00:00:00What's going on, guys?
00:00:13Taylor Kyles.
00:00:14I see Taylor.
00:00:15You know how Taylor's cold?
00:00:16His shoulders get scrunchy, okay?
00:00:19Right now, Taylor's posing like a guy who wears a 40 long and he's really like a 44,
00:00:24you know?
00:00:25But he's just like Jesse because he's a little cold and scrunchy.
00:00:29And I just see it in you.
00:00:30You gotta get used to this New England weather up here, Taylor.
00:00:32This is...
00:00:33It's not getting better than this, my man.
00:00:36But here we are and I guess, look, hooray!
00:00:39I guess.
00:00:40A dub.
00:00:41A dub.
00:00:42And look, we'll get into...
00:00:44We know what's going on here.
00:00:47Patriots fans don't believe the season is going anywhere.
00:00:50Patriots fans, many of them want a better draft pick.
00:00:54Many of them feel kind of eh about victories, especially one that isn't led by your rookie
00:00:59quarterback to shine a light on everything, you know, present and future.
00:01:04But this was a great win and there's no other way to look at it for a team that desperately,
00:01:10desperately needed good vibes this week.
00:01:13And if it went in the other direction or if the Patriots looked like the Jets looked today,
00:01:18oh my god.
00:01:19Because they don't have the same margin for error.
00:01:21If they looked as bad or played as poorly as the Jets did today, people would have lost
00:01:26their jobs on Monday.
00:01:27And so they needed this.
00:01:29I'm serious.
00:01:30I think it would have been bad.
00:01:32And they needed this.
00:01:33You could tell how much it meant to the coaches with a little sideline celebration after Drake's
00:01:37touchdown.
00:01:38Whatever the hell that was.
00:01:39Even one of them is invited to the cookout.
00:01:41I'm going to...
00:01:44Was that like kid and play house party sort of stuff?
00:01:46Is that what they're trying to do?
00:01:47Ain't my type of hype.
00:01:48We couldn't see the lower half.
00:01:49I was like, unless you guys did like a foot tap or something.
00:01:53That was so awesome.
00:01:54I thought it was...
00:01:55They were like, holy shit.
00:01:56We have a quarterback that can run.
00:01:57We have a quarterback that can kick each other.

00:15:00get sauce to that was a great route by him to sauce to flip his hips to the
00:15:04sideline before he broke in to get open if Jacoby had like a split second more
00:15:08and could have let it go like without getting hit I think I would have been a
00:15:11touchdown but you got to give I think percent a lot of credit cuz he threw
00:15:15that knowing he was about to get hit I guess one thing getting hit by a
00:15:18defensive lineman or even a linebacker safeties are usually like 210 215 when
00:15:24they are running at full speed that's one of those in yards it's one of most
00:15:27violent hits you can possibly take so I was just like oh my god I'm like I was
00:15:31terrified as soon as I saw that happen but I just want to like give a tip of
00:15:35the cap to Jacoby because that was one of like a few big hits he took but
00:15:38especially that one that was a gutsy throw for sure and on the play as well
00:15:41I'll say Keishon Keishon booty just put on his Instagram story and I saw which
00:15:46is really important those guys get to social media I was gonna say when win or
00:15:50lose that's no matter guys and let your feelings be known it doesn't matter what
00:15:56just get it out there go ahead yeah a couple drops from Keishon booty he puts
00:15:59he puts on his Instagram so we're all over it now because that's all they do
00:16:02it's not about how you start it's about how you finish and kudos to him he
00:16:06finished really well stems up sauce gardener breaks inside makes a nice
00:16:10diving catch doesn't get in the end zone makes it harder on them but at the end
00:16:13of the day good stuff by booty to bounce back up just please no more comments
00:16:16about like never dropping passes or having the best answer in that room like
00:16:19please like you don't need to be humble don't put that out there because as soon
00:16:24as he said I'm like Keishon you're great you're awesome I've seen you drop
00:16:27like multiple passes let's not do that but you know he's an athlete they have
00:16:31to have a different mentality I get it and again kudos him for finishing on
00:16:35really high difficulty plays less is more say say nothing yes yeah I mean
00:16:40again special especially as a rookie especially as a rookie man I mean I know
00:16:45he's a second year guy but a young young player who hasn't made any mark yet it's
00:16:49just smarter to not get yourself involved there so as far as this goes
00:16:54the other major storyline again we'll get to drink I don't think there's much
00:16:57question that may is going to return as a starter well you know once he does get
00:17:00you know cleared and Mayo alluded to you know as much in his postgame press
00:17:08conference we can't wait to get him back and he did want to return and who knows
00:17:10now I want to be he is in the protocol for sure right and the the return to
00:17:14play the return to play is is not great within a week for guys I think it's 20
00:17:20to 30 percent can return to play by that Sunday it's very unlikely usually it
00:17:24takes ten days to two weeks for people to clear the protocol so it's very
00:17:28unlikely that's gonna be another Jacoby Brissett game against Tennessee and that
00:17:32is you'll have to live with it but the other major storyline again there's no
00:17:35quarterback controversy here just you know but it was a soft thing like this
00:17:40was the big storyline coming in this was a tough week for Gerard Mayo for a
00:17:47lot of people involved at the Patriots with Mayo and everybody at home knows it
00:17:51but just to rehash it briefly he refers to his team as soft after Sunday's loss
00:17:55last week and then walks it back on Monday they're not soft just sometimes
00:18:00we play soft and we weren't sure how the players would respond to a man I would
00:18:04say everyone we spoke to in Foxborough this week didn't seem that they had
00:18:10they're like yeah it's fair to say that he's okay we are playing soft and should
00:18:15motivate us there wasn't a lot of kickback but that's what they were
00:18:19saying really we were gonna know when they got to the field whether or not
00:18:23whether or not that how they truly felt about themselves and about their
00:18:29coaching staff and a lay down effort today I think would have been a really
00:18:32tough thing to come back from for a lot of people in Foxborough I don't know
00:18:36where they would have gone from here if they came out and it was the last Jets
00:18:39game all over again so good that this happened here but again do you think you
00:18:43think the response was there from the from the get-go from these guys it
00:18:47seemed like it it's just everything changed when may went out just the whole
00:18:51vibe and the feeling about what was going on in the game what was going to
00:18:54happen it's hard to remember but it felt like they kind of jumped they took to
00:19:00the challenge with the exception of physical mistakes like drops which again
00:19:04we're gonna the receivers are gonna get get there's a little bit later oh you
00:19:08know you never wait but yeah sorry yeah no I'm glad you said that because when
00:19:12you asked I was like honestly it's kind of hard to remember the exact flow the
00:19:16game because it had so many different momentum shifts like Oh Drake Mays
00:19:20looking good then the Jets scoring back-to-back drives and Patriots don't
00:19:24and then you know you have okay now Jacoby's in and they're just running the
00:19:27ball to get in the halftime oh wait they actually have some momentum it was just
00:19:30it was a lot of back and forth there I think that was the point where I don't
00:19:34think you can say that this has been obviously even in the blowouts I don't
00:19:38think this is a team that's ever rolled over and obviously it feels like a big
00:19:42moral victory when you still got blown out or you lost decisively but even like
00:19:46going back to the Jaguars game when they're getting punched in the mouth
00:19:48kicked in the teeth whatever you want to say then towards the end they still have
00:19:53a fourth down stop right in low scoring territory so it's like I remember
00:19:57saying all right like I don't I really I feel like this is really grasping its
00:20:00jaws here but there is some pride we've seen teams actually roll over where it's
00:20:04like these guys were dead in the water for an entire quarter I've never really
00:20:08felt that with this team it's more just been like okay they're not soft to the
00:20:12degree that they're just gonna quit on their coach but it also is like is it a
00:20:16talent thing is it a coaching thing like we've been talking about like what is it
00:20:19that this team can't get over the hump and finish these games or when they get
00:20:23some momentum why can't they hold on to it and actually get over the finish line
00:20:26we finally saw that today and like you said John I think we were all coming into
00:20:30this like I don't know how I can mentally handle a loss because it was
00:20:33only gonna get more toxic like you seen last week it's just been a mess like
00:20:37we're talking about media civil wars and all this bullshit like I was
00:20:41honestly so sick of all the like the talking points this week and I'm just
00:20:44thinking like please I just want to talk about football I love going at each
00:20:49other I don't I can't have that okay I've got a lot of people out there they
00:20:55put you on right in the middle of that one didn't they but I've worked with and
00:21:01where you know people who I respect and adore you know as both professionals and
00:21:06and you know and humans yeah humans going out I just can't have that yeah so
00:21:12yeah no I was just gonna say it's it the soft stuff I mean again like I said
00:21:19earlier it was obviously self-inflicted right that wasn't something that was
00:21:22conjured up by the media that people want to say like Gerard Mayo said it and
00:21:26then he had to he had to speak for it and it you're right John it seemed like
00:21:30inside the walls for the most part now I did have some some conversation with
00:21:34people who didn't necessarily like it but at the end of the day they'd still
00:21:37know they played soft just thought that it should have kept been you know kept
00:21:40internal outside out there and externally but they all agree and they
00:21:44all admit that they played soft against Jacksonville and I thought this was the
00:21:47opportunity to go out there and show that you're not a softball team right
00:21:50and there go ahead go ahead go ahead go ahead Mike finish no just just the just
00:21:55the fact that you know they're not a softball team and there was a ton of
00:21:58adversity today and the biggest one obviously your best player on offense
00:22:01goes down with an injury and you have to go to your backup and the fact that
00:22:04you had veteran leadership there a captain to come in and you know
00:22:07defensive players Kyle Duggar out right there things like that and so they come
00:22:12in they play tough and they win the football game so they answered the bell
00:22:14100% on the soft stuff and I think they sort of put that to bed for now because
00:22:18like you said they desperately needed a win also hat tip to John Jones for
00:22:22playing safety when we didn't even know if he was gonna be active in this game I
00:22:25know for years people have been like why are we getting John Jones at safety
00:22:29when's it gonna happen I never thought that he I mean obviously it was a
00:22:32full-time role most of his snaps did look like they were at safety I know
00:22:35last year when the depth chart got really really thin we saw Myles Bryant
00:22:39more in that role right they don't have a Myles Bryant obviously Marcus Jones it
00:22:42seems like his assignment was shadowing Garrett Wilson obviously that was very
00:22:45up and down but John Jones like Mike Pellegrino says every time we talk to
00:22:49him he's like whenever I get a chance to talk about John Jones I love to because
00:22:52this is the toughest guy I've ever coached so I wanted to give him some
00:22:55love too I feel like he may slide under the radar but that was a gutsy
00:22:58performance from him contributing when he was questionable entering the game
00:23:01yeah and now we're gonna hear from Gerard Mayo here but well let's hear
00:23:05from Gerard because Gerard talked about the the soft stuff and kind of the vibes
00:23:08going into the week
00:23:12they're early in the game and thought Jacoby was ready to go it wasn't perfect
00:23:17and hope but at the same time I thought the operation was good I thought he made
00:23:21some good throws and we just got to continue to build on that I thought up
00:23:24front the pass pro was pretty good there was a time where 95 started kind of
00:23:28taking over the game a little bit but I thought the guys again showed the
00:23:31resilience that they've developed over the past few weeks really proud of the
00:23:36guys or a lot of there was a lot of noise and a lot of chatter I'm very
00:23:39appreciative of just their attitude and professionalism on an everyday basis I
00:23:43thought it was good look I would say the guys on special teams I thought the
00:23:48energy I thought the energy overall was better it's good to get a win here at
00:23:52home and Gillette the team played soft want to give you a chance this week
00:23:56different outcome what word would you to describe to describe the way the team
00:24:01played today I don't think I've ever really questioned the resilience of this
00:24:06team and I'm not gonna go back to those comments what I will say is we have a
00:24:10room full of guys with the mentality that you know you got to change the page
00:24:14every day every day is a new day and we have to get better and understand that
00:24:17practice is the most important thing we do until we get to the to the game so
00:24:20yeah I walked in a halftime and some and you know the competitor that he is
00:24:25obviously he wanted to go back out there and play but there's a protocol
00:24:28that he has to go through and and again can't wait to get him back took out
00:24:32Drake did you have any conversations with the officials on that and were you
00:24:36kind of surprised that Pelly wasn't called you know they didn't call it I
00:24:40did I had conversations with them the entire game I thought you know some of
00:24:43those calls were questionable but at the same time I have to go back and watch
00:24:47the film and and we'll have those conversations I mean that's not a
00:25:00penalty he's a runner at that point and you know he's beginning his slide very
00:25:03very late but it's not a targeting situation as a runner I think that he's
00:25:09he's open to it that's not he's a runner he's a ball carrier I don't think that's
00:25:13you can't hit a guy helmet to helmet if he's a runner though and the guy slid
00:25:18into the helmet thing you can hit you can hit the runner you can hit the ball
00:25:22carrier there I don't think that that was I think everyone made a huge deal
00:25:25out of that regardless number two the the the male soft stuff could have gone a
00:25:31couple of ways right because they could have said all the right things but if
00:25:35they didn't play the right way if they go out there that was the thing is part
00:25:40of going out there with the soft stuff would be I'll I'll do my part now the
00:25:44onus is on you guys to do yours and I think van Pelt kind of falls into that
00:25:47bucket too because he's come under fire it's all right I'm gonna play my ass off
00:25:51are you gonna do enough to put us in a position to win so it's almost like a
00:25:54reverse challenge thrown back at them I'll ask you this from a coaching
00:25:58perspective and again there's certain things you have to absolutely you know
00:26:03look at and say this was better you know protection was better there were certain
00:26:07things that they did that were better than they've done in the past and their
00:26:10D backs played great and the run defense shored up these are three things
00:26:14that have not been going great at all and so I don't know how much you
00:26:18attribute that to the players stepping up and not being soft how much you
00:26:22attribute to coaching and things that the coaches themselves did how much
00:26:25credit you want to give to van Pelt for having to alter a game plan switching
00:26:30quarterbacks and being able to put a plan together that would put them in a
00:26:33position where they had a shot at winning which they ultimately did how
00:26:36much credit are you giving to the coaches here for what they were able to
00:26:39do to get the guys prepared to play and to make the right adjustments in game
00:26:42to to get them to win well if we're gonna sit here and say that we have to
00:26:46blame the coaches when they do play on discipline and when they do play poorly
00:26:48when they can't finish games we have to give them credit for this because the
00:26:51coaching does set the standard now I don't think there was nearly as many
00:26:55egregious penalties there were some penalties but like Gerard Mayo said I
00:26:58think when we look back there's gonna be some that were very ticky-tack but it
00:27:02didn't feel like they were shooting themselves in the foot quite as often
00:27:04the execution wasn't perfect but it wasn't like oh my god they have second
00:27:08and like five just got themselves a penalty and now it's second and ten like
00:27:11those kinds of real back-breaking penalties I didn't feel like they got
00:27:14quite as often as they have in other games and then with the coaches setting
00:27:18that standard preparing them getting them in whatever position they were in
00:27:20to be better and to be in a position where they could capitalize late in the
00:27:24game obviously you've got to give the players more credit than anybody else on
00:27:27both sides of the spectrum I think because they are the ones who are on the
00:27:30field but I think more so in a victory obviously it does go to the players but
00:27:33yeah I wanted to my cap to the coaching staff and the players because there is
00:27:37no one or the other especially in the game like this where it is tight and
00:27:40they have every reason to kind of just stop playing if they really don't care
00:27:44and if they're not really is invested in their coach or with their team and like
00:27:47I said earlier I do believe that Mayo thinks this is a resilient team because
00:27:51he's never seen them truly quit it's more just been like we got to figure out
00:27:54how to get that little extra juice that gets us to win obviously like the Jets
00:27:58are talented they're not a good team they're highly dysfunctional damn next
00:28:02week the Patriots are gonna play at another highly dysfunctional Titans team
00:28:05so the next two weeks are the times where you really need to start getting
00:28:08your feet back onto you and saying okay we have some confidence but we also need
00:28:11to get better how can we do both of these things to be more competitive
00:28:14against teams that have talent and are well coached and can actually execute on
00:28:18a consistent and I like the way you mentioned the coaching to where you know
00:28:20we're gonna hold their feet to the fire when they lose you got to give them the
00:28:23credit when they win so kudos to them as well and we talked about the next man up
00:28:26mentality especially on offense right with Jacoby comes in but just saw a
00:28:30video from the locker room that the Patriots actually posted and Rod Mayo
00:28:32mentioning that next man up mentality Marte Mapu Jalen Hawkins Del Pettis all
00:28:37get game balls today with Kyle Duggar out in the safety room like you mentioned
00:28:41it John that the past defense was solid today all the defensive back step up
00:28:44Christian Gonzalez obviously has another great game but that safety room Jonathan
00:28:48Jones moves over to they all step up they get game all stay that next man up
00:28:51mentality was not only on offense but on the defensive side as well so kudos to
00:28:54the players too and to your point on Del Pettis he's a guy spoke to him in the
00:28:57locker room like a few weeks ago because when they played the 49ers he had a
00:29:00couple man coverage reps against against George Kittle which really good
00:29:04and that's really been his role a lot of the time is being that man coverage guy
00:29:07where sometimes we'll see Mapu or Duggar in that role and I spoke to him and
00:29:10asked you know like how are you so comfortable because there were times
00:29:13where he was at depth against Kittle and didn't panic once the tight end got in
00:29:17his grill and he said a lot of that is just like the coaching he did mention
00:29:20your bro Peppers as a mentor obviously he's not here now but the fact that
00:29:24leaders in the room would call him out when he thought he had a good rep and be
00:29:27like no no no you need to do X Y Z to be better on the next and there was
00:29:31almost an interception Jalen Hawkins came very close to picking off a pass
00:29:34because Del Pettis was so tight on Tyler Conklin that Aaron Rodgers tried to hit
00:29:38that tight end back shoulder and wound up throwing a really bad ball again
00:29:41almost got picked off so tip of the cap to Del Pettis especially Jalen Hawkins
00:29:46he's all over the place it can be kind of tough to see what exactly he's done
00:29:49in the game but Marte Mapu got a shout out from his coaches and also Del Pettis
00:29:52the undrafted free agent restarting the Patriots streak and getting those guys
00:29:56on the opening 53 I thought he had some unnotable moments today.
00:29:59Fun little thing for all the Jets haters out there if you want to point out just
00:30:03again drinking Jets tears is gonna be something great and a terrific thing
00:30:07about this this is this victory and I'm gonna bathe in it Jets had zero
00:30:10turnovers held the Patriots to 247 yards and lost first team to
00:30:16lose a game in which they did not turn the ball over and hold their opponent to
00:30:19under 250 since week three of the 2012 season so you got to be doing a lot bad
00:30:24in order for this to happen and the Jets again there was a lot was that
00:30:29Patriots Jets in the rain was that the game? I don't know. You remember that ugly
00:30:36Gino Smith game? Guys I don't do the research I read someone else's tweets okay?
00:30:41Yeah I was gonna say he just read it from the first thing I thought of. You're like the news anchor
00:30:45calling out the reporter in the field and I have only the two pieces of
00:30:48information I've given you like well what can you tell me about nothing I've
00:30:52told you everything I know. Nothing. God leave me alone. I went too hard on the football nerd in there my bad.
00:31:02What down and distance was it when they actually held them? No it's I can't yeah
00:31:06Was he aware of what part of the field they were on in the last possession? Were they going towards the White House? Away from the White House?

00:34:23with them because there's a redemption arc what were you seeing you're right
00:34:33because we're gonna forget about him completely what were you seeing out of
00:34:36me before he left the game I thought there was the first game other than
00:34:41obviously I think this first throw which honestly really is like leaving my brain
00:34:44there was did he miss his first throw I don't know I know that he had the nice
00:34:49booty there was nothing there and I think that was a throwaway that wasn't a
00:35:02real pass it was that was my only read here that's the only shot I had it's not
00:35:06open I'm just gonna throw it over his head that wasn't it I don't I mean to
00:35:09the completion but at a great yeah right well that one was just he didn't get
00:35:13under it I just wasn't sure if it was one of those like we've seen where he
00:35:16just puts a lot of air under it and lets him run because also sauce covered
00:35:19him so well booty wasn't running close beat the whole time so I think it's
00:35:23kind of partially both were may try to just make it so alright let's get a lot
00:35:27so that's harder for sauce to get it but like a booty about halfway through was
00:35:30just getting jammed in route which slowed him down but yeah I thought Drake
00:35:34was making good decisions for the most part almost every pass after that was a
00:35:37plus throw at least from what I could see initially the times that he ran like
00:35:41I my favorite thing about him is that Alex van Pelt kept telling us this guy
00:35:45needs to protect himself the scariest thing with a rookie quarterback is them
00:35:48not knowing how to protect their bodies whether it's getting the ball out on
00:35:52time having answers against the blitz like any of those things I think Drake
00:35:55may has that internal clock and it's still in a really good place where he
00:35:58knows alright the reads not really there but I can feel an escape hatch I'm just
00:36:02gonna take advantage of it I thought he did that really well today but I mean
00:36:05obviously it's an incomplete grade because he left so early but still I
00:36:08thought it was a really promising start one of his better starts overall
00:36:11obviously you know had the touchdown drive last week but still overall I
00:36:14really liked the early stuff from me yeah the passing was good the three
00:36:18incompletions I'll just add quickly I like the stuff on the ground too I mean
00:36:21yeah for 46 46 yards on three carries averaging over 15 yards of pop obviously
00:36:25he has the 17-yard touchdown as well but I mean a guy who can clearly make plays
00:36:29with his legs we haven't seen that in a Patriots quarterback since Cam Newton to
00:36:33pair it with the arm he has it's special to see him to be able to go and scamper
00:36:37for 11 yards for a first down when you're backed up like that it's it it
00:36:40that's that's the type of quarterback play you need in the NFL nowadays and he
00:36:43came very close to leading the team in rushing for what would have been the
00:36:46third week in a row I think it was just the very end of it that got I'm sure it
00:36:49was from Andre Stevenson the yards he needed but you know that's not nothing
00:36:53because he left so early and still almost finished the game as their
00:36:56leading rusher well to your point Taylor what you said about the protecting
00:36:59himself you know and again they don't know right and you're gonna fight for
00:37:02that extra yard and this was kind of like the play he got hurt on was a
00:37:05little bit of a half slide where maybe if he if he if he slides a little bit
00:37:09earlier he avoids that hit and he's on his way down and he catches a glancing
00:37:13blow off the back of the head as he's about down to the ground there but what
00:37:18I liked was that he seemed to be more open to doing it quickly and I thought
00:37:26she thought in the first couple of starts I could be wrong I felt like they
00:37:29were trying he was trying to stay in the pocket because that's what you're
00:37:32supposed to do in the NFL and I think a knock on a lot of rookie quarterbacks is
00:37:36I my first read isn't there I'm just gonna go you know like this and he
00:37:40wasn't doing that he was going through his progressions for better or for worse
00:37:44doing a pretty good job in the pocket maybe a couple of times where he could
00:37:47have stepped up into it or been able to manipulate the pocket to stay in there
00:37:50and make a throw maybe it took a bad sack or two but again that's any
00:37:54quarterback not just a rookie quarterback but I actually felt he was
00:37:56holding back on what he could do and the Jets were daring him to run when they
00:38:00were overloading one side on on a pressure and just leaving a whole
00:38:05massive you know gap open there or just rushing three and dropping guys in a
00:38:09coverage that's a gift for a player of Drake Mays caliber and that's something
00:38:13you start doing that defenses have to account for it and it opens up so many
00:38:18other things particularly a team here that has receivers who lack to get
00:38:22separation and there's not a lot of man beaters out here so if you don't have
00:38:26the numbers and you're trying to scheme people open it's difficult to do and if
00:38:30they're just gonna drop guys into coverage and just figure it out go just
00:38:34go I and I loved seeing it it was just really unfortunate and I did the way
00:38:37that it did and to your point so I know that like other teams at least I remember
00:38:42the Texans were trying to blitz him with man coverage he killed that the
00:38:45touchdown actually came when they had a spy on him they tried to rush him the
00:38:49rush lane discipline was horrendous like that lane he had was just unacceptable
00:38:53that's the Patriots last time they played the Jets where it's like why is
00:38:57nobody defending the middle of the pocket or just giving all these escape
00:39:00hatches and they tried to spy him with a linebacker and then I saw him on the
00:39:03edge I was like oh is he gonna outrun him can he do it can he do it and
00:39:06obviously he did so you're seeing the Drake Mesa kind of guy you don't want
00:39:10to mess around in man coverage too much because he can beat you with his legs he
00:39:13can outrun linebackers if you try to have them you know spy him and obviously
00:39:17he can hit the in breakers he can hit the out breakers like he has every
00:39:21answer in his toolbox it should come down to it just comes down to him to
00:39:24consistency and obviously his receivers catching the ball there's a little bit
00:39:27of Josh Allen goofiness to the way he runs to where it's like he gets to the
00:39:31edge he gets there and he gets his arm in and scores he almost he almost ran
00:39:35into the wall over here when he went and then on the one where when the run
00:39:39where he ends up getting the concussion to he looked like he was about to fall
00:39:41caught his feet again and then gets another four or five six yards and then
00:39:44ends up sliding but maybe giraffe no it's good to see it's it I like
00:39:49Washington scamper and not just be a pocket passer but also guy who can make
00:39:52plays with his legs now I saw Mike doing the shifter looking at his phone while
00:39:57we were while we were talking earlier just you catch something interesting
00:40:01that's worth bringing to the attention of the people at home no no I was being
00:40:05too loud to be honest we're surrounded by other we're surrounded by new jobs
00:40:08and I'm dealing with straight man yeah so I had to give him I had to give him a
00:40:11note yeah excited I've been so sad six weeks straight hey you with this spot on
00:40:16the field and you get to talk as loud as you want to talk and if people don't
00:40:20like it they can move down a slot or two we got the whole thing they got it all
00:40:24it's all there okay we're surrounded by friends and so yeah plenty of space to
00:40:29go okay you're frankly you're right but so don't don't we're not gonna get it to
00:40:33that don't worry we can't stoke the civil war send them to me let's get into
00:40:42it for real and so I don't I'm not trying to end bad it's just I didn't
00:40:45want to bring up early in a loss I mean in a win the thing that sucked and was
00:40:50driving people crazy and again Taylor you talked about the the wild swings of
00:40:56like what do I care about in this game right now and it was so hard because it
00:41:01was like I hate Aaron Rodgers and I love Drake May and now Drake is hurt
00:41:05Oh Jacoby this is depressing and what the F is going on with the receivers and
00:41:09like what the hell was a dance Mayo did and like do I even want to win yes I
00:41:14want to win Marcus Jones what is happening and so there's so many
00:41:18different things there and again after the week that these dudes had the
00:41:24receivers I can't believe the game started the way that it started with the
00:41:29Thornton drop which is just hands and that's his look there's almost nothing
00:41:33he's done well at the NFL level but like you're gonna send the guy downfield I
00:41:39mean catch the ball and it didn't happen they tried to run him on a little was a
00:41:45little screen or something too and he didn't get going after he doesn't have a
00:41:49he doesn't have an elite football skill outside of being able to run fast but
00:41:53what you're gonna get he's fast he's a track star he doesn't have a feel for
00:41:56the football no also he's really good at those love of the game routes yes
00:42:00very smart it knows how to clear out spaces what Tyler used to run really
00:42:03fast run fast and clear out the defense but look ball hits your head look it's
00:42:07simple you're in the NFL ball hits you in both hands you catch the ball you
00:42:12don't it's just a fail it doesn't matter it's like that's supposed to be
00:42:15automatic and you have that then you know booty making a business throw me
00:42:19the damn ball Keishon booty making a business decision little alligator arm
00:42:22going over the middle and look it's scary I'm glad that's not my job but
00:42:26it's his job and you can't do that and he drops one you certainly can't do it
00:42:30after the after the week that they had saying to anybody who would talk to them
00:42:35how much they deserve to get the ball and how you know you know from the
00:42:39Jalen Polk saying he has the best hands to booty to give me the ball to
00:42:43everybody to Osborne who didn't play at all today he played a little bit I saw
00:42:49a couple times this one I saw some times where he was on for pop and I was like
00:42:53why is this happening what is going on the drops that's all over the place and
00:42:59again it's multiple I think it was four maybe five throughout the game booty had
00:43:02five total his own yeah Thorne had one Thornton had one or had to booty had to
00:43:09you know one that one had to that's what it was okay yeah that's bad born not
00:43:14being the one who popped off but born also being a guy who you expect not he's
00:43:18always popular he's always talking about you know we have to play better
00:43:21now granted he takes accountability accountability but yeah he's not saying
00:43:26throw me the ball because I'm the best guy right there and then dropping a
00:43:29hundred place so all of that happened and then you have terrific redemption
00:43:34arc there with booty coming back and making huge plays the one I want to made
00:43:39a nice play yeah he did they dumped it all to him on third down he made a little
00:43:42guy missing made the conversion yep little yak and that was nice and that
00:43:46was a nice play by him and then as you guys already described that route where
00:43:50he kind of gets sauce to turn and then breaks it back inside and then a slight
00:43:55under throw because Brissett the rush is coming into his knowledge there he got
00:44:00smoked gets the throw off and booties got to break off that after going full
00:44:03speed and just getting into his break and come back to the balls a very
00:44:07athletic play and a slide to make that play and then the near touchdown where
00:44:10his knee is down on the inch line you know his knee is down with the ball on
00:44:14the one-inch line right beforehand I mean two critical plays and without
00:44:17those there is no there's no victory today and so a good redemption arc but
00:44:23I'll ask this is what if anything have we learned here like if we're the
00:44:27receivers like what is the narrative going to be going into next week like
00:44:32see I told you or is there some humiliation little humble pies or
00:44:36anything I don't think they're going to be so already posting so I don't know
00:44:41if any humility is gonna enter that room there's gonna be some changes in
00:44:45that room I think it may be down one Taekwon Thornton and one KJ Osborne come
00:44:49you know yeah what's the deadline next Tuesday I believe is the trade deadline
00:44:53so it's usually coming up the one come at the one after that you're either
00:44:56getting trade or you're getting cut I mean one of those I mean there's some
00:45:00promising stuff yeah case on booty has two drops today but there's obviously
00:45:04been some promising stuff from him over the last three weeks tomorrow Douglas is
00:45:07a guy who your third wide receiver and 11 personnel Jalen Polk he needs to
00:45:11figure it out Javon Baker missing curfew according to Mike Reese today he was
00:45:15active but didn't play a single offensive snap was a surprise yeah but
00:45:29no there's they need a lot of help in the wide receiver room they still need a
00:45:32true number one a true X and whether that is through the draft with the
00:45:35tech McMillan whether that's their free agency with the T Higgins they do need
00:45:38to do more next season to help Drake may in this room so yeah there's there's a
00:45:43few notable building blocks I would say with guys in pop and in case on booty is
00:45:48someone who who can seemingly fill in that you know an X or Z roll if you need
00:45:52it but you know guys like Kendrick for in case on Kendrick Warren KJ Osborne
00:45:56excuse me and Taekwon Thornton that they should not be and they're not really a
00:46:00part of the the future of the Patriots in the wide receiver yeah I think the
00:46:03ones that you really think are gonna hopefully you know show this team
00:46:06something as the year goes on and hopefully next year for real are booty
00:46:10pop poke and then Baker and all those guys if they do just figure it out it
00:46:15can find some way to be consistent at the things are good at it's a really
00:46:18good young receiving car I think it's one of the better ones in the NFL just
00:46:21considering how many different skill sets you have how inter you need a big
00:46:24bounce back from Jalen Polk rather than oh no I'm saying like down the road
00:46:27these guys are gonna be on the team for another like two three years so or
00:46:31obviously their circumstances but you're thinking okay if these guys can grow
00:46:35with Drake may have some rapport and again the consistency is key but yeah if
00:46:38you bring that one guy that puts you over the top and has a truly elite
00:46:41skill set who dictates coverages maybe someone were in those ten situations you
00:46:45can go to him and he can score or because if you double it one guy I think
00:46:49that's where the rest of this receiving core really gets to show how talented
00:46:52they can be again in some niche roles so yeah those are the foundational pieces
00:46:56but Taekwon Thornton I think he's maybe not at the end of his rope necessarily
00:47:00but he's clearly not a guy that you can rely on long-term and KJ Osborne's only
00:47:03on a one-year deal kind of redundant with Kendrick Bourne but neither one of
00:47:06them have really done enough that you can say oh yes we have to keep this guy
00:47:10no Kendrick at least has been on the team for a while and is more of an
00:47:12established leader so yeah I think a lot of board may stick around but yeah
00:47:16exactly but three yeah I don't know I don't think KJ and Taekwon are gonna but
00:47:20also that's the thing if if Bourne were showing out right now I think he'd be
00:47:24as well because you're looking ahead and you're building around things and you
00:47:28know I mean he was already potentially included in the IU deal and you know
00:47:32right now he's just not all the way back yet and he's not their guy because he
00:47:36has he has the ability on this team at least to be the kind of the target
00:47:41monster you know the guy that's the reliable guy that they look to and it's
00:47:44not happening yet whether that has to do with scheme or just simply he's just
00:47:47working his way back from you know reconstructive knee surgery hard to say
00:47:51it's it's it's a tough thing especially in those first couple of games back
00:47:54there but again whether you move on from Osborne yeah you move or you move on
00:48:02from Osborne and Thornton. Thank God for Hunter Henry. That's fine and thank goodness for Hunter
00:48:06Henry here but yeah that's I guess your keepers there if you're looking at it
00:48:10now it's interesting that Javon Baker as we talked about with the hiccup that he
00:48:14had was active didn't really get in there so I guess just being active was
00:48:20enough at this point there might be more of an opportunity if those guys do
00:48:25go at this point though you know in a week or so. Like this week we were told
00:48:30that he needed to do better on offense and special teams and he was saying you
00:48:34know it's not my time it's not my time so I think it did sound like yeah
00:48:37offensively probably wasn't gonna have a role today but when he was active Jeremy
00:48:41Springer said he had a good week of practice so then it sounded like okay
00:48:43he's probably just gonna play special teams right what surprised me was usually
00:48:46he's more of a coverage guy he hasn't really been back there actually getting
00:48:49the ball so at least it's a it's he had his first NFL touch today actually was
00:48:53yeah right so at least he's doing something behind the scenes and I
00:48:57understand yes he got in trouble last week but we got the actual confirmation
00:49:00of the news later this week for him and the team I'm sure that was well behind
00:49:04them they sat him down he wasn't active he got took his punishment then it was
00:49:08how do you bounce back from it and clearly he did enough to inspire some
00:49:11confidence have to be in a healthy scratch for multiple weeks and it wasn't
00:49:13even like he was just on the roster because they needed to have him active
00:49:17like we were kind of talking about that there were so many guys hurt being a
00:49:20healthy scratch right it was that there was the idea where okay is he just out
00:49:23here just to be active because you know they need to have 47 or 46 guys on the
00:49:28active roster for the game but no he actually did play a little bit where
00:49:30Uche was the healthy scratch yeah Uche had played less than 20 snaps two weeks
00:49:34in a row zero pressures and it feels like once a week he has one glaring
00:49:37mistake last week he missed a tackle in space that contributed to a conversion I
00:49:41think it was on third down or at least an explosive play so yeah it seems like
00:49:44Javon Baker truly is making strides and obviously everybody wants to see him on
00:49:48the field he's the only true X receiver on this team
00:49:51Keishon Booty filled that role today but he's 5'11 you don't want X receivers
00:49:55being 5'11 because as you can see like guy like sauce there's not a whole lot
00:49:59you can do which is the guys bigger stronger and faster than you he's really
00:50:02better at the Z where they've tried to have him kind of mixing in with Kendrick
00:50:05Lawrence so you know another step in the right direction for Javon Baker so I did
00:50:11want to ask here sorry and I got sidetracked the like what do you see him
00:50:17earning snaps at something like at some point you see it grow and then you said
00:50:21it wasn't necessarily his time do you see it growing for him potentially for
00:50:26Baker yeah for Baker I'll frankly I'll say only if they do end up moving one of
00:50:29these guys in Taekwon Thornton KJ Osborne because right now I think
00:50:32they're pretty steadily ahead of him on the depth chart and we also see what
00:50:36happens when a guy like Jalen Paul comes back from the concussion but I do think
00:50:39that things have to happen that are outside of his control for him to really
00:50:42start to see snaps here only because it's been the thing where and Alex
00:50:46Pimpel said it he has to get better understanding the playbook being in the
00:50:49right spot being in the you know running the right road and things like that and
00:50:52I think the reason we haven't seen him on the field in an in on the offense is
00:50:57for those reasons and so unless he can really turn that around and that's gonna
00:51:01be the key here but I think as long as as long as Osborne and Taekwon
00:51:04Thornton are still here I think it's gonna be hard for him to see the field
00:51:07you said this at the beginning of camp like you said it early you said Baker's
00:51:10got you I think you may have made a kind of a bold prediction that Baker was your
00:51:15kind of like clubhouse leader to potentially be the X be that X receiver
00:51:19on this team and then there was a period of camp where it looked like oh this
00:51:24could be possible and then it kind of went quiet he was the best receiver for
00:51:27like three days in a row it was like him and pop and they looked completely
00:51:30different than everybody else and so that's kind of the thing is you saw some
00:51:34of it and it was like oh boy and that's the thing is like everything about you
00:51:38know being a Patriots fan these days is about what if what have we got something
00:51:41in this guy and you know like yeah yeah you got lightning in a bottle with with
00:51:45with with Douglas I mean you got lucky with that let's not say lucky you hit
00:51:49with a guy like Douglas even if he's not a Pro Bowl receiver to hit at that point
00:51:54in the draft and get anybody and a person who is probably by far your your
00:51:58best weapon currently as much as an indictment on the other weapons but he's
00:52:02real that booty you know we're seeing now a couple of things and he's flashing
00:52:06a little bit those are guys that you plucked out of nowhere Baker is a guy
00:52:10who's a second you know late first early second round talent who fell all the way
00:52:13to the fourth I think a lot of people were kind of hoping like did we out
00:52:16smart everybody here you know and again and I don't think that like oh he saw
00:52:21the field and played 12 snaps is gonna get people there and you want to see
00:52:24that talent if it's real or not real so assuming he puts the mental stuff
00:52:28together does he have the talent to get on the field to make an impact because
00:52:32you really do have to start seeing the guys make plays he can't just be all on
00:52:39Drake May running around and Hunter Henry being a security blanket and that's
00:52:43it and scheming a few things open from time to time you have to have somewhere
00:52:46in this point somebody help you out I do think he has a talent Alex Van Pelt has
00:52:51said he got great hands he can separate like it's not a skill set issue with
00:52:55Javon Baker it is the behind-the-scenes stuff and the reason I don't think that
00:52:58KJ Osborne and Taekwon Thornton are really a factor is because we've already
00:53:01seen those guys get benched for younger players Jalen Polk jumped I believe it
00:53:05was Taekwon Thornton then we saw Keyshawn Booty jump KJ Osborne like they
00:53:10really do want these young guys to get on the field especially because they
00:53:13know every snap with Drake May matters yep every opportunity to get more
00:53:16chemistry matters they want to go with the youth movement right now Kendrick
00:53:20Bourne obviously didn't have a good day but he's one of your more reliable guys
00:53:23in terms of veteran who knows what he's supposed to do understands how to be an
00:53:26NFL receiver Keyshawn Booty has been a legit starter for weeks and obviously
00:53:30DeMario Douglas like you said is one of their best guys but at that X spot they
00:53:33still haven't found a guy who can really win there they tried with Taekwon
00:53:37Thornton Jalen Rager was the number two once Javon Baker fell down the depth
00:53:40chart in training camp obviously he's dropping balls in Los Angeles now if
00:53:44he's even so on look really honest oh yes Jalen oh did you not see the play
00:53:49from last week where he like no then like it popped up in the air and they
00:53:52all right in front of the goal line threw a dart to him right in front of
00:53:55the end zone he fumbled it out of the back of the end zone it was a touchback I
00:53:58quote tweeted the video with his thing about um being a like what was it a
00:54:01fancy car yeah Lamborghini stuck in a nasty garage or whatever so yeah but
00:54:05those were the guys that were ahead of him obviously they don't have roles in
00:54:08this offense now they've been trying with Keyshawn Booty with Jalen Polk but
00:54:12we all know none of those guys are built to be X receivers they're just kind of
00:54:15the best options New England has in terms of guys they want on the field so
00:54:19I think as soon as Javon Baker asserts himself as someone who they can rely on
00:54:22he's gonna take that role and run away with it I think that's the key is the
00:54:27I don't doubt that he has a talent it's just we haven't seen him be a clearly he
00:54:31hasn't overcame that mental hurdle so if he can I think he'll pass those guys but
00:54:34I do think again them being in the room kind of makes it tough to crack the line
00:54:37up because then you go with the inactives and the numbers games and
00:54:39things like that but at the end of the day I'm with Taylor that he does have at
00:54:42least the skill set to play football in the NFL yeah but it's so again I put
00:54:46this number on the screen here seven receptions five drops 78 yards not a
00:54:53it's for the all the receivers is simply not good enough I mean if this if you
00:54:59were one receiver and this was your line you'd get fired like you'd lose your job
00:55:03dropping catching seven dropping five this is a horrible ratio so again it has
00:55:09to be better but we'll see you know next week Tennessee probably with Jacoby I
00:55:15don't know that we're gonna you're not gonna get that wide receiver fix
00:55:18necessarily right away because you do want to keep seeing some progress so who
00:55:21knows how that's gonna go so while we have it and while we can celebrate a
00:55:24Patriots victory because we don't know how many of these are coming this year
00:55:27let's also bask somewhat in the miserable failure that is the New York
00:55:32Jets and and and look and boy do they stink and again you're you know looking
00:55:39it up here and again we've got some very colorful AFC standings here but not last
00:55:43place the Dolphins are two and six not two and five so that's three two and six
00:55:47teams with the Patriots and the Jets and the Bills playing right now and
00:55:51that's what we have and it's just wonderful it's the best thing right now
00:55:56because a lot of people hate on the Jets for a lot of different things you know
00:56:00Mike Greenberg here Danny you know congrats to Rogers and being the Jets
00:56:06Jets easiest team in Jets history you know need to clean house fire the staff
00:56:12the GM cut Rogers going nowhere they're broken I don't know it is funny
00:56:18Will Parkinson who does a CRT CLNS media all 32s lol pretty much says it all so
00:56:26it's pretty terrific I mean the three calls in the first quarter that was
00:56:33insanely egregious three time over and then and then Aaron Rodgers on the
00:56:38two-point conversion gets the delay a game and they can't call the time out
00:56:40there but then they call one later so they don't have enough later it was just
00:56:43it was a complete nightmare game management wise we have yet to see
00:56:46anything that bad for Mayo and his staff that's the kind of thing where I feel
00:56:49like if that was the Patriots they would have gotten ripped oh yeah shreds
00:56:53especially in a loss like oh my god that would have been the storyline all week
00:56:57how do you excuse calling three timeouts before the first quarter is over it was
00:57:01like a minute and a half was left yeah that was minute and a half that was
00:57:03insane so also not going for it when they didn't go for and kick oh what was
00:57:09it oh yeah I was like fourth and one on the 11 yard line right I've been going
00:57:13in and it was it I forget the numbers but the math didn't math right it didn't
00:57:18make any sense it's like you really think the Patriots are gonna drive from
00:57:20here and go all the way down the field when they haven't shown you yet they can
00:57:23do that I thought that was I didn't really harp on something like hey not
00:57:26the team I cover not my chair but I thought that was I know the same
00:57:29decision and the Jets fans and reporters were not happy yeah and this is what
00:57:33happens and again the Jets aren't the only team that that's in this hole look
00:57:36where the Browns are with Deshaun Watson here you you kick in a lot of
00:57:39money and you kind of make this whole thing about one guy and it doesn't work
00:57:42out with Aaron Rodgers whether or not you think that his old guy one guy of
00:57:47questionable character questionable everything at this point but with
00:57:51Rodgers you've turned your entire franchise over to him and he's holding
00:57:55you hostage at this point and the reality is is he's fine um not a bad
00:58:00quarterback but he's 40 and he's not good enough to elevate the team and they
00:58:04keep trying to figure out ways to make things better for Aaron and to get his
00:58:08buddies and to hire his buddies and to fire people he's not on board with and
00:58:12they've chosen poorly and what do you got Taylor speaking of Aaron's buddies
00:58:18how about Devante Adams do a damn thing against Christian's out when God's always
00:58:23asked about the matchup after the game it felt like he was trying to be
00:58:27diplomatic because he was like we got the way we got the win which is
00:58:30translation for I put the clamps on that boy what do you mean what I think
00:58:34of the matchup what did you see about I respect him because he's Devante Adams
00:58:38and I don't want to speak ill of my elders but I pitched a fucking shutout
00:58:43today which is gone so did he didn't give up anything you know about it and
00:58:49here's Gonzalez talking about some stuff we have him here at the podium in
00:58:53addition to responding to to a big win from you know all that went on this week
00:58:57played soft and you guys came back at a team meeting what did the response what
00:59:02did you think of the response from your team today yeah I mean I hit on it you
00:59:06know that earlier in the week I mean he said it but I mean it wasn't that wasn't
00:59:12something he ain't say to us first I mean it's not nobody took it personal
00:59:15it's a challenge you know so I mean we came out and and did what we had to do
00:59:21would you assess your performance in the game and he also I liked he showed a
00:59:34little bit of character on the field oh yeah cut down Devante on the goal line
00:59:37and he he put he crossed his arms over him and then Christian Ellis and
00:59:40somebody else Marte Mapa over there and over I'm doing the same thing and then
00:59:44he got pumped up as he went to the sideline too so someone who's very quiet
00:59:46silent killer silent assassin sort of a the mold of Stephon Gilmore showing a
00:59:51little bit of you know don't don't fuck with me basically yeah every week we're
00:59:55seeing a little more that from Gonzo where you can see like oh he's like
00:59:58talking now I remember like early in the season he went over the sideline who was
01:00:01talking smack and I was like wait what is that the same guy that's zero right
01:00:05he's a killer I mean he's allowed to do it he's proven that he's one of the best
01:00:08quarterbacks in football so why not show a little bit of yourself when you can
01:00:11one of the top one of my one of the dumbest sports conversations that have
01:00:16been had around here in the last ten years was the I don't know if Gonzo can
01:00:20be an elite quarterback because he's not an asshole and I I hated that it is so
01:00:26dumb just cuz some people do it doesn't mean you have to you don't have to be
01:00:31like that and how people clamped on to this in New England after having gone
01:00:36through the Stefan Gilmore experience right is insane to me like what it was
01:00:41such a dumb narrative and like I don't care if he starts to talk or starts to
01:00:45get confident what you care is just shut him down and that's what he does on a
01:00:50pretty regular basis and he's so confident in his ability his technique
01:00:55and his recovery speed pretty much everything he's just I got this and he's
01:01:01got that perfect number one corner at it is he gonna win every battle no you saw
01:01:05Stefan digs beat him on a couple of balls you know and you had a you know
01:01:08the Seattle game with some up-and-down moments as well but you know and Thomas
01:01:13jr. I mean in a pretty good coverage gets over they get over the top it's a
01:01:16perfect throw it's a nice catch it happens you know a guy who's having a
01:01:19great you're gonna that's gonna happen you're not pitching a shout out every
01:01:22week but he's legit elite and any conversations of you know about his
01:01:27attitude or who he is I know you're grinning I just thought it was I thought
01:01:29it was so silly that that was a thing that people talked about well there was
01:01:33that and then there was also the well he had a he had an up-and-down training
01:01:37camp his rookie year played four games outstanding shut guys down rookie of the
01:01:40month then he gets hurt he comes back has a an up-and-down training camp again
01:01:44it's like oh is this guy just not a good player it's like no he's a freaking
01:01:47gamer he's a baller he's gonna get out there he's gonna show you the f-up and
01:01:50he's done it for you know the first half a dozen dozen games that he's played
01:01:54that's why we avoided that talking point like the plague this summer I was like
01:01:57you're not gonna catch me buying into the stock that Christian Gonzalez is bad
01:02:01because he's not performing well in training camp practice like even
01:02:04honestly I did acknowledge that Gonzo wasn't playing as well as he expected he
01:02:09was like wait what's going on and they had to talk and I think it was just
01:02:11something with Mike Pellegrino and like they were working on things so that kind
01:02:14of so to be fair I have to you know coach flight did acknowledge his coach
01:02:18that yeah even I was a little like what's going on exactly but you know
01:02:22don't question gone so like last year I remember people were saying oh it's just
01:02:25a small sample size like I don't know if it's good I was like no I watched I
01:02:30do not see rookies play like that when they are being asked to handle the
01:02:35toughest assignments every week he doesn't panic he knows that he's the
01:02:38best athlete on the field like when I asked my DK Metcalf I remember it was
01:02:41like what are you gonna get physical with him are you gonna out athlete I was
01:02:44like yeah I pretty much do whatever I need to yeah it's a great it's a great
01:02:48position to be in to beat to beat you know to have the size to have the
01:02:52strength and to be able to you know to have the agility the hips the speed
01:02:55there's really nobody you can't cover you've had Patriots locked down
01:02:59cornerbacks in the past that there's sometimes it's like well he doesn't have
01:03:03the foot speed to stay with like a Tyree kill so he's gonna play on the number
01:03:06two guy we're gonna have we're gonna put over-the-top help on the fast guy that's
01:03:09not the problem with God gonzo can lock down any person I am almost surprised
01:03:13that Adams was his primary assignment I'm not sure you get primary we'll look
01:03:18at it after but I feel primarily he was more Adams than anything else and I'm
01:03:22looking at that team and I'm sorry I'm looking at Wilson as the tougher as the
01:03:25tougher matchup he's Garrett Wilson yeah I'm sorry I'm going into it yeah no so
01:03:31going into what we were wondering like is gonzo gonna be on the boundary cuz
01:03:34last week that's what he did even with Brian Thomas jr. he really stayed on the
01:03:37side of the field where you have the one-on-one matchup today was shadowing
01:03:41Devante Adams which we were like okay that's like that's Aaron Rodgers guy you
01:03:44can take him out you probably have a decent shot but obviously here Wilson
01:03:48got his yeah he's still here Wilson 20 or something today he was a monster and
01:03:51Marcus Jones like had some really tough moments but he said himself like yeah I
01:03:54didn't have a very good game but I had a next play mentality and to his credit he
01:03:58made plays a couple times when not necessarily when he needed to he had
01:04:01some big plays allowed as well but uh you know yeah it was in the pun game as
01:04:06yeah so that's what he brings to it's not just the defensive side for him it's
01:04:09obviously the special teams of Jones as well yeah final takes guys anything
01:04:13we've left on the table hunter Henry's a baller he's having a career I think he's
01:04:18great he's he's turned himself into a leader even more so now with the captain
01:04:22see back on his jersey but I know he had a great game again I think once
01:04:25Drake Mays back out here I like they had that sort of security blanket mentality
01:04:29with him he's a go up and get a player and I thought he played really well
01:04:33tonight a couple guys I want to shout out Christian Ellis one obviously had
01:04:37the pass interference like that's one thing he's got to get a little better at
01:04:39but also for a special teamer who's learning to play more linebacker I think
01:04:44there are some moments where he's gonna panic we've seen that at times but the
01:04:47resiliency that he showed he was their leading tackler made several impact
01:04:51plays I'm a guy who he mentioned like the coaches really gave him an
01:04:54opportunity because of his athleticism and his coverage ability and his speed
01:04:58and really gave them credit for showing him where to put his eyes and for
01:05:01believing in him so I want to give him a huge shout out because that linebacker
01:05:04position has been a glaring weak spot for a while he's allowed guys to slide
01:05:09in more where they play well and also my guy the Darien freaking well the first
01:05:14Patriot I have ever interviewed in my career the guy had two pressures allowed
01:05:19I don't think he's giving up a sack yet this season I was trying to tell you
01:05:22all this obviously I'm not gonna do the full victory lap I won't do that to you
01:05:25because they're gonna get another left tackle it here eventually I was saying
01:05:29that when you put him on the left side his pressure rates last season were
01:05:32completely different and I'm looking I even looked back just to kind of see the
01:05:35comparison for this year and last year every rep I posted two hands two hands
01:05:39two hands now with Scott Peters he's using to a little bit better that's
01:05:42worth like one arm is longer than two is what they say now he's finally using
01:05:47that length that great punch he has to stall rushes early on and you're seeing
01:05:50the growth like it's truly a night and day difference in the way that he played
01:05:54from last year to this year one blackie for the offensive line does need to
01:05:57improve but I want to give Darien Lowe a shout out Michael Jordan didn't allow a
01:06:00sack but I mean like that offensive line really kudos to them for the growth that
01:06:04they've shown hasn't been easy they have a lot of guys in there who no one would
01:06:08have thought was a starter even going back into like the late part of the
01:06:11summer when it looked like they kind of had the rotation pretty set but you know
01:06:14hats off to those guys especially especially a boy the Darien man he's
01:06:18having a really really good season he was phenomenal he was a punching bag
01:06:21last year for this team Darien Lowe yeah as far as as fans calling a Darien
01:06:24blow and why does it like this guy stinks and and he wasn't good on the
01:06:27right side to be fair but he has really smithed himself as at least for this
01:06:31season the best left tackle they had and someone who can play pretty well and if
01:06:34they go in with him penciled in as a starter and they do draft a rookie high
01:06:37that is the big caveat like if you can sign it like Ronnie Stanley obviously
01:06:41you do it if you can draft the guy you do but I would not be upset with the
01:06:44Darien Lowe as a guy that you careful what you're about to say careful I just
01:06:52I just careful after you also invest heavily in the spot by a racer but like
01:07:00the very lows under contract next season and like I don't think the way he's
01:07:04playing he deserves to be someone you at least say hey he continues to grow in
01:07:07the bridge exactly exactly that's I like swing tackles guys who can jump in
01:07:13there and play and do different things that you need more you need more than
01:07:16one guy on your roster having someone who you actually feel okay about is
01:07:20great and again in the same vein as a Christian Gonzalez what's the best thing
01:07:24that you can say about a left tackle in a game I don't remember hearing his name
01:07:28exactly and and that's what it was with the Darien Lowe I did not if I didn't
01:07:33know based on following you know the pregame reports and who was active and
01:07:38not active I would not have known he played today which is a great thing
01:07:41because Jacobs actually I don't remember there was no issue it's I it was it was
01:07:49shocking that the the line I easily its best game I mean again people will dig
01:07:55into you know the the the the the analytics after but you're right it
01:08:02wasn't easily the best game of the year easily yeah and we've been Brown did
01:08:06struggle more than he has in the past and yeah it's some point locking wasn't
01:08:09great either like we said that'll be something that'll become blaring over
01:08:12the next couple days but again it's it's not it's turned into this offensive line
01:08:16is completely atrocious can't do anything to help their quarterback to
01:08:18okay it's actually serviceable and Chico Bruce that's able to go down and win a
01:08:22game with a minute 40 left something we did not would not have happened in week
01:08:26two or three of this let me ask you this now how much how much and again you
01:08:29never know right there's always the you know the people who will say and I agree
01:08:33with this largely sack is a quarterback stat and it is in many cases and a
01:08:37quarterback can elevate the play of his own line and over the last couple of
01:08:40weeks granted again pressure rate still seems a little bit higher than you would
01:08:44like it in the Houston game was a difficult one but relative to what all
01:08:47other passers had done against the Texans the the performance that the
01:08:51Patriots both Lionhead and Drake may had in that game was not awful and last
01:08:55week I didn't think was very what was was trending in the right direction as
01:08:59well how much of the play got better on its own or how much was benefited by
01:09:03having a quarterback in there that allowed them that put less pressure on
01:09:07the line itself where you know the the fact that he's mobile the fact that he
01:09:11bailed them out and extended some plays so you're not in these three and out
01:09:14situations how much do you think that helped them kind of raise up their level
01:09:18a little bit not always feel like oh man I just killed another drive it I
01:09:22really don't know because it is strange to think that this group of guys many of
01:09:26whom are still were penciled in as number twos and even threes entering the
01:09:31year yeah yeah replacement level are playing and could play a game like this
01:09:34I know I would have never seen it coming I mean it's definitely a bit of both
01:09:38like Drake may has done a much better job getting the ball out quickly and
01:09:41using his athleticism but we're also saying plenty of times where Drake may
01:09:45pocket unbothered yeah and I think this week was really where you saw how far
01:09:50they've come because your Kobe was sitting back there chillin a lot of the
01:09:53time like obviously he had to use his legs at times as well but it's not gonna
01:09:56be perfect you're going up against Quinn and Williams will McDonald I think one
01:09:58of the NFL sack leaders and his son reddick I don't know how he played so I
01:10:01don't really want to throw him out there necessarily who knows how he even looked
01:10:04or how many have to worry about you got exactly on the on the gameplay but like
01:10:07two of the NFL's most productive pass rushers were on that defensive line and
01:10:11again there were times where Jacoby percent looked very comfortable in that
01:10:14pocket obviously like we always have to take with a grain of salt because
01:10:17there's one guy on the offensive line right now who we thought was going to be
01:10:21a starter heading in like obviously Darian low at some point we figured out
01:10:24he's probably going to be the starter but going into the season yeah like
01:10:27going into the summer before we saw anything Mike and when it was the only
01:10:30guy that we thought was going to be a starter so all those things considered
01:10:34you know it's not gonna be perfect the pressure it's probably gonna be around
01:10:36like 35 maybe 39% something like that but still I think I was shocked at how
01:10:41many times I'm like oh okay he's Jacoby's like scanning the field isn't
01:10:45really scared of anybody in his face I think so and I think too when when
01:10:49Jacoby was in there for the first couple weeks his internal clock it starts to
01:10:52speed up a little bit where he kind of runs into his own mistakes and that's
01:10:55where you said John sacks are a quarterback sack where you know he sped
01:10:58up a little because the line starts to struggle then Drake may comes in the
01:11:02athleticism is there so he makes plays Jacoby comes in fresh right he hasn't
01:11:06played in a couple weeks so he's not playing scared is not the right word I
01:11:09don't mean after the game I was like did being on the bench like help you at all
01:11:14I'd like to find a way to use that in the sound condescending yeah bro you
01:11:17weren't getting clobbered for like three weeks in a row yeah your mind resets a
01:11:21little bit you're able to sit back there a little bit more confidently you forget
01:11:24what it's like to have you know people jumping down your throat running at you
01:11:28from all angles all the time and so I think it's a little bit of both the line
01:11:31making incremental changes incremental strides and then just the quarterback
01:11:35play with me and then Berset coming in with fresh legs too yeah there's it's so
01:11:40ironic that after and we'll wrap it here it's so ironic that after a game in
01:11:45which you lose Drake may which appeared to be the only arrow pointing up for
01:11:49this team to have so many things that you actually feel pretty good about
01:11:53heading into you know next week and beyond as we've gone over here with the
01:11:59the the run defense the play of the cornerbacks and the improved play of the
01:12:03offensive line all of a sudden like all of these things that you felt horrible
01:12:08about maybe even 12 hours ago are trending up and that feels great how
01:12:13much of that has to do with the the mess that is the Jets on the other side we
01:12:17will see but again it's a certainly winnable game next week in Tennessee so
01:12:21you know they could continue there regardless of who is playing quarterback
01:12:24we will see other than that we thank Mike Kadlik and Taylor Kyles for braving
01:12:30the cold what is it guys 50 you guys gonna be all right he's 7 right now oh
