00:00All right, it is a little late for this, but I'm going to tell you anyway, happy Halloween.
00:17I am recording here late Thursday night, which really means you're probably going to listen
00:21to this Friday, Saturday, maybe Sunday morning, at which point you will have realized the
00:25best part of Halloween, as I did sometime around 14 or 15, is actually the day after
00:31when you wake up with more candy than you were going to have for the next 365 days until
00:36you come back to this very moment a year from now.
00:38So congrats to you, congrats to me, because I have more candy for you, and here's how
00:44it goes.
00:45On this episode alone, a stacked sugary episode, we have fake trades, we have mid-season awards
00:53with two-time Super Bowl champion, former Patriots tight end Christian Fourier.
00:56We have a four-minute drill with another Christian, Christian Gonzalez, who, I'll be frank with
01:01you at the top, not our best four-minute drill, not because I didn't come prepared.
01:05I actually outsourced some questions to teammates in the locker room today before we went outside
01:09and did the video separate, because all the videos now during media access are outside
01:13of the locker room, stuff you didn't ask for, and Christian being quiet and typically a
01:16little short.
01:17It's just his personality.
01:18I wanted to be maximum prepared.
01:20We started great.
01:21The middle's eh.
01:22The ending was pretty good.
01:23So that is at the end, and before we get to all of that, I think what you will find is
01:27the sweetest part of all.
01:29It's a positive Drake May update, because while I recorded with Christian Fourier yesterday,
01:34Christian Gonzalez later today, I waited to do this intro Thursday night after the Patriots
01:39released their latest practice report, and on that practice report it said, for the second
01:43straight day, Drake May is limited with a concussion he sustained last weekend against
01:46the Jets.
01:47And that part is not the good news.
01:50The good news is at practice today, he participated in opening stretching and initial drills,
01:56which is an upgrade from Wednesday when he was also limited.
02:00But Wednesday, as I asked Gerard Mayo before practice, last question he got, is Drake limited
02:05to 30 minutes?
02:06Well, he practiced longer than 30 minutes, and Gerard said, no, he will not practice
02:10longer than 30 minutes.
02:11And the reason I asked that is because players in the concussion protocol have five phases,
02:16and phase number three says players can be involved in football-specific activities,
02:22but they cannot practice longer than 30 minutes.
02:23So once Gerard said no, that meant Drake, even though he was going to be limited later
02:28that day in practice, was in phase three, because the time limit said that's exactly
02:33where he was.
02:34So the team on Wednesday did not include him in initial stretching, didn't include him
02:39in initial drills.
02:40They waited to start his 30-minute window until after the media had left, and practice
02:44really begins.
02:45And we can't say what plays they're running and who's running where and what package and
02:48all this different stuff.
02:50So when Drake was a participant today for that opening part, and they started his window
02:55earlier, that to me said there is no window, baby.
02:57He should be, is very likely in phase four, which means there's one left to go.
03:03And five is just basically clearance from a team position, and then an independent neurological
03:08consultant who has to verify that all of his signals and his signs and his neurological
03:12responses are back to a baseline, meaning when all the players do this neurological
03:16testing before the season, when they're not concussed, you get back to that same baseline
03:21performance.
03:22So I want to be clear.
03:24I have no idea whether Drake May will play Sunday in Tennessee.
03:27I don't know how he feels right now.
03:29I don't know how he's going to feel tomorrow.
03:31But theoretically, it is possible that Drake May could be cleared as soon as Friday when
03:36the Patriots will have one more practice, they'll release a practice report, and they
03:40can wait to announce.
03:41They cannot announce.
03:42They get announced right away.
03:43I don't know.
03:44Gerard May will speak tomorrow morning.
03:45I will not be in there.
03:46I have one of my best friend's wedding, I'm actually officiating on Saturday, so I'm going
03:49to go up to Vermont on Friday.
03:51But you will hear from the reporters down there, follow our guy, Doug Kide, and we will
03:54hear about Drake May.
03:55But as it stands right now, things are trending positively, and if I had to guess, I think
04:00he will play Sunday at Tennessee.
04:02So big, big update there.
04:03Okay.
04:04Before we get to the midseason awards, which Christian was great, so was Gonzalez, I wanted
04:10to hit on the fake trades, which I cooked up and published today at the Boston Herald.
04:14And before we get to that, I was thinking, you know, regardless of whatever happens over
04:19the next, I don't know, however many hours until we get to Tuesday at 4pm, because yes,
04:24the NFL's trade deadline is on Election Day, no deal that the Patriots are going to make
04:29is going to be bigger than the one they made in Naugat, shipping Matt Judd onto Atlanta.
04:32So I said, okay, how's Matt Judd on doing?
04:34I've not checked.
04:35I don't, I think I've watched one Falcon in the game and that was it.
04:37Maybe week two against the Eagles.
04:39And when I looked up his stats yesterday to write this column that came, will come out
04:44tomorrow on Friday, I was stunned.
04:47Matt Judd on right now, when you look at his sacks, his tackles for loss, and his quarterback
04:53hits outside of those sacks.
04:55So just when you hit the quarterback, you haven't sacked them, but they overlap in the
04:58modern box court.
04:59He is tracking after eight starts.
05:01And when you prorate this over a full 17 game season to have less production by sacks, tackles
05:08for loss and quarterback hits than he had last year, when he played just three and a
05:13half games for the Patriots, he has one and a half sacks, two tackles for loss and one
05:19quarterback hit.
05:20That's it.
05:21Which means ladies and gentlemen, the Patriots absolutely crushed the Matt Judd on trade.
05:27I've seen enough to steal from our election day theme next week.
05:30That's it.
05:31A third round pick for what will be prorated as basically three sacks, four tackles for
05:36loss and two quarterback hits is insane.
05:39And his underlying metrics aren't good either.
05:42This isn't like, oh, he's getting close.
05:43He's not just getting there among addressers with at least 150 pass rushing staffs.
05:47Matt Judd on has one on his pass rushes 7.3% of the time, according to pro football focus.
05:53He's averaging fairly a pressure and a half per game and his pro football focus grade
05:58for run defense, which we can all debate metal with and give tiny, tiny bit of salt is tracking
06:03for a career low.
06:05Not to mention the three penalties.
06:06This is not to bag on Matt Judd on at all.
06:09It's to say when you assess how the Patriots did trading, don't just look at what I think
06:14will probably be KJ Osborne for conditionally round pick or Josh Utsay for 2026 six rounder.
06:20The biggest move they had to make, they've already made and they got an aim.
06:24This is like looking at their past draft and you can be disappointed in Jalen Polk.
06:27I am.
06:28I'm bummed that Jayvon Baker has six offensive snaps in eight games and Kane Wallace got
06:32hurt and Lane Robinson struggling.
06:34But none of that matters remotely close.
06:37Even if you stack up all of those picks and all those players and all that lack of production,
06:41if the Patriots hit on Drake may that draft gets an a cause that third overall pick matters
06:46that much.
06:47The quarterback position matters that much.
06:49And with respect to all the other players in the roster, Matt Judd on, even if he stinks
06:53right now, the value he had to net a third round pick is going to be more than if you
06:58stacked up, they traded Jonathan Jones and Kendrick Bourne and KJ Osborne.
07:02This is me giving away my fake trades, but there is one where the Patriots at and the
07:05Patriots crushed that they won the Matthew Judd on trade at tip to them.
07:09Okay, let's get the fake trades, but first price picks guys, if you haven't been listening,
07:14you have just been absolutely missing out and you will get a biggest disappointment
07:17on our midseason awards later because price picks has over 10 million members and billions
07:21of dollars.
07:22That's billions with a B and awarded winnings, making it America's number one daily fantasy
07:26sports game.
07:27And it's the simplest out there.
07:28You pick more or your pick less on a bunch of player staff projections.
07:32Every single week, you could go to your guys on your fantasy team or people on the Patriots
07:36or players that Patriots are going to face.
07:38You look at the stat that they've been given and you go, that'll be more or less than you
07:41build a lineup and that's it.
07:43And right now, price picks is offering access via Venmo, which means it's safe, secure and
07:47easy.
07:48That's how I have it connected to my price picks.
07:49You can run your game all season long on price picks, which still, if you join now and you
07:55haven't done this yet, you absolutely should enter code CLNS for a $50 bonus five zero.
08:00When you play your first five, just $5 line of again, that's a $50 bonus for just your
08:05first $5 lineup.
08:06You can pick your fantasy players again, Patriots, whatever you want, all less than 60 seconds.
08:10Download the app today.
08:11As I did use code CLNS to get $50 instantly with your first $5 lineup again, download
08:16the app today.
08:17Use code CLNS and get $50 instantly after you play your first $5 lineup, price picks
08:22run your game.
08:23Okay.
08:24Here are my price picks of the week.
08:26Very quickly.
08:27Saquon Barkley, more than 0.5 rushing slash receiving touchdowns.
08:31Meaning if Saquon scores a touchdown against the Jags again against the Jags, uh, you hit
08:37more than so more than touchdowns, 0.5 touchdowns for Saquon Barkley, Patrick Holmes, Monday
08:42night football.
08:44They're facing a high pressure, blitzing Bucs defense.
08:47You know what?
08:48That's going to give him running lanes more than 20 and a half rushing yards for Patrick
08:52Holmes and Monday night football.
08:53Watch with the Manning cast.
08:54Belichick's actually very good.
08:55All right.
08:56Patriots fake trades.
08:57These first three, very similar Patriot shipping out a veteran getting a late round pick.
09:03Number one, Kendrick Bourne and a 2025 seventh round pick to the 49ers for a 2026 fifth round
09:10pick.
09:11So essentially the Patriots net, the value of a sixth rounder in this deal is something
09:15the Panthers failed to do when they dealt Deontay Johnson earlier this week to Baltimore,
09:20giving a seventh and getting a six in return.
09:23The Patriots here are giving up a seventh and getting a fifth in return.
09:26So you go, okay, well, how would Kendrick Bourne that's more than Deontay Johnson did
09:31The years are key here because it's a very common argument.
09:33Belichick did this earlier when he was criticizing the Josh Hutey deal, that if a draft pick
09:38dealt or acquired is, we'll call it two years, two drafts out from now, that pick is worth
09:44around less than the one that's closer.
09:47Okay.
09:48So a 2025 third round pick is really the same as a 2026 second round pick.
09:54Okay.
09:55Later it is the lower the value.
09:57And so here they argue to the Niners, Hey, you need to receive her now.
10:01You still get to keep the same number of picks in this draft.
10:04Okay.
10:05Actually you add one.
10:06We just want a better asset down the road and the Patriots rebuilding have all the time
10:09in the world.
10:10So they say, yeah, we'll wait an extra year for the best asset in this deal.
10:13And they give up Kendrick Bourne.
10:14Would I do this deal?
10:16No, because the Patriots need leadership right now.
10:18They need it in the locker room.
10:19They need it on offense.
10:20They need it on defense and meetings on the road.
10:23And Kendrick was really the first to spill the beans on this amid some other comments
10:26and other places, but it's a young immature receiver room.
10:28I'm just saying, if you need to outline a deal to find an ideal trade partner, someone
10:32willing and interested in taking in Kendrick Bourne with the Niners were back in the summer,
10:37this is how you do it.
10:38And you get a higher draft by saying, okay, kick it back here.
10:41Okay.
10:42What do you care about a fifth round pick in 2026, but you could have 18 months to recoup.
10:47Give that to us.
10:48We'll send you born and the seventh rounder this year, the Patriots have three and let's
10:51call it a deal.
10:53Trade number two.
10:54A simpler version of the same deal, KJ Osborne and a 2025 seventh round pick for the chargers
10:592026, six round pick.
11:02So here's the deal.
11:04Osborne's underlying numbers are terrible.
11:06I get that.
11:07He had 615 receiving yards on average over his last three years in Minnesota.
11:12This is not Minnesota.
11:13He's not in Kansas anymore.
11:15Okay.
11:16This is a receiver who's not playing for a bad team with maybe the worst receiving core
11:20in the league.
11:21So the chargers still need a receiver.
11:23And you could put it even a condition on this pick to say, Hey, if he averages four catches
11:27per game, which would be second on the chargers right now, you know, bump that up around.
11:32But the Patriots here are after their original six round pick from the JC Jackson trade.
11:36I think I said 2026 six rounder.
11:38What I want is this year's sixth round pick.
11:41So the Patriots last year give up a 2025 six rounder for JC Jackson and a seventh round
11:48pick.
11:49And I want to get this back because we know the Patriots picks are going to be at the
11:51top of every round and therefore more valuable than anyone else further down below them.
11:56So this is what they get.
11:57It's a pick swap.
11:58Osborne goes for something similar to Deontay Johnson.
12:00The reason being the chargers desperation.
12:03And maybe they say, Hey, you can have the best of our three seventh round picks.
12:06Trade number three, Jonathan Jones to the Vikings.
12:08This one simpler straight up for a six round pick.
12:11Jonathan Jones is 31.
12:13He's in a contract year.
12:14He is still playing starting caliber football.
12:17But here it's more about fit.
12:19Brian Flores knows he needs a little bit of help in that secondary teams are not figuring
12:23out Minnesota, but you need depth and that kind of defense and over the wear and tear
12:28of 17 game season.
12:29The Patriots have taken good care of Jonathan Jones who played just 30 snaps last weekend
12:33against the Jets and before has been limited and rotating in with Marco Wilson and Marcus
12:37Jones.
12:38So here they say, Hey, we have a refreshed Jonathan Jones that you can play at outside
12:41corner nickel and safety if you want.
12:44And he knows that system.
12:45Brian Flores was here for almost two decades before he went to Miami and then to Pittsburgh
12:49and more recently in Minnesota.
12:51So the trick here again is this is a 2026 six rounder.
12:55I know none of you were thrilled about that.
12:56I get that.
12:57You don't need to yell in all caps in the comments or email me about this.
13:01But the reason this one is a 2026 six rounder is not again because he's 31 and in a contract
13:06year, the Vikings don't have any picks in 2025.
13:10It's a first rounder in two fifths and that's it.
13:12And they're not giving up a fifth for Jonathan Jones.
13:15So let's get this one straight and then we'll get to everything else.
13:17This is where the Patriots get a player.
13:19And he's someone that if you were listening pre-draft, not this spring, but two years
13:23ago, they're 18 months, whatever.
13:26Emanuel Forbes is a name I brought up a lot and Emanuel Forbes, when his name is brought
13:30up now, it's because he's bad at football.
13:33And despite a regime change, we're out goes around Rivera incomes, Dan Quid, Adam Peters
13:38and new GM Forbes is still buried on the depth chart in Washington.
13:42This is a six foot one corner with four, three, five speed who tied or set the record
13:46for pick sixes in the sec a couple of seasons ago, immensely talented.
13:51The issues are twofold.
13:52One, he's very, very skinny, like putting, pushing 170 pounds, very lanky do number two
13:57extinct to tackle.
13:58Okay.
13:59But if I'm the Patriots and go, okay, we can do the same version of the trades I just proposed.
14:04We give up a fifth rounder.
14:06You give us Forbes who has most of that, all the money left in his rookie first year, first
14:11round contract guaranteed.
14:13You give us Forbes and a sixth round pick.
14:15So it's a pick swap trade.
14:16We've moved back and get the player.
14:18We'll take it.
14:19And the reason I think the Patriots might be interested in this more than other teams
14:22who, again, Forbes might be caught, might not be.
14:25He's buried in the depth chart, barely played a hundred defensive snaps this year.
14:28He's actually healthy scratch one, but a, the talent is there be his best game as an
14:33NFL player.
14:34What's in new England a year ago when the commanders came in and won 20 to 17, he had
14:39three pass breakups because the Patriots were trying to pick in him and just couldn't.
14:43He only gave up two catches on seven targets and in-person performances tend to leave an
14:47impression on front offices.
14:48Not unique to the Patriots.
14:50This happens all over the place.
14:51But if you want to think about it, Wes Welker was one of those.
14:54He's a pain in our ass.
14:55We can't defend him.
14:56Let's get him.
14:57Okay.
14:58Plenty of examples in the Belichick era.
14:59This is another one.
15:00They say, we saw it.
15:01We trust our coaching.
15:02We've done good job with young corners, but they're just a little small.
15:06Okay.
15:08We don't need right now and can maybe ideally put opposite Christian Gonzalez who ironically
15:13went after Forbes in that same draft and a roll of the dice picks up who cares kind of
15:18trade.
15:19So there you have it for fake trades upcoming now, mid season awards with Christian Fourier
15:23after that Christian Gonzalez.
15:25And then we'll get out of here.
15:26I would highly encourage you to listen to Christian for his podcast coach to win, which
15:29we had a little technical glitch and he made his own pitch.
15:32So we hit on it and then got away from it because that part of the episode was lost.
15:37Afterwards, he gets all the football stuff.
15:38It's great to hear him back in the airwaves and get his podcast is coached the number
15:41to win with a lot of great guests coming up, Christian and Christian.
15:45Okay.
15:46It's not often we have two times Superbowl champions on the pod, but when we do, we like
15:49him handsome and dancing, which we have Christian Fortier for the folks on YouTube, given a little
15:53extra for free.
15:55Oh, that little, that little intro was pretty nice, man.
15:58Like, I mean, I was just, you know, when you do, whenever you're on hold and you call somebody,
16:03they put you on hold.
16:04And sometimes you get some really good music that they provide you while you're on hold.
16:08And sometimes you're dancing.
16:09Sometimes you're not.
16:10That kind of made me dance.
16:11Good job by you.
16:13Is the music good though, when you're on hold, I feel like you either get sent back a couple
16:17centuries and it's classical, or you have this, some kids screwed around in garage band
16:21and the CEO was like, yeah, that'll be our call waiting.
16:24You're screaming representative.
16:27There's I think it's AT&T.
16:28I can't remember what it is.
16:29It's one of these places I call a lot and I'm always on hold.
16:32And I remember one time I was trying to record it cause I was going to, I wanted it as a
16:35ringtone.
16:36It was so catchy.
16:37I just couldn't get it out of my head.
16:39Oh, good.
16:40Are you on hold a lot?
16:41You said they're one of these places you're calling a lot.
16:43Uh, you know, it must be like something to do with healthcare.
16:47It's going to have to do with insurance or something like that.
16:50Somebody's always screwing something up.
16:52This, this, this, uh, provider won't pay.
16:55This person says it's their fault and you're trying to connect the dots.
16:59Neither side is talking.
17:00They just try to make your life miserable.
17:02I mean, that's what it is.
17:03It's a whole, it's a different show though.
17:05We'll get into healthcare and all that stuff.
17:07Maybe at a later date, maybe during the off season, we can do a whole healthcare discussion.
17:11Healthcare discussion.
17:12That will be like, uh, for the office fans out there, Creed Bratton's blog that Ryan
17:16set up and he unbeknownst to him was not online.
17:18So we'll just, we'll just have that show.
17:20We won't hit record, but if you want to vent, we can absolutely do that.
17:23What do you like about the past?
17:24Here's what I like.
17:25I think the Stevenson is obviously so unbelievably impressive to me.
17:30That's, that would be my number one guy.
17:32When I watch him, I always think about the defensive corner that has to come up
17:37and play contain, right?
17:39Who is unblocked.
17:40And the offensive coordinator, Van Pelt says, we have everybody blocked.
17:43You got to make one miss.
17:44And this poor slap is got to run up and try to make contact with a guy that is
17:49untackable, untackleable.
17:51See if I can say that again.
17:52Do you see this arm?
17:53He gave speaking of corners and slapped DJ Reed first quarter.
17:56He's like shimmying outside and DJ reads already following on himself.
17:59It gives them like what looked like almost a polite stiff arm.
18:02It was a tap on the head.
18:03I tweeted out this clip.
18:04He's like, Oh, I'm sorry.
18:05Excuse me.
18:06Goodbye.
18:07And pushes him further into the dirt.
18:08He's so, he's so good.
18:10And imagine if, and because even if a play is unblocked, even in the
18:15beginning of the season, he makes something out of nothing.
18:17He makes something out of nothing.
18:18He's at, at, at worst case scenario for him, he's getting back to the
18:22line of scrimmage.
18:23And so I'm good with second and 10, you know, second and 12.
18:27You're like, Holy crap.
18:28But he is, he is getting back to the line of scrimmage, even though he
18:31gets hit four yards of the backfield.
18:33Guys are getting on, on block.
18:34Linebackers are shooting the gap.
18:36He like stones.
18:38One guy, stiff arms, another guy slips, another one sidesteps this way.
18:43And then he's going forward and he's so strong.
18:45His only problem was his fumbles early on that probably messed with his
18:48confidence, but he's absolutely a stud.
18:50I love him.
18:51The other guy that's starting to kind of over the past three to four weeks
18:56has been booty.
18:57He's been showing up just slowly.
19:01First, it's the go route over here.
19:03It's the go route over there.
19:04And you're like, wow, it's the touchdown, the Drake Mase touchdown.
19:07And you're like, wow, this guy's, they're starting to get a, build a
19:10relationship.
19:11Those guys are, you know, booty's identified.
19:13Stevenson, obviously.
19:14And then defensively for me, it's Gonzalez.
19:17You know, he's just, he's more than, he's more than advertised.
19:20We've touched on a lot.
19:21Let's hand out some awards, but before we do that,
19:23let's hand out 20 bucks to the people.
19:25I'm sure you like finding $20.
19:26Do you ever do that in your pant pocket?
19:28You pull out a 20, you forgot about in there.
19:30Ooh, that's, it's awesome.
19:31It's like showing up when the, it's like showing up to class when they
19:34bring out the VCR and you know, there's no tests or no class.
19:37It's the best.
19:38Okay.
19:39This, this show just got 30 years older with the VCR.
19:4230 years older with that comment.
19:43There are a large chunk of the audience.
19:47No idea what you're talking about, but speaking of free $20,

20:46What time is it?
20:47Game time.
20:48Actually it is a,
20:49it's award time.
20:50So I think I know your answer to this and I think I have the same
20:53answer.
20:54The Patriots MVP at the mid season point.
20:56Yes or no.
20:57Is Ramondry Stevens.
20:58Yeah,
20:59for me,
21:00for me,
21:01it is.
21:02I mean,
21:03but you could,
21:04I mean,
21:05yeah,
21:06he's crazy.
21:07That's the only,
21:08and he's had a,
21:09he had a rough start to the season,
21:10but yeah,
21:11he is your most talented player on the team in my book.
21:14I agree.
21:15And well,
21:16the talent is going to go to a guy that I'm gonna talk about a
21:19little bit later,
21:20but it is amazing.
21:21As you said that this guy fumbled four times in four games,
21:24and you were looking at him as the MVP because the other
21:27numbers here are five touchdowns far and away more than anyone
21:30else in the team.
21:31He has had 27 tackles that he's broken or dodged and he's
21:35averaging Christian over 3.1 yards per carry after contact.
21:41Yeah.
21:42So we're talking about an offensive line.
21:44That's not creating holes for him.
21:46And he says,
21:47that's okay.
21:48I will still average more than all due respect.
21:50Probably,
21:51you know,
21:52an old teammate Antoine Smith had,
21:54you know,
21:55once upon a time,
21:56he was rough for years,
21:57tougher lines.
21:58He's saying,
21:59I will now,
22:00he's going back.
22:01Yeah.
22:02Yeah.
22:03Now I just got older.
22:04It's 3.19,
22:053.2 yards per carry.
22:06After contact is an insane number.
22:08Not amazing.
22:09That just,
22:10there's amazing.
22:11He's creating in a way that you see it.
22:13Drake may.
22:14Cause we're all watching the quarterback elevate the offense.
22:16I can do something when nothing is available.
22:18That's what reminder he's been doing from week one.
22:21Imagine if he didn't have them.
22:23Imagine if he didn't have those numbers are unbelievable.
22:26I'm I'm fine with numbers.
22:27I think that is remarkable.
22:29What he's able to do yards after contact initial hits.
22:33He shreds them.
22:34He goes up field.
22:35He just,
22:36the dude is so such a special back with such.
22:39It's such a combination of speed and balance and toughness.
22:43It's just,
22:44it's just a great back,
22:45man.
22:46All right.
22:47Offensive player of the year.
22:48This is harder.
22:49We got to take Stevenson off of the table.
22:51Oh,
22:52he's off players.
22:53Oh,
22:54okay.
22:55I got one.
22:56You know how they do MVP and like,
22:57Oh,
22:58Lamar Jackson one,
22:59but someone else gets offensive player of the year.
23:00Cause you just can't double up.
23:01It's stupid.
23:02Yeah.
23:03By the rules here.
23:04Who do you got?
23:05Hunter Henry.
23:06Hunter Henry is my best offensive player.
23:09It's not just because it was tight in weekend,
23:11wherever the stupid thing was.
23:13He's the most reliable.
23:15He's the most reliable out of anybody on that offense.
23:19Other than more than Stevenson.
23:21I mean,
23:22he has some issues penalty wise,
23:23which I wish he would,
23:24you know,
23:25clean up,
23:26but well starts Miami.
23:27I,
23:28the dude just catches everything they throw to him.
23:30He's always in the right spot.
23:31It's,
23:32it's,
23:33he's just reliable.
23:34I mean,
23:35he's,
23:36he's just so reliable.
23:37Imagine you can't throw the ball to the outside.
23:39So,
23:40and your only real weapon is,
23:41is,
23:42is Hunter Henry and Hooper.
23:43You know,
23:44I wish they'd involve him a little bit more,
23:45but for me,
23:46it's,
23:47it's easily Hunter Henry.
23:48Spoken like a,
23:49a true former tight end.
23:50What do you think it is?
23:51Look,
23:52we are two for two and it's more than that.
23:56Then,
23:57then the Henry one,
23:58though,
23:59when you look at their efficiency numbers,
24:01what are your yards per play?
24:02They're much better when Hooper and Henry on the field versus when they go to 11
24:06personnel,
24:07which is problematic because pop Douglas is their best receiver.
24:10And he's the guy coming off the field for Austin Hooper.
24:12But that's a conversation for another day.
24:13What are,
24:14because I had the same answer for the same reasons.
24:17It's Hunter Henry,
24:18most consistent,
24:19most reliable.
24:20And you saw it early in that final game winning drive against the jets.
24:23That's where Jacoby preset is going.
24:25It's tight coverage.
24:26It's made a man.
24:27It's a jet saying we have dudes and you don't.
24:29And Jacoby preset throws to Hunter Henry who makes the catch 12 yards first
24:32down.
24:33But as a tight end,
24:34what are you seeing when you watch him?
24:36That may be some other folks are missing either at the top of the route
24:39when he's blocking the tempo of his routes.
24:41Like,
24:42what do you like?
24:43I'm telling you the,
24:44the it's,
24:45this is,
24:46this is the beauty of really all positions.
24:47And in my opinion,
24:49speed is so overrated.
24:51What's the most,
24:52the most important thing I'll just say in that position is the ability to
24:57understand voids and spacing and movement of the defense and not running
25:03into coverage and turning and settling or shifting.
25:07When you need to shift,
25:08you're right in front of the quarterback.
25:10He's looking right at you.
25:11So if you,
25:12if you,
25:13if you run into coverage,
25:14you're just going to make it easy.
25:15Stop three yards short shift to the left.
25:17He'll,
25:18he'll find you.
25:19That is his greatest gift.
25:20You know,
25:21you assume that he can catch the ball.
25:23It's a plus.
25:24He's not a great blocker.
25:25He's not really doing much damage on the edge.
25:28That's not what,
25:29what he is,
25:30but he gets in the way and he's willing.
25:33That's important.
25:34But his greatest asset is his ability to find voids in space.
25:38That's it.
25:39All those other shifty slot receivers,
25:41they all had the same thing.
25:42They were just faster at it.
25:43But that to me is his greatest asset.
25:45Kelsey does it.
25:46They just know where to go.
25:48They just like someone tells me.
25:50And then,
25:51and then the next level is the,
25:54is the freedom that you get when you share a brain with the quarterback.
25:57Hey,
25:58you listen.
25:59I know we,
26:00it says 10 yards now,
26:01but why would I do that?
26:02I know you see the same thing.
26:03I'm going to start.
26:04I'm going to stop three yards short.
26:06I'm going to shift to the left.
26:07Find me easy,
26:08easy.
26:09He's,
26:10he's,
26:11that's why he's great.
26:12They're running so many,
26:13like those little stick concepts,
26:15right?
26:16Go up.
26:17You call it a button hook turn,
26:18right?
26:19And it's usually for spacing against zone or a little out versus man.
26:21And teams know that.
26:22So say,
26:23I'm going to do that at eight yards.
26:24That's where you'll either take it.
26:25Maybe 45 degree angle up the field or go a little bit shorter.
26:28Like you're talking about because,
26:29you know,
26:30Travis Kelsey is not what he was athletically.
26:31Everyone can see that,
26:32but he's still one of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL because he has
26:35the freedom to freelance against own coverage.
26:38And I think that is the next level,
26:39which so.
26:40And that is elite.
26:41That is elite.
26:42That's with all the receivers too,
26:43because can you imagine if every receiver literally ran the route exactly
26:48how it was on the sheet?
26:49No one,
26:50you would,
26:51you would get your numbers,
26:52but you wouldn't do anything special.
26:54What the ability to adapt and improvise has got to be part of your
26:58offensive game plan.
26:59It has got to be.
27:00But when you have young receivers,
27:02inconsistent receivers that who don't understand one,
27:05the coverage to what the,
27:07what,
27:08what we're really trying to do with the route and how we're truly trying
27:11to attack them.
27:12You just,
27:13you'll just get basic numbers.
27:14You know,
27:15there's nothing to brag about.
27:16Well,
27:17it's like quarterback play,
27:18you know,
27:19like,
27:20Hey,
27:21you know,
27:22if you're like Anthony Richardson in Indianapolis and you can run around
27:24and throw bombs,
27:25you need to first master the three,
27:27five step drop,
27:28hit your back foot,
27:29boom,
27:30hit the slant or the dig behind it,
27:32go through your progression reads.
27:33Then you can advance.
27:34You know,
27:35it's like if you were teaching your kids how to drive,
27:37like you need to know how to go to stop sign versus kind of roll
27:39through or how to get somewhere in an extra couple of minutes first,
27:41but like know the rules of the road and then you can bend.
27:43Yeah.
27:44You know what?
27:45My dad used to,
27:46my dad was a cop homicide,
27:47LA detective,
27:48all that stuff for the LA County sheriffs.
27:50And he used to always say,
27:51there's the letter of the law and then there's the spirit of the law.
27:54And that's,
27:55that's what we're talking about.
27:56The letter of the law says you run 10 yards and you turn,
27:58right?
27:59The spirit of a law says,
28:00well,
28:01you know what?
28:02Maybe I should do this.
28:03You know,
28:04that's the attitude that you need to have.
28:06And man,
28:07I wish we had time to rip Anthony Richardson,
28:09maybe another show.
28:10Oh,
28:11you have your own show.
28:12So you can do that.
28:13Coach,
28:14coach to sub out.
28:15All right.
28:16Defensive player of the year,
28:17Christian Gonzalez,
28:18I think is the obvious answer.
28:19Yeah.
28:20I mean,
28:21who else is a close second?
28:22I,
28:23if there is a second,
28:24I don't think it's close because you're looking at all their best
28:27defenders are either injured out or traded on the commissioner's
28:30exemplist.
28:31And my God,
28:32why can't I remember the guy's name?
28:33The defense.
28:34And why am I forgetting his name?
28:35He's a psychopath.
28:3699.
28:37Yeah.
28:38It's the only other answer.
28:39Yeah.
28:40Yeah.
28:41Yeah.
28:42Sorry.
28:43I forgot that now.
28:44Yeah.
28:45He's he's a,
28:46yeah,
28:47he is.
28:48Yeah.
28:49He's a,
28:50he's in a good way,
28:51in a good way.
28:52Like he's one of those guys where in a good way,
28:53in a good way,
28:54man,
28:55that in a good way,
28:56he's one of those guys where you just know he's got bad
28:58intentions and,
28:59you know,
29:00and if you disrespect him or somebody he's with,
29:02he's going to do something about it.
29:03He's the first one in the fight.
29:04He's the last one out.
29:05He's just willing to do whatever it takes.
29:07He's been,
29:08he started off really strong.
29:09He would be my second.
29:10Yeah.
29:11Personally,
29:12because I think.
29:13Teams have to identify him.
29:14I think teams need to understand where he's at.
29:15I think the word is out that he could wreck a play.
29:16He could make a play in a timely manner.
29:17He could win one on one.
29:18He's just sometimes he's a little out of control,
29:19but I'm totally fine with it.
29:20Yeah.
29:21Yeah.
29:22I love him though.
29:23I love him.
29:24He's a,
29:25would it surprise you to know he's a bouncer?
29:26He was a bouncer in college.
29:27He was a bouncer in college.
29:28Yeah.
29:29Yeah.
29:30Yeah.
29:31Yeah.
29:32Yeah.
29:33Yeah.
29:34Yeah.
29:35Yeah.
29:36Yeah.
29:37Yeah.
29:38Yeah.
29:39Yeah.
29:40Yeah.
29:41Yeah.
29:42Yeah.
29:43Yeah.
29:44Yeah.
29:45Yeah.
29:46Yeah.
29:47Yeah.
29:48Yeah.
29:49Yeah.
29:50Yeah.
29:51Yeah.
29:52Yeah.
29:53Yeah.
29:54Yeah.
29:55Yeah.
29:56Yeah.
29:57Yeah.
29:58Yeah.
29:59Yeah.
30:00Yeah.
30:01Yeah.
30:02Yeah.
30:03Oh yeah.
30:04I think so was I,
30:05like I think most,
30:06most football players.
30:07Oh yeah.
30:08Most football.
30:09I dude,
30:10I've worked at this country bar in the San Fernando Valley.
30:11did anyone pop up on you?
30:13Oh yeah, man.
30:14I, it was, I remember I got to the point
30:16and I was like, this bartender was like,
30:18hey man, you got to kick these guys out.
30:21And I said, okay, I have to leave.
30:22And the guy go gets, he goes and he gets a tire iron
30:25and he's yelling my name to come out and fight him.
30:27I'm like, they don't, you don't pay me enough money
30:29to do this.
30:30Like, I'm like, I wasn't even 21.
30:32I was like 20.
30:33I lied about my age to get the job.
30:36But no, it's, it's a horrible job.
30:38He had left, like to his car to get that tire iron?
30:41He went to his car.
30:42We, we escorted him out.
30:45He was out.
30:45He was kicked out.
30:46We escorted him out.
30:47Yeah, he didn't like it.
30:48It's just, it's a terrible environment.
30:50Nobody, like at the end of the night,
30:52everybody's either in a really good mood, you're right.
30:55And then, or they're really shitty, irritable mood.
30:58And we always got the guys that were in a crappy mood
31:00and they're in a country bar.
31:01They all think they're, they're cowboys.
31:03There wasn't a horse within 500 miles of this bar, you know?
31:08Yeah.
31:09All right, next time we're going to delve more
31:11into those stories.
31:12Cause I, I want, I have so many more questions,
31:14but Christian Gonzalez, look,
31:16he gave up zero catches to Devante Adams.
31:18They played a ton of man-to-man coverage.
31:19He, like Keone White, I think has been emblematic
31:23in a way of the season, right?
31:24They both kill it against the Bengals.
31:27They both play well against the Jets.
31:28They win those games.
31:29There are some struggles in between.
31:31Christian's been more consistent.
31:32I think he's more talented than Keone White.
31:34He's your defensive player of the year.
31:35So far, it's mid-season.
31:36Make it surprise.
31:37I'm going to go negative here.
31:38It's the run defense.
31:39They're fourth worst by pro football focus,
31:42fourth worst by DBOA, four and a half yards to carry.
31:45We've all watched it.
31:45They've given up over 190 yards in a single game,
31:48multiple times to bad rushing offenses.
31:51This is something that I think even surprised the Patriots.
31:54Cause you heard as well as I did.
31:55Drive Mayo after week one, go ahead.
31:57Here's the deal.
31:58We're always going to have a good run defense.
32:00And look, that's media and that's messaging.
32:01And I think he learned from that.
32:02And they've had injuries, which are important.
32:04The spine of their defense, Barmore, Bentley, Peppers,
32:07right down the middle, like a baseball team.
32:09You can't have those players suck
32:11and put on a good product,
32:12but they have been lower than suck for stretches this year.
32:15As I just said, bottom five by a lot of metrics.
32:17Yeah, I'm with you.
32:19I was trying to think of a special teams aspect,
32:22but I would, I'd still say, because this is,
32:26it's so cliche.
32:27Cliches are, they're cliches because they're true.
32:31They're running the football and stopping the run.
32:33If you are, or you are incapable of fighting back
32:39and you just look just depressed and just,
32:42and you just want to give up
32:43because you can't do anything about it.
32:45They keep running the ball and you can't stop them.
32:48You just get demoralized and you feel your self-worth
32:51is in the toilet and there's no answer.
32:54And so you try a different technique.
32:55You do this, do that.
32:56It just doesn't work.
32:57The only reason why they got a break last week
33:00because the Jets were stupid.
33:02One, their run offense was not, it's not great,
33:05but they still didn't want to take advantage of it.
33:08So yeah, and that's got to hurt Jarrod a lot
33:11in Covington a lot because man, listen,
33:14I know we got some good receivers out there
33:16and this game is about speed and, you know,
33:19and all these receivers getting paid all this big money.
33:22If we're going to hang our hat on anything,
33:24let's just be really good at stopping the run.
33:27That's it.
33:28If we suck at pass defense, I'm fine with it.
33:30What we can't do is let the league know
33:34that they can pick on us.
33:37Right.
33:38And that's what they've been doing.
33:39Run fits and just pad level,
33:42things that should be non-negotiable
33:44and being gap sound or things that they're missing.
33:47And things that they can fix.
33:48Things that they can fix that.
33:50And they made progress against the Jets
33:51who had just four yards to carry.
33:52Went from five in the first half
33:54to three allowed in the second.
33:56And so there was progress there.
33:57And we talk about the Jets don't have a great running game.
33:59That's more to do with the offensive line.
34:00It's not Brees Hall.
34:01It's not Braylon Allen.
34:02Yeah, but still it's still a group thing, right?
34:06Right.
34:07And most of that line stinks in that regard.
34:08Honorable mention for a positive
34:09and then we'll get to biggest disappointment.
34:11For me as a safety group without Duggar and Peppers,
34:13like Del Pettis is an undrafted rookie
34:15who's played 112 defensive snaps.
34:17You want to guess how many tackles he's missed?
34:20Oh, geez.
34:21A lot.
34:21Zero.
34:22Zero.
34:23Oh, no.
34:24This is a positive honorable mention.
34:25Zero for Del Pettis.
34:27Marte Mapu, his first game back off of PUP,
34:29wearing the green dot in a game you should have beat Miami,
34:33but they allow 15 points.
34:34He plays all of the snaps.
34:35Jalen Hawkins has been very good in coverage.
34:37Dropped the pick that we saw from him
34:39and he's missed some tackles.
34:40But like that's a guy who was a special teamer.
34:41Came in.
34:42When you're down, Duggar, Peppers is out of the picture now.
34:45And those three guys have to carry you
34:47because this is a nickel defense at its core.
34:48Like I've been impressed.
34:50I like what I saw from those guys.
34:51So, man, when I look at their defense,
34:55I wish I was playing when these guys were playing.
34:59These tiny little linebackers.
35:01There's no punch to anything that they're doing.
35:05They're all will linebackers.
35:06They're Donnie Edwards.
35:07Another blast from the past.
35:09Can I go special teams for honorable mention?
35:11Yeah, yeah.
35:12Schooler.
35:14All day long.
35:15All day long.
35:16He has a lot of pride in his work.
35:19He's tough to handle.
35:20He shows up all the time.
35:22That's the thing.
35:23All the time.
35:24And all four and every single aspect of special teams,
35:27that guy's showing up.
35:29He's a big part of just the overall hope of success.
35:36That guy's a keeper.
35:38All right, let's breeze through the last couple here
35:39and we'll get a quick thought on past Titans.
35:41Biggest disappointment.
35:42I'm gonna just go to the receiver room.
35:44And this is someone who said
35:45this might be a bottom five group in the league.
35:47But you have four or five drops against the Jets.
35:50Kendrick Bourne is not getting open.
35:52KJ Osborne is separating the least of anyone
35:54in the league at the catch point.
35:55Jayvon Baker can't see the field.
35:56Jalen Polk I think will bounce back.
35:58But two catches and three drops
36:00in your last 13 targets in the last three weeks.
36:03This is, ugh.
36:07See, I feel like, see, my end is the offensive line
36:09and I feel like we can't pick on them for some reason.
36:13I agree.
36:14Is it, I feel like, well, you know,
36:16it's like the seven or eight different combinations.
36:18They're all new.
36:19Some guy's just showing up.
36:20I shouldn't expect them to be good.
36:23I did expect a little bit more
36:24from the wide receivers, I'm sure.
36:26But again, you had a couple of rookies in there,
36:28a couple of guys that have, you know, free agents,
36:31guys that were hurt.
36:32I mean, I think it's a toss up
36:35between the offensive line and the receivers.
36:40I mean, can I just go push on this one?
36:42Yeah, yeah, sure.
36:43And we, again, acknowledging that no one expected
36:45the offensive line to dominate this year.
36:47And you throw in all the injuries.
36:49The fact that last Sunday was the first time all season
36:51they had a starting lineup
36:52that had started to get together before that game,
36:55making their second collective start together
36:57with a guy at center who wasn't even on the team
36:58four weeks ago in Ben Brown.
37:00And that's why I feel like they get a break.
37:02I feel like we cut them some slack.
37:04And for a similar reason,
37:05though these guys are also paid professionals and adults,
37:08coaching to me would be in that category too.
37:11Biggest disappointment, more defensively.
37:13And they've had a ton of injuries
37:14and Covington's new and it's a smaller staff,
37:16but like you just expect it a little bit better.
37:18But I belabored coaching,
37:19written about it, criticized in multiple columns.
37:20Everyone knows why and how.
37:22Let's get to a bold second half prediction.
37:24So the Patriots have nine games left.
37:26I don't know if Drake May is going to play in all nine.
37:28I don't know if he's going to play Sunday
37:30as we record here Wednesday.
37:31And he's going through concussion protocol.
37:33I do think though, he will at least tie for the team lead
37:37in rushing touchdowns by the end of the season
37:39on scrambles and garbage time.
37:41And in some quarterback design stuff
37:42that we haven't seen yet.
37:43And reminder, Stephenson right now
37:44is a four touchdown lead on him, Christian.
37:46I don't think this is crazy.
37:48I think if you are someone who is inclined to play fantasy,
37:51pick him up.
37:51I know Doug Hyde has,
37:53and I think he will finish tied for the team lead.
37:55If not, leave the team outright in rushing touchdowns.
37:57Wow.
37:58Okay.
37:59See, cause my thing is that, you know,
38:02once you play, the teams are not going to let him run
38:05anymore.
38:06Well, they're going to try.
38:07I mean, it's not right.
38:08It's funny.
38:09It's like first, it's like first, I know.
38:12Right.
38:13What a dope.
38:15It's like first time, shame on, shame on you.
38:18Second time, shame on me.
38:19That whole thing.
38:20I just don't think they're going to give him lanes anymore.
38:22He guys, the guy can run.
38:23He's looking to run.
38:24Don't do it.
38:26I'm going to go negative because I do.
38:30I still believe it's going to get worse.
38:32What I think Drake may,
38:33and I'll stick with the quarterback too.
38:35When you look at who knows when he plays,
38:38but I think his interception total is going to,
38:42is going to overtake his total touchdown totals,
38:47throwing and rushing.
38:49I do.
38:50I think he's been lucky.
38:53He's been lucky.
38:53He could have, should have had a pick six
38:55a couple of weeks ago.
38:56Should have had two interceptions.
38:59It's like defensive against that,
39:00that London game against Jacksonville.
39:02One of those throws should have been a pick six.
39:03Guy can't hold onto the ball.
39:05And he threw another one.
39:06The guy just dropped.
39:07That's coming.
39:08And I only say that not just to pick on it
39:10because it's just,
39:12I hate to always do this,
39:13but he's these rookies are due for this type of
39:16just mental breakdown.
39:18And maybe because he has to start the whole season,
39:20maybe he kind of avoids it.
39:23And maybe we see it last year,
39:24but it happens to all of them.
39:25All of them.
39:26They just see ghosts.
39:27They don't see straight.
39:29They get tricked.
39:30Defensive coordinators understand how to bait them.
39:33They play against a better quarterback
39:34that just kind of sees something
39:36and they just wait for it.
39:37They jumped the route.
39:38They take it back.
39:40They hate to be negative as we end the show,
39:42but yeah, I'm going to say that his interceptions,
39:44his total interceptions will,
39:50so I go, what do you say?
39:51Russian touchdowns.
39:52It will be higher than his total touchdowns,
39:53which I think is crazy because I think,
39:55as I just said,
39:56he's going to get the Russian touchdowns.
39:56You said bold?
39:57But no, no, it is bold.
40:00The point about the three interception game coming,
40:02that's absolutely true.
40:03For him, it's a matter of risk avoidance
40:08versus what he's going to find out,
40:09what he can get away with, right?
40:11For example, like scrambling and throwing
40:12that long touchdown, or not touchdown pass,
40:14long pass to Tyquan Thornton,
40:16who dropped it in the first quarter,
40:17is an extended play, off schedule, rolling out.
40:21Maybe I can fit this in 50 yards downfield.
40:22Maybe I can't.
40:23He found out that he could, which is a possible
40:25because the Patriots need plays like that,
40:27but it will also embolden him to try things
40:29that he shouldn't.
40:30And that is where I think you will see
40:31some of the interceptions.
40:32I don't think this is going to happen
40:33over the entire season,
40:35but the game that you're talking about,
40:36Brady had them in his second year.
40:38All of them led the league in picks.
40:39His first season, it's a rookie thing.
40:42And he's got every kind of qualifier for that game.
40:46Inconsistent, young receivers who are on and off the field.
40:49Yeah, protection.
40:50An offensive line that is all over the place.
40:52He's going to end up panicking and be reckless,
40:55and he's going to try and make a play.
40:56And I would throw in the fact that he's going to scramble
40:58and there's going to be a fumble return for a touchdown.
41:00That's coming also.
41:01Oh my God.
41:03See, when I throw you those lifelines
41:05and talk about this has happened,
41:07and people have done this, and this is why,
41:07and it's a good thing.
41:08I'm trying to throw you a lifeline, not him.
41:10Like, he'll be fine.
41:11Everyone loves him.
41:12This is, everyone loves Drake May,
41:14self-included as far as a football player
41:16and a prospect of what he'll do,
41:17but rookie growing pains, you do as well.
41:20I just, we're going to get out of here.
41:22All right, two last things.
41:23What do you want to see from this team in second half?
41:25The easy answer is win.
41:26The easy answer is build a culture, be close,
41:28be competitive, yada, yada.
41:29We know they're going to finish with a losing record,
41:31probably by a wide margin.
41:33My thing is simple.
41:34Just better protection for Drake May.
41:36This needs to be an environment
41:38where you feel like you can evaluate not only him,
41:40but the other young players on the team.
41:42If you have too many injuries, inconsistent coaching,
41:44bad situations, you don't know what you have
41:46because they're not put in,
41:48basically what you would call
41:49is like a clean enough lab, right?
41:50If you have contamination of all the different samples
41:53or whatever you're measuring,
41:54and there's a ton of noise, or it's just not clean enough,
41:56like you need to create a situation.
41:58I can evaluate this quarterback.
41:59I know what I need to give him
42:01and the receivers and the offensive linemen around.
42:04All right, so I'm not going to be as technical as you.
42:07I just want it to be respectable.
42:10I just want it to be competitive.
42:12I don't want it to be a laughingstock.
42:14I'm fine if you get physically beat up.
42:17I'm totally fine with that.
42:19What I don't want to see is just pockets here
42:23or pockets there or finger pointing.
42:25I just want to see, if they just show me some fight
42:29and it's what I'm looking at is respectable.
42:33And all I'm doing is like,
42:34well, they just don't have the talent yet,
42:36but man, they know what it takes to win.
42:38They just don't have the pieces yet.
42:40That's all I want to see.
42:41That's it.
42:42And so far it hasn't been the case.
42:46So the second half of the season,
42:49that's what I want to see.
42:50I think that's fair.
42:52Speaking of fight,
42:53they're going to see a little bit from Tennessee.
42:55Titans are three and a half point favorites
42:56as we speak right now, which feels a little bit crazy,
42:59but when you look again at the deeper metrics,
43:00Patriots are 31st by DVOA overall.
43:02They are two and six.
43:03Titans are one and six.
43:04They just lost 52 to 14 to Detroit
43:07because of their league worst special teams.
43:09Before that lost 34 to 10 to the Bills.
43:11Before that, 20 to 17 at home to the Colts.
43:14And before that, 31 to 12 versus Miami.
43:16Their only win this season coming at the expense
43:19of the Seahawks, or excuse me, that's a preseason.
43:21We are looking earlier at the Dolphins.
43:23So they actually beat the Dolphins 31 to 12.
43:25I can read.
43:26They have the ninth best defense by DVOA.
43:29Again, their special teams is the worst.
43:31Their offense is bottom five.
43:32This is an ugly take the under kind of game.
43:35You know, again, May starting versus Brissette
43:38is going to be a big deal.
43:40We don't know where that is yet right now as we record.
43:42What else are you just looking for here?
43:44Understanding they just got spanked.
43:45The Patriots are coming off of a win
43:47and this should at very least be a physical football game.
43:51To me, the formula will be the same the entire year.
43:55What they need to do because they're not as talented
43:58and they're dealing with so many different issues.
44:00If they just, and this is easier said than done,
44:03just play what I would call a clean game.
44:06Hey, you know what?
44:08So big deal.
44:09They get a 10 yard return on punt return.
44:12Big deal.
44:12Don't have a penalty.
44:13Hey, you know what?
44:14It's third and sixth.
44:16Hey, pre-snap, don't have a penalty.
44:17Don't make it harder on ourselves.
44:20Defense.
44:21You don't have to be great.
44:22Just be good.
44:23Just be good.
44:24Let the other guy make a bunch of mistakes.
44:27If their special teams are crap,
44:29take advantage of it, exploit it.
44:31You just don't give them any short fields
44:34and easy opportunities.
44:36The reason why they beat the Cincinnati Bengals
44:37because they were opportunistic.
44:39The Bengals couldn't get out of their own way.
44:41Short fields, turnovers gave them shorter fields,
44:44easier scoring opportunities,
44:47and the defense gave themselves a little help.
44:49So to me, that's the formula for this team
44:52against any team.
44:54So you have a team like Tennessee that just got whooped.
44:57You're hoping like, what's, are they even into this?
44:59Are they like looking at, they're like,
45:01oh, what should I do for the off season?
45:03Are their bags packed?
45:04Maybe.
45:05That's hard to overcome when somebody puts 50 plus on you.
45:09You have a hard time looking yourself in the mirror.
45:11So I think that all this game is winnable for the Patriots.
45:16Easily winnable.
45:17Yeah.
45:18I'm still looking at the first quarter.
45:20I don't think it's an accident.
45:21And I understand that they had to overcome Drake May
45:24leaving the first quarter
45:25when they get that first touchdown,
45:27you start fast again and the Jets answered,
45:29but it just gives you a little bit of confidence,
45:32like proof of concept.
45:33Hey, we can go out here and do this
45:35and to keep it close later,
45:36because we know if they're playing from behind,
45:39that game for the most part is over.
45:41Like that's just what it is.
45:42And I understand how they finished against the Jets
45:44who for whatever reason lost their minds
45:46and changed their entire game plan for that last drive
45:48after what had largely worked against Jacoby Percet
45:52in the middle quarters.
45:52But I think you need to go in there,
45:54assert some control over the game,
45:56dictate terms to them,
45:58and make Mason Rudolph or Will Levis, whoever it is,
46:01catch up and play from behind.
46:02Because the first team that has to do that,
46:03I think is in real trouble.
46:06Yeah, no, I'm with you.
46:10And what I would say, the other aspect,
46:12see if Drake May's not playing,
46:14the past couple of games, it's been run, run.
46:17First series for the Patriots offense, run, run,
46:20obvious third down pass.
46:21No gain, no gain, third and seven, third and eight.
46:25I would start out in two tight end sets,
46:28I would flex them out,
46:29and I would throw the freaking ball.
46:32That's what I would do.
46:33I would let them match you.
46:35I think that's your best position,
46:39like your best offensive group is the two tight end set.
46:42Little seven yard stick route,
46:45but if you want to take it,
46:45you want to improvise Hunter Henry,
46:47you do your thing, man,
46:48because you have earned that with the official
46:50mid-season offensive player of the year award
46:52from Chris Poirier and yours truly.
46:54It's been great to have you back, man.
46:55I can't wait to chat again.
46:57Again, Coach to Win is the new show,
46:59but you can't find bartender stories here.
47:01They will only be on the next time when we have you back.
47:04Oh, bartender, excuse me, bouncer, bouncer.
47:06Bouncer, I wish I was a bartender.
47:08Hell, that was easier.
47:09Yeah, no, bouncer.
47:11Yeah, we'll do that next time.
47:12Honest to God, we'll just do,
47:13we'll just call it uncomfortable stories from my past.
47:17Okay, this is not therapy.
47:18If it is, I'm going to charge you more for that episode.
47:21Appreciate you, buddy.
47:23All right, buddy, sounds good.
47:24Special Halloween edition of the four minute drill
47:26here with Christian Gonzalez, who I just informed.
47:29It's also a special edition
47:30because we've crowdsourced some questions.
47:32We have questions from your teammates.
47:33You don't know what they want me to ask you,
47:36but I think you're going to enjoy it
47:36and they're going to go right off the top.
47:37So here we go.
47:38Question number one,
47:40how much money do you spend on TikTok?
47:43On TikTok, ooh, I actually just made an order
47:47like probably an hour ago.
47:48What'd you buy?
47:50What did I buy?
47:52Bought some snacks, a rug, some decorations for the house.
47:59TikTok got some good stuff on there.
48:00All right.
48:01When you're at home, you're playing Call of Duty.
48:03Someone wants to know, why are you so bad?
48:06Who asked this one?
48:07Can't tell you.
48:08They crazy.
48:10Last night I did have a bad game,
48:11but majority of the time I'm out there stepping.
48:15All right, last one.
48:16You won't guess who this is from.
48:17If you get 10 reps against Pop Douglas,
48:19why are you losing all 10?
48:21He crazy.
48:22That's why he ain't ask me.
48:23He ain't ask me, but he going to win some,
48:25but I like me over him.
48:27Okay.
48:28In the spirit of Halloween,
48:29what spooks Christian Gonzalez the most?
48:34What speaks to me the most?
48:37I don't know.
48:38Nothing?
48:39Spiders, snakes, a guy running to the end zone
48:41who's too far away for even you to catch up and watch?
48:44Yeah.
48:45Giving up touchdowns.
48:46How about KB?
48:47Cause he's over there making noise.
48:48Is he scary at all?
48:49No, no, no, no, no, no.
48:51Not many people know this.
48:52Your brother-in-law is David Blau,
48:54ex-quarterback in the NFL, now coaching with Washington.
48:57How badly would you like to intercept your brother-in-law?
49:01Oh yeah, of course.
49:02Of course I would want to intercept my brother-in-law.
49:05Oh yeah, of course.
49:06Of course I would want to.
49:08That'd be crazy.
49:09He wouldn't like it, obviously.
49:12But I mean, I wish I got a chance, but it's all right.
49:15Any backyard games with the family?
49:18Oh yeah, for sure.
49:19We always talk smack me and him.
49:21Did you pick him in the backyard?
49:24I probably have sometimes.
49:25I don't remember, but he ain't complete nothing on me.
49:32Do you believe in ghosts?
49:33No.
49:34No?
49:35All right, what's the worst advice a coach ever gave you?
49:39Worst advice a coach ever gave me?
49:43Could be any sport, any level, anything.
49:44Something simple, and you're like,
49:45that just ain't right the second you heard it.
49:48You have to be able to lift a lot of weight
49:51to be a good football player.
49:52Oh, well, there you go.
49:54What's the least amount of weight you can do?
49:56Like, you're obviously plenty athletic speed.
49:59This is not a test of your manhood.
50:00You just admitted, in some degree,
50:02you can't lift a whole lot.
50:02Bench is what?
50:03Like, what are you maxing out at?
50:05Yeah.
50:06I ain't maxed out in a long time.
50:07I don't know.
50:09Once you get out of high school, you don't really max out.
50:11I mean, in college, I couldn't tell you.
50:16I ain't maxed out probably in about four years, so.
50:18All right, there you go.
50:19Let's go with this one.
50:20If you could hit this teammate every day in practice,
50:22who would it be?
50:26Dial, Marcellus.
50:28A fellow corner, wow.
50:30Defense on defense crying.
50:31Why Marcellus?
50:32He's a rookie.
50:33He's my young bud.
50:34I gotta get him right.
50:35All right.
50:36Christian Gonzalez is out at a bar,
50:37or he's out at the movies.
50:39He's out anywhere.
50:39What's his best pickup line, aside from,
50:41I play for the New England Patriots?
50:43Oh, you ain't getting that out of me.
50:45I ain't bringing nothing football related up.
50:48Nothing?
50:49We just talked about ghosts and lifting.
50:52Oh, you're saying at the bar, the club,
50:53you're not bringing up that you play at all?
50:54No, not at all.
50:55Okay, so what do you say?
50:59I don't know.
51:00It depends.
51:02I don't know.
51:03I ain't saying nothing.
51:04I'll let them approach.
51:05You'll let them approach.
51:06Okay, plenty cool.
51:08Teammates always say,
51:09I want this teammate to have my back in the trenches.
51:11This is a dog.
51:12He'll have my back.
51:13Who is that number one teammate for you?
51:20Or you can go the opposite.
51:21Who's at the end of the list?
51:23And guys have answered this question before.
51:24Who do you want least having your back in the trenches?
51:27Um, I'll go to the first one, Keyon.
51:32Keyon, all right.
51:33Self-explanatory.
51:34Two more real quick.
51:35We got five seconds left in the four minute drill.
51:37Do you have a Gerard Mayo impression?
51:39No, I ain't got one.
51:41I ain't got one.
51:41Smart man.
51:42All right, least favorite media question.
51:45Um, somebody, this happened recently
51:51that when we went to London,
51:53they asked me about if people ate bad food.
51:57What that, I don't know.
51:59That was a bad question.
52:00Okay.
52:01It got nothing to do with me,
52:02nothing to do with football.
52:03So, I mean, it was just pointless.
52:06I did see that clip.
52:06Shout out to Rich and Keith and Adam Jones, WEI.
52:09Enough about the bad food in London,
52:10though that also might've been,
52:11oh, he left, Kendrick Pornsville.
52:13Christian Gonzalez wants the ladies to know
52:14you gotta come to him.
52:15Otherwise he will be all over you in the football field.
52:18I appreciate you, man.
52:19Patriots shut down corner.
