00:00:00All right, welcome in crossover episode week one Patriots beat Patriots daily Alex Barth
00:00:07Taylor Kyle's Brian Hines, Mike Catholic with you.
00:00:10We made a joke when camp ended.
00:00:12We were saying, ah, you know, we don't know when we're going to do these crossover episodes,
00:00:15how often we'll do them during the season.
00:00:17And I think I made the joke.
00:00:18Well, we could do them after wins, but then we'd only do three or four.
00:00:22But here we are after.
00:00:23And by the way, that won't be the plan.
00:00:24They're going to be kind of intermittent.
00:00:26They'll be more regular than that, but we always planned to do one here.
00:00:29But hey, we get to do it after a win.
00:00:31So that's pretty cool.
00:00:32Certainly a lot to, to break down from that game, a lot to get into.
00:00:35I feel like week one is generally one of the more fun games to react to because you have
00:00:41all these questions that build over the really over the spring and over the summer.
00:00:46And then you project this one game is the answer to all those questions, which sometimes
00:00:50is the case.
00:00:51Sometimes it isn't.
00:00:52And obviously this off season, especially there were a ton of questions with the new
00:00:56coaching staff, new front office, all of that.
00:00:58So I guess my opening taken and we can start here, guys, just the reaction to the beginning
00:01:03of the Gerard Mayo era, what, what it looked like on the field from a coaching point of
00:01:09view.
00:01:10And I would say that the coaching staff passed their first test.
00:01:12Now, some of the stuff I'm going to say is a low bar to clear, but after one penalty
00:01:16on the opening kickoff, which you like roll your eyes and you're like, Oh boy, here we
00:01:19go again.
00:01:20I'm really clean operation.
00:01:23Guys got in and out of the huddle.
00:01:24They got the play calls in.
00:01:26You didn't seem to have too many procedural issues, anything, at least nothing that stuck
00:01:30out that you could see from the exterior.
00:01:32I'm sure they have things they want to clean up here or there, but it's not even at times
00:01:35this summer we saw they couldn't get lined up.
00:01:37They couldn't get substitutions done.
00:01:40You know, a ton of penalties and joint practices and preseason games, but if it felt like the
00:01:45whole operation itself went smoothly and I don't know, maybe I'm, I'm not giving them
00:01:51enough credit or I wasn't giving them enough credit going in, but Taylor, I feel like they,
00:01:56they definitely checked that box and that was encouraging for me to see.
00:01:59Yeah.
00:02:00The biggest thing that I wanted to see from them was that discipline and playing clean
00:02:03football.
00:02:04And I emphasize that, like, we know there's going to be issues.
00:02:07We didn't think the offense was going to be even close to perfect.
00:02:09I think we expected the defense to be good.
00:02:11The special teams we were hoping would be decent and ended up making an impact play,
00:02:16which was awesome.
00:02:17Jeremy Springer era starting off on a great foot.
00:02:19But I mentioned like the penalties, especially for the offense, like there were definitely
00:02:23some penalties that could get cleared up, but the offense had the very low false start,
00:02:27which honestly I didn't give him a lot of crap for because he came off the bench.
00:02:30The crowd was roaring by the time he got in there.
00:02:33So I was like, you know what, as long as it's mid drive too, wasn't it?
00:02:36Right.
00:02:37It was.
00:02:38Yeah.
00:02:39That's the worst mistake.
00:02:40Like you take that.
00:02:41Exactly.
00:02:42Then David Andrews, a legal man downfield where he kind of joked about it.
00:02:43I think he was kind of like, I didn't even realize I was downfield.
00:02:46And then there was one more, a member of the third offensive penalty.
00:02:50Um, sorry, I can't remember, but if anybody remembers, let me know.
00:02:55But the fact that you can't remember is kind of the point.
00:02:57It wasn't that much.
00:02:58Because that shoot those two penalties.
00:03:00I don't think I'll forget those for the rest of my life.
00:03:02So I don't think anybody will let me forget them for the rest of my life.
00:03:06Every time he does anything, I get tweets about it now.
00:03:08Yeah.
00:03:09So that was a little bit more under control.
00:03:11I thought the turnovers now, obviously they got lucky where Mondrey Stevenson fumbled
00:03:15almost had a crippling sense of deja vu from that.
00:03:18But Jacoby Berset making, you know, a not wise decision to try to chuck it up to Hunter
00:03:22Henry off his back foot, things you got to clean up for sure.
00:03:25And I'm sure we'll get into Jacoby Berset, but I think this was a great way to start
00:03:29off.
00:03:30Obviously they won plenty to clean up once again.
00:03:32But I really liked what I saw from them for the most part, especially from a discipline
00:03:36and clean football perspective.
00:03:37Brian, real quick, before we go to you as a good point, it was a delay, a game that
00:03:40the third penalty was a delay game that they was intentional on purpose, right?
00:03:44For the punt.
00:03:45So very, very clean game in that sense by the offense.
00:03:47Brian.
00:03:48I just thought Mayo had them ready to go like as a whole.
00:03:52And that's credit to him.
00:03:53We talked so much about in the summer, how hard they really pushed them, right?
00:03:57Lots of padded practices later in the day, it was hotter live tackling.
00:04:01They only missed three tackles where Cincinnati missed, I think it was like 1213.
00:04:05We heard Zach Taylor say a lot how bad that cost them the game.
00:04:09So hand on remandering alone.
00:04:10So yeah, so they were ready to go in that area.
00:04:13I thought they were well coached.
00:04:16You know, elsewhere helped Alex Van Pelt was familiar going against Cincinnati seemed
00:04:20like they had a really good game plan.
00:04:21They stuck to they executed.
00:04:23We even heard, you know, Mayo told us yesterday, guys were going down the sideline, but in
00:04:27the fourth quarter saying, take him to the hill, take him to the hill, right?
00:04:30Because they'd end every practice on the conditioning hill.
00:04:33So those guys were pumped up.
00:04:34They were ready to go.
00:04:35And it sounds small, but those things really matter.
00:04:38Like in these early games where you could see Cincinnati was a team that didn't play
00:04:42their guys a lot in the preseason, and they kind of looked like that.
00:04:45And, you know, the Patriots, they played their guys in the preseason.
00:04:47They had those long training camp practices, and they were ready to go.
00:04:50And it makes a difference in a game like this.
00:04:52Mike.
00:04:53Yeah, it was super impressive.
00:04:54Again, we've mentioned Mayo three or four times now, but the fact that they were able
00:04:57to come out and actually execute the game plan that they set out in their first game,
00:05:04just like that to a T was was really, really impressive.
00:05:08We talked to Keon White, I think mentioned it after the game when on Devon Godshaw's
00:05:12podcast, they were like, we'll run through a brick wall for this guy.
00:05:15And I think that that helps the fact that he's been through this and he knows, I guess,
00:05:19what it takes to not only play in the league, but now coaching the league.
00:05:22And so he's been able to to mend that fence pretty good here so far.
00:05:26It's obviously early and we'll get into it more.
00:05:29I don't know how many games you're going to win in the NFL scoring 16 points, but it was
00:05:32enough on Sunday.
00:05:34And I think that's what matters.
00:05:35And, you know, Bill Belichick, they've always talked about Jabril Peppers actually talked
00:05:38about it last year in the locker room where Bill Belichick would outline a game plan.
00:05:45And they would say, this is what it takes to win.
00:05:46And this is what you have to do to execute it.
00:05:47And last year, they weren't executing it, but they knew what they had to do.
00:05:50Gerard Mayo did the same thing this year and they actually got it done.
00:05:53So again, super impressive.
00:05:54Good start.
00:05:55We'll see what happens here.
00:05:56But again, as of right now for them to and you saw shots in the locker room to like Gerard
00:06:01Mayo, I still think of him as someone who's sort of a like a younger guy and he is he's
00:06:07obviously one of the younger head coach in the NFL, but he commands that team and they
00:06:10respect him.
00:06:11So it's not just like he's one of their peers because he's close to them in age, but he
00:06:15also demands a certain respect as a head coach.
00:06:18And I think that's impressive.
00:06:20There's early on in his career.
00:06:21So again, want to know good start.
00:06:23We'll see what happens.
00:06:24But it's a good, good way to start the Mayo era for sure.
00:06:26And really quickly, Mike, to build off that point, it's about finding ways to win games.
00:06:30I think Kyle Duggar said that.
00:06:32And that really is the big thing.
00:06:33Like for Andre Stevenson mentioned towards the end of the game, he told Alex Van Pelt,
00:06:37I don't think we need to go outside zone.
00:06:38I think we should stick with duo.
00:06:41It just kept getting remanded.
00:06:42Stevenson matched up against the cornerbacks who had no intention of tackling him, whether
00:06:46they wanted to or not.
00:06:47It wasn't happening.
00:06:48So that's what it is.
00:06:49Week in and week out.
00:06:50Find your strengths the way that, you know, halftime adjustments, whatever, what your
00:06:54strength is, lean on that and have that be the way that you win games.
00:06:57So that's a great point.
00:06:58It's just you got to figure out week to week, but hopefully they can have more answers in
00:07:01the passing attack moving forward.
00:07:02Yeah, it almost felt like there's that popular meme.
00:07:05I know it's big in baseball.
00:07:06It's like whenever the Dodgers lose in the playoffs, it will be like, you know, the Dodgers
00:07:10in their $500 million payroll against Team X and the power of friendship.
00:07:14And I don't know how, you know, not quite to that extent, but it definitely felt like
00:07:19there was, it was more than the X's and O's yesterday.
00:07:24And there was just more effort.
00:07:25There's more want to from the Patriots, especially on the defensive side of ball and how far
00:07:32can that connect carry you to a Superbowl?
00:07:34Just want to, I don't know, but can it help you punch above your weight class, which this
00:07:38team is going to need to do this year?
00:07:40Yes, absolutely.
00:07:41I think you saw another example of it last night.
00:07:44The Jets kind of spent all off season getting anointed.
00:07:47They brought in all this talent.
00:07:48Oh, we're getting Aaron Rodgers back.
00:07:49It's our time.
00:07:50You know, we should have had it last year, but now's our chance to come back.
00:07:53And they played like a team that kind of just expected the game to be one for them.
00:07:58And that's the flip side of it.
00:08:00So I, I think it is something the Patriots can lean on this year, but let's get into
00:08:04some of these X's and O's.
00:08:06We could start on the offense.
00:08:08Let's start.
00:08:09Let's start with good search.
00:08:10Good.
00:08:11Grimandre Stevenson looked as dominant as explosive had as much burst as I've seen from
00:08:17him in a long time.
00:08:18I'm going to take a little bit of victory lap here.
00:08:21Look what happens when the guy has some rest.
00:08:23Now that was naturally built in rest because he hadn't played since week 12 of last year,
00:08:27but this is the kind of player he can be.
00:08:29And Gerard Mayo talked about it after the game's underrated running back.
00:08:32He's the kind of guy that can carry an offense and that's part of the reason they want to
00:08:36be a run heavy.
00:08:37118.
00:08:38It was 120 yards came after contact.
00:08:40That being said, 28, 28 touches is a lot.
00:08:44Yeah, it's a lot.
00:08:46And I don't know that if he does that every week, one, if he does every week, he's probably
00:08:49not going to make it to the end of the season.
00:08:51Even if he does, you're going to see an impact.
00:08:53So I know Antonio Gibson was a little banged up coming into this game.
00:08:56This is also just part of my take about why you kind of want to be careful with your moderate
00:09:02Stevenson's usage are there are some games where you're just going to kind of want to
00:09:05ride him to the finish.
00:09:06And this was one of those games.
00:09:08Week one, new coach, you got an opponent on the ropes like, yes, this was the game where
00:09:13you just put the ball in his hands and tell him to put the team on his back.
00:09:18Do they counter that next week with more Antonio Gibson?
00:09:21I'm going to be curious to see that, but this is that game is, is one why I didn't have
00:09:27a problem with the remandering Stevenson contract in two, why I think they do need to be careful
00:09:32with his usage because when he is on his game, you see the kind of difference he can
00:09:37make.
00:09:38Brian.
00:09:39Yeah.
00:09:40He looked like 2022 remandering for most of that game and, you know, 118 after yards after
00:09:45contact 10 missed tackles.
00:09:47Like it was from the first play of the game.
00:09:49Like he breaks one outside, just the contact balance, the vision, the quick feet.
00:09:53Like he, that was one of the best games for Mondays probably had here.
00:09:57And then like icing the game at the end, everyone knows they're going to run it and he's breaking
00:10:02tackles, going downhill.
00:10:03Like that was just an awesome, awesome performance from remandering Stevenson, the exact same
00:10:08play four times.
00:10:09So I want to do a better job of like balancing it out now, because I know sometimes we'd
00:10:15get to the end of the line and Brian's just sitting there like, well, you guys said everything.
00:10:18So I'm gonna try and do a better job mixing it up.
00:10:20Mike.
00:10:21Love it.
00:10:22I was going to interrupt earlier when you were talking about the usage rate, cause that's
00:10:24been your big thing with remandering for the last couple of years now, Alex is okay.
00:10:27Sure.
00:10:28He runs 25 for a buck 20 and a touchdown in week one.
00:10:32Is that sustainable for 17 games?
00:10:33And the easy answer is no, but if that's how you're going to win football games and that's
00:10:37the recipe you need, how do you balance, I guess, keeping the load off of him versus
00:10:43needing to use it?
00:10:44Like, again, you, you mentioned it.
00:10:45We're going to get to that.
00:10:46Yeah.
00:10:47There's going to be games.
00:10:48Cause there's going to be games where you have to do what you did yesterday or on Sunday
00:10:51and, and not, um, I guess not, not ride the wave or whatever, but I'm interested to see
00:10:56how they, how they manage that going forward.
00:10:59But again, for week one, for the game plan, they wanted to run.
00:11:02And I was listening to Jacoby reset over again on WEI yesterday.
00:11:06He mentioned the same thing I was talking about before that, that pepper said, said
00:11:09about bill, where it was cool to see Gerard Mayo and company and coaches lay out that
00:11:14this is how we're going to beat the Bengals.
00:11:16And if this is how we do it, that's, we're going to win the game.
00:11:20And they did exactly that.
00:11:21And it had to, it was remandering and it was against that, um, that subpar run defense
00:11:26against the Bengals that was now, uh, without, uh, who they're DJ reader who left for Detroit
00:11:32this off season.
00:11:33And, and they, they stuck to their guns, they ran it through and it was successful.
00:11:36So, um, again, huge, huge props to remandering.
00:11:40And they've mentioned, it was talked about that he was someone who Gerard Mayo kind of
00:11:45called out and was like, we're going to need you, you need to do this, let's get it done.
00:11:49And it's exactly what happened.
00:11:50So super impressive.
00:11:52that a guy who was solid for, you know, the first couple of weeks of the season last year
00:11:57and into midway through gets hurt, disappointing last season for everyone.
00:12:00He comes back, gets paid and balls out.
00:12:03So good stuff from the running back department.
00:12:05It was, uh, no, no complaints from Andre at all.
00:12:07Yeah, no, but I agree.
00:12:09He needs more help from the passing attack.
00:12:11He needs more help from his fellow running backs.
00:12:13Now, Antonio Gibson was dealing with a hip injury this week that probably had something
00:12:16to do with him.
00:12:17Not really mixing it as much as we may have expected.
00:12:19And remandering mentioned, they also have to Michael hasty.
00:12:22They also have Kevin Harris.
00:12:23Now to Michael hasty is more of like a third down kind of scat back sort of dude.
00:12:27You don't really want him to be the guy who's handling, you know, a lot of those downhill
00:12:30concepts.
00:12:32That's more Kevin Harris.
00:12:33Um, I also wonder if in this game plan, obviously we know they wanted to run the ball, but I
00:12:37wonder if they thought that we're going to run it quite that much because they didn't
00:12:40activate Kevin Harris.
00:12:41Um, and then Antonio Gibson was hurt.
00:12:43I thought that was kind of funky, but it's also week one.
00:12:45If you're like, Hey, we got to lean on you now, but you know, in the future we'll try
00:12:48to take a load off.
00:12:49I get that.
00:12:50I am very nervous about, you know, that approach if he does end up being, obviously he's the
00:12:54bell cow, but 2022, that PTSD of him being their only weapon is very scary.
00:13:00And at times on Sunday, he did look like the only real threat they had on offense.
00:13:04But yeah, for the most part, uh, I was okay with the plan because they did what they needed
00:13:08to do to come out with a win.
00:13:10All right.
00:13:11Uh, so Mike kind of talked about it there.
00:13:12How do you maintain this level of impact from laundries?
00:13:16Stephen, so much.
00:13:17You're probably going to have to do without running him into the ground.
00:13:19I do want to touch on that.
00:13:21It does relate to this game, but first let's hear from our friends at where we're going
00:13:25first.
00:13:26We'll go prospects, prospects.
00:13:27We'll talk about prospects because, uh, although I did go one and two on the weekend with my
00:13:32CLNS prospects plays, two of them were negated by a T Higgins injury.
00:13:37That's me.
00:13:38Is it not?
00:13:39Oh, sorry.
00:13:40Do that again.
00:13:41Hang on.
00:13:42Almost had it.
00:13:44We have to go into this one first and then hit it.
00:13:47Why does this not work for us?
00:13:50This is great.
00:13:51We tested it.
00:13:52I know.
00:13:53We just did it.
00:13:54We just did it.
00:13:55Guys.
00:13:56I think it's all its fault.
00:13:57I'm going to make, I want to make this right.
00:13:58So we're going to give it two seconds.
00:14:00Okay.
00:14:01Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do you definitely need that one where we're all on the side?
00:14:08It's supposed to automatically.
00:14:09They're up.
00:14:10Oh, I thought we had it.
00:14:12Someone asked in the chat.
00:14:13Someone asked in the chat if this is live.
00:14:15This is definitely live.
00:14:16This is definitely live.
00:14:17Amit's back there.
00:14:18Tell Amit to do it.
00:14:19Amit.
00:14:20Hey, Mercy.
00:14:21Amit, get back here and play our, play our read.
00:14:27Come on.
00:14:28Well, I guess, what the heck?
00:14:37There it is.
00:14:38There we go.
00:14:39Yay.
00:14:40Okay.
00:14:41So we had two of them this weekend, like I mentioned, but two of them negated by injuries
00:14:43because T Higgins didn't play against the Patriots and Christian McCaffrey.
00:14:47That was a, a fantasy nightmare for him to not be able to play.
00:14:52But prize picks is America's number one daily fantasy sports app with over 5 million active
00:14:56members.
00:14:57And it is the easiest and most exciting way to play daily fantasy sports.
00:15:01Unlike the other apps on prize picks, it's just you against the numbers.
00:15:05You pick two, you pick more or less on two to six players have projections and the winnings
00:15:09just roll in.
00:15:11So again, we've talked about it.
00:15:12We tweeted about it for the weekend, but right now on prize picks through the entire month
00:15:16of September, one Caleb Williams passing yard gets you a win on prize picks.
00:15:19So you use that for one to your two to six, it makes it that much easier to win some money.
00:15:25Prize picks is the best way to get the action, to get in on the action in most States, including
00:15:29California, Texas, and Georgia.
00:15:32And it is a only real money daily fantasy platform with injury insurance.
00:15:36So again, even though I didn't technically win those plays from the weekend, they, uh,
00:15:41they were injury insured.
00:15:42So props to prize picks for that prize picks puts their numbers first, their members first,
00:15:46all withdrawals are fast, safe, and secure.
00:15:48And when your picks it, you get your money as soon as within 15 minutes.
00:15:53So we're going to have a ton of plays again throughout the weekend, Thursday night, Sunday,
00:15:56Sunday night, Monday night.
00:15:57So make sure you follow along and download the prize picks apps today.
00:16:00Use code CLNS, play for yourself, get 50 bucks instantly when you play $5.
00:16:05That's code CLNS on prize picks to get $50 instantly.
00:16:09When you play five bucks, you don't even need to win to receive the $50 bonus.
00:16:13It is guaranteed prize picks, run your game.
00:16:15All right.
00:16:16Who, who actually got that to work?
00:16:18So we know for next time, cause we've got to do two more of those, but, uh, I don't
00:16:22know.
00:16:23All right.
00:16:24I'm guessing it was all at homage.
00:16:25Just be ready next time.
00:16:26All right.
00:16:27Anyway, where are we back where we were?
00:16:28So how do you continue to be as effective in the run game without running remodeling?
00:16:35Stevenson in the ground starts up front, starts with the offensive line.
00:16:39I know Gerard Mayo came out the other day and talked about how impressive the offensive
00:16:42line was.
00:16:43I, I, I'm not necessarily saying he was wrong, but 120 yards, 118 after contact, like remodeling,
00:16:52Stevenson did not have many clean handoffs.
00:16:53We'll get to the pass blocking a second.
00:16:55Taylor, you look ready to say something here, but
00:16:57for that narrative, you allow him to get further up the field.
00:17:00My point, you allow him to get further up the field before he said Taylor.
00:17:03Of course.
00:17:04Yeah.
00:17:05That narrative makes me mad.
00:17:06PFF tracks like contact.
00:17:09Literally there was like a play where BJ Hill scraped through Mondrey Stevenson's leg.
00:17:12It's literally the moment that like a fingertip touches you, that's contact.
00:17:17So we need to take into account one, those dual runs at the end of the game, they were
00:17:20designed so that remandering had to beat a cornerback, which he himself said is a matchup
00:17:25that he likes.
00:17:26So those are plays where he was hit at the line of scrimmage or like a yard past and
00:17:30still ripped off explosive gains.
00:17:32Then you also have to take into account that the bangles were selling out to stop remandering
00:17:35because they knew he was the only real threat, especially late in the game.
00:17:39Like David Andrews mentioned in the second half, and you can see it on the tape, the
00:17:42bangle started not even like just blitzing specifically run blitzing.
00:17:46Like they were just trying to get into the backfield, gum up the interior.
00:17:50And then obviously, you know, set the edges and make sure remandering couldn't go anywhere.
00:17:54So there's those to take into account and the outside zone pin pull scheme wasn't really
00:17:58working for them.
00:18:00The bangles did a really good job forcing remandering inside and then second level guys
00:18:03were getting downhill and stopping him.
00:18:05So there's a lot to take into account with that, like 98% yards after contact.
00:18:10I understand looking at the raw number that it makes the offensive line look bad, and
00:18:14they were far from perfect for sure.
00:18:15A lot of it was remandering kind of putting things on his back.
00:18:18But let's be very clear.
00:18:21It wasn't like the line was out there just like not doing anything positive.
00:18:25They were doing their jobs more often than not.
00:18:28But there was also a lot of remandering, just having to win one on one and being able to
00:18:31do that.
00:18:32Can they run block better?
00:18:34Yes or no?
00:18:35Yeah, for sure.
00:18:36For sure.
00:18:37And I think like when city so is back in the lineup, the more latent Robinson plays and
00:18:40gets more comfortable.
00:18:41You know, Darian Lowe looked better than actually no choose was solid as a run block.
00:18:44I want to give him credit there.
00:18:45But yeah, I mean, Gerard Mayo said it, they're going to get better every week.
00:18:48That's the point of the Scott Peter system is I'm going to give you all the tools.
00:18:52Now every time someone beats you, I'm going to teach you how to be better and not get
00:18:55beat that way.
00:18:56So as long as that growth is there, you know, obviously thumbs up, but you know, it's only
00:19:00week one.
00:19:01So we'll see later.
00:19:02And my thoughts on the run blocking specifically, then we'll get into the pass blocking.
00:19:06Yeah.
00:19:07Just quickly on Robinson.
00:19:08He was a force again.
00:19:09I was on on the initial watch in their final preseason game against Washington.
00:19:14I was I was a bit hard on Robinson.
00:19:16I didn't think he looked good.
00:19:17And then, you know, it kind of came back and I know Brandon Thorne went through the film
00:19:21a little bit more and he was he was solid against Washington.
00:19:23There was a couple of mistakes and then he followed it up on Sunday again.
00:19:27He looks he looks really solid.
00:19:28And so look, it's it's week one for a fourth round rookie to come in and look like he's
00:19:34going to be the reason that they're going to play Mike and went to a tackle probably
00:19:36for the season because he's playing really well at guard and they're able to kind of
00:19:40shore up that side of the line right now.
00:19:41Taylor just cringe a little bit on that one.
00:19:43But again, what do you do, though?
00:19:45Because you want to play city.
00:19:46You want to play laden and you want to play Mike and there's only two guard spots.
00:19:49So it's probably what's going to end up happening.
00:19:52And you mentioned Chooks, man.
00:19:54I'm sure we'll get to the passing game and the pass blocking.
00:19:57But yeah, he was OK in the run game, but he struggled early.
00:19:59And that's the ultimately the reason why he came out.
00:20:01So Lowe comes in, definitely shores up that that pass blocking scheme that they wanted
00:20:05to, you know, want to perform with.
00:20:08And it got better.
00:20:09But that'll be one to watch, too, as we move forward, is what they do at left tackle.
00:20:12Brian.
00:20:13Yeah, I was with Taylor.
00:20:14Like I know the two yards before contact doesn't look good, but a lot of it was like getting
00:20:19Ramond in advantage situations or, you know, breaking arm tackles like you'll take that.
00:20:25So I thought that as a whole, the offensive line, they were run blocking pretty well,
00:20:29the pass blocking we can get to.
00:20:31But I thought that was kind of misleading.
00:20:34And also Caden Wallace, I thought, looked pretty good as that extra blocker.
00:20:37He was.
00:20:38Yeah, I like that.
00:20:39Eighteen times like he can run block right now in the pros.
00:20:42I thought that was pretty impressive.
00:20:44Just, you know, that was something they did in that twenty twenty two game.
00:20:47We talked a lot about with Jake Jacoby starting for the Browns, like use those jumbo looks.
00:20:52So they use Caden Wallace there a lot.
00:20:54And I thought he had some good push in the ground game as well.
00:20:57Yeah, I think it's in those looks really quick in those jumbo sets.
00:21:02They were very straightforward.
00:21:03They passed once and I think it was snaps.
00:21:06I think there were three kneel downs, like fifteen, really.
00:21:08But that was really cool to have them try out all those guys, like three tight end sets
00:21:13and be like, yeah, stop us if you can.
00:21:14And they couldn't.
00:21:15That was all.
00:21:16So I was going to say Caden Wallace, more or less half a touchdown reception this year.
00:21:23More I could see it.
00:21:24Yeah.
00:21:25Take the gamble on trick plays.
00:21:27The part the part of the regular season that I do love is like we watch training camp all
00:21:32summer long.
00:21:33And so we feel like we get an understanding for, you know, formations they want to run
00:21:37and pairings they want to do this, that and the other thing.
00:21:39And then we go out and we watch our ten, fifteen minutes.
00:21:42And we kind of figure out like the front five that we're going to use.
00:21:44But the thing I love is that we do leave practice and we don't know their scheme or game plan.
00:21:49And so, like, we're all we're all thinking like Caden Wallace put him on the rack.
00:21:53He's not going to play this year.
00:21:54They're going to try and bring in other guys.
00:21:56And then second play of the game, they bring in unbalanced.
00:22:00They bring him in as a run blocker and it's like, oh, no, he is a part of their scheme
00:22:04and a part of what they want to do on offense, too, which, again, I just think that's pretty
00:22:07cool.
00:22:08It's something we we weren't expecting at all.
00:22:09We figured he would be, you know, a rotational piece and be there if someone gets hurt.
00:22:12But they're going to use them right away in these unbalanced, unbalanced looks.
00:22:15So I think that's good to see, too, from the rookie.
00:22:18Yeah, no, that that's a look that should continue.
00:22:21And to to your point, Taylor, about it, I'm kind of just only having one plan when I say
00:22:26one plan, they're really almost exclusively running out of it.
00:22:29That's one of those ones where, like you said, that's just about execution.
00:22:32It doesn't matter if they know what you're doing.
00:22:34If you're going to execute at a high level, you're going to be able to make it work.
00:22:38Now, when it comes to pass blocking, Jacoby Berset pressured over 48 percent of the time
00:22:42this week.
00:22:43He was the most pressured quarterback in the NFL in week one.
00:22:47Half of those pressures came from left tackle, according to PFF here.
00:22:50So I'll give the coaching staff a ton of credit.
00:22:53They recognized early and I under like Darian Lowe's banged up, OK, you want a healthy group
00:22:58out there to start?
00:22:59I get it.
00:23:01They recognized early Chooks, a core four does not have it today.
00:23:05He is not three pressures and five dropbacks.
00:23:08He does not have it today.
00:23:09They made the switch.
00:23:10Darian Lowe wasn't great, but he was better for pressures and 16 dropbacks against Trey
00:23:15Hendrickson, who is a good player.
00:23:17I give the coaching staff a ton of credit there.
00:23:19I know Gerard Mayo said it will continue to be a competition between Lowe and a core four.
00:23:25I would hope Lowe starts this week.
00:23:27He's going to be healthier and he proved in that game he's the better option, Mike.
00:23:31I think you have to go in that direction to start this week.
00:23:35Yeah, absolutely.
00:23:36I I second the fact that I give them credit for not trying to bang their head against
00:23:40the wall, even though Chooks struggle because, you know, some coaching staffs, whether it's
00:23:43here or across the league, would say, well, no, these are five guys.
00:23:46We're going to let them work the kink out.
00:23:48And they didn't.
00:23:49And so I don't want to say it's impressive.
00:23:52It was the right thing to do, but it was it was something they needed to do.
00:23:54And I'm glad they did it.
00:23:55Look, it's I'll say this objectively.
00:23:58It's not a great look for the big picture.
00:24:00What I mean by that is Ellie Wolf came out in the offseason, hyped up Chooks, a core
00:24:03force of starting left tackle, and he's benched 13 plays into the season.
00:24:08Now, you kind of got to eat that.
00:24:10But also, right, that's a lot better than just saying, well, we said he was left tackle.
00:24:14It doesn't matter that we can't block he's out there.
00:24:15So they made a tough decision and they deserve credit for that.
00:24:18I think it's better a better look to acknowledge your mistake and fix it rather than, again,
00:24:24bang your head against the wall and say, well, we spent X amount of dollars and we praise
00:24:27this guy to be our left tackle.
00:24:29And even though we can't do it, we need to we need to make it look like we think we're
00:24:33right. And this will work itself out eventually.
00:24:35And so and kudos to the Darian Lowe, too, for being able and ready to go and probably
00:24:40fighting through some pain and an injury that he was going through, because Mike Giardi
00:24:44wrote about it on Boston Sports Journal this week.
00:24:45He talked to Lowe in the locker room this week, and he didn't sound too optimistic
00:24:49about his outlook to play in the game.
00:24:51And so it looks like a game time decision comes in as sort of a backup option, if need
00:24:56be, winds up being active and comes out and plays a heck of a game.
00:24:59So I look forward to the Darian Lowe playing left tackle and playing it well at this
00:25:05point. And it sounds crazy to say because he has become kind of the butt of the joke
00:25:10around here for a little while.
00:25:11The last couple games, the Patriots played last year or whatever, but he did, Alex, look
00:25:16like their best option to left tackle for that game.
00:25:19So, again, with with Cato Wallace getting more looks, we'll see if they end up making
00:25:22that sort of switch to a younger guy eventually.
00:25:25But for now, Chooks isn't it if they want to make an adjustment and try them on the
00:25:29right side eventually, maybe.
00:25:30But I think everywhere, everywhere else looked fine along the offensive line besides
00:25:35left tackle early. And you want to play the five guys you have as much as possible
00:25:39together. Look through one set of eyes like Scar used to always say.
00:25:43And so I'm impressed with the switch.
00:25:44And I hope that, you know, getting a full game under his belt could could help that
00:25:49could help that out even more.
00:25:51Brian, the only other, I think, past pro issue on the offensive line seemed to be kind
00:25:57of Leighton Robinson.
00:25:58I think five pressures was a team high, but a lot of that seemed more like the mental
00:26:03side of the game, right? Like there are some different pressure that Cincinnati schemed
00:26:07up. Yeah, one middle.
00:26:09Yeah, he allowed I think it was like two free rushers that he allowed.
00:26:12So you don't want to get on him too much because he's a rookie in his first career
00:26:15start against a pretty complex, you know, talented defense.
00:26:18But that seemed to be the one other type of thing, you know, from the past blocking
00:26:22point of view, was there a couple of free rushers from Leighton's point that, you
00:26:27know, one, they they would have had a big play to pop Douglas on kind of like this
00:26:30pick wheel and Douglas got wide open.
00:26:32But a free rusher kind of negated that.
00:26:34So that was the one other thing like Lowe wasn't perfect on the left tackle spot, but
00:26:38he was definitely better than Chuuk.
00:26:39So I think he is their best option going forward.
00:26:41But yeah, I don't want to get on Robinson too hard again.
00:26:45It's his first start. But I think there were just some mental issues that you hope he
00:26:48cleans up and should clean up with more experience going forward.
00:26:52Taylor. First, thank you, Dennis, for tuning in from Germany.
00:26:55I think he said it was six o'clock in the morning or something like that.
00:26:58That's insane. Just wanted to clock at night.
00:26:59I think they're ahead of us. It's like night.
00:27:01Oh, either one. Appreciate the tuning in, buddy.
00:27:04But yeah, the offensive line, Mike and when he won David Andrews, they had really good
00:27:08days. I think that's really want to see more than anything, because I think you
00:27:11understand there's going to be struggles in other places like Michael Jordan, for the
00:27:14most part, was solid. Now that left guard spot, I've mentioned it before.
00:27:18A lot of the time you end up uncovered because a lot of the time you'll see those
00:27:21like three technique pass rushing tackles on the right side.
00:27:24And technically, there's a lot of the time you end up getting more help towards that
00:27:28left side. But I like the fact that the stalwarts and the guys that you need to depend
00:27:31on to be nearly perfect and pass pro, they were like you guys already said it.
00:27:35But Darian Lowe had a really good game, which is awesome.
00:27:37Such an easy guy to root for wasn't perfect, but it was better than what any was going
00:27:42to possibly expected at the beginning of the summer or even going back to the spring.
00:27:46And then Lane Robinson, one on one.
00:27:48Honestly, he's been very good.
00:27:49There were a couple of times where he got beat to his corners.
00:27:52And one of those, I think it was just maybe over set a little bit.
00:27:55But really the mental side, he'll learn.
00:27:57He's also sandwiched between two veterans, which helps a lot.
00:28:00Like there was one play.
00:28:01I don't think Andrews was able to get there quite in time.
00:28:03But you saw like laden that guy inside and then Andrews tried to help him out a little
00:28:07bit. So I think they need to get better.
00:28:10We all know they need to get better.
00:28:11But the outlook is positive considering city.
00:28:14So should give you even better guard play.
00:28:16Maybe Darian Lowe as he's healthier, as he continues to work in the strike system and
00:28:20continue to improve. And Lane Robinson, obviously, Gerard Mayo had all the praise in the
00:28:24world for him, saying they knew all the way back in training camp.
00:28:27They had something special.
00:28:28And it's very obvious, like the way that he is not passive in past protection, the way
00:28:33that, you know, Evan mentioned it to me.
00:28:34And I thought it was a great point.
00:28:35He passed. That's kind of like a tackle, which is good and bad.
00:28:38He's kind of high in his stance, which can lead to him getting pulled back.
00:28:40But it also shows these athletic for a big guy.
00:28:42So I liked what I saw from the past protection, all things considered.
00:28:48That's a fat asterisk.
00:28:49But again, your stalwarts were clean.
00:28:51And I think that's one of the bigger takeaways.
00:28:53I mean, look, this kind of speaks to where the offensive line is at as a whole, that
00:28:59Jacoby Bursette was the most again, the most pressured quarterback in the league.
00:29:03And we're sitting here saying it's not as bad as we thought it was going to be.
00:29:07I think that kind of speaks to where the offensive line was at more than anything else.
00:29:11But in which, yeah, definitely some pieces to build on.
00:29:16It's really just getting that left tackle situation.
00:29:18All right.
00:29:19Uh, Ryan's bribing on it to get this thing figured out with the ad.
00:29:23So let's see, uh, game time.
00:29:25Can we get the game time?
00:29:27Uh, let's see if we're going to rely on, we're going to rely on our, our it
00:29:32specialist on that here, if he's still in the building, there we go.
00:29:35That's game time.
00:29:36Uh, game time, football's back.
00:29:39As we know, uh, all weekend long, we watched it.
00:29:42You might've watched it from your couch, but you can also watch it right from the
00:29:44stadium with the game time app.
00:29:46And right now, if you log onto game time and check out Seahawks at Patriots, you can
00:29:50get into Gillette stadium this weekend for as little as $116 going on the app.
00:29:57They have amazing deals, great deals, super deals.
00:30:00The best way to buy tickets is through.
00:30:03Uh, the game time app.
00:30:04You can look at your seat view, which is a pretty awesome feature.
00:30:07You can go in and see what the look like right from your seat on the game time app.
00:30:11There's also a new feature called game time picks that filters out the fluff to
00:30:15show only the incredible deals on the great seats that they have through game
00:30:18time.
00:30:18So you don't have to waste your time searching through the thousands of tickets
00:30:22on sale.
00:30:23Uh, there's also concert tickets.
00:30:24There's also theater tickets.

00:30:55Uh, Wallace, what would happen?
00:30:57Oh, it was Alex.
00:31:00Can that was really good.
00:31:01Alex Knight.
00:31:02Now it's one thing that, uh, Los asked us earlier than I think is a very good
00:31:05relevant question.
00:31:06I can't hear you.
00:31:06You're muted, buddy, but I'm going to go.
00:31:09I'll go for it.
00:31:10Sorry.
00:31:10Yeah.
00:31:10Go for it.
00:31:11Yeah.
00:31:11So let's ask the Bengals are known for having a bad run defense.
00:31:13Should we expect the same run dominance or was this just the team playing a bad
00:31:17run defense playing with a lead?
00:31:19So what's different factors?
00:31:20One, I think David Andrews, I got to catch a little bit of the podcast that he's
00:31:24done with Brian Hoyer, which is fantastic access, by the way, y'all need to watch
00:31:28that.
00:31:29It's really, really cool.
00:31:30But he mentioned how in the summer they also had success against their own run
00:31:33defense, which I think is probably the best run defense in the league.
00:31:36It was last year.
00:31:37And obviously now they're still very stout.
00:31:39It was that one drive, but I think they were tired.
00:31:41Um, I do think this is a good run game.
00:31:43Like most of the positive runs were the dual bounces and runs behind Mike and
00:31:47when those are going to be there every week.
00:31:50Also, I will say the NFL is geared towards stopping the past.
00:31:53So there's not a lot of good run defenses in the league.
00:31:55Like Gerard Mayo said, the Patriots always have one.
00:31:58A lot of schemes don't really care whether they have a good run defense or not, because
00:32:01most teams aren't going to commit to the run enough that it's a problem.
00:32:04That's going to cost you games.
00:32:05That said, when they do face a good run defense, you need to be more multiple
00:32:09because at that point you're kind of banging heads.
00:32:11One side's going to win.
00:32:12One side's going to lose, but you can't rely on it to carry your offense.
00:32:16So again, question by Lowe's.
00:32:18I think this run game will continue to have success, but I don't know if that's
00:32:22going to be the case down the season when, if teams are just like, we don't
00:32:25really care about the past, we're just going to literally load up like the
00:32:28bangles where they didn't even play with the deep safety towards the end.
00:32:31You can't be that predictable, but I do think that we're going to consistently
00:32:34see this run game be effective.
00:32:35Yeah.
00:32:35And Mayo mentioned Mayo mentioned to the other day that they're going to be a run
00:32:39team.
00:32:40And then he was asked to clarify and he said, no, no, we're a game plan team, but
00:32:44we liked, we're going to use our run game as sort of our bread and butter.
00:32:47And so you look at it that way and they, they may have the success they had as far
00:32:51as like yards per carry.
00:32:52And you know, when he ends the ball up, he's going to get X amount of yards, but
00:32:55they're also, they may not run a 20, 25 times, depending on again, what the other
00:32:59defense looks like and how, how it's going to look.
00:33:01So it'll change, but I'm with you there.
00:33:03It's it's yeah, that's kind of my point.
00:33:06All right.
00:33:06Let's move on to the past game.
00:33:07Uh, I thought this was a, a, a professionally quarterback game, if that
00:33:13makes sense and that he haven't seen one of those in a while, right?
00:33:18He stayed on schedule.
00:33:19This is a big point for the Patriots offense too.
00:33:20And this was a big part of it.
00:33:22They were able to be so effective running the ball because they stayed on schedule.
00:33:25You know, they got to second and six, they got to third and three, and they
00:33:28were top 10 in the league in average yards to go in on second and third down
00:33:31in week one, how many times the last few years, Oh, it's second and eight.
00:33:37Oh, it's first and 15.
00:33:38Well, the drives over.
00:33:40And I'm not saying that they, that won't be a thing anymore, but their ability to
00:33:44stay out of those situations to me was important and that allowed Jacob reset
00:33:48to quarterback the way he did, which was basically take care of the ball, take
00:33:53what the defense gives you and just keep everything under control and keep things
00:33:56moving, right?
00:33:57Don't let the ball hit the ground, get up the field.
00:33:59He did have a couple of misses.
00:34:01He had the one to Hunter Henry, the fade that he under through that
00:34:03probably should have been picked.
00:34:05And it does change the narrative of the game.
00:34:07If that gets picked.
00:34:07So give Hunter Henry credit there.
00:34:09And then he had one later in the game that he threw on a third down pop.
00:34:13Douglas runs his route a little short of the sticks.
00:34:16Probably could have picked it up on the ground.
00:34:18If it's an accurate throw to code, your set throws it high.
00:34:21Douglas still made the catch, but he had to like jump, secure it, land, turn.
00:34:25By the time he does all that, the defenders are there and he doesn't
00:34:27really have anywhere to go.
00:34:28So go.
00:34:29We also double clutched it for some reason.
00:34:31I couldn't tell why was that on that?
00:34:34Yeah, it was that.
00:34:34I didn't notice that hesitates and then throws.
00:34:37If he anticipates pop breaking the route off and throws it, it's kind of like the
00:34:41KJ Osborne one where it was short of the sticks, but there was enough room that
00:34:44realistically he could have like dove and got it, but yeah, there was also a double
00:34:47clutch, which I think may have affected why.
00:34:49So again, like, did he leave some plays on the field?
00:34:51Yes.
00:34:52The deep ball to Taekwon Thornton at the beginning of the second half, Jalen
00:34:55Polk's open on the other side.
00:34:57Um, he had another one in the red zone.
00:34:59I think it's the play before the Hunter Henry play where he has a tight end on a
00:35:02flag, kind of pulling away from the safety as he throws it.
00:35:05So he leaves some plays on the field.
00:35:06Yes.
00:35:07And people are going to look at that and say, well, couldn't Drake may have done
00:35:11what they asked Jacoby Berset to do and maybe a little more to which I would say
00:35:15yes, but I don't think that's the point.
00:35:17I think the point is John, they're building this offense up and they kind of
00:35:22talked about this after the game and their report, there's a report for me in
00:35:25rapport that they want everything in place before Drake may comes in.
00:35:30Drake may will grow with the offense in practice.
00:35:32But as those growing pains play out in games, they want it to be Jacoby Berset.
00:35:36And the reality is could, could Drake may have done a little more?
00:35:40Yes.
00:35:40There's also some things that Jacoby Berset did decisions he made or didn't
00:35:44make that were just veteran decisions that I think Drake may seeing them on tape
00:35:50and getting them explained to him on tape in that room, which code Berset will save
00:35:53him some growing pains on the field.
00:35:56Could they have done that with Drake may?
00:35:57Yes.
00:35:58I don't think that's an inaccurate take, but I think the more important
00:36:01takeaway is they didn't need Drake may to do what they did on Sunday.
00:36:06And I think that's more, more the approach they're taking.
00:36:08So I also think just the passing game will get a little more aggressive as the
00:36:12pass rush, um, improves, or sorry, as the past protection improves, as the
00:36:18Bengals turned up the energy on the pass rush late in the first half, you saw
00:36:21them come out at the start of the second half and get very conservative there.
00:36:25The first three drives that third quarter were nine plays for 20 yards, two, three
00:36:32and outs, and then the three and out with the field goal off the forest
00:36:35fumble from Joe Cardona.
00:36:36So there is room for the offense to expand under Jacoby Berset, but I don't
00:36:40think this is the game that you look at and say, man, we need Drake may.
00:36:43And there, even on that one more point, I know I'm kind of hogging it on.
00:36:46Then I'll get to you guys.
00:36:47One more point on that.
00:36:48Jacoby Berset's never really been a statue, but he's also never been a guy
00:36:51that you look at as a threat with his legs either.
00:36:54They were in this game, scrambled four times, three for first downs, made a couple
00:36:58of nice throws on the run, or just repositioned himself to safely throw the
00:37:01ball away instead of taking a sack.
00:37:03Uh, he gave me a little something there.
00:37:06It wasn't just quite a pure, you know, vanilla quarterbacking three
00:37:09step hit the shortest route.
00:37:11It was a little something to that, but I thought he was fine.
00:37:14I didn't come away from that game thinking, Oh boy, they got
00:37:17to get Drake may ready Taylor.
00:37:20Yeah.
00:37:20I, so I got some crap for saying I was pretty much fine with your company's
00:37:25performance.
00:37:25Like I had very few complaints.
00:37:26Cause I think the bad moments he had were magnified by the situation.
00:37:30Like I'll say the Taekwon Thornton one, that's one where you got your fast guy
00:37:34and you're just like, Hey, either you run under this or nobody gets it.
00:37:37Taekwon was also very well covered.
00:37:38That was one where, when I go through these plays, I try to segment like,
00:37:41where do they miss opportunities?
00:37:43Where do they make plays?
00:37:44And you know, what were the screw ups?
00:37:45That was one where I'm like, I'm kind of tossing that in the other bin.
00:37:48Uh, but then the missed opportunities in the red zone are the biggest area
00:37:51or they need to be better.
00:37:52Like you can't put the ball in arm's way.
00:37:55And you need, there was one play where he checked it down to Ramon Dre.
00:37:57I think every other option was a possibility.
00:38:00That's, that's the one I'm talking about with the tight end.
00:38:02I think everyone talks about Jalen Pope and it's like, yeah, but KJ Osborne.
00:38:07And I think it was Hunter Henry.
00:38:08We're also open that needs to improve.
00:38:10But the fact that he was able to keep them on schedule, like John kept
00:38:13peppering us with questions about all, but Drake may could have done XYZ.
00:38:16We will never know.
00:38:17And when, if they lose the game, then I'll bring that up.
00:38:20But at the end of the day, you need to do enough to win.
00:38:22And they would not have been in that game without Jacoby getting the ball out on
00:38:25time to avoid sacks and those negative plays running when he got opportunities,
00:38:29converting on third downs.
00:38:31He also had some big third down throws.
00:38:33Like he had that one to Hunter Henry.
00:38:34He had one to pop Douglas.
00:38:36I feel like those are sliding under the radar because everybody
00:38:38wants Drake made a play.
00:38:39So whenever Jacoby does something, right.
00:38:41People kind of are just like, Oh yeah, whatever.
00:38:43He's a veteran, but it's like those things matter.
00:38:45And they're a big reason.
00:38:46The offense was in the position.
00:38:47They were in on top of, obviously, Ramond Drey Stevenson's incredible effort.
00:38:50A lot of things that Jacoby Berset can improve, but I didn't see this
00:38:53performance and think, Oh man, the pats are screwed at quarterback with Jacoby.
00:38:57Like there's things he can improve upon, but they are learning moments.
00:39:00It wasn't like, you know, some of the things we saw in practice and training
00:39:03camp where the deep stuff just is not there.
00:39:05And it feels like the accuracy is just bad enough where it's really going to cost you.
00:39:10Again, those things did pop up, but as long as they, uh, aren't coming in
00:39:14critical situations, like God habit, third downs, things like that.
00:39:18I'm I'm not too mad about it.
00:39:20Yeah.
00:39:20Taylor.
00:39:20I think the word you use off the top there is the exact way to phrase it.
00:39:23It was fine.
00:39:24It was fine.
00:39:25Nobody's sitting here saying he's going to win MVP.
00:39:28Nobody's seeing here.
00:39:28He's going to lead them to the division playing like that.
00:39:30But it was fine.
00:39:32It was, it was, it was whatever it was.
00:39:34I think that the EPA chart, the EPA quarterback chart that gets shared every
00:39:37week, he was like dead center in the middle.
00:39:40It was on the
00:39:41take that you'll take that.
00:39:43I would have, I know I hate myself for using it, but he was, he was right dead
00:39:46in the middle and to your point, their learning experiences, honestly, and maybe
00:39:50this is, I don't mean to say this to disparage Jacoby, I don't really care
00:39:53what he's learning at this point.
00:39:55He's 31 years old.
00:39:55He is what he is.
00:39:56It's not going to matter what he's learning or not learning in two months.
00:39:59But him going in the film room with Alex Van Pelt and Drake May and pointing out
00:40:03the decision saying, this is why I did that.
00:40:05This is why I didn't do that to Drake May.
00:40:07That is going to be beneficial.
00:40:08It's going to be very beneficial.
00:40:10Uh, Brian, your thoughts on the quarterbacking performance.
00:40:12Yeah, I thought he did his job and he executed the game plan.
00:40:15Right.
00:40:15And I would have liked him.
00:40:17There were some times I thought he could have been a little bit more aggressive.
00:40:19Like that one in the red zone, you were talking about Taylor, but maybe they
00:40:23just thought with this game plan, how good the defense is playing.
00:40:25We don't need to take these chances.
00:40:27Right.
00:40:27So he did his job.
00:40:28You, you saw, you know, I mentioned the free rushers earlier,
00:40:31talking about the pass pro.
00:40:32Like one of them, he, he stands in there.
00:40:34He just dumps it off quick, hot, uh, Austin Hooper, who takes it 16 yards.
00:40:38Like he had the answers.
00:40:39That's why he's starting right now.
00:40:41So, you know, Barth, I think you said they didn't need Drake may in this game,
00:40:45but I think it might show kind of the excitement of what Drake may could do in
00:40:50this offense, because he could raise that ceiling.
00:40:53You hope when eventually he, he has those answers and he can gets in there.
00:40:56Cause he's a little bit more aggressive with mindset wise.
00:40:59He has a stronger arm.
00:41:00Maybe he can hit some of those throws more down the field and maybe that
00:41:04adds 10, 14 points on your score.
00:41:06Right.
00:41:06And now you're, you know, in the mid twenties, even touching the thirties
00:41:09there, that's what you need because you're not going to win every week,
00:41:12throwing for 120 yards and scoring 16 points.
00:41:15So I thought Jacoby, you know, executed the game plan well, but.
00:41:19That game plan that, that way of winning, it isn't going to win you games every
00:41:23week, so we'll, we'll see how it looks going forward, Mike.
00:41:26Yeah.
00:41:26I'll just add that, you know, I I've mentioned 2025 and beyond.
00:41:31This is not a 2024 team, but in the building in week one, in order to game
00:41:36plan for Sunday, you're a 2024 team and you are looking to win one week.
00:41:40And Jacoby did exactly that.
00:41:42Now, is that gonna, is that gonna win games down the stretch?
00:41:45I don't know.
00:41:46And I guess I don't mean to say it like this, but I don't really like, I don't
00:41:49care at this point because they did win the game and so it got it done this week.
00:41:53And that, um, what, what Drake may can bring where, okay, maybe you don't score
00:41:5816 points, maybe you score 28 points and he throws a touchdown and gets, you know,
00:42:03does X, Y, and Z, and it makes a lot more happen.
00:42:05But right now, this early, they might think that there's also a lower floor
00:42:09there and they may have scored six points because he turned the ball over twice and
00:42:12it didn't have the answers that Brian just talked about.
00:42:15So I don't, I have a hard time looking for when are we going
00:42:19to play Drake may after a win.
00:42:21Um, I think if after a, you know, the team loses and they score 16 points,
00:42:26say they lose 20 to 20 to 16.
00:42:29Right.
00:42:29And the defense still plays good.
00:42:30Let's up 20 points, but the offense, offense can't get the
00:42:33ball across the finish line.
00:42:35You know, a few times and they have to settle for field goals.
00:42:37Well, what would Drake may have done in this game to make it better?
00:42:39So, um, I'll story short again, impressed, impressed with Jacobi's
00:42:44way of, of methodically running the offense could have done more,
00:42:48but they didn't need it.
00:42:49Um, so until he can't do it when they need it, that's when you kind of look
00:42:53at, you know, the rest of the room, but for now, week one, a good win.
00:42:56And, uh, we'll see what happens.
00:42:58And look, it could get uglier next week.
00:43:00It could get uglier against a better Seattle defense and the calls for Drake
00:43:04may are only going to get louder.
00:43:05I still think you sat him.
00:43:07Now you don't play him for the first month of season.
00:43:09I certainly don't want to make his first start on a short week.
00:43:12Absolutely not.
00:43:13Um, but yeah, like the, the, the calls from air are going to continue to come
00:43:16and, and they're going to continue to come all year and that's just something
00:43:19the team's going to have to deal with.
00:43:20And that's part of the decision you make when you sit the young quarterback.
00:43:23But I think you saw why there there's a, there's a Drake Mason unknown.
00:43:30Drake Mason unknown.
00:43:31I think as they get this thing going and as, as they build up the offense in
00:43:35season, which they're going to have to do for better or worse, they don't want
00:43:39to have to do so with an unknown at quarterback, because it's going to
00:43:41make that process a lot tougher.
00:43:43What you saw on Sunday was maybe not the best quarterback game you've ever seen,
00:43:46but a guy that is steady and you can set your watch to, and that allows, that
00:43:51gives them the opportunity to be able to really figure out, okay, what
00:43:54are we doing at left tackle?
00:43:55What are we doing in terms of rotating our receivers, things like that.
00:43:58When it comes to the receivers, a lot of people pointed out that
00:44:01nobody really stood out.
00:44:03And I think at least until Kendrick Bourne comes back, that's kind of
00:44:05what they're going to be is, is by committee.
00:44:08They don't have a true dominant.
00:44:09Number one, they're going to just kind of have to ride the hot hand, pick on
00:44:12whatever matchup they like in that game.
00:44:14It's going to be different guys in different weeks, really
00:44:16spreading the ball out.
00:44:17You had five guys with multiple catches, five guys, multiple targets.
00:44:21Uh, KJ Osborne led the team with six, which is not a lot, even for
00:44:24how much they threw the ball.
00:44:26Um, Jalen Polk played a little bit.
00:44:29He got open, um, which was encouraging.
00:44:31And I think as they get more time to throw, that goes back to the line.
00:44:35They'll be able to take advantage of that more.
00:44:37Um, the other thing I'll say is with pop Douglas was their
00:44:39second most used receiver.
00:44:40He's around 60%.
00:44:42I think that's where he's going to be because we talked about this with the
00:44:44line, they're going to do a lot of that 12 personnel, they're going to want
00:44:47their bigger receivers on the field.
00:44:49Blocking KJ Osborne had a great game blocking in this one, especially on
00:44:53the Ramon receivers and touchdown.
00:44:54He, well, I think he walled off a linebacker.
00:44:56I don't even think it was a corner.
00:44:58And when he did a lot of the work, he kind of just got in the way at the end
00:45:01there, but they did use him to do a lot of that dirty work near the line.
00:45:04But the point being like, again, I think they're going to be all over
00:45:08the place with the receivers this year.
00:45:09So I don't know if, uh, um, Brian, we'll start with you, if any particular
00:45:13wide receiver stood out to you, um, in this game, I mean, I just wanted
00:45:18to give Polk credit because, you know, you look at the box score and it's one
00:45:22target, one catch for six yards.
00:45:24And you're like, that's kind of underwhelming for his rookie debut there.
00:45:27But I think he was open a lot more.
00:45:29We talked about that one again, in the red zone where he kind
00:45:32of dust the guy on the fade.
00:45:33He even had another, um, that goal ball to start the third, third quarter to
00:45:38Taekwon, like he was open on the other side.
00:45:40Now that's a far hash throw.
00:45:41So you get why Jacoby maybe tests Taekwon is speedster on that one.
00:45:45But I thought he had a good release there.
00:45:47Even, uh, later, uh, throw to pop on third down, like Polk kind of
00:45:52got open on that backside dig.
00:45:53So I thought he was open a lot kind of throughout the game.
00:45:56And hopefully they see that on the film, they go in next week and say, okay,
00:46:00maybe we, you know, try to get him a little bit more involved
00:46:03and get the ball to him.
00:46:04So box score wasn't great, but I thought it was kind of an encouraging
00:46:07debut there from the rookie wideout.
00:46:10Mike.
00:46:11Yeah.
00:46:11I mean, not, not ton to glean from 15 completions, right?
00:46:15I think you, you like to see pop do a little bit more, um, you know, two
00:46:19catches for just 12 yards, but I don't think that's his fault.
00:46:21I think that that's just, again, I keep going back to it, but that's
00:46:24what the game plan was to, to run the football, get completions in
00:46:27your third downs when you have to.
00:46:28Um, even though Austin Hooper had two catches, they were two big catches.
00:46:32Um, and I think I, I enjoy seeing, um, Jacoby and what he can do with
00:46:36these tight ends, because that was the, the bread and butter in Cleveland.
00:46:39And it looks like they've kind of carried that over here again.
00:46:41Um, and so I echo what you said about Paul, Brian, just getting open and you
00:46:45hope that once they watch the fit, like this is his first game where you see
00:46:51him play X amount of snaps, he gets open X amount of times on these plays.
00:46:54Then you can turn that and kind of work that into your game plan moving forward.
00:46:57So, um, that's kind of that on the receivers.
00:46:59The one thing that I missed when we did Jacobi real quick, that I just wanted
00:47:02to add to that, um, as far as not putting the ball in harm's way, um, again, we
00:47:06can go back to the receivers in a second, but I just, I thought of this was the
00:47:09only time I feel like he did put the ball in harm's way was the ball to hunter
00:47:13Henry, the other misses that he had, they were outside, they were high, they
00:47:17were far, but I don't like, they weren't getting tipped off by a
00:47:20linebacker tip by a cornerback.
00:47:21So I think that even if you're missing and you're missing outside
00:47:24and you're missing far, that's okay.
00:47:25So long as you're not turning the football over.
00:47:27So, um, I just kind of wanted to add that too.
00:47:30Good point.
00:47:30Taylor, uh, any wider series of sit out to you.
00:47:33Um, to Mario Douglas, of course, I thought he and poke were the ones
00:47:36who were getting the most separation.
00:47:37Now there wasn't a ton.
00:47:39There were some plays where I don't want to get too crazy about it this week, but
00:47:43there were a few plays where everybody was covered pretty well in the main
00:47:46coverage, didn't totally love that.
00:47:48Um, Taekwon Thornton, I know people mentioned that he was open a couple
00:47:51of times, one of them was in the red zone where he kind of maybe got behind a
00:47:55corner, but pre-snap it's kind of like in the preseason where people got mad
00:47:58that Jacoby didn't throw to him in the red zone, but people are bracketing
00:48:02Taekwon when he's down there.
00:48:03So pre-snap you see that.
00:48:05And if the safeties don't move, Taekwon's not in the progression
00:48:08because you're not trying to throw to one guy who's occupying two defenders.
00:48:12Um, then there was another one where Taekwon's defender
00:48:14slipped late in the route.
00:48:15I wasn't sure if it was like him putting a move.
00:48:17I think the defender literally just slipped.
00:48:19Um, and he was, you know, on the other side of the field.
00:48:21I just wanted to point that out.
00:48:22Cause I know people were saying that I want to root for Taekwon so badly, but I
00:48:26saw him covered a lot in this game.
00:48:28Uh, some of the moves that we saw in camp where, you know, he gets to the
00:48:31top and tries to shake the guy.
00:48:32Those were not working very much.
00:48:34So in the future, I think in KJ Osborne also was more consistent
00:48:39than I would have liked.
00:48:40Um, I didn't really see as much from him as I was hoping to, but Polk and
00:48:44pop need to be the guys who are at the top of the progression consistently.
00:48:48Because I feel like even going back to the summer, like pop is always open.
00:48:52Polk, even if he isn't open, we've seen like three times already
00:48:55preseason and this week that he'll make the catch.
00:48:58It doesn't really matter.
00:48:59So I'd like to see the best players, the best young players on this
00:49:03more opportunity.
00:49:04So the other guys can be more complimentary.
00:49:06One last thing on the offense where we, we move over to the
00:49:08defense side of the ball here.
00:49:09It's an hour in, uh, quite the crossover, um, Jayvon Baker, only
00:49:14rookie that didn't dress Joe Milton was inactive, but he dresses
00:49:17the emergency third quarterback.
00:49:19Thoughts on his status.
00:49:21Taylor.
00:49:22Uh, one thing really quick.
00:49:23A micro upload just announced the Patriots signed defensive tackle,
00:49:26uh, Jacqueline Roy to their practice squad.
00:49:28He was a fifth round pick from the Vikings last year.
00:49:31I don't know anything about him, but there's that.
00:49:34I remember.
00:49:34Yeah.
00:49:34Out of LSU.
00:49:35I remember him in the draft.
00:49:36He's just a, um, I gotta go back and look, but, uh, pretty
00:49:41penetrator.
00:49:41Um, I think space eater, if I remember correctly, they didn't have a
00:49:45spot on their practice squad, did they?
00:49:47So no, so they're making a move.
00:49:50Yeah.
00:49:50Somebody's going to have to get cut.
00:49:51I'm sorry.
00:49:52What was the question?
00:49:52Alex, my bad.
00:49:53Um, your thoughts on where Jayvon Baker's right.
00:49:56Um, I, I know everyone wants to make it like, oh, it's because of his
00:50:00personality and all that.
00:50:01And the live, I think that it's really just cause he's not playing well.
00:50:05I think it comes down to that.
00:50:06Like even in practice, there was a rep where I was looking at the
00:50:09offensive line, I look over to the receivers, I see Jayvon's about to go.
00:50:12And I'm like, all right, let me see what happens here.
00:50:14I'm just curious.
00:50:15He followed the ball twice.
00:50:16It dropped it.
00:50:17I mean, that's one very small sample size.
00:50:19It was literally warmups.
00:50:20I'm not trying to, you know, beat that to death or anything, but we've seen it in
00:50:24practices throughout the summer that Jayvon just wasn't doing enough to really be
00:50:28someone you'd expect to be active on the game day roster.
00:50:30So as much as we want to make it about all this stuff off the field, I think the
00:50:33bottom line is he's not playing well enough to earn an active game day spot.
00:50:38So that's why I said it was a surprise.
00:50:40People push back against that.
00:50:41And honestly, that was me being in my head.
00:50:42I, I should have been more open-minded that other people would have been
00:50:46surprised, but after everything we've seen, I was not at all shocked to
00:50:50see that he's not active yet.
00:50:51It might take a minute.
00:50:52And, uh, Mayo also said Mayo was asked about it and he said like they
00:50:57disciplined him to a point where it wouldn't reach, like taking a game away
00:51:01from him.
00:51:01So he seemed like he was trending towards being an inactive even before that video
00:51:06came out.
00:51:07And then, you know, Mayo said the discipline part.
00:51:09So yeah, I don't think there was anything to read into from, from the video or how
00:51:14he handled things like that.
00:51:15Yeah.
00:51:16The easiest answer is he's, um, it's a crowded room and Jalen Rager brings,
00:51:21uh, return abilities as a player and, or, well, I guess, nevermind.
00:51:27Uh, I'm kinda, uh, practice squad, but long story short, crowded room.
00:51:32And when you go to, um, like the back end of it with Keishon booty, the, the video,
00:51:40the live probably doesn't help his cause when it's, are we going to address booty
00:51:43or are we going to address, uh, uh, Javon Baker?
00:51:46So like, I don't, I don't think that that was the necessary factor, but you know,
00:51:50doing stuff like that when you're in a crowded room at the back end of it, isn't
00:51:53going to help your cause either.
00:51:55And booty didn't play, they went straight four man rotation at receiver.
00:51:59So he didn't play special teams either.
00:52:01Right.
00:52:01He was just, uh, which Baker could play special teams.
00:52:05He played some gunner like throughout the preseason and camp, but they had other
00:52:09guys who filled in fine at that spot anyway.
00:52:11So our style, he's a dude now, we'll get to him.
00:52:15We'll get to the defense, but I'm gonna get ready first.
00:52:17Cause we're going to hear from our new friends at PXG, our new friends that
00:52:22we're very excited for because.
00:52:25PXG has new black ops irons that are game improvement, missile launchers
00:52:30that feature X-Core two technology and a dual cavity design that combines
00:52:34with their high strength, ultra thin steel club face to deliver superior
00:52:38forgiveness, absolute explosive distance in a field that's softer than a baby
00:52:43bunny because new black ops irons are incredibly easy to hit and maximize
00:52:48performance and fun out on the course.
00:52:50Oh, and they're only one 49 99 a stick.
00:52:52That's a great price for a great golf iron.
00:52:55Barth and I, we went in to get fitted for some irons.
00:52:59They improved my distance.
00:53:00I was hitting at 40 yards longer, 20 miles an hour ball speed.
00:53:04My guy, Brian got me right in the Framingham PXG on the simulators.
00:53:07Barth, you went as well.
00:53:08How, how'd you hit your new irons when you went in?
00:53:11Yeah, my guy, Brandon helped me out.
00:53:12It's real cool.
00:53:13So you swing like your, your old club and then they kind of show you the spray
00:53:16chart and mine was pretty wide.
00:53:18And then, you know, they, they tweak this, they tweet, they, you know,
00:53:21they give you the PXG club, right?
00:53:22We're going to tweak this.
00:53:23We're going to tweak that.
00:53:23You see it kind of start to come together and not checking
00:53:27as many balls into the woods now.
00:53:28So that's certainly nice.
00:53:29And PXG definitely I have them to thank for that.
00:53:32Yep.
00:53:32I took them out this weekend for the first time.
00:53:34Definitely was hitting them much better, straighter, farther, all that.
00:53:38So you guys got to take the PXG irons challenge.
00:53:41It's a ton of fun.
00:53:42And if it's PXG's new black ops irons, don't outpour outperform
00:53:46your current irons by delivering either more distance or tighter dispersion.
00:53:50That means better accuracy during your fitting.
00:53:52You'll get a hundred dollar mastercard rewards card.
00:53:55So hurry.
00:53:56This offer ends October 7th.
00:53:58Book your fitting at PXG.com.
00:54:00That's P X G.com for your fitting Taylor.
00:54:04We're going to have to get you out on the golf course soon
00:54:06and maybe get some PXG clubs.
00:54:08If you want to teach me how to hit a ball, you can have, I told you guys
00:54:11what happened the last time I went to top golf didn't apply out of your hand.
00:54:15I was, my hands were very sweaty.
00:54:16Cause I was nervous because I was friends and I tried to hit it.
00:54:20And that MFR flew like all the way into the course.
00:54:24I just sat down.
00:54:25I didn't take another swing.
00:54:26Well, that will not happen with PXG clubs.
00:54:28You go to PXG and they're in Framingham.
00:54:31So they're not far.
00:54:31If you go to PXG in Framingham, they'll, they'll help you get situated
00:54:35and help you get set up with clubs.
00:54:36So fix me, fix me PXG.
00:54:38Please get them for as a Pat's daily, uh, as a past daily sponsor,
00:54:42get us a couple of clubs.
00:54:43We'll talk them up too.
00:54:44I gotta, I gotta get in on this.
00:54:46All right, let's move on to the, let's move on to the defense.
00:54:48To me, the big story with Patriots defense in this game was the sophomores.
00:54:52Christian Gonzalez, Keon white, you lose Matthew Jude on, you lose
00:54:56Christian Barmore in the preseason.
00:54:58And it suddenly went from a unit that, you know, top 10, maybe top
00:55:02five down the middle of the pack.
00:55:03And it felt like if they're going to stay in that top 10 range,
00:55:05those two guys need to show up.
00:55:07Boy, did they Keon white two and a half sacks.
00:55:10And honestly, to me, it feels like that number kind of undersells
00:55:12his performance, Christian Gonzalez.
00:55:15Excellent in coverage on Jamar chase, Mike, I don't think
00:55:18we've started with you in a bit.
00:55:19So you, what were your thoughts on those two?
00:55:22Uh, Gonzalez is a baller and we knew it and everyone was upset that he
00:55:27didn't have a great preseason and that he kind of was just containing guys
00:55:31instead of not, you know, making plays on the football and instead he comes
00:55:36out and is like, yeah, no, it's, it's week one, I'm ready to rock.
00:55:39He holds chase to, uh, basically nothing for compared to what Jamar
00:55:43chase can do on a football field.
00:55:44And so, uh, shattered him pretty much the whole time.
00:55:47Uh, and had success in doing it.
00:55:48So I'm looking forward now to see what you can do against your guy, uh, Alex
00:55:52Barth in DK Metcalf next weekend, because, uh, that's good, that's his next test.
00:55:57And he's going, uh, you know, he's gone up against the ringer in his first four
00:56:02games last year, and now his first couple of games this year, he'll
00:56:04have Garrett Wilson week three.
00:56:06So, uh, they're putting him to the test and so far he's succeeded.
00:56:09So no complaints on Gonzo's end whatsoever.
00:56:12Um, and then Keon White's a baller, someone who inside outside does it all.
00:56:17Um, you hardly miss Matthew Judon's presence on the field with, with Keon
00:56:21White being there as a pass rusher.
00:56:22Um, again, both on the inside and the outside, I think too, um, he's sort of
00:56:27getting that national recognition too.
00:56:29I saw, saw a baldy breakdown down about him.
00:56:31He's obviously a stat leader now with again, two and a half sacks.
00:56:34He's up there.
00:56:35Uh, and I don't think it did him justice.
00:56:36I went to, someone asked me if, if he was leading the league in stats now.
00:56:39And I look and Greg Russo had ended up having three and just inched him out.
00:56:43But look, I, I think that this is just the beginning for a guy like him.
00:56:47So really, really good to see him, um, Excel this early on.
00:56:50And, uh, it's an, it's impressive to watch the both of them.
00:56:53Taylor.
00:56:55Yeah.
00:56:55Keon White, man.
00:56:56They, so what I thought was interesting was obviously he
00:56:58lined up all over the place.
00:56:59He was on the edge where he, uh, beat Trent Brown inside Joshua Uche.
00:57:04He took Trent Brown down.
00:57:08Yeah, that was crazy.
00:57:09Um, and then he also had, uh, um, I'm sorry, Keon White of
00:57:12pressure as a defensive tackle.
00:57:14They were using him the way they used to use Dante Hightower, Jamie Collins, like
00:57:18those, those linebackers who could rush where it's basically just like either
00:57:22attack the pocket and penetrate or loop around, which he had a lot of success with.
00:57:26So I thought that was really interesting.
00:57:28And I hope we see more of that.
00:57:29The Patriots tried to do that with Matthew Judon at times where they
00:57:32would put him on the inside.
00:57:33It never really worked.
00:57:34So they kind of just kept him on the edge where he was most comfortable.
00:57:37But Keon White even acknowledged this summer that he's really best inside
00:57:41and that's where he's most effective.
00:57:43I asked if he feels like he's come along more on the edge and he was
00:57:46like, you know, I still got work to do.
00:57:47I had the sack, but you know, room to improve a good spot for him.
00:57:50Also funny to hear him say, I'm not the most technically sound
00:57:54rusher, but you know, I go full speed.
00:57:56And I just, he's just trying to make an impact.
00:57:57And honestly, I love the self-awareness from him, uh, because that is really
00:58:01how I described his password style.
00:58:02Although I did think he had some impressive moves thrown in.
00:58:05Love that from Keon.
00:58:06And then Christian Gonzalez watching the tape, I noticed there were a few
00:58:09times where he looks more confident.
00:58:11Like after the snap, he would kind of like shove Jamar chase or give
00:58:15him a little extra after the play.
00:58:16I'm like, I don't remember that from Gonzo last year.
00:58:19Like he's playing like a dude who knows he's a bad man.
00:58:24Yeah.
00:58:24And John Jones said that he's been working really hard in practice,
00:58:27which the coaches have said that now John Jones has said it, man.
00:58:31I don't really care.
00:58:32Like I said it, I don't care if it looks like he's struggling this summer.
00:58:35He struggled last year.
00:58:36Remember when Devante Parker was just owning him vertically, like every single
00:58:40day, and then Mike Pellegrino was like, yeah, but he gets to learn and get better.
00:58:44And then he goes out against AJ Brown and Devante Smith
00:58:47and has a really good day.
00:58:48So I'm glad we didn't buy into that hype on this channel.
00:58:51Um, yeah.
00:58:52And Christian Gonzalez had a really good game.
00:58:54Only downsides I'd say where there was a third down conversion against Jamar
00:58:58Chase, where like the John Jones play where he fires downhill and attacks
00:59:01a Yosha boss, and it's like a huge size mismatch, a huge fourth downstop.
00:59:05Gonzo had a similar play where they were blitzing and he should have just
00:59:09basically waited for the throw to happen, knowing it was going to be short, gone
00:59:12downhill and city backpedaled and basically gave up his momentum.
00:59:16And then Chase was able to fight for extra yardage.
00:59:18He also got called for a penalty.
00:59:20I felt kind of ticky tack and me, but whatever.
00:59:22But besides that in coverage, other than getting picked off two times,
00:59:25like in some bunch looks, he was all over Jamar Chase.
00:59:28Like it was, he was smooth.
00:59:29There was one deep out route where he flipped his hips fluid.
00:59:32I'm just like, Oh, that's it.
00:59:34God.
00:59:34So that's the stuff.
00:59:35So, uh, DK Metcalf is a much different challenge.
00:59:38Jamar Chase is one of the freakiest athletes in the league, but DK is closer
00:59:42to an AJ Brown where he's just so physical and big, it's just kind of guy.
00:59:46You don't see very often, especially with his speed.
00:59:49Now, Pat Sertan, at least statistically was able to hold him down.
00:59:52So I got to watch the tape and see what that was about.
00:59:54Uh, but it's going to be exciting to see another big test for Gonzo.
00:59:57He had a really good first game.
00:59:59Brian.
01:00:00Yeah.
01:00:00And you could tell he was excited for that matchup Jamar Chase, right?
01:00:03Like there was a video in the locker room after where you could
01:00:05hear someone yelling at him.
01:00:07Like he didn't want to give him a new contract.
01:00:09So he was juiced up and he played well.
01:00:10And, uh, Keon too.
01:00:12I know Taylor, you said the quote that he's not a technical sound,
01:00:14technically sound pass rusher, which I hope they just kind of let him move
01:00:19all around and just let him do what he got to do to go after a quarterback.
01:00:22Cause you need that pass rush, right?
01:00:23Without these other guys in your lineup right now.
01:00:26And that was a real promising sign that he was able to do that inside
01:00:30outside with some of those more finesse moves, I thought that was really
01:00:33encouraging from both of those guys.
01:00:35All right.
01:00:35The other thing that stood out for the defense for me, just
01:00:37really technically sound game.
01:00:39And this is something you wonder, you know, bill Belichick
01:00:41preach and preach and preach.
01:00:42And how much is that going to carry over?
01:00:44Um, really the only couple issues in that regard, they were both Josh
01:00:48who Jay, they were both on the same drive back to back third downs.
01:00:51He blows contain on one of them allows Joe Burrow to roll out,
01:00:54hit a receiver, move the chains.
01:00:56And then jumps off side on another, and he's got to be better on third down.
01:00:58So that's where he's going to make his money.
01:01:00But besides that, uh, I thought just, you know, the, the technique
01:01:04element of it, uh, the defense was great.
01:01:07That Jonathan Jones tackle unbelievable.
01:01:09What a play, what a freaking play by him.
01:01:12Um, and those are the kinds of plays that, you know, we became
01:01:14accustomed to under bill Belichick.
01:01:16So to see the defense still at that same level, Taylor in
01:01:19that regard is encouraging.
01:01:20Yep.
01:01:22I'll add, uh, quickly on, on just the defensive backfield.
01:01:26Um, you mentioned John Jones, but Kyle Duggar coming back after the, uh,
01:01:32basically getting Moss by Mike Kosicki.
01:01:33And it looks like he was going to come down, uh, with a touchdown.
01:01:36And obviously Kosicki drops it and has a nice premature gritty there.
01:01:39Um, but then for him to come back the next play and strip the ball
01:01:44out of Tanner Hudson's hand, like you gotta get beat by Kosicki.
01:01:47You come back and it's like, no, I'm not letting this shit happen
01:01:49again, for lack of a better term.
01:01:50He comes through, punches the ball out and makes a nice turnover.
01:01:53So for him to quickly bounce back from that, I thought it was huge.
01:01:55And I thought Duggar overall had a good game.
01:01:57That was probably, you know, Cleveland or Cleveland, Cincinnati was
01:02:01getting some momentum back there.
01:02:02If they got in the end zone, they would have made it a real game.
01:02:04So very impressive stuff from Duggar.
01:02:06Any Marcus Jones too, like right there to recover the fumble.
01:02:12He also had some good reps, uh, some big hits as well.
01:02:15And, uh, also just in the secondary, I thought that Jalen Hawkins
01:02:18usage was kind of interesting because that's someone we talked about as
01:02:21more of like this free safety and they kind of used him to cover tight ends
01:02:25to free up, you know, Duggar and Peppers.
01:02:27So we've had some issues covering tight ends in the past to
01:02:30let them kind of roam more.
01:02:31So, uh, that was just interesting with how they use Hawkins there in their debut.
01:02:35To add to that, it was an interesting thing they did where last year, Peppers
01:02:39was the primary free safety and man coverage, and then Duggar would
01:02:41be the man coverage guy, they flipped it where it was mostly Duggar
01:02:45playing center field and then Peppers against the tight ends.
01:02:48And what they would do sometimes is they would show that man coverage look, and
01:02:52then they would actually break into zone.
01:02:54So I know they mentioned like they wanted to show Burrow certain things.
01:02:56I think that was one of them where it was a look that they had shown on tape all
01:02:59last year and Burrow saying, okay, Duggar's down in the box, Peppers is deep.
01:03:04They're probably going to go straight man.
01:03:05And they didn't, I thought that was cool.
01:03:07And Duggar on his fourth fumble.
01:03:09We heard from Arman Watts, former Patriot, uh, that one of the
01:03:13emphases for DeMarcus Covington this off season was turnovers and sacks.
01:03:16And Kyle Duggar mentioned in practice, Gerard Mayo has been
01:03:19preaching, punching the ball.
01:03:20He said every play, even on the, you know, the more, uh, you know,
01:03:24nondescript plays or whatever, punching the ball out.
01:03:27And he mentioned that that emphasis made him more aware.
01:03:30And when Tanner Hudson, he put the ball away, trying to keep it away from
01:03:33Jalen Hawkins, cause he made a diving tackle attempt, Duggar
01:03:37saw it and punched it out.
01:03:38So that's another really cool thing behind the scenes that the Patriots
01:03:41have struggled to get turnovers consistently, especially last year.
01:03:44I think they were pretty good two years ago, but last year it was a pretty big
01:03:47issue until Jelani to buy and to grow.
01:03:49Pepper's got them going.
01:03:50Now we're seeing one of the things that they're doing in practice, a bit of a
01:03:53change maybe, and something that the players clearly weren't used to carrying
01:03:56over into games, I thought that was pretty sick.
01:03:58Yeah.
01:03:58I'm with you.
01:03:59It was, it was very noticeable the way they were punching at the ball
01:04:01consistently throughout that game.
01:04:03Anything you looked at from the defense, you're like, I want to, you know, either
01:04:07this should change moving forward, or I want to see how this develops moving
01:04:10forward, uh, Mike, honestly, no, I think this, this is the unit.
01:04:16This is what's going to keep them in these games.
01:04:17And this is the reason why I keep going back to it, but you can score 16 points
01:04:22and really not have to worry about it.
01:04:23Like, again, it's, this is more of the worries on this team of the offense.
01:04:27I really have nothing on the defense.
01:04:28The, the, the worries pregame were, can they get a pass rush
01:04:32going without Barmore or Judon?
01:04:33And they did exactly that.
01:04:34And then some with, with Keon and Joshua, two guys like that stepping up.
01:04:37Um, Gonzalez, that was a question mark.
01:04:41It wasn't a question mark, but it was okay.
01:04:42Let's see it since he hasn't played in just about a year and he did it.
01:04:46The, the, the safeties were fine and making plays and then some in the
01:04:49cornerbacks outside of Christian Gonzalez, Marcus Jones, Jonathan
01:04:52Jones were good too.
01:04:53So to, to be, to answer your question.
01:04:55No, I had, I have nothing on the defense.
01:04:57I think that's their unit.
01:04:58That's, what's going to win them games and they're going to stick to it.
01:05:02Yeah.
01:05:02I mean, it looked like a unit that had a lot of continuity, right?
01:05:07Like they were lots of disguises as you know, Taylor was just talking
01:05:10about some of those looks on the backend.
01:05:11They had Joe Burrow and hell for some of that game, that last drive,
01:05:14that last Bengals drive, like Joe Burrow didn't know what he was looking at.
01:05:18He was throwing balls in the dirt.
01:05:19So I think it was encouraging.
01:05:21Like they only blitzed on a quarter of their, their plays and they
01:05:24still got some of that pass rush.
01:05:25That was part of the game plan.
01:05:27Try to keep everything in front of them.
01:05:28What was Burrow's depth of target?
01:05:30Like five, just over five yards.
01:05:32So, uh, maybe, you know, we'll get even more pass rush depending
01:05:36on game plans going forward.
01:05:37I thought that was a really encouraging, uh, kind of start from that unit.
01:05:40So let me phrase it to you this way or sorry, Taylor, go ahead.
01:05:43And then one more question on this.
01:05:45So my nitpicks would be, uh, rub routes and like rub concepts.
01:05:49Cause it happened to Duggar on the forest fumble.
01:05:51It happened to Christian Gonzalez twice.
01:05:53Those are things that need to get cleaned up because they're going
01:05:55to play a lot of man coverage.
01:05:56And that was another big change.
01:05:57So they mentioned that to Marcus Covington, you know, was, it
01:06:00was going to be a different plan.
01:06:02They played mate way more man.
01:06:04They actually blitzed a little bit, but they didn't really
01:06:06blitz at all the last time they played Burrow.
01:06:08And I think a lot of that you saw like that's one having Christian
01:06:11Gonzalez, but also the DeMarcus Covington effect, but with that
01:06:13main coverage, really, no matter who you're going against, you
01:06:16have to be spatially aware or else like there were two or three
01:06:19times that the Bengals could add big plays that Burrow just didn't
01:06:22see, but also the complimentary pass rush, like pass rush, picked
01:06:25up the coverage at times, the coverage picked up the pass rush.
01:06:28I really liked that, but better against pick routes and
01:06:30also rush lane discipline.
01:06:32Burrow got out of the pocket too many times.
01:06:34There was once where Dietrich Wise got bumped by a running
01:06:37back and it knocked him inside.
01:06:38I'm not really going to give him crap for that because that's
01:06:40one of those just football plays like stuff happens, but Josh
01:06:43Uche gave up the edge on one play.
01:06:45I think that maybe he thought Keon White was coming around, but
01:06:48Uche also does that a decent amount.
01:06:50So it's hard to know who is necessarily at fault.
01:06:53Um, but I will say Josh Uche did have a good game overall.
01:06:56Um, and then I think there were a couple of times that Burrow was
01:06:59able to scramble up the middle.
01:07:00So rub routes and rush lane discipline are two big ones.
01:07:03Like Gino Smith had a, it was like a 30 something yard rushing
01:07:07touchdown against the Broncos.
01:07:08So you can't have that kind of stuff.
01:07:10Gino may not be who he wasn't.
01:07:12He was drafted, but you know, he can still run a little bit.
01:07:14So those would be my two things I'd like to see them.
01:07:16Yeah.
01:07:17He had a big run against Denver last week.
01:07:19I don't remember if it was for a touchdown, but I know he had a big run.
01:07:21It was for a touchdown.
01:07:22It was for a touchdown.
01:07:22I was like, is he actually going to get into the end zone?
01:07:24And if he did, I was shocked.
01:07:27Um, one more thing on this.
01:07:28So I've seen a lot of people use this game kind of as an indictment on Burrow.
01:07:33More than, you know, the Patriots kind of having a good
01:07:36plan and playing a good game.
01:07:38It, and look, I think there's parts of both.
01:07:41I do think, especially after he got hit a few times coming off that
01:07:45wrist injury, Burrow got very tentative, but I, do you guys feel differently
01:07:51about Joe Burrow coming out of that game?
01:07:52Like, I don't, I still think he's one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
01:07:55He needs to be more aggressive.
01:07:57I think he was a little afraid to get hit and that could be a problem.
01:08:00But I, you know, people are not like, Oh, Burrow confirmed fraud, whatever.
01:08:04Like, I don't think it was that kind of game.
01:08:07I don't think he's a fraud, but I do think that there's
01:08:11Bengals fans should be cautious.
01:08:13So I was talking to Ben baby, ESPN's Bengals reporter.
01:08:16He mentioned in camp, a storyline that people weren't really talking about
01:08:19and he didn't really want to run with until it kind of carried over into
01:08:22games was the fact that Burrow wasn't throwing downfield and he thought it
01:08:25did have to do with the wrist injury.
01:08:27And you're saying he's pretty conservative from what we're used to
01:08:29with Burrow, so I don't know anything about wrist injuries.
01:08:32I don't know what he's going through.
01:08:33I don't know what the timetable is before people feel comfortable.
01:08:36We all know that Joe Burrow is a good quarterback, but injuries are injuries
01:08:40and injuries do affect careers.
01:08:42And this is a guy who's gotten hurt a lot.
01:08:43So I would just say if I was a Bengals fan, I would be, I would be wary.
01:08:49I wouldn't, you know, be afraid for Burrow, but I would say, you know,
01:08:52I got to see some kind of progress in him getting better.
01:08:55Brian, my dad originally say no, because they seem
01:08:59like they always start slow and he figures it out.
01:09:01But the injury is definitely something new that they've
01:09:04never had to deal with like this.
01:09:05So, and I think, I don't know if the broadcast mentioned it or they showed
01:09:09it, like he seemed to be flexing it at times, even on the sideline, like
01:09:12it was kind of bothering him.
01:09:14And maybe that's just first game back, but yeah, like injuries are injuries
01:09:17and they can impact your career, especially when it's your throwing
01:09:20wrist for a quarterback, so that's definitely something to kind of
01:09:24watch going forward with them.
01:09:25Yeah.
01:09:26Wouldn't, wouldn't worry about him as a quarterback alone.
01:09:28The injuries are something that's clearly a storyline here.
01:09:31He had surgery.
01:09:32He had all off season and it's still bothering him.
01:09:35And that's tough.
01:09:35You mentioned it, Brian.
01:09:36He was flexing.
01:09:37Um, and somebody, I think it might've been Zoe.
01:09:39Alex on 98, five said pregame, he was trying out like multiple
01:09:43gloves on his throwing hand to see what felt most comfortable.
01:09:47So if you're dealing with that in week one, to have to do that 17 games in a
01:09:51row, playing games every single week will be interesting.
01:09:53And on the downfield stuff, you mentioned Taylor.
01:09:55I wonder too, how much that changes when T Higgins is back in the game plan.
01:09:59And you can kind of use both those guys, him and chase and, you
01:10:01know, add levels to this thing.
01:10:03Um, and even if your wrist is bothering you, you might say, Hey,
01:10:06effort, I'm going to give this guy a chance downfield instead of having to,
01:10:09to need a one in somewhere a little bit more.
01:10:11So, um, again, it's not, I'm not worried about Joe borrows, you know,
01:10:16the mentality of playing quarterback.
01:10:17I just think that he's dealing with something again, and that, that
01:10:20stinks if you're a Bengals fan.
01:10:22Yeah.
01:10:22I think it was the absence of Higgins as much as anything else, as well as
01:10:25the Marius Mims, the tackle they took in the first round, uh, with
01:10:28Trent Brown stepping in for him.
01:10:30You know, maybe you want to get burrow with sports psychologists.
01:10:32If I'm the Bengals, the real concern is Zach Taylor.
01:10:35And I don't mean this to disparage Gerard Mayo, but the reality is this is a
01:10:38guy that's coaching his first game and both, all three of his coordinators
01:10:42are in that role for the first time.
01:10:45And if you're Zach Taylor, you got freaking pants to buy a bunch of rookies.
01:10:49I mean that, and again, I don't mean like Gerard.
01:10:51That's not to say I don't think of highly of Gerard Mayo as a coach, but.
01:10:55You'd expect a guy coaching in his first game versus the guy that's been
01:10:59doing it for four or five years.
01:11:01And when do you think, and when, right, who do you think is going
01:11:04to have the advantage there?
01:11:05He used a really bad timeout at one point, it was that ridiculous
01:11:09challenge that should never have happened.
01:11:11And I know they technically won the challenge, but they should have taken
01:11:14the time out of way for it being stupid.
01:11:16Um, just the, the play calling was, was all over the place.
01:11:21If I'm the Bengals or if you, let me put it this way.
01:11:25I'll, I will tailor to these people that I can't stand the tomato can people.
01:11:30I can't believe the same people who bitched and moaned all offseason
01:11:33about the Patriots are going to go.
01:11:35Are now sitting here bringing back the tomato can argument.
01:11:37Like, do you hear yourselves cater to those people for a second?
01:11:42It's not Joe Burrow.
01:11:44It's Zach Taylor.
01:11:45It's the coach.
01:11:46They don't want to go there.
01:11:47Cause all these people are still upset.
01:11:48Belichick's no longer here and don't want to admit Gerard Mayo
01:11:51could outcoach somebody, but he did Gerard Mayo, absolutely
01:11:54outcoach Zach Taylor on Sunday.
01:11:56100%.
01:11:58And if you want to minimize the Bengals at all, it's not the
01:12:00quarterback, it's the coach.
01:12:02Cause he was bad in that game.
01:12:03He was really bad in one area in particular.
01:12:06And when I say coach, that also means coaching staff as a whole on both
01:12:09sides, the Patriots coaching staff outcoached the Bengals coaching staff.
01:12:14One place that really, really, really shown through was on special teams.
01:12:19And they have that first play of the game.
01:12:21Dell Pettis moves early on the kickoff.
01:12:23And you're like, Oh boy, here we go again.
01:12:25After that.
01:12:26And I don't say it's pick on Dell Pettis, but like it's kind of a stark
01:12:29transition because after that masterclass, that's the word I've
01:12:33been using him to keep using it.
01:12:34Special teams masterclass in every single phase, they wanted the kickoffs
01:12:39to go through the end zone and noise the crap out of me.
01:12:41I want to see these returns, but that's a strategy.
01:12:43They executed it.
01:12:44The kickoff return.
01:12:46That's a lot to handle.
01:12:47First time.
01:12:47These things are like really real and it, and it worked.
01:12:51Um, the punt, obviously the punt game was great.
01:12:54Bryce Beringer picked off.
01:12:55We left up, uh, picked up.
01:12:57We left off the summer.
01:12:58Brennan Schooler was getting right down the field.
01:13:01We saw Joe Cardona force a fumble.
01:13:03They, they, Charlie Jones really had no clue what he was looking at because
01:13:06it's, you're trying to set something up on the return.
01:13:08Charlie Jones was lost looking at whatever the Patriots are throwing at him.
01:13:11Pun return was fine.
01:13:12It Reco was, uh, or Rico, the, the Bengals punter was great.
01:13:16And he, he actually had a great game and flipped the field a
01:13:19few times and a few touchbacks.
01:13:20But there was one returned by Marcus Jones.
01:13:22He didn't have a ton of room to work with, but he was able to still pick up
01:13:2410 yards at a crucial point in the game.
01:13:27So, so this, if this team's going to win, if this team's going to win,
01:13:31this is how they're going to have to win.
01:13:32They're going to have to do it on the margins.
01:13:34They're going to have to find hidden yardage and be better at areas of the
01:13:37game that other teams maybe don't focus on that special teams.
01:13:41They don't win on Sunday without that kind of high level special
01:13:45team's performance, uh, Brian.
01:13:47That looked like a prime Patriots, Belichick special
01:13:50team's performance right there.
01:13:51They were awesome.
01:13:52And I don't, did you even mention Joey Sly making three field goals or
01:13:56how nice is it to not have to like hold your breath on a 32 yard?
01:14:00Right?
01:14:00Like I know they were all 30 yarders, I think, but just easy.
01:14:04They went in, they went in and it was nice and easy right through the middle.
01:14:08Like no stress and nine points.
01:14:10That's huge in that, that low scoring game.
01:14:12So that, it was a really good performance from that unit.
01:14:15Uh, you mentioned Brendan schooler.
01:14:16Like that was a guy who maybe at the end of last year, we started
01:14:19having some questions, a lot of penalties and some missed tackles.
01:14:22He was awesome.
01:14:23Like three, I think he had three tackles and he was right in someone
01:14:27else's face, uh, on a fair catch.
01:14:29Like we've been in and out of the sidelines at times.
01:14:32He, he was amazing, you know, uh, credit to Joe Cardona getting down
01:14:35there, uh, kind of an unheralded position, but gets down there and make a play.
01:14:39So that whole unit, uh, as a whole was just very impressive and kind of Jeremy
01:14:43Sprinter's, uh, debut as a coordinator there as well.
01:14:47Taylor.
01:14:48So kind of talking about the Zach Taylor thing.
01:14:50One thing, Dan Orlovsky touched on this.
01:14:52He kind of said they were conservative and they're a little soft.
01:14:55And even Mike, when we were talking to Joe Goodbury, how he mentioned
01:14:58they always run from a shotgun, not a lot of under center stuff.
01:15:00And we know we're not a very good run team.
01:15:03Look at the chiefs, look at the bills.
01:15:05What have they tried to do in recent seasons?
01:15:08Get an offensive line that could run the ball, get under center and pound
01:15:11the rock so that their superstar quarterbacks didn't have to put the
01:15:15game on their shoulders all the time.
01:15:17That's winning football.
01:15:19Having a great quarterback obviously allows you to do other
01:15:21things and you can pass more.
01:15:23At the end of the day, this is a game about physicality.
01:15:26No team wants to get punched in the mouth play after play after play.
01:15:30These are human beings.
01:15:31Eventually you get tired, you get discouraged.
01:15:34Like that's, that's football.
01:15:35All the cliches they're there for a reason.
01:15:36This is a, this is a gladiator sport.
01:15:39And the fact that the bangles, like that was one of the biggest reasons
01:15:41I thought that the Patriots can win.
01:15:43Obviously T Higgins and Jamar Chase's situations were a big part of it, but
01:15:47I'm just like the bangles don't really scare me outside of their passing attack.
01:15:51And the Patriots, if you're a one dimensional team, you're not going to
01:15:53do much against the Patriots defense.
01:15:55Anytime we see them on their heels, it's like the dolphins where the game is
01:15:59close and the dolphins can still run into a, just basically has to not mess up.
01:16:03And obviously there've been times where the offense kind of screwed them as well,
01:16:06but that was really one of my biggest takeaways was with Gerard Mayo.
01:16:09If people keep saying he's a player's coach, the reason he pushes back against
01:16:12it is because players coach kind of implies that you let the players run things.
01:16:15And like, you're a little soft on them.
01:16:17That's not the case.
01:16:18He even mentioned after the game, he's like, don't get mad at us this week when
01:16:21like you're running and we're hard on you because we want you to get better.
01:16:24Like that's the stuff that bill did, but obviously I think Mayo is probably
01:16:27going to have a bit of a softer, more empathetic touch, but I mean, seeing
01:16:31the comparison between these two guys, the way that this game was coached and
01:16:35handled, it makes me more excited about Gerard Mayo, because this is not some
01:16:39guy who's going to be happy with a win.
01:16:41Who's going to be complacent.
01:16:42He wants to punish teams.
01:16:44He wants to be the aggressor in all these matchups.
01:16:47And when you go up against a playoff team where it's like, yeah, you can win with
01:16:50finesse, but you're not going to win against the Patriots, even when they
01:16:53don't have much of a passing attack.
01:16:54So, and then the special teams obviously were fantastic as well.
01:16:57And being able to get impact plays, not even not negatives, not even just
01:17:01moderate, you know, success or whatever, but really making plays.
01:17:05I thought that was awesome.
01:17:06So yeah, I'm just, I'm talking about, I'm getting more fired up, man.
01:17:09The Gerard Mayo era off to a very exciting start.
01:17:11He's not a player's coach.
01:17:12No victory.
01:17:13Monday's out here.
01:17:14No way.
01:17:15He was like, he was pissed that that got brought up.
01:17:17Yeah.
01:17:18Better work to do one game.
01:17:20Yeah, right.
01:17:21That was good.
01:17:23Uh, I guess any final thoughts here before I do have one more special team
01:17:26side and we'll do final thoughts to wrap it up a quick check in on the punter
01:17:29league, all four of these guys, one, I said, I set the, I set the scoring.
01:17:39Like, I mean, I, we, me and Brian had the last picks.
01:17:44People say, Oh, all the CLNS guys.
01:17:46They think that there's some collusion in there.
01:17:48Yes.
01:17:48There was a blocked punt that led to me winning seven to negative 11, but
01:17:53even without that, I still wouldn't want it would have been a seven to four.
01:17:56So Brian got lucky.
01:17:58Tommy Townsend had a block punch on his bench.
01:18:00Him and Taylor were the highest scores this week.
01:18:02Mike won at the last second.
01:18:04One to negative one.
01:18:06Um, yeah, good.
01:18:08Did you, did anyone are sneaky?
01:18:12Yeah.
01:18:12So it doesn't score the fair catches till the game's entirely over.
01:18:16So unless you're watching the game, you don't really know how many points you
01:18:19have, um, the whole thing's ridiculous.
01:18:21And I had a ton of fun with that this week.
01:18:22I don't know about you guys.
01:18:24Yeah, it was awesome.
01:18:25But yeah, I was up nine to one and it looked over and, you know, Barth, you
01:18:30were saying I was building monsters over here, like Billy Oh, and then I wake up
01:18:34Monday morning and check it.
01:18:35It's like nine to eight and I'm like, what the hell happened?
01:18:38But I, I still won.
01:18:39So, um, but yeah, I was lucky it didn't come down to my bench.
01:18:43Cause Tommy Townsend had negative 14 or something, but, uh, good, good,
01:18:48good week one from the boys.
01:18:50I just glitched out, but Ryan Stonehouse had negative 14.
01:18:53Did we see that?
01:18:55Yeah.
01:18:55Cause he had a pump.
01:18:56Yeah.
01:18:56That's insane.
01:18:58No fake puns.
01:18:59So nobody got the 15 point bonus.
01:19:01Uh, any final thoughts on the Patriots before we move on here?
01:19:04Uh, no, I wouldn't, it's not even a Patriots, but I honestly just scrolled
01:19:07past and I thought, um, uh, Jordan Mason for the 49ers having a great game and
01:19:13then having the ruin because people just had to get the information out of him
01:19:17about when he was going to start.
01:19:19That sucked, man.
01:19:20That was, that's really been upsetting me.
01:19:22That poor guy, like no one expected it.
01:19:24He has a monster game and then he's pissed off because he thought he screwed up.
01:19:28I'm sorry.
01:19:28That was so off track, but like,
01:19:31as somebody who lost in fantasy, because I had Christian
01:19:35McCaffrey in the lineup.
01:19:36I don't blame Jordan Mason, but it does stink that if they did know Friday,
01:19:41that that wasn't reported because I could have picked up Jordan Mason.
01:19:44I could have started somebody else.
01:19:45Now I go back and forth on this as I do with pretty much everything where on one
01:19:50hand, it's a fan's league, right?
01:19:52So this information should be available.
01:19:54They shouldn't be hiding things because they they're in bed with the sports
01:19:57betting leagues, their fantasy football is massive.
01:20:00And when this stuff happens, it stinks.
01:20:01But at the same time, why do we need to know if Christian McCaffrey is
01:20:05actually ready on Friday versus Sunday?
01:20:06That's game plan.
01:20:07That's strategy.
01:20:08That's like, and yes, there are rules in place that you have to abide by them.
01:20:12But if they did know on Friday as a Christian McCaffrey owner, I kind
01:20:17of wish I knew that on Friday.
01:20:19Well, let's remember there's, there's other elements here on, in addition
01:20:23to the fantasy sports community, there's a sports betting community, right?
01:20:26And they're obviously tied in with the networks, but if I keep talking
01:20:29about that, I'm pretty sure my camera's going to shut off.
01:20:31So, um, shout out Sean Sharania.
01:20:34But anyway, uh, we'll wrap it up there.
01:20:37Uh, Patriots daily.
01:20:39We'll be back with another show tomorrow.
01:20:40I'm guessing today we're actually doing our first film breakdown.
01:20:45We're going to be talking about Jacoby, Raimondre, Gonzo, Keon White.
01:20:48Going to be a really fun show.
01:20:50I'm going to be live.
01:20:51So you guys can comment if we're like breaking it down and
01:20:53you want to know anything else.
01:20:54We'll try to provide as much context as we can, but I'm super fired up about it.
01:20:57We've been trying to figure out how exactly to do this.
01:21:00Um, I wasn't able to do a ton of film reviews last year because halfway
01:21:03through the year, John was like, no one wants to know.
01:21:05No one cares.
01:21:06Let's just get to the news.
01:21:07Cause at that point we were basically moving on to next year.
01:21:09So yeah, it's going to be a fun episode.
01:21:114 PM.
01:21:12Stay tuned.
01:21:134 PM.
01:21:15All right.
01:21:15And, uh, me and Brian, we'll be back with our game preview on Thursday.
01:21:19I think just with, with next week being a short week, the plan kind of right now.
01:21:23And, and I mean, this will be flexible.
01:21:25So follow us on Twitter.
01:21:27You can see our, um, you can see our handles down there on the bottom.
01:21:30I think the plan right now with the short week coming up is to do the next
01:21:33crossover after the jets game.
01:21:36So after the Thursday night game, so we'll, we'll still have our regular
01:21:39schedules, uh, between now and then, but, uh, that's the plan as things stand right
01:21:44now. So, uh, until the next one for Taylor cows, for Brian Heinz, for my
01:21:47Catholic, I'm Alex Barth.
01:21:49Thanks for tuning in.
01:21:50We'll talk to you next time.
