00:28All right, Greg, before we get the Dolphins Patriots, Alex Van Peltz met with the media
00:32today and he had something very interesting to say.
00:36Van Peltz told the media that he had no idea that Marcus Jones had played offense before.
00:44What was your reaction when you saw that?
00:48Basically this, my hand on my face, like seriously, this is the, this is the gang that can't shoot
00:55straight.
00:57Oh my God.
00:59Like really?
01:01I mean, I don't even know where to start.
01:05I mean, you know, Gerard Mayo is the head coach of this team.
01:09He's been around.
01:10He's seen Marcus Jones play offense.
01:14Never one time mentioned, especially, okay, I can see maybe in the off season or, you
01:18know, when they're getting ready for the season, like they just want to worry about, they got
01:22a rookie quarterback, they got a new scheme.
01:24They're just worried about that.
01:25But you know, I don't know, three, four or five games in the season when the offense
01:29like stunk the join up and they're looking for any way to create explosive plays and
01:34do anything on offense.
01:35Like Gerard doesn't say something like, Hey, you know, you may want to try Marcus Jones,
01:41you know, reverse or run or something like that.
01:44Like he's, he's been pretty good.
01:46I mean, yeah, he's playing a lot on defense and he, and he does punt returns, but you
01:50know, we might be able to do a couple of plays a game for him.
01:52You should check that out.
01:54Why don't you go watch his film from last year or, you know, I, I guess it must've been
01:59a couple of years ago.
02:00I, cause I'm trying to think, you know, cause he was hurt most of last year.
02:04Wasn't he?
02:05Yeah.
02:06Yeah.
02:07Yeah.
02:08So it would have been two years ago when he played some on offense or what have you.
02:11So I can see why AVP didn't notice it.
02:14He probably just watched the previous year's film.
02:16I mean, why go two years back on a lot of these guys with what's gone on with this offense
02:21and people coming in and out.
02:22So he probably just looked back at last year and it never came up, but I mean, this is,
02:26this is something else that I just put on the head coach and just be like, you know,
02:31what are we doing here?
02:32Seriously?
02:33Like, let's, let's, let's be on top of things.
02:36Yeah.
02:37He only played two games last year, started one.
02:39So, you know, not a lot of time you go back to his rookie season, he played in 15 games.
02:44That's when he was getting some offensive snaps.
02:46You know, I look at it not only at AVP, but also as you said, Greg, the rest of the staff,
02:50it's not just Mayo, but you have several coaches that were on the staff last year and
02:55nobody brought this up.
02:56Nobody brought this to Van Pelt's attention.
02:59And I also want to say this.
03:00I think it was Zoe.
03:02I'm not sure, but I think it was Zoe on Patriots all access that asked Mayo about utilizing
03:08Marcus Jones on offense.
03:11This was either last week's episode or two weeks ago.
03:14And Mayo's response was, well, you know, he's a defensive player.
03:18And so I, I just find it interesting that a week or two ago, Mayo's asked about Marcus
03:23Jones playing offense and he brushes it aside saying, well, you know, he's a cornerback,
03:28he's a defender and a punt returner.
03:30And then a week or two later, he's out there getting offensive snaps.
03:33Even if it were only, you know, two snaps, two snaps is two more than he had the entire
03:38year.
03:39So, you know, is this a situation again of, of Mayo, I don't know, throwing stuff up against
03:46the wall, not having a clear plan as to how to utilize players in certain spots.
03:51It's just all strange.
03:53Van Pelt also spoke about the interception from Drake May last week against LA.
03:58There's been a lot of back and forth about whose fault this was.
04:01Was it maze?
04:02Was it pops?
04:03Well, Van Pelt said today, Greg, that may made the right read on the pick.
04:09So certainly sounds like the offensive coordinator is putting that on pop Douglas more than he
04:14is the rookie quarterback.
04:15Yeah, it's, it sounds like it.
04:18I also, um, you know, he, he did say something about like he would, if he, if he looked,
04:24he might've had a chance to catch the ball.
04:27Um, uh, you know, I still, I, he didn't say it was a good throw.
04:33I still think the throw would have been problematic at the end of it.
04:36Like Drake was, uh, sort of got off balance.
04:39His feet were really narrow.
04:41He was throwing off of like one foot and the, he kind of sprayed the ball.
04:45Um, but the only thing I'll add to that is look, if pop was wrong, then Hunter Henry
04:51and Cation booty were wrong too, because they were all, they all had their head down, um,
04:56well after may release the ball.
04:58So to me, that's, that's a coaching point.
05:02Um, I think at this point I would put it on coaching that they, you know, weren't quite
05:08dialed in and ready for that situation on, you know, hopefully they corrected in practice
05:12this week, just so annoyed with, and we'll get into the rookies in a minute, what van
05:17Pelt had to say about the rookies, but I really am annoyed, frustrated by the fact that wide
05:23receivers seemingly, uh, you know, have so many mistakes on the field over the last few
05:30years at that position.
05:32And you just, we talked about Troy Brown and, you know, well, maybe Troy Brown, wasn't a
05:36great coach.
05:38They move on from Brown.
05:39He's hiding in an undisclosed area at Gillette stadium during the week.
05:43I don't even know what the hell he's doing.
05:45He's getting a paycheck from the crafts.
05:47I know that, but you move on from Troy, then you bring Hughes in.
05:52Doesn't seem like Hughes is doing a good job, but can we get a wide receivers coach in the
05:56building that knows his ass from his elbow?
05:58Can we try to do that once in a decade?
06:01I know.
06:02You, you know, you sort of look back to, you know, Mac Jones's rookie year.
06:07And um, you know, of course I was getting into it with some people on Twitter about
06:11this because God forbid you mentioned Mac Jones was, it was highly efficient at times
06:16during his rookie year, especially in the first half of the season.
06:19Um, but just, you know, sort of the job that coaching, uh, coaching staff did, especially
06:24offensively.
06:25Um, you know, I think it was Mick Lombardi was the wide receivers coach at the time.
06:30And really the weapons aren't all that different or I wouldn't say that the 20, uh, what would
06:34that have been?
06:352020 weapons were all that much better.
06:37I mean, yeah, they spent money, but you know, like I've said before, Kendrick Bourne basically
06:41needed his handheld, um, through Saturday to get him through Sunday.
06:46Um, we all know about Johnnie Smith's issues here.
06:50Nelson Aguilar was part of that.
06:53Um, yeah, I think, I think, um, yeah, I would like it.
06:59Just in my experience covering the league, Nick, the guys that I thought did the best
07:04job were sort of well traveled, older wide receivers coaches like, um, you know, there
07:14was a guy, I think his name was Jerry Sullivan.
07:16Those guys I covered, they all seem to be the same.
07:18They were sort of like in their late sixties, but these guys were hard asses.
07:23They were taskmasters.
07:24I mean, you know, the, the Packers did a great job of developing, I think it was Jimmy Robbins
07:30was the wide receivers coach and, and, um, you know, the, the Packers did a great job
07:35of developing, uh, wide receivers in that system.
07:38And I think it, I think it starts with the coach.
07:40I think you're absolutely right.
07:41I think that's gotta be one of the priorities this off season.
07:45Here's a name for you, Chad O'Shea.
07:50I don't know if he's going to be, you know, somewhere else go somewhere else.
07:54Maybe if Brian Flores gets a head coaching gig, he goes with Flores.
07:59Uh, he is the, uh, wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator for the Cleveland Browns
08:02right now.
08:03And, uh, Cleveland's not doing well last time I checked.
08:06So Stefanski, I would say is on the hot seat.
08:11He could easily be popped if Stefanski is popped, Chad O'Shea is without a job.
08:16He worked in Cleveland, uh, for the last few years.
08:19So he obviously has worked with Van Pelt.
08:21He was with Van Pelt when Van Pelt was in Cleveland.
08:25Uh, obviously, you know, he, he has some experience in new England.
08:29He was the wide receivers coach here from oh nine to 2018.
08:32So I just wonder if O'Shea could possibly be a fit knowing the Cleveland offense working
08:38in the Cleveland passing game.
08:40A lot of those, you know, things that they do in Cleveland is what Van Pelt wants to
08:45do.
08:46It would seem like a pretty good marriage.
08:49We'll see if it comes together.
08:50All right.
08:51Uh, rookies, offensive rookies.
08:53Van Pelt said that all offensive rookies will be good players.
08:56He said, quote, they have to roll.
08:58Uh, they're not rookies anymore.
09:01When you look at this rookie class, Greg, I mean, you got obviously Jalen Polk, everybody's
09:05talking about, but Javon Baker, uh, he made a brief appearance as a kick returner last
09:10week before Mayo benched him.
09:12Uh, Jaheim Bell, there was a lot of talk about Jaheim Bell getting better at practice, uh,
09:17leading into the game last weekend.
09:20Of course he got an opportunity.
09:21He dropped the football, uh, probably cost the Patriots at least three points.
09:26So when you just look at this overall, these offensive rookies, is there anything that
09:31tells us we should expect differently from them over the final six or seven games here?
09:38Not really.
09:39I mean, but I will say, I mean, because look, uh, I mean, I think Polk's going to continue
09:45to get action the way, uh, Van Pelt talk today.
09:49Um, even though to me, he looked utterly lost in the last game and sort of needs a reset.
09:56Um, I don't think Wallace is ever going to play.
09:58I don't think he's going to, uh, unless there's an injury, uh, unless he supplants the Monterey
10:03Jacobs, which, you know, I don't really see happening, but who knows?
10:07Maybe he does.
10:08Leighton Robinson.
10:09I don't see him playing.
10:10I mean, with Cole Strange coming back at some point, um, you know, I don't really see him
10:16playing.
10:17Uh, they even talked about, um, taking a look at Cole Strange at, you know, not only left
10:22guard and center, but also right guard as he comes back.
10:25Javon Baker, um, you know, I think this is a red shirt year for him.
10:31Um, he's been getting on the field, but I don't really think, I mean, I guess there's
10:35a chance.
10:36I don't think Wallace dial has done a good job on special teams, but they don't need
10:39them in the secondary Joe Milton.
10:41We know we're not going to see him.
10:42And Jaheim Bell.
10:43I think he's going to continue to get reps.
10:45He could do better.
10:47But what I was going to say was I don't, especially about the offensive rookies, I don't disagree
10:52with Van Pelt.
10:53Um, I know everyone wants instant gratification and they expect X, Y, and Z out of rookies.
10:59And we've talked about it.
11:00I think it's, I think, um, every year people forget that like they're, they're brainwashed.
11:07They forget that like rookies, most of them take, take some time to develop into at least
11:12their second season.
11:13But every year they want to, they want to play fantasy football with the drafts or no,
11:17we're going to draft this guy.
11:18We're going to plug him in and he's going to be great and like, but it rarely ever happens
11:22that way.
11:23You know, we all know about Drake May, Drake May.
11:25I think Jalen Polk is certainly an NFL receiver.
11:29He's not showing it this year.
11:31They have to address the problem in the off season.
11:33I fully expect next year that we're going to talk about the May and Polk, uh, connection
11:39at some point.
11:40Um, Caden Wallace, my opinion, I mean, we don't have a whole lot of data on him with
11:45his injury issues as a rookie, but to me he's at least a backup swing tackle type and that's
11:54fine.
11:55You need, and that's a third round pick.
11:56That's okay.
11:57Laden Robinson to me looks like a starting guard.
12:00He's had his issues this year as a rookie, but I think he's a starter.
12:04Um, Javon Baker, you know, we'll see again, not my favorite draft pick.
12:09Um, Milton, I think will be an NFL quarterback at some point with development and Jaheim
12:15Bell.
12:16I think he's, I think he's got a chance to be like a, one of those move tight ends down
12:20the line, but he is a seventh round pick.
12:22So you know, you're expecting that to pay off down the line.
12:26So I don't disagree with Alex Van Pelt.
12:28That's why I'm not like just ripping Elliot Wolfe for the draft.
12:32I don't expect instant gratification.
12:34And I see traits that these guys can play in this league and that's what they need after.
12:38I mean, we just looked at the, what was it, the 2022 draft and how many guys are left
12:43here.
12:45I feel much better about the chances of this draft cat class being here and being contributors
12:50in year three than what we got out of 2022 22 was brutal.
12:56The Jalen Polk stuff is, it's just fascinating to me because I watched him in Washington.
13:02I was there at camp, uh, for at least six or seven of the, of the camp practices, uh,
13:08in the preseason, he made a couple of plays.
13:11The player that I saw at camp was a guy who had great hands, uh, made plays on the ball
13:16every once in a while down the field seemed to have some decent chemistry, especially
13:20with Drake.
13:22Uh, and then all of a sudden it's just like, he's, his focus is just completely off.
13:28Uh, you know, when you look at the issues with him, it's, it's drops, it's penalties.
13:33It's the, these things that, you know, it seems like his focus isn't there.
13:38And I didn't read a single word about Jalen Polk's focus being a problem at Washington.
13:44And when Jalen Polk was drafted, everybody agreed that where he was drafted was pretty
13:48much where he should have gone somewhere in the early to mid second round.
13:52It wasn't like, oh my God, what are they doing?
13:54It wasn't like a Nikhil Harry, like, oh, well, this guy's game might not translate in the
13:59NFL.
14:00It wasn't a Taekwon Thornton pick where it was like, that guy probably should have been
14:03drafted two rounds later.
14:05What the hell are they doing?
14:07And it just seems like a focus thing with him.
14:09I don't know what's going on, Greg, with Jalen Polk.
14:11I don't know if there's a personal thing going on.
14:14I don't know if, you know, he just lost his confidence early in the year and he can, I
14:20have no clue what's up, but I can tell you the guy that people are watching it.
14:24And this is what makes it difficult because I understand people cannot go to a lot of
14:31training camp practices, right?
14:33Like they just, they have their jobs, they have their kids, they have their lives.
14:37You might be able to squeeze in one or two.
14:40And so you go off of what people are talking about and writing about.
14:44And so it's really difficult.
14:45I understand it's really difficult for people to watch Jalen Polk, what he's done this regular
14:49season where he's, he's looked like a bust through 11 weeks.
14:53It's really difficult for those people to believe in what we're saying, but I'm telling
14:58you, I watch this guy at Washington.
15:00He was a completely different receiver and I understand it's not going to be the same
15:04thing in the NFL, but that hands and focus were not the issues with Jalen Polk.
15:09The questions were, could he consistently separate, right?
15:12Was, was one of the questions, was he athletic enough and all of that stuff.
15:17And if you watched him at camp, you didn't have any inclination that, that this kind
15:22of season would happen with him.
15:23I thought, Hey, he might get 40, 50 catches and 500 yards this year.
15:28And you know, here we are.
15:29I don't know what's going on.
15:30I don't know if you've heard anything, but to me, just, just something is up with him.
15:35And I don't know if it's just my confidence is shot because I got off to a bad start or
15:40if there's something at more, uh, something more at play here, Greg, or, or it might be
15:43a coaching issue, but I kind of lean towards the first two things.
15:47Yeah, there, I, I haven't heard anything.
15:50There certainly could be something going on with him personally that, that also that always
15:56could be the case.
15:58Um, you just never know.
15:59I mean, to me, um, I think it's a, it's a combination of him not fitting the scheme
16:07as well as he did in Washington and he's not getting good enough coaching.
16:11All right.
16:12Yeah.
16:13I want to clarify.
16:14I'm not saying it's anything personal.
16:16I'm not, I'm saying when a player loses focus, there's a reason for it.
16:20Sometimes it could be personal.
16:21Sometimes it's just coaching.
16:23Sometimes like Greg said, he might not be the greatest fit with what they're trying
16:26to do right now.
16:27It's also obvious.
16:28I would say one more thing about poke before we move on.
16:32He's playing a lot in the 12 personnel.
16:35If you look at his snaps, he's playing a lot with the two tight ends, which tells me
16:38that the coaches feel like he's one of their best blocking wide receivers.
16:42Cause when you go 12 personnel, you're going to run the football.
16:45So I also wonder like, you know, it might, it might be time, Greg.
16:52I said this on my personal podcast, the Nick cattle show.
16:55I'll get that plug in there Monday, Wednesday, Friday on YouTube.
16:59But I have been surprised that they haven't schemed a couple of easy ones for him just
17:04to try to get him going like on Sunday, I don't know about you, but on Sunday, uh, you
17:09know, if it's 12 personnel or it's 11 person, whatever they're doing, whatever he's, whenever
17:13he's out there, I don't know, man, get them the football once or twice early and try to
17:18get them to feel good.
17:19Even if it's like a bubble screen or a tunnel screen to try to get them going, I am surprised
17:24that they haven't.
17:25And I know people might be like, oh, that's force feeding or kind of, you know, you know,
17:29giving them a little pat on the head.
17:31I don't care.
17:32It's your second round pick.
17:33Like, I mean, I think they've done that the last couple of weeks.
17:36Well, certainly that the, uh, the, the, the touchdown that they gave them, that was basically
17:40like here, Jalen, here you go.
17:44Feel good.
17:47They did that.
17:48Yes.
17:49In that game.
17:50But I'd still like to see a couple of passes during a football game, uh, that, you know,
17:53between the twenties to try to, to try to get them going a little bit.
17:56I don't know.
17:57Um, just, just two more quick things, Greg, before we get to the game.
18:00So DeMarcus Covington, we know he's coming off of one of the worst games that he's had
18:05as a DC.
18:06Uh, he was named in that annual hiring cycle list for head coaches.
18:11Do you think Covington's year as DC has impacted in a negative way, his chance to get a head
18:17coaching job in the next year or so?
18:19Wow.
18:20I don't think it's helped.
18:21Um, you know, I, you know, I do, um, I've always been high on DeMarcus.
18:27Um, I thought he did excellent work at, at defensive line.
18:31Now, Albert Brewer did bring up, um, something interesting.
18:34I forget where he said it, um, but I hadn't really realized it.
18:40And I thought about it and I was like, ah, Bert's right.
18:42Um, it's not often that you see a guy jump from defensive line coach to being defensive
18:47coordinator and play call norm, uh, play caller.
18:51Normally those guys have a little bit more experience in the back end, or at least, you
18:56know, they go from defensive line to linebackers to secondary or, you know, something along
19:01those lines, um, which sort of makes you question like, does he, does he understand like, you
19:10know, some of the choices that he's making and how that, how that, uh, how that affects
19:15the secondary and the ability to cover and, you know, is he going to have a good grasp
19:19of marrying pressure and coverage?
19:22Any interesting questions to, to, to talk about.
19:25And by the way, related to that, I was watching dates, JT of Sullivan broke down Matthew
19:29Stafford against the Patriots on his, on his YouTube channel, not on his Patrion.
19:36So it's out there for anybody to go watch, but especially the Cooper cup cup touchdown.
19:40Sorry.
19:41I don't know why I'm dying about Matthew Stafford's performance.
19:46Yeah.
19:47He basically was like, he, I know he, he quote unquote said like, this is LOL defense.
19:53Like, he's like, you know, they had, they had three over two and how they did it.
19:58Like, you know, no one passed off copy.
20:00He was wide.
20:01I mean, it's not, you won't get an easier touchdown.
20:03He was just like, oh my God, this is epically bad defense and, and, uh, just guy, just go
20:08watch the rest of it.
20:09Cause that wasn't the only time he was sort of laughing at the Patriots.
20:12And he didn't even, he didn't even put the one like later in the game.
20:15I think it was the, the, the, the, their last drive where Cooper cup was in the slot
20:21and they brought talkie talkie and a blitz from left inside linebacker expected Jelani
20:27to buy to cover Cooper cup in the slot, right inside linebacker.
20:31I mean, he was wide open, he didn't even break that play down.
20:37But anyways, uh, you know, I think DeMarcus is a good coach and is going to be a good
20:44coach.
20:46A lot of those lists have to do with agents and relationships and stuff like that.
20:50Um, yeah, he's nowhere near ready to be a head coach in this league.
20:54He might get interviews, um, you know, probably affiliated with the Rooney rule and things
20:59like that.
21:00I mean, that's just sort of the way, uh, things go, but you know, I do think if he, if he
21:06does the right things and has longevity and proves as a defensive coordinator, which I
21:10I think he will, because I do, I do think he's really good.
21:13Um, in time he'll be a serious, uh, candidate for being a defensive coordinator, but right
21:21now, based on what we've seen this year, hell no.
21:26Well we know that coaches pay attention to texts because that's how van Pelt found out
21:29Marcus Jones wanted to play offense and could play offense.
21:32So maybe you should try to text, I don't know if you have Covington's number, but try to
21:36text him some adjustments, Greg, that you've seen on film, maybe, maybe he'll take it seriously.
21:41I mean, you know, if, if AVP didn't know about Marcus Jones, then, you know, who knows what
21:46the Marcus Covington hasn't been told?
21:49I will say I tweeted out at Nixie radio, uh, during the game on Sunday, I am sick and tired
21:54of the busted coverages inside the red zone.
21:57There's been four or five of those like guys not knowing who to pass, you know, who to
22:01pass who off to.
22:03I think Marcus Jones himself has had two busted coverages in the red.
22:07It's like you get in the red zone.
22:08It's supposed to help the passing defense.
22:10Things get condensed.
22:11You're supposed to like, you're, uh, too many busted coverages in the red zone.
22:16Too many Greg.
22:17Um, all right, you know what I was going to ask you about TC McCartney, but let's hold
22:21off.
22:22Uh, let's get to your prize picks this week.
22:24Prize picks is America's number one daily fantasy sports app with over 5 million active
22:28members.

22:38You can now win up to a hundred times your money on prize picks with as little as four
22:42correct picks.
22:43As of right now, they did not have any, uh, Patriots or Dolphins players up on there,
22:52but I will do something at some point and putting on Twitter.
22:55But I did want to tell you, uh, after Thursday night football.
23:00So we're taping this Thursday afternoon after tonight's game, uh, they're going to post
23:05a free square for Thanksgiving.
23:09So yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum.
23:11Love the free squares.
23:12That's how I was, you know, winning a decent amount of money early on in the season.
23:17Um, Tyreek Hill only needs to receive a half a receiving yard for the projection to hit.
23:25If you're correct on at least one more staff projection, you win real cash.
23:29So that's going to be for the Dolphins Packers Thanksgiving night game.
23:35So make sure you get over there.
23:36Like I said, Tyreek's going to catch a pass.
23:39All you have to do is get one more correct.
23:42You can do it.
23:43We can do it.
23:44And you can win cash.
23:45Download the prize picks app today and use code CLNS and get $50 instantly.
23:49When you play $5, that's code CLNS on prize picks to get $50 instantly.
23:54When you play $5, you don't even need to win to receive the $50 bonus.
23:58Guaranteed prize picks run your game, run your game.
24:02Indeed.
24:02All right.
24:02TC McCartney.
24:04Uh, he was listed in that, in that story that Tom Palacero does.
24:07I think it's Palacero and, and McCartney was listed as a NFL
24:11coaches to watch in future years.
24:13Maybe you haven't heard anything or much about TC McCartney, but I'm going to ask
24:17you, have you heard anything about TC and his, his reputation and maybe
24:20what's been going on this year?
24:22No.
24:24All right then.
24:26Yeah.
24:26I mean, um, nobody heard of TC McCartney, but this is the kind of stuff that you
24:30get with a rookie quarterback.
24:32If a rookie quarterback pops, especially early, people are going to look at the
24:36OC probably pass on Val Van Pelt.
24:39Uh, and then they're going to look at the quarterback's coach and be
24:42like, Ooh, who's this TC McCartney.
24:44He's also, um, you know, he is, he, uh, I forget how it works.
24:50He's the, he's the son, the son, grandson, grandson of the former
24:56Colorado head coach.
24:57Um, so it's in his blood.
25:00His dad was a quarterback at CU.
25:02Um, so certainly an interesting candidate.
25:05Uh, but again, um, early for a lot of these guys.
25:09I mean, they barely unpacked their bags here yet.
25:11Can we hold, hold the phone on them being head coaching candidates?
25:16All right.
25:16Um, not much.
25:18They are also three and eight.
25:22They are.
25:23It's a, it's true.
25:24It's true.
25:25All right.
25:25Let's get to, uh, let's get to this three and eight team
25:28against the dolphins this weekend.
25:29Let's start with the dolphins offense versus the Patriots defense.
25:33Greg, uh, your thoughts on, on Miami, what they try to do and
25:37what the Patriots have to do.
25:40Yeah, I'm, um, I'm worried about this one, Nick.
25:45Yeah.
25:45I mean, look, we saw the issues that the Patriots had last week with the Rams
25:50who, you know, similar scheme.
25:53We all know Mike McDaniel comes from, um, Sean McVay.
25:56Uh, I would say Mike McDaniel is Sean McVay's on steroids as far as how much
26:03scheme and motion, the pace that they play and also just the way it's teams built.
26:08I mean, if the Patriots had that much, that many issues with a, let's call
26:13it a more simplified version of what McDaniel does with less wouldn't like
26:18no speed out there now you're going up against the dolphins that's souped up
26:22with even more speed at like, I mean, I would, I would equate Kyron
26:26Williams with their running backs.
26:27I mean, even though a chain, uh, to me is, I mean, he's a lot bigger, all those guys.
26:32They're big, they're fast.
26:34They get them involved in the passing game.
26:36Uh, you got Tyreek Hill, you got waddle.
26:38Um, they're even getting something out of Johnny Smith.
26:41Um, even though I think that's a little bit overrated, I saw, you know, yeah,
26:46they ended up like this final score against the Raiders looked good, but it
26:50was a close game, the entire game.
26:51And it didn't really get busted open until Johnny Smith was left wide open.
26:56Oh man.
26:58That was one of the most delicious busted coverages I've ever seen.
27:01Nobody was within 30 yards of Johnny.
27:03He's literally just, he's just running down the field.
27:06I'm still surprised that he, he caught the pass.
27:09I mean, Mr.
27:10I, I gotta go back and look at it, see if his techniques change, but I'm sure it
27:13didn't, you know, cause I always equated him to like, he was like a, he was like
27:17one of those guys who catches fish at Pike's place market in Seattle.
27:21Like every time he caught a ball, he'd stop his feet.
27:24He'd be like, you know, it was like he was trying to catch a fish.
27:27Um, that's the way it looked just not a natural ball catcher.
27:31Um, you know, but you know, let's, uh, this look, this scheme is cooking now.
27:38They, over the last four games, they are first and offensive EPA.
27:42Uh, they are first and past DV, uh, EPA 15th and run.
27:48Um, you know, they don't turn, they've turned the ball over three
27:52times over those four games.
27:55Um, interesting though.
27:57I was interested in this, you know, big plays, you're quite the dolphins
28:01with big plays, even though I do think a lot of teams just play them back.
28:04A lot of team, they see a lot of zone, a lot of cover too.
28:07And, you know, to a basically throws, like I would say he's, he's an expert
28:12at throwing over the middle, about 10 yards or less, like seven to 10 yards.
28:17That's sort of his bread basket and also checking it down to the flats.
28:21He does that all the time.
28:22Um, so, you know, Miami has 53 big plays over the last four games.
28:28New England has 51, uh, Miami, Miami has nine, 20, 20 plus past
28:34place seven, um, for new England.
28:38Um, the dolphins, I think it's because of how fast they play and how to, uh,
28:43how fast it gets rid of the ball.
28:45But they, over the last four games, they are second in the least amount of
28:49offense, offensive pressure allowed 21.2%.
28:53I don't love their off their, their offensive line, but it's
28:57effective with this group.
28:59Um, he schemes around it.
29:01Um, which is possible people like we were talking about early on in the season
29:06with the Patriots, um, line struggles.
29:08The big key to me is, and I don't have a whole lot of confidence that the
29:14Patriots can do this, especially after what we saw against the Rams, you
29:18have to get two off his first read.
29:20Yeah.
29:21That's what he wants to do.
29:22You have to find a way to do it.
29:24It goes through, I mean, these guys are in the division.
29:27You should know them.
29:28You should have studied them in the off season.
29:30You should have a really good plan, certainly better than the Rams who
29:33you only see once every four years.
29:35So I could somewhat understand that.
29:37Uh, but you got to take his first read away and that's when
29:40you can get pressure on him.
29:41That's when he starts turning the ball over and taking sacks.
29:44So that's a big key in this game.
29:47I'm not sure if anybody will understand my analogy or my comparison, but I'm
29:52going to do it anyway, because that's how I roll folks, uh, I will explain it.
29:55So hang with me here for a second.
29:58So to, uh, he he's been able to extend plays from time to time, right?
30:04He was able to extend plays a couple of weeks ago against the Rams
30:07defense and it worked out for him.
30:10He did it once or twice against Vegas in that game, but he's like
30:15a Julius Randall of the NBA.
30:17We're like, you have some guys where like they'll take threes and they'll
30:22make their first couple threes, but you're not worried about it.
30:25Like you want them to keep taking threes because inevitably water will find its
30:29level and they'll end up bricking the next five threes, which opens the door for you.
30:35I feel the same way about Tua when it comes to extending plays
30:38and holding onto the football.
30:40He might be able to make a play or two extending, but the more he does that
30:45or tries to do that, the better it is for your defense, because when Tua holds
30:50onto the ball and he's kind of running around, he's, you just feel a mistake
30:56coming that's when errors hit.
30:58So I agree with you, Greg, you don't want to, uh, to be able to get rid of
31:04the football as quickly as he does.
31:05I mean, Miami is the fastest team in the NFL when it comes to time to throw 2.52
31:10seconds.
31:11I mean, as soon as it hits his hands, he wants it out.
31:14The more that you keep him in the pocket, the more that you, you have him guessing
31:19and looking at his second read, even his third read, the much better you're going
31:23to be, uh, a chance, a problem, a chance, a problem on the ground, a chance, a
31:27problem in the passing game.
31:29Greg mentioned motion.
31:30And it's not just motion with the wide receivers.
31:33McDaniel will motion everybody.
31:34I mean, the running backs will motion.
31:37Jonu Smith will motion.
31:39Jonu will motion at the snap.
31:41He had a touchdown last weekend because he motioned at the snap and got open.
31:44You're going to see a lot of that late motion.
31:47And as we saw last weekend, Patriots defense stunk against motion with the Rams.
31:52So they've got to be able to, uh, turn this thing over rather
31:56quickly and get it going.
31:58All right.
31:58Before we get to the, uh, Patriots offense versus dolphins defense, Greg,
32:01tell the fine people about game time.
32:05Game time picks filters out the fluff to show you only incredible deals and great

32:30matchup and a lot of fun to watch.
32:33Download the game time app, create an account, use code CLNS to take $20 off
32:37your first purchase terms apply again, create an account and routine code CLNS

32:42Download game time today.
32:44What time is it?
32:44Game time.
32:46Pat's offense, dolphins defense, Drake may coming off, uh, his, his great game
32:52against LA has his best game in the NFL.
32:56Uh, how does Drake main company stack up against this Miami D
33:01not bad if they can get protection and if they can run a little bit, um, that's
33:08going to be a little bit of an issue.
33:10The dolphins defense over the last four games, 21st in total defeat, defensive
33:16EPA, 26 against the pass 12th against the run.
33:23Um, I think that, uh, they don't get a whole lot of pressure.
33:27Miami, uh, their dolphins D is 30 and pressure rate over the last four games.
33:32The Patriots are 18th.
33:33Of course, probably almost all of that was against the bears.
33:36So that skews that a little bit.
33:38Um, I think there'll be opportunities for them.
33:41I mean, I do like a lot of the players on the dolphins.
33:45Um, I, you know, Javon Holland at safety is, is really good.
33:50Uh, Poyer, you know, he's a vet, he's older.
33:53He's a little slower.
33:54I don't like them at the line.
33:56Vegas went at Poyer last week a couple of times.
33:58They, they moved, they moved Bowers and I'm sure we'll get
34:02into this with the tight ends.
34:03But they moved Bowers a couple of times to, to, you know, to pull Poyer over to
34:08him and, and Bowers just ate his lunch.
34:11Uh, and look, Brock Bowers was also one of the best players in the draft last year.
34:15It's not like, uh, you know, arrow Brown with all due respect is chewing up Poyer.
34:19But I do think, you know, Poyer's lost a step over the last year or two.
34:23Yeah.
34:24And I do think that they're like a little bit aggressive and you do see that with a
34:27guy like Poyer at his age, like, you know, we all, we all slow down a little bit and
34:31we gotta, you know, we gotta jump the gun, uh, a little bit.
34:34And I thought there were some opportunities over the head of the
34:37safeties that the, that Vegas couldn't really get to at times.
34:41Um, but you know, I think, uh, I'm, I'm worried about, so I think they'll have
34:46the ability to make plays down the field and, uh, you know, Jalen Ramsey is still,
34:50you know, really good.
34:51I like who, who, uh, uh, the slot safety, uh, slot cornerback.
34:57I know, uh, we might get storm duck again at cornerback, uh, all name team, but you
35:05know, this, this, what's, what's better.
35:08What's the better part of that name?
35:09The storm or the duck.
35:13I think duck, I was going to go with storm, which means that it really is one of the
35:18greatest names of all time anyway.
35:19Yeah.
35:19It's, it's, it's awesome.
35:21Um, but their, their defensive line of, you know, Ogba, you know, he's all right,
35:28but Siler inside Calais, Campbell, man, that guy just never stops.
35:33He's still one of the best players in the league.
35:35That's a guy, the Patriots should have signed him in the off season.
35:38I don't even know how much he signed for it.
35:39It couldn't have been that much.
35:41And he might not have come to, uh, new England, but like, that's a guy, that's
35:45the type of guy that they need going forward to sort of solidify the defensive
35:49line and the interior defensive line.
35:51Um, and chop Robinson, the rookie has done a really good job.
35:57They don't get a whole lot of pressure, but he's, um, one of the
36:00guys over the last four games.
36:03He's averaging four and a half pressures a game.
36:06Zach Siler, who's criminally underrated.
36:09A great player is averaging three per game.
36:12Clay is Campbell is at one and a half.
36:14Um, so, you know, chop Robinson is a guy who's coming into his own.
36:20They're going to have to account for him on third down.
36:23He, he lines up on both sides of the line against the tackle.
36:27So, you know, it's hard to get a beat on what he's going to do, but, um, you
36:32know, Jordan Brooks, also the linebacker brings a lot of, uh, pressure on blitzes.
36:36So, um, there's to me, the battle for the Patriots offense, whether they're
36:42going to be able to do anything and Drake may can sort of get in a shootout
36:46with the dolphins is going to, it's going to depend on, you know, can they
36:50block things up or are they going to have issues with that?
36:55Clay is Campbell is third in the entire NFL and defensive
36:59tackle pass rush win rate.
37:00He's like 45 years old.
37:02Uh, sealer is 14th in defensive tackle pass rush win rate.
37:07So you got two guys on the inside that have shown that they can get to the
37:11quarterback consistently, the interior of the Patriots offensive line, best
37:16have a good day on Sunday, uh, chop Robinson.
37:18When you look at that statistic, Greg, that analytic is 10th in edge pass
37:23rush win rate, which is one spot below Jared verse, the guy we talked about
37:26last week for the Rams, we sung his praises.
37:29Chop was a beast against Vegas.
37:31I mean, he, he, he was winning his rush.
37:36It felt like every other snap of the football when it, when it came to
37:39So, uh, chop is, is picking up the NFL.
37:43Now, one of the questions that I have though, I'm wanting to ask you if, if
37:49you are, was it Anthony Weaver?
37:50Is that the DC name?
37:52Yeah.
37:52Um, if you're Anthony, so when you look back, Greg, at week five, what's
37:57interesting is Miami doesn't blitz a lot.
37:59They're 19th and blitz rate.
38:01They blitz about a quarter of the time.
38:04Last week, they were 22nd in the league in blitz rate.
38:08They were under 17% against Minshew and Vegas.
38:12But when you look back at when the dolphins played the Patriots week five,
38:17they had the 10th highest blitz rate in the league that week at over 32%.
38:23So my question to you is, this is a team that doesn't like to blitz.
38:27They didn't blitz hardly at all last week against Minshew, but now
38:31you've got may instead of Brissette.
38:32If you're a Weaver, what's your plan?
38:35Are you bringing the heat to Drake may?
38:37Are you blitzing him or are you doing what you do, which is not blitz a ton.
38:41You know, hope that your defensive line gets home and
38:44play a lot of zone coverage.
38:48Um, I, well, I mean, look, I think you can, you could blitz Jacobi more
38:53because you knew where he was going to be and he wasn't really going to beat
38:56you with his legs, even though he's going to try and, and fail, especially
38:59after week one, um, you know, I think they, they better have a really
39:04good plan against May's legs.
39:05Um, you know, you would think that they might play a little bit
39:09more man coverage, um, in this game.
39:12But if you do that, you have to have a spy, um, on may.
39:15I mean, if I were the dolphins, what I would do is, cause I'm not afraid of
39:19the Patriots in any way, shape or form in terms of, um, them, you
39:23know, winning down the field.
39:25Uh, I'm manning everybody up and I'm putting a spy on may all the time.
39:28And one thing I wanted to mention about Robinson, as you were talking
39:31about, it reminded me, um, that dude has closing speed, like that.
39:37That's rare.
39:38Like, I mean, as soon as he gets on the edge, like when he's closing, like
39:41he all of a sudden goes, you know, five feet and like in a fraction of a second,
39:46he's all of a sudden like, so that, uh, that'll be interesting to watch to see.
39:52How may deals with that?
39:54Cause that's kind of one of those things as a young quarterback that you're just
39:58you, you don't realize how good these guys are.
40:01And sometimes you're falling back on what you did at UNC and in college.
40:05Like, you know, if you try to, if you try to evade chop Robinson,
40:10uh, that could be a big loss.
40:13All right.
40:14We'll get to our picks in a minute, but first I'll tell you about
40:16BSJ 50 bucks for the year, but Dargie already do a great job with the
40:20Patriots, of course, and everybody else that works for Greg, they do a tremendous
40:24work.
40:25You also want to download the prize picks app right now, as you listen to this or
40:28watch us use the code CLNS, you get 50 bucks instantly when you play $5.
40:34And if you want to go to a game anytime soon, check out game time, you can
40:37download that game time app, create an account, use that same code CLNS, and
40:42they will take 20 bucks off of your first purchase.
40:44All right.
40:44This week's pick.
40:45I am five and six against the spread.
40:47Greg is three, six, and two against the spread.
40:50I am five and six straight up.
40:53Uh, Greg is six and five straight up.
40:55So here's what this week's matchup looks like.
40:58The dolphins are favored by seven and a half down in Miami.
41:01So they're minus seven and a half.
41:03And Greg, the over under number is 46.
41:07Give us your pick big guy.
41:08So, you know, in a vacuum, I would probably, I would probably take the
41:14dolphins, um, and the points, especially because it's Miami and it's new England
41:19just for some reason cannot play there.
41:21And by the way, that, that place, it must be a South Florida thing, but that
41:26place in Tampa are two of the stadiums where I don't know, weird shit just
41:31happens, like it just, it just does.
41:34Like, it's just, I don't know what's the way it's situated or like, you
41:37know, to, in relation to the sun or whatever, but every time I go down
41:41there, like, uh, I feel like off kilter, um, at the game and plus they have the
41:47worst press box, um, in the league location and I will actually be at
41:52Sunday's game, so not looking forward to that, but it is what it is.
41:55Um, I do think that there could be a possible look ahead factor.
42:01Um, for the dolphins in this, you know, they have, they have at
42:05green Bay on Thanksgiving night.
42:07So they have a, um, short week coming up.
42:11Um, and this is one of those teams that sort of, uh, feels themselves if they
42:16have a little bit of success, but, and I do think that Drake may is going to
42:22have a pretty good game against the dolphins.
42:24I think he'll do all right.
42:26But at the end of the day, if, if the Patriots couldn't do better
42:29against the Rams last week, um, I'm, I'm not picking them, um, this week.
42:35I think they're going to have even more trouble with this speed.
42:38And I think that the Patriots at this point in time are just, you know,
42:42they're secondaries pretty fast, but overall they're a pretty slow defense.
42:47They're a pretty slow team.
42:49And I think Miami is going to make them look really, really slow in this game.
42:54So I'm going to go, uh, dolphins, 30 Patriots, 20.
43:04All right.
43:05Uh, I am going to go Miami 27, new England 23.
43:09Uh, I think Miami will score 27 to 30.
43:12I agree with you, Greg.
43:14I do think they're going to be opportunities for Drake may on Sunday.
43:18Uh, if you watch the Vegas game and I know you did, I did you watch that
43:22Vegas game and there were some things with that Vegas offense, the Patriots
43:27do, uh, and, and had some success against that Miami defense, the
43:31tight ends I brought up Brock Bowers.
43:34You know, I could see the Patriots moving Austin Hooper around Hunter Henry
43:37around a little bit and trying to get those guys matched up with some of their
43:41linebackers and employer who I mentioned earlier, I think the tight ends could
43:45have some success against this defense.
43:47Um, and here's what I would say.
43:51Alex van Pelt needs to run the football because when you go back to their week
43:55five matchup, Patriots averaged almost eight yards a carry, uh, but van Pelt
44:01only called 18 runs for Stevenson and Gibson.
44:05And I remember after that game, I lost my mind and I was screaming and
44:11ranting and raving, trying to figure out why you only called 18 runs when you
44:15were averaging almost eight yards, a carry run the football early and often
44:20keep it away from Miami forced to, uh, to take his time in the pocket.
44:24And I think you have a chance to keep this close and keep
44:26it within the seven and a half.
44:27So I'll go, uh, Miami 27, new England 20.
44:32I take the seven and a half and, uh, I would, I would go over
44:35that 46 and a half as well.
44:37All right, that'll do it.
44:38We'll see what happens on a Sunday.
44:40And by the way, did you notice, did you notice one thing?
44:42Everybody out there that's, uh, Greg Bedard doesn't go on a lot of road
44:46trips, but he just so happened to be able to squeeze a road trip
44:50to Miami in late November.
44:52This guy, he's got it figured out.
44:54He wouldn't send me to, you know, London.
44:56I couldn't go to any of these fancy, but my man was ready when he saw
45:01that, when he saw that, you know, schedule, he's got friends down in Miami.
45:05Don't don't forget.
45:06But darts of my was, was a Miami fan.
45:09He's, he's got, he's got friends down there.
45:10He saw, Oh, a trip down to Miami late November, right before Thanksgiving.
45:15Looks like a fantastic time to maybe, uh, go on that trip.
45:19My Miami dolphins, number one, they're on the ground.
45:24They're all.
45:24Um, so no, but I will say the only reason I'm going on this
45:29trip is number one, it was cheap.
45:31Number two, it's one that I love these trips where, so I'm flying
45:35down very late on Saturday night.
45:38Get up, go to the game.
45:40I'm on a flight back after the game, nine 30 takeoff.
45:44So it's only one night.
45:46Uh, and like, I really, I really liked that.
45:50I hate the getting up at like 5 00 AM on Monday mornings after Sunday game.
45:55That's just brutal, but this, these trips have turned in really good, really easy.
45:59I'll be there less than 24 hours, baby.
46:02I'm going to do the, uh, Will Ferrell anchorman.
46:04Jeff, I don't believe you.
46:05So there you have it.
46:06Everybody enjoy the weekend of football.
46:08Be well, uh, we'll talk to you early next week to react to this game.
46:29yeah.
