00:00All right, everyone, welcome back into another live edition of the Patriots Beat Podcast
00:29here on the CLNS Media Network presented by our wonderful friends over at PrizePix and
00:35GameTime.
00:36It's Brian Hines back as always with Alex Barth and we got a good one for you guys today.
00:40It's been a few days, almost a week since we've been on here.
00:43So since we've last, you know, been on here, the Patriots have continued to fill out their
00:48coaching staff.
00:49They officially named all three coordinators, which we did talk about that, you know, we
00:53were on after the Josh McDaniels news broke and we talked about Terrell Williams a little
00:57bit on that.
00:58They've continued to fill out this coaching staff and then the senior bowl kicks off tomorrow.
01:02So we'll get into a little bit of preview and some players we're going to be watching
01:06during the next three days of senior bowl practices and then the all-star game taking
01:11place on Saturday there down in Mobile.
01:14But we will start with that coaching staff again, Josh McDaniels, Terrell Williams, officially
01:18named offensive and defensive coordinators.
01:21And we're starting to get some of these positional guys trickle in a few big names today.
01:27Really the big word seems to be experience, which was the opposite of last year, right?
01:31Like you're talking about guys like Doug Marone, who has been a head coach, Thomas Brown, who
01:35has been an experienced offensive coordinator.
01:37He was the interim head coach for the Chicago bears last year.
01:41And then some of these kind of younger up and comer guys, like, you know, an Ashton
01:45Grant, who's going to be the quarterbacks coach, someone who worked with Mike Frabel
01:49in Cleveland last year, someone like Riley Larkin, who's going to be an offensive assistant
01:53who was with Ohio state last year.
01:54So it's a good mix of experienced guys and maybe some of these younger guys.
01:58And also it seems to be like good mix of Mike Frabel guys and some of these maybe guys who
02:04are more with Josh, right?
02:06Like Josh spent some time at Ohio state.
02:08Maybe he got a connection with Riley Larkin there who also went to I'm blanking on the
02:13college where Josh go, John Carroll, John Carroll.
02:17So some Frabel guys, some McDaniels guys, it looks like.
02:23So just maybe start on the offense side of the ball.
02:25How are you feeling about how, how this staff is, is coming together on that side?
02:29I mean, we still need to see the wide receivers coach, right?
02:32That's going to kind of be a big part of this, but I feel good.
02:35And I think the most telling thing is to get a guy like Thomas Brown to come coach tight
02:41ends.
02:42And I think the past game coordinator tag is notable as well.
02:45We talked about the upside of Josh McDaniels when he was hired being that he's not a, he's
02:49not going anywhere, right?
02:50You're not going to lose him.
02:51You're not going to have this turnover.
02:53Well, there's in theory, a negative consequence to that as well.
02:56Guys who are close to being a coordinator who are, you would think are the better coaches,
03:00right?
03:01Cause they're ready for a promotion.
03:02They may be less willing to come because there's not that clear next step up internally and
03:07sure they can come and get another job elsewhere, but there's a number of reasons why that's
03:11less attractive than a shot at an internal promotion.
03:15And Josh McDaniels kind of blocks that Thomas Brown's a guy that was an interim head coach
03:18a year ago for all that went wrong in Chicago.
03:21He seemed, he's kind of was there Alex van Pelt where as much as things didn't work,
03:26he kind of seemed to be the one guy everybody pointed to and said, well, he's trying his
03:30best.
03:31Like don't blame him.
03:32Right.
03:33It's not on him.
03:34They're often, they're often the bears was at the best, like the three weeks where he
03:37was offensive coordinator and then they moved them down to the interim head coach and everything
03:42got too busy and it went off the rails again.
03:44But when he was though that stretch, that small stretch where he was solely offensive
03:48coordinator was the best their offense looked probably.
03:50So for a guy like that to come here where, you know, he's taking a lesser job than he
03:56really is last two jobs, less than his last two jobs for a guy like that to come here,
04:01take this job.
04:03I think that speaks strongly to the program that Mike Vrabel is, is pitching.
04:09There's belief that he's going to be able to, to have a chance to, to get out of here.
04:13And that's not to say like they should be rushing out the door.
04:16I don't mean to minimize this hire, but these guys are worried about themselves first and
04:20foremost as they should be and moving up that ladder.
04:24And for a guy like that to take a job here for, uh, you know, a guy like Riley Larkin,
04:30who look, he's, he's a ways away from being an offensive coordinator, but he is a quarterback
04:35background.
04:36The quarterback's coach job is filled with Ashton grant.
04:38You really have Josh McDaniels hovering over that whole thing.
04:42They're still able to get these guys to come here.
04:44So I think that speaks to Vrabel and the job he's done in the program he's pitched.
04:49And I think it speaks to Drake may people, these coaches believe that Drake may can lead
04:54a successful offense.
04:55Cause you're not making that next step.
04:57If the offense isn't good internally, externally, it doesn't matter.
05:00So I think it tells you that these coaches around the league believe in Drake may.
05:05So it's encouraging.
05:06I, I need to see the wide receivers coach because that is going to be, and the offensive
05:10line coach.
05:11I don't think it's been reported yet that Doug Morone's the offensive line coach.
05:14He has the offensive line background.
05:16And they got, um, it was reported, Jason, I'm going to mispronounce his name.
05:22How tailing, how tailing who worked with the assistant for two years with Vrabel in Tennessee.
05:27And then he took over the room when they fired Keith Carter in 23, he's joining the staff.
05:32So those two guys will probably have their hands, right?
05:36It's more like his Doug Morone, the Ben McAdoo of this staff, right?
05:42That that's the question.
05:43So let's see what happens there.
05:44Cause you'll still need an assistant.
05:45And I know there's been some reporting that there'll be more offensive line hires, um,
05:50but you know, so far excellent.
05:54Like you said, I think the blend experience coaches, young coaches, guys from the McDaniel
05:58system, guys from the West coast system, guys, it was with experience with McDaniel's guys
06:01with experience with Vrabel.
06:04I think that they've, it's a very well-rounded staff.
06:08I think that's probably the best way to describe it.
06:10They've done a good job so far, make it well-rounded, but I'm still waiting on that wide receivers
06:13coach.
06:14Yep.
06:15Could you spin that?
06:17Any concern like that?
06:18It is so well-rounded and if we have all these different voices and ideas, like, do you think
06:24that could be messy in any way?
06:26If it was a young coordinator, yes, absolutely.
06:29If it had been, you know, Clint Kubiak or Tommy Reese or one of these guys we talked
06:36about, yes, that would be the 28 year old.
06:39Yes.
06:40That would be a major concern.
06:41I don't worry about like Josh McDaniel is going to get a lot of input.
06:45I don't worry about him getting lost in the sauce, right?
06:47I don't worry about him having trouble putting on, putting everything where it needs to be.
06:53He's done this.
06:54He's been a head coach, uh, and he wasn't good at it, but he's been a head coach.
06:58So he's used to kind of getting all this different input.
07:00Um, he ultimately knows what he wants to do.
07:03He's not somebody that's learning on the job.
07:05I think Josh McDaniels is what allows this setup to be possible.
07:09I don't think this staff would work with any coordinator, but with Josh McDaniels, yes,
07:14I think that it, it lines up with so much experience, you know, he's able to carry,
07:20carry the ship and lead the ship and that type of saying, and same with like the quarterbacks
07:24coach.
07:25A lot of people, you know, online being like, you know, Ashton grants never had that role
07:28before.
07:29He's a younger coach, Riley Larkin.
07:31He's like 27, 28, kind of the same mold.
07:34Like he's never been a quarterbacks coach and he's worked in a college for most of his
07:38coaching, early coaching career here.
07:40But like, yeah, Josh McDaniels, and he's going to be such a big part in that quarterbacks
07:44room.
07:45It's the second time he hasn't had the title.
07:47It was 2020 when Jed fish had it.
07:49Um, so he's, you know, you're, you're going to have him overlooking Drake may and overlooking
07:54that quarterback room, uh, two.
07:56So McDaniels really, uh, let's that thing, let that thing kind of go.
08:01Someone did ask, uh, do you have a dream wide receivers coach at this point?
08:06I mean, we've talked a lot about, you know, Wes Welker, Sean Jefferson, uh, Rob Moore
08:11was with Rabel for a while in Tennessee.
08:14He's with Carolina.
08:15I don't know if he wants to get out of his contract, but you have a dream receivers coach
08:20here to kind of put the cherry on top of this stuff.
08:23Um, I mean, a lot of the names you, you mentioned, I don't think that there's one, obviously,
08:30uh, Brian Hartline is like the guy, right?
08:33But if it's not him, Welker Jefferson, I, I, those are the guys you kind of look at.
08:39Yep.
08:40I will be interested if they do add another offensive line coach too, because I know Marone's
08:45got a ton of experience, but the last like few years in, um, new Orleans, it wasn't great.
08:53And then, uh, howling or how would we say his name?
08:56Uh, Jason, how, how tailing, uh, it wasn't great the one year he read, uh, led the room
09:03in Tennessee.
09:04I looked up like past brought past block win rates and they were both, uh, near the bottom
09:08and I think 28th and 30th.
09:10So it wasn't pretty.
09:11And even going back to like the one year Doug Morone was in Alabama, it was not good.
09:17Alabama fans were not happy with him down there.
09:20So he's got a ton of experience and a lot of it is probably personnel, right?
09:23You got to upgrade the personnel and get better results, but I will be interested to see how
09:27the titles shake out in that room.
09:29And maybe if they do add another coach into that mix as well, if Marone does maybe take
09:35that McAdoo type overseer role, you know, he was an analyst at BC last year, not a special
09:40teams coach, but, um, and then if he does have a say, like we have a BC tackle, who's
09:45going to be at the senior bowl.
09:46We'll talk about the drafted.
09:48Cam Robinson is going to be one of the top three agent tackles.
09:50So maybe he has a say in how that kind of shakes out with some of that personnel decisions
09:55up front there as well, but, um, any other thoughts on the D uh, offense of coaching
10:02staff there?
10:03I mean, Tony Duke.
10:04Yeah, that was, that was pretty much, but, um, defense, we've talked a good amount about
10:10Terrell Williams, the defensive coordinator and what, what he's going to bring.
10:15Um, we we've started to get some of his assistants, you know, Zach Kerr, uh, Milton Patterson,
10:21probably going to be working with linebackers based off their background.
10:24Clinton McMillan, uh, is a front like defensive line pass rush guy.
10:30So a lot of Tennessee connections as you would expect, uh, with rabble, but any thoughts
10:34just on the, uh, defensive staff there and under Terrell Williams.
10:39Just still waiting on Mike Pellegrino.
10:40They haven't brought in a cornerbacks coach.
10:43You haven't heard anything.
10:44One way or the other.
10:45There was some rumors about, um, was it Kevin Richardson, like the Illinois defensive backs
10:51coach?
10:52Yeah.
10:53But he could be a safeties coach too.
10:54Like I'm also, I would feel like, you know, you're elevating a guy from the collegiate
10:58level.
10:59Like, would he just be like an assistant defensive back coach?
11:02Like I'm still not, I'm still not ruling that one out.
11:05Yep.
11:06So yeah, Brian Belichick, we still haven't heard if he's going to UNC.
11:09So again, I say the longer that goes, the better chance that he maybe comes back and
11:14then we would all love Mike Pellegrino to come back, especially with Terrell Williams.
11:18Like his focus is on the defensive line.
11:21That's where all of his background has come from.
11:23So if you can keep some continuity there in the secondary, I think that that would be
11:27huge for this group.
11:28So, um, yeah, any, any last thoughts as a whole on that staff or we can kick it over
11:35to the senior bowl.
11:37Before we do that, I want to tell you guys about prize picks where you just pick more
11:40on less on at least two players for a shot to win up to 1000 times.
11:45Your cash and playoffs are almost over.
11:48There's one more game.
11:50We had a great, uh, conference championship weekend.
11:54I, my price picks lineup.
11:56It was a lock put Xavier worthy in the lineup against the bills.
11:59You knew he would come back to bite them in the butt, but we have one more, uh, the big
12:05game is coming up on price picks and we have a free square for Patrick Mahomes.
12:10All he needs is half a passing yard and you win and you can pair that, uh, with any other
12:16player projection lineup.
12:17You'd like Saquon Barkley, more than 112 and a half rush yards, Travis Kelsey, 62 and a
12:22half receiving yards or Xavier worthy.
12:24Another big game, 56 and a half receiving yards, all available, and you can win up to
12:281000 times your money again on price picks.
12:32And they also put their members first.
12:35So all withdrawals are fast, safe, and secure.
12:37When my picks hit, I can get my money in as quick as 15 minutes.
12:40And price picks now offers master card for quick and easy deposits into your account.

12:51After you play your first $5 lineup again, that's code C L N S to get $50 instantly.
12:57After you play your first $5 lineup on price picks, run your game.
13:02All right.
13:03Uh, senior bowl again, practices Tuesday through Thursday.
13:06All-star game is on Saturday.
13:09So, uh, you want to start with a certain position, biggest positions of needs, or just go through
13:14all of them position by position.
13:16Sure.
13:17Do we, are we doing quarterbacks or yeah, I have, I have two quarterbacks takes.
13:21All right.
13:22Who you got for quarterbacks?
13:23All right.
13:24So quarterback take number one, uh, Jalen Milrow relevant to the Patriots.
13:28Not because I think they'll take him, but will Howard's not going, uh, you know, coming
13:33off the national championship, which makes sense.
13:35I don't blame him for that one, but can one of these quiz, a lot of quarterback needy
13:39teams is somebody going to do something here between now and the start of the draft to
13:43get themselves back in that, you know, top half of the first round, top 10 conversation.
13:48Milrow was in that conversation till he had a rough final three or four games.
13:52I'm not saying it it's right.
13:53I'm not saying I would fall for it if I'm a GM, but we've seen this before.
13:57Does he have like a big week at the senior bowl?
13:59We know he's going to test wall at the combine and suddenly he's in that top 10 conversation.
14:03And the reason that's relevant to the Patriots is because it impacts the value of that fourth
14:10overall pick.
14:12How it's tough to say, cause how, how much does his stock rise exactly?
14:16Which teams are interested in him?
14:18It could go up.
14:19It could go down.
14:20It kind of depends exactly how well he plays, but Jalen Milrow is a player to watch, uh,
14:24for the Patriots in that sense.
14:26And then one of the best stories at the game, I texted you guys about this, Brian.
14:30Um, so I'm, I'm looking through on one hand, you know, the Patriots should be set at quarterback
14:37in theory.
14:38On the other hand, they've drafted a quarterback from the senior bowl three, the last four
14:42years.
14:43And he always throws darts at the Packer way is take a quarterback every year.
14:48Now, is it Elliot Wolfer?
14:50Is it, uh, Mike Vrabel and, and why am I blanking on his name, Ryan, um, Brian Cowden, Brian
14:56Cowden.
14:56So, you know, does that play out?
14:59Does it not?
14:59Well, I guess I should look.
15:00Okay.
15:01What do they want for quarterbacks?
15:03What did they look for last year?
15:04Cross the board.
15:05Big cannon of an arm can move around.
15:09So I'm looking at senior belt bull quarterback roster.
15:12All right.
15:12Well, you know, uh, Jackson darts, six feet tall.
15:16It's not him.
15:17Uh, you know, Raleigh Leonard doesn't have the arm.
15:20It's not him.
15:21Um, Dylan Gabriel, too small, not him.
15:24And I get to Tyler shuck from Louisville, like six, five to 15 throws ball.
15:30Hard.
15:30Doesn't throw a fart, but there was a hard to move around a little bit.
15:34Seven year college veteran.
15:35Okay.
15:36She's got some experience that might make him a good camp arm.
15:39All right.
15:40So it's probably hit.
15:41Oh, wait a minute.
15:42Who's this guy?
15:44Six, five to 25.
15:48It's got a rocket of an arm.
15:50Taylor.
15:51L Gersma.
15:52Well, let me Google him.
15:54Let me do some research on him from Lauren.
15:56Hey, that is in you sport.
15:58That's not, that's not, you know, what's you sport.
16:01It's not a D two conference, not a D three conference.
16:04That's the Canadian NCAA.
16:06He is the second you sport player ever to be invited to the senior bowl.
16:10You go and you watch the clips of him that are available.
16:14He can hum it.
16:15And remember it's a hundred, it's 110 yard field, not a hundred.
16:19So when he's thrown it from the 30 to the 30, there's another 10 yards in there.
16:24Um, he moved around a little bit.
16:25He's got the size now.
16:29Look, would I use a draft pick on him?
16:30Probably not because the, and he, like he, he wasn't playing, he's
16:35playing Canadian college football, right?
16:37There's a huge week for him.
16:38The receivers are doing the thing where they run before the staff.
16:43And trust me, Evan brought that up to me and I said, well, that doesn't have
16:47anything to do with how far he can throw the ball.
16:48It doesn't matter if they have a running start or not, what
16:50country or, and it doesn't matter.
16:52So like, would I use a draft pick on him?
16:55Probably not.
16:55He's got to really show this week what he can do against higher level competition.
16:59But if you need a camp arm, he's objectively everything you look for in a
17:04camp arm, and he kind of checks some of those boxes that the Patriots
17:07look at in the quarterback.
17:09I'm going to be fascinated to see what he does this week.
17:10He's one of the most fun players down there this week.
17:14That's a perfect way to start our senior bowl preview.
17:16What that's you're not getting anywhere else.
17:18You're only three or four minutes on the Canadian football quarterback on a team
17:22that doesn't even really need a quarterback.
17:25Am I wrong, Brian?
17:26No, I mean, I show this show.
17:29Yeah.
17:30If he has a good week, like he's going to maybe slip into the seventh round
17:34or be a priority kind of UDFA.
17:36Like this is, there's a couple of guys, especially some of those
17:39edge rushers we'll get to, like who played at like the FCS level.
17:42And if they have a big week, you know, like Mike green with that Marshall
17:46or something, you know, they, they really help their draft stock.
17:48So, uh, we'll see, hopefully he puts on a show cause then we'll
17:51get to talk about it more.
17:52But, um, those are our quarterback takes, I guess, running back, uh,
17:57you know, Donovan Edwards, Ollie Gordon.
17:59I think we talked about him in our Q and a, um, anyone else in that group
18:04you're, you're kind of looking at for the, for the running backs here.
18:08So those are the two big ones, especially Ollie Gordon.
18:11Like he's that almost oversized back that Vrabel targeted in
18:16Tennessee, not just Eric Henry.
18:18And if they're going to go to that early down passing down dynamic, he
18:22totally fits the bill and could be a real volume pick after he had
18:25a bad year at Oklahoma state.
18:26Damian Martinez, another guy I kind of like in that, um, in that role.
18:32I'm more interested in the passing down backs though.
18:34Uh, LaQuint Allen from Syracuse had 80 catches this year out of the
18:39is a plus pass blocker as well as being a plus receiver, uh, projected day
18:45three, pick good size, six foot, 200 pounds, uh, shifty.
18:49He's not, you know, he's not going to win anything in the 40, but he's
18:52really good at making defenders miss in the open field.
18:55So do they, if there are going to go back to early down passing down,
18:58is it Antonio Gibson or do they try to find somebody else or is it, you know,
19:03do they need a backup, right?
19:04Cause you kind of want one, two guys in each role.
19:07Uh, if we're going to do the whole next James White thing, I, I'm not saying
19:11he's going to be the next James White, but if we're looking for the guy that
19:14profiles that way, he profiles similarly to, to what you would look
19:18for in a guy like James White.
19:20Uh, so LaQuint Allen, Woody Marks from USC is another player.
19:23That's kind of in that mold, but I like Alan a little bit better.
19:26And then you do have the, like the Rex Burkhead types, the guy that
19:28can go between both roles.
19:30I think Donovan Edwards, I wouldn't pigeonhole him as an early down back.
19:33He can be a factor in the past game.
19:35Um, I'd put him in there and then Cam Scadavoo to me is also a guy that he
19:41can be an early down back.
19:42He can be a passing down back.
19:43I think he could probably go between the two.
19:45They didn't release his measurements.
19:47So I don't know if he is bailing.
19:49Sometimes they just miss one or two, but we'll see with, with Scadavoo.
19:53Um, I like RJ Harvey UCF.
19:56He measured in, he's small.
19:58Like he, he measured in at five, seven, I think right over 200 pounds.
20:01But you know, you want to talk about a guy who's tough to bring down in the
20:04open field, like he's got that wiggle.
20:06I think he was top 10 in all college football, uh, and
20:08missed tackles for us this year.
20:10So I'm an RJ Harvey fan.
20:12A lot of people in the chat to talk about Devin Neal.
20:14Devin Neal is another good one for that early down role player as well.
20:17So, um, there's some good running backs, you know, not the top of the class.
20:22Like the, uh, the Ohio state guys won't be there.
20:24Uh, Amari and Hampton UNC play with Drake May.
20:27He won't be there, but you know, if you're looking at maybe that fourth,
20:31ish round, you know, early day three for a running back for the Patriots, uh, that
20:36there are some guys who are, who are there in the, in that range, uh, in, in
20:40the senior bowl this week, but, um, yeah, well, I receiver the fun one, some good
20:46potential, maybe slot players, Z slot players for Josh McDaniels, you know,
20:50Xavier is the big one, but, uh, who are you looking at in that receiver group?
20:57So Restrepo is the top of the board.
20:59Restrepo, if they will get to the tackles, they're in this too, but like
21:03there's three clear cut players for Patriots fans to watch weeks, two
21:06tackles, and then Xavier Restrepo.
21:08He just profiles entirely as that Josh McDaniel slot guy.
21:13He might profile a little too well.
21:14And does he sneak up into the back end of the first round?
21:17So, you know, some of the other guys you look at in that role, like as a pure
21:21slot, Jalen Noel's an interesting one.
21:23Uh, from Iowa state, Jaden Higgins also from Iowa state.
21:26So Noel's more of the smaller shifty slot receiver.
21:29If they want to go big slot, Jaden Higgins is a guy I'd look at.
21:32And then you have the guys that are more true.
21:34Like you said, the, the slot X, uh, or the slot Z, sorry.
21:38Everybody's talking about Jalen Royals.
21:39He's getting, it's on a pump.
21:40Understandable.
21:42Good player.
21:43Uh, is he going to practice much?
21:45Do you think, cause he, did he break his foot?
21:47He missed the last like month or two of the season with a foot injury,
21:50but it's, it, you never know what these things, I always, you know, we'll, we'll
21:55see it tomorrow and there'll be five players we thought were out there that
21:57aren't out there and then there'll be, you know, four or five more guys
22:00that weren't on the rosters.
22:02Who's the guy last year?
22:03Remember the, um,
22:04Oh, the, uh, Travis Glover, the tackle attack from Georgia state or like an
22:07awesome, they flew him down, like after the first day or something like that.
22:11I know I'm still waiting to hear.
22:12Cause they get the guys from the smaller games who've kind of earned it.
22:15That's where, uh, Elger's we came from.
22:17I'm kind of hoping that, uh, Robbie Utes checks that box and gets the late invite.
22:21I know he had been on their watch list.
22:24Royals we'll see, but like, you know, great route runner.
22:26He's a guy that's going to dominate the one-on-ones good explosiveness,
22:29a guy I'm surprised I have not heard a peep about, like I had to go and
22:35double check and make sure I wasn't like making this guy up or he didn't
22:38declare even though, but he's on their roster, uh, so he apparently exists
22:43as Kyle Williams from Washington state.
22:46Really like true hybrid Z slot came in today, five, 10, one 84.
22:52That's what you're looking for in that role in the Josh McDaniels offense
22:56had 1200 yards last year and 14 touchdowns really all over the place.
23:00Quarterback play.
23:01This is a guy that you watch his ability.
23:04Both in the route and with the ball in his hands, he can go from full speed.
23:10He's got a good top gear, full speed to a stop.
23:13And then other way around, stop to full speed like that.
23:17I mean, his ability to get in and out of breaks in and out of cuts is excellent.
23:21Um, I just, I, for whatever reason, he's on like nobody's radar.
23:24He's player 800 on the consensus board.
23:26So I'm hoping he gets a big week.
23:28I'm hoping he kind of shows up because he's another guy that I look at
23:31specifically is like, yeah, in the Josh McDaniels offense, this is
23:35the kind of guy that thrives.
23:37Yeah.
23:38Yeah.
23:38I like, you mentioned Jalen Noel in that role.
23:41He's, you know, if you don't want to go over a Scrappo, maybe top of the second,
23:44you know, maybe a guy like Jalen Noel is there and then the fourth round or,
23:48you know, early on day three.
23:49So I, I like him and his teammate, Jaden Higgins, uh, as well.
23:53I do like Jalen Royals, just he's blazing fast.
23:56I think they said he ran a four three at like the Utah elite camp before, which,
24:00you know, they can always fudge those numbers a little bit, but, um, he is fast
24:05and he kind of fits that size profile that Elliott Wolfe, uh, tends to like
24:09from green Bay and again, is that what Mike Vrabel likes we'll, we'll wait and
24:12see, but, um, Uh, who else was there?
24:16Oh, the TCU guys.
24:19Uh, Savion Williams.
24:20We've, we've talked a little bit about Savion Williams.
24:22Isn't going, I'm pretty sure he he's out.
24:24He dropped out.
24:25Yeah.
24:25He would have been a ton of fun to watch.
24:28Yeah.
24:28But Beck, Beck will be there.
24:29He was a former tight end LSU transfer.
24:32You know, he can good size, but he's a pretty good route runner for that size.
24:36Same with Pat Bryant.
24:38Uh, I know that's Taylor's guy, so he will be there as well.
24:41So those are more, they, there are some outside X guys, you know,
24:44back Bryant, Jaden Higgins, but there are a lot of those good, good inside players.
24:50I'll give you a couple more, a couple more X guys.
24:52AO Manor is probably the top ranked receiver in his group.
24:56He might be, he was another one.
24:57They didn't do his measurements practicing, but if he is there, if you're somebody
25:04who really likes Tett McMillan, that's your day to Tett McMillan, probably.
25:08Um, if you really want a player with that makeup and they're not
25:11going wide receiver in round one.
25:13Doesn't he get like some Puka comps?
25:15Like he's got that size and it's like, he's not, I don't think he's going to
25:20test fast, but like the end game speed, you know, he's one of those guys.
25:23Yeah.
25:24I could see that.
25:25Puka is more like built than he is.
25:28Yeah.
25:28He's more like long, uh, that sort of thing.
25:32And then, uh, another guy at the ex brew McCoy from Tennessee.
25:36Now he comes from that unique Tennessee offense, which always
25:39makes it tough to project.
25:40And he's had some injury problems as well.
25:43I think he was dealing with an ankle injury, like throughout the year.
25:45So I know Patriots fans here that great, a guy that's got to learn a new
25:49offense and guy with injury history.
25:50Those are kind of the two biggest red flags that we've seen here over
25:53the last 10 years with receivers.
25:55But I'm not taking him in the top 100.
25:58If you can get brew McCoy in like the fifth or sixth round, take a flyer on him.
26:02They do need some sort of X.
26:04Like even if they get a starter, they need a backup.
26:06It's not a great role for Keishon booty.
26:08He's better as a Z.
26:09So I just a guy to watch.
26:12It'll be interesting to see what he does this week.
26:14He's also a guy where, okay.
26:16Injury concerns has scheme concerns.
26:19You're not really going to see those senior bowl week, right?
26:22It's going to be one-on-ones controlled environment.
26:24He isn't tremendously talented.
26:26Like he, his talent supersedes where he's going to be drafted.
26:30So he's the kind of guy that could just have like a monster week and everybody
26:34gets all hot and bothered about them.
26:36And maybe that pushes, you know, some other guys down the
26:38board to the benefit of the Patriots.
26:40Yup.
26:41Uh, tight ends, not a huge tight end class, uh, Harold fan and bowling
26:46green, who he's got some comps to John who, so we've talked a lot about Josh
26:50McDaniel is having issues with those types of players, so maybe not, uh,
26:54Harold fan and, but, uh, Gunnar Helm from Texas is probably the next best,
26:58uh, tight end in attendance.
27:00Anything on those guys or, you know, Terrence Ferguson, Jackson
27:04Hawes, anyone else in that tight end room that maybe late round, late
27:08round option for the Patriots?
27:09Well, first off, shout out to Eric Galco, director of the shrine bowl.
27:12Cause they have a great group of tight ends there this week.
27:15They really knocked it out of the park.
27:17Um, on that portion of the roster as for the senior bowl, I don't know that, you
27:21know, day two might be a little early for tight end, especially if Austin
27:26Hooper comes back, if they are looking day two, cause I do think tight ends
27:29of need get that, like, you know, tight end generally takes longer
27:34developed than the other positions.
27:35All right.
27:36You have Hooper.
27:36He's 30.
27:37He's got two more years.
27:38You get the next guy and now you start developing him.
27:40I think you can do that on day three, especially in what
27:42is a good tight end class.
27:43They want to do it on day two.
27:45Gunnar Helms, one Mason Taylor's another.
27:47I really liked for them on day three.
27:49It's it's Jake Brenningstuhl from Clemson, Terrence Ferguson from
27:53Oregon bringing stool a little quicker, a little more of a vertical threat.
27:57Ferguson's more overpowering.
27:59I think they both probably play in the Josh McDaniels offense.
28:02You're kind of getting down to the details there.
28:05This will be a good week to kind of separate the two, see who stands out.
28:08I also wonder if like late on day three, um, later on day three, the real
28:12project is Gavin Bartholomew from Pitt who had a really good first year in
28:172021 as a freshman, and then just that offense imploded with different
28:21offensive coordinators and different quarterbacks, and we talked about
28:24this a lot last year with Bob means kind of that same thing.
28:26It's tough to get a real grip on who he is, but he is, he does
28:31look like an NFL ready blocker.
28:33So you could draft him, make him your third blocking tight end.
28:36And he, you know, he is kind of, you know, nimble on his feet for a guy
28:39that size has some good change of direction.
28:41You figure it out there.
28:42I also wouldn't rule out.
28:44Do you just want a pure blocking tight end?
28:46Do they just look at it, especially if Austin Hooper comes back
28:49and these guys are good, let's just get a guy we can throw in
28:52there when we want to go heavy.
28:53And they're Dwayne Allen.
28:54They need their Dwayne Allen back, right?
28:57So that to me, if you, if you want that guy, that's Jackson
28:59Hawes from Georgia tech, he'll be there this week.
29:02Um, so that's, that's kind of the tight end zone and then fan and fan.
29:07And I think is going to end up being a top 50 pick, which is
29:10too high for them for a tight end.
29:12But he's another one of these guys where just his week is going to be
29:14interesting to watch because smaller school guy, there's a little more
29:18variance in his draft stock based on this week, a little more unproven.
29:21Yeah.
29:22All right.
29:23Good stuff.
29:24Offensive tackles.
29:25Uh, unfortunately no, will this is the main event or, or
29:28Kelvin banks in attendance.
29:29So we don't get, uh, our measurements, uh, on those guys, but I would say
29:34the tackles in attendance, the top guys right in that we call it the second
29:40pick range, right, where maybe it's not 38, but maybe you're moving up back
29:43half of the first round, uh, and you're looking at these guys with your second
29:47pick, it's Josh Connerly, uh, from Oregon, someone who had a really good
29:50second half of the year and kind of boosted his stock, uh, Ariante
29:54Ursary from Minnesota, a really big, powerful left tackle.
29:58Those two are probably the top two guys.
30:01Uh, Armand, uh, Membu from Missouri.
30:04He's a right tackle though, but he's someone who could go in the first round,
30:08you know, back in the first round, uh, as well.
30:11So those are probably the top three, two of those left tackles.
30:14It's where we're looking left tackles, Josh Connerly, uh, and Ariante Ursary.
30:18Uh, what are your thoughts on those guys?
30:20And then, you know, maybe some of those guys later on day two
30:24that, that are in attendance.
30:26So Connerly Ursary, this is the main event.
30:28This is the main event, right?
30:29We're all going to come out of this week.
30:31All right.
30:31So they're taking ab it's a good, sorry to cut you off, but it's a
30:34good defensive line and edge class.
30:36So they will, they will have their tests.
30:38We will get to, and they're both, I think they're both on the American team.
30:41Right.
30:41I know they're both on the same team.
30:43So, uh, I'll look, I think I have it here.
30:47If you want to check out my preview, it's in there 98, five, the sports
30:50.com.
30:51Um, they're both on the national team.
30:52Sorry.
30:53So we're literally going to get to see them like back to back.
30:56It's going to be right there against the same competition.
30:59I, I, the phrase I keep using main event.
31:01This is what we're all coming for.
31:02We're all going to come out of this week.
31:03Right.
31:04Okay.
31:04So you take Abdul Carter at the top.
31:06You take Travis Hunter at the top.
31:07You take Ted McMillan at the top.
31:09Who are you getting for that second tackle?
31:11We're all going to come out of this week.
31:13Team Josh Connerly, team Ariante Ursary.
31:15They win differently.
31:17Connerly is more technically sound.
31:18Ursary is just athletic and powerful, right?
31:21He's more raw, but he's more overpowering.
31:24So it might just be a flavor thing.
31:26It might just be, what is your philosophy rather than who's outright better.
31:30But this, this is the big story to come out of the week for the
31:34senior bowl for the Patriots.
31:36Uh, other tackles I'm looking at.
31:38I'm fascinated by Anthony Belton.
31:40He's another one of these massive tackles.
31:41I, did you see his measurements today?
31:43I didn't get a chance to look them up.
31:45He was five, three 54.
31:47I have them right here.
31:47Cause I was looking up Ursary.
31:49Just back to him was a six, five, three 40, 34 arms for him.
31:54Okay.
31:55Ursary.
31:56I think Connerly at 34 arms too, which was Connerly was a six, four,
32:02three, 13, 34 inch arms.
32:05Benton was, uh, six, five, three 45, 34 in five eighths arms.
32:14So that's on the arms.
32:16So look, Belton, the reason Ursary can play left tackle and Josh McDaniel
32:21system at his size is freak athleticism, which Belton doesn't have.
32:24Belton is a people mover.
32:26He is a just bulldozer.
32:30He does profile.
32:31Like when I look at him, he's a Josh McDaniels, right?
32:34Tackle.
32:34Now I know people who watch the show.
32:36No, I'm like super anti-moving tackles.
32:39This is a case where I'm kind of okay with it for one.
32:43You're going left to right, not right to left.
32:44Easier to, I think the plan specifically with a guy like Belton, why he in
32:50particular interests me, he has played left and you have that box checked right?
32:57Tackle.
32:57You might have an answer in Cain Wallace.
33:00You're not sure in Belton.
33:02We're not talking about a guy at the top of the draft, right?
33:04We're talking about a guy probably middle of day too.
33:07Like they could definitely get him at 38.
33:09You might be able to move back from 38 and get them.
33:11Um, you know, unless he has an unbelievable week this week.
33:14So to me, it's like, if you draft Belton, you get them training
33:17from day one at right tackle.
33:19And even if he's not ready right away, you have Cain Wallace
33:26and you kind of head your bets.
33:27So if Cain Wallace doesn't work out, you have Belton who has all
33:31the tools and you can give a shot.
33:34And even if all right, Wallace is the guy, you now have a potential swing
33:39tackle, you have that third tackle in Belton who would probably be solid
33:43in that role, so it's a unique scenario.
33:46I hope we see Belton play a little bit on the right side this week.
33:49So we can get a gauge of where he's at over there.
33:51They're usually pretty good at flipping those guys.
33:53They are.
33:53Yeah.
33:53I'd be surprised if we don't see it.
33:55Um, so Belton really interests me.
33:57The other right tackles, Marcus Mabow is a little higher up.
34:00Aussie trip pillow from Boston college, who I think you mentioned
34:02that's a day three, right?
34:03Tackle.
34:04I wouldn't hate them grabbing a right tackle, especially if they end up
34:08moving down, get an extra day to pick, um, you know, somebody to hedge
34:12their bets on Caden Wallace.
34:13I'm still not out on Caden Wallace.
34:15I wouldn't go that far, but if it's okay, we have Caden Wallace and we
34:20have Anthony Belton or we have Caden Wallace and we have Aussie trip pillow.
34:25And you know, you got those guys early on day three.
34:27Well, now you have options, right?
34:29So if one doesn't work out, you can move it.
34:31So I'm not out on the right tackles entirely.
34:35Belton fascinates me, but not, not at the top of the draft.
34:38Yeah.
34:39Trip pillow will be interesting just again with those BC ties, you
34:42know, the variable Billy Oh connection.
34:43Now, Doug Marone is here who worked closely with them, you know,
34:46six, seven, 33 and a half inch arms.
34:49Uh, so maybe he is an option.
34:51Uh, Kane double a seven in the chat likes Wyatt Milliam.
34:55I'm sorry.
34:56He measured in with under 33.
34:58I think it was like 32 and a F in a fourth today.
35:01So he's going to be a guard, uh, same with a gray stable.
35:05Yeah.
35:06Same with gray's able from North Dakota state, both short arm guys.
35:09They're going to move inside.
35:12Uh, at the next level, I think Mellon's going to be a hell of a
35:14guard or a hell of a sample, but that's just, you're not taking.
35:20Uh, a guard that high.
35:22They need a left guard, but not, not up there.
35:26Yeah.
35:26Uh, anyone else in that, that tackle class?
35:29Uh, I think we Jack Nelson, my, my, my badger, he's another big guy.
35:34He didn't, they didn't do his measurements either.
35:36So I don't know if he's going to be there, but, um, I, I, um,
35:41I'll just say on the inside, I'm bummed.
35:44Jared Wilson's not going.
35:45He was a late opt out after a long season.
35:47It's center.
35:48I thought he might be, I guess I could still draft him.
35:50It doesn't change anything, but I was looking forward to watching
35:52them, uh, a good day three project center for them to maybe get
35:55that next guy in the pipeline.
35:57Yep.
35:59But yep.
35:59Connerly Ursary.
36:00Those are the, uh, the big guys.
36:02So at, at the tackle spot.
36:04So we'll see what those guys do, uh, on the left side.
36:08So let's flip over to that defensive line.
36:10They'll be going against, but before we do that, I want to
36:12tell you guys about game time.
36:15We all love going to games.
36:17I know there's only one football game left, but there's still plenty of hockey.
36:21Basketball, uh, college basketball.
36:24It's called basketball season.
36:25Really now that, uh, um, you know, football is coming to an end and we get
36:29all of our tickets on the game time app and they have a new feature called
36:33game time picks that makes getting tickets to see your favorite teams
36:36play live even easier because they filter out the fluff to show you only
36:40incredible deals on great seats.
36:41So you don't have to waste time searching through thousands of tickets.
36:45The rockets are at the Celtics tonight.
36:47TD garden.
36:47If you want to run over, if you're up in the city, uh, after you listen
36:51to our senior bowl preview, seven 30.

37:43What time is it?
37:45Game time.
37:46All right.
37:47Defensive line.
37:48Uh, let's start with more of the edge rushers.
37:51Uh, we have another local BC guy, Donovan as a Rocky, who was second in the
37:56country and sacks this year with 16 and a half, one of those speed rushers.
38:00Um, you know, Kyle canard I'll learn how to say princely.
38:06Human, a loon last name who went to Ole miss that's on our, that's on our radar
38:11this week, learning his last name.
38:13But, you know, you look at this Terrell Williams defense and they do have some
38:18of these wide speed rushers, which not, you know, typical from what we've had
38:23in the past few years here, uh, in new England.
38:25So some of those speed rushers could be on their radar.
38:28Who are you looking for, uh, out of this group in, in the senior bowl?
38:33Uh, um, an alien is one.
38:35I tried that right.
38:37Uh, Kyle canard is another one.
38:40I really like his fit, his ability to get up the field, be aggressive.
38:43There's also some guys that profile more is like pass rushing, defensive
38:47ends more than outside linebackers, which if you're going to get, um,
38:54you know, if you're going to sign a guy like Josh sweat, then, you know,
38:56it has a guy like Landon Jackson suddenly start to make some sense.
39:01I, I, there, there's a lot of good, you know, edge rushers in this, in this
39:06group, it's kind of going to be again about like stylistically,
39:09what are they looking for?
39:11Yep.
39:12Um, the other one, everyone was the way in Mike green from Marshall.
39:18Uh, he jumped up to two 50.
39:20So he passed that test, but, um, you know, we played at Marshall.
39:23I think he started at Virginia.
39:24He transferred to Marshall, led the country in sacks was 17, like
39:28really explosive twitchy player.
39:30But now you're going up against, you know, the Josh Connerly's and
39:33Ariante, our series guys in the big 10.
39:35So it'll be interesting to see how he plays, you know, as a Rocky again from BC.
39:39I do like canard.
39:41Um, but there, there will be some good, some good at rushers there.
39:45Landon Jackson, if they want one, uh, like a later round, pure speed rusher,
39:49like Josiah Stewart, uh, from Michigan could be an option.
39:52So there are some intriguing kind of
39:54speed, like late, or is he going to be one of these guys that just like the
39:57Michigan tie, somebody takes him to
39:58that just jumps up.
40:00I kind of get that vibe with him.
40:01Yeah.
40:02I could see it.
40:03I would still think it's day three, but.
40:06Maybe, maybe squeaks into the back of the, like, if he goes off this weekend,
40:09like maybe it goes up to, it is a really good edge rusher class.
40:13Yeah.
40:13So some good guys there, uh, in attendance, good guys on the interior
40:18to, uh, Deon Walker Deon Walker, maybe all eyes on Deon Walker.
40:23Um, my guy, I know you go, go off on Deon Walker.
40:27Well, what are you?
40:28Checked in at three, seven, six, seven, three, four.
40:32Did he get over three 50, three 53, three 53.
40:36And so again, six, seven, three 53, you go and you look at the
40:39scouting reports on the internet.
40:41You know what name keeps coming up or what word keeps coming up?
40:44Nimble six, seven, three 53 nimble is an athlete there in the middle.
40:51He is an excellent pass rusher and they move around like he'll play tackle.
40:55He'll play end.
40:57They stood him up and played him an outside linebacker.
40:59Occasionally.
41:00Imagine trying to get out to the end on a 353 pound guy
41:05coming from a two point stance.
41:06He might run a sub five.
41:08And before you look at me, like I'm crazy.
41:10Remember I said that about Jordan Davis and Evan mocked me for the rest of that
41:13show, Jordan Davis is going to run a sub five.
41:15I don't think he's Jordan Davis.
41:16I don't, but he's from that mold and the sorry.
41:21Like, why isn't he going as high?
41:23He was projected to be like a top 20 pick.
41:25And then his production dip tremendously this year.
41:28And there are some concerns about focus, which he's going to have to interview.
41:31Well, that's absolutely a part of it.
41:34And, um, on top of that, he's not a really good run player, which you think
41:38is crazy at three 53, but he's so big that it's like, there's all
41:42this frame to get up and hit them.
41:44So, you know, it, it, that B at that size, I believe he can
41:50become a functional run player.
41:51It might not happen right away, but I think he can.
41:54And if he's just a functional run stopper and an elite pass
41:57rusher from the interior, that's a guy, another good thing about him.
42:00Those guys, usually you have stamina concerns.
42:03He like, didn't come off the field for Kentucky.
42:05So that's a guy that can play on all three downs can get after the quarterback.
42:09He's going to be a factor in the run game.
42:11I don't think he's ever going to be like, you know, Casey Hayward,
42:14but he's a factor in a run game.
42:17Um, it would be an absolute steal if they can get him at 38 really would.
42:24I assuming the interview stuff checks out and then I'll, I'll go one step
42:28further too, so a lot of people are probably hearing this and going, well,
42:32then, you know, why don't you want Mason Graham?
42:34You've been out on Mason Graham.
42:35I think that pick is too valuable to take a player where.
42:40You know, one, is it a position where you already have a star player and
42:43two, is it a non-premium position?
42:45So I I'm out on Mason Graham, assuming Barmore is coming back.
42:49Dion Walker fascinates me, but let's say, all right, well, you're being a
42:52hypocrite 38, still too much.
42:54How about Cam Jackson from Florida?
42:58Kind of the same guy.
42:59Six, six, three 53 is another one of these like hyperathletic
43:03oversized defensive tackles.
43:06He's a lot more raw than Walker.
43:07He doesn't have the, as much experience.
43:09He just transferred to Florida from Memphis.
43:11Uh, he doesn't have the production that Walker did at that monster 2023 season.
43:16So he's a little more of a project.
43:17He's a little further away, but if you believe in Terrell Williams and his
43:21coaching staff and what they've done coaching up defensive linemen, that's
43:26maybe a guy and he'll be at the senior bowl as well and started talking about
43:29him, Cam Jackson is another guy you could turn to and say, if you want that
43:33kind of player, maybe this is the guy.
43:35So if Cam Jackson has a good week, that'd be super exciting to see as well.
43:40Yeah.
43:40Dion Walker is the main show.
43:42I would say he might not be the best defensive tackle there, but he's
43:45probably, uh, the, the main show.
43:47Cause he could use a really good week cause there were, you know, stretches
43:50and games this year where he kind of disappeared, but do you have there?
43:55What team he's on?
43:57Uh, I do not, I can look it up, but, uh, yeah, the, the size is elite.
44:03The athletic ability for that size is special, but, um, I was, I don't want
44:09to compare them to Chris Jones, but just watching the game last night, you know,
44:13they were talking about how, you know, Chris Jones has a smaller lower body
44:18and they were, you know, some teams were concerned about that coming out, but he's
44:21just so powerful with his upper body that it works, right?
44:25Like he makes it work.
44:26And that kind of reminded me of Dion Walker because he is, you know, most of
44:30his power does come from his upper half.
44:32So if, if he can make that work, um, you know, again, we entered the year
44:37with him as a, as a top 21st round pick.
44:39So if he has a good week, he can kind of get back to that.
44:42Um, I, I just want, I'm curious if, um, Walker is going against
44:48Ursary and Connerly.
44:51I was trying to pull up the team's roster on the website and they're
44:55like buried on their Twitter.
44:56They were weird about their rosters up this year.
44:58I don't like how they did the, uh, the measurements too.
45:02Like they did one, like I think last year they grouped it by positions
45:05this year, like they did every year.
45:07Yeah.
45:08They did them individually on Twitter last year, but they didn't
45:10put the player's name in the tweet.
45:12So they're like impossible to search.
45:15Hang on.
45:15Here's the rosters.
45:16Let's see.
45:17Defensive line.
45:19Uh, he is on, he's on the American team.
45:23So if they play in a game, we'll have to wait till the game
45:25to see them go head to head.
45:28All right.
45:29He'll be, uh, the best American offensive lineman.
45:32It was probably Mambo from Missouri.
45:34So that's a heavyweight battle.
45:37Yeah.
45:38Which team's a belt in them.
45:41He is, he's not on the American roster, so I'm assuming
45:47he's on the national roster.
45:51Yeah.
45:52They're all the good linemen are on national and Cameron
45:55Jackson's on American too.
45:56So, all right.
45:58We won't get national is they even have like Zabel and Wyatt
46:01Millam, Belton Connerly, Ursery.
46:05Who are the good offensive line?
46:06He's going up against her.
46:06Emory Jones.
46:07All right.
46:08Uh, members on members on the American.
46:11We'll see him, uh, your guy, Jack Nelson.
46:15That's kind of it.
46:16So, all right.
46:16We'll have to wait till the game for that one.
46:18All right.
46:19But, um, uh, other defensive line or interior defensive lineman.
46:23I love, uh, Walt, Walter Nolan from Ole Miss.
46:26Like that's another kind of smaller, like he's obviously not the Walker size,
46:31but he is violent, very explosive to that Ole Miss defensive line was very
46:36fun, uh, to watch this last year.
46:38And Walter Nolan was at, uh, the middle of it a lot of times.
46:41And then one of the more interesting guys, I think Omar
46:44Norman lots from Tennessee.
46:46He another like fires off the ball, really explosive guy.
46:50He led the country in pass rush win rate, but he only played.
46:54Over 21 snaps one time this season.
46:58So I don't know what was going on with Tennessee's defensive line there, but
47:02yeah, he was, I think he averaged like 16, 17 snaps a game
47:05there on the defensive line.
47:07So we'll, we'll see what it looks like this week.
47:10Uh, if he gets a little bit more run there, but he is, you know, another one
47:14of those interior pass rushers.
47:16Um, so, so we'll watch him, but I think, uh, like later day three run
47:20stoppers to bolstering that group.
47:22I mean, and you can get, you know, these guys fall cause they're not valued as
47:26much, but you know, yeah, yeah.
47:27Black from Iowa, Jamar Caldwell from Oregon.
47:31Another guy that interests me and he's kind of his own thing is
47:34Ty Robinson from Nebraska.
47:36Kind of reminds me a little bit of Lawrence guy.
47:40You can play them on the edge on early downs can set the edge against the run,
47:44things like that, but as a little bit of juice, you want to move
47:47them inside to rush the passer.
47:49Um, also I think has that like leadership quotient thing was a big
47:53part of Nebraska's run early in the season.
47:56I'll be interested to see what he can do.
47:58Yep.
47:59Alfred Collins to Texas.
48:00Like if you want that late round kind of run stopper, he's the one guy.
48:05I there's always one of those guys that goes early and I think he's
48:08going to be the one that goes.
48:10Yeah.
48:10Yeah.
48:11I mean, he would absolutely fit that mold.
48:13He's not going to give you much as a, a pass rusher, but he's probably
48:16one of the, you know, biggest, strongest defensive tackles who can
48:19just, you know, dominate in the run game.
48:22So, uh, he'll be a good one as well.
48:24Um, all right.
48:26Yeah.
48:26A lot of, a lot of eyes in the trenches as expected.
48:29That's always those one-on-ones are always some of the best
48:32parts of the senior bowl, but, uh, linebackers, I haven't done much
48:37work on the linebackers to be honest, but anyone you're kind of looking
48:40at from that, that linebacker group.
48:43So I kind of played catch up with the linebackers yesterday.
48:45Uh, the good news, uh, let's just bad news, really not a ton of
48:49like stud linebackers in this group.
48:51These are almost exclusively day three guys.
48:53Now, some of that is just the position has been devalued.
48:56That doesn't mean they're bad players, but the top linebackers
48:59in the class are not here.
49:00That being said, the good news, I do think there are some players that
49:03can help the Patriots because really what they need, by the way, good
49:07Paul, a good poll here, Chris Paul, but he is at the shrine bowl.
49:11Um, another one where I think the shrine bowl might've might have a
49:13better group of linebackers, but the linebackers that are there, part
49:17of the reason that they're projected lower is most of them are situational
49:21players, they're not three down players, but the situation they pretty
49:24much all fit is that like passing down coverage linebacker, which is
49:29what the Patriots need, the guy next to John Bentley, they just, they
49:32need to replace Mack Wilson, right.
49:34As that sideline to sideline coverage linebacker.
49:37And that's where you get a ton of these guys, especially if they're doing
49:41more, you know, those four man fronts, you know, and two linebackers
49:45under Terrell Williams, you need a little bit more athleticism
49:47there at the second level.
49:49So the bigger name ones are Smale Mondin.
49:52I think I pronounced that right.
49:53S M A E L Smale Mondin, Jeffrey bossa.
49:57Uh, a couple of guys that really interests me though, Demetrius night.
50:00So night, like his athleticism.
50:03So the tricky thing is if you're the Patriots, assuming they're going to
50:07keep some of that old school Patriots identity, you can find coverage
50:12linebackers, but there's linebackers now that are 215, 220 pounds.
50:16And you want a guy that can still handle himself in the run
50:19game a little bit more.
50:20Right.
50:20And is a little bit bigger.
50:21So you're trying to find these guys that are in a rare percentile
50:26for, you know, size and athleticism.
50:28Demetrius night from South Carolina is one of these guys, six to two 47, but
50:33he's viewed as one of the more athletic linebackers in this class, uh, has the
50:37size to cover tight ends is the speed to cover running backs, the big knock on him.
50:41The reason he's supposed to go on day three, oddly enough for a guy that
50:44size is not a great tackler and that's not something we'll see him do it
50:48on this week until the game.
50:49But if you just want him in coverage, he's an interesting guy.
50:52Um, Kareem Reed from Utah is another one.
50:56He's a little more undersized five 11 to 30.
50:59If you're drafting him to be your main off ball linebacker, he's probably too
51:03small if he's going to be on the field with Juwan Bentley, that plays a little
51:08bit better, very experienced player, uh, has the instincts, has the football IQ.
51:13Another guy that has that leadership ability.
51:16Called signals on Utah's defense.
51:18And I know everybody always gets on college football defenses being
51:21oversimplified and everybody's running like one of three calls, blah, blah,
51:24blah.
51:25The Utah defense is an exception.
51:27The Kyle Whittingham defense is an exception.
51:29That was a complex defense.
51:30He was in the middle of it.
51:31And then the wild card is Nick Martin from Oklahoma state.
51:35Another he's got the size, tremendous athlete, good feeling.
51:40Coverage is also a plus pass rusher.
51:42If you want to use him that way, he can be a chess piece.
51:45But he only has one full year of experience.
51:47That was two years ago.
51:49He missed most of the year last year with a knee injury.
51:52I don't think anybody really has a good read on him right now.
51:54So a game like this for guy like him is going to hold a little bit more weight.
51:59Yep.
52:00Uh, the UCLA backer too, is kind of in that mold of like a coverage guy.
52:06He wasn't on the rosters though.
52:08Oh, I thought he was, did they talk about, uh, it's, uh, I still have people, uh,
52:13starts with an S this, I, I just pulled it up right here.
52:18Yeah.
52:18Well, we'll get the names down.
52:19We got Kingsley down last year, we'll get the names down.
52:23You have to, this is a good week.
52:24Cause you actually get to hear them say it on the watch.
52:28The like, they don't, there's no announcers on the tape.
52:31Like you have to go to a highlight reel sometimes to hear how
52:33these guys pronounce the name.
52:34So it's good to have a commentator there who actually says these
52:38guys names for us this time.
52:39But, um, he is more of that, you know, coverage guy is not great against the
52:44run, but if you want that, so I, I didn't, he wasn't on when they
52:47tweeted out the rosters, he wasn't on there.
52:49Okay.
52:49So maybe he fell off, maybe something changed because I like him.
52:53I do.
52:53I, he was going to be kind of the guy I highlighted in my
52:55preview and then wasn't there.
52:57All right.
52:58Um, but he's a good player, like good, good name to know.
53:01Good name to bring up.
53:02Yep.
53:03Uh, corners.
53:05I love Azaria Thomas.
53:07He's probably my favorite non Travis Hunter corner in this draft.
53:12Like if you want a guy opposite Christian Gonzalez, who can just
53:16play press man, like this is your guy.
53:18He is very good.
53:19Uh, I wouldn't be surprised though, if he shoots up, uh, the draft boards,
53:23especially if he dominates one on ones, like I kind of expect him to.
53:26So Azaria Thomas is my number one corner in attendance.
53:29Uh, who else are you looking at from that, from that cornerback room here?
53:33I mean, there's a lot, this is another one where there's only one type of
53:37player or it's dominated by one type of player, and if you don't need that
53:41type of player, that kind of sucks.
53:42But the Patriots need size at the cornerback position.
53:44There's a lot of big physical outside guys.
53:47I really like Thomas.
53:48Um, you know, I'm fascinated by Darian Porter.
53:51I was a big juju Brent's guy two years ago.
53:53Here we go again.
53:54Just mauler corner from the big 12.
53:57He doesn't need to be your number one guy.
53:58You just need to play opposite Gonzalez.
54:00Gonzalez will take the speed receivers.
54:02He's going to take the physical receivers.
54:04Um, he's a, he's a kind of a weird one because he only has one full year of
54:09experience, but he's gonna be a 24 year old rookie, so he's really going to need
54:13to show this week that he's like ready, but could be a guy that because of his
54:17age falls a little bit, another one of these players though, that I'm like
54:21super fascinated to see this week.
54:23And I think the Patriots probably can wait a little bit on corner
54:27ball cone from Western Michigan.
54:30It has this, he's not like massive, right?
54:33I wouldn't put him in the same class for it.
54:34I think he's like six, one, one 90 long arm.
54:37So he has the size play on the boundary has experience in man and zone has
54:42been a competitive player in both.
54:44Uh, it's just about, you know, he's coming from Western Michigan.
54:47We haven't really seen him against Lee competition.
54:50He did have a good game when Western Michigan played Ohio state this year.
54:54And that's going to hold a lot of weight, but let's see it
54:56against some of these other guys.
54:57You know, I go back to Quinnian Mitchell and I don't think he's quite
55:00the player Quinnian Mitchell was.
55:01I don't think we're going to be talking about him in the first round of
55:03Quinnian Mitchell was coming from the Mac and needed to show he could do
55:07it against power for talent did that.
55:10And it totally translated.
55:11And again, I ball cones, not quite that athlete.
55:15He doesn't have quite that length, but he's a guy that like, if he has a good
55:18week this week, now you start talking about, I see a fringe top 100 player.
55:23And if it's at the end of the third, the beginning of the fourth,
55:25like he might have the makeup.
55:28You're not drafting him to be dominant number one corner.
55:32You're drafting him to ideally be the guy opposite Christian Gonzalez.
55:35And I think he might have that potential.
55:38Yep.
55:39Yeah.
55:39I like, you know, you'd let off with Darian Porter there as well.
55:42Like really good length over 33 inch arms.
55:44Good athlete to four block hunts to Taylor keeps popping in Taylor.
55:50Do you want to join us?
55:52What's up?
55:53Oh, hang on.
55:54What's up?
55:56That messed everything up.
55:57Didn't it?
55:58There we go.
55:59What's going on.
55:59How's Alabama?
56:01Uh, Alabama.
56:02Honestly, the spot we're at has like a ton of really good food spots, but
56:05that's about as much as I've seen.
56:06We literally got our, yeah, we like got our credentials.
56:11Uh, we had like a two hour drive from where were we earlier from New Orleans.
56:16Um, where we're going to be next week for Superbowl media stuff.
56:18But, uh, yeah, honestly not a whole lot to report from today.
56:21Um, but really nice town that we're in right now.
56:24So we're just about to wrap up our preview.
56:28So give us the number one player.
56:29You're excited to watch while you're down there.
56:31Any position, honestly, right now, Anthony Benton, I just
56:34want to see this dude like move.
56:37See if maybe he can be a little more consistent.
56:39I know that's an issue with him, but like he's a mountain of a man and I
56:42really, he seems like a perfect Josh McDaniels, right?
56:44Tackle kind of guy.
56:45So I'm very much looking forward to seeing what he can do.
56:49All right.
56:50We did talk on Anthony Benton.
56:52Are you up?
56:53Are you up live in a second here?
56:54Is that why you are?
56:56Okay.
56:57We'll wrap up and then we'll, we'll let you, you take over.
57:00So thanks for, thanks for calling in.
57:02See you boys.
57:03Yeah.
57:04Good stuff.
57:06I'll give you one more corner real quick.
57:07Uh, Maxwell Harrison from Kentucky was hurt a lot of this year.
57:10So that's another guy just like a little more impactful week for him
57:13than maybe some of these other guys.
57:15All right.
57:16Uh, any safeties?
57:18Yes.
57:18Uh, Andrew McCuba from Texas.
57:21He also left his measurements off.
57:23So I hope he plays.
57:25Cause he is, he's fun to watch.
57:26If you want to play off, you certainly saw him flying around.
57:31He's fun to watch.
57:32So hopefully he makes it in there, but we'll, we'll see.
57:34And they need that true free safety.
57:35If not him, Billy Bowman from Oklahoma.
57:37That's kind of the day three guy is a true free safety.
57:40Jonas Sankar from Virginia projects is that hybrid.
57:43Deep box safety.
57:44They look at, you know, we've got to throw in Dan Jackson as, as special
57:48teams guy to watch, uh, as well.
57:51Yep.
57:51And Hunter Waller, another badger.
57:53He's, he was really fun to watch.
57:55He's just a football player, but he's in that kind of box safety mold, which I
57:58don't know if they need another one of those, but yeah, Hunter Waller's.
58:03Good, good football player.
58:04And last two kickers, Ryan Fitzgerald, Caden Davis, we're doing kickers again.
58:09So keep an eye on those guys.
58:11Those are the, I'll say this.
58:12So I don't think either one's a future Patriot.
58:14If they go, if they fall back on that rule of thumb, which is a good one,
58:17you want guys experience kicking and inclement weather.
58:20Caden Davis was a Texan.
58:21I'm an old miss.
58:22Ryan Fitzgerald has been a Florida state.
58:24His whole career, Florida state's been good, but this is where, again,
58:27I go back to the shrine bowl.
58:28You need a kicker better call.
58:30Saul's Ben Saul's from pit went, uh, five for five on kicks
58:35of over 50 yards last year.
58:37There you go.
58:37So, all right, that is our senior bowl positional preview.
58:42Again, practices Tuesday through Thursday game on Saturday.
58:47Uh, we will let you know.
58:48I know last year, I think we did a show after every practice.
58:52Uh, I'm not sure if that's the exact plan, but we will let you guys
58:54know what the plans are on Twitter.
