00:00What's going on everyone, welcome back into another live edition of the Patriots Beat
00:28Podcast here on the CLNS Media Network presented by our wonderful friends over at Game Time
00:34and Prize Picks. It's Brian Hines back as always with Alex Barth. Day two of the Senior
00:39Bowl practices are in the books. We will break down that. Some winners and losers touch on
00:45all positions as we did yesterday. But we will start with just a little bit of Patriots
00:50news that came out throughout the day. Not too much to add to it but after the Mike Pellegrino
00:55and Brian Belichick departure yesterday, the Patriots are expected to hire Bills. He
01:01coached their nickel corners, senior defensive assistant Scott Booker. So we don't have his
01:06exact title yet but they are adding another defensive back coach to the staff and again
01:11Scott Booker. So we'll probably, you know, Rables down there at the Senior Bowl this
01:16week. They'll come back after the game on Saturday or sometime over the next few days.
01:21And I'd imagine where we'll get a finalized staff. We'll get all these guys official titles
01:25and maybe there are a few surprises like last year in general assistant roles or analysts
01:31or something like that. So when we get all the information again, hopefully next week
01:35we will run through the whole staff on a show. But we just wanted to start off there that
01:39they are adding another defensive backs coach to the staff there in Scott Booker from the
01:45Bills. So that was the just a little bit of news that broke today but we will get right
01:51into the Senior Bowl and right into the good stuff again day two of practices. Both teams
01:57felt a little more physical and intense out there. We're from watching through TV at least
02:02but we will start as we did yesterday with the offensive lineman and those tackles which
02:08are kind of the big draw for the Patriots specifically and you know, they have two of
02:12the higher projected prospects there with Ariante Eristre and Josh Connerly interesting
02:18switch today. Elliot Wolf must have put the phone call in and had him cross train, right?
02:22They had some of those guys at right tackle some of the right tackles at left tackles.
02:27So we saw some of that switch. What did you see from those guys at the tackle spot there
02:33today on day two? Look, I think and it's it's a good point about Elliot Wolf. I think this
02:39setting is very different. I know I've been anti-tackle switching size, but I think in
02:43this setting which is literally a showcase like yeah showcase which guys right teams
02:47want to see that it does make a lot of sense. That being said I most guys struggled with
02:51it which shows you how it's not that easy. Connerly definitely did. There's that clip
02:55going around of my green kind of flattening him. Although green also took himself out
02:59of the place. So I don't think that's as dominant to win as some people are maybe making it.
03:04I'm not super worried about Josh Connerly like okay. He's maybe not a great left tackle.
03:11He should not be playing left tackle if he's here. That would be a mistake like you're
03:14drafting him to be your left tackle right same with Ariante nursery. That being said
03:18there were a couple guys that I think did show up well in those cross training drills
03:22which helps. We had talked on Monday Brian about Anthony Belton being a guy we hope to
03:27see in that situation. I thought he might have had the best day of any lineman certainly
03:31on the on the national team and he's worked at guard as well. So he's looking like a tremendously
03:36versatile player. He's pretty high on on my board right now relative to maybe where he
03:42is on the consensus. I really like what I've seen from him. Ozzie Tropeo from from BC is
03:46another guy who is still probably a right tackle in the NFL primarily but didn't look
03:52out of place on the left side. So that's a thing where he looked better at right today
03:56too which you know naturally that would make sense but he definitely looked better today.
04:00So that's a guy we're like you know where you're taking him. It's a little bit later
04:04probably more of a depth player and okay he can play both tackle spots. That's encouraging.
04:09So I like that out of him but I'm trying to think like when Connelly was at left he
04:15got beat once but I thought he was solid. I thought Ursary again on the left side was
04:21fine. None of these other tackles I guess the one guy we talked about him yesterday
04:26is Carson Vinson who's been good. He continues to to to put up some impressive stuff. None
04:33of the other tackles have really popped to me or certainly didn't today besides those
04:38guys but I think I've still I've still seen what I wanted to see from Connelly and Ursary
04:43this week. I haven't had anything where I was like oh that worries me other than again
04:47all right they're not right tackles and I mean I mean some people do think Ursary in
04:53the NFL will be a right tackle. So where do you think like he would fit ideally and like
05:00a Josh McDaniels offense because you know they usually have those big kind of maulers
05:05on the right side of the line right so without you but he also has that athleticism like
05:11he and I this is a lofty I don't know that this is my outright comp for him but he is
05:17kind of that Trent Brown prototype reason more athletic for his size and Trent Brown
05:22obviously played both sides here so and like Ursary if you work with him could get to right
05:29tackle but you're drafting him at left initially maybe he moves over there nothing can't get
05:32over there eventually but I'm just not super worried that like neither one is ready at
05:38right tackle right now Ursary yeah it Connelly's the left tackle period like he shouldn't be
05:44playing over there Ursary if you told me they draft him at left tackle in a couple years
05:48maybe the situation arises where it makes more sense for him to play on the right side
05:53I could definitely see it going down that path but I think that's more a thing where
05:57like you have time to prepare for that whereas they're not gonna play they shouldn't be playing
06:02him at right tackle as a rookie if they draft him you're drafting him to be your left tackle
06:08yep yeah that's I think you should he deserves the chance to start at left tackle and you'll
06:13see what happens there if he can make it work and stick at left tackle or you know maybe
06:17next year you're looking at a switch to the right side but yeah Belton you mentioned to
06:22really another good day where do you think his stock you mentioned that you're kind of
06:28higher than maybe consensus where do you think his stock kind of is right now like is he
06:32creeping into the back half a day to like maybe where Caden Wallace and those guys went
06:37off the board last year like that was earlier third round but you know still back half a
06:42day to well those guys are also last year was a the class was different you had that
06:47run like all those guys went ahead of where they were projected because of the run of
06:50tackles but if they took I mean I have to see at the beginning the draft went but like
06:54in theory if they took Anthony Belton at 77 I could see it if they had the right draft
07:00in front of it I don't think that would be a bad pick like I don't want to afford to
07:04me would be the sweet spot but after a really good week and he's probably a guy that's going
07:08to test well to combine I do think he can sneak into the top 100 he's already sort of
07:13there but I don't mind them at any point the draft really reaching for a tackle last year
07:21they did the opposite they were so steadfast and we won't trade up for these guys because
07:25that's not where we value them and you have to adjust when players start going and there's
07:29a run and they didn't so you know if tackles are going and all that I could see him sneaking
07:33maybe into the back end of the second round or day two sorry I don't think he'll get up
07:38into the second round of back into day two but it's going to be interesting to see kind
07:42of how he's talked about he has another strong day tomorrow he's going to be one of the better
07:46tackles coming out of this week and that usually bodes well for guys yeah I just think with
07:51the premium on the position and then the versatility he's shown where left and right and even if
07:56you want to kick him inside the guard you know you had a few reps yesterday a guard
08:00and he held his own like those type of guys I could see rising up the board so maybe you
08:04are you know 68 77 there in the third round like that could be a sweet spot for Anthony
08:09Belton but any of those you know speaking of guards interior I mean another great day
08:15for Greg Zabel like he's the best offensive lineman there but any other of those interior
08:20guys that caught your eye maybe later down or it's more likely the Patriots could could
08:25pick a guard out out there in that range the one guy who's the guy from um Jack State
08:33Oh Stonewall and guys it's like a short name again I had the I had the guy from Sac State
08:41Jackson Slater he's been he's been good I think he's like a true center though right
08:46or is he a guard I think he I want to say he was listed as a tackle but he's been playing
08:52guard and center for some reason are you thinking of a web from yes I think I forget
08:58his first name I think it's web clay web clay web yeah he's been good especially he's somebody
09:05who's done a good job handling there's somebody's like oversized right tackles defensive tackles
09:11and you want to see how the smaller guys can they play above their weight and that's it
09:15left guard with Josh McDaniels like that's what you want to see a guy that can pass protect
09:19but can play above his weight in a run game when he needs to and so far Jack Webb's done
09:23that this week I think he's done a nice job of this um and he's probably a day three guy
09:27so I don't really want them going guard above day three like they've done enough and I know
09:33they don't have a clear answer they have too many other needs like at this point you kind
09:36of have to figure it out with Cole Strange and in city so um and Lane Robinson and me
09:43like if you want to add another day three guy fine so I think those are the guys you're
09:46kind of looking for like Gray's Abel's been outstanding they should not be taking a guard
09:50where Gray's Abel's gonna go unless they frickin kill free I mean right unless they somehow
09:57right yeah we'll see like it wouldn't even just be for agency there'd have to be trades
10:02and this and that but I was looking at I just pulled up Jackson Slater his PFFs to see his
10:07snaps he is a guard he played majority of his college career at left guard he's been
10:12working at right guard and center though uh at the senior bowl except so his sophomore
10:18season at Sac State he was a left guard but in week 14 he played 85 snaps at left tackle
10:25and whatever the hell happened week 15 he played 114 snaps at left tackle one week so
10:31he's got two games of left tackle experience but it was 200 snaps in two games so I don't
10:36know what went down uh in those games but yeah he he is a guard uh interior player at
10:41the next level but he's had uh an impressive few days and the uh UNC Center to Willie Lampkin
10:46like another undersized guy like 5'10 but he's been able to handle some of those bigger
10:51interior rushers he hit one guy with the iris and step over today after one of his one-on-one
10:56reps saw that uh so he's been impressive and maybe if they are in the center market later
11:01rounds at someone uh who peaks their interest there Willie Lampkin from UNC but uh that's
11:07the offensive line uh we'll stick on offense go to wide receivers any wide receivers today
11:13that uh had you standing up out of your chair or you know catch your eye well so we talked
11:20yesterday about I was like paranoid that I invented Kyle Williams in my mind and nobody
11:26was talking about him and what was I missing so every time I see him line up for one-on-one
11:30I'm like all right here we go Kyle Williams boom ESPN cuts away what the hell like not
11:35helping but then I saw Taylor got a really good video um I saw some other people put
11:39videos out so he he was doing a great job of creating separation today he really was
11:44um I thought he had a really strong day I thought Xavier Restrepo was solid again had
11:48a good double move in one-on-ones um Jaden Higgins right from Iowa State is really intriguing
11:56if they want like a big slot to Jacoby Myers kind of guy and then look Tez Johnson was
12:00good again and Tez John's gonna be an interesting one to talk about he's another one of these
12:05players that good player I don't think he makes sense for the Patriots I don't see how
12:09they justify that pick but we're talking about what players had a good day he had a hell
12:13of a day again yeah he has been really good the last two days but we talked about him
12:17yesterday like 100 what we say 156 pounds he measured in at like there's some shorter
12:24Taekwon vibes and now he can separate unlike Taekwon but just the wiry frame and like just
12:32another one of those inside guys like I'm kind of good on the test I so we made the
12:39joke about Taekwon yesterday I think and I've made it a few times like I to be fair like
12:43he definitely has more wiggle he's more agile than Taekwon it's more of a size thing he
12:48looks more like a wide like an actual wide receiver than Taekwon right really but he's
12:52still like he's not gonna be able to handle volume role in the NFL if you draft him you're
12:57replacing pop Douglas and if you told me you could get him like in the fifth round
13:02and you know you're gonna have competition for pop and can't like fine fine he's gonna
13:07end up being top 50 pick and they need to be adding not replacing in the top 50 so I
13:12just don't see you need to have an immediate impact plan for guys you take that high I
13:17don't know what the immediate impact plan is for him here and there's just and people
13:22will say well that was you know the problem with um lad mcconkey was they thought lad
13:27mcconkey was redundant and so they didn't draft him they thought he was redundant to
13:31pop one he wasn't redundant pop so they blew the evaluation two it's not even necessarily
13:37about well you know you're not drafting tez johnson because you have pop douglas so you
13:43have to take another receiver what about an offensive tackle what about a corner what
13:49about a tight end right like it's there's they have so many needs it just doesn't you're
13:57talking about a guy that's going to be a gadget player your third wide receivers good third
14:02wide receiver but a guy's gonna be your third wide receiver gadget player um this isn't
14:06tez johnson is not going to be your julian edelman he's not built for that workload he's
14:11not gonna be able to do it and he's not next you're not gonna be able to play him at the
14:13x so he's gonna be that z gadgety sort of player and they have that they have two of
14:19those guys really if you want to talk about marcus jones so if you're drafting him and
14:23if your immediate impact plan is fine he's so much better than pop i want to draft him
14:27fine pop douglas is what top five player on a team probably and so you're you're so focused
14:36on replacing him that you're not addressing anything else we're talking about top 50 pick
14:40here like you need to be adding they don't have any edge rushers they don't have a free
14:46safety they don't have an x receiver they don't have a second corner besides gonzalez
14:53you need to add to the roster before you start upgrading guys and i don't think that's saying
14:57like pop douglas is irreplaceable because i i think ultimately in the long run you hope
15:03you do upgrade pop douglas we've kind of used the danny emendola and then you find your
15:07julian edelman i think excuse me watching the the bills you know they have khalil shakir
15:14i think like a ideal role for pop douglas is kind of like curtis samuel right like he
15:19comes in he had a huge play in the denver playoff game he makes a spark he had a touchdown
15:25and one of the last two games like he's still a good player and a part of the team right
15:29like ultimately i think in the long run you want to upgrade that piece but right now when
15:34you have so many places to upgrade is that the one thing you really want to look in on
15:38upgrading i don't know and it's going to be the same role for tez johnson so again
15:44i don't think pop is the starting slot receiver i just i don't think he can handle the volume
15:48if he was then yeah you draft tez johnson b to z and pops in the slot and there you
15:52go but pop's not your your volume slot guy tez johnson's not your volume slot guy i just
16:00don't think tez johnson fixes things to the degree that you know the they probably have
16:08taken what they have like 66 is that what it is 69 68 if he's even there i don't think
16:14he helps you to the degree that a player you're taking with that pick should help you the
16:17way this team is built specifically you'd lean like a restrepo then over i think restrepo
16:25makes much more of an impact on this team if josh mcdowell is going to run the offense
16:28the way we think he's going to run it then tez johnson would yep um i don't know i haven't
16:33been that blown away by restrepo the last uh two days he's had some good moments some
16:38bad like he i think some people thought he was going to come in here and do like what
16:41lad mcconkie did last year and just dominate every single rep he's not as good as lad mcconkie
16:46so that hasn't happened but still like you go back and watch him at miami like he he's
16:51a hell of a player i'm still a fan of him but uh that slot kind of role jalen dole from
16:58iowa state jayden higgins teammate uh yeah he's been really good big fan of jaylen dole
17:03he's been unguardable and one-on-ones and i think he's got more lawn speed than restrepo
17:08and you even watch him at iowa state like he had i think they said today on the broadcast
17:13he had the most or tied for the most 50 plus yard touchdowns in college football this year
17:17so he's got some of that more vertical speed than restrepo so i'm a big fan uh of jaylen
17:23dole in that role jayden higgins as you mentioned his teammate uh had a really good day he's
17:27got the size do you think he's a big slot at the next level i know i know you quickly
17:31said that but do you think that's kind of his best role he is 6-4 so he's got the size
17:36to hang on the outside but do you think he's got the physicality to kind of do that i've
17:41been more impressed with him on the outside i don't think he's a full-time x i think he's
17:44a guy that can rep out there if you need he's probably best as a big slot but i think he
17:48has some versatility which i wasn't expecting as much from the outs from him on the outside
17:52as we've seen yep now there there's a guy that gives you something you don't have size
17:57and physicality at the wide receiver position definitely he's an interesting player but
18:01he's he could be getting up to like early day two like somewhere in the second round
18:08um based off how some people are talking you know if they take a receiver there people
18:11are just instantly going to write him off oh yeah absolutely uh and the last one someone
18:16mentioned uh jaylen royals too he's had two really good days did you see his first one-on-one
18:23route today jaylen royals remind me i know i did i can't he comes off the line and he
18:29just like bull rushes the corner over and then has a nice route i gasped that i was
18:36it was so unexpected uh but he had he's really good off the line of scrimmage in his release
18:41package and explosive player i think he said he's not even a hundred percent yet with that
18:46injury he suffered to end the year so he's really good jaylen royals uh i like watching
18:51him but uh anything else on on receivers or you can kind of move on um uh beck uh beck
18:58what's this jack back yeah nice contested catch i've been impressed with him uh definitely
19:05some jake bobo vibes just a guy that is so dominant at the catch point i don't think
19:09he's like an elite athlete at wide receiver but he can win he can win down the field he
19:16can win through contact he can kind of use his size to box out the shorter parts of the
19:20field as well they had a rough track record with these kinds of players so i you know
19:25i'm hesitant to tap him as a patriot's fit if they get a new wide receivers coach maybe
19:29but just like objectively he looks like a good player yep he's had two two impressive
19:36days and he can move pretty well for that size but um we'll see what's in store for
19:42him so uh i want to touch on some other past catchers at other positions but very quickly
19:47before we do that i also want to touch on prize picks where you just pick more and less
19:51on at least two players for a shot to win up to 1 000 times your cash in the playoff
19:55season is winding down the big game is coming up so don't miss out on the last week of football
20:01action with prize picks where again you can win up to 1 000 times your money and you can
20:05do so by doing the prize picks big game free pick patrick mahomes has a projection discount
20:11just needs a one passing yard he needs to get more than half a passing yard i think
20:16patrick air yard that might be tough that is very true screen god patrick mahomes but
20:22i i think you can do one pass yard xavier worthy can figure out you know make some guys
20:27miss so you can pair that with xavier worthy more than 56 and a half receiving yards maybe
20:31travis kelsey more than 62 and a half receiving yards or if your team philly saquon barkley
20:36leading the way more than 112 and a half passing yards on prize picks put any of those guys
20:42in your player projection lineup so download the prize picks app today and use code clns
20:48to get fifty dollars instantly after you play your first five dollar lineup again that's
20:52code clns to get fifty dollars instantly after you play your first five dollar lineup you
20:58don't even have to win on prize picks run your game all right uh a few other pass catchers
21:06uh well we can start with tight ends and then we'll get into running backs um another good
21:10day for elijah arroyo miami's tight end uh what'd you see from him and anyone else out
21:16of that group catch your eye yeah this guy's awesome like you look at a lot of his big
21:20plays at miami and it's just more attention being paid to restrepo or teams trying to
21:26you know spy or blitz cam warden the big question for me coming in is like when it's when it's
21:31focused on him right with the one-on-ones he's a guy i think usually we sort of throw
21:35out one-on-ones advantage offense always but i'm like all right let's see like how we can
21:39really separate with the guy across him he's been excellent um he's a little smaller he's
21:44not really there as a blocker yet but as a developmental now he may end up going above
21:51where you take a developmental tight end but he's been great he's been excellent um i also
21:55think uh jake ferguson from oregon has been really good although we both agreed his his
22:01great diving catcher who was probably offensive pass interference but even beside that he
22:06had a great day i i think he's been really good so i did see another angle where he might
22:09have been getting held on the back so maybe it was doing maybe a little hand fighting
22:12maybe just like okay all right uh either way even without that catch i think he had a he
22:18had a good day and he's like you want a guy that's just like physically dominant at the
22:22position right size strength athleticism like he is your you like prototypical like the
22:30boxes you're checking on a traditional tight end um i think he has that in spades so i
22:36he's projecting a little later he's a little bit older um doesn't have as much of a ceiling
22:39but that's a guy i could totally see as a fit for the patriots um i thought it was interesting
22:44the broadcast compared gavin barth bartholomew to jason whitton that felt like a little bit
22:49of a stretch um i missed that one that is they said gavin if i heard it correctly that
22:55gavin bartholomew is a jason whitton starter kit for an nfl team jason whitton starter
23:03kit which i assume means they're like he has the tools he has the potential but you got to coach
23:08him into that that's interesting that's pretty high phrase um still not seeing much from harold
23:14fannin which was a little disappointing that especially from a guy who you know he's at
23:18bowling green so right you read more into that when he comes to one of these all-star games and
23:24he doesn't look as impressive like that that's interesting that that was still like with josh
23:30especially i think we we said yesterday like carol fannin is one of those scheme touch players
23:34maybe a little bit more so i don't know what the fit was there but yeah he has been pretty quiet
23:39arroyo and ferguson were my two big guys uh at the tight end position there they've been having
23:45a good couple days there in that group so um running backs not much room on the ground in
23:52any of these practices some guys are making uh more of an impact uh as a pass catcher definitely
23:58donovan edwards from michigan is leading that charge he's had uh two really good days in one-on-ones
24:04against linebackers as a pass catcher um but who have you liked uh in the backfield uh i've i've
24:11liked donovan edwards um he's done a good job catching football devon neal has looked good i
24:16think he's had a good couple days it's the best run today probably yeah uh i'm still high on ollie
24:20gordon i just again seeing him out there there's a ton of potential um quinn allen had a nice catch
24:28today as well like i've talked about a few times so these are guys are going to see more in the
24:32game obviously like you said not a ton of opportunities to run the football but edwards
24:37i mean i've seen some people wondering if like edwards is a slot receiver i kind of hate that
24:41because he is a really good runner and i think you're limiting yourself i do like there is a
24:47role for him where you can go to person like two running back personnel and put him in the slot at
24:51times but i wouldn't like draft him as a receiver i'd keep him as a running back and just give him
24:55a significant receiving role uh but he's definitely like it's it's been impressive do you know off the
25:01top of your head maybe not like did him and blake corham ever share the field for michigan last year
25:07yeah but not like that yeah they were i mean maybe maybe a handful of times but that was
25:12more just it was michigan's power packages power power pony stuff like that yeah not as a past i
25:19mean i'm sure he's split out wide at times i'm sure he's done it but i don't think that's not
25:25really michigan's m up especially with j.j mccarthy back then right but um uh yeah edwards devon neal
25:32uh i still like rj harvey ucf he had a couple nice nice routes today but it is right now it's
25:39more of a feel for those you know stop start quick pass catcher guys hopefully in the game
25:44we get a little bit more of that downhill run game we can see like an ollie gordon really get to you
25:49know get low get it get under his pads uh and stuff like that so like damien martin is a guy
25:55super excited to see this yeah and i mean it hasn't been a setting where he would be a factor
26:00quite yet definitely but um anything on on quarterbacks to end offense it's been a rough
26:08two days it's been bad we're not getting that late riser that i spent you know two three weeks
26:13hyping up you could argue that dylan gabriel's rough uh milrose erratic he's probably been the
26:21best one i would say aside from milrow you could argue el gershman's right there with all of them
26:27like he doesn't look out of place and that i think that says more about the rest of the
26:31quarterbacks than it does him um but it has been like tyler shock has been all over the place i
26:39think one-on-ones jackson dart has probably been the best uh that makes sense because all the old
26:44missus right it's just running a straight line i'll throw you the football it's just pick your
26:50target one-on-one and i'll find you so that makes sense jackson dart plays well uh in that setting
26:56but yeah it's been rough for the quarterbacks especially when they're under center like the
26:59amount of footballs that have hit the ground uh it like go back to the first few preseason games
27:05for drake may right where he was really under center for the first time like that's kind of
27:09the vibe some of these guys are giving off so it's yeah you're not you're not getting one of
27:15those risers that you might have hoped that could influence the trade down value of a pick right now
27:20i do wonder if it means anything for joe milton's trade value some of these teams are maybe
27:24reconsidering their plans a quarterback rank joe milton's senior ball performance against these
27:30him doing what he did last year is light years ahead of what these guys are doing no like
27:36actually if and none of i'm not talking about teams like the raiders at six right aren't
27:40rethinking because of this but there's a team that's it's you know year away the saints um
27:45maybe the titans if they go abdul carter at one right uh who else the jets if aaron rogers will
27:50let them at a quarterback teams like that that that thing where if you're trying to do the jalen
27:56hurts thing we're all right we're gonna use a day to pick on a quarterback and you know either he
28:01is the guy and then wow we got him for value or he's not and we'll suck and then we get to pick
28:05up top of the draft and get our guy the team's looking for that player is that player here
28:11may maybe not if there is there's like how many of them would there be i know who am i missing that
28:18that's not one of the top guys but not at the senior ball i know i mean will howard will howard
28:23was supposed to be there but he bailed because you know he was just in the national championship
28:26game so maybe will howard's that guy maybe quinn yours is that guy i don't think quinn yours is so
28:32now it's like that's all right if it is quinn yours right so now it's like do we want to take
28:38quinn yours in the third round or would we rather trade a fourth round pick for joe milton right do
28:43we want to take jalen milrow at the back end of the first top of the second would we rather trade
28:47a third round pick for joe milton like i don't know that that's going to happen but if you're
28:53shopping a quarterback the senior bowl is what you want to see well i've heard glowing reviews
28:59from uh kyle mccord's performance at the shrine bowl this past week so maybe it's i've heard a
29:05lot of glowing reviews about kyle mccord over the years but just go back watch his ohio state film
29:11and that'll shut down any uh and put the lights on and then see what he looks like no offense
29:17on yeah um i i still think someone's gonna take a shot at like jalen milrow at the top of the uh
29:25the second round just because the tools right the athleticism but it has not been a good it
29:30has not been a good week uh for any of those guys so uh maybe they have a good day tomorrow and and
29:36the game brings better luck but it's it's not trending in a good direction but uh let's hop
29:41over to the defensive side of the ball very quickly before we do that i also want to tell
29:45you guys about game time the best place to get tickets for anything you want to see we love uh
29:52you know football is almost over but we love going to hockey basketball games celtics bruins red
29:59socks will be starting soon pitchers and catchers uh and spring training report right around the
30:04corner and we get all of our tickets with game time they have a new feature called game time
30:09picks that makes getting tickets to see your favorite teams play live even easier because
30:13they filter out the fluff to show you only incredible deals on great seats so you don't
30:17have to waste time searching through thousands of tickets the celtics just tipped off i think a
30:21couple minutes ago you can still go to game time after the game starts to get tickets to that game
30:26if you're up in boston or if you want to go to jets at bruins at the garden tomorrow uh log on
30:32the game time 48 is the cheapest get in or you can use that game time pick super deal move right
30:38behind the bruins bench 117 you can heckle them and tell them to play better because they deserve
30:44it in the process so make sure you head to game time for their lowest price guaranteed and other
30:49in-app features such as seat views all in pricing and of course game time picks which makes it even
30:54easier to save more on your sports tickets or any other tickets you're looking for such as concerts
31:00comedy theater anything at all and take the guesswork out of buying all those tickets
31:04with game time download the app create an account and use code clns for twenty dollars
31:09off your first purchase terms apply again create an account in redeem code clns for twenty dollars
31:15off download game time today what time is it game time game time all right back to the trenches on
31:21the defensive side of the football um people are yelling at you about deon walker in the chat he
31:28was a little bit better today then he left with an injury a couple guys left uh with injuries today
31:33which was unfortunate uh walter nolan uh from old miss who i really like uh princely old miss
31:38edge rusher he left early all the old miss guys were trading yeah i don't know what's going on
31:44with lane kiffin showed up and they all left early with injuries coincidence but um get your guy mike
31:50cadley seriously jackson dart too hoodie dart today we went and did not help him but um what
31:58do you see from the uh defensive trenches maybe start with the interior then we'll get to the edge
32:02guys yeah so on walker let me be clear i what i was talking about was the physical tools and i
32:09think what you've seen from deon walker is exactly who he is as a prospect and why he's like a high
32:14second round pick the ceiling's immense because he's big when he lines it up right he's powerful
32:20he's quick he has the athleticism all of that but he doesn't use all those tools consistently he
32:25comes in too high um he can get you know his power taken out of him sometimes by by more stout
32:32offensive linemen things like that you're drafting this guy's a project this is why he's a second
32:36round pick and not a first round pick now mike rabel and and troy williams have a tremendous
32:42history developing defensive linemen and that's the draw here deon walker is not ready to be an
32:48impact player day one and you're seeing that at the senior bowl but you're also seeing the
32:51incredible tools so that's what excites me about him it's the potential i thought he was better
32:55today like you said but you still sort of see those ups and downs the fact he was better and
32:59he was better specifically i think with some of the leverage stuff tells me he's taking the
33:03coaching well which is encouraging he's also only 20 years old like he's got a ton of time to get
33:06better the guy i'm really impressed with again you do the tears right mason graham deon walker
33:12the day three guy in that kind of mold is cam jackson who was really good again today in his
33:20not just quickness but subtleness and his size the way he can shuffle his feet the way he can use his
33:25hands subtly to to like he has a good first step right he gets off and and it can be maybe it's not
33:31a decisive win but he can get off and get a slight advantage with the get off and then use that next
33:37move whether it's hands or his feet to turn that into a decisive win usually don't see that from
33:42guys that size so i've really liked what i've seen from him and he's another guy that came in
33:47a little lower projection because yes he was at florida last year but he spent most of his career
33:52memphis you know how's he going to look against these powerful guys and he's been really good
33:56he's probably been nolan's up there walter nolan's been outstanding but he's a different
34:01sort of player like the true potential nose players i think cam jackson's been the best guy there
34:07yeah he has been impressive and another like late round guy who i thought's been good
34:12darius alexander out of toledo i just pulled up the consensus mock he's at 185 right now so he is
34:19uh darius alexander from toledo so if that's if you really go elsewhere early on and you want one
34:27of those later like there's a ton of depth there with these you know interior defenders on both
34:32teams american and national so that's a guy darius alexander who late has been uh impressive
34:37especially as a pass rusher uh the last two days but back to walker like it's just the pad level
34:44like he gets way too high which he's six seven right that's gonna happen so if you trust torel
34:49williams and mike frabel to teach that out of them and play low then you see like in teams back-to-back
34:54plays would be a tackle for lost run stuff and then he gets to the quarterback would have been
34:59maybe a sack definitely a pressure like you see the flashes so you just have to trust that the
35:04coaching is going to get that out of them but again like he's six seven and it's the pad level so
35:09just just it's a question mark and that and that's the risk so um to the edge who'd you
35:15like from the edge mike green you know we talked about that rep first josh connerly he was very
35:20good even beyond that even in team drills as well um but who else who else caught your eye on the
35:26outside of that defensive prince lee was good before he got hurt i thought as a rock who was
35:31better today i thought he had a better day i thought he took a step forward um all the old
35:38miss guys are really uh really impressive kyle canard was good too i thought kyle canard had a
35:42better day um and uh john joiner who didn't do much yesterday was a guy i was looking for from
35:47minnesota um another kind of one of these project players day three guy but i think he's showing
35:53that he's maybe a little more advanced than you would have thought coming in
35:57yep as a rock who and he had two good reps first connerly and ursery i think they were both on the
36:02right side um but he got really good ursery once when ursery was on the left side like it was a
36:08draw but it was you could you could give it to him if you wanted to give it to him he he is
36:12impressive him and canard i think we if we want to talk about this new style of page right in front
36:18like someone um said as a rock who reminds him of harold landry like a guy vrabel drafted early i
36:25pulled up the r the relative athletic scores landry was 6 2 2 52 coming out and as a rock who
36:32is 6 2 250 so pretty close pretty pretty similar body types as a rock who obviously has a lot
36:39longer length hand size are exactly pretty much exactly the same so i i could see the fit and
36:45he's been pretty impressive and canard too in that style of more of like an aggressive penetrating
36:52edge rusher if you're playing that that four down front under variable yeah i think if it's
36:58not abdul carter at the top those are both guys that are in the conversation at 38 i don't think
37:02either one maybe they sneak into the back end of the first round maybe i guess there are what
37:08three four five six seven five picks ahead of them in the second round maybe they go in there
37:13because they are those guys aren't going to play the run like those are pass rushers those are pure
37:17pass rush i thought josiah stewart in here too who had a good day yeah but those got like they're
37:23probably going to go day two because they are situational pass rushers but they're good
37:26situational pass rushers and they seem to fit one of those two will probably one of those two are
37:31like a jack sawyer is going to start like a second round run of edge defenders probably
37:36at the top so we're going to see like we saw with tackles last year from like
37:4035 to 65 it's going to be like half edge rushers yeah definitely and then we'll do
37:45the running backs in the third round and the tight ends will go somewhere in there probably as well
37:50but uh someone who's probably not on the patriots radar but just had another awesome day shemar
37:57stewart he's a beast he could be a top 15 20 pick um just all all the traits you want so he was he
38:05was very good again today but um back a level linebackers and anyone you uh catch your eye
38:12today from from that linebacker group still not a ton because they're just not doing the drills
38:17where like the linebackers are in focus um i'm blanking on the name of the guy from south carolina
38:24he just seems to be moving well in team drills um roster closed out hang on south carolina i'm blank
38:34um find it here um
38:41was he on american or demetrius night demetrius night oh yeah um like he moves well and at 247
38:49that's obviously great to see but i there haven't been a ton of opportunities where it's like
38:53linebackers and coverage and that's really what you want to see so we'll have to look more at them
38:58yep i had a auburn's eugene asante on there as well he just seems like he's just all over the
39:06place like he has been around a lot that is he's just around the ball a lot so that was another
39:11uh linebacker i i had to watch there but uh we can go back uh although eugene asante should
39:18probably be a defensive back in new england just eugene asante eugene asante yeah what's his side
39:26when i see that i just forget which one's his first name what's his size can he play like no
39:34your box safety type type thing but um yeah he just seems to have a lot of energy and he's just
39:40always around the ball like throwing himself into the fire so uh he's been kind of hard to miss uh
39:46out there with the linebacker group but uh take a step back to the cornerbacks uh and we we can
39:51do corner safeties dbs all in one and wrap this up um anyone uh specifically catch your eye and
39:59one-on-ones the the other thing with the quarter the quarterback struggling is like when they get
40:04into teams it feels like they're real rarely throwing the ball down the field so when you're
40:08watching on tv it's tough to get a feel for the corners and coverage a lot of the time so a lot
40:13of it feels like one-on-ones the stuff we're watching but anyone uh from the defensive back
40:20group uh that you liked today or or yesterday as a whole um i will say balal cone took a little bit
40:26of a step back today wasn't quite as good as he was yesterday i thought mac mcwilliams was really
40:30good uh from ucf now the patriots need to add size in the secondary they probably need more than one
40:38corner so he's maybe in play but he's 5 10 so there is that thing but boy is he a a vicious
40:44competitor i thought maxwell harrison from kentucky had a really good day today that's a guy
40:48that is more that true outside guy um yeah mac mcwilliams had that one great rep and then in the
40:55secondary i still like billy bowman i still think billy bowman is uh is making place i had uh mcmill
41:02mcwilliams definitely uh was on my list yeah um the other kind of similar mold like another smaller
41:08guy louisville's quincy riley uh really sticky and one-on-ones today good athlete but again it's
41:14just you know that smaller mold so maybe it will work against you know opposite christian
41:19gonzalez but how much size do they want there we'll have to wait and see but quincy riley
41:25uh i thought was very impressive today so out of louisville so we'll see what else he can do
41:29uh this week but um they cut away from special teams a lot but did you get any special teams
41:35takes you want to get a little bit that uh the punter from florida jeremy crenshaw is
41:41banging it i he he was hammering the ball now patriots don't need a punter so you can't really
41:45do anything with that um apparently ryan fitzgerald shanked a kick pretty bad just what i said so
41:51there is that i haven't was special teams i i know right i don't somebody probably told them i don't
41:58think any of these either these kickers or patriots fits just because they don't have the experience
42:02in the inclement weather um but shout out jeremy crenshaw kicking the crap out of the ball good
42:06for him i think patriots are set a punter but credit where credit's due i'll say special teams
42:11note baba ventron patriots legends oh i love it the energy he brings is fantastic unbelievable so
42:18they do the you know one-on-ones each team ends practice with one-on-ones pretty much for each
42:24positional group and baba ventron gets up there he's the head coach for the american team he does
42:30like a whole like kind of wrestling thing where he announces like from the university of whatever
42:35and does the does the player so he's been plenty of energy uh brought to that team uh assistant head
42:42coach and special teams coordinator for the browns he's head coach in the shrine uh the american team
42:47now so who knows maybe baba ventron future head coach in the nfl i will say this on the special
42:52teams they didn't mention um during the broadcast that they're going to do the college kickoff
42:56not the nfl kickoff on saturday so that's a little disappointing because you know some of these guys
43:01like dane jackson or really anybody like you're looking for is probably going to need to contribute
43:05on special teams you won't get to see him in that role because it feels like the dynamic kickoff is
43:10going to stay next year i think it was shefter had a tweet today yeah about how it was better
43:17like darren rizzy was someone who liked it so it seems like the dynamic kickoff is going to stay so
43:24um yeah it was nfl evp jeff miller said the new dynamic kickoff led to a 57 percent increase in
43:31returns positive sign the rule could stay and then shefter retweeted that and said darren rizzy was
43:36at the forefront of the new rule that the nfl believes it worked out this season so maybe the
43:40dynamic kickoff is here to stay but we won't see it in the senior bowl so um any notes we missed
43:49or we can wrap this one up uh i think that's pretty much it all right so two days down day
43:55three last day of practice is tomorrow we'll be back sometime to break that one down and then the
44:00game on saturday puts a bow on senior bowl week so make sure you guys are locked into patriots
