00:00:00And now it's.
00:00:10I am joined by Robert Griffin, the third James White field.
00:00:14Yes.
00:00:15All right.
00:00:16So first play, we're going to look at second into one of the
00:00:18Patriots first offensive plays.
00:00:25Hey, still muted.
00:00:27What's going on, everyone?
00:00:28My Cadillac Taylor Kyle's here for CLS media back with another
00:00:32episode of pads daily.
00:00:33We tried something new on the back end.
00:00:35Nothing really worked.
00:00:36I'm still frozen.
00:00:37I'm still muted at the front, but that's okay because we figured
00:00:39it out last week on how we're going to do our film review.
00:00:42And today we're back with another one.
00:00:44It's Tuesday, which means it's tape Tuesday.
00:00:46And me and Taylor are here to break down Patriots versus Seahawks.
00:00:50The Patriots lose 23 to 20.
00:00:52Still obviously a lot to take away.
00:00:54Once you check out the all 22 Taylor did.
00:00:56So to the fullest, I did.
00:00:58So a little bit, I got a little bit of adjustment.
00:01:00I didn't break it down as fully as he did, but I did take a look
00:01:03at some stuff.
00:01:04So we're going to break it all down.
00:01:05We got four, four sort of storylines about how, how this game went
00:01:09down, what the Patriots can take of it.
00:01:11Good.
00:01:12What the Patriots can do from it and try and improve.
00:01:14But before we dive into it, Taylor, a couple of things around,
00:01:19around the team, non non film wise, a couple of roster moves,
00:01:23a couple of injury reports.
00:01:25And so we'll start with the roster moves before we get into,
00:01:27before we get into the industry, the injury, excuse me.
00:01:30And that is that the Patriots finally signed Michael Jordan to the
00:01:3353 man roster.
00:01:34So he started the first two games with city.
00:01:36So out at left tackle.
00:01:38And they also signed safety, Mark Perry and a cornerback DJ James
00:01:42to the practice squad.
00:01:44And they also released AJ Thomas and somebody else.
00:01:46I can't remember the other guy's name, but I think.
00:01:48Yeah, that, that sounds right.
00:01:51So, but the, the most important one, obviously here being Michael
00:01:55Jordan gets elevated to the 53.
00:01:57They make that official.
00:01:58Now I wonder if that is simply roster logistics, because, you know,
00:02:03you can only get three elevations.
00:02:04He used his first two after the third one, he can't come up anymore.
00:02:07I also wonder if you know what it means for the health of city.
00:02:10So, because they still want Jordan there to be that guy.
00:02:14And now granted, we haven't heard much on.
00:02:17So he hasn't been placed on IR yet.
00:02:19If he misses the first four games, that's going to make me mad because
00:02:22you could have just put them on IR and kind of saved a roster spot.
00:02:24Now that's just roster gymnastics and logistics, but long story short,
00:02:28Patriots elevate Michael Jordan.
00:02:29What do you think of it?
00:02:30Do you like the move?
00:02:31He's played pretty well over the first couple of weeks.
00:02:32He's probably been.
00:02:33Maybe not their most consistent linebacker, their most consistent lineman.
00:02:37That's obviously been David Andrews, but thoughts on Jordan being
00:02:40officially on the active roster.
00:02:42Yeah.
00:02:43One also, I got to correct myself.
00:02:44It was Jacqueline Roy is a nose tackle.
00:02:46They recently signed.
00:02:47They let go of AJ Thomas and Evandy Rigby.
00:02:50Oh, that's the one.
00:02:51Okay.
00:02:52Yeah, that's what it was.
00:02:53I just wanted to make sure I wasn't putting bad news out there.
00:02:54But yeah, Michael Jordan's probably been their quietest offensive lineman
00:02:57and someone who like really hasn't been getting a lot of crap and he
00:03:00shouldn't be because honestly, he's been solid for a guy who started on
00:03:03the practice squad and had to be elevated originally.
00:03:06He's given them some pretty quality play.
00:03:08We'll get into it, but his run blocking with Dave Andrews
00:03:10looked really good at times.
00:03:12He's still very much a work in progress, but we've heard Andrews
00:03:15and offensive line coach Scott Peters mentioned how he's taken to this
00:03:18system and is really trying to get better.
00:03:20And he's even mentioned how it's helped him improve in his awareness
00:03:23of different techniques.
00:03:24And it's shown now, obviously city.
00:03:26So is the guy you'd like to have out there.
00:03:28He was having some glaring mistakes at times in the preseason,
00:03:31but still the highs looked high and you could see that he was clearly
00:03:34growing and taking on to a Scott Peter strike system with the independent
00:03:38hand use, which getting guys on the ground,
00:03:40even when he was in pass protection.
00:03:42So again, I don't think you want Michael Jordan out there for another
00:03:46month, if you can help it, but if they had to considering, you know,
00:03:50how awful it would be if you knew, you know,
00:03:53going into the summer that city.
00:03:54So it was going to miss time.
00:03:55I think a lot of people would have been panicking,
00:03:57especially if you said that Mike and Wendy was spending time at right
00:03:59tackle.
00:04:00So, you know, they can do a lot worse than Michael Jordan.
00:04:02And I think they're really lucky that he was one of the first guys that
00:04:05they actually brought in for this new regime.
00:04:06Yeah, I think you're totally right.
00:04:08It's, it's funny you say it that way, because if,
00:04:10if we looked at this team throughout, you know,
00:04:12in the middle of July and it was like,
00:04:13Michael Jordan is their starting left guard,
00:04:15we probably all would have panicked and maybe rightfully so at that time,
00:04:18but he kind of,
00:04:19he really got thrown into the fire here really late and has been drinking
00:04:23through the fire hose and done so pretty well.
00:04:25And he does so well enough to be on the active roster, right?
00:04:28I mean, city.
00:04:29So gets hurt in the last, last preseason game.
00:04:32Then they cut Michael Jordan.
00:04:33He ended up coming back on the practice squad.
00:04:35So he in theory didn't do enough to make the team, but you know,
00:04:38stood, stood with it plays well when he's elevated and, you know,
00:04:42now gets rewarded for it.
00:04:43So if anything, his play has warranted the warranted him,
00:04:47I guess that sort of swing guard role, right.
00:04:50You know,
00:04:51when city so comes back someone that they can rely on in a pinch and come
00:04:54in and take a couple of snaps.
00:04:56Now, Cole strangers,
00:04:57obviously someone who you watch to see if he can ever come back at that
00:05:00position city.
00:05:01So we'll see what happens there.
00:05:02But for now it looks like it's going to continue to be Michael Jordan,
00:05:05at least this week on a short week coming up against the jets.
00:05:08Now, speaking of people coming back for a short week against the jets,
00:05:12it sounded like linebacker Jawan Bentley,
00:05:15that that was going to be the case.
00:05:16Jeremy Fowler reported early on yesterday that the Patriots were optimistic
00:05:20about Jawan Bentley shoulder injury,
00:05:22and that it didn't seem serious and that they thought that he could come
00:05:24back against, against the jets on Thursday,
00:05:27but then it was reported later on that evening or yesterday evening for me
00:05:32is actually done.
00:05:33If you haven't heard already,
00:05:35which I'm sure you probably have,
00:05:36but this is your first time hearing it.
00:05:37Jawan Bentley is done at least according to the interoperable for the season
00:05:42with a torn pack.
00:05:44Now it's been followed up with reporting from,
00:05:46I believe Chris price had it from the box.
00:05:48Yeah.
00:05:49You want me to read the exact thing?
00:05:50Yeah,
00:05:51go for it.
00:05:52He checked around and found out some,
00:05:53a little bit better of news.
00:05:54So pricing said per league source,
00:05:56the knee injury,
00:05:57that offensive tackle of their,
00:05:58Oh,
00:05:59I'm sorry.
00:06:00I'm looking at a different thing.
00:06:01I'm sorry.
00:06:02He wasn't.
00:06:03Yeah,
00:06:04I'm sorry.
00:06:05I was thinking the wrong thing.
00:06:06I reported a couple of really good reports from pricey,
00:06:08but on Bentley just connected with the team source who confirmed the linebacker
00:06:11would be out for an extended period of time,
00:06:14but added,
00:06:15it might be premature to say the season.
00:06:17So I guess another injury update that's relevant.
00:06:19There is the dairy low is considered day to day.
00:06:21We were thinking that Kate and Wallace might have to start at left tackle.
00:06:24So those are two pretty big injury related news pieces of news.
00:06:28This Bentley stuff is really bizarre that we've gotten,
00:06:31you know,
00:06:32from two verified and very well-known reporters that he was going to be okay.
00:06:37And now he's not.
00:06:38And now Chris price,
00:06:39who obviously is very close to the team in his own right of saying that it's
00:06:42not that bad.
00:06:43So,
00:06:44you know,
00:06:45I have no idea what's going on,
00:06:46but we do have to say to ourselves,
00:06:49what happens if Bentley does,
00:06:50you know,
00:06:51obviously mis-extended time,
00:06:52but obviously the season as well,
00:06:53Jelani to buy told us in the summer.
00:06:55Yeah.
00:06:56I specifically asked him,
00:06:57do you want to have a bigger role in the dime package?
00:06:59Because usually Juwan Bentley,
00:07:01when they go with like seven defensive backs is the only linebacker that
00:07:05they'll have on the field last year,
00:07:07when he got hurt for a couple of games that became Jelani to buy.
00:07:10And he said that he would like to be on the field for every down for this
00:07:13team.
00:07:14Now this season,
00:07:15it was more of the same.
00:07:16He was really only on the field for the nickel packages.
00:07:18When they did have those two linebackers where he can play on the ball,
00:07:21off the ball,
00:07:22whatever.
00:07:23Now I think Jelani to buy is going to have that dime linebacker role.
00:07:26His role in nickel is still going to be the same.
00:07:28I think Rayquan McMillan steps up.
00:07:30Like we saw last week as that main Mike linebacker that we saw from Juwan,
00:07:34Juwan Bentley,
00:07:35where he doesn't really play on the line of scrimmage.
00:07:37He's usually like rock solid in the middle.
00:07:39And then from a communications perspective,
00:07:41we know that Kyle Duggar got the green dot.
00:07:43Once Juwan Bentley went down,
00:07:45Gerard Mayo said that Duggar did a really great job.
00:07:47Obviously he's been in this defense for years.
00:07:49Very few people know it better than he does.
00:07:51So those are the adjustments that Patriots are probably going to have to
00:07:54make.
00:07:55Joe Giles,
00:07:56Harris could potentially be elevated from the practice squad.
00:07:58They do have Christian Ellis who did have some good moments in the preseason,
00:08:01but he's also more of a special teamer.
00:08:03And I feel like Joe Giles Harris in the NFL does have more experience as an
00:08:06actual linebacker got his hands on a ton of passes over the summer.
00:08:10So just the moves that we could potentially see them make at the linebacker
00:08:13level.
00:08:14Also interesting that the Fendi Rigby got cut a practice squad linebacker to
00:08:17make room for a cornerback and a safety,
00:08:20but DJ James and Mark Perry on another note,
00:08:23two guys that I really liked for the Patriots in the pre draft process as
00:08:26developmental pieces.
00:08:27So yeah,
00:08:28Juwan Bentley would obviously be a massive loss as a captain and a leader and
00:08:32someone who does so many things that he doesn't get a lot of credit for on
00:08:35this defense,
00:08:36but they are in good hands with Jelani to buy.
00:08:38If Rayquan Mcmillan is healthy,
00:08:39I think he can be solid in that role.
00:08:41And obviously the hope is that Sione Takitaki at some point comes off the
00:08:45pup list and can slide into one of those kinds of roles and give them some
00:08:48more flexibility.
00:08:49Yeah.
00:08:50Two,
00:08:51two quick notes on Bentley again,
00:08:52before we,
00:08:53before we get into the actual film from,
00:08:54from Sunday's game is just the,
00:08:56the communication standpoint that you mentioned is a whole nother hurdle.
00:09:00And now I know Duggar took it over during the game and it seemed like things
00:09:03went rather smoothly,
00:09:04but you know,
00:09:05when you work on how you're going to call your defense for an entire,
00:09:09an entire summer,
00:09:10and it's really the last couple of seasons Bentley has been out there as that
00:09:13guy.
00:09:14And you have to turn that entire thing over to somebody new on a short week.
00:09:17That's going to be a challenge.
00:09:18Now look,
00:09:19they I'm sure they practice for things like this and Duggar kind of sits in
00:09:22that sits in the wings and understands that this is what I'm going to have to
00:09:25do.
00:09:26If my numbers called for this role,
00:09:27but that's just an,
00:09:28an added layer to the on-field stuff at the linebackers mission position is
00:09:32also actually getting the plays in and understanding who's where and when and
00:09:36how and et cetera.
00:09:37So that's a,
00:09:38that's something of note.
00:09:39And then the other thing on the,
00:09:40on the reporting,
00:09:41someone tweeted something like,
00:09:42like,
00:09:43is this the Patriots trying to like sniff out a rat in,
00:09:46in the building and figure out who is actually leaking the leaking to sources
00:09:49and who knows what,
00:09:50but my,
00:09:51my take on it was simply Fowler got a report early in the day from somebody
00:09:56inside the building.
00:09:57They didn't think anything was wrong.
00:09:59They thought that he was going to be okay.
00:10:00Then they go for second opinions.
00:10:02Then they go for further testing and X-ray and MRI,
00:10:05whatever it could have been to figure out that no,
00:10:07his,
00:10:08his pack is actually torn and this is going to be more serious.
00:10:10So that,
00:10:11that's kind of been my read on it.
00:10:12I don't know if that's true,
00:10:13but I don't think this is anything where anyone was given false information or
00:10:18somebody was putting out false information.
00:10:19I feel like simply news changed.
00:10:22Fowler got something early rapid port comes out later and they go from there,
00:10:25but yeah,
00:10:26tough news in general that at least from,
00:10:28from the look of it,
00:10:29Bentley is going to have miss at least an extended period of time on the
00:10:32defense.
00:10:33So that is that.
00:10:34All right,
00:10:35Taylor,
00:10:36let's dive into the film,
00:10:37but before we do quick word from our friends over at prize picks,
00:10:40because prize picks now that football is back,
00:10:42prize picks is America's number one daily fantasy sports app with over 5
00:10:47million active members.
00:10:49It's the easiest and most exciting way to play daily fantasy sports.
00:10:52And unlike the other apps,
00:10:53prize picks on prospects is just do it against the numbers.
00:10:56You pick more or less on two to six player star projections.
00:10:59Watch the winnings roll in admittedly on a little bit of a,
00:11:03a cold streak.
00:11:04Taylor with our prize picks CLNS picks last night,
00:11:07Kirk cousins,
00:11:08that last drive put him at more than 225 and a half passing yards.
00:11:12I had him at less.
00:11:13Unfortunately,
00:11:14it didn't look great in that game,
00:11:15but that,
00:11:16that Philly defense down the stretch,
00:11:18they couldn't get anything done on,
00:11:19on Atlanta cousins goes down,
00:11:21dinks and dunks scores the game when he touched down to Drake London.
00:11:24So lost last week's lineup,
00:11:25but her last night's lineup,
00:11:27but hoping to get more going on Thursday night,
00:11:30Patriots versus jets.
00:11:31So if you download the app today,
00:11:33right now you can make a lineup for pats versus jets,
00:11:35but you can also add Caleb Williams at just over a half a passing yard as a

00:11:42So make sure you go do that.
00:11:44You can win up to 100 times your money on prospects with as little as four
00:11:47correct picks.
00:11:48So make sure you head over there today and get to it.
00:11:51Download the app,
00:11:52use code CLNS,
00:11:53get $50 instantly.

00:11:55that's code CLNS on prospects to get $50 instantly.

00:12:00you don't even need to win to receive that bonus.
00:12:02You get it guaranteed prize picks,
00:12:04run your game.
00:12:06All right,
00:12:07I'm pulling down the video.
00:12:08Now we're messed up,
00:12:09but it doesn't matter,
00:12:10Taylor,
00:12:11because we're going to pull up some film on Patriots versus Patriots versus
00:12:14Seahawks.
00:12:15So the way we're going to try and tell the story here is look at some of
00:12:19the good stuff,
00:12:20then look at some of the bad stuff.
00:12:21So they lose the game.
00:12:23So obviously there's things to improve,
00:12:25but let's look at first and foremost,
00:12:27Christian Gonzalez,
00:12:28how he matched up against DK Metcalf.
00:12:30And we wrote a little bit about this Taylor on CLNS media.com.
00:12:33So you may have already read it on there.
00:12:34You may have already seen it on Twitter,
00:12:36but we're going to dive a little deeper here into how Gonzo originally in this
00:12:39game,
00:12:40DK Metcalf had his number,
00:12:41got physical with him.
00:12:42And then Gonzalez bounced back,
00:12:44comes back to his strengths,
00:12:45uses,
00:12:46you know,
00:12:47frankly,
00:12:48his,
00:12:49his great cornerback technique bounces back and is able to cover him up.
00:12:51And,
00:12:52you know,
00:12:53down the stretch,
00:12:54I think in the final stat line was that Gonzo only let up like three catches
00:12:56on him when he was in coverage compared to the 10,
00:12:58400 yards and a touchdown that DK actually had.
00:13:00So how did he do it?
00:13:01Pull it up and let's talk through it.
00:13:03Yeah.
00:13:04So this is another game where Christian Gonzalez was the main person
00:13:07shadowing,
00:13:08not only the main person,
00:13:09he was the person shadowing DK Metcalf throughout the game.
00:13:11We saw that against Jamar chase once again,
00:13:14for the second week in a row,
00:13:15the only time you didn't see Jamar chase,
00:13:18or I'm sorry,
00:13:19Christian Gonzalez on DK Metcalf was when the Patriots were playing cover
00:13:22too.
00:13:23And Gonzalez was one of those cloud or flat defenders with DK Metcalf
00:13:26somewhere in the slot.
00:13:27So they continue to trust Christian Gonzalez on an Island in these big
00:13:30moments early on,
00:13:31honestly,
00:13:32it was not pretty for Christian Gonzalez.
00:13:34And we're going to see that here.
00:13:36I'm not going to harp on any of these plays.
00:13:38It's just necessary to understand where exactly this game started out
00:13:41because I asked Christian Gonzalez actually leading up to the week.
00:13:44How do you really want to play a guy like DK Metcalf?
00:13:46Do you want to get physical with him?
00:13:48Do you want to out athlete him?
00:13:49And then Gonzo goes,
00:13:50well,
00:13:51he's a pretty great athlete.
00:13:52I'm like,
00:13:53yeah,
00:13:54but you are too.
00:13:55Because my thought was DK is such a unicorn and that obviously he's big
00:13:59and he's fast and you just don't see people built like him in the NFL.
00:14:03He's also one of the strongest,
00:14:04most powerful wide receivers in the NFL like AJ Brown,
00:14:08but I put him a tick higher than that.
00:14:10So with Gonzalez is physical as he is,
00:14:12you know,
00:14:13and he likes to play his press.
00:14:14I was like,
00:14:15I don't know if that's a good idea against DK.
00:14:17Cause there just aren't a lot of people built to handle his physicality
00:14:20other than like Brandon Browner from,
00:14:22you know,
00:14:23right.
00:14:24You know,
00:14:25he's a super bowl run.
00:14:26So I say all that as a precursor to what's about to happen.
00:14:28Cause it was ugly for Gonzo early on.
00:14:30DK Metcalf known as a bully,
00:14:32like a guy who tries to impose his will.
00:14:34And that's pretty much what happened early on in this game.
00:14:37What in the world has happened there?
00:14:38All right,
00:14:39here we go.
00:14:40So right at the bottom of the screen,
00:14:42DK throws them pretty much no flag or anything.
00:14:46This is just DK on the backside of the route,
00:14:49letting you know,
00:14:50young blood,
00:14:51this is not going to be fun for you.
00:14:52It's not your league just yet.
00:14:54Christian Gonzalez.
00:14:55I'm still a man in this situation.
00:14:56Yeah.
00:14:57Right.
00:14:58But her tries it out and DK just shoves into the ground.
00:15:00Then we get another one where they're outside.
00:15:02This one was kind of tough.
00:15:03Yeah.
00:15:04Okay.
00:15:05It's going to fake.
00:15:06Like he's breaking outside.
00:15:07Christian Gonzalez is playing catch technique where this time he's like,
00:15:10all right,
00:15:11I'm not going to get money.
00:15:12We monitor with you.
00:15:13I'm going to try to catch you at the top of your break.
00:15:14It happens is DK throws an outside move.
00:15:16Christian Gonzalez squats on it.
00:15:18Realizes DK is breaking back inside,
00:15:20but DK also is going to do a great job using his hands to swat any
00:15:24potential contact.
00:15:25And Gonzo ends up once again,
00:15:28on the,
00:15:29on the ground.
00:15:30This is bizarre.
00:15:31I've never seen this from Gonzalez.
00:15:33Usually his balance is great.
00:15:34He is always in control of reps.
00:15:36So seeing this,
00:15:37I was,
00:15:38I literally FaceTime during the guys,
00:15:39I was like,
00:15:40oh,
00:15:41fellas,
00:15:42I don't know what happened.
00:15:43DK.
00:15:44Yeah.
00:15:45That one reminded me a little bit.
00:15:47And obviously it's not the same route.
00:15:49It's not the same concept or anything,
00:15:50but last week when we were breaking them down against Jamar chase,
00:15:52where there was the play where chase beat him on third down,
00:15:55because Gonzo basically what had that sort of foot fire thing going on and
00:15:59didn't get,
00:16:00get on top of chase in time where here it's,
00:16:01it's similar where it's almost like he's not trusting himself and he's
00:16:04getting a little anxious.
00:16:05And he's like,
00:16:06where's the,
00:16:07where's he going to go?
00:16:08Where's he going to go?
00:16:09Instead of just stay remaining calm,
00:16:10like he ends up doing later in the game and staying with him hip on hip
00:16:13and kind of just go going through DK's row and essentially running it for
00:16:17him later on here.
00:16:18He really catches them.
00:16:19He's backing up and DK basically sees it makes the,
00:16:22the move on him.
00:16:23And then he's toast.
00:16:24Yeah.
00:16:25And honestly,
00:16:26I don't even hate the technique necessarily from Gonzo.
00:16:28Cause I think he does a good job.
00:16:29Like he clearly knows where the sticks are.
00:16:31Right.
00:16:32Cause the sticks for him are this line right here.
00:16:35So he wants to force DK to at least get here and then he's going to break.
00:16:39See,
00:16:40so he gives it a little more room,
00:16:41but then it's just tough at that point because DK is such a big guy.
00:16:44He's got to have a steam.
00:16:45You want to slow him down at least.
00:16:48And I think that's Gonzo's mentality here.
00:16:50It's just,
00:16:51he misses because DK setting him up.
00:16:53And then there's one more play where DK kind of asserts his dominance.
00:16:56This is just going to be a screen.
00:16:57It's not even like Gonzo's covering him,
00:16:59but it's just another example of DK being like, yeah,
00:17:01this is going to be a long day for you.
00:17:03If you try to get physical with me,
00:17:05pushes him at the end of the block.
00:17:07Now this ended up being offensive pass interference from DK and Christian
00:17:11Gonzalez also got called for a phantom face mask.
00:17:14You shouldn't have gotten called for this because it's actually under the
00:17:17chin strap,
00:17:18not actually the face mask.
00:17:19I missed that at first watching it live.
00:17:21So both guys get flagged.
00:17:22It's not setting penalty,
00:17:23but again,
00:17:24a tone setting play from Christian Gonzalez saying,
00:17:27yeah,
00:17:28I'm going to lock you up and push you and finish.
00:17:31So once again,
00:17:32the lesson learned,
00:17:33right?
00:17:34So the lesson learned is you don't want DK to get his hands on you.
00:17:37This man's hands are toxic.
00:17:39All right.
00:17:41Christian Gonzalez,
00:17:42though,
00:17:43showing the maturity to be able to switch up his approach.
00:17:45Some corners may say,
00:17:46you know what?
00:17:47No,
00:17:48I'm going to win this eventually.
00:17:49And then pound their head against the wall until they're not done.
00:17:51Right.
00:17:52But Gonzo said until they're,
00:17:53until they're fighting like Andre Johnson and Courtland Finnegan that time.
00:17:56Exactly.
00:17:57I'm glad it didn't get there.
00:17:58Cause Gonzo,
00:17:59you know,
00:18:00he'll pay it forward a little bit,
00:18:01but he also kept his head square.
00:18:02But so what Christian Gonzalez did was instead of trying to really catch
00:18:05necessarily DK at the top of his routes,
00:18:07he said,
00:18:08I'm just going to use my crazy fluidity and my length to just mirror you.
00:18:12Like,
00:18:13I'm not going to try to touch you.
00:18:14I just want to give myself a chance at the catch point and I'll close
00:18:16then.
00:18:17And this is an example of why Christian Gonzalez can do that because his
00:18:21hip fluidity is so rare for a guy who's like six to like 200 something
00:18:25pounds.
00:18:26Like he should not be able to move the way he does look at the hip sync,
00:18:29not a crazy route from decaf,
00:18:31but the ability to be on top of the route and then break like this.
00:18:37If this was thrown,
00:18:38Gonzo could have undercut it or at least been competitive enough to make a
00:18:41play.
00:18:42And again,
00:18:43I understand the DK is not exactly running full speed here,
00:18:45but still the hip drop in fluidity from there,
00:18:48from God,
00:18:49that's perfect tool that he's going to use throughout the game to beat
00:18:52Metcalf or at least keep competitive.
00:18:54So let this run real quick.
00:18:56This is one of Christian dollars is best plays on the day showing his
00:19:00technique,
00:19:01becoming the receiver,
00:19:02closing space,
00:19:03squeezing to the sideline,
00:19:05and then trying to make a play on the ball himself.
00:19:08Now go through this one more time.
00:19:10Again,
00:19:11he's not going to try to catch Metcalf.
00:19:12He's just going to run with him,
00:19:13read the hips,
00:19:14see where his eyes are.
00:19:15Eyes looking at Metcalf's hips reads.
00:19:19It's a vertical route.
00:19:20Once he does in the routes,
00:19:21pretty much declared,
00:19:22you're going to see Gonzo.
00:19:23This is when he gets contact,
00:19:25right?
00:19:26So he just wants to put himself in position where he's right there
00:19:28downfield with Metcalf,
00:19:29looking for the ball,
00:19:30jumps up,
00:19:31can't make a play on it in terms of like,
00:19:34actually becoming the receiver and catching it.
00:19:35But still,
00:19:36neither one of those guys has a good chance of the ball.
00:19:39Great coverage and patience and pull is there from Christian
00:19:43Gonzalez.
00:19:44I go,
00:19:45you don't have to even go back to it,
00:19:47but the,
00:19:48the hip fluidity from this guy is something that makes him and was
00:19:50the reason essentially,
00:19:51in my opinion,
00:19:52why he was the number 17 overall pick last year.
00:19:54Like that's obviously it's,
00:19:56I mean,
00:19:57it's rare,
00:19:58but it's also one of like the,
00:19:59the top,
00:20:00I guess the top traits you need as a quarterback,
00:20:03because you essentially a lot of times have to run routes with
00:20:05guys for guys when not knowing what they do.
00:20:08And to be able to not just like guys flip their hips and
00:20:11they'll eat shit sometimes,
00:20:12frankly,
00:20:13because they just don't have that right.
00:20:14And they'll get juked out of their pants,
00:20:16but it doesn't happen with Gonzo because he's able to just,
00:20:18we talked about it with chase and it was,
00:20:20it was a different route,
00:20:21but it was similar to that out route that chase ran in
00:20:23week one,
00:20:24where Gonzo just read where he was going,
00:20:26flipped his hips.
00:20:27And it was like,
00:20:28he ran the route for him and it's same,
00:20:30same thing as that other route before with DK.
00:20:32So I mean,
00:20:33it's,
00:20:34it's rare and it's,
00:20:35I like,
00:20:36I almost don't like that.
00:20:37He tried to be physical with DK when he,
00:20:40when this was just what he had to do all along.
00:20:43And maybe he wouldn't have even got his,
00:20:45his crap pushed in for lack of a better term to start
00:20:47the game,
00:20:48because this is just,
00:20:49again,
00:20:50this play right here after already.
00:20:51Now it was a miscommunication between him and Duggar,
00:20:53but after they had already gotten beaten by DK deep once,
00:20:56this could be a,
00:20:57a confident shot.
00:20:58Like,
00:20:59oh,
00:21:00I don't know if we can do this again,
00:21:01but instead he just,
00:21:02he runs with them the whole way.
00:21:03It makes a perfect play on it.
00:21:04It's perfect.
00:21:05And that's a huge credit to Gonzalez and his mentality.
00:21:07And honestly,
00:21:08I'm cool with him trying to be physical at first.
00:21:10He wanted to see if it would work and it didn't.
00:21:12And he very quickly adjusted.
00:21:13Like these are all main coverage snaps also.
00:21:15So it's all like zone.
00:21:16This is really when they were mono we mono.
00:21:18All right.
00:21:19Now here's an example.
00:21:20So first of all,
00:21:21Christian Gonzalez,
00:21:22when we're not counting the miscommunication with Duggar,
00:21:24because he Duggar took responsibility,
00:21:26right?
00:21:27Gonzo has never let up a deep catch in his NFL career,
00:21:29meaning any past it's gone 20 or more air yards.
00:21:31He is not allowed a completion,
00:21:32which is incredible considering he's shadowing the best receivers every
00:21:35single week.
00:21:36Now here's a play where Christian Gonzalez coming out.
00:21:39One of the big questions was his physicality and his tackling ability in
00:21:42the pros.
00:21:43He's pretty much quieted.
00:21:44Those doubts obviously hasn't played a full NFL season yet,
00:21:47but here's an example where DK in space,
00:21:50this can be really tough,
00:21:51right?
00:21:52If you don't have the right technique,
00:21:53you try to tackle him.
00:21:54He can slip it.
00:21:55And then with his speed pop off for a big game,
00:21:57but here,
00:21:58Gonzo is going to follow him across the formation.
00:22:00Quick throw to the flat.
00:22:03Then he's going to come to balance Gonzo.
00:22:05So see that he's going to get his hips under him.
00:22:07He's square.
00:22:08And then is going to corral DK Metcalf tries to spin out of it.
00:22:12Gonzo's like,
00:22:13Nope,
00:22:14you're not going anywhere.
00:22:15I gotcha.
00:22:16Let's his guys rally to make the tackle.
00:22:17Not going to go too deep into this play,
00:22:19but it's just a good example of Christian Gonzalez.
00:22:21They tried to beat him a different way and said,
00:22:23all right,
00:22:24we can't go downfield on this kid.
00:22:25Maybe we can try to force him to tackle or 230 pound receiver
00:22:28when he's got a 20 pound weight disadvantage.
00:22:30Doesn't work on Gonzo.
00:22:32And someone to Taylor,
00:22:33who it's only his seventh NFL game.
00:22:36And it's someone who came in.
00:22:38One of his weaknesses was tackling.
00:22:39So now not only is he tackling,
00:22:41but he's tackling DK freaking Metcalf,
00:22:43who I see in the chat,
00:22:44someone mentioned and create a player six,
00:22:46four to 35 guy could either juke him out of his shorts.
00:22:49Guy could just shove him into the turf,
00:22:50which he did earlier in the game.
00:22:51Yeah.
00:22:52But it Gonzo.
00:22:53And I like how you mentioned he comes to balance.
00:22:55I don't know if you caught this from Gerard Mayo,
00:22:56but it's not breaking down.
00:22:58Okay, good.
00:22:59I I'm glad you said it like that.
00:23:00Cause in that,
00:23:01in the Mayo straighter talking about how it was the Joe Cardona play,
00:23:05I think,
00:23:06right where we don't break down because if you break down,
00:23:08you fire your feet,
00:23:09you slow up instead of you come to balance and you get into tackling
00:23:12technique and it's,
00:23:13it's a perfect play.
00:23:14He doesn't allow him to juke him out and he makes the tackle.
00:23:16All right.
00:23:17So yeah,
00:23:18you watch it again and then we'll get into some of the other stuff with
00:23:21Gonzo because it was a love it.
00:23:23So you mentioned here to Taylor,
00:23:26New England has to be careful with those zone zone disguises because
00:23:30obviously that's how they got burnt for the DK touchdown.
00:23:33And there was the other one too,
00:23:36where we talked about it.
00:23:38You sent it over.
00:23:39I think you tweeted it as well,
00:23:40but it was the I think it's this one.
00:23:41Is it this one right here?
00:23:42Where is this?
00:23:43Oh,
00:23:44no.
00:23:45Different play.
00:23:46Okay.
00:23:47But go through it.
00:23:48And what,
00:23:49what,
00:23:50what do they need to fix them?
00:23:51Well,
00:23:52this is my last play kind of with that little kind of chess match they
00:23:56had.
00:23:57So this is another one where it's kind of similar to the route that
00:23:59we saw earlier,
00:24:00where it's going to be a route that Gonzalez is going to be off and
00:24:03try to react to what the route is.
00:24:05Now on this one,
00:24:06DK is just going to run a slant pretty straightforward.
00:24:09And there were a lot of drops in this game from the Seahawks receivers
00:24:12and it really overshadowed what was an incredible didn't overshadow.
00:24:15But do you know,
00:24:16Smith had an incredible performance and a lot of that production was
00:24:18left on the field because his receivers didn't follow through,
00:24:21but still Gonzalez puts himself in a position where he reads the route.
00:24:24As soon as DK declares,
00:24:26you see him breaking weights for the ball,
00:24:28just in case we tries to read it,
00:24:30make a play on it.
00:24:31DK.
00:24:32Isn't able to make the catch at the very least.
00:24:34Gonzo would have been able to punch this out.
00:24:36If DK did make the throw up,
00:24:38make the catch.
00:24:39I'm sorry.
00:24:40But then what I like most,
00:24:41the reason I really put this in is at the end.
00:24:43Gonzo.
00:24:44Some little pushoff,
00:24:45not a whole lot,
00:24:46but still like we mentioned,
00:24:47there is that mental game.
00:24:48And part of it is DK wants to physically dominate you and make you feel
00:24:52inferior to his just ungodly skillset.
00:24:55And now you see a little competitiveness.
00:24:56Like we saw last week from Gonzo too,
00:24:58where he's kind of pushing Jamar chase around.
00:24:59He's like,
00:25:00you know,
00:25:01well,
00:25:02something at the end,
00:25:03nothing crazy,
00:25:04but you know,
00:25:05I just like to see the attitude from Gonzo.
00:25:06I'm not sure about it,
00:25:07but you know,
00:25:08a play you like to see it's a drop,
00:25:09you know,
00:25:10on a good throw.
00:25:11Bottom line is though.
00:25:12Gonzalez did a really good job adjusting his technique and trying to
00:25:15avoid that contact with DK and instead say,
00:25:17Hey,
00:25:18I'm going to try to affect the catch point rather than get into some
00:25:21boxing match or hand fight with DK because he knew he wasn't going to be
00:25:24able to win.
00:25:25Yep.
00:25:26All right.
00:25:27What do they got to fix?
00:25:28Yeah.
00:25:29So with these disguised zones,
00:25:30where I went into the numbers,
00:25:31the Patriots are playing the second most covered two in the NFL or in
00:25:34terms of rate usage behind the bills.
00:25:37Now this isn't crazy for the Patriots because they were third last year.
00:25:40Like we've mentioned on the show before they like to play cover one and
00:25:44then mix in some cover too,
00:25:45because it throws off your reads a little bit and it's a pretty not easy,
00:25:48but there's ways to disguise it from cover one structures.
00:25:51But this season,
00:25:52the Patriots are really playing cover too.
00:25:54And they're showing a lot of zero looks.
00:25:56So they're showing all out blitz and then shifting to cover too.
00:25:59But the added element that makes it so difficult.
00:26:02It is not just that it's showing one thing and doing another.
00:26:04You don't usually know at least through two weeks where the deep half
00:26:08defenders are going to be.
00:26:10So for the Patriots,
00:26:11like based on what we saw last week,
00:26:13it could be Christian Gonzalez going into a deep half.
00:26:16It could be Kyle Duggar going into this deep half.
00:26:19You know,
00:26:20you basically have no idea because of all the ways they can disguise this.
00:26:23Now I'm not positive.
00:26:24This is a cover to shell.
00:26:26It's hard to read with this kind of blitz because they kind of play like
00:26:29birds on a fence a little bit,
00:26:31but we do know that Kyle Duggar was responsible for the laps.
00:26:33So you can see him.
00:26:35I have him highlighted right there.
00:26:37You can see Duggar communicating something to the defense.
00:26:39I think he is.
00:26:40And then when they do this,
00:26:41a lot of the time it is checking them into some kind of all out blitz.
00:26:45Look sure.
00:26:46So I think what Duggar is anticipating is that they are,
00:26:49my guess is he thinks there may be going to have like a go to the running
00:26:53back and then some kind of out to DK because the way he plays this,
00:26:57he's squatting.
00:26:58Like he thinks that something's coming underneath,
00:27:00right?
00:27:01Like if DK were running it out,
00:27:03he'd be able to jump it.
00:27:04Or if maybe Gino was going to throw something like,
00:27:06you know,
00:27:07a little curl here and maybe it's a seam,
00:27:09but he thinks that Gonzo is carrying the seam.
00:27:11Then Duggar's ready to potentially bounce on this if it's there.
00:27:15But what happens instead is DK runs up the seam and no one carries him at
00:27:20all.
00:27:21And if Duggar's taking responsibility,
00:27:22the likely outcome was supposed to be that he was going to cover deep.
00:27:25And then Gonzo was supposed to maybe hit the flat and take that a shallow
00:27:30route from the running back.
00:27:31So now here,
00:27:32here's a question for you.
00:27:33And this is a,
00:27:34this is a genuine question as we talk it out.
00:27:36I'm not,
00:27:37this isn't like a rhetorical thing.
00:27:38So I was listening to Andrew Callahan earlier today about how this is a
00:27:41something where they bring that guy in motion.
00:27:43And so he actually ends up chipping that DN so that they have all their
00:27:47guys accounted for while they still get the rush off.
00:27:49Could,
00:27:50could Duggar also be anticipating that guy coming in motion and running a
00:27:55flat road as well?
00:27:56Or is he strictly reading DK?
00:27:57Could that have thrown them off as well to think,
00:27:59Oh,
00:28:00they have someone coming.
00:28:01We don't have enough guys out here.
00:28:02They have our leverage.
00:28:03We need to sit on this guy coming in motion.
00:28:05And then he ends up being a part of the protection and it's not a factor
00:28:08at all.
00:28:09That's totally possible.
00:28:10Cause look,
00:28:11before this guy actually settles down,
00:28:12you've already seen the Duggar starting to creep down.
00:28:14So it's possible maybe that he thought it was some type of screen.
00:28:17The CIOs did run a few screens from similar looks in this game.
00:28:20So that's entirely possible as well.
00:28:22But the bottom line here is that it's a blown coverage and it's the
00:28:27worst case scenario where not only do you miss the assignment,
00:28:30but there's no one to save you.
00:28:31And you let the fastest player on the field walk into the end zone
00:28:35untouched.
00:28:36And that wasn't the only time this happened either,
00:28:38because that time it was not on gone.
00:28:40So this time it was,
00:28:41so this is actually going to be a cover to disguise,
00:28:44whereas you're going to see Duggar is going to take this deep half.
00:28:47Then it looks like they're going to invert it where Christian Gonzalez is
00:28:50responsible for the half to this side with,
00:28:53I think it's Marcus Jones playing the flat.
00:28:55Then you're going to get a deep hook right here.
00:28:57Then you're going to get zone zone.
00:28:59And this defender playing the flat.
00:29:00And you're going to get another vertical route from DK Metcalf,
00:29:04but gone.
00:29:05So is squatting.
00:29:06The pressure is going to save it though.
00:29:08Cause Dietrich wise is going to get his hand.
00:29:10They're forced,
00:29:11you know,
00:29:12Smith to step up in the pocket and the throw doesn't get as much mustard
00:29:16as he wants on it.
00:29:17But as you can see,
00:29:18DK Metcalf is a wide open wide open work for that pressure,
00:29:21which ends up leading to Jabril pepper is having a chance at getting a
00:29:25hand on the football.
00:29:26That's a touchdown easily.
00:29:27And it would have been their second touchdown on a blown coverage of the
00:29:30day.
00:29:31So these are the things you just can't have in these disguise coverages.
00:29:34And the reason I really highlight this is this week they're playing Aaron
00:29:37Rogers.
00:29:38You are not going to show Aaron Rogers,
00:29:40anything that he has not seen in some form or fashion at the NFL level.
00:29:43What I want to see from the Patriots is this week.
00:29:46I need to see them go back to their roots,
00:29:48what they did more with bill Belichick.
00:29:50And yes,
00:29:51I want them to the sky.
00:29:53But more than anything,
00:29:54I want them to be structurally sound.
00:29:56If that means,
00:29:57Hey,
00:29:58we're going to play more man coverage and just do what they show you
00:30:01exactly what it is.
00:30:02That's fine.
00:30:03Last time they played Aaron Rogers in green Bay,
00:30:05there was a whole lot of man coverage and there wasn't a whole lot of
00:30:08trickery because they knew that,
00:30:09you know,
00:30:10if we sacrifice and have somebody from the slot bailing into a deep half,
00:30:13but he's not fast enough,
00:30:14Aaron Rogers is going to put air on the ball.
00:30:16And while you're trying to track it while looking at it,
00:30:18our guys already got a boost.
00:30:21And he's going to be able to make that grab.
00:30:23So this week I need to see more straightforward coverages back to
00:30:26fundamentals and just play the ball and be able to rely on your guys to
00:30:30win one-on-one matchups.
00:30:31Because as much as I think this,
00:30:33you know,
00:30:34whole switch to more zone coverages can work because by reading the
00:30:38ball,
00:30:39you can make more plays on the ball and get those interceptions and
00:30:41turnovers.
00:30:42Aaron Rogers,
00:30:43isn't that kind of guy you're not going to get a whole lot of
00:30:45turnovers that he causes.
00:30:47So I think the priority needs to be affecting the catch point and making
00:30:50sure his guys can't bring the ball in.
00:30:52Absolutely.
00:30:53All right,
00:30:54let's keep it on the defensive side of the ball here for our next
00:30:56breakdown.
00:30:57Taylor,
00:30:58we're talking about Keon white,
00:30:59someone who you mentioned as a potential defensive player of the year
00:31:02candidate in your notes to me about Keon last week at seven tackles.
00:31:06He has a sack and a half.
00:31:08We talked on our thing last week about white getting some national
00:31:11attention,
00:31:12baldy breakdown on Twitter,
00:31:13but then he's built Belichick's football guy of the week as well on
00:31:16inside the NFL.
00:31:17Last week,
00:31:18Chris Long's right.
00:31:19Didn't he get a,
00:31:20didn't he get to vote?
00:31:21Yes.
00:31:22Yeah.
00:31:23So Chris Long,
00:31:24the way they do it on the show,
00:31:25not to get too,
00:31:26too into the weeds about it,
00:31:27but each guy brings a football guy and then Belichick votes on it.
00:31:29So Chris Long nominated him.
00:31:30Okay.
00:31:31And Belichick show Belichick chose him out of the three.
00:31:33So yeah,
00:31:34Keon white balling out,
00:31:35like I said,
00:31:36seven tackles this week,
00:31:37a sack and a half again,
00:31:39he's all over the place.
00:31:40Taylor,
00:31:41how did he do it this week?
00:31:42How is he bringing stuff inside and outside resembling not only Christian
00:31:46Barmer in the middle,
00:31:47but like we mentioned right now,
00:31:49he literally is playing so well.
00:31:51He's like Barmore on the outside or on the inside,
00:31:53excuse me.
00:31:54And he's like Jude on,
00:31:55on the outside.
00:31:56He's making it happen all over the map.
00:31:57Show us how let's break it down.
00:31:59Yep.
00:32:00So Keon white's ability to disrupt the interior has been obviously huge
00:32:04because without Christian Barmore,
00:32:06they don't really have the juice,
00:32:07right?
00:32:08So the only guys on this team with really respectable pass rush win rates
00:32:11are primarily edge defenders.
00:32:13Now Keon is the only one in that group who isn't mainly on the edge,
00:32:16but you look at Dietrich Weiss and Joshua Uche,
00:32:18the other two guys who've been giving them some pass rush,
00:32:20they're ones that most have been on the edge.
00:32:22Now,
00:32:23Daniel equality is very technically sound,
00:32:25but he's not the most explosive pass rush.
00:32:27And I think you're seeing now more,
00:32:29he really is more of a complimentary guy than he was even two years ago,
00:32:32where I feel like he did have a bit more juice,
00:32:34but you know,
00:32:35season ending injury,
00:32:36stuff like that is going to happen.
00:32:37So this is going to be,
00:32:39this was my favorite rep from the day where last year you would see
00:32:42sometimes Christian Barmore get lined up one-on-one on a center.
00:32:45And it just was not fair because he's bigger,
00:32:47he's stronger,
00:32:48he's faster.
00:32:49And it was,
00:32:50it was a total mismatch.
00:32:51It's similar with Keon white.
00:32:52He's not quite as frequently large as Christian Barmore,
00:32:55but he's a matchup problem in his own right here.
00:32:57You're going to see Connor Williams,
00:32:58a veteran center one-on-one for some reason,
00:33:01they decide to slide.
00:33:03Oh my gosh,
00:33:04what the world happens for some reason,
00:33:05they are going to slide the protection away from Keon white.
00:33:08And they're actually not going to cause you're going to see right.
00:33:11Guard's actually going to go to teacher twice.
00:33:13Keon white's going to say,
00:33:14bet you're not going to say much of a chance closes in for the sack.
00:33:21Now to break this town real quick,
00:33:23kind of Williams gets the ball off,
00:33:24right?
00:33:25White is basically just waiting to see what direction he's going to go in.
00:33:29Once he sees that soft shoulder on the inside,
00:33:32he says,
00:33:33thank you very much.
00:33:34I'm going to throw a club,
00:33:35take out that hand that was protecting you from getting beat to your inside.
00:33:41Closes up.
00:33:42He wants to finish with a rip,
00:33:43but he really doesn't even need to,
00:33:44because Connor Williams doesn't really have the arm to spare.
00:33:48Gets into the backfield.
00:33:49He cocks his arm back.
00:33:50He's like,
00:33:51Oh wait,
00:33:52I don't even need to do this.
00:33:53I can just run straight right at the quarterback.
00:33:54Yeah,
00:33:55no need to do it.
00:33:56And this is just,
00:33:57this is the kind of thing you want to see from Keon white,
00:33:59put him on the guy that you think is the biggest liability on the offensive
00:34:02line and let him go to work.
00:34:03But for most of the game,
00:34:04the guy who they saw as the biggest liability seemed to be left guard,
00:34:08like in Tomlinson,
00:34:09an older guard,
00:34:10a veteran,
00:34:11but you know,
00:34:12athletically not where he used to be.
00:34:13And Keon white took full advantage of that,
00:34:15mostly beating him with inside moves.
00:34:17And the thing that makes Keon white very valuable on this specific rep is,
00:34:21do you notice anything about the way this front looks and who's in the
00:34:24personnel group?
00:34:25Oh man.
00:34:27Okay.
00:34:28Uh,
00:34:30Tavai,
00:34:31uh,
00:34:32Jennings.
00:34:33Oh,
00:34:34cool.
00:34:35Kyle Duggar is a linebacker first and foremost.
00:34:36Like on the defensive line.
00:34:37How many pass rushers do you see?
00:34:38Oh yeah.
00:34:39They're sending five,
00:34:40five,
00:34:41but there's not a lot of guys here.
00:34:42If you would think of his past for specialists,
00:34:44right?
00:34:45Or guys you really expect.
00:34:46Oh,
00:34:47okay.
00:34:48Yeah.
00:34:49Yeah.
00:34:50Cause you have to buy it.
00:34:51Yeah,
00:34:52sure.
00:34:53Right.
00:34:54You got Jelani to buy.
00:34:55Who's more often than not going to be dropping in these situations.
00:34:56And for the Jennings,
00:34:57who's primarily a run stopper,
00:34:58he can push the pocket,
00:34:59but he's really not going to be registering many pressures.
00:35:01And Daniel equality,
00:35:02who,
00:35:03as we mentioned,
00:35:04can give you a little something,
00:35:05something,
00:35:06but he's really not the pass rusher that you want.
00:35:07Last year,
00:35:08Christian Barmore was that guy in these groupings.
00:35:11And Matt Judon has been that in other years where if you're going to want to
00:35:14stop the run,
00:35:15you need,
00:35:16especially in this kind of alignment where this usually is Dietrich wise,
00:35:20where it's more of that defensive end type,
00:35:22more than a real defensive tackle or nose tackle type.
00:35:24They give you just enough juice.
00:35:26So you can have some type of pass rush when you're trying to stop the run.
00:35:29So here,
00:35:30the Seahawks are going to go play action and Keon white is going to win so
00:35:34fast that the play doesn't even have time to develop.
00:35:37So we're going to see immediately.
00:35:40First of all,
00:35:41Gino Smith fakes away from the back.
00:35:44So Keon is not fooled.
00:35:46He knows that this is clearly not going to be a run with these two going in
00:35:49different directions.
00:35:50He gets into attack mode,
00:35:52stays added after getting under Lake and Tom wants his pads with a rip move.
00:35:55And what I love about Keon also,
00:35:58when he goes for the quarterback,
00:35:59he's not going for sacks.
00:36:01He's going for strip sacks.
00:36:02And you see that right here.
00:36:03If Gino doesn't have two hands on this football,
00:36:05Keon white is probably taking this out.
00:36:08Yep.
00:36:09So doesn't quite get the strip,
00:36:14but as soon as Gino gets to the top of his drop,
00:36:16he has to worry about Keon white.
00:36:19And then we also get great efforts here from Daniel,
00:36:21a quality and Jabril peppers on the opposite edge,
00:36:26right here,
00:36:27working through multiple blocks to help out and close this converge on the
00:36:32quarterback.
00:36:33So I'm watching.
00:36:35So now this is a niche thing and it doesn't necessarily have to do with
00:36:41white's technique here.
00:36:42But the,
00:36:44the miss how they mess up the play action.
00:36:47That looks more like Charbonnet seeing,
00:36:50Oh,
00:36:51we have,
00:36:52we don't have enough guys to bro.
00:36:53Peppers is also coming off the edge.
00:36:54Let's just fire a call that we're not doing play action anymore.
00:36:57I'm staying into block.
00:36:58What do you think?
00:36:59Do you think it's a mistake?
00:37:00Or do you think that's that him saying,
00:37:01no,
00:37:02we need another,
00:37:03we need some more protection here.
00:37:04It's a good question because so they,
00:37:06I think a lot of the time,
00:37:07if you're going to have a tight end in the block,
00:37:10a lot of these teams will have it kind of be a double,
00:37:12but because I would think they would trust Noah fan to do this on his own.
00:37:16I think so too.
00:37:17Yeah.
00:37:18Cause he's actually in a protected.
00:37:19It doesn't look like he's chipping.
00:37:20Like this is max protection.
00:37:21They only sent two guys out in the routes and these guys are all going to
00:37:25help out still in protection.
00:37:26So I'm not really sure if it doesn't even look like Charbonnet was,
00:37:32maybe he is wrong,
00:37:33but it doesn't,
00:37:34I guess he took a stutter as if he was going to go for the fake.
00:37:36So maybe that's just a miscommunication on them too.
00:37:39Yeah.
00:37:40It turns out is it looks like this looks like they're trying to fake more of
00:37:43an inside zone type protection.
00:37:45Yeah.
00:37:46Honestly,
00:37:47it's hard to tell.
00:37:48I don't want to kind of get in their head.
00:37:49I don't know what their playbook looks like,
00:37:50but bottom line,
00:37:51the fact that you're on a play action drop back from a run,
00:37:55stopping grouping says a lot about the value that he brings to this defense.
00:37:59Yep.
00:38:00He's a force.
00:38:01He's been their best player.
00:38:02I would say through two weeks.
00:38:04Yep.
00:38:05All right.
00:38:06Now we're going to get another play where you're going to get Keon white on
00:38:08an Island against Lake and Tomlinson showing that lateral agility to win
00:38:14inside.
00:38:15Again,
00:38:16this time he's going to use more of a stutter to set up Lake and Tomlinson who
00:38:18overcommits just a bit to the outside.
00:38:21Now white takes advantage with the double swipe move finishes with the rip.
00:38:24Like we mentioned,
00:38:25he tried to do earlier,
00:38:26but didn't need to get under Lakin's pads to win gets around the corner and
00:38:32very nearly.
00:38:34Does he get a hand on this?
00:38:36He doesn't,
00:38:37but just enough to affect the throw.
00:38:39And obviously it's probably going to be gone very far because Jalen Hawkins was
00:38:42right there in coverage.
00:38:43But that's a key stop on third down and another clean win.
00:38:46For some reason,
00:38:47they didn't slide towards Keon white.
00:38:49I don't understand what the idea was behind that,
00:38:52but as you can see,
00:38:53he made them pay.
00:38:56When our team's going to realize that you can't just block Keon white one-on-one.
00:39:01Yeah,
00:39:02I'm not sure how to be next week,
00:39:03but I do have to say that Connor Williams is sliding towards Jelani to buy.
00:39:08Like you can see he's looking at him.
00:39:09So he's just trying to make sure that that isn't going to be a factor in the
00:39:12play,
00:39:13but the running back also reads to buy.
00:39:15It looks like maybe he's prioritizing a corner blitz.
00:39:20I'm not totally sure,
00:39:21but either way,
00:39:22if you're going to create these mismatches with Keon white,
00:39:24he's going to be able to take advantage more often than not.
00:39:26Now,
00:39:27there were some times where he got his lunch money handed to him as well.
00:39:30Like there was a rep against the right guard where he got taken to the ground
00:39:34after an inside move.
00:39:35Didn't work.
00:39:36That's the chess match though.
00:39:37You know,
00:39:38you're trying to call your shot sometimes to work.
00:39:40Sometimes it doesn't,
00:39:41but you're going to get another rep here against Lake and Tom,
00:39:44what's in one-on-one,
00:39:45but this one,
00:39:46the Patriots are actually going to use the six man front to create the one-on-one
00:39:49matchup.
00:39:50So this is specifically scheme based.
00:39:51So you're going to have the tackle out to Josh Uche.
00:39:54You're going to see a slide this way.
00:39:58Excuse me.
00:39:59I'm sorry.
00:40:00So let me see this.
00:40:01So you're actually thinking at the back on Kyle Duggar.
00:40:03So then you're going to get a one-on-one matchup right here and here.
00:40:07Actually,
00:40:08let me just run this out.
00:40:09Cause I'm honestly,
00:40:11I'm getting the mixed up.
00:40:12Yeah.
00:40:13Okay.
00:40:14That's how it works out.
00:40:15Go for it.
00:40:16Yep.
00:40:17But the six man front is essentially to create these one-on-one matchups
00:40:19where,
00:40:20okay,
00:40:21you're going to get the slender slide to quality.
00:40:22It's going to go here.
00:40:23You're going to get the guard accounting for Jelani to buy the back
00:40:25accounting for Kyle Duggar and the tackle accounting for Joshua Uche.
00:40:29One more time with the inside win.
00:40:31And I also love the awareness to dip and get between that gap as well.
00:40:36To kind of also get the running back.
00:40:38I remember last week when we saw a similar rush and the running back was
00:40:41able to chip them just a little bit.
00:40:43Yep.
00:40:44Here dips his pads a little bit,
00:40:46basically teleports into the backfield,
00:40:48lower the shoulders.
00:40:49Right.
00:40:50And you know,
00:40:51Smith's exactly.
00:40:52It,
00:40:53you know,
00:40:54Smith was fricking stones all day and it did matter.
00:40:55He still gets bought his hand.
00:40:56Great performance from the quarterback,
00:40:57but another win there from Keon white inside.
00:41:01All right.
00:41:02So that's inside Taylor,
00:41:03what he got for him on the outside,
00:41:04because like we said,
00:41:05he's great on,
00:41:06he's great on the inside,
00:41:07but he's also been dominant on the edge as well.
00:41:08Yep.
00:41:09Actually one more clip.
00:41:10I'm going to show from him on the inside,
00:41:12but this is this versatility.
00:41:13So obviously he can win one-on-one,
00:41:15but we can also do is with that effectiveness inside,
00:41:18set up some twists.
00:41:19So here he's the pick man,
00:41:21right?
00:41:22So you're going to get him slanting inside and you're trying to get an
00:41:24opening for Joshua Uche.
00:41:26Yep.
00:41:27But because he demands so much attention,
00:41:28the guard is going to look his way.
00:41:30That gets Joshua Uche almost unblocked.
00:41:34The guard does it just enough to save a complete free hit.
00:41:38Yeah.
00:41:39But Keon white,
00:41:40not only is the penetrator,
00:41:41he's actually going to get into the right tackles,
00:41:43pads,
00:41:44shove him off and get to the quarterback himself.
00:41:46So not only can he be the guy to free up other people,
00:41:49he can actually make an impact even when he's being used basically as a
00:41:52distraction.
00:41:55And one,
00:41:56sorry,
00:41:57I'm just watching it again.
00:41:58Yeah,
00:41:59no,
00:42:00you're good.
00:42:01More of that from these two,
00:42:02because obviously it's the best pass rushers.
00:42:04You can put some offensive lines into real binds when they're not really
00:42:07sure if you're just straight up,
00:42:08rushing them with speed or if they need to account for this kind of
00:42:11wine game.
00:42:12Bingo.
00:42:13That's one part of it.
00:42:14The other part too,
00:42:15is where I just said,
00:42:16well,
00:42:17when our team's going to realize you for Keon,
00:42:18sometimes you just don't have the guys.
00:42:19And when you do,
00:42:20and you do this to them,
00:42:21then Joshua Uche is free to go.
00:42:23And then you put two,
00:42:24you have two guys on white,
00:42:25you get mixed up because you're so,
00:42:26you're so keyed in on him that he ends up just being the pick man for
00:42:29Joshua Uche.
00:42:30Who's sneaky having a good,
00:42:31good year as well off the edge to come in and do something like that.
00:42:34So yeah,
00:42:35he is,
00:42:36he's just a weapon,
00:42:37man.
00:42:38I can't get over it.
00:42:39And a great set up here for Keon white.
00:42:42So as we mentioned,
00:42:43he's trying to work on his outside rushing because he knows he's primarily
00:42:46a guy who's going to win inside,
00:42:47but you can see the development slowly creeping as the season goes on
00:42:51here.
00:42:52He is against the Seahawks backup,
00:42:53right tackle winning with just a little rip around the edge.
00:42:57He doesn't get to the quarterback,
00:42:58but you can see,
00:42:59all right,
00:43:00the tackle wants to make contact.
00:43:02He's going to dip underneath the tackles punch and then show good
00:43:07balance to get around the edge.
00:43:09Almost gets to Gino Smith.
00:43:11Can't quite bend enough to affect the quarterback there,
00:43:14but you're at least seeing that he can win in multiple ways inside and
00:43:17outside this really straightforward speed rush,
00:43:20but still an effective one.
00:43:22And then he almost meets Joshua Uche from the other edge at the
00:43:25quarterback.
00:43:26Almost,
00:43:27almost a Gino Smith sandwich right there.
00:43:29Yep.
00:43:30Very,
00:43:31very close to a little Seahawks Sammy,
00:43:34but still they both do get hands on the quarterback.
00:43:37And those are those plays where,
00:43:38yeah,
00:43:39you know,
00:43:40it's only going to be a hurry,
00:43:41not hit on the stat sheet,
00:43:42but the quarterback's not going to forget that.
00:43:43But you know,
00:43:44hopefully when it's other quarterbacks,
00:43:45that'll make more of a difference with Gino Smith,
00:43:47it did not make much of a difference because he is a pros pro.
00:43:50Yeah.
00:43:51I mean,
00:43:52you're still,
00:43:53you're still hurrying the pocket up.
00:43:55And so even if you don't touch him,
00:43:56maybe he has to get the ball off quick here.
00:43:58The next play,
00:43:59the next play,
00:44:00you're like,
00:44:01Oh,
00:44:02where's the rush coming?
00:44:03Is the rush coming?
00:44:04Blah,
00:44:05blah,
00:44:06blah,
00:44:07blah.
00:44:08So even if you don't make a play on a play,
00:44:09you don't make an impact on a play like this,
00:44:10getting that close to him and making him get the ball out.
00:44:11That fast is going to ruin a lot of guys for the rest of the
00:44:13game.
00:44:14Now you mentioned,
00:44:15you know,
00:44:16Smith balled out yesterday or on Sunday and kind of had,
00:44:17had the cojones to just sit in there and get it done.
00:44:19But long story short,
00:44:20that that's what they're doing there as well.
00:44:22Oh yeah,
00:44:23that's what they're doing there.
00:44:24And then I,
00:44:25I saw,
00:44:26I see,
00:44:27I see low set.
00:44:28He wishes the edge was getting a bit more pressure.
00:44:30I get it.
00:44:31But also when you're losing a guy like bar more,
00:44:33it's just tough,
00:44:34man.
00:44:35Like they do prioritize run stoppers and for the way they play
00:44:37defense.
00:44:38I think that that's smart.
00:44:39I don't think you want to start like bringing in a bunch of
00:44:41pure penetrators.
00:44:42Cause then it can be a bad scheme fit.
00:44:44And then it kind of affects the way other people have to
00:44:46play.
00:44:47But when they want that interior push,
00:44:49that's when you're going to see Keon white inside when they
00:44:51don't,
00:44:52when they don't have a lot of room that may be like a
00:44:53Dietrich wise or something to kick in,
00:44:54in those situations.
00:44:55But here it's another impressive rep from Keon white,
00:44:57this one against Charles cross,
00:44:59a really good young offensive tackle on the left side.
00:45:02You're actually going to see here from Keon white,
00:45:04a little bit of a slap and rip around the edge here.
00:45:07So Charles cross,
00:45:09very patient with his hand.
00:45:10So Keon white says I'm going to be the aggressor.
00:45:13Once calls cross does try to shoot his hand.
00:45:15Keon is going to slap it down to a great job using his
00:45:18outs or the inside hand to take away.
00:45:21That backup punch from Charles cross that second hand,
00:45:24swipe it away.
00:45:25When the edge bend around again,
00:45:28doesn't quite get there,
00:45:30but one of those wins where you at least have to respect
00:45:32the threat of Keon white winning around the edge again,
00:45:35makes contact with the quarterback.
00:45:37One of those that gets in the passers head,
00:45:39ideally as the game goes on.
00:45:41Yep.
00:45:42All right.
00:45:43I'm looking at your,
00:45:44I'm looking at your show notes here,
00:45:45Taylor.
00:45:46Do we have a key on white spin move in the,
00:45:49in the,
00:45:50in the burner?
00:45:51Let's see it.
00:45:52So like I mentioned last time where Keon white set up that
00:45:55speed move earlier,
00:45:56where he just went right around the edge here.
00:45:58He's actually going to try to use that to set up an inside
00:46:01move.
00:46:02Now it's not the cleanest and the Seahawks end up picking it
00:46:04up well,
00:46:05but it's at least cool to see that he's trying new things,
00:46:07trying to add things to his toolbox for a second year player.
00:46:10Who's already showing a ton of promise.
00:46:12So,
00:46:13all right,
00:46:14again,
00:46:15you're going to try to threaten with speed.
00:46:16The tackle starts open.
00:46:17What he's going to do is,
00:46:18so what you want to do here is he's going to try to throw
00:46:21that chop.
00:46:22You want to knock down the offensive tackles hands.
00:46:25Then when he comes back around,
00:46:26so he does an okay job of that.
00:46:28I'm not sure how effectively he does it.
00:46:30It's tough to tell from this angle,
00:46:32but as he spins,
00:46:33you'd like to see with that arm that he's bringing through,
00:46:36you'd shop the inside hand for the offensive tackle.
00:46:39Cause once that goes down,
00:46:40that's when you have a free lane to the quarterback doesn't
00:46:43quite get there.
00:46:44Instead,
00:46:45it's more like he shoves them like this instead of it being
00:46:47really a takedown.
00:46:48And then the running back does a good job showing awareness and
00:46:51stalling him inside,
00:46:53gets them to the ground there.
00:46:54That's a big hit,
00:46:55really good pickups from the running back,
00:46:57but it's still cool to see,
00:46:59you know,
00:47:00he's trying something else where he can set up a move one way
00:47:02and then do something else and win from different spots.
00:47:05Yep.
00:47:06All right,
00:47:07let's wrap up Keon.
00:47:08What else you got for us here?
00:47:09Some freak athleticism I see in the show notes and then also
00:47:11something you can improve on.
00:47:12Yeah,
00:47:13sure.
00:47:14So this is going to be the last one of the really big Keon white
00:47:16highlights.
00:47:17The Patriots uses very interesting package where they actually
00:47:20dropped Keon white and Joshua Uche into cover two zones and
00:47:24ended up sending different types of pressure where I think the
00:47:26first time it was a creeper creeper basically means,
00:47:29or this is actually a simulated pressure where they're showing
00:47:31heat.
00:47:32They're only actually going to send four,
00:47:34but two of them are going to be defensive backs.
00:47:35They also showed a look where they actually blitz and set five,
00:47:38but still Uche and Keon white were dropping.
00:47:40Keon white said they just wanted to show the Seahawks,
00:47:42some different looks similar to what the Seahawks do with guys like
00:47:45boy,
00:47:46Mothy where you'll see him rush off the edge a lot,
00:47:48but he also can line up an inside linebacker and drop way down
00:47:50field.
00:47:51And for Keon white,
00:47:52a guy who's a tweener plays inside the tackles outside the
00:47:55tackles does so much in the front to be able to do.
00:47:57This is downright ridiculous.
00:47:59Like he's able to get to his spot and really he's in good position
00:48:04as that Tampa defender,
00:48:06who's supposed to carry the deepest route inside.
00:48:09Now,
00:48:10this is a great play from Gino Smith because the Patriots do end up
00:48:13blitzing right here.
00:48:14Jabril peppers.
00:48:15He actually is going to be unblocked,
00:48:17but Gino kind of like,
00:48:18you see what Drake may sometimes kind of barely fade away to get
00:48:21himself some more time against the rush and then fire this between
00:48:25two defenders to get the completion.
00:48:28Like this is a great throw from Gino.
00:48:30Yeah.
00:48:31It's one where you could say,
00:48:32Oh,
00:48:33why are you dropping your defensive lineman into coverage?
00:48:35Look at how deep and white are still able to get like,
00:48:38this isn't bad coverage,
00:48:39but you're still reading the quarterback.
00:48:41And it's really,
00:48:42this is just a really tight window for him to hit.
00:48:45And Gino Smith dude was money all day,
00:48:48especially late in the game is able to complete that on third down
00:48:51for a huge conversion for the Seahawks.
00:48:53So not a highlight or anything for the Patriots,
00:48:56but I just wanted to show off Keon white.
00:48:58Cause this is a ridiculous amount of athleticism and something you
00:49:01showed in college where he would carry real,
00:49:03real routes all the way down field to cover running backs.
00:49:05So I just wanted to give him some love for the versatility.
00:49:08This was just going to hand out next time,
00:49:10knock it down.
00:49:11I know it's a nice throw from Gino and the way he can get there and
00:49:14everything is,
00:49:15is obviously worth showing,
00:49:16but you got two guys there.
00:49:17You trust them enough to trust them enough to,
00:49:19to up there.
00:49:20Someone get a hand on it.
00:49:22But again,
00:49:23it's,
00:49:24it's a great throw.
00:49:25Yeah.
00:49:26So when does,
00:49:27when does Smith let this go?
00:49:28Like he lets it go right here.
00:49:29Yeah,
00:49:30I know.
00:49:31Obviously if you get a guy who's more used to coverage,
00:49:33maybe he makes a play on this better,
00:49:35but I'm still in it.
00:49:36Right.
00:49:37All the way.
00:49:38Yeah,
00:49:39for sure.
00:49:40And he makes the tackle and he makes a tackle.
00:49:41All right,
00:49:42we'll give it to him.
00:49:43All right.
00:49:44All right.
00:49:45All right.
00:49:46Now.
00:49:47Oh,
00:49:48actually no,
00:49:49this is just the other angle.
00:49:50That's it.
00:49:51I'm just going to show it real quick.
00:49:52So you can see it.
00:49:53Okay.
00:49:54He knows perspective.
00:49:55Like bro,
00:49:56that man is 285 pounds.
00:49:57Can we be for real?
00:49:58That's stupid.
00:49:59That's against Jackson Smith.
00:50:00See,
00:50:01okay.
00:50:02Honestly,
00:50:03from this angle too,
00:50:04that's just a great throw from Gino Smith.
00:50:05He sees the way that Keon White's turned.
00:50:07He knows Smith and Jig was going to cross his face.
00:50:09Keon doesn't necessarily know that he throws it right behind his ear hole for a great throw.
00:50:13That's just good quarterback play.
00:50:15And Keon White doesn't do anything wrong.
00:50:17He's supposed to carry this guy up the field.
00:50:19He hits his landmark,
00:50:20gets his eye on the quarterback,
00:50:21but look what Chino lets us go.
00:50:23His momentum is working against him because he was covering,
00:50:26or I'm sorry,
00:50:27carrying out his assignments.
00:50:28So yeah,
00:50:29again,
00:50:30just a freak rep there from Keon White.
00:50:31Yeah,
00:50:32no,
00:50:33that's just,
00:50:34that's just some good quarterback play.
00:50:35Like I said,
00:50:36too,
00:50:37you can't really blame,
00:50:38blame them.
00:50:39But overall again,
00:50:40Keon White,
00:50:41are we done?
00:50:42Do you have one more Keon?
00:50:43This is just the last one.
00:50:44So this is something that Dan Orlovsky actually pointed out.
00:50:45This was a late addition to the script.
00:50:46So Dan Orlovsky pointed out that Gino Smith had a rep late in the game where he had a
00:50:51sprint out to the right,
00:50:52then came all the way back to the left,
00:50:54which is something you don't really see usually on a sprint out.
00:50:56If you don't like the look,
00:50:57you're just going to throw it away.
00:50:58What he did and said was he came back around,
00:51:01which gave Tyler Lockett time to uncover against Jonathan Jones and overtime.
00:51:04And they completed the throw.
00:51:06And it was a big chunk.
00:51:07They needed to really get into new England territory.
00:51:09A big reason that happened was because the first time they ran the play,
00:51:13the Patriots showed them the same,
00:51:15a nickel defense four down.
00:51:17Look with Keon White as an edge defender to the boundary.
00:51:21As you can see,
00:51:22he's right here.
00:51:23Now watch what he does.
00:51:24He's going to drop into coverage thinking,
00:51:26all right,
00:51:27maybe he's thinking,
00:51:28all right,
00:51:29they might try to throw something back.
00:51:30I just want to make sure I have depth on this route because again,
00:51:33with sprint outs,
00:51:34you don't really see quarterbacks come back the other way.
00:51:37It really just doesn't happen.
00:51:38Right?
00:51:39This time,
00:51:40the Patriots send a blitz from the slot.
00:51:43So Marcus Jones is blitzing into the sprint out.
00:51:46The running back picks it up.
00:51:47Juwan Bentley looks like blitzes as well.
00:51:49Jabril Peppers tries to get down to cover this quick out.
00:51:53Can't get there in time.
00:51:55And it's a conversion.
00:51:57So what we see later in the game,
00:51:59same look,
00:52:00right?
00:52:01Patriots are in their nickel defense,
00:52:02four down front,
00:52:03Keon White on the edge.
00:52:04Once again,
00:52:05we're going to get that flip from the back.
00:52:07They're going to sprint out to the right.
00:52:09Keon White right here.
00:52:10All right.
00:52:11I'm going to make sure that I'm just able to make a play on this.
00:52:14If anything comes backside,
00:52:15it does go backside,
00:52:17but he has too much depth and isn't able to affect the quarterback.
00:52:21And again,
00:52:22this is a great play from the Seahawks.
00:52:24This isn't really a critique very much of Keon White.
00:52:26Maybe the coaching point is you don't want to get quite as much depth
00:52:29because you still want to be able to come down on that.
00:52:31But because it's such a rare play,
00:52:33I just wanted to point out a really cool aspect from Gino Smith's game
00:52:36to be able to allow Tyler Lockett.
00:52:38As you can see,
00:52:39I,
00:52:40and they may have talked about this on the sideline because Tyler Lockett
00:52:43doesn't really hesitate very much.
00:52:44He's running,
00:52:45sees his quarterback needs help and is like,
00:52:47I'm reversing field.
00:52:48So I think they may have said,
00:52:50you know what?
00:52:51We're going to go back to this.
00:52:52Cause we have a soft edge.
00:52:53This is a smart defense.
00:52:54Let's do something.
00:52:55They're not expecting.
00:52:56But yeah,
00:52:57again,
00:52:58once again,
00:52:59interesting play,
00:53:00I would love to know,
00:53:01maybe we can ask Keon if there was a coaching point for something he
00:53:03should have done differently at this,
00:53:04but a really cool play from the Seahawks being able to capitalize and
00:53:07really give them a play that put them in field goal range and ultimately
00:53:10decided the game.
00:53:11Yep.
00:53:12All right.
00:53:13Well,
00:53:14that's Keon White.
00:53:15Now,
00:53:16unfortunately Taylor,
00:53:17what we have to do now is flip over to the offensive side of the
00:53:19football.
00:53:20And in this passing game before we do that,
00:53:22let's listen in quickly to a word from our friends over at game time
00:53:26Taylor,
00:53:27because right now on game time,
00:53:29it is Tuesday and you can get into Patriots versus jets on Thursday at
00:53:34MetLife stadium for as little as $71.
00:53:38So me and Taylor are going to be there.
00:53:40Me and Taylor do get to go in for free because we are reporting on the
00:53:43team,
00:53:44but if you guys want to come check it out and watch the game,
00:53:46you can get in on it at game time for,
00:53:48like I said,
00:53:49as little as $71 game time.
00:53:52Obviously it's an easy app to use.
00:53:53They have game time picks.
00:53:54They filter out the fluff to show you only the incredible deals on seats
00:53:57that you can get.
00:53:59And you don't have to waste the time searching through the thousands of
00:54:02tickets on the app.
00:54:03Game time picks makes it super easy.
00:54:04You can look at your seat view.
00:54:06So you've never been to MetLife stadium,
00:54:08but you want to come to the game,
00:54:09but you don't know what your CPU is going to look like.
00:54:11You can do that right in the game time app.
00:54:12So do go do that.
00:54:14Now they have super deals,
00:54:15awesome deals,
00:54:16amazing deals.
00:54:17They make it super simple to get the best tickets and the lowest price
00:54:20guaranteed.
00:54:21And it doesn't even need to be for boarding.
00:54:23It's either on game time,
00:54:24you can go to concerts,
00:54:25theater shows,
00:54:26all that good stuff right now on game time.
00:54:28So take the guesswork out of buying tickets with game time,
00:54:32download the game time app,
00:54:33create an account and use code CLNS for $20 off your first purchase terms
00:54:38apply again,
00:54:39create an account and redeem code CLNS for $20 off game time.
00:54:42Download it today.
00:54:43What time is it?
00:54:44Game time,
00:54:45game time,
00:54:46game time.
00:54:47All right,
00:54:48that's game time.
00:54:49Now let's,
00:54:50let's get back to the Patriots.
00:54:51And like we said,
00:54:52what's going on with this passing attack?
00:54:54Because for the second week in a row,
00:54:56Taylor Patriots offense,
00:54:57only 15 completions only has less than a hundred.
00:55:01This time it was 149.
00:55:03So for two weeks straight,
00:55:0415 completions,
00:55:05less than 150 yard passing.
00:55:06And on Sunday,
00:55:08they only had one completion that went for 10 yards,
00:55:1110 yards,
00:55:12excuse me,
00:55:13or more.
00:55:14A lot of missed opportunities.
00:55:15As we know now,
00:55:16it's became a little bit of a storyline here.
00:55:18Pop Douglas,
00:55:19one target,
00:55:20no catches,
00:55:21three targets over the first two games.
00:55:23Someone who's arguably their best offensive player.
00:55:25They're not getting into the football.
00:55:26And finally the offensive line,
00:55:28the pressure it's killing the drives.
00:55:30It's speeding up Jacoby.
00:55:31Sometimes it's getting to him.
00:55:33He's obviously running for his life out there,
00:55:35even though he's making plays on it.
00:55:37But overall,
00:55:38let's take a look at exactly what's going on with this passing game.
00:55:41What's going on wrong.
00:55:43And also how they can potentially improve and moving forward.
00:55:46Yeah.
00:55:47So it was a little bit of everything with the Patriots passing him
00:55:50and why it struggled.
00:55:51Like we're asking where was the Mario Douglas?
00:55:53Why wasn't he more involved now?
00:55:54I will just say off the bat,
00:55:55there's no excuse for him having zero touches.
00:55:57He had one target that didn't count.
00:55:59And we'll get into what that target actually was.
00:56:01But for a player like him and Alex van Pelt is coming from a
00:56:05Cleveland offense.
00:56:06It did so many things where they were pretty good at scheming
00:56:08touches for their players.
00:56:09He has to get the ball,
00:56:11whether it's on quick throws,
00:56:12whether it's the first read,
00:56:13whatever it is,
00:56:14there's no excuse for him not having been involved in the passing
00:56:17attack point blank period.
00:56:19Now,
00:56:20at the same time,
00:56:21there were some moments where there were opportunities to maybe hit
00:56:24him,
00:56:25but they were thwarted because of pressure.
00:56:26And that's the thing where it's not one thing.
00:56:28It's not,
00:56:29you know,
00:56:30just a protection.
00:56:31It's not just receivers.
00:56:32If they're getting open or not,
00:56:33the Patriots need more time.
00:56:34Jacoby Bursette,
00:56:35you know,
00:56:36we'll have opportunities to make plays that he hasn't made.
00:56:38And that's kind of what we're starting off here.
00:56:39And bottom line,
00:56:40once again,
00:56:41the Mario Douglas needs to be in the ballpark.
00:56:43Yep.
00:56:44So we're going to start off with,
00:56:45this was the first third down to the game.
00:56:47It's third and two.
00:56:48All right.
00:56:49So Hunter Henry is going to shift inside right here.
00:56:51Basically the way that this plays out is essentially a zone coverage,
00:56:57but they're kind of matching it as well,
00:57:01because you're going to get a stack to the top into the bottom.
00:57:04Now I'm just going to let this play out first.
00:57:06People actually know what's going on.
00:57:08So the play ends in a sack because Michael Jordan ends up shipping,
00:57:15um,
00:57:16boy,
00:57:17Mafia,
00:57:18while material is trying to block him,
00:57:19which ends up kind of screwing,
00:57:21but area and low and forced out of the pocket.
00:57:23But my issue is I thought that Jacoby actually had two options open.
00:57:27So from here,
00:57:28we're going to get Austin Hooper pretty much really just running
00:57:31interference.
00:57:32He's going to run a corner,
00:57:33but he's trying to set a pick.
00:57:34Now Hunter Henry is going to trail behind Tim to create confusion before
00:57:38breaking inside.
00:57:39That's where the primary read for this play is.
00:57:42But then on the backside,
00:57:43you're going to get a crossing route underneath with Jalen Polk running a
00:57:48dig on what's basically a high low,
00:57:50right?
00:57:51So I thought initially,
00:57:53and we're going to let this run through once more,
00:57:55when Jacoby gets to the top of his drop,
00:57:58there's space right here.
00:58:00You can throw with some anticipation,
00:58:02even if you just want to wait for a Hunter to look at you,
00:58:04there's room here,
00:58:05right?
00:58:06Yeah.
00:58:07If you want to put this low,
00:58:08if you want to throw it early,
00:58:09so this defender can't get in this window to like hurt Hunter Henry,
00:58:12there's a throw to be made here.
00:58:14Even if you say,
00:58:15I don't like the window.
00:58:16Okay,
00:58:17fine.
00:58:18Jacoby.
00:58:19Now you're looking down the middle towards Jalen Polk,
00:58:22who has all this space to work with because this concept underneath where you
00:58:26had the high low sucked up the underneath defender and the running back is
00:58:30leaking out of the backfield as well.
00:58:31He's got time there too,
00:58:33man.
00:58:34Sit,
00:58:35take a hit.
00:58:36If you have to on the back and throw like,
00:58:37and even if he has to fade,
00:58:39like you can make this throw on the run.
00:58:41If you,
00:58:42yeah,
00:58:43I know that Jacoby has struggled to throw on the run,
00:58:45but like,
00:58:46even this is a little,
00:58:47Oh wow.
00:58:48I'm breaking news.
00:58:49Jalen Rager was released from the practice squad after basically tweeting
00:58:52left in the garage.
00:58:54That's something.
00:58:56Yeah.
00:58:57Yeah.
00:58:58We can,
00:58:59you tweet something about that and I'll just,
00:59:02I'll keep talking to the people,
00:59:03but yeah,
00:59:04I mean,
00:59:05it seems like Jalen Rager wanted more of an opportunity and I guess he'll
00:59:07get it now was obviously a primary returner in the summer and was their
00:59:11backup X receiver.
00:59:12But it looks like Jayvon Baker may have that role.
00:59:15Now,
00:59:16after he was active last week and Jalen Rager two weeks in a row,
00:59:18he's not activated.
00:59:19So maybe he just wasn't happy with his role.
00:59:21And they said,
00:59:22all right,
00:59:23find a role somewhere else.
00:59:24I really do wonder if,
00:59:25how much that has to do with the thing he tweeted or put on Instagram,
00:59:28or if it's just simply like roster manipulator,
00:59:30like roster moves,
00:59:31like on one hand,
00:59:33it'd be a little harsh to cut him after just posting an Instagram story
00:59:37and deleting.
00:59:38But at the same time,
00:59:39like,
00:59:40Hey,
00:59:41look,
00:59:42we don't do that shit here.
00:59:43That could be a thing too.
00:59:44Like,
00:59:45I wonder,
00:59:46I wonder how much that has to do it.
00:59:47Yeah,
00:59:48right.
00:59:49Exactly.
00:59:50But man,
00:59:51that's fascinating.
00:59:52Yeah.
00:59:53I mean,
00:59:54that's a play that Jacoby's got to make.
00:59:55Now this is the first third down of the game.
00:59:56Maybe he had jitters,
00:59:57but this is an ugly missed opportunity when you could have kept your first
01:00:00drive going instead.
01:00:01I believe it was a three and out.
01:00:02Yeah.
01:00:03Wait.
01:00:04No,
01:00:05I just wanted to play this one more time from,
01:00:07from the other angle for a second,
01:00:09only because.
01:00:10Yeah.
01:00:11No,
01:00:12from no,
01:00:13from the full.
01:00:14Nope.
01:00:15Not this one.
01:00:16The other one.
01:00:17Sorry.
01:00:18I'm sorry.
01:00:19No,
01:00:20you're fine.
01:00:21It's just,
01:00:22it's just,
01:00:23it's just,
