00:00:00It is caught! Touchdown!
00:00:04The New England Patriots select Drake May.
00:00:08He's got the ball! And that's the ball game!
00:00:12We are back for another episode of All 32. Mike Giardi, Will Parkinson alongside
00:00:16week three, almost in the books, although we do have the double dip
00:00:20on Monday Night Football, because, you know, they need to put two games on
00:00:24Monday Night Football as opposed to one. Not really quite sure why we do that, but they are, Will.
00:00:28Interesting week, as always, and we'll start, of course, with Patriots
00:00:32and Jets. Yeah, it was an interesting
00:00:36week. We're really in the thick of things now. I think the preseason
00:00:40nature of weeks one and two, the craziness maybe we saw last week,
00:00:44not so much this week, but we started it off with Jets-Pats
00:00:48and I thought, overall,
00:00:52that game, people thought it might have been closer
00:00:56because of the way the Pats started the season, the way the Jets obviously potentially started
00:01:00as well. Rodgers had looked solid, but not elite by any means.
00:01:04The Jets' defense had not played fully up to kind of what we expected, and the Patriots
00:01:08were kind of overachieving a little bit. It felt like they were like, wow, they're really well coached
00:01:12and they look pretty solid and they're not beating themselves, etc.
00:01:16A lot of injuries on both sides of the football for both teams, but
00:01:20if you told me that game ended 40-0, I think I
00:01:24would have probably, actually, if you just watched the film, didn't know the score,
00:01:28you probably would have assumed that's what happened. It was an ass-kicking
00:01:32and it's something we have not really seen in this rivalry
00:01:36from the Jets' perspective to the Patriots, especially at home
00:01:40in quite some time, so it was a lot. If you're a Patriots fan, you would not
00:01:44believe that game happened. If you're a Jets fan, you were ecstatic.
00:01:48The last four days, you've been throwing a party. Yeah, I have noticed some of the
00:01:52Jet fans in my life celebrating quite a bit. Big smiles on their face. A reminder,
00:01:56this show brought to you by PrizePix, the exclusive daily fantasy partner of the
00:02:00CLNS Media Network. In game time, best tickets, best prices to get
00:02:04you into any event that you want to see. Will and I use them both.
00:02:08Love them both. Yeah, first of all, let's just say this.
00:02:12Aaron Rodgers, after not really looking
00:02:16like Aaron Rodgers for two games, which, look, made a lot of sense in the sense that he
00:02:20hadn't played in a year. We had four regular season snaps last year before he snaps the Achilles,
00:02:24but he hadn't completed a pass outside the tackle box in the first two games.
00:02:28I'd say, what, about six of those happened in the first half
00:02:32of game three? And look, some of that is
00:02:36poor discipline by the Patriots. I mean, as Trav Mayo told us, we're taping this on
00:02:40Monday afternoon. I spoke to Mayo this morning, and he was like, well, you know, that was
00:02:44like the last reminder we gave the players before we went out on the field was, like, make sure you keep Rodgers
00:02:48in the pocket. They did not do that. And then when he got outside the pocket,
00:02:52of course, he was getting out there, keeping his eyes downfield, looking to push the ball
00:02:56down the field, but was not afraid to take off and run. So that is a
00:03:00should put a big smile on the faces of a lot of
00:03:04Jets people, because that's the kind of thing that you brought him here for,
00:03:08to be able to create plays off schedule and do those sorts of things.
00:03:12Flip side, about as putrid a tackling game
00:03:16as I can remember the Patriots having, and for a team that prides itself on being tough and
00:03:20physical, this was the absolute opposite of that. They got their ass kicked,
00:03:24and fundamentally, simple things like wrapping and tackling
00:03:28could not do. Brees Hall, Braylon Allen,
00:03:32but Allen Lazard, Conklin, like, how many missed tackles were there?
00:03:36You know, the broadcast, the next-gen stats had 14 for
00:03:40100 yards extra off of those missed tackles, Will.
00:03:44And would it have mattered? Probably not. Again, like you mentioned, it was a lopsided
00:03:48game, pretty much from jump, but that's the kind of thing that when you're talent
00:03:52deficient, like the Patriots are, if you're going to play like that on defense,
00:03:56you got no shot. Yeah, look, a couple things.
00:04:00Rodgers, 5 of 5 for 62 yards outside the tackle box,
00:04:04throwing on the run, ran for 18 yards.
00:04:08The second play of the game, you kind of could tell what kind of game it was going to be. Rodgers moves around.
00:04:12I believe he ran for 2 or 3 yards. Didn't seem like anything
00:04:16crazy, but I talked a lot about this, and I've talked about this on
00:04:20myself, and we talked about this kind of going into the game, that Rodgers, as
00:04:24camp kind of went along, he felt more and more confident in the Achilles, more and
00:04:28more confident in getting hit, throwing on the run. By the end of camp, you were
00:04:32like, by the reason I had the Jets, I think what happened was the two-seed
00:04:36was because of what I saw in Rodgers, specifically the last two weeks of camp.
00:04:40And the first two weeks, I felt like he was accurate from the pocket.
00:04:44EPA per play-wise was good, and some of the efficiency, they're scoring
00:04:48touchdowns, but he kind of looks like a little skittish.
00:04:52I think it's safe to say. I think he didn't trust it at all.
00:04:56There was the one play, and I'm going to keep coming back to this if the Jets progressed nicely
00:05:00throughout the year. Late in the second or third quarter of
00:05:04the Titans game, Rodgers runs out. First time he had broken the pocket
00:05:08really at all through the first six, seven quarters. Jeffrey Simmons hits him on the
00:05:12sideline. Borderline, Mahomes might get the call,
00:05:16but other than that, no one really gets that call. Rodgers kind of got up, and I'm like,
00:05:20it was fine, obviously. And I felt like he locked in and played much better
00:05:24the rest of that game. He came out free-flowing, body's now in rhythm.
00:05:28Mike, you know this. When you're out for a long time, this is going to happen to Christian
00:05:32Barmore next year. It's going to happen to Christian Gonzalez. It happens to anybody
00:05:36coming back from injury. It's physical, then it's mental, then it's like
00:05:40by week two, three, four, you start to now, you're like, now your body's used to
00:05:44getting hit again, and you're kind of just locked in in a different sense. Rodgers
00:05:48for such a long time last year was coming back from the injury, a lot of off-the-field
00:05:52stuff in terms of talking about different things. I talked about this on the Sixth Ring
00:05:56show, the guys from the Sixth Ring spot, and they said Rodgers looks really
00:06:00locked in. I said, this is the most locked in he's been as a Jet. He cut
00:06:04McAfee to 15 minutes last week. He cut his own
00:06:08availability down, and he was just like, oh, got to go win the football game. It was
00:06:12totally different Rodgers. That was locked in. Football is the number one priority
00:06:16and literally nothing else matters. He
00:06:20dissected them. I thought he played at maybe a 7.5 out of 10 of
00:06:24MVP level, but he was by far the best player in the field.
00:06:28I thought this was kind of what we were all interested to see if Rodgers
00:06:32could get back to. I felt like on the New England side of things,
00:06:36I felt like they got out-coached really bad, in my opinion at least. I
00:06:40thought the Jets' game plan was like, we're not letting Romandre
00:06:44Stevenson beat us, and we're going to blitz Jacoby Brissett. The Jets never blitz, ever.
00:06:48They were like, we're going to blitz, and the Patriots just never adjusted. There was no screens. There was no nothing.
00:06:52It was either drop back or pound Romandre off tackle one way or another.
00:06:56I believe until the last drive, I think they had less than 100 total
00:07:00yards of offense. I understand the injuries. I'm not trying to beat up on the Patriots here.
00:07:04Unfortunately, the way the NFL works, when you're not as talented and then
00:07:08the other team's playing really well and you're not, a short week, they're tired. It was a perfect
00:07:12spiral. I was disappointed from the Patriots' perspective
00:07:16that I felt like usually they're a really disciplined defense that
00:07:20tackles well. They're not going to beat themselves. Offensively,
00:07:24just doing just enough to keep yourself in the game. The Jets got up
00:07:28and it just felt like it was over. It was kind of a snooze fest if
00:07:32you were a fan of a neutral fan watching that game.
00:07:34Yeah, total bloodbath. You mentioned the plan. I did think they got absolutely
00:07:38outcoached. It was interesting to see the Jets sort of spread them out, and then
00:07:42it was up to Rodgers. Hey, what's the best matchup? Oh, it's Xavier
00:07:46Gibson, who's by nobody's stretch of imagination
00:07:50a great player, but he's on Jabril Peppers. Little tiny slot guy on Peppers.
00:07:54I'm going to take that matchup. Bam. First down. 12 yards. First down. Just those
00:07:58sorts of things throughout the course of the day. Every time he was able to do that, he found
00:08:02the weakness and he attacked it. Nine out of ten times they won that.
00:08:06Then from an offensive perspective, I hated the Patriots' plan.
00:08:10You mentioned the screens. Alex Van Pelt told us back in the spring,
00:08:14repeated it this summer. I think he's probably said it at some point here during the start of the regular
00:08:18season. We want to be one of the best screen teams in the league. Again, where were
00:08:22those screens? They were nowhere to be found.
00:08:26The Jets have struggled to stop the run. This is going back to last year. Some of that is game script.
00:08:30Obviously, when you're playing Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle and Trevor Simeon,
00:08:34you're in a hole and the other team's just going to turn around and run the ball, shorten the game.
00:08:38In the first two games of this season, gave up huge
00:08:42chunks of yardage on the ground. What's the one thing the Patriots do well? They run the football.
00:08:46They came out and they tried to throw the ball. I thought they telegraphed it all week.
00:08:50We've got to get explosives. We've got to push the ball down the field to our
00:08:54receivers who had already started to grumble. In particular, Pop Douglas. Got to get the ball to Pop Douglas.
00:08:58Great. Wonderful. Pop Douglas got some touches.
00:09:02Awesome. Fantastic. What was the final score again? 24-3. What happened
00:09:06to your run game? You didn't commit to it in the beginning. You committed to the pass.
00:09:10Seven of the first nine plays were pass plays. I think it was
00:09:14they sent such a weird message to their team. Again, I don't know that it would have made a difference
00:09:18because I think they just got outclassed physically. But hey,
00:09:22first two weeks, we won a game and we were leading in the game in the fourth quarter
00:09:26because we were able to control the clock and run the football.
00:09:30That's what we do. That is our identity as a football team. And then week three,
00:09:34yes, the Jets made adjustments to try to take away that, but you sort of helped them
00:09:38by just not doing it in the beginning. And then you created a negative game
00:09:42script for yourself, which you cannot do with what you have in the offensive
00:09:46line, what you have at receiver, which again, a lot of unproven guys are guys
00:09:50that just, they're not. They're not what they think they are. They're not what people
00:09:54think they are. And it just, it was a disaster from that standpoint. And so
00:09:58they've got 10 days, or we're already into the week, but they had 10 days
00:10:02now to sort of get ready for San Francisco. And the plan's got to be a hell of a lot
00:10:06better than that, because that was an absolute debacle. At the end of that game,
00:10:10we saw Drake May, which I think was expected.
00:10:14When there were going to be opportunities to get him into games, lopsided one way or
00:10:18the other, probably not going to be lopsided in your favor too often this year. But in
00:10:22this case, and Will, I'm glad he got the work
00:10:26because again, it's all about progress and getting the experiences,
00:10:30but nearly threw an interception on the first play,
00:10:34bailed out of the pocket on the second play, was not seeing it like
00:10:38he needs to see it. And yeah, there were a couple of really nice plays. The play to pop
00:10:42was a nice play, a good chunk play that I don't know if Percet makes
00:10:46that play. So you've got that sort of capability, but by and large
00:10:50really uneven. And again, good for him to go back
00:10:54and look at and study, but the footwork stuff was already,
00:10:58and Van Pelt mentioned it on Friday when we talked to him in a conference call, like, yeah, some of the
00:11:02things that we've been trying to coach out of him, they showed up. Which, as you know,
00:11:06makes sense, because you can talk all you want about fixing mechanics,
00:11:10but when the thing gets real, and guys are running to try to take your head
00:11:14off, what do you do? You revert to what you've done your whole career.
00:11:18Footwork, how you throw the ball, the entire thing. So
00:11:22there's a lot to clean up there, and I don't know what you felt about it, but to me,
00:11:26he's going to play at some point this year. He's going to be your starting quarterback.
00:11:30But I am pushing that as far into the future
00:11:34as I possibly can. I thought week five, and maybe they still think week five.
00:11:38I don't think week five. I think this team is not ready for him, and I don't think he's ready
00:11:42for it either. So it's week eight, week nine, week ten, whatever it
00:11:46is, that's where I'd want to push this thing, not in the immediate here
00:11:50and now. Yeah, well, I don't think this week's the week to do it.
00:11:54Jacoby's been taking a beating, and just one thing on the screen game, like the Jets have,
00:11:58the one thing they've not done a great job of this year is defending the screen game. Tennessee, they
00:12:02didn't do a great job. They adjusted in the second half, but I felt like just
00:12:06to keep them honest, the first pass Drake made through, I mean,
00:12:10I talked to Michael Carter after the game about it, and he was like, I cannot believe I didn't catch that.
00:12:14That was a pick six house call all day long, and it's fine.
00:12:18Maybe it would have been better if it honestly got picked off just from the aspect of like, alright, dude,
00:12:22you threw an interception, who cares? You saw the reason why he's
00:12:26not playing, and it's because the offensive line right now is not sustainable,
00:12:30and again, it's a really good Jets defense, and they'll get really good San Francisco defense,
00:12:34or it's hard to know what San Francisco is week to week right now,
00:12:38but generally speaking, a really good defense, so those probably aren't the spots, but
00:12:42he takes a huge hit from Sherwood. The interaction
00:12:46with Rodgers is cool after the game, especially if you're a Jets fan or a Packers fan or whatever, you like Rodgers.
00:12:50He's like, I'm waiting for the goat, and I'm sure that probably didn't go over well with Patriots fans,
00:12:54but hey, man, listen, Rodgers is the most talented
00:12:58thrower in the football of all time, and it's okay if he likes Rodgers. Not everyone has to
00:13:02love Brady as much as he's obviously the actual goat, but
00:13:06I'm interested to see how they handle this with
00:13:10May, because if it's about getting people back healthy
00:13:14on the offensive line, hey, is that week five, week six, week seven?
00:13:18We're circling this date. I think I mentioned week eight
00:13:22or week nine in our preview show, because I felt like if you get them eight starts,
00:13:26that's a good enough sample size to have some idea of what you know you're going into
00:13:30next year. I'd like to see more than eight starts,
00:13:34preferably just because I feel like the quarterback plays so bad around the league.
00:13:38I just think this works in the Patriots' advantage right now. Caleb's
00:13:42generational prospect, really bad offensive line, not such a good offensive coordinator,
00:13:46which is what I would describe the Patriots as, and
00:13:50people are already souring on Caleb, he's not good, etc.
00:13:54Anthony Richardson, elite offensive line, elite offensive coordinator,
00:13:58and looks horrible. All these young quarterbacks,
00:14:02the quarterback play around the league is terrible right now. I don't know if it's ever been
00:14:06in a worse spot than it is this week, going into this week. They just had the first
00:14:10300-yard passer and three-touchdown passer at the end of week three.
00:14:14That's not something we've experienced.
00:14:18Drake May showed some good stuff. He showed some bad stuff. It's limited action. I still am
00:14:22very confused as to leaving timeouts on the board when you're going to bring Drake May in.
00:14:26If that was Perced in the game, I totally understand. Dude, let's just get out of here.
00:14:30We cannot afford any other injuries. We don't need less confidence going to San Francisco
00:14:34and Miami. Get out of here. Get out of Dodge.
00:14:38If you're going to bring Drake May in the game, those are valuable
00:14:42reps. That switches from garbage
00:14:46tape to this is the most important tape we will watch all week.
00:14:50You could have probably gotten three-ish
00:14:54plays, maybe more. Those are three valuable reps that
00:14:58to me, I just felt like it doesn't really matter. No, obviously,
00:15:02it's not the biggest deal in the world. Wouldn't it have been nice if you were already down there
00:15:06and called a couple of timeouts? Hey, Drake May, this is what the red zone in the NFL looks like
00:15:10in a regular season game versus starters. You don't really get that.
00:15:14I just felt like that's just an opportunity wasted. Then it makes me think
00:15:18I hope this week, and again, you know much better than me,
00:15:22I hope this week, the last three to four days during that mini-buy, you get
00:15:26the Patriots, Brass, Mayo, Van Pelt, front
00:15:30office, ownership, everyone sat down and said, what is our exact plan
00:15:34and let's all get in line and sync with the games. At this point,
00:15:38he's coming in. If it gets to this point, he's not coming in. Just
00:15:42reestablish, regroup. It's been three weeks, some good, some bad, etc. Now, let's
00:15:46regroup. Let's make sure we're all on the same page for a plan because
00:15:50the last thing you need right now is to kind of either trot him out there too early
00:15:54with no plan or almost way too long. I still think to myself,
00:15:58he needs to have at least eight starts this year. I think to feel sufficient about
00:16:02going to next year knowing we kind of know what we have a little bit.
00:16:06Less than that feels like it's not going to be good. Starting this week's not going to make sense
00:16:10either. Part of what not calling the timeouts to me was
00:16:14a signal that we're afraid we're going to get him killed and he took a couple of shots.
00:16:18I think it was just sort of like we got him someplace and let's get out here
00:16:22so that he doesn't separate his shoulder and we don't have to then worry about that part
00:16:26of the equation.
00:16:30It's
00:16:3470-30 practice reps, which I think if you talk to a lot of backup quarterbacks, starting quarterbacks,
00:16:38that's uncommon. Normally, the starter gets 90-95% of
00:16:42the reps. The rationale, I think Albert Breer was explaining it
00:16:46the other day, was that, well, Brissette's been with Van Pelt,
00:16:50so he knows the offense. There are certain things that he knows
00:16:54that it's like, well, he doesn't really need to rep this. When that's the case, he taps
00:16:58out. Drake comes in. You're getting Drake some more valuable reps in practice
00:17:02that he normally would get in a situation where other backups, again, are just
00:17:06twiddling their thumbs behind the scenes and just trying to get the mental reps but not getting
00:17:10the physical reps. It's interesting, but yeah, I can't
00:17:14imagine that he starts this week and now I wonder. Miami was the game I
00:17:18had circled for Week 5 and now I wonder if that even makes any sense. Let's take

00:17:42somebody, Mike Giardi maybe, said
00:17:46more than a half an
00:17:50interception for CJ Stroud. Bing, bing, bing.
00:17:54Got it. Might have said more on over 48.5
00:17:58yards for Aubrey, the kicker for the Cowboys.
00:18:02Bingo. That's the kind of stuff you do. Then you got money in your account and you're feeling

00:18:26The game I was excited about was the Philadelphia and the Saints game.
00:18:30Both teams, obviously Philly's been a bit of a rollercoaster and we're
00:18:34interested to see how that whole thing shakes out after the 10-1 start last year.
00:18:38They certainly tanked. Then New Orleans, who's looked like the best team in football
00:18:42through two weeks. Philly goes down to New Orleans and
00:18:46survives 15-12. I thought,
00:18:50watching this game, that looked more like the Philadelphia
00:18:54defense from two years ago that got after quarterbacks,
00:18:58made life hell on quarterbacks, but also stout against the run.
00:19:02Kamara had come in. They were running the hell out of the ball. Kamara averaged 3.3 yards per
00:19:06carry. That's generally not going to get it done and that's in part why they finished
00:19:10with just 12 points.
00:19:14I'm on most of the same page with you. If I'm a Philly fan,
00:19:18I'm leaving yesterday extremely concerned.
00:19:22I'm interested to hear what you said because I do have a double-starred
00:19:26issue here for Philadelphia. I'm not going to hit on the Sirianni thing yet.
00:19:30I think that's a huge issue and I think that's probably what you have starred and the fourth down stuff
00:19:34is a disaster. Their injury, they're a really awesome roster.
00:19:38I think there's been no doubt about that. Devontae Smith,
00:19:42that hit was nasty. I don't
00:19:46know that it was the dirtiest hit I've ever seen. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson says a lot of things sometimes
00:19:50and yesterday gets the first down and celebrating because he thought he got a stop
00:19:54and it's like five yards past the line. I was like, dude, just relax for two
00:19:58seconds. Something. Jordan Davis
00:20:02finally showed up yesterday. The guy that we saw at the beginning of last year where
00:20:06as you mentioned two years ago and beginning of last year was like this Philly defense
00:20:10hit the hell out of the quarterback. Kind of covered up a lot on the
00:20:14back end. Darius Slade is good. Not the player he used to be. Some of those young guys and all that
00:20:18stuff. They were good at defense yesterday. I'm not taking anything away.
00:20:22Derek Carr reverted back to this is what I meant about
00:20:26the preseason and this is why it's really hard week one and week two because
00:20:30if you just come out and you guys are more in a rhythm than the other team and you're more ready to go
00:20:34you can steal a one or two and Derek Carr is playing good football but we know when Derek
00:20:38Carr feels any semblance of pressure and I mean any semblance
00:20:42craters. He can't throw the football. It's bad decision after bad decisions
00:20:46why he got booted off the Superdome turf at the end of last year.
00:20:50Philly defense was really good. I still think there's like two or three levels to them that
00:20:54we haven't seen yet. I still don't get the hiring of Fangio because I feel like he doesn't
00:20:58play any of these guys in the positions that they're best suited for. He's got Nolan Smith
00:21:02rushing in defensive tackle. He's got Bryce Huff standing up rushing inside.
00:21:06Rushing from like a five or a seven as opposed to he's literally a wide nine hand in the dirt edge player.
00:21:10Like it's clear as day. All that stuff being said
00:21:14they played really well yesterday so I want to give them their defense credit.
00:21:18Jalen Hurts turns the ball over all the time. He doesn't take care of the ball
00:21:22at all and this is now a trend over I think like 20 or so games.
00:21:26This is not a new thing. The first 20 or so starts if I'm not mistaken
00:21:30is like he had like six turnovers and something like that.
00:21:34In the last he's like 26. He's the most turnovers in the NFL since the start of last year.
00:21:38Something you would never know about. Usually he's always Josh Allen because the high variance.
00:21:42He runs the football a lot. Hurts, the fumbling, the interceptions.
00:21:46DeMonte Smith probably out for a week or two I would assume. I mean that was a nasty concussion.
00:21:50We don't know really what about AJ Brown. Beckton's already hurt.
00:21:54Johnson's hurt. It feels like when things around
00:21:58Jalen Hurts get very muddy and he doesn't have Brown and DeMonte
00:22:02playing at their top peak
00:22:06he forces a lot. He holds the ball a lot and I'm just worried if I'm an Eagles fan
00:22:10going our schedule is easy. I looked at it this morning and I'm going
00:22:14they're not going to lose until December and we're going to have the same conversation of like
00:22:18they're 11-1 but nobody thinks they're that good. That's where I'm concerned if I'm an Eagles
00:22:22fan going. I don't trust the coach. I don't trust our defensive coordinator.
00:22:26I probably don't trust our offensive coordinator. I'm not sure I trust our quarterback.
00:22:30But hey, our roster's awesome. But other than that, everything's great.
00:22:34Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the show? But seriously, it's crazy if you really just
00:22:38think about it. I could make a serious argument that they will not lose until that
00:22:42potentially that Ravens game December 1st and I still am not sure anything
00:22:46they do in the next eight weeks is going to change my opinion on that because
00:22:50I know them playing. I guess they have the Dallas game. But other than that, it's like Giants, Washington,
00:22:54New England. It's not
00:22:58hard to get. My point just being Saquon was awesome
00:23:02yesterday. I thought he won them the football game. I thought Jordan Davis and Saquon
00:23:06together, the whole thing and the Saints looked exactly like what we all kind of
00:23:10thought they were. Really solid defense, veteran group who's going to bend, not
00:23:14break and then offensively what they were.
00:23:18The Sirianni thing to me is so concerning that
00:23:22it so outshines a really good, they went into an undefeated
00:23:26team on the road coming off a bad loss and got a win. Good for the Eagles.
00:23:30But I also look at the flip side and I'm like there's no way they should have won that game
00:23:34and it should have been over already. Yeah, did you even hear him at
00:23:38the post game? They played the clip on Football Night America. I didn't hear it, no.
00:23:42No, talking about we have to have each other's backs and sometimes you're not going
00:23:46to play that great, but the guy next to you and guys around you, they play well that can pick you up.
00:23:50You know, offense doesn't play well, defense plays, you know, that sort of thing. And he said sometimes
00:23:54your coach doesn't make the right decisions. Hello, two fourth down
00:23:58attempts passing up points on one of them and then a 60 yard field goal
00:24:02attempt, which oh by the way, they miss and then New Orleans goes down and takes the lead
00:24:06and then it's up to Saquon to bail you out at the end of the game and win the game.
00:24:10So that's three and look, you can hit me with the
00:24:14analytics all you want, but like your team is struggling to score
00:24:18points. Take some points. Sometimes it's just good. Hey, we escaped. We got three points.
00:24:22It would have been over. Yep, didn't do it and he has been a mess
00:24:26all season long and that specter of Bill Belichick
00:24:30or whomever else is looming with Howie Roseman, the general manager
00:24:34and ownership there. That's not going away even after, as you mentioned, a nice win like
00:24:38they should be feeling pretty good about going into a place that was
00:24:42it's very difficult to play. They were incredibly loud yesterday. New Orleans is playing
00:24:46great football coming in and instead it's like, but
00:24:50boy, the quarterback and but boy, the coach and like boy, the way the
00:24:54coaches are coaching. Some of this stuff doesn't make a lot of sense and I just
00:24:58it's it should be a better day for them in Philadelphia, but they're going to
00:25:02get a lot of crap 1312.
00:25:06I'm not. I love when people go forth and forth down. I love
00:25:10being aggressive as a coach and all this stuff. But like
00:25:14I don't know last year and Dan Campbell got a ton of heat for Nancy title game, but
00:25:18even then, like they did, the kicker was untrustworthy. They kind of made sense.
00:25:22You're on the road and MC title game. You feel like this is your this is your shot. You're a year
00:25:26early. The whole thing like you can really make. I don't know not me.
00:25:30It felt like he felt more yesterday in the last two weeks more
00:25:34Brandon Staley ish than like than a Campbell or
00:25:38when he goes for when he's like, hey, I'm on the road. I'm going for two to win the game. I don't want to
00:25:42over time is not going to cut it. I can't sacrifice my guys like there's no reasoning. It's just like
00:25:46F it. I don't know. We'll probably get it. We're all run the football. You
00:25:50have this big offensive line run the bullet on one of these like it's just that there's no
00:25:54it's just like man. Okay. Well, we'll do this today. Well tomorrow. We'll do this
00:25:58and what are you doing and also one of their huge advantages right was the
00:26:02push and not having Kelsey, which is one of the you know, we talked about this. I think
00:26:06of the preview show like one of the stories that wasn't being
00:26:10talked about enough. What do they do in fourth and short? They didn't run the
00:26:14tush. They try to get cute with it. Like they wouldn't have got cute with it last year. They would
00:26:18have said what was it 24 of 26 or 23 of 25
00:26:22last year like we're going to do this because you can't stop it and we hit 90
00:26:26something percent percent success rate versus trying to get cute
00:26:30in that instance like again just speaks to the difference in
00:26:34in the team and how it's built now and the level of confidence they had that was
00:26:38as unstoppable play as it was the National Football League last year. No matter
00:26:42what you want to say it. It's only one yard two yards three yards, whatever like to have that in your
00:26:46back pocket and in short yardage situations is awesome and they feel
00:26:50like they don't have it already and that's that would be you can tell they don't you can tell
00:26:54they know they don't have it too. That's the scary part. Absolutely. All right, let's move on to
00:26:58I think probably the biggest
00:27:02surprise of the day not because of who won but
00:27:06how decisively they won and that's the Vikings hosting the Texans
00:27:10and absolutely kicking the living crap out of them 34 to 7
00:27:14and it was much like the Patriots game. We talk about you know was it as close
00:27:18no that that like it could have been a lot worse than that
00:27:22the job. I feels like I'm going to be this is the third week in a row. I've said it
00:27:26the job that Kevin O'Connell who obviously the head coach but also calling
00:27:30the plays and Brian Flores the defensive coordinator are doing right now
00:27:34is better than anybody in the league that one two punch there. I mean absolutely
00:27:38a panting of Flores to Bobby Slowick and that
00:27:42Texans offense led by CJ Stroud turned him over twice sacked him
00:27:46three times blitzed him 43% of the time out of 44%
00:27:50pressure rate like he never was comfortable for someone who is
00:27:54so poised and so cool not comfortable at all in this game
00:27:58Vikings are just playing tremendous football and then
00:28:02what O'Connell's done with Sam Darnold you know like again
00:28:06TJ Hawkins is not playing he's still out Jordan Addison's missing again
00:28:10this week and they still scored 34 and Justin Jefferson was dealing
00:28:14with a quad injury and then hurt his finger and to put up 34 points and have
00:28:18Sam throw four touchdowns like I mean if we
00:28:22stop the season here Sam's the MVP O'Connell's coach
00:28:26of the year the assistant of the year is Flores like just give him all the
00:28:30flowers because at this point in 3-0 they deserve every single one of them.
00:28:34Yeah so a couple things one I was I think probably unreasonably
00:28:38high on the Vikings and said I feel like their ceiling was a lot higher than
00:28:42yeah yeah you liked them better than I did yeah I just I thought they were like
00:28:46they're somewhere between a 7 and a 9 win team I still think ultimately we
00:28:50land in that 8-ish win range maybe they sneak in as like the 7th seed
00:28:54I still think that I don't I don't think I've my view on them
00:28:58has changed per se I think there's going to be a lot of questions about quarterback
00:29:02in terms of next year kind of quarterback
00:29:06that we'll get to if Sam continues to play this way he's the leader for MVP right now in the league
00:29:10like yep they're three weeks and I actually don't know it's particularly close
00:29:14Sam's always been talented no question about it
00:29:18he's always had moments I think the difference when you look at the quarterbacks of
00:29:22the Sam Darnold Baker Mayfield level bust
00:29:26quote-unquote or the Tannahills etc that have like been high
00:29:30top 10 picks that have kind of gone other places and had success
00:29:34there was always moments or stretch it for six weeks stretches they looked awesome and it was
00:29:38kind of cleaning up talent around them coaching staff there's always a lot
00:29:42of injuries there's always different things whereas you look at a Carolina
00:29:46with Bryce Young or Zach Wilson with the Jets or Trey Lance etc there was never really like
00:29:50it's felt like at least with Bryce obviously he's only 18 starts or Zach
00:29:54the moments were far and few between
00:29:58they were not as bad a situation whatever there's always like it didn't feel the same
00:30:02with Sam it felt like you know Baker went to LA
00:30:06with McVay for a short period and kind of felt like he cleaned a lot of stuff up
00:30:10Sam went out to San Francisco with Kyle for a year
00:30:14and I feel like he's cleaned up a lot of mechanics he's keeping his eyes downfield again
00:30:18something he got away from at the end of his time with the Jets and obviously in Carolina
00:30:22even though he had some nice moments there I think he's playing really good
00:30:26football like point blank playing really good football he's knowing
00:30:30he knows Aaron Jones and Justin Jefferson will make me right
00:30:34I don't have to do too much and if I just
00:30:38do what I'm told and I can just use my brain a little bit
00:30:42like he had one play yesterday right before he had the touchdown that he almost
00:30:46leveled this one and whatever and you could tell it was like oh man
00:30:50two or three years ago it's bad but he knew
00:30:54like I got to throw it here and he did just enough to correct an error
00:30:58so Minnesota defensively has been awesome that crowd yesterday was
00:31:02fantastic I think they're
00:31:06again they're a team that am I going to pick Green Bay this week I don't know
00:31:10that I'm going to pick Green Bay this week I don't know warmer weather in Lambeau like why can't
00:31:14I just go in there and start four now like the Vikings fans are probably thinking can I win one of these next
00:31:18two can I get one from the Jets or one from Green Bay you'd obviously like the Green Bay game
00:31:22more for rivalry reasons conference division etc keep
00:31:26stacking wins and I'm curious what week we'll have
00:31:30the conversation if Sam plays even 80% of what he's playing
00:31:34what the conversation is next year quarterback for them because at some
00:31:38point it's going to come up and I'm not trying to be hyperbolic and the whole like
00:31:42you know oh I got to trade you AJ McCarthy but like I'm not saying
00:31:46that at all I'm just saying Sam's 27 years old and if he ends up having
00:31:50the kind of year you think and he turns into your Geno Smith reclamation etc like
00:31:54it's going to be hard to kind of move on from it for nothing so it's just an
00:31:58interesting conversation it'll be something for down the line on the Houston side of things
00:32:02I'm my concern meters at like a 3 out of 10 but there's a little
00:32:06bit of concern I don't feel like there's been a couple
00:32:10of games now and look CJ Stroud's allowed to struggle like I'm not
00:32:14saying he's not right I will say
00:32:18they didn't beat a lot of really good they've not played in or even really beaten a lot of good teams in his
00:32:22whatever 19 starts now I guess or 18 starts
00:32:26this looked a lot like the Jets and the Ravens games of last
00:32:30year where like they just the whole team looked overmatched it was
00:32:34mental errors it was receivers not on their game Stroud not great
00:32:38getting hit a lot Laramie Thompson's got 10 penalties in three games
00:32:42Stroud's amazing and I'm not saying he's not a top
00:32:46five guy for sure and all that stuff. Why do you hate CJ Stroud? I hate CJ Stroud so much
00:32:50I just look yesterday he wasn't good and I just
00:32:54you know the games and he's gotten sacked a lot like that
00:32:58if Stroud I'm looking at the numbers here if he gets sacked four times or more
00:33:02he's
00:33:06they're two and five two and six like the key is to hit him and get him on the
00:33:10ground four plus times and you'll probably beat Houston I just
00:33:14I look at Houston as like I think they're going to be really good I think they're going to probably walk
00:33:18away with this division quite easily Tennessee looks horrible which is what me and you both thought
00:33:22especially from a quarterback perspective we'll see Jacksonville tonight but
00:33:26Trevor Lawrence doesn't want to start since November and
00:33:30Indy is we'll get to Anthony Richardson
00:33:34to me it's like there is the team that I think of the four
00:33:38division leaders at the moment they're the team I think I
00:33:42I've been the least impressed with of the four of Pittsburgh offensively is a mess
00:33:46whatever but my point just being I don't know about Stroud or anything like that I just yesterday
00:33:50was like ugh that was is it one game or is it a chant?
00:33:54Well let me give you this and I think it started in the post season last
00:33:58year the Baltimore game Bobby Slowick who is
00:34:02everybody's favorite you know he I think he had five interviews for head coaching
00:34:06jobs it was a lot yeah and like again if they have
00:34:10a good year in their playoff team Bobby Slowick is going to get a head coaching job this year if he wants one
00:34:14unless he pulls a Ben Johnson yes
00:34:18he is not I don't think he's
00:34:22done a very good job of acquitting himself and I think he's put his quarterback at times in difficult
00:34:26situations look part of that is they're also I think having some offensive line
00:34:30problems and not having any kind of running game yesterday at all
00:34:34contributed to that also not having Nixon who's obviously been off to a good start
00:34:38not sure when he's going to come back in terms of that injury the tackle
00:34:42was a little bit dirty that knocked him out but I'm just I've got him on my
00:34:46watch list Bobby Slowick I didn't like how the last season
00:34:50ended and you got all your interviews and now I don't like the way your
00:34:54offense looks even though again they put up some big numbers in the first couple weeks and
00:34:58you know Stroud's counting numbers were fantastic the first couple weeks but as
00:35:02you mentioned I think last week put a couple in harm's way and
00:35:06should have been picked and wasn't and then this game he does get picked off a couple times
00:35:10the first two that he's thrown this season so it's just something for me that I filed
00:35:14away and I will continue to watch to see if Slowick is
00:35:18the actual genius it's not a concern level that's bad or anything like that no it just
00:35:22the Eagles won on much higher on just because I think they're not like
00:35:26unless they're going to fire Sirianni like that I don't know when that's getting fixed
00:35:30the Texans again they're a good team and I think they're going to cakewalk to this division
00:35:34no way but their expectations are now with the quarterback and rookie contract
00:35:38that everyone told me is a top five guy no matter what and this amazing roster
00:35:42most of those things are probably true I'm just saying their expectations
00:35:46similar to Philly and these other teams the way we talk about them is
00:35:50because their expectation is to go to the title and to take the next step and I don't know
00:35:54that I've been overly impressed with Houston it's three weeks
00:35:58I'm just not like wow this is so much better than last year
00:36:02all this talent they've infused it's like alright they kind of got by the Colts
00:36:06and beat up Caleb a little bit and then it's like they
00:36:10go on the road and it didn't look great so
00:36:14that's just a little take back from Houston
00:36:18it's always a lot different when you are
00:36:22yes it is now that game matters before last year
00:36:26yes I know every week is hard to win in the league everybody tells you that and it's fair
00:36:30because you see the results every week and you say how did that team win how did Denver beat Tampa
00:36:34yesterday the way they were playing well they did that's what this league is all about
00:36:38but that game now is a game that teams star and they circle and they say
00:36:42okay they think everybody thinks they're the cat's meow
00:36:46let's go show them that we're pretty good too
00:36:50Miami was one of those teams and I tell you what and look injury has been a big part
00:36:54of this but I thought Miami was going to get off to their usual fast start
00:36:58well they got stomped in Seattle yesterday 24-3 they're now 1-2 on the year
00:37:02we know about the two injury we know he's not eligible to come back because of the way
00:37:06their schedules plays out until week 8 because they have a buy in there
00:37:10so you're not seeing him for a while he's on IR
00:37:14Skyler Thompson ends up getting his ribs hurt or chest whatever they're calling it
00:37:18he has to leave the game and they have to go to your old buddy Tim Boyle
00:37:22who was just signed like three days ago and obviously that went as you would expect
00:37:26limited dealings with the playbook limited dealings with the personnel
00:37:30probably got very few reps in there and it was a disaster they put up
00:37:34three points in that game but it's hard for me
00:37:38not to look at them and say they're in trouble
00:37:42you got multiple weeks at least without Tua and that's assuming
00:37:46he comes back which is the word on the street that he wants to come back
00:37:50as you and I discussed that's his choice not going to litigate that
00:37:54but you're 1-12 on third downs
00:37:58you're averaging just a little over 3 yards per carry with all that speed all that you've
00:38:02invested in there you decided that you wanted your offensive line to basically stay the same
00:38:06Aaron Brewer is the one sort of change for Connor Williams, Williams is in Seattle
00:38:10they bring in Brewer to play center
00:38:14the offensive line is not playing very well they haven't looked good at any point
00:38:18this season they got curb stomped by Buffalo and it was going that way before Tua
00:38:22got the concussion in week one it took Tyreek Hill somehow
00:38:26managing to stay in bounds on that ADR touchdown pass where
00:38:30again if you go back and look at it it was like the matrix the way he was running it's I don't know how he
00:38:34kept his feet in bounds and was able to go so it could easily be 0-3 they're 1-2
00:38:38and I just what kind of answers Tyler Huntley's probably
00:38:42going to be the guy who starts this week if Thompson can't go
00:38:46I know he was a Pro Bowl quarterback with two touchdown passes a few years ago
00:38:50that's just I don't know man
00:38:54if I'm a Miami fan I had them making the playoffs
00:38:58again with the injuries you can't project any of that stuff
00:39:02looking a little dicey for them right now they might be at a serious inflection
00:39:06point already here in September. Everyone told me I was crazy about the
00:39:10Mac Jones thing if Mac Jones was a team starting quarterback over the next three weeks you'd probably pick them
00:39:14to win two if not three of those games. I'm just being honest you would.
00:39:18They have not looked good at any point this year as you mentioned they had a really nice late third
00:39:22early fourth quarter against Jacksonville for sure
00:39:26I guess can't take that away. Other than that
00:39:30the defense I guess. We're talking about one and a half out of twelve quarters
00:39:34that's what we're talking about. And against a Jacksonville team that's not that great
00:39:38I struggle with Miami
00:39:42because I felt like going into the year I think I picked them if I'm not mistaken I picked them to win nine games
00:39:46and just narrowly missed the playoffs and I was with two
00:39:50I just felt like this roster is kind of it's hard to figure out
00:39:54they're not a cold weather team and stuff and I felt like they lost stuff defensively. I don't feel like they've been horrible
00:39:58on defense this year but they haven't been special either
00:40:02they're kind of like a middleweight defense probably maybe are they like the 18th best defense in the league
00:40:06or 16th best which is fine and if their offense was performing at
00:40:10peak levels with Tua and Tyreek and Waddle and A-Chain and all that stuff
00:40:1416th best defense is more than fine enough to get you in the playoffs and
00:40:18take care of business and get better as the season goes on with Phillips and these guys getting healthy
00:40:22Offensively the problem is that this offense
00:40:26is so reliant on those big
00:40:30two receivers and obviously the run game and the offensive line is a mess
00:40:34as you mentioned native quarterback was average level
00:40:38quarterback play they're just in a really bad
00:40:42spot in this sense to me and it's not that the season's not over they're one and two
00:40:46it's okay but if they do not take at least
00:40:50two of the next three to me then the season pretty much will in turn be over
00:40:54because part of this whole thing with the Dolphins and you referenced it earlier
00:40:58was them getting off to a fast start knowing what's coming at the
00:41:02end of the season. The next three weeks hosting Tennessee
00:41:06I think if you go out there no matter the quarterback
00:41:10play you think you have a chance against Tennessee at home for sure I think that's a winnable game
00:41:14nighttime in Miami the whole nine yards they go up to New England
00:41:18that's a 50-50 game I think even with a backup quarterback just because
00:41:22I think they're more talented than New England they've played New England really well
00:41:26hey could you steal at least one if not two of those because then they get
00:41:30India on the road which looks not quite as hard of a game
00:41:34I guess as we might have thought and then it's Arizona, Buffalo
00:41:38Rams, Raiders and Patriots maybe get right a little bit there
00:41:42and then Green Bay, Jets, Houston, Niners, Browns, Dolphins
00:41:46it gets tough so you can't really start two and five
00:41:50and expect to dig yourself out with that schedule at the end it's can you get to
00:41:54three and four, three and three and then hope
00:41:58Tuba comes back and hope you keep him healthy it's kind of a lot of
00:42:02hoping I want to give Seattle credit I think Gino's playing
00:42:06really awesome ball again the two turnovers yesterday and only had the one touchdown
00:42:10but like so the numbers don't look special I think he's completing 78% of his
00:42:14passes or something crazy very much looks like the Gino of two years ago which is what
00:42:18me and you talked about you were very high on Seattle said hey this defense is going to fly around
00:42:22they're going to be good they've got playmakers and if Gino's Gino of 2022
00:42:26I believe completes a ton of passes like they could win nine
00:42:30ten games get in the playoffs they're three now the Rams
00:42:34really gutsy win but they're really beat up I mean they are
00:42:38I don't know how they even won that game yesterday and San Francisco's beat up
00:42:42and one and two Arizona's exactly what I thought they were going to be
00:42:46humble brag there oh wow they're exciting on offense but Kyler still makes
00:42:50horrible decisions with the football and they're not really good on defense that's weird
00:42:54this division's wide open for them it's worked
00:42:58they've had a perfect snowball of the first year head coach they're good enough quarterback
00:43:02play talent around them holding field advantage fast start
00:43:06if I'm Seattle I'm like man can we start we just stack wins everyone else beat up
00:43:10let's just stack wins so if I'm a Seahawks fan I'm really happy this morning
00:43:14comfortable win yesterday kind of
00:43:18feel like all with Seattle's been kind of comfortable so far we're kind of waiting for them to get really
00:43:22challenged and then if I'm a Miami fan I'm like
00:43:26it's the biggest game of the season and it will be the biggest game of the season they have got
00:43:30to win on Monday night they're the Monday night game right
00:43:34they don't win on Monday I think you're starting to go
00:43:38you're starting to go uh oh not our year I feel bad because
00:43:42you can't predict injuries and all this different stuff but similar to the Jets
00:43:46last year and everyone said the same thing about the Jets so I think it's only fair to say the same thing
00:43:50you knew your quarterback
00:43:54you had zero insurance policy for him and Tua is a guy who again
00:43:58two years ago and three years ago and four years ago and in college
00:44:02injuries have been a thing and it was amazing he played all 17 last year but I'm just
00:44:06saying like you have to know sometimes guys that were always hurt get hurt
00:44:10again and the Jets last year
00:44:14were like well if Rodgers gets hurt we're F'd
00:44:18and they operated that way and they were F'd and Miami kind of operated
00:44:22if Tua gets hurt well
00:44:26and he's now hurt and you've now done really nothing so I'm not trying to be
00:44:30harsh I'm just being honest that like the Jets got a lot of crap last year about this and
00:44:34teams get a lot of crap when they don't have like Green Bay is very lucky Malik Wallace has played the way he has
00:44:38because otherwise again what's your insurance plan and I don't know
00:44:42I just I'm very high on the way Seattle started the season and Miami is
00:44:46must win territory on Monday night. Yeah no doubt about it. Speaking of must win
00:44:50the 49ers will find themselves kind of probably feeling that way next
00:44:54weekend when they host the Patriots a home game because they're now 1-2
00:44:58after losing to the previously 0-2 Rams 27-24 Rams
00:45:02score on their last three possessions of the game and
00:45:06my first takeaway from this is on the San Francisco
00:45:10side. It turns out that you need your best players to win games.
00:45:14No McCaffrey, no Debo, no Kittle on offense.
00:45:18Ayuk is not even he's out there but
00:45:22it ain't him. It's proof by the way again that
00:45:26in order to be good at football one must practice football and he
00:45:30is still kicking off the rust of having zero training camp and being moody the entire
00:45:34summer. So that was huge to me. They blew a 14-0 lead
00:45:38they blew the 10-point lead late. Got outcoached
00:45:42special teams the fake punt like kind of stuff that
00:45:46generally doesn't happen to San Francisco and I understand the level of desperation
00:45:50the Rams played with but the Rams are also beat up as we've talked about.
00:45:54I acknowledge their offensive line is a disaster right now and
00:45:58I have to give McVay and his staff a crap ton of credit
00:46:02for cobbling together a
00:46:06plan having to coach around all those injuries and then finding
00:46:10away late in the game to make some calls to
00:46:14get them back in the game and then eventually to win the game. It was
00:46:18a hell of a showing by them because honestly I counted them out. I thought they were going to start off 0-3
00:46:22and this is much like as we were talking with Miami that would be even worse. You start 0-3
00:46:26like just not your year. Guys are just too many guys are hurt and maybe that's going to
00:46:30still be the case because we don't know when Kup's going to be back. We don't know when
00:46:34Nakua's going to be back. We don't know how the offensive line is going to shake out with all of its injuries but
00:46:38damn at least for one day
00:46:42McVay shows it pretty much every week but really cobbling together something and getting
00:46:46an impressive win is probably as impressive as anybody. Yeah look I think the Rams
00:46:50this you're looking at and Schefter
00:46:54was just on I guess McAfee suggesting Zach Wilson or Russell Wilson
00:46:58as options for Miami. Russell Wilson
00:47:02who doesn't throw over the middle of the field. Any offense
00:47:06that prioritizes that would be quite interesting. Shout out to Michael
00:47:10Megan who's on our Jets stuff who just texted me that and I thought
00:47:14it was one of the funnier texts I've read in a while. If you're the Rams you're looking at and going
00:47:18going into yesterday and going if we can find a way to win we get Chicago
00:47:22we got Green Bay at home the Rams at home
00:47:26I don't know you felt like we could win two of those three minimum
00:47:30all of a sudden we're at 3-3 we should start to get healthy
00:47:34and then they have a stretch there where they have New England, Miami
00:47:38their schedule's tough but
00:47:42it starts to look a little brighter. They might not be the division winners that I
00:47:46thought maybe they were going to be but they could be a playoff team still if they just could steal a couple of these
00:47:50games and they probably felt hard done. They felt like they probably should have won week one
00:47:54week two obviously as we know was a disaster
00:47:58the gutsiness of Stafford, the gutsiness of McVay
00:48:02who's defense was playing with their hair on fire yesterday
00:48:06San Francisco to me has looked like a team that yes you need your best players
00:48:10but some of my concerns for San Francisco going into the year
00:48:14were they always have every couple of years this injury regression
00:48:18it always happens with them. Every team but them specifically
00:48:22I feel like they've lost two games now where
00:48:26they kind of got beat up pretty bad. I feel like we left week one
00:48:30going ooh wow they were really physical against the Jets and I feel like the Jets kind of
00:48:34misunderstood the assignment for lack of a better term. Week one
00:48:38and now I think San Francisco's gone in and Flores and
00:48:42McVay and O'Connell have just kind of like, I don't know
00:48:46I feel like they've kind of out-coached Kyle a little bit. I don't know. Yesterday just felt
00:48:50even San Francisco got lucky with a fumble. There was a fourth down
00:48:54call that it didn't look like. It looked like I felt like the Rams
00:48:58kind of got hard done by it. I'm not
00:49:02down on either San Francisco or the Rams in terms of when they're right
00:49:06they're really well coached. They're really talented. They're both physical as hell
00:49:10I just think if you're a Rams fan this morning you're going man
00:49:14now we can breathe for a second. We go face Caleb this week
00:49:18and the Bears who are kind of all over the place. All of a sudden we
00:49:22could be 2-2 coming home for the Raiders and we feel like we have
00:49:26every chance to win that football game. Then we could get healthy after that.
00:49:30Nakua might be off. He could potentially be off. I.R. Cubs. Avilo. These other guys
00:49:34If you're San Francisco you're going thank God we have
00:49:38New England coming in this week because otherwise can we really afford a drop
00:49:42to 1-3 and McCaffrey seems like it's maybe probably 6 or 8 weeks
00:49:46not really 4 weeks and Debo we know usually is longer
00:49:50than shorter in terms of some of the recovery. Kittle having a hamstring
00:49:54is very concerning to me in terms of if you listen to language
00:49:58I believe Jay Glazer used Kittle had a cramp that just wouldn't go away
00:50:02and that to me is usually that thing was about to snap
00:50:06and you're lucky you caught it. I would be shocked if any of those guys
00:50:10I mean Debo and Kittle wise are playing this week
00:50:14you're going to run back to the same thing. Aiyuk is going to get better. I heard people
00:50:18being like is he the most overpaid receiver. No. Stop. Relax.
00:50:22We've seen another year of the
00:50:26holdout guys looking like garbage in the beginning because guess
00:50:30what you need to practice as you said and I just
00:50:34I don't know man if I'm a San Francisco Rams fan I'm going
00:50:38damn Seattle going to keep running away at this thing
00:50:42they're already two games up in the division
00:50:46and it's week 4. So do I think both teams are out of that division race?
00:50:50I don't know but man I don't know
00:50:54Don't let the hole get any deeper.
00:50:58If you're a Rams or Niners fan this week you're going we've got to take care of business in a game that we should win
00:51:02then all of a sudden you're 2-2 you feel a heck of a lot
00:51:06that are saying our injuries might be getting close to the other side of injuries
00:51:10as opposed to 1-3 going what is going on here?
00:51:14And one quick note from the Rams side. Matthew Stafford he's nails
00:51:18I don't want to hear anybody say that he's not like he's one of the better guys in the league
00:51:22just year in and year out good situation making it work. Let's get to our
00:51:26last game. Baltimore Dallas. Baltimore wins 28-25
00:51:30but had a massive lead going into the fourth quarter
00:51:34and damn near pissed it away which coming on the heels
00:51:38of last week when they did piss away a 10 point lead to the Vegas Raiders
00:51:42who oh by the way got absolutely curb stomped by Carolina Panthers
00:51:46the following week like talk about letting one get away talk about being mad at yourself
00:51:50but for three quarters Will that was the
00:51:54Ravens team I thought we were going to see. Derrick Henry at the power running game
00:51:58they got him involved there's a big gainer on the screen like don't just make
00:52:02him like just get him involved in that part of the game so that was the first
00:52:06time Henry looked like Henry that was the first time that they played power football which I think is
00:52:10still what their best bet is they ran over the left side over and over and over again and just took
00:52:14chunks of yards against the Cowboys. Lamar was the maestro
00:52:18you know keeping the ball at times walked into the end zone for their first touchdown
00:52:22and then whatever happens in the fourth quarter happens again
00:52:26and they have to hold on for dear life. I just it's interesting
00:52:30like the number of bodies that they lost
00:52:34we talked about the offensive line still needing to come together and there's still parts of that again the right side
00:52:38still remains although Philele played much better right guard than he had at any point
00:52:42the season but they still have to figure that out
00:52:46but defensively losing some of the pieces that they did
00:52:50Clowney was really good for them last year Geno Stone was really good for them last year Patrick Queen was
00:52:54really good for them last year alongside Roquan Smith
00:52:58their defense isn't the same yet and it's a new coordinator as well so
00:53:02I think that's going to take time but I just wonder if
00:53:06from a personnel standpoint they just don't have the same juice that they had last
00:53:10year when look they were by far and away the best defense in the league but like
00:53:14I looked at them and said they should still be a top 8-ish defense this year and now
00:53:18I'm beginning to wonder if they might not just be like a 16 to
00:53:2218 defense and if that's the case then the guy that
00:53:26had them in the Super Bowl that would be me they're not going to the Super Bowl like that
00:53:30More! I have a comment for you and I'm curious
00:53:34your thoughts on this. This Ravens team is the 2004 Lakers
00:53:382004 Lakers
00:53:42Was that Nash? Nah it was Karl Malone, Gary Payton
00:53:46It was Kobe and Shaq but
00:53:50I believe Shaq next year gets traded but Kobe and his prime
00:53:54very much prime Lamar-ish and they bring in these other guys
00:53:58who don't fit the style really and I don't
00:54:02I think we talked a little bit about this and this is not the week to rip
00:54:06Eric Henry by the way. He was awesome yesterday. I'm not at all like the Ravens
00:54:10won that game and they needed it badly but other
00:54:14Justin Tucker in this mix. This roster is a mix I feel like
00:54:18it's a little bit of guys going different ways in a sense
00:54:22I don't always know that Lamar needs that feature back
00:54:26and needs the feature receivers. I'm concerned
00:54:30about Andrews. I think he ran 4 total routes yesterday
00:54:34I don't know. He's taken a lot of punishment over the years. A lot of target
00:54:38share. The car accident which kind of got glossed over. They said he's fine
00:54:42but he hasn't played like he's fine so I don't know. Something's just off there
00:54:46and they need to get that figured out at some point though because to go beat Kansas City
00:54:50part of that is that two tight end set with Lehman-Likely is just so deadly
00:54:54Henry's a really good player still. He still is a really good back
00:54:58I think he's probably more like he's maybe a top 10 or 12 back not necessarily
00:55:02the top 1 or 2 back but it doesn't need to be
00:55:06I just worry a little bit with them that they're caught in between two styles
00:55:10and I don't know that they've quite yet figured out who they are
00:55:14I think yesterday was like oh everyone's like this is who the Ravens are this is Baltimore Ravens football
00:55:18I mean yeah but like they ran
00:55:22the ball like 500 times and I don't know if that's sustainable every single
00:55:26week but especially when you're going to want to get Lamar more involved and it's hard to like
00:55:30he's the I don't know he's the 50 million dollar
00:55:34toy that like it's hard to like just ignore and be like hey we're going to pound Derek Henry
00:55:38and it's early in the season they should do that they should be
00:55:42kind of keeping the load off Lamar and making sure hey man like
00:55:46we're going to run Henry and this is what we're going to do we're going to try to be a physical football team but like
00:55:50is Lamar going 12-15 sustainable every single week? Not saying it's
00:55:54not a good strategy I'm just saying is it realistic that that's going to happen every week
00:55:58I thought they got away from the run game too much in the playoff game early last year
00:56:02and at times against the Chiefs so again I'm just I'm more curious of
00:56:06for thinking of the Ravens how do they establish an identity and
00:56:10stick to it I think they need to be able to run the football
00:56:14obviously I'm not saying again they shouldn't I'm not talking on both sides of my mouth here I'm just
00:56:18saying that at the same time I feel like it's just not realistic to me that you're going to give
00:56:22Derek Henry 25 carries and Lamar 15 pass attempts every week I just I don't think
00:56:26that it's not going to happen so it's figuring out how do we
00:56:30balance the two of them out but that said they needed this one yesterday
00:56:34badly they got it. I'm concerned about Justin Tucker
00:56:38he's missing a lot of kicks and these are kicks
00:56:42inside warm weather no wind like this is not missing
00:56:46kickers are like relievers man and sometimes when it goes it goes
00:56:50Mike Van Der Jack was the most accurate kicker in NFL history for a long time and it went and all of a sudden
00:56:54it was like oh man
00:56:58that's a huge part of their game like that is no doubt about it
00:57:0260 and in was like guaranteed three points
00:57:06that's why it was so hard to play the Ravens it was like they have an MVP quarterback
00:57:10an amazing defense that will beat the shit out of you and their kicker can make it from
00:57:1475 yards away every single time and he won a game in Detroit
00:57:18on a 66 yarder so I'm just a little concerned about that so I guess
00:57:22in totality with the Ravens like you feel good about them knowing they finally
00:57:26got a game where it was like they were extremely physical they got
00:57:30off the mat they almost blew it again yesterday and they have done it two games
00:57:34in a row so that would be concerning my thing with the Cowboys
00:57:38is this I think me and you were both not super high on them
00:57:42we both said there's a lot of noise a lot of things going on
00:57:46they haven't looked really good at all
00:57:50even the Browns game like that was more we saw yesterday with the Giants
00:57:54more the Browns the Browns yeah Deshaun Watson looks like he should
00:57:58be off the pasture Deshaun Watson at a home game is like
00:58:02Zach Wilson playing in New England I mean it's ugly
00:58:06they took away C.D. Lamb yesterday the Ravens and said
00:58:10somebody else beat us and like you're playing the Cowboys
00:58:14you'll take giving up Keontae Turpin plays and Jake Ferguson getting 11
00:58:18it's like that's a W so I'd be
00:58:22Philly and Dallas to me I'd be more concerned about if they played a different division
00:58:26especially Dallas I mean especially Philly I apologize because of the schedule
00:58:30Dallas they're 0-2 at home they get the Giants in a short week
00:58:34who finally have looked again it's the Browns we'll see have finally looked
00:58:38a little bit like a competent somewhat team I don't know if that'll continue
00:58:42but if they go down to New York and lose to a team they always own
00:58:46now it's at this is the Cowboys schedule coming up
00:58:50Sunday night football Thursday night football of course the Cowboys are on prime time
00:58:54all of the next five weeks they're at Pittsburgh
00:58:58home Lions at San Fran at Atlanta home Philly home Houston
00:59:02I mean this schedule is no joke and I just
00:59:06wonder and again I'm not trying to be hyperbolic here but
00:59:10this is a team with a lot of pressure and Mike McCarthy is a guy that
00:59:14really hits fault someone's going to if they start they are 2-6
00:59:18or 2-5 and Jerry gets impatient
00:59:22it's the one job I feel like we're going to see
00:59:26that and Doug Peterson down in Jacksonville are the two ones where you're like
00:59:30dude this could get ugly kind of quick
00:59:34different circumstances I'm worried about Dallas I mean I don't
00:59:38players are yapping too it's ugly
00:59:42Parsons and Lawrence calling out I think everybody not just the defense
00:59:46and I think this goes back to when we talked about them in the preseason
00:59:50there's a talent erosion that's happened there and their all-in
00:59:54wasn't all-in they didn't do anything to replace it
00:59:58it's like you had Jerry Jones talking about how they couldn't afford Derrick Henry
01:00:02no they could have afforded Derrick Henry they chose not to they chose not to spend
01:00:06so they reap what they sow right now that's
01:00:10that's a middling football team at best at this point
01:00:14very top heavy not that they were ever as good as those late 90s
01:00:18Cowboys teams or mid 90s Cowboys teams but in the late 90s it started to be like
01:00:22they're the Cowboys and on the schedule you look at it and you think
01:00:26this might be a loss and they still had some of those guys but like the pieces
01:00:30around them started to and again I know it's very different I'm just trying to say like
01:00:34they're an average 12 win a year team that kind of has the
01:00:38roster of like an 8 win team with some stars and you hope
01:00:42those stars can take you to 10-11 wins in the playoffs and it just worries me that
01:00:46like the schedule mixed with a lame duck coach mixed with
01:00:50most of these guys having just gotten paid and not really practiced
01:00:54and the media and it just it's one of those whirlwinds
01:00:58that it's troublesome like I'm not trying to
01:01:02overreact here they might go out and beat the Giants 40-0 again and beat Pittsburgh
01:01:06who I think is probably not anywhere near as good as their record and they'll be 3-2
01:01:10and I'll have pie on my face but right now
01:01:14I'm only talking about what you see and what we've seen so far it ain't been good
01:01:18they beat a bad Browns team and they got throttled at home by
01:01:22New Orleans and Baltimore. Not great. Not great.
01:01:26You know what is great? Well it's not great for me but it was great for you as I saw you tweeting
01:01:30is that what we still call it? Tweeting? Yes, X-ing
01:01:34about what a weekend it was for the New York teams. You got the Yankees
01:01:38they're headed to the postseason. Mets, big series
01:01:42looks like they're headed to the postseason and that means you're going to want tickets

01:02:10Yankee playoff game and I'll be like, my baseball season for my
01:02:14team was over about, I mean technically they're still alive
01:02:18or maybe it finally ended. Alex Gorshin
01:02:22will throw it at Aaron Judge and maybe their season will still be alive.
01:02:26Garrett Cole throwing at Raphael Devers, you big wuss, just because he owns you
01:02:30but I know you're going to be using it and that pisses me off but I'm happy

01:02:54What time is it? It is game time. It's also time for
01:02:58reactions to end the pod today. I'll give you two.
01:03:02Justin Fields, Steelers
01:03:06quarterback of the future?
01:03:10Look, probably I'm going to say this as a passer
01:03:14against, it's an OK Chargers thing, defensively OK
01:03:18you know they're old, Bosa goes out again, which is, you know, write that
01:03:22out every other week, but processing better
01:03:26made a couple throws that
01:03:30I didn't really see him make in Chicago and I'm just wondering if
01:03:34the job that Arthur Smith has done there with him and maybe he's never going to be
01:03:38what we thought he was going to be as a passer, as a top 10 pick
01:03:42but maybe now he settles into that
01:03:4615th, 16th best quarterback in the league as a passer and then
01:03:50what he can do with his legs gives you that extra element
01:03:54and it's again, just as you said, I don't think Pittsburgh is very good
01:03:58I mean defensively they are, I don't think they're very good offensively and I don't think they're as good
01:04:02as their record says they are, currently undefeated, but
01:04:06something to monitor that this guy's playing at least for this small sample size
01:04:10and he's gotten better every week, which is kind of what I like
01:04:14and I would say Russell Wilson, you know, whether he's getting traded or
01:04:18whatever, feels as though Russell Wilson is not getting a crack at that job anytime soon.
01:04:22No, he is not. I'll give you two overreactions. One,
01:04:26Malik Neighbors will be the most productive receiver in the NFC East
01:04:30in 2024. He's been special. The Giants
01:04:34needed that win badly yesterday. After that kickoff
01:04:38and touchdown immediately, I had Giants buddies texting me, can we hire
01:04:42Bill Belichick? Can we trade for Mike Vrabel?
01:04:46All these different things. So I'm going to go Malik Neighbors
01:04:50will finish as the most productive receiver in the NFC East. Probably has a chance
01:04:54to beat Odell's first couple years. I mean, he has been special.
01:04:58My second one
01:05:02is Travis Kelsey close to the end
01:05:06here. You wanted to say cooked. I wanted to
01:05:10say he's cooked, but no, we know that he's going to make plays and there'll be plays throughout the year
01:05:14and the playoffs. I'm sure he'll come up with the big plays in the biggest stage and we know he is. He looks
01:05:18mentally just shot yesterday. There becomes a point where
01:05:22there's too much off the field. And again, I don't mean to be this, you know, the yelling from the
01:05:26yawn, you know, the long guy and whatever, but all the
01:05:30podcasts and the traveling with Taylor Swift and the Taylor Swift hold
01:05:34nine yards and they've won it a bunch of times and
01:05:38I just, it starts to add up and he's 34 going to be 35 and it's like,
01:05:42it's a lot and it's a lot to get up for all these different games
01:05:46and I'm not blaming him. Like he's going to walk in the hall of fame as one of the best tight ends
01:05:50ever and won a bunch of titles and hundreds of millions
01:05:54like all of it. I totally get it, but it's not great right
01:05:58now. And I, I just, my homes hasn't looked awesome.
01:06:02They've gotten bailed out by some calls. They're now passionate for your sister. I mean, it's
01:06:06just like hysterical, but all that said
01:06:10they're three and oh, and you know, again, he'll have moments this year. I just
01:06:14it feels like it's either this year or next
01:06:18year maybe, but it, it feels like it's, it's
01:06:22I'd like to see Travis Kelsey walk out still one of the best players in his position
01:06:26and I'm not advocating for him to retire. I'm just telling you like it feels
01:06:30like sooner rather than later, we're going to see the actual decline last year. It felt like we were seeing it
01:06:34and he snapped out of it. So maybe we'll see it again like that. But this year it feels like it's like
01:06:38he's just kind of out there doing cardio.
01:06:42We'll see if that changes a little bit, you know, as a, as the season goes on.
01:06:46I'll give you one last overreaction before we say goodbye. I talked about Bobby
01:06:50Sloic being on my, your, your suspect and I'm watching you. Shane Waldron
01:06:54who's the offensive coordinator for the Bears. I actually thought
01:06:58Caleb did some nice things yesterday. I thought he did some nice things
01:07:02against the Texans, even though he was under siege that whole game. I don't know
01:07:06what he's calling. I saw Ibra Floose with a quote today that he
01:07:10watched something that they did yesterday and was like, we got to be better than that. We can't do that.
01:07:14I just would say through three weeks, I have
01:07:18been left wondering what his plan is.
01:07:22Like they take shots down the field. It's always outside the numbers and not pushing the ball down the middle of the
01:07:26field. Pass protection has been brutal. Like
01:07:30they're getting him killed, which again would be another reason why hello
01:07:34Patriots strike may you might want to keep them over here for a little while. But so Shane Waldron
01:07:38I'm watching and I'm already sensing some disturbances
01:07:42between him and Ibra Floose. So I'm curious to see how that plays out.
01:07:46Antonio Pierce, we are not ruling out a change of quarterback.
01:07:50We're not ruling out a change of quarterback. And guys made
01:07:54business decisions yesterday. Yeah, that means Devontae Adams, pack your bags for
01:07:58New York and Gardner Mitchell. And Jack Jones who everybody was raving about once he got
01:08:02over there. Absolutely olé to play where he just wanted nothing to do with physical
01:08:06contact. And I would say I told you so.
01:08:10We didn't like that hire. It paid some dividends for them
01:08:14because they just got rid of Josh McDaniels and it was just like anybody but him.
01:08:18But it seems like that train is already going off the tracks in
01:08:22Vegas despite the ridiculous win over Baltimore two weekends ago.
01:08:26Belichick Pittsburgh is the best quarterback situation in the NFL.
01:08:30Bill, spare me buddy.
01:08:34Good talk.
01:08:38What he probably told ownership was we'll go get Justin Fields this offseason
01:08:42before he got fired. And now Justin Fields is doing pretty well for Pittsburgh.
01:08:46I told you. He was awesome. I told you.
01:08:50That's going to wrap it up. A reminder to like, subscribe, listen, tell your friends, give reviews,
01:08:54tell us how wonderful we are so we can continue to push this brand out there.
01:08:58We will be back again at the end of the week getting you ready for week four slate.
01:09:02I am Mike Chiari. See you.
