know I just raved about him and I'm done dumping all over this guy.
00:46:24It's the same thing.
00:46:25I mean, golden is more of a big play threat, but it's that you need a guy
00:46:29that's been there proven.
00:46:30He can do it and, and, and has done it in this league.
00:46:34And if you want to add a rookie to that, fine, but that can't be
00:46:37their only wide receiver edition.
00:46:40I think he can be a big play threat.
00:46:41He's just not like, he's not the most explosive player.
00:46:45And I know we just said he's not the most explosive and he's kind of like
00:46:49Jalen Polk, which is going to scare everyone.
00:46:51Now he's more explosive than Jalen Paul.
00:46:53He's more exposed than Paul, but no, they need like get open much better.
00:46:57Like he is, he can separate.
00:46:59He's not playing through contact.
00:47:01Like he can separate.
00:47:03He he's a little bit more explosive, but you know, he's, he is kind of like
00:47:07this physical Z receiver, which is like this JS set.
00:47:12Does JSN create big plays because JSN creates big plays or does JSN
00:47:15create big plays?
00:47:16Cause teams are worried about DK Metcalf on the other side.
00:47:18Yeah, I agree with you there.
00:47:20Like if you get a book, uh, you need the guy on the outside who now you're
00:47:24seeing with Seattle, like, are they playing a bunch of, are they playing
00:47:28their safety over DK Metcalf?
00:47:29And that's opening up the middle of the field for JSN.
00:47:32So if you get your guy, if it's T Higgins on the outside, and now you
00:47:36have a book in the middle, like, I think that would be like that.
00:47:38You can sell me on that, but you can't tell me a book alone is going to fix
00:47:42their passing game.
00:47:43Cause he's not, yeah, a hundred percent, but I don't know if there's it.
00:47:46I frankly, I don't think there's any player in this draft.
00:47:49That's going to single-handedly fix their passing game.
00:47:53No, probably not.
00:47:54No, it's, it's, it's T Higgins and DK Metcalf.
00:47:57Those are the guys that are going to fix it.
00:47:59And then you add those other guys in to help.
00:48:01Yeah.
00:48:02But, um, honestly, you know, who fixes their past game the most is Kelvin
00:48:05Banks, cause you actually have time for routes to develop down the field
00:48:08to throw the ball.
00:48:09Yeah.
00:48:09Right.
00:48:10But, um, anything else?
00:48:13Ohio state, Oregon.
00:48:14I didn't really get the game on.
00:48:17Yeah.
00:48:18Something as a brutal drop by Georgia.
00:48:22That was an all time right now.
00:48:24You might be a little ahead of me.
00:48:27Let's see.
00:48:28That hurts.
00:48:29As somebody who's a Georgia minus two and a half, that hurts.
00:48:31Great podcasting right here, but let's.
00:48:34Fake it.
00:48:35Gunner Stockton dropped.
00:48:37Oh, he's going deep, deep.
00:48:40Oh, that was really bad.
00:48:44That was really bad.
00:48:45Oh, it says it's always more fun to do the show when there's a game on.
00:48:48Yeah.
00:48:49That bell he's draftable too, isn't he?
00:48:52Or is he next year after that?
00:48:53I don't know.
00:48:54Yeah, after that, probably not, but Pat, oh, that's a great catch.
00:49:00Was it value you're ahead?
00:49:02No, it wasn't Bell.
00:49:03It wasn't Bell somebody else.
00:49:05But, um, uh, Rose bowl, anything else?
00:49:09I didn't really get to single out Josh Connerly, the Oregon left tackle who
00:49:13that's going to be someone else we're talking about their second pick.
00:49:16Uh, we'll have a lot of film to watch when we go back.
00:49:20Cause they threw the ball 40 yards.
00:49:23Ooh, that was a good catch.
00:49:24But, um, don't, don't sleep on those Ohio state running backs.
00:49:29I still think running back's a need for the Patriots.
00:49:33Judkins might go too high for them.
00:49:35Travion Henderson would be, would be cool player for them to pick up.
00:49:39I think he could do some stuff for them.
00:49:40So, um, they both had good games.
00:49:44Obviously don't, don't sleep on those running backs.
00:49:47That'd be my take.
00:49:48Oh, and I think at this point, Ryan day's job is safe.
00:49:50So the Brian heartline pipe dream is over at least for this year.
00:49:55Damn West Walker.
00:49:56It is West Walker.
00:49:57It is.
00:49:57I take West Walker.
00:49:58I would absolutely take West.
00:49:59Well, they need new wide receivers coach.
00:50:01I'd absolutely take West Walker, West Walker, Chad O'Shea.
00:50:04That's probably what we're talking about.
00:50:05Realistically.
00:50:06I wonder if Welker, you know, Miami, like if Tyree kills starting to get older
00:50:12and he hints at retirement, I feel like on Twitter every day, like I wonder if
00:50:16Welker, uh, maybe is ready to get out of there soon anyway, so that would be,
00:50:21that would be interesting.
00:50:22Last, uh, college football playoff thing.
00:50:24I, I have to ask you and kind of relevant for the Patriots because
00:50:28they might be in the market.
00:50:29Rough day, rough couple of days for the kicker.
00:50:33Joe Dallas, not great.
00:50:35We all saw our Auburn yesterday and the Texas game just missing all
00:50:39of the kicks down the stretch.
00:50:41Uh, whatever SAR told them before he went out there did not work at all.
00:50:47Any, uh, kicker takes there.
00:50:49Cause it wasn't a good day from maybe two.
00:50:51Uh, were they two of the, the two top kickers entering the drafts?
00:50:56There's not a ton of consensus on the kickers.
00:50:58It usually isn't at this point.
00:50:59That'll come later on.
00:51:00Um, they were two of my top kickers.
00:51:03I'll tell you that Dalmas, especially because for the Patriots kicking out in
00:51:07the cold, up in, you know, the Rockies and in the mountain West, uh, I liked it.
00:51:11I never really liked bird Auburn to begin with.
00:51:14Um, but yeah, they're, they're up there and there's not that many kickers
00:51:18with experience in inclement weather.
00:51:19I mean, Dominic Zavada is going back to school.
00:51:22The other top kickers looking at the board, Florida state, Texas,
00:51:24Florida state, Texas, A&M Clemson, Auburn.
00:51:27You do have a Virginia tech guy.
00:51:29Uh, the Patriots already have two Virginia tech kickers.
00:51:31Could make it a third in John love, Texas, uh, North Carolina, A&T and old miss.
00:51:37So if you want to, uh, inclement weather kicker, you're probably going to have
00:51:41to go to the free agency market.
00:51:44We're doing kickers again, baby.
00:51:46We are doing kickers again.
00:51:48Fun stuff.
00:51:49It does feel like it.
00:51:50Yep.
00:51:51Um, all right.
00:51:53Anything else from the, uh, college football playoff or any other number
00:51:58one, overall draft pick takes, you haven't been able to get off your
00:52:01chest on any of the, like 12 shows.
00:52:05Yeah, just the big picture take, and we didn't really touch on it.
00:52:07Exactly.
00:52:09I don't think the Patriots need the first overall pick to have the
00:52:12off season they have to have this year.
00:52:14It'd be nice.
00:52:15It would help.
00:52:16They don't need it with the first overall pick is really about as 2026
00:52:19because the first thing you should be asking for the Patriots, the
00:52:23non-starter for me with any deal.
00:52:24And I know people are down on this draft class and maybe we'll
00:52:26get less than people think.
00:52:28But you should be getting a first rounder in 2026.
00:52:32That's non-negotiable.
00:52:34Even if that's the whole trade, we're going to flip first and I'm
00:52:36going to get your first next year.
00:52:38I might do that at that.
00:52:39Like, that's enough for me to get it done.
00:52:41I'd like more, but let's say you're moving down to four or five.
00:52:44If it's just a future first, I would probably do that.
00:52:48This is about the 2026 off season.
00:52:51And, and that's, that's the value of that pick for me.
00:52:55Um, but I think they should be looking to trade down, get what you can get.
00:53:01I think they're going to get more than people think.
00:53:02It may not be as much as, you know, the Panthers got, or it may not
00:53:06be as much as the bears got.
00:53:08I would also note that that year they moved down to nine.
00:53:10I would not move down that far from the Patriots and obviously, you know,
00:53:14moving to four or five is a lot different than moving to nine.
00:53:16You're going to get less, but it's all about the future assets
00:53:19that that's what this is about.
00:53:22Is it crazy?
00:53:23And I agree with you, like, obviously the number one pick is ideal
00:53:27because it gives you more options and avenues that you can explore,
00:53:31but you want to get future assets.
00:53:33Is it crazy?
00:53:34Like if a team's hesitant to give up a 2026 to ask 2026 first to ask for a
00:53:412027 first with those receivers in mind, or are we just getting way ahead of
00:53:45ourselves at that point?
00:53:47It's not a bad idea, but if you're Elliot Wolfe and you don't know where
00:53:51your job security's at, there's a real chance you're not making that pick.
00:53:55And you may say, no, I need things that will help me in the shorter term.
00:53:59Um, you know, maybe if they move on from Elliot Wolfe and it's a new GM,
00:54:02it's another story there, but I wouldn't hate that.
00:54:07I also don't think that that is something that they would be interested in.
00:54:11Ideally, it would be like, like if you go to the giants and say, you
00:54:15give me four, you give me 39 or whatever their second pick is.
00:54:18And then if they're like, okay, we don't want to give you our 2026 first, but
00:54:23maybe we'll throw in our 2027 first.
00:54:26Right?
00:54:26So now you're getting to maybe 40 picks.
00:54:29I like if it's the giants on the phone, I'm picking up the phone and just
00:54:34playing the clip of Joe Shane last year, not giving up any more for Drake May.
00:54:38And look, the Patriots were right to just hang up the phone and
00:54:41not try out that negotiation.
00:54:42They absolutely were.
00:54:43But that clip, when, when, when they do the obituary on Joe Shane's
00:54:47career in probably a couple of days, if we're being honest, the, the, the
00:54:51obituary is going to be the Saquon Barkley clip and then that, and also
00:54:55that's why no team should ever do off season, hard knocks, that was brutal.
00:54:59But like, I would be all right.
00:55:01You didn't give us enough last year.
00:55:04You know, your guy didn't give us enough last year and it cost him his job.
00:55:08We're not, we're not Tate.
00:55:10We're not going to be low balled.
00:55:12You want to save your job, prove it.
00:55:14That would be, and I would say the same to any other team.
00:55:17Look at what happened in New York last year.
00:55:19Look at the cost of not making this deal.
00:55:23The it's a rare thing with quarterbacks.
00:55:26There is a cost in not making a trade as much as there is in making it.
00:55:31And I would remind teams of that.
00:55:33If I'm the Patriots, I would be front of mind.
00:55:35Do you want your future?
00:55:37Yes or no.
00:55:38Next year's class sucks.
00:55:40You still going to be around in 2027 to draft your quarterback?
00:55:44Or do you want to, you know, you believe in cam ward, you believe in
00:55:47Shadur Sanders, come get them.
00:55:48That kind of thing.
00:55:50So I went on a bigger rant about this on, on catch 22 that I'm trying to
00:55:54remember some of, but you are a reasonable person, Brian, and you're
00:55:57not giving me the pushback I need to get there, which I say complimentary.
00:56:01Um, you're not thinking that JJ McCarthy with a bum knee is somehow
00:56:05worth more than the Shadur Sanders.
00:56:07Uh, but I don't be interested in what he goes for.
00:56:10So I know Schefter said a first plus, I think you might give up a first for JJ.
00:56:16But, uh, I, it depends on the first, like if it's the giants, it's probably just
00:56:21that if we're talking about, if you're later on, right, the saints are sitting
00:56:25there at 10, now it's probably first plus, um, if I'm the Patriots, I, now
00:56:30you want to move the first, this is not a draft night trade.
00:56:34You want to get this done?
00:56:36If not, this is probably agency very early in free agency.
00:56:40I was going to say probably like a week or two in the free agency, because
00:56:43some of, one of these teams is probably going to take a shot on if Sam
00:56:48Darnold hits the open market, or they're going to try to find their next Sam
00:56:51Darnold's that's where this is.
00:56:53Like, we're really going to be able to narrow down some of these trade
00:56:56down teams who say, okay, Sam Darnold goes to the giants.
00:57:00Who else has even out there?
00:57:01Justin Fields goes to the Raiders.
00:57:02They're going to try this.
00:57:03And now we say, okay, well, the jets need a quarterback and
00:57:07the Titans need a quarterback.
00:57:08They didn't get a veteran.
00:57:09So you're going to be able to kind of narrow it down.
00:57:11And then maybe, hopefully those teams get a little bit more aggressive.
00:57:15And that's when you get this bidding war where, you know, hopefully
00:57:18they like Shador Sanders and they like Ken Ward enough where they
00:57:21want to bid and they get up there.
00:57:23And maybe these GMs say, okay, we miss Sam Darnold in the open market.
00:57:27Now we have to do something.
00:57:29We have to pivot.
00:57:30And that's when we get aggressive.
00:57:31And that's when we get getting team stupid.
00:57:33And that's where hopefully all of these future picks come
00:57:36calling in on Elliot Wolf's phone.
00:57:37Yeah.
00:57:38That's why, like I I'd wait and, and especially let, let the
00:57:41Vikings make their decision first.
00:57:42Cause that's going to dictate a lot of the market.
00:57:44Let's let the, let JJ McCarthy get traded or Sam Darnold signed.
00:57:48And then I'd look to move that pick after that.
00:57:50Yep.
00:57:51I was trying to look up.
00:57:52Do you remember when the bears traded with the Panthers?
00:57:55It was right around free agency.
00:57:57Uh, March, March, March 10th.
00:58:00So yeah, that's right before pretty much right, right.
00:58:03Well, like, you know, like what the, we know what the combine is like those
00:58:05conversations are going to be had at the combine, so it's going to, you're
00:58:08probably looking at, you know, within a month of that, definitely.
00:58:12All right.
00:58:13So we, I think that will do it again.

00:59:29Our last game preview of the season.
00:59:32Thank you guys for following along with us.
00:59:35Uh, hopefully we can get a little bit better game previews to
00:59:38look forward to next year, but our next show will be the off season.

00:59:47and exciting off season, uh, for the Patriots.
00:59:50So we will be back next week.
