01:08What time is it?
01:09Game time.
01:10All right, before we get into some of the offensive line stuff, Greg, and a little bit
01:15of Brandon Ayuk, we'll try to do a little bit of Brandon Ayuk, not too much because
01:20both of us have had enough of the Ayuk talk, I think, but let's get into Drake May first.
01:27So the Drake May quote unquote plan, I take it that you don't like it, Greg.
01:32No, I don't.
01:34I mean, look, I'm sure there's a lot that Gerard Mayo is not telling us about this decision,
01:41which is fine and I guess is good compared to some of the other stuff where he said too
01:47much about the situation, including the phrase Drake outplayed Jacoby, which I just think
01:54was a huge misstep by him.
01:56There was no reason to do it.
01:58There was no upside.
02:00And I don't think it's completely damaging, but it's just not a good way to go into the
02:06season for the fans, the locker rooms, the quarterbacks to hear, yeah, you know, Drake
02:13outplayed Jacoby, but Drake's not starting the season.
02:16Jacoby is.
02:17Okay.
02:18I mean, that doesn't really make a whole lot of sense to me, but anyways, we've sort of
02:21talked about that before.
02:24So my issue with the Drake May plan now, which I think is maybe part two of the Drake May
02:30plan.
02:31We always heard about the plan.
02:32I'm sure it just didn't go through training camp in the preseason.
02:35I'm sure it was more like a, this is what his rookie year looks like.
02:39This is what, this is the progress that we want to see.
02:41These are the areas that he needs to get better.
02:44And right.
02:46You know, up until like the final week, we haven't heard Mayo say that, that Drake May
02:50was ready.
02:51I guess now he says he's right.
02:52He says a thousand percent.
02:54He's ready to start week two.
02:56If the worst case happens in week one, you know, I, I just, I just don't like it from
03:03a development process as far as Drake May and when he needs to play.
03:08Like, you know, it, Gerard says that he's ready to start week two in the worst case
03:14scenario when I was asking him questions the other day.
03:19Then why isn't he starting week one?
03:21If that is the case, if he's ready and he's outplayed Jacoby, why isn't he playing?
03:29To me, I think a couple of things are at play, well related to that, if he's not ready, if
03:35he's not truly ready, and again, the focus of the franchise, and I think there's a lot
03:40of people in the franchise, the focus is on 2025 and Drake may, they don't really care
03:44about this season.
03:45This season sort of gravy, whatever you get from Drake may be nice to see him at some
03:49point, but really it's about 2025.
03:52It's the, it's the Patrick Mahomes plan, which is, you know, sit them out almost all year,
03:58get his feet wet and then go to town in 2025 when the team is better around him and it's
04:04more conducive for a young quarterback.
04:08I just don't like how they haven't signed another quarterback to the practice squad.
04:13Right now it's just Jacoby, Drake, and Joe Milton.
04:17And you know, as coaches, as executives, like you just can't look at like the present day,
04:23like just in the immediate term.
04:24You have to think about all the different other factors that could, you have to look
04:27down the line and you have to anticipate problems and you have to solve them before they become
04:32problems.
04:34So, you know, as of right now, Jacoby Brissett, who already hurt his shoulder in the last
04:37preseason game is going behind a shaky offensive line against Lou Annamaromo, the Bengals defensive
04:44coordinator, a very experienced Bengals defense on the road.
04:49And I'm sorry, but you need to plan out worst case scenarios.
04:53And in that case, like you need to go get another quarterback, a veteran quarterback,
04:56have them on the practice squad, get them into the building just to give yourself options
05:01to win.
05:02If the worst happens in week two, somebody has to start, Jacoby's hurt.
05:06He can't start.
05:07At least you give yourself options.
05:09I just think they're hoping that Jacoby Brissett stays healthy for at least the first month
05:16of the season through the 49ers game, three out of four on the road, including a Thursday
05:21night at New York and all that's going to entail.
05:25I think ideally they don't want to entertain starting Drake May until week five, but you
05:31know, hope is not a strategy.
05:33You know, hope is a prayer and I'm not operating a football team on a hope and a prayer.
05:38I think they needed to do more and I think they're leaving too much to chance, including
05:44the most valuable asset in this franchise at this time.
05:48You know, there's too much risk involved and I don't like it.
05:52I think they would say that, hey, Drake May is ready, but he's not as ready as Jacoby
05:57Brissett.
05:58I touched you with Holly last night.
06:00I thought Holly made a good point about using the word prefer.
06:03I think they just prefer to start Brissett right now.
06:06I think they would tell you that they have confidence that may would be able to quote
06:10unquote survive out there if they were starting week one with him, but they just prefer to
06:14go with the veteran quarterback in the first month because of the stuff you just mentioned.
06:19I agree with you.
06:20I've said this with you for the last few months, you know, Bailey's happy as soon as they drafted
06:24Joe Milton along with May.
06:27Maybe he's happy makes the team just because of the veteran quarterback insurance and it's
06:31not because I'm concerned that Drake May is going to shrivel into a little tiny prune
06:36if he has to play week one or week two.
06:38It's just, hey, if the offensive line isn't ready for Drake May in week one, it's unlikely
06:42they'll be ready by week two and to go along with the wide receiver depth chart to figure
06:47things out.
06:48If you want him out there when he has the full assortment of wide receivers, when Kendrick
06:50Borden gets back, all that kind of stuff.
06:53I do think Greg, you mentioned, you know, Mayo and is talking like he has said too much.
06:58He continues to say too much.
07:00He hurts himself.
07:01He hurts the team here.
07:02It's the quarterback situation.
07:03I think he confuses the fan base.
07:05He contradicts himself a lot because he constantly talks a couple things that I found troublesome
07:12this week from from Mayo and what he said.
07:15And again, if this all works out, it doesn't matter inevitably.
07:19But what he's saying is not making things better.
07:22He said Monday, it confused me.
07:25I was on ninety eight five.
07:27I was doing the show solo in the midday and I was reading the quotes on Twitter in real
07:32time while I was doing the show because he spoke like, you know, a little bit before
07:36one o'clock or whatever it was.
07:38And he said he mentioned that it was a competition.
07:41It's a legit competition and they've been pushing competition this entire time.
07:46But then later on, he says, I don't want Jacoby Brissett feeling like somebody's nipping
07:50at his heels.
07:51It's like, well, that's the essence of a competition.
07:55If you're having an actual competition, it's because you want somebody nipping at somebody
07:59else's heels.
08:00That made no sense.
08:01And then today he contradicted what he said earlier in the week, Greg, earlier in the
08:06week when you asked him the questions and all of that.
08:08And he was talking about the development.
08:10He said, oh, yeah, we have a plan at practice.
08:12And, you know, he's going to be he's going to be, you know, working on the scout team
08:16and he's going to be.
08:18But then today he says to the media that you get better by playing football.
08:23So earlier in the week, he's pushing this idea that Drake may will develop and get better
08:28at practice and with the film work and all of that stuff.
08:32But then he goes out there today and says, well, I think you get better by actually playing
08:35the game.
08:36So is Drake may going to be capable of developing at practice and watching film and all that
08:42stuff?
08:43Is he going to develop well enough for you or does he have to eventually get out there
08:46and play?
08:47And that's when he's going to really develop.
08:48It's these contradictions and back and forth that just drive me crazy, Greg.
08:53Yeah, I agree with you.
08:56You know, the messaging definitely isn't, you know, in a straight line and it's not
09:01concise and it goes in different directions.
09:03And that's fine.
09:04I mean, look, he's a he's a rookie head coach that was kind of rushed into this.
09:08And I don't think, you know, I think we're both more about actions than words.
09:13And we like we might have concern about Mayo right now.
09:15But look, the the games are going to start on Sundays.
09:18And so, you know, we're going to get a scoreboard in.
09:20And even then, you know, even if things go rough, you know, you can always say, well,
09:26look at Dan Campbell.
09:27I mean, Dan Campbell, I think they were two and 14 his first year, his second year.
09:32I think they started 0 and 6 or something like that.
09:34And they came in here.
09:35They were freaking hot garbage.
09:37And then all of a sudden it turned around.
09:38And now the Lions are one of the favorites to go, if not win the Super Bowl this year.
09:44So it's you know, it's not a you know, it's there's going to be a lot of overreaction.
09:50We know to Sunday one way or the other.
09:52And we'll talk more about the Bengals, you know, the game and our pick in the next couple
09:58days.
09:59But, you know, and here's the other thing when I say, like, I don't think Mayo is telling
10:05us everything.
10:08And this is where I can sort of see their quote unquote plan for Drake May.
10:14I think if you if those guys were telling you the truth, I think what they would say
10:18is they've been underwhelmed by Jacoby Brissett, certainly in the last about like three weeks.
10:26I think they they see a lot of the concerns.
10:31And I've watched some of his start against the Bengals two years ago when they won.
10:36And statistically, he had a really good game.
10:38But I didn't love the film from Jacoby Brissett.
10:41You see a lot of the same stuff that we've seen in practice in the preseason games where
10:46he's holding the ball a little bit too long.
10:48He's not seeing where the open receivers are.
10:51He's taking sacks.
10:53He's throwing balls unnecessarily across the field.
10:56Like there's a lot to be concerned about.
10:58And I think I think really, if you if those guys were telling you the truth, they would
11:03probably say they they don't think Jacoby is going to be very good.
11:08They think that Drake's going to be in there sooner rather than later.
11:12But they're they're trying to do right by Jacoby because they pretty much promised him
11:16the job at least to start the season.
11:20And like, I would not be surprised if I don't know how quickly, but that that Drake may
11:28is in there sooner rather than later because the two of them are so close.
11:33And like a lot of it isn't how far Drake may come, because I do think he still has a long
11:38ways to go.
11:39He really does to be a good, effective starter in this league.
11:42Does he make some splash plays?
11:44Yeah.
11:45But that's because he's a he's a really good athlete.
11:47And we've seen him do it against second and third stringers.
11:50You know, it's sort of like what you would see out of him in ACC play where, you know,
11:55the competition isn't that great, but he's just that good of an athlete that he's going
11:58to make plays.
11:59He's going to make some throws.
12:01But, you know, over the balance, you know, there's a lot of iffy stuff out there, too,
12:05that pretty much evens out the other stuff.
12:08And, you know, so, you know, I think I think he'll do OK once he gets in there.
12:13I just really where I really, really do not want to rush him because I think even in these
12:17preseason games, you've seen after the initial sort of script, the first series, things start
12:23to go a little bit sideways, not haywire, because Drake does a good job of being very
12:27balanced.
12:28He's even keel.
12:29This is where I think he I think there's a low chance of him turning into Zach Wilson
12:34or Sam Darnold in terms of pressure and getting flustered in the media and the pressure and
12:39all this stuff getting to him and really affecting him.
12:42I don't think that's going to happen with Drake.
12:43I think he's I think he's got the stuff internally and in his head to survive all that stuff.
12:49And I think he's more along the lines of a Troy Aikman or Peyton Manning in terms of
12:54or even an Andrew Luck guys that came in.
12:57Granted, these guys were a lot more advanced than Drake May as quarterback, being ready
13:03to play in the NFL, given what they did in college, you know, but just in terms of mentality,
13:08those guys took a pounding their rookie year, you know, a lot of interceptions, a lot of
13:13sacks, a lot of losses, and it didn't affect those guys.
13:17I think Drake is more like those guys makeup wise than than the alternative, which I think
13:24I think gives the coaches confidence that even if they do, they rush the plan a little
13:29bit.
13:30It's not going to be going to be catastrophic for his development.
13:33All right, we got the old line to get to maybe a little bit on Iuke and some Bengals tidbits.
13:40But first, Greg, tell the fine people listening and or watching this program, this podcast
13:45all about prize picks.
13:46Prize picks is America's number one daily fantasy sports app, but over five million
13:50active members, including me and Nick.
13:53Prize picks is the easiest and most exciting way to play daily fantasy sports.
13:57Unlike other apps on prize picks, it's just you against the numbers.
14:02All you do is pick more or less like a guy's face comes up like Travis Kelsey and like
14:07eighty five yards receiving and you say he's going to get more or less.
14:10That's it.
14:11It's really easy.
14:12Two to six player stat projections and watch the rolling winnings roll in.
14:18They're running a special this month.
14:20One Caleb William passing yard gets you one win on prize picks every week in September.
14:25So if you do a four four player, I don't know, whatever they call it, bet and you put Caleb
14:33Williams in there, you're getting a free win, a free square.
14:36So all you have to do is win the other three.
14:38That's right.
14:39Only one yard gets you an automatic win every football weekend in September.
14:43Four weeks of free W's.
14:45Don't miss this deal on prize picks because it's gone.
14:47When September ends, you can now win up to one hundred times your money on prize picks
14:51with as little as four correct bets.
14:53Just to give you guys an example, having a little fun with the Thursday night game.
14:59So I am going.
15:02These are my actual picks.
15:03I'm going Travis Kelsey more than fifty eight point five receiving yards.
15:07Isaiah Pacheco, my Rutgers guy.
15:09I'm going more.
15:10Yeah, that's my guy.
15:12I'm going more than point five rush or receiving touchdowns.
15:16So I just need a touchdown from him.
15:18Derrick Henry.
15:20Same thing.
15:21I'm going.
15:22All I need is one rushing or receiving touchdown from him.
15:26I can see the big fella getting a carry at the goal line.
15:29And then this one I'm a little unsure of, but I went with it.
15:33Patrick Mahomes over two hundred sixty five and a half passing yards.
15:37I think the Ravens are going to play pretty good defense, but I think Mahomes is going
15:41to air it out.
15:42So those four picks and I didn't even do the Caleb Williams thing because I wanted to play
15:46Thursday night.
15:47I didn't want to wait till Sunday.
15:48Four picks will pay one hundred sixty bucks for me.
15:53So those are my those are my picks for Thursday night.
15:55Download the prize pick app today and use code CLNS and get fifty bucks instantly when
16:01you play five dollars.
16:02That's code CLNS on price picks to get fifty dollars instantly when you play five dollars.
16:09You don't even need to win to receive the fifty dollar bonus.
16:12It's guaranteed prize picks.
16:14Run your game.
16:15All right, offensive line city, so talk to the media the other day, but he hasn't really
16:23done anything right now.
16:25He wasn't even he wasn't at practice yesterday.
16:27From what I read, Darian Lowe banged up working away from the team.
16:33So going into Sunday right now, Greg, it looks like it would be a core of four Leverett Andrews
16:43Robinson or when or when it went right tackle your thoughts about where this offensive line
16:49is right now before we get to week one.
16:51Yeah.
16:52I was kind of surprised that city wasn't even on the practice field when we were there
16:57on.
16:58I guess that was Monday, I guess.
17:01Yeah.
17:02Monday.
17:03And they should be out there this afternoon.
17:04Today's Wednesday.
17:05I want to correct myself.
17:08It was Monday.
17:09He wasn't out there.
17:10They were off yesterday.
17:11Yeah.
17:12And I was at city's locker when he was talking.
17:15He was suited up for practice.
17:17He talked to us.
17:18You know, he sort of hadn't he sort of deflected the question when asked if he's going to be
17:22able to practice and play this Sunday.
17:25He mostly talked about that.
17:28He thought he did something to his Achilles, and I think we talked about it last podcast
17:33where I said, you know, my initial opinion was at at at best.
17:39It's a high ankle sprain at worst.
17:42It's a pop Achilles and he's out for the year.
17:44And that was his fear initially, even though he didn't think it was that bad, he was able
17:49to walk a little bit once he got off the field and he said the the MRI was negative.
17:54So he said, quote, unquote, it's not torn.
17:58But that's I mean, just look at like Christophe Porzingis.
18:02What happened to him during the the postseason at the end of the year where, you know, he
18:09all of a sudden pulled up lame and he didn't tear his Achilles, but there was something
18:13with the calf.
18:15Anytime you get into that territory, man, you know, watch out like you, you push it,
18:19you tear that Achilles, you know, look out.
18:22So I wouldn't expect to see city now.
18:25The left guard thing is interesting.
18:28You know, Leverett is mostly a guard.
18:30We've seen him.
18:31Most of the fans have seen him at center with what's gone on this summer.
18:36He did start one game or play a lot one game when he was at the Bucs at center with Tom
18:40Brady at quarterback, and I thought he did fine.
18:43He obviously had some issues in the preseason for the Patriots, but he's really a guard.
18:47And, you know, he's he's he's a solid player.
18:50You know, I I just find it interesting that, you know, could is he just a placeholder in
18:55case so gets back?
18:57We'll get our first injury report today.
19:02You know, I also think there's a chance that Michael Jordan, who was released in the second
19:08wave of cuts from the roster signed to the practice squad.
19:12He's been mostly the left guard backup during the course of the summer.
19:17And I actually think he's played pretty well.
19:19He's played a lot of NFL games.
19:22I think he's probably one of the best linemen that they have technique wise in the in the
19:26zone blocking scheme because he's done it before.
19:30So I don't rule out the possibility that Jordan is a elevation for game day and he
19:38could start or split time with Leverett at left guard if needed.
19:43Certainly I think certainly I think he'll be up because Leverett's the backup center.
19:46So if anything happens to David Andrews, Leverett moves over to center Michael Jordan pops in
19:51the left guard.
19:52But, you know, I do think and we've heard Mayo talk about it, Nick, about this this
19:57offensive line, which is basically what we saw in the last preseason game outside of.
20:01So, you know, I came on here and told you and the listeners that, you know, it it wasn't
20:08as bad as it looked under the the the torrential flags being thrown all over the place.
20:15And if they could get a core forward to line up in the proper place, you know, it wasn't
20:20that bad and it looked pretty good at times.
20:23And I think this is further and Mayo even talked about it, that he thought some of that
20:27was overblown.
20:29And I think this is further confirmation that, you know, it looked pretty good the other
20:33day.
20:34And I think the more they get to practice, we talked about before the preseason game,
20:38they didn't have a padded practice together.
20:40They only had two sort of jog throughs, not really fair to them.
20:43So, you know, I do think for now, I do think this is their best line and gives them the
20:47best chance to be effective against the Bengals.
20:51I stand by what I've said.
20:53I'm going to give them the first four or five weeks of the season.
20:55Settle up front.
20:56See what they've got.
20:57I think they have.
20:58If so is healthy.
20:59I think they have at least three solid to good to very good linemen.
21:03I think when you arguably is, you know, very good if he plays guard Andrews is Andrews.
21:08I think so is fine.
21:09I even think Leighton Robinson, all you need is one of those two guys.
21:12So or Robinson to work out for you and they have options, you know, chooks.
21:17Can he can he settle that right tackle?
21:19At least if you get the Darien low back, Caden Wallace, who's shown flashes, he's gotten
21:23better throughout camp.
21:24Does he end up your right tackle by week four or five?
21:26So I'm going to give him time to let it settle.
21:28I know that's not popular, but that's the way I look at it.
21:31Maybe I'm a little bit more patient than other.
21:32No react now.
21:33Nick, don't call it garbage.
21:37Call it garbage.
21:38Indict Elliott Wolfe.
21:41Speaking of and indicting Elliott Wolfe and everything else, do you have anything more
21:45to share about Brennan?
21:47Because I know you and I, I believe feel mostly the same way about this thing.
21:52And I think we're both pretty frustrated with with some of the quote unquote narratives
21:57that are out there.
21:58But do you have any final parting words on your podcast about you?
22:03So and I and I think I saw you tweet this earlier and I, you know, I totally agree that,
22:11you know, if you were going to criticize the Patriots, you know, could if they blew
22:17if they blew Calvin Ridley out of the water with an offer, because I think they offered
22:22around 20.
22:23I think he ended up getting like 22 if they went 25, 26, something like that.
22:29Is there a chance Calvin Ridley would be here?
22:32Yeah, there's a chance.
22:34I still I still think at the end of the day, his wife or girlfriend or whatever, from what
22:37I understand, and I've heard this from multiple NFL sources, she did not want to leave the
22:43South.
22:44They've been in the South their whole lives.
22:46Greg, obviously, you're just carrying the Patriots water on this.
22:49You are a mouthpiece for Elliott Wolfe.
22:53How dare you say you spoke to multiple people that said that it actually didn't just come
22:56down to the money?
22:58I just want to make sure that we have that out there.
23:00Yes.
23:01And also that I was paid off by a perch at practice that the Patriots gave me, I guess,
23:10to make me fat and happy and to say all nice things about the Patriots, even though I've
23:16second guessed what they've done in the draft.
23:20I've been, you know, critical of some of their decisions as far as the roster, the final
23:2753, how they're handling the quarterback.
23:30But anyways, so, I mean, do I think there's a chance that Ridley could have been here
23:35that you could second guess that?
23:38Yes, slightly.
23:39But again, Calvin Ridley's a number two receiver and he his wife, girlfriend, she did not want
23:46to leave the South.
23:47They've been in the South their whole life.
23:49OK, and the Brandon, Brandon, I have signs with the 49ers, which I told you he was never
23:54going to leave.
23:55They were not going to trade him.
23:56It was all this was, was a song and dance.
23:58I talked to the media the other day, basically admitted that he orchestrated this whole thing
24:03to remain in San Francisco, that he was using the Patriots and the Browns and the Steelers
24:09and whatever just to get the 49ers up.
24:11So bravo to Brandon and his representatives for doing that.
24:17This has nothing to do with guaranteed money or anything like that.
24:22Don't listen to any of this misdirection nonsense that's out there on the airwaves
24:26locally.
24:28They're just they're just they're missing the point, you know, predictably and on purpose,
24:36you know, to distract you to to to be entertaining, to, you know, rip the team because there's
24:45nothing else really going on in the two two week run up to the season.
24:5149ers was never coming here now.
24:54So you have you have two receivers who did not want to leave where they were or their
24:59you know, their region.
25:00OK, the Patriots lost out on two receivers, yes, but that doesn't mean that I don't think
25:07you could take any overarching things like New England's not a destination or they're
25:11being cheap or that it just happened to be two receivers that the likelihood of them
25:15getting either one wasn't great, but at least they tried.
25:19OK, and I'm sure some people will mock that and say, you know, yeah, they tried.
25:23I mean, I do think it's a if you're being honest, I do think it's a good sign for the
25:29future as they build this thing that Elliot Wolfe obviously looks at this roster and says,
25:34you know, we need a number one receiver.
25:36He went out and tried to get a number one receiver and he's bringing a bag, which we
25:41know Bill Belichick never would have done.
25:43You know, I think I think Brandon Cooks is still like the the leading receiving receiver
25:48that they've ever had in terms of payment for one season, and that was a long ass time
25:53ago. So look, you know, get beyond you, get beyond Calvin Ridley, you know, hope that
26:02the draft hopefully they can get a tackle in the draft.
26:05I've been starting to watch those guys, the guy from LSU, Cooper.
26:12Yeah. Is that his name, Cooper?
26:15I think it's Campbell.
26:16Yeah, well, Campbell.
26:17And then there's a guy at Texas who I really like as far as his skills.
26:22But watching a lot of offense tackles, you get that tackle in the draft, you sign a wide
26:27receiver next year, probably draft another one and, you know, start building this thing.
26:31But don't overreact to the brand and stuff.
26:33It's a total non story.
26:35And yeah, it just is.
26:38I'll just say this, if you want to listen to my entire tangent, you can check it out
26:43on YouTube, Zoan Bertrand, 98.5 YouTube channel.
26:46They took the whole segment I did on IUK from Monday.
26:50So it's up on that YouTube channel.
26:52I went into a lot of detail, so I'm not going to waste time doing it here.
26:56I'll just say every report, every single report from every single credible reporter.
27:03I'm talking locally.
27:05I'm talking nationally.
27:06I'm talking out on the West Coast.
27:09All of them, they all agree universally that the Patriots had the best offer, and
27:14multiple reporters out of those reporters have said that that includes guaranteed
27:19money, and the latest was Greg's buddy, Bert Breer, said it on Sunday night, Sports
27:24Sunday. Money was not a factor across the board.
27:27The Patriots had the best financial offer for IUK.
27:31So that's what's been reported.
27:34I don't know why we've got to go with this theory that was created on the radio
27:39versus what's actually been reported by credible people.
27:42I'll also say this. I guarantee you, if the same credible reporters reported the
27:49opposite. Our buddy Felger would be dry humping that report for the next five years
27:58about how, oh, well, did you see what Jocena Anderson tweeted about?
28:02There wasn't enough guaranteed money.
28:03Did you see what Matt Mayoco tweeted?
28:05Did you see what Bert Breer said?
28:07Did you see what Jeremy Fowler said?
28:09Unfortunately, our buddy Felger can't do that because those reports don't exist.
28:16What exists is they offer the most money.
28:19So, as he would say, fact, not opinion.
28:23The other thing I would say, you brought up second guesses.
28:25I think there are three.
28:26I tweeted this out just a few moments ago.
28:28You can follow me at Nixie Radio.
28:30I think there are three reasonable second guesses about Elliott Wolfe's offseason.
28:35The Ridley thing that Greg brought up, signing Chooks Accor for instead of Jonah
28:40Williams. I would let you know, by the way, that out in Arizona, they're not
28:44necessarily thrilled with Jonah Williams play at right tackle in the preseason at
28:48camp. He wasn't very good.
28:50So him and Chooks both kind of struggled.
28:53And the draft and the draft conversation with the context, and Greg has tweeted
28:58about this and wrote about this and talked about it, is you had an option.
29:02You could have traded the pick that ended up being Caden Wallace and the pick that
29:05ended up being Javon Baker to move up and draft Kingsley Suamata-Ia.
29:11But that stuff, to me, the Chooks, Jonah conversation and the draft conversation,
29:15if you want to be real about it, we don't know.
29:19Seven weeks, eight weeks down the road, if Wallace is the starting right tackle and
29:23Javon Baker within the next year or two.
29:25And I hate to say that people all year.
29:27Yes, I don't grade drafts or players out of drafts until like two years down the
29:31road, at least right.
29:32If Wallace ends up being a starting right tackle and Javon Baker ends up being a
29:36legitimate two or three receiver and Kingsley Suamata-Ia is OK at left tackle for
29:41Kansas City, that's the conversation.
29:44But to me, those are the three reasonable second guesses you can have the draft
29:48trading up Jonah versus Chooks and paying Ridley more money.
29:52And we'll see. I had no issue with Ridley.
29:55I had no issue not paying him as much as they would have had to to possibly get him.
29:59I was fine with what they did there.
30:01And we'll see how the offensive line unfolds and whether or not if it's a disaster
30:06and if it's bad, I'll be first in line to be yelling and screaming and criticizing
30:10Elliott Wolfe. All right, before we hang on one second, Nick, I want to add
30:16something on that. But first, let me tell people about game time.
30:19It's that time of year.
30:21You know, there's a chill in the air.
30:22It's football season.
30:23Love this time of year.
30:25And you got to get out to a football game, whether it's college football, pro football,
30:28high school, whatever.
30:31But if you if you want to go to a game, you got to check out game time.
30:35Game time has a new feature called Game Time Picks that makes getting tickets to your to
30:39see your favorite teams play even easier.
30:42Game Time Picks filter out the fluff to show you only incredible seats on incredible
30:46deals on great seats so you don't have to waste time searching through thousands of
30:50tickets. I love the all in pricing toggling this feature.
30:54I just did it before shows you the total up front with no surprise fees at checkout.
30:59I hate those freaking fees at the end when I'm trying to order tickets.
31:02It's like double the cost.
31:03You're like, what the hell? Now I can't even afford to go.
31:06And I love the seat views.
31:08Get a panoramic view from your seat in the app before you buy.
31:11This is a must for me.
31:13I need to know what I can see, whether it's a concert, whether it's a football game,
31:17baseball game. I need to know, especially at Fenway with, you know, polls and polls in the
31:23way and things like that. I was just checking the app for deals on Patriots tickets.
31:28And to me, it looks like if you want to go down Thursday night, you know, jets, metal
31:35lands. It's an easy drive down from up here.
31:37You might be in the metro area.
31:39Easy way. Some pretty good deals on there.
31:42I saw that you could get on the second deck at MetLife for all in around 200 bucks.
31:50And you definitely don't want to go to the third level because you don't know what kind of
31:53hooligans you're going to see up there at a night game at MetLife.
31:57So go go check out those deals.
31:59Take the guesswork out of buying tickets with Game Time.
32:02Download the Game Time app, create an account and use code CLNS for $20 off your first
32:07purchase. Terms apply.
32:09Again, create an account and redeem code CLNS for $20 off.
32:14Download Game Time today.
32:15What time is it? Game time.
32:17So on the personnel thing, one one thing I wanted to add.
32:21Well, two things. Number one, and you're a master at pronouncing Kingsley's name.
32:26It's Suwamatai.
32:29Yeah, whatever. So he's big Kingsley.
32:33By the way, I'm just I need to tweet this out.
32:35I need to take. All right.
32:36Who's going to be the first asshole who tweets at me when Kingsley gets either holding
32:43penalty, gives up a sack, goes offside, but nice, nice, nice trade up pick.
32:50What do you think about your boy now?
32:51All right. Like, can we just relax?
32:53He's a rookie starting his first game Thursday night against the Ravens.
32:57Like, it's not going to be perfect, but yeah, he would have been my guy.
33:00And this is not a recent second guess.
33:02And I haven't waited to hear how his training camp has gone.
33:05Two days after the draft, I said that I would have I would have drafted Drake May.
33:10I would have taken the Chargers trade down that picked up the fourth round pick.
33:14I would have stayed. I would not have come up for Xavier Worthy or anything else.
33:19I'll stay with Jalen Polk.
33:21And then then I would have traded the Wallace and Baker pick up for Kingsley.
33:26That's what I would have done.
33:27That was one of my big second guesses from the draft.
33:29And like Nick says, we'll see.
33:31And in general, that's what I just wanted to say.
33:34Look, I'm sure there are a lot of fans out there and I hear them calling in.
33:38I hear the talk show hosts and they're ripping Elliot Wolf and the front
33:41offers for not doing this and that.
33:43And it's, you know, it's dereliction of duty what they've done with the offensive line.
33:48And they might be right.
33:50OK, but and this is this is the way I always approach things.
33:53I approach things from these guys, whether it's Bill Belichick and Macro,
33:59Bill Belichick and Nick Casario, or now Elliot Wolf and Alonzo Highsmith
34:05and Pat Stewart and and Macro.
34:10You know, these guys are not dumb guys, OK?
34:13They have been at this, most of them, a very long time.
34:17They have a lot of experience in the league.
34:19I didn't see this myself, but I heard this.
34:21Apparently, the Athletic did some sort of poll about which GM's
34:25do you trust the most?
34:26And I think Elliot Wolf got the most the leading votes.
34:28It was only five.
34:29But from agents, agents saying, who's the GM's you trust the most?
34:34Which doesn't mean anything.
34:35It's just nice to hear.
34:37But the way I look at it is these guys are smart.
34:41They've done this a long time.
34:44They obviously thought through what they were doing personnel wise on this team.
34:49They definitely debated Chooksacore for or Jonah Williams.
34:54They entertained Tyron Smith or the alternative.
34:58And there's a reason why they made the decisions that they did.
35:02Some of it was probably monetary that they looked at the PFF grades.
35:06Even if you looked at those as lay people like us,
35:09Chooks was rated better by PFF than Jonah Williams last year.
35:13And Jonah Williams is getting, I don't know, double digit million dollars.
35:16And you score four is getting like five here.
35:19You know, so yeah, all those things come into play.
35:22You know, the bottom line for me is like, I'm not going to stomp my feet
35:26and, you know, throw a hissy fit.
35:29Until I actually see it on the field, we're going to know
35:32whether these moves moves work or not.
35:34But I think these guys are entitled to make their decisions,
35:37whether it's in the draft or free agency or what have you,
35:40to field a team this year that they think is competitive.
35:44And Elliott Wolfe thinks that they have the pieces on the offensive line
35:47to be competitive.
35:50A lot of people would say they don't.
35:51I'm not ready to say that yet.
35:52I am waiting for the season.
35:54And by the midpoint of the season, about there towards the end of the season,
35:58we'll all know whether they were right or wrong.
36:01But these guys aren't just sitting there pinching money
36:04and trying to field a bad football team.
36:06They tried to do the best with what they have and looking into the future
36:11as well in terms of let's not spend all our assets in one offseason.
36:16Well, let's you know, is it better?
36:18What do we use here?
36:19What's better next year is a good free agent class.
36:22What about the draft?
36:23They're looking at all this stuff.
36:24These guys are smart.
36:25Elliott Wolfe and Alonzo Highsmith have been waiting
36:28their whole careers to be put in this position,
36:30and they've done a lot of good work for a lot of years.
36:33And so my default with everybody, and it's not just Elliott Wolfe,
36:38who, yes, I covered with the Green Bay Packers and who I respect.
36:41But this is the same with Bill.
36:43Every year I'd be like, well, I don't really like what Bill's done,
36:46but Bill's earned the right.
36:48And so we'll see.
36:49And so that's sort of where I am going into the season and their personnel.
36:54I could not agree more.
36:55Just have one more question for you before we go.
36:57But before I get to that question, take the guesswork out of buying tickets
37:00with GameTime, download the GameTime app, create an account,
37:02use code CLNS for 20 bucks off your first purchase.
37:05Also, you want to check out our friends at PrizePix.
37:08Use code CLNS to get 50 bucks instantly when you play five dollars.
37:12That's 50 bucks instantly when you play five bucks.
37:15Don't even need to win to receive that 50 dollar bonus.
37:17Use the code CLNS.
37:19And don't forget about BSJ, 50 bucks for the year
37:22with the dart and already doing great work on the Patriots.
37:26My my final question for you before we bounce.
37:29Jamar Chase, Zach Taylor just spoke to the media.
37:33He was asked if Chase is going to practice today.
37:37He said, quote unquote, we'll see.
37:40Do you think do you think Jamar Chase plays on Sunday?
37:45I do not think that he plays.
37:48But I mean, I could totally be wrong, but I don't know.
37:51It looks like he's trying to make a stand.
37:53Now, I would not be surprised.
37:55Mike Brown has a history of this sort of giving in once the calendar
37:58turns to September and they sign him on, you know, Friday or Saturday.
38:04But I don't know.
38:05I mean, that would be really rough to throw him out there week one.
38:10I think that would not be a good idea.
38:12So I'm going to say I do not think he is playing week one.
38:16One more note for those Patriots fans who are into the throwback thing.
38:20The Patriots just announced they will have their throwbacks on week
38:23six and week 13. So make that note.
38:25Week six, week 13 throwback uniforms. Those two weeks.
38:28All right. He's Greg. I'm Nick.
38:30We'll talk to you later in the week about this Bengals game. See you.
