00:32All right, we're going to get into the game.
00:35But first, a few notes, Greg, from earlier today, Alex Van Pelt met with the media.
00:41The first note is Brian Hudson, practice squad center, took all the first team reps yesterday
00:48at practice.
00:49Should we just pretty much consider it a given that Hudson will start at center on Sunday
00:56and Nick Leverett is not going to go or is that too much to glean from that?
01:02Yeah, I think I think that's too much.
01:04I do think that he needs some recovery time.
01:06I do think that Leverett talked to reporters and indicated that he's going to be okay.
01:13And by the way, let me just tell the listeners, if I sound a little bit off today, I just
01:18got like three vaccines yesterday and I feel like a truck ran over me, so I feel a little
01:26bit hung over.
01:27So I'm battling, though I'm battling, you know, like Nick Leverett.
01:31I'm going to be out there on Sunday, ready to go.
01:33But I think Leverett's going to end up going.
01:37It's not unusual that on a Wednesday, maybe takes it takes a step back.
01:42Now, I would assume he'll ramp things up today and then it's all how does he feel on Friday?
01:48So that's normally how these things go.
01:50Yeah, I got the flu vaccine yesterday.
01:53I'm feeling OK.
01:54And I got COVID a couple of weeks ago, so I'm good for like six months with the COVID
01:58stuff.
01:59All right.
02:00Speaking of the offensive line, Greg, I found this interesting.
02:03Van Pelt said today that offensive line instability is not going to impact Drake Mays timeline.
02:10And I just I tweeted this out a little while ago at Nixie Radio.
02:14If you want to follow me, I tweeted this out.
02:17The messaging, Greg, you know, if you go back.
02:21So they've told us that May outplayed Brissette in camp.
02:26Then last week, everybody's talking about how May is lighting up practice.
02:30They feel like May is ready enough to take over for Jacoby if Jacoby got hurt on the
02:35first play this Sunday.
02:39And Jacoby obviously coming off of his worst game on Sunday against San Francisco.
02:46If it's not the offensive line, then why is May not playing?
02:50Like at first to start the season, I would say, well, because May is not as ready as
02:55Jacoby.
02:56But that's a tough argument to make after Sunday.
02:58Yeah, I you know, I hear you, Nick, and I don't want to get too specific on this because
03:06I don't want to, you know, reveal my sources or get anybody in trouble.
03:12But let me just say that, you know, digging around the team, I was told that May's not
03:21ready, that, you know, ideally he's not ready.
03:25There are some things and yes, I'm being intentionally vague.
03:31There are some things associated with the offense that he still is working through.
03:37So I don't think he's there.
03:39I mean, I think it was termed to me that similar to what Rappaport reported on the weekend,
03:45like, you know, I was told he's kind of a ways away.
03:49Of course, one more bad hit to Jacoby Brissett and he could be out there.
03:53And I think they're going to have to simplify things if he goes out there.
03:57And I, you know, I think it'll be fine.
03:58And I do think, you know, similar to what we talked about the other day, you know, Jacoby
04:07is not playing well.
04:08He's been playing worse by the week.
04:10Some of that could be the pressure.
04:12But you know, the film isn't going to lie.
04:14And you know, once you get two of these games back to back, that's why this game is so,
04:20so important.
04:21I mean, not only to Brissett, but Mayo and Van Pelt.
04:25To me, Nick, this, they have to win this game.
04:28If they don't win this game, it's going to be big trouble next week.
04:32And I do think you, so that would drop down to what one and four.
04:37You know, I've heard Tom Curran talk about, like, he thinks the timeline is like when
04:41they're six games under 500 or something like that.
04:45I don't necessarily disagree with that.
04:48I think it's more of a mid-season thing for May.
04:51But of course, you know, like we talked about, I mean, Brissett could not get up one of these
04:55times.
04:56And I'm sure he's dealing with a lot of stuff that we don't know about because he's so freaking
05:01tough.
05:02But just in general about Drake, I think some of the stuff last week about how good he looks
05:07in practice, I think some of that was a byproduct of the, you know, reporters doing their jobs
05:13and asking a lot of questions because there was a long layoff.
05:17And what else is there to talk about on this team other than the third overall pick sitting
05:21in the garage?
05:23But from what I heard, you know, I think physically he's doing, he's doing well.
05:28I would say as far as playing quarterback in this offense, there are some things that
05:35they want to see more improvement on before, you know, really giving him, you know, that
05:39starting opportunity.
05:42Should have signed a veteran like we talked about earlier in the week.
05:45We're going to miss on that bad management.
05:48So the other the other guy who I find to be interesting here with this offense as we get
05:53ready for the game on Sunday is Kendrick Bourne.
05:56He's back at practice yesterday.
05:59He was talking up his vibe.
06:00Van Pelt said the vibe was different.
06:03Bourne just told the media a few moments ago that he's kind of limited right now, so he
06:07can't do everything.
06:09He then said, well, I can do everything, but I have a count, so I'm just trusting the process.
06:15Does Kendrick Bourne play on Sunday limited snaps or do you think they take at least one
06:20more week to get him back on the practice field and see if he continues to get better?
06:25You know, that's a great question.
06:26I think, you know, a lot of it would come down to, you know, special teams and sort
06:32of depth and things like that.
06:34And, you know, does the center position and what's going on there like Hudson's probably
06:39going to be up?
06:41Does that affect things?
06:43How does that all shake out?
06:44I mean, I think ideally.
06:46Yeah, I think ideally Kendrick Bourne gets out there and he plays probably.
06:54I don't know, two max, 20 snaps, get them a few design touches.
07:01Now, you know, can Alex Van Pelt actually do that?
07:04That's that's a whole nother topic of discussion.
07:06But I think ideally, I think Kendrick needs to get out there, get back into game action.
07:11It's been a long time and just, you know, get his feet wet.
07:14And I just think where they are.
07:16I think there's a benefit to that where, you know, I'm not really worried about, oh geez.
07:21Well, they need a gunner on punt team because of X, Y and Z.
07:24I think I think it's more important to get Bourne out there because like I talked about
07:28the other day, I'm really hoping that once Bourne gets back in the mix, we start seeing
07:34some trips with Bourne and Douglas and Paul and sort of that's to me, that's where the
07:41offense when they're not running the ball, at least a passing offense needs to go through.
07:45It needs to Van Pelt needs to work some magic off of those three guys.
07:51One more receiver question for you, Van Pelt was asked about Javon Baker today.
07:57He said he has the talent to play, but Van Pelt wants to see him line up correctly and
08:01run the right routes before giving him more snaps.
08:06Are we at the point now week five where we might as well just chalk this up as a lost
08:12season for Javon Baker?
08:14Are we there yet?
08:15It could be from what I'm hearing internally.
08:20I don't think they're exactly thrilled with him.
08:24And this is, you know, this is, you know, it's funny how all these things that we talk
08:28about on the podcast and stuff like that, like from like, you know, a week ago, you
08:32know, like the, we talked about the selfish play on the defense coming out of the Jets
08:36game and all of a sudden it's a storyline this week.
08:38And we talked about Javon Baker in the preseason, like what the hell kind of route is this that
08:43he's running in the preseason game and now it's a, it's an issue, you know, all this
08:48sort of stuff.
08:49It's, it's nice to hear that, uh, that our observations are in line with what's going
08:54on with the team.
08:55And I, I've just heard, yeah, I, I've heard not great things about Javon, um, you know,
09:01he's a young kid and we knew he was immature and there were going to be issues.
09:05I never want to bury a kid, you know, NFL players are never static.
09:10You might suck one week, but in two months you might be a good player cause you're stacking
09:15success every day.
09:16So I don't want to bury him at all, but, uh, I think they're trying to show him some tough
09:21love and, and we'll see how he reacts to it and whether he can get back into the mix.
09:27But as of right now, yeah, I mean, you know, why would you, why would you play him over
09:31like a caisson booty who I think, um, you know, I've been impressed.
09:35Another kid who was immature, had some off field issues coming out.
09:38But from what I hear, he's done, you know, all the right things the past couple of years.
09:42So I'd much rather reward that than, um, hope and pray on Baker.
09:49Maybe the gambling thing struck fair in him when he, when he got, you know, when he got
09:52caught on that and, and maybe it, you know, they say scared him straight, so to speak.
09:56Maybe he woke up and said, I got to stop messing around because my career could be over any
10:01moment.
10:02Uh, last one, I promise you on the receiver and pop Douglas talked about his frustration,
10:09his tantrum, Greg, I was impressed with how pop handled it.
10:11What'd you think?
10:12Yeah, I completely agree.
10:13You know, another thing that we, um, sort of talked about that, uh, hadn't become an
10:18issue, but it was there on film and everybody, everybody could see it, him poke to a lesser
10:23extent.
10:24Um, you know, I questioned his professionalism and, um, and I think he, he, he said that
10:31he saw it on film.
10:32He was embarrassed.
10:33He realizes the way that it looks and that's the way that it looks.
10:37And, uh, yeah, I was very, you know, pops, a kid who, you know, I've been impressed
10:42with him.
10:43Um, you know, the whole time that he's been here and, you know, being a professional is
10:47a big thing.
10:48And I think probably Gerard Mayo probably had something to do with it and, you know,
10:53talk to him and, you know, related to him, you know, one-on-one and, but I thought it
10:59was extremely impressive and it gives me a hope.
11:02Not that I didn't have hope for pop because I do think he's really good and I do think
11:06he needs to become more of a focal point of this offense, but for him to react that
11:11way and say, he's going to be better.
11:12And basically like, you know, people who are my fans, they don't need to be seeing that.
11:17That's, that's really good stuff by pop.
11:18I'm very encouraged.
11:20Big fan of pop Douglas.
11:21I am a big fan of pop Douglas.
11:23All right, let's jump to the defense, uh, for a couple of different things because the
11:26Marcus Covington also spoke with the media.
11:29Uh, he said as far as Marte Mappu and Sione Taki Taki go, it sounds like Mappu might be
11:36ready to contribute earlier.
11:38Doug Kai tweeted this, uh, since he was in the defense last year, uh, Covington said
11:43the Patriots are still getting to know Taki Taki on the field.
11:47Do we see one of those two guys?
11:49Do we see both of those guys?
11:51If we see one or two of those guys, how much do you think they could play Greg?
11:55Yeah, I, I do think guys need to be on a pitch count.
11:58I think that, um, I do think that Mappu, uh, stands a better chance of, um, being part
12:04of this game and being part of a package.
12:06Um, make no mistake.
12:08They need both guys.
12:09Um, with some of the stuff that was apparent on film against the 49ers, the, the Patriots
12:15were slow.
12:16Um, when you're slow at middle linebacker, uh, you, you're, you're a slow defense and
12:21that's out there on film for everybody.
12:23I mean, look, it's not Jelani Tavaes fault that he had to be put in that position.
12:26He was doing his best for the team.
12:28It's just not his thing having to be, you know, 25 yards down the field and carrying,
12:33you know, Jawan Jennings or Debo Samuel down the middle of the field.
12:37I mean, you know, he's not going to look good doing that, but I, I do think, you know, I'm
12:43hopeful that talkie talkie can at least come in and, uh, do some special teams and be a
12:49depth guy at linebacker.
12:51I mean, his bag is kind of, you know, being a smaller, quicker linebacker who I think,
12:56uh, can help, uh, in some of their sub packages and Mapu, if he can stay on the field, ideally
13:02like, you know, he's a middle of the field safety linebacker hybrid that, uh, can replace
13:09a divide and be in there and sort of be, uh, the, the past defender down the middle of
13:14the field.
13:15And so, yeah, I'm hopeful that both of those guys can, can start to get their feet wet
13:19similar to Bourne.
13:21Um, because I do think they, they can help a lot, you know, with some of the issues on
13:27this defense.
13:28Um, and they can also, both of them are also pretty good blitzers and can come from the
13:31second level.
13:33And I think that's something they need to do along with, you know, what I wrote for
13:37today was, you know, and we talked about it last pod, the Patriots need to start playing
13:41more man coverage.
13:42Their zone coverages have been terrible compared to last year and like, look, Tyreek Hill and
13:47Jayden wall, Jaylen model, aren't the ideal guys to do it against, but you kind of want
13:51to make Snoop Huntley, um, make some throws, which we'll talk about.
13:56Uh, I think all those guys can help the Patriots do that in terms of playing man coverage and
14:01also rushing the passer.
14:04Last one from Covington.
14:05I want you to let me know if you agree with this or disagree with this statement, Covington
14:10told the media, this is from your buddy, Mike Giardi, uh, on Twitter, Covington says the
14:15Patriots are quote unquote, winning the rush and causing quarterbacks to escape the pocket.
14:20That's where the trap rush has failed, meaning others haven't kept the quarterback caged
14:26in.
14:27Do you think Greg that the Patriots have been winning the rush and have they been winning
14:32the rush enough to your eyes?
14:35I would say it's been inconsistent.
14:37I'm not going to totally say he's, he's wrong.
14:40Um, certainly there are times, um, you know, where it's just not working in tandem, um,
14:48you know, both the initial rush and the quote unquote trap rush.
14:51Um, but you know, it needs to be a lot more, uh, consistent.
14:57I mean, I do think Keon white is, is winning his rushes.
15:00I think Equality has done a good job at times.
15:03Dietrich Wise has done a good job at times, but, uh, they just have to be a lot more in
15:08sync.
15:09I mean, I do think, I do think they're going to need to start blitzing more.
15:12Um, you know, the four man rush against some of these teams, it's just not, you know, working
15:18out, but we'll have to see which direction they go.
15:20All right, we'll get into this dolphins game, but first Greg's going to get into his prize
15:24picks this week.
15:26Prize picks is America's number one daily fantasy sports app with over 5 million active
15:30members prize picks is the easiest and most exciting way to play daily fantasy sports.
15:35All you do is pick more or less on two to six player stat projections and watch the
15:40winnings roll in.
15:41Like I have the past two weeks.
15:42You can now went up to a hundred times your money on prize picks with as little as four
15:47correct picks.
15:48Okay.
15:49There's a lot of pressure building two straight weeks of hitting my prize picks.
15:55Um, I will just say upfront, if, if I was just playing, um, I would probably sit out
16:04this game because I don't feel great about anything.
16:07I think these are two teams that I don't know what the hell's going to happen, um,
16:12on Sunday.
16:13I, and, and I think prize picks also doesn't know what the hell's going to happen on Sunday
16:18because their options for dolphins and Patriots players were limited this week.
16:23Uh, but I did make a pick.
16:26And so if you will see, if we can make it three weeks in a row, I only did three picks
16:29and there's no free square this week, but I did three picks, 20 bucks to win two 80.
16:35I did Jalen Polk more than 26 and a half receiving yards.
16:40He had 30, I think last week, every week he's been getting a little bit more.
16:44Now if Jalen Ramsey is on him all day long, we'll feel great about it.
16:49Uh, but I'm hoping like, can they just put Taekwon Thornton on and just let Jalen Ramsey
16:54run down the field?
16:55I mean, I just think they got to get touches for Polk.
16:58I, I went Tyreek Hill more than a half rushing and receiving TDs.
17:05Uh, I was looking back his history with the Patriots, of course, you know, different head
17:10coach, different, uh, defensive play caller.
17:13He's pretty much averaged a touchdown, a game against the Patriots.
17:17Um, and they are running a lot of their offense through Tyreek.
17:21They're getting him touches and I don't feel great about the discipline on the Patriots.
17:24So I think, you know, him or Waddle are going to, uh, bust one, whether it's running or
17:29receiving.
17:31And Antonio Gibson over more than a half rushing and receiving TDs.
17:36I'm going with, um, you know, Ramondre Stevenson probably going to sit a little bit.
17:43Gibson's going to get more touches.
17:44I can't see down on the goal line them putting Stevenson in unless Gibson is tired to all
17:49of a sudden that, yeah, let's put the fumbler in on first and goal five.
17:55Yeah.
17:55And I would really, really like to see Antonio Gibson get more action in the past game.
18:00Like we saw the 50 yarder late in the game.
18:02He's a, he's a matchup issue.
18:04And I think that can be exploited.
18:05Download the prize picks app today and use code CLNS and get $50 instantly.
18:10When you play $5, that's code CLNS on prize picks to get $50 instantly.
18:14When you play $5, you don't even need to win to receive the $50 bonus.
18:18It's guaranteed prize picks run your game.
18:22Greg, so excited about his prize picks.
18:24He punched his microphone.
18:26All right.
18:26So let's, let's look at this matchup on Sunday.
18:29Let's start with, uh, Alex van Peltz, his brain trust and, uh, how they
18:35might attack this Miami defense.
18:36What are you thinking, Greg?
18:38Yeah.
18:38So, um, a couple of things, um, stood out, you know, watching some film.
18:42Um, you know, I know the dolphins are having injury issues.
18:46They just lost Jalen Phillips.
18:47Um, so they're probably going to have chop Robinson out there.
18:50He's a rookie, right?
18:52Um, yes, yes.
18:53Rookie Penn state.
18:55Yep.
18:55Uh, first round 21st overall.
18:58I mean, good player.
18:59Um, you know, you just wonder, you might be able to take
19:03advantage of him, you know, on the edge.
19:05Um, uh, they have the, the dolphins have a, uh, I didn't know if you
19:12noticed this Nick, but they have a cornerback named storm duck.
19:17Um, yes, yes, yes.
19:20He he's, uh, he made a, uh, he made a play against, uh, Tennessee.
19:24I'm trying to remember what play it was, but he, and I remember seeing on the back
19:27of his Jersey duck and I'm like, Oh, okay.
19:30Yep.
19:30Storm duck is out there along with, uh, you know, Jalen Ramsey and cater
19:35Kuhu, they had the, uh, the, the all name team out there.
19:38Storm duck and cater Kuhu.
19:41Uh, Jordan Poirier safety didn't practice the other day.
19:44We'll see if he can make it.
19:46He hasn't been playing well.
19:47Javon Holland, of course, number eight is one of the best safeties in the game.
19:51I like their defensive line class.
19:53Campbell, dude, that dude is still going and still playing good
19:57balls, uh, Siler in the middle 92.
20:00He's always had good games against the Patriots.
20:02Agba.
20:03Um, I do think this is a team.
20:06I, this is a good defense that they are.
20:08I mean, it's not going to be easy.
20:10I mean, I do think the Patriots need to get back to running the ball.
20:13And like we talk about pretty much ad nauseum, just be like,
20:17well, I don't think they have a great pass rush.
20:19Um, no, they, this has to be a premium where they say we're not getting the
20:24quarterback hit, at least not in the first quarter, like we're going to max
20:27protect, we're going to do certain things like, you know, just let's try to get our
20:31feet under us, um, before we, we, we get a little bit crazy.
20:36So, you know, I think they can run the ball.
20:37They don't blitz a lot.
20:39You just, you know, they have some ball Hawks.
20:41So, uh, Jacoby Berset can't be laying the ball out there or else, uh, or
20:45else they're going to pounce on it.
20:47I mean, you got to love Ramsey when you watch him.
20:50He, he made a couple of plays against Tennessee where he just downhill
20:54gets to the, gets to the line.
20:55He's playing pretty much like a, like a defensive end and he just streaks
21:00down and just smokes a running back.
21:02He, he plays with intensity.
21:04Uh, they don't even really throw his way like they don't really try.
21:09Uh, Calvin Ridley was erased.
21:11He was non-existent in the game on Monday night.
21:14Uh, so I mean, Ramsey's good.
21:18Campbell, as you said, sealer is good.
21:20The, the, the matchup to me, Greg is the interior offensive line
21:24was late in Robinson, having issues in past protection city.
21:27So just getting back had a rough week last week, Nick Leverett,
21:30your backup center, if he plays.
21:32Campbell is a nightmare.
21:34As you said, still, he is sixth in football when it comes to pass rush
21:38win rate from defensive tackles.
21:41And so he's, he's still playing good football.
21:44A couple of things though, that I noticed about the defensive
21:46tackles, number one, Campbell, he's, he's playing, you know,
21:50he's not playing a ton of snaps.
21:51He played last week, 54% of the snaps.
21:54It was actually, actually he's played 54% of the snaps this year.
21:58Last week, season high, 36 snaps short week.
22:04So they're managing them.
22:06How much is he actually going to play?
22:08Can you go a little, no huddle, hurry up and try to keep them
22:11off the field from time to time.
22:12I think the Patriots could mess with that if they trust their
22:15offensive line and their quarterback to be able to run the operation.
22:19The other thing, I don't know if you noticed, but you know, Zach Sealer,
22:22he's another dude you said, as you said, he's made some plays.
22:26He's top 20 and pass rush win rate.
22:28So you got two defensive tackles on this defense, two of the top 20 interior
22:34defensive lineman when it comes to pass rush.
22:37That could be a problem in this game, but I don't know if you saw it.
22:41I saw it.
22:42Sealer tends to get very aggressive at times.
22:46And I thought that Tennessee took advantage of that.
22:49They took advantage of that on a touchdown.
22:51I thought it was a nice play call by Callahan where they had Spears and the
22:55Wildcat and they ran like a fake jet sweep to Pollard and Spears kept it.
23:01And Sealer just was like all gas, no brakes towards Spears.
23:05It just like arm tackle, whirling Dervish 95 miles an hour.
23:11And Spears did one little move to the left and Sealer went flying right by him.
23:15Where'd he go?
23:18There was another play.
23:19There was another play in the Tennessee game where again, Sealer just got caught.
23:24Well, he's just like shrieking.
23:25He looked like Usha last week on the Mason touchdown run.
23:29He's just like shrieking that.
23:31So I do think they can take advantage of, of Sealer's aggressiveness downhill
23:37if they pick the right spots.
23:40Uh, and I, I agree with you on Gibson.
23:43This, this run defense for Miami is difficult.
23:46Uh, you know, they're just doing a really good job when it comes to
23:51stuffing runs and then all of that.
23:54But I thought Spears, uh, gave Miami a little bit of an issue and Spears is
24:02similar Spears is quicker than Gibson, but Gibson is similar to Spears.
24:07And I think Gibson, he has the opportunity with his elusiveness and that quickness.
24:14I think they could find some opportunities against the run defense.
24:17It's not going to be easy.
24:18I agree with you.
24:18The defense is good, but I do think they can find some opportunities there.
24:23All right.
24:23Before we get to the Patriots defense against this Dolphins offense, Greg,
24:28tell them all about game time.
24:31It's that time of year football season.
24:34It's nice and cool outside.
24:35Yeah.
24:36I got to get out to a game college tomorrow.
24:3880, by the way, tomorrow's going to be like, yeah, tomorrow's gonna be 75 to 80.
24:43The hell's going on.
24:44So, I mean, get out of the house and get to a football game where there's college
24:48pro and make sure you use game time to do it.
24:51Game time has a new feature called game time picks that makes getting tickets to
24:54see your favorite teams play live even easier.
24:57Game time picks filters out the fluff to show you only incredible deals on great
25:02seats so you don't have to waste time searching through thousands of tickets.
25:06I love the all-in pricing.
25:07Toggling this feature shows the total up front, no surprise fees at checkout, like
25:12those other rat bastards, uh, ticketing, seed views, uh, get a panoramic view from
25:18your seat in the app before you buy.
25:20That's a must for me.
25:21Uh, I wonder how the deals are.
25:23I assume there's pretty good deals for dolphins Patriots this weekend.
25:27So make sure you check it out.
25:28Download the game time app, create an account and use code CLNS for $20 off
25:32your first purchase terms apply again, create an account and redeem code CLNS
25:37for $20 off download game time today.
25:40What time is it game time?
25:42All right.
25:43Pat's defense, uh, blown assignments gave up some big plays against San Francisco
25:49last weekend, uh, Kyle Duggar likely not to be out there, your thoughts about how
25:55they match up against a Miami offense that, that frankly, Greg going in.
25:59I think the biggest question to me is the dolphins offense looked absolutely
26:03lost on Monday night and they haven't been good leading into Monday night, but
26:08we also have to understand and appreciate the fact that they've played three
26:11quarterbacks in four games and Huntley pretty much just got there.
26:16So the first question before you get into breaking it down, I want to ask
26:19you is if you're Covington, because Covington said today, look, I'm not
26:23going to, I'm not going to get fooled pretty much by the tape on Monday.
26:26They still have got Hill.
26:27They've got waddle.
26:28They've got fast running backs.
26:31If you're preparing for this game as Covington is, and you look at
26:35Monday, how much do you say to yourself?
26:38All right.
26:38What happened on Monday was kind of a thrown together plan with Huntley.
26:42And now that they've had a full week and he's, you know, could they, could
26:45they change some of what we saw on Monday and should the Patriots anticipate
26:51a little bit more exciting of an offense from the dolphins on Sunday?
26:56Well,
26:57here, I'll put it this way, Nick, you know, watching the dolphins on film.
27:01Um, Mike McDaniel still does a lot of like really good stuff.
27:05Um, there's, you know, all the motion he moves Tyreek around.
27:09He'll be running back.
27:10He'll be in, you know, fast motion.
27:12The dolphins lead the league in motion at the snap.
27:16You know, we talked about it the other day, the Patriots are last.
27:19I think the dolphins are over 50% motion at the snap, which to me, I mean, it
27:24stresses the defense and right now the Patriots aren't exactly sound in what
27:29they're doing and, you know, we've seen in every game we've seen bus.
27:32And I do think watching the film, like there was a, uh, it's hard to explain,
27:37but there, you know, Mike McDaniel was doing a lot of his stuff, especially
27:40in the ground game.
27:42Um, I do think that there were a lot of opportunities there.
27:45I think if Huntley, if he had a better quarterback, I think the dolphins, you
27:49know, would have done some more good things in that game.
27:53I mean, I think, I thought they came out, it got worse as the game went on.
27:57I mean, you had freaking snaps before the quarterback was ready.
28:01Like they look like a, they look like a crap show, uh, as the game went on.
28:06But I mean, you know, the bones of the offense of being really good
28:12and being explosive, it's there.
28:15This is my issue with the dolphins and, and where they are right now.
28:18And it's, I know McDaniel's get is getting a lot of heat.
28:22Um, their personnel is getting a lot of heat for not having a better backup for
28:26two.
28:26I understand all that, all that stuff's valid.
28:29But to me, this is the, this is the whole matchup of the game.
28:33I think the dolphins offensive line stinks out loud.
28:36Like they are horrendous.
28:38Patrick Paul, who we talked about, he was in that group of offensive tackles,
28:43bottom of the second round to the top of the third before the Patriots took Caden
28:48Wallace.
28:49Uh, I think he went to Houston.
28:50Uh, he was one of those guys on the list and I don't know if, well, I mean,
28:54Taron Armstead's supposed to be out there.
28:56Of course he's hurt.
28:57You know, this is, this is what happens.
28:59You know, everybody clamors for let's sign this old guy who breaks down
29:03after two games every single year.
29:05Let's get this guy.
29:06And then you're left with, you know, a rookie who's not ready to play.
29:11I mean, Patrick Paul awful on film and, you know, Robert Jones, the left
29:16guard, um, has a nice reputation.
29:18I think he stinks.
29:20Ikenberg the right guard.
29:22He's okay.
29:23Austin Jackson, the right tackle has always stunk.
29:26Um, you know, like it, it just like the, the lack of athletic
29:30ability and cohesiveness.
29:32I mean, to me, that's, what's holding the dolphins back.
29:36It's not the play calling.
29:38It's not the quarterback, even though, you know, Huntley could do more.
29:41It's the offensive line.
29:43There are, there are complete disaster.
29:45Mike McDaniel is trying to, as opposed to Alex van Pelt, he is trying to.
29:50Call plays scheme up around the offensive line and he's doing some really good
29:55stuff, but it's just, it's not working because they're that bad.
29:58So to me, the Patriots have to own the dolphins offensive line.
30:02And I think they should.
30:03I think Keon white's going to have a huge game.
30:06I think all those guys are going to have a huge game.
30:09You know, I worry about Uche on the edge.
30:10I don't like the idea of him playing.
30:12Hopefully.
30:13Um, Jennings is back this week.
30:14Cause I'd really much rather have him out there and just
30:17let Uche be a pass rusher.
30:19But to me, the B if the Patriots are going to win this game, they are going
30:24to win the battle against a dolphin's offensive line, they should dominate.
30:28Yeah.
30:28Armstead, I think concussion, uh, he was limited at yesterday's
30:32practice, Wednesday's practice.
30:34It looks like he could be on track to return on Sunday.
30:36We'll see.
30:37I agree with you about Patrick Paul.
30:39He was a train wreck.
30:40Uh, the, the thing that stood out to me is that I think the Patriots can play some
30:47games, uh, if they want to every once in a while, uh, let's see, uh, the right
30:52tackle, is that Arthur Jackson?
30:53Is that his name?
30:54Uh, Austin Jackson, Austin Jackson.
30:57Uh, he got absolutely torched twice when Tennessee had some simulated pressure
31:01and they, they totally messed with the right side of the line
31:05and he looked like he was lost.
31:07And the second one was late in the fourth quarter, which
31:12resulted in the safety.
31:14I mean, he, he just got, he was totally confused.
31:17He had no idea what to do.
31:18So I think Covington can, can, can play some games upfront.
31:22He doesn't have to do it a ton, but I do think they can catch Miami at
31:26opportune times by screwing around a little bit with, you know, simulated
31:29pressure, having defensive linemen back and send a blitzer from, you
31:33know, safety or, or corner.
31:35Uh, they can mess around with some of those games.
31:37Uh, they are having, when I think of a Mike McDaniel team, Greg, it's
31:42similar Shanahan, it's similar to Ben Johnson in Detroit, you know, running
31:47football, Sean McVay running football.
31:51They, they need their run game and their run game has been trash this year.
31:56They are getting murdered in the run game.
32:00So because they're not having a great time running the football, uh, they are
32:06just miserable, miserable when it comes to third down offense.
32:13And so, you know, when you look at it, Miami's 25th in football on third down
32:18offense that they're worse on third down defense.
32:21Uh, I do believe so.
32:24So when, you know, when you look at, when you look at some of these, you
32:27know, run game issues, actually, sorry, it's the absolute opposite.
32:31Miami is really good on third down defense, terrible on third down offense.
32:35So, you know, you've got to, you've got to be able to slow down that run game.
32:40And I think, as you mentioned earlier, Tyreek Hill on the edges,
32:43you're going to see jet sweeps.
32:45Uh, Miami loves to run outside the tackles.
32:48They'll throw a bunch of toss plays out there, but if it's Huntley, what I'm
32:53thinking is, you know, if you watch the game on Monday and it wasn't just, we
32:58were not sure about what we're going to do because Huntley just got into town.
33:04They really played it safe with Huntley.
33:07You know, there weren't many throws at all beyond 15 yards.
33:10It was like watching the Patriots offense.
33:12And when Huntley threw it deep, he was completely inaccurate.
33:16He almost threw a pick in the end zone.
33:18He underthrew Tyreek Hill.
33:20Uh, Hill was wide open again in the second half and he missed them.
33:23He threw it like three yards too deep.
33:25He tried to throw to the sideline on the left side to Tyreek Hill again.
33:30I don't know if he was trying to go back shoulder, but
33:32he was completely inaccurate.
33:35So a lot of the stuff that Miami was running on Monday was short stuff, quick
33:40stuff, and, you know, I just think if, if the Patriots get a little bit more
33:45aggressive in that front seven and they play five guys on the line every once in
33:50a while, if they play that more often and they decide, as you said, I would put, I
33:55would put Gonzalez on waddle one-on-one and I would double Tyreek Hill and I'd
34:00say, and I'd say, all right, we're, you know, we're going to go after time.
34:03We're going to go after Huntley a little bit.
34:05They're not running the football.
34:06Well, we're going to be aggressive upfront and we're going to trust our
34:09cornerbacks because this offensive line will collapse.
34:12Huntley will make a mistake and he can't beat us deep consistently.
34:15So.
34:16That that's kind of how I would do it if I were Covington, but obviously I'm not.
34:20So we'll, we'll see how it all sticks out.
34:21A couple of quick updates on the dolphins.
34:24I'm just seeing some reports.
34:26So Taryn Armstead and cornerback Kendall Fuller were present at practice today.
34:31Um, so there's some, they're optimistic that he could, that they could play.
34:37Moser, uh, was also back out there.
34:39He hasn't played since the first game of the season.
34:42Poyer was not out there.
34:44Um, they are thinking about activating Odell Beckham jr.
34:49Um, for this game.
34:51So yeah, that's just sort of a, uh, a little update.
34:56Marcus veteran, Marcus may would sub for, um, Poyer if he can't go.
35:02Um, yeah.
35:04Before we get to the pick, uh, for this week, I just want to highlight this
35:08because Dakota Randall, and I know you just reposted this, uh, Dakota Randall,
35:13uh, quote tweeted Greg's tweet from earlier in the week showing that crazy
35:18Jabril peppers play when the Patriots are getting smoked and peppers just
35:24doesn't give up on the play and he chases Mason down.
35:27I mean, it's a go to Greg's Twitter.
35:29It's really why I will always in forever love Jabril peppers.
35:33He's like my favorite player on this team.
35:36And, uh, apparently Gerard Mayo showed that play to the entire
35:40team as an example of like, look at this guy, this is, this is what we want.
35:47And, uh, pepper said about the play.
35:50It just comes naturally for me.
35:52Ever since I tore my ACL, you never take it and you never take no play.
35:56Um, that's double negative.
35:58You never take a play for granted that play didn't even matter.
36:02They kind of had the game one already, but it's just like the final whistle.
36:05Try to lead by example.
36:07Uh, I think, uh, Jabril peppers is a national treasure.
36:11All right.
36:11Before we get to the, uh, before we get to the pick this week, I want to remind
36:14you 50 bucks at BSJ for the year, but dog, you're already doing great work.
36:17As always over there.
36:19Uh, also prize picks.
36:20Greg's told you he's proud as a peacock walking around with his chest out.
36:24We'll see if it continues this weekend.
36:26CLNS is that code 50 bucks instantly when you play $5.
36:29And of course our friends at game time, if you want to check out the dolphins
36:33and Patriots, uh, this week, uh, this Sunday, you can, uh, go use code
36:37CLNS for 20 bucks off your first purchase.
36:39If you haven't used game time yet.
36:40So, uh, thanks to all of those, uh, who help the program.
36:44All right.
36:45Spread Patriots giving one and a half to the dolphins.
36:50Uh, the over under is 36 and a half.
36:54The weather 67 degrees and sunny six mile per hour winds.
36:58So the weather is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous.
37:01Whether, yeah, absolutely gorgeous on Sunday.
37:04I'm trying to, I'm looking for a full-time job.
37:05You never know.
37:06Put me in front of a green screen.
37:08Crazy shit can happen.
37:09Uh, all right.
37:10So, so let's get to the pick.
37:12I will, I will pick first.
37:13Cause you picked the last two weeks.
37:14I will also point out that, uh, so far this season, Greg is
37:18two one and one against the spread.
37:19I am three and one against the spread.
37:20We are both, I believe three and one straight up.
37:23Yeah.
37:24Well, uh, I think this is going to be an ugly game shocker.
37:29And if you're going to the game on Sunday, uh, do not
37:32anticipate lots of offense.
37:35To me, the difference is the Patriots are home.
37:40The Patriots are better in the red zone.
37:43And I think Huntley will turn the football over at least once.
37:46And I think Brissette will take care of the ball.
37:48I'm going with the Patriots.
37:50Uh, my final score is 1713.
37:53I don't think either team reaches 20.
37:56So I'm going 1713 Patriots win the game by four.
38:00They improved to, uh, two and three on the season.
38:03Greg, what do you think?
38:05So, uh, yeah, I think this could be ugly and, um, this could be really ugly.
38:11And I just want to bring people back in time a little bit.
38:14Cause this could, this game could, uh, it reminds me of this one.
38:19And possibly what we see.
38:20So 1988, uh, I would have been what 14 years old and I was a Dolphins fan.
38:27My dad had season tickets and, uh, we went to, there was a Sunday night
38:32game, November 20th, 1998, uh, Dolphins hosting the Patriots.
38:37It was Sunday night.
38:38Start time eight o'clock at the Joe Robbie stadium at the time.
38:42Uh, I remember, so my dad, because there was work, he had club levels, take the
38:46ticket.
38:47So we were in that, like, uh, at the time you remember, uh, it was like the
38:50Aqua seats at pro player, uh, or Joe Robbie stadium and we're there.
38:56And next to us, like, uh, um, uh, a section over was Jimmy Johnson's
39:03university of Miami football team.
39:05Uh, I think that was like Daniel Stubbs, probably.
39:08I don't know if Alonzo Highsmith was on that team, but like, you know, they
39:11were about to play in the national championship game, um, you know, in,
39:15in like a month they were going to play in the orange bowl and I think they won.
39:18And then Johnson went to the pros.
39:21So this game was absolutely freaking horrible.
39:24I mean, this was on national television.
39:26It was like ESPN or whatever it was.
39:28It was horrible.
39:29It was at halftime.
39:31It was three to three.
39:33Um, the, uh, the, the P the Patriots, uh, thanks to two.
39:41I've never even heard of him.
39:42Jason Starovsky field goals, one six to three, Tony Franklin kicked for the
39:47dolphins, uh, you know, barefooted Tony Franklin who used to kick for the
39:52Patriots, if I'm not mistaken, um, at halftime, the football was so bad that
39:57Jimmy Johnson got his team and left.
39:59They, they left because he didn't want his team watching that.
40:02Uh, so I'm, uh, part of me wants to pick six, three again.
40:07Uh, but I'm not going to, uh, similar to you.
40:09I think there will be some offense, um, manufactured in this game.
40:14I like the Patriots.
40:15They I'm too afraid to think about the alternative, them being one in four and
40:19losing to this, um, ass dolphins team right now.
40:23So I'm going, uh, Patriots, 17 dolphins, 14.
40:27Oh,
40:29oh, I got 1713.
40:31Greg got 1714.
40:33All right.
40:33My dog is losing her mind.
40:34She wants to eat.
40:35All right.
40:36So I got her on.
40:37He's Greg Omnic.
40:38Everybody enjoyed the game on Sunday.
40:39We're back early next week, uh, to discuss what is certainly, if you just
40:44listen to Greg Bedard going to be a fantastic and exciting football game.
40:48Uh, we, we just cannot wait for this until then be well.
