00:00It is caught! Touchdown!
00:04The New England Patriots select Drake May.
00:08He's got the ball! And that's the ballgame!
00:12What a week eight it was.
00:16Happy days for some. Depressing for others.
00:20Welcome to the All 32 Pod. Mike Giardi alongside
00:24Will Parkinson as always. A reminder, this show brought to you by PrizePix, the exclusive
00:28Daily Fantasy partner of the CLNS Media Network. In game time,
00:32best tickets, best prices, so you get to see any event
00:36that you want to see. Will, we're going to jump right into it. Patriots-Jets.
00:40In my backyard yesterday. Huge game for the Jets based on how
00:44they've been playing. Lost four in a row after beating the Patriots on that, what now
00:48seems like eons ago, that Thursday night game in Jersey. Patriots
00:52of course had lost six straight. Coach calls them soft, tries to walk it back.
00:56End of the day, Patriots win 25-22. And while there's
01:00plenty to talk about with the Patriots, I think the obvious starting point here is the Jets.
01:04As you and I were texting during the game,
01:08I know mathematically it's still possible, but it sure feels like that team is
01:12dead where they stand. Yeah, look, I think
01:16in terms of trades and what could happen in the future,
01:20Thursday is the biggest indication. If they beat Houston, you can talk yourself and it will be five and six to
01:24five. We lost to the Patriots, but we beat Houston, so we're kind of net even.
01:28Whatever. We'll talk about that when we get to it. We'll record it on Thursday
01:32and we'll preview that game. But from all intents and purposes,
01:36it's felt like every single week
01:40between kicking special teams in general for the Jets, Brent Boyer, who's been the special
01:44teams coach for three regimes now, which is pretty much you've never seen
01:48in the NFL. Mike Westos, one of the only guys I've seen survive like that
01:52coaching staff to coaching staff. He's probably the best ever.
01:56Brent Boyer is not the best ever. He's a good football coach and that's
02:00great. The Jets special teams have been a huge issue this year.
02:04I believe over the last three to four years, every year DVOA,
02:08top five defense, top five specials, and the worst or second worst
02:12offense. That's the whole thing building this thing was load up on the
02:16offense. They just got a status quo. Even if they drop off a little bit,
02:20they'll be all right. We'll get to the offense in a moment, but
02:24I think the biggest issue for me yesterday was two things happened.
02:28As much as Drake May was doing well against the Patriots and against the Jets, I am not
02:32taking anything away from him at all. It felt like the second he went out, the Jets just stopped
02:36playing defense. I feel like it was
02:40their point of adversity yesterday. I felt like when he went out, was it
02:4413-7 if I'm not mistaken? He didn't come back out for that next
02:48drive. I'm looking at, I'm getting texts from you and
02:52a lot of our colleagues in the media and my brothers and
02:56everyone saying, hey, this game's over. Drake May's out. They should blow him out. I'm thinking
03:00yeah, they should, but in the back of my head, I'm like, this is a team that handles
03:04adversity worse than anybody probably in the league. It felt like the defense
03:08majority of the time stopped trying. Not actually stopped trying. I'm not
03:12implying they quit. I just want to make sure that doesn't, but my point
03:16being, he was like, oh, we don't have to be as locked in as we probably just were. It felt like the
03:20offense was like, oh, we'll just coast. We kind of figured it out here and two touchdown
03:24drives in a row and we've moved the ball all four drives. We're good.
03:28The Jets have the worst kicker in the NFL this year.
03:32Greg Zierlein's a really good player and that's all great. He's 9-15
03:36as well as missed, I believe, two or three extra points in seven weeks
03:40or eight weeks. Six missed field goals, multiple extra points.
03:44The Jets have a lot of issues. If they had a kicker, they'd probably be
03:485-3 or 6-2 right now.
03:52The NFL and Patriots fans will know this better than anybody. Belichick used to talk about this all the time.
03:5690% of the NFL is not losing football games. That's how we used to beat the Jets
04:00every time. Devin McCourty told a famous story on my podcast about him
04:04playing Zach Wilson in 2022. Mike, you were at that game. The Jets were 6-2.
04:08If I'm not mistaken, they're 5-2. The Patriots, 3-4
04:12or somewhere in that range. Zach Wilson's not playing terrible football.
04:16The Jets are rolling. Finally, the Patriots have
04:20Brady. They have a much better team. Bill told them
04:24all week, do not lose this game.
04:28Do not make mistakes. Make our kicks.
04:32Don't turn the football over. Stay at your assignment and
04:36you will turn them over. The Jets will beat themselves. That's what they did yesterday.
04:40The Patriots tried damn hard to beat themselves. The Jets missing kicks.
04:44The play clock stuff was a disaster because Rodgers needs everything to be perfect
04:48right now because he can't move and he needs to see everything. He doesn't want to get hit.
04:52He's audibling and waving downing off.
04:56There's so much to unpack from this game because I felt like
05:00there's a building moment there a little bit for New England. This was such an encapsulation
05:04of all the things that have gone wrong for the Jets over the last 15 years.
05:08It's all mixed into one game. The Patriots are now
05:12in second place in the division or whatever it is at this point.
05:16It's bananas. The Rodgers question, we talked about it leading up to the game
05:20in our preview pod about some of the stats coming into the game
05:24indicate that he's playing the worst football of his career.
05:28What I saw in person was a guy who
05:32is 40 who looked like he was 60.
05:36He's struggling to move and look, no quarterback wants to take contact
05:40but he really didn't want to take any contact yesterday. The quarterback that the
05:44Patriots got beat by in week three, that wasn't the same guy
05:48that you saw Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
05:52Just pretty much stuck in the pocket. Even Patriot defenders
05:56talking about afterwards, man,
06:00he ain't right. It's Devon Gottschall basically saying
06:04330 pounds if I can chase him down. It's kind of sad
06:08to see but I wonder part of this too
06:12the Patriots had an approach for him yesterday.
06:16They went back and watched film from previous meetings with Aaron and they said
06:20look, he loves to find the matchup that he can exploit and that clearly was Garrett
06:24Wilson versus Marcus Jones and he exploited
06:28it pretty well. 100 plus yards receiving, whatever, touch, all those things.
06:32However, when they were showing the film to the guys
06:36they were like, but sometimes he'll pass up the stuff underneath
06:40because he's so beholden to this one matchup that he won't take the easier
06:44throws, the open throws and kind of going through the tape
06:48today, there are plenty of throws that he left out.
06:52Devon could have had 200 yards yesterday. That first half was like, dude,
06:56he's open every time and Gonzalez is a great player and I'm not taking anything away
07:00from him. He was sticky yesterday. The play he had down, I thought the play he had on third
07:04down that eventually led to the missed field goal was the play of the game. I thought that
07:08in the punt return yesterday were the two plays. If the Jets make either of those plays, New England doesn't.
07:12This is a borderline of two touchdown win easily.
07:16But because the Jets don't go in and capitalize there, I don't know if that was at 16-14
07:20or if it was at 17
07:24at that point. I don't remember. I think maybe 17-14 the Jets missed
07:28or whatever it was. Gonzalez makes a great play, but Devonta
07:32was open all day long and Aaron wasn't throwing it
07:36or he was missing them. He feels so off and I don't feel
07:40like he's playing confident right now at all. I think, again,
07:44there's a lot of things that you could look back on with this Jets team and with Rodgers in particular,
07:48but the way Rodgers left that week three game was the best he's looked in
07:52since he won the MVP in 2021, I believe.
07:56He gets destroyed in the Denver game.
08:00I don't know. That game was a sloppy mess. They go over to London and he takes
08:04that shot. I referenced it last week.
08:08That shot, I almost think you look back, it's Hindsight 2020. Their season ended
08:12right there because he couldn't move anymore. Once he couldn't move,
08:16it eliminates so much of what he's good at.
08:20They're easy to game plan for. It's torpedoed.
08:24He's not playing confident football, which means the rest of the guys, you're feeding off this guy that you've been
08:28told for now 18 months, right?
08:32He's the only thing you need. If you just do what you were doing now and he comes in
08:36and when he's not, it's just an unfair, even to
08:40ask Tom in his prime or whoever, you're asking a lot of anybody, let alone a guy
08:44who's playing on a pretty clearly
08:48injured hamstring, which is, I think, the biggest reason why he can't move is because he thinks that
08:52feels like if he moves too much, it's going to pop. I don't blame him.
08:56I don't know. I didn't mean to cut you off there. I'm watching back to him. Devontae's open.
09:00Garrett's open. Conklin had whatever he wanted yesterday. He only gave him three targets, which
09:04made no sense, especially with no peppers, especially with no Duggar.
09:08He beat, again, two games. He's got, what, eight for 150, a touchdown
09:12or two against him. Why did they go to him three times? Brees had whatever he wanted.
09:16For them to only have 22 points there and then let Jacoby carve him up and sauce
09:20this year is frustrating.
09:24I don't know how much you've felt this, but Kishan
09:28Butte, who is not good, and then on top of that had like 12
09:32drops in this game after calling out he was prime Randy Moss.
09:36That route, I think that I
09:40could have probably T-stepped a little better than sauce. I don't know what sauce was doing.
09:44It was an encapsulation of an absolute mess yesterday. Credit to New England, though.
09:48They obviously took advantage. You talked about in the beginning
09:52when I first posed you the game about the
09:56adversity and this team dealing with adversity worse than any team in the league.
10:00This is no big, huge 30,000
10:04foot question. How do they address that? Because the roster
10:08is what it is. You went out and traded
10:12for Devontae Adams. They did. They went in on
10:16Aaron Smith, which was the right thing to do at the time. They had to upgrade their offensive line.
10:20Morgan Moses, on and on it goes. They built this team for now
10:24because the quarterback has to be for now.
10:28But if you're having come-to-Jesus moments with the guy
10:32you just acquired six, seven days ago and Devontae Adams giving the post-game
10:36speech, and then you go into New England and lose to a team
10:40that was 1-6, had lost six in a row, and was just getting curb-stomped
10:44everywhere they went, I can't imagine what
10:48that locker room is like right now.
10:52The term was darkness, right? Days of darkness.
10:56They're in the darkness, man. I don't know if they know where the light switch is.
11:00I think that guys are
11:04in a very, very, very
11:08turning point. Yesterday probably was.
11:12The issue is that yesterday shouldn't have to be the turning point.
11:16There's three different times the season should have turned.
11:20We talked about the same thing, right before Buffalo, right before Pittsburgh, right before New England,
11:24even before the Minnesota game. I think the one thing, and I know
11:28we're spending a lot of time on Jets here, but a couple of things
11:32that I wanted to get your opinion on, and one of which is
11:36what they do with trading guys off or not. Again, we'll talk about that more after Thursday
11:40but wait at that point. Jugg Douglas is a lame duck GM. He's going to be fired
11:44either soon or after the year relieved of his contract. They're going to have to overhaul
11:48everything. I don't know
11:52what they do with some of these guys because, yeah, you probably do
11:56trade a Mike Williams. Even if you win, I don't know, Mike Williams should probably move anyways.
12:00DJ Reed, I think if you lose on Thursday, you probably move on because
12:04the contending team, it's a pro-ball level corner you could get. He has
12:08not a lot of money left on that deal, obviously, expiring. Does someone kick the tires
12:12on Tyron Smith with very little money remaining that has an injury? If you're the Bucs
12:16or the Browns, if the Browns figure it out, win two in a row here.
12:20They're just using examples of teams with tackle problems. Do they kick the tires?
12:24The Jets are going to want to get a look at Olu. The kind of questions from
12:28here on the Jets are, how do you handle the second-tier starter
12:32veterans? A Tyler Conklin, a Jamie Sherwood,
12:36and a Morgan Moses, all who are average or above-level starters that
12:40are not going to get paid massive amounts of money. At some point, in my opinion,
12:44you keep those guys and you try to extend them because as you go into a rebuild,
12:48you do need players. A first-year GM, first-year coach is going to try to get that first-year
12:52hey, we won eight games and we were supposed to win four
12:56and that just bought me three. The Giants example.
13:00You want to win nine or ten games that year first year because it buys you time.
13:04The other question is, Mike, who's taking this job?
13:08I talked a little bit about it. I tweeted about it. Yeah, it's not going to happen.
13:12But just for argument's sake, Pete Carroll comes in and he's like, hey, I don't want to coach
13:16any more of that Bill Parcells model of let me oversee everything
13:20and kind of correct a lot of your infrastructure problems. Mike Vrabel
13:24makes all the sense in the world for the Jets, but is Mike Vrabel going to take that job? I have no idea.
13:28And GM search, it's anybody's guess. I threw out Ray Agnew because he's been
13:32with the Rams and Lions and kind of done, reestablished the culture and then
13:36I don't know. Is there anyone that comes to mind for you that you're like
13:40Ulbrich's not going to be back realistically. Zvio Drogos isn't either.
13:44Where do you see this kind of going even though it's insane we're talking about this on October 20th?
13:48Yeah, not expected.
13:52Vrabel makes sense in a lot of ways because
13:56I think they're desperate for a program culture guy and he did help
14:00build a program in Tennessee. And yes, it went bad at the very end
14:04as the roster sort of disintegrated and he couldn't keep
14:08it together anymore. And that could be as much about John Robinson
14:12and then first year GM ran Carthon is now in year two
14:16and Carthon ends up winning the quote unquote, the power struggle. Although it wasn't
14:20a massive power struggle, just sort of a differing of opinions there. And Amy
14:24Strunk wanted to go, the owner wanted to go with Carthon because he was embracing this whole
14:28collaborative thing. I don't know that the Jets need a collaborative
14:32thing. I think the Jets need someone who is in control
14:36period, end of story. And the Adam Gases and the Robert
14:40Salas with their backgrounds
14:44are the hot young assistant coach or whatever. No, I think they need someone who's been there
14:48done that and is about to do it again. And you have that resume already
14:52and for all that happened poorly in Tennessee
14:56at the end, Mike had the ton of respect
15:00from the players in the locker room. They played hard for him right until the very end because they saw
15:04a number of times where we don't have it.
15:08We're not the better team. We got guys on the injury report. We know our roster's not that great.
15:12And somehow, some way, you're beating Kansas City or you're
15:16taking Kansas City into overtime. There's all these examples the last couple of years
15:20where that team had no business being in games and by
15:24excellent coaching, putting guys in positions where they could be successful and limiting
15:28their weaknesses, that they were able to stay in those games or win those games.
15:32And to me, that's sort of
15:36the Jets lose games all the time that they shouldn't lose.
15:40Somehow, some way, they need to reverse that. And I feel like he would
15:44be an ideal candidate from the building perspective
15:48and from the culture perspective and just from the
15:52he's a hard ass. Even though, as I said, the players love them,
15:56there were rules in place. You had to take care of your business.
16:00My question for him is, A,
16:04if Rodgers is back, does he want that? Does he want his first year to be Rodgers'
16:08likely his last year and on all that goes with being
16:12Aaron's coach and having to sort of, in some ways, turn the offense over to him?
16:16And then, the Middie aspect of it. And not that
16:20Mike is bad at Middie. He's actually, he can be really, he can be excellent,
16:24but he's also feisty. He's combative. And I've said in many
16:28a press conference where he just got disgusted by the question,
16:32would cut pressure short or just destroy
16:36the question. To his credit,
16:40sometimes in the same press conference or sometimes the very next or generally
16:44the very next day, that same person could ask a question and he would answer it.
16:48And sometimes he would even say, hey, I was in a bad way yesterday.
16:52Lost a game. Couldn't get it out of my head.
16:56Was just angry. I don't know if that flies in New York.
17:00Just the amount of attention. I mean, we're talking to Tennessee.
17:04They are the only thing in town, really, for all intents and purposes.
17:08And yet, the media contingent's not huge.
17:12It's massive in New York. Everything he does gets magnified.
17:16The one thing, I'm going to move on, obviously, here. The one thing I would say is
17:20I almost think the Jets need that because so much
17:24of, if you look at the New York landscape right now, pretty much every team
17:28sports team outside of the Jets and Giants is quite good right now.
17:32Robert Sala was great with the media.
17:36Very, very cozy, very cozy with the media.
17:40I don't guess whether he let you know it or not. Very, very cozy
17:44and cushy with the media. I look at Tom Thibodeau
17:48who's kind of rebel-ish in a lot of ways of really overachieving
17:52some of their parts. Maybe it's not a great example, but
17:56Tibbs came in and was like, enough. I don't care about the media.
18:00I don't care about anything else. I care about, we are going to play 82 games
18:04as hard as possible and whatever happens, happens. And yeah, not
18:08everyone's a huge fan of Tibbs' style and all these different things, but
18:12he's a horrible person for their New York culture, right? He's like a
18:16six-foot, 260-pound fat dude walking on the sidelines and yelling at people
18:20and calling them a mother effer every two seconds. I almost maybe think
18:24the Jets need that. That's the whole Pete Carroll thing. Do they bring in a guy
18:28who's in his 70s but still obviously wants to be around ball?
18:32Can he come in and be like, hey, we're going to invest in analytics? The Jets have four people in their analytics department,
18:36two of whom are not even full-time. They're interns.
18:40Someone tweeted out yesterday, the Jets have 40-plus people in social media
18:44and ticketing, and they have 14 people in their scouting department
18:48or whatever it was. It was like, how is that even possible?
18:52The one thing I wanted to touch on last time in this game,
18:56Drake May looked really good. It was very small sample size.
19:00He did a lot of things yesterday that you just have not seen Patriots quarterbacks
19:04do, and I don't know how severe the concussion is or not, but I think
19:08if you're a Patriots fan, you should feel...
19:12It's been three games, two-and-a-half, two-and-a-quarter. I think they have a franchise quarterback.
19:16I'd feel much better if I was a Patriots fan this morning than if I was a Dolphins fan.
19:20I just would. I'm 100% with you on the way
19:24Drake played. I'm not going to go franchise quarterback
19:28yet. I mean, look. He's showing all the signs.
19:32Yes, he's showing all the signs. The throw he made to Tyquan Thornton
19:36had the pocket 30 yards down the field.
19:40Oh, the contact came a little bit early. It did. The defensive back got there a split
19:44second early. The ball still hits you in the freaking chest.
19:48That's a dime. That's a beautiful throw.
19:52His instincts... And look, the instincts end up
19:56in part getting him the injury because he takes off and runs for 18 yards,
20:00slid late. People are debating whether it was a dirty hit.
20:04I don't think the intention was to be dirty. It should have been flagged, obviously, because it's helmet-to-helmet.
20:08But whatever. I don't think it was a dirty play.
20:12But the scramble for the 17-yard touchdown, same thing. He just saw it open up. You're going to play man
20:16against me? You're going to turn your back on me? He's fast, man. He's not a slow player.
20:20No, no. He is
20:24a really good athlete, and you're seeing that. I'll give them credit, though,
20:28the Patriots in general. Clearly, this game was a lot
20:32about the Jets, too, and we just detailed that for the last 17-18 minutes.
20:36But the coach called them soft, tried to walk it back. They had
20:40all kinds of noise with the receivers this past week. Receivers generally played like crap
20:44yesterday. I think five drops. Just an absolute
20:48mess. But they didn't turtle
20:52with Brissett. The crowd was uneasy. They ran five of the first six times. Brissett
20:56was in there on the first two series, kind of like resetting the process.
21:00The second half was a disaster, by the way. I'll just be honest.
21:04The punt return to spark things in the third quarter, give you the short field,
21:08get the touchdown. Then all of a sudden, there was energy back in the building again.
21:12They're like, hey, we could beat the Jets. Not just for the players, I think, but for the
21:16fan base. The fan base hates the Jets.
21:20There really was a good bit of life in the stadium yesterday
21:24for the first time in a long time. I actually thought there was more life in the stadium for this game than there was
21:28for the Braves' debut against the Texans.
21:32Credit to them for not turtling. I think they answered
21:36not definitively about the soft thing, because
21:40they still couldn't run the football. There's all this talk afterwards about how body blows, body blows.
21:44Dude, get out of here. 25 carries for 54 yards from your running backs.
21:48Let's relax. That's an impotent offense.
21:52As someone pointed out today, if you take away the quarterback scrambles, and Jacobi
21:56had a big one as well on the game-winning drive,
22:0018-yard scramble for May, 17-yard scramble for the touchdown. Bursette had a 14-yard scramble.
22:04You had 190 yards of total offense.
22:08Not knocking it. You showed toughness.
22:12You played hard. You needed a win. We talked about it last week.
22:16If you won 3-2, it didn't matter. You just needed a win to change the vibe.
22:20They changed the vibe. They feel good about themselves, but they're still a long way from being a good football team.
22:24They've got to stack this now. They've got an opportunity. Tennessee this weekend.
22:28Tennessee is an abject disaster right now.
22:32I had to fire Mike Rabel, though.
22:36Rabel is probably smoking a cigar somewhere, laughing a little bit.
22:40Again, you chose Ran over me. Brian Callahan can't get that team to respond at all.
22:44Brian Callahan is a strong candidate to be a one-and-done,
22:48whether that's fair or not. That's just the way they're trending.
22:52Lastly, I'll just say about the Pats.
22:56A bit of an old-school approach. I mentioned how they
23:00dealt with Rodgers. Going back and looking at the tape from years ago,
23:04playing him. He'll want to seek this matchup out all the time.
23:08He'll pass up open guys underneath because he just doesn't want to do it.
23:12He's decided that's the best place to go.
23:16There was some physicality that had been lacking. It didn't produce much results
23:20in terms of the run game, but they did a better job of stopping the run.
23:24Still wasn't awesome. Again, still gave up 120 yards rushing,
23:28but they didn't get run through as they'd been the last five or six weeks.
23:32They needed it. They got it.
23:36We're going to move on because we spent a lot of time on that game. Let's get to Eagles-Bengals.
23:40Bengals needed this one, I thought.
23:44Kind of badly. Had turned the season around after the 0-4 start, won three in a row.
23:48They get absolutely smacked by the Eagles.
23:5237-17. Eagles score in their last six drives.
23:56They score 34 total points. I had three straight possessions
24:00where they went for touchdowns. First time this season that they've done that.
24:04It was offensively the combination of, obviously,
24:08the big play, which is what they hunt on offense all the time.
24:12You've got the Devontae for 45 yards. They're always looking for those one-on-one matchups.
24:16Power with Hertz in the run game and power with Saquon,
24:20who's playing about as well as anybody in the league right now, isn't he?
24:24Yeah, a couple things. We talked about the Jets and trading pieces.
24:28If I'm the Bengals, it's time.
24:32Is there a chance the Jets and Bengals could be who we thought they were preseason and get hot?
24:36Yeah, there is. If either team loses this week, it's done, in my opinion.
24:40The Bengals maybe have an extra week, maybe, because they already had their bye.
24:44They're so much better than the AFC East is. I don't see it.
24:48I'd trade T. Higgins as soon as he's healthy.
24:52He's not coming back. There's absolutely no reason to run this thing into the ground.
24:56Take some of that money that'll go off your cap, roll it over to next year,
25:00and Paige Marchese. It's simple things.
25:04They need him, but he's not going to be.
25:08The Jets need D.J. Reed. He's not going to be there next year.
25:12Get out of your room. Read where your franchise is at. Now they're paying Burrow.
25:16They're going to have to go a little cheaper at some options, a little younger.
25:20Develop the Yoshi Vashis of the world and these guys. Maybe you go smaller there.
25:24They've invested so much money in that offensive line.
25:28I don't know what they do on defense in terms of...
25:32Logan Wilson and Trey Anderson both make a lot of money. Those guys are team leaders there. They're their best players on defense.
25:36They couldn't sniff Jalen Hurts yesterday.
25:40I'm just saying, do you just try to totally reset this thing and say,
25:44somewhat of what the Bills did going into this year and say,
25:48let's reset this thing. Hopefully Joe's healthy
25:52and play the way Josh is. Let's just build this roster.
25:56Just totally rebuild this roster on the fly. That's what I'd do
26:00if I was Cincinnati.
26:04Zach Taylor thing will be interesting to see. Him and Burrow were obviously
26:08kind of done this thing hand-in-hand, but Zach Taylor's record outside of
26:12it's not the most pleasant thing to look at.
26:16If you were Philly, we talked about this on Thursday's show and I'll keep it shorter with
26:20Philly. The defense is playing finely, generally, except for
26:24Fangio. I mean, Nolan Smith and Jamar Chase.
26:28Vic, what are we doing, buddy?
26:32It's one of the three best receivers in football getting...whatever.
26:36It's just insane, but generally speaking, Philly's doing a lot
26:40and they have an identity again. When these guys are all healthy, Jalen still
26:44would scare me in a bigger game just because I don't think he's still great, but
26:48Saquon's awesome. Demonte Smith is awesome. H.J. Brown is
26:52awesome. This offensive line will get healthier and is still really good.
26:56The Eagles are good. They've been good. I don't think anyone thought
27:00they would be bad. I think there were some questions around coaching, hurts, etc. Those haven't gone away,
27:04but this is now a couple weeks back-to-back of beating some crappy teams.
27:08This was like, oh, yep, I know you beat the Browns and Giants handily. Well, not
27:12really the Browns, but now it's like you just went into Cincinnati and smoked a desperate team.
27:16So yeah, if I'm Cincinnati, I'm getting
27:20that T. Higgins off the injury report as quickly as possible. Because look,
27:24at the end of the day, if you're the Bengals and someone's team gets desperate,
27:28does he go for a two because he's a rental that's younger and maybe you have a chance to
27:32re-sign him? I don't know. If you're the commanders, aren't you trading
27:36a two for T. Higgins and saying, let's go win this division and maybe we'll re-sign him with money?
27:40Something like that. You have the money to do it, as opposed to
27:44in the offseason, I got it. Now, as much as I know they'd
27:48miss him, if you told me there's a 50-plus
27:52percent chance he's there next year, it's a different conversation. It feels like
27:5610 percent chance. He's going to get $25 million a year.
28:00Again, if you're Washington, which we'll touch on at the end here,
28:04you're 6-2 right now and the division cowboys look bad
28:08and the Giants are bad. Why can't you go and
28:12say, hey Jaden, you're going to get T. Higgins for the rest of the year
28:16and Scary Terry and the way you're playing football.
28:20We could go win 11 games and be last year's Houston and then next year we have a much better
28:24chance. I don't know. That's just my take. I know I didn't talk
28:28much about the game, but those are just some bigger point things where the Eagles have an identity
28:32and the Bengals are very much where the Jets are.
28:36We might need to start just selling off and rebuilding this thing a little bit
28:40on the fly. Bengals are 3-1 against teams who are
28:44under .500. Of course, the one loss being
28:48they would love to take it back, lost the Patriots in the opener.
28:52Then 0-4 against teams who are winning records.
28:56One quarterback hit, no sacks yesterday.
29:00There's a lot wrong with that roster. To your point about Vic Fangio and the defense,
29:04they have an identity and Cooper Dejean
29:08is making an impact. Ian Quinion Mitchell,
29:12dude, that draft. We could look back at that draft a few years from now
29:16and go, whew, they remade their whole defense right there.
29:20Young, athletic players. It's making a difference for sure.
29:24The Eagles to win a second in a row, getting a little bit of momentum.
29:28Let's hear from one of our sponsors, PrizePix. It's the best place to get real money

30:12We'll review some of our... Mike, one thing
30:16we're not going to realistically touch on, but I just felt like I had to talk about
30:20for 30 seconds. Anthony Richardson
30:24saying he was fired.
30:28This was something yesterday that
30:32I've never heard. I talked to players around the league yesterday that
30:36all were like, there's absolutely no way he said that out loud. They're like, what?
30:40I cannot believe they just saw that. Like Shane's thinking a lot.
30:44This is a challenge.
30:48It might be flack of time, which is
30:52again, it's insane.
30:56I'm reading some of the tweets from the Colts beat writers and they're just talking
31:00about how Shane's hard to read. But he did say, Anthony's our starting
31:04quarterback right now. Interesting.
31:08We heard a lot of right nows in New England as Jacoby Brissett was the quarterback
31:12for the first five weeks. Jacoby's the quarterback right now.
31:16I think he's on the clock a little bit because they've been in every game.
31:20I think every game has been decided by six points or less for the Colts
31:24this year. Would they have an extra win or two if Flacco
31:28was playing quarterback for them? Which is insane to say, by the way.
31:32That's the power of Joe Flacco, baby.
31:36Let's go to the next one. Browns upset the Ravens 29-24.
31:40Ravens five-game win streak is over. They fall to five
31:44in three. Look, there's the whole
31:48Jameis Winston, Deshaun Watson aspect of this game. I don't really
31:52care about the Browns. The Ravens
31:56were playing outstanding football offensively. They're one of the best, if not the best
32:00offense in the league. Had a few issues yesterday.
32:04But to me, this continues to be about their defense, which every time you
32:08think might be getting a foothold, they don't. They got torn up
32:12yesterday. Zach Orr, again, the first-year defensive coordinator,
32:16young guy replacing Mike McDonald, brought in Dean Pease a couple weeks ago, the
32:20longtime defensive coordinator at history with the Ravens and a whole bunch of other places
32:24because they were just looking for another set of eyes. Nothing helped.
32:28It's not helping. Jameis goes for over 300 yards. Their secondary
32:32is struggling. And they had injuries. Now Wiggins, Humphrey,
32:36Marcus Williams, dressed but did not
32:40play. Seems to be some sort of discipline thing going on there.
32:44Harbaugh said afterwards, he's still going to
32:48play good football for us, but something's happening there. So their secondary
32:52is a disaster. And it showed against
32:56Cleveland, but it's been showing all year long. They're one of the worst
33:00past defense teams in the league. And I don't know.
33:04Yes, Humphrey back when he's healthy. That makes a difference.
33:08But guess what? Hasn't been healthy a ton the last couple years. Wiggins
33:12has had a hard time staying on the field here in his rookie season. So they're a team that
33:16definitely can win, in my opinion. But they've got to figure out a way to fix that
33:20defense. And I wonder if they don't start looking at the trademark and saying to themselves
33:24whether it's more bodies in the secondary,
33:28whether it's another pass rusher, whether it's both.
33:32They feel like they need to do something because
33:36they could piss away a season that, quite frankly, I think from an offensive standpoint
33:40they shouldn't let get pissed away.
33:44If the Browns fire Kevin Stefanski at the end of this year, it'll be one of the
33:48stupidest moves in the NFL. And if I was a Jets fan, if I was a Giants fan,
33:52if I was a Patriots fan,
33:56I'd be sprinting to hire Kevin Stefanski.
34:00Without Deshaun Watson, he just wins coaches of the year.
34:04Just look at it. Every year when he does not have
34:08Deshaun Watson on his roster or even playing,
34:12Jacoby Bursette, when he won 7-8 games that year with Bursette, he won
34:16I believe 10 or 11 with Cleveland. With Baker, when coach of the year then,
34:20they should have beaten Kansas City in that playoff game. Baker can make an out-route throw.
34:24Last year, they rattled off
34:28eight in a row with Flacco and collapsed in the playoffs.
34:32Last week, even yesterday, the second Deshaun goes out,
34:36all of a sudden, the playbook works again.
34:40I don't know what they're going to do in Cleveland because it feels like they're at a
34:44crossroads here where at some point the owner is going to have to
34:48OK them moving on from him, whether it's a trade or cutting him or whatever it is and just owning that
34:52dead cap. Andrew Barry
34:56feels safe, even though I think it might be the opposite. But what do you do with
35:00it? There was the weird trade rumors again.
35:04They already traded Cooper. There's other pieces on that team. You maybe want to restart it.
35:08Stefanski's a damn good football coach. If you told me the
35:12Browns rattled off three or four in a row here because this is what happens, I wouldn't be shocked.
35:16It's not because Javis is good or anything like that. Stefanski's
35:20back in the game. It's a good program in place. There's no question about it.
35:24The Baltimore thing, we've talked for a while. The defense
35:28hasn't figured it out. I don't know that they're going to.
35:32We're in November football now.
35:36They kind of get torched. They're not even a good
35:40defense, to be honest with you. I don't know if it's going out and saying, hey, we'll
35:44bring Genevieve Clowney back, who's basically just sitting there and cashing a check
35:48living at home in Carolina. Or they call the Jets and say, hey,
35:52DJ Reed and Hasan Reddick for a two and a four, and we'll take on the salaries of these
35:56guys. I don't know. Whoever
36:00it might be, they're not good enough up front, and they're not good enough
36:04on the back end. Roe Clown can run around like a chicken
36:08with his head cut off and trying to hit everybody, and that's great, him and Kyle Hamilton.
36:12They're not beating Kansas City if their defense does not
36:16improve. The last thing I'll say in this game, and I know maybe it's just a Twitter thing,
36:20the Lamar doesn't have any help thing
36:24kind of seems to come up every time they lose a football game. He
36:28has plenty of help. Lamar is amazing. He's a two-time MVP.
36:32I don't care what he does in the regular season. He's reached that point of his career where him and
36:36Josh Allen, it's like you've got to beat the Chiefs.
36:40That's great, but he has plenty of help.
36:44I don't know why that narrative got thrown around yesterday.
36:48It seems to happen every time they lose a game. It's like, oh, we've got to get Lamar our number one receiver.
36:52Dude, their offense is more than good enough.
36:56We're lax. It's maybe just probably a blip
37:00for them, but Raven,
37:04that defense has got to get figured out a little bit. If you're a Browns fan,
37:08it's probably best to suck the rest of the year and keep your coach and rebuild this
37:12thing, but again, I wouldn't be shocked if they just get hot here randomly
37:16for a couple weeks. Yeah, and the problem with them is
37:20sucking is the haslam. The owner is such a lunatic that he'll fire
37:24everybody. They'll both get jobs in three seconds because they're that good.
37:28Cover zero on the game-winning touchdown to Cedric Tillman
37:32where it isolated Eddie Jackson, who's about 146 years old.
37:36Still in the league for a second.
37:40He got burned twice yesterday. He was a really good player.
37:44Unfortunately, it's not 2014 anymore. Yeah, it's a different time
37:48at a different place. Let's go to Falcons beating the Bucks
37:5231-26. Falcons improve to 4-0 in the division, 5-3
37:56overall. Bucks fall to 4-4. Falcons are kind of who we thought they
38:00were, right? That first game, the way Kirk looked, and you're like, oh boy.
38:04He's still not totally trusting the Achilles, although he did take off
38:08for a pretty important scramble in yesterday's game,
38:12but 23-29, 276, four touchdowns, two long
38:16touchdowns to Kyle Pitts. Mooney with a long touchdown. He's unlocking
38:20the pieces that for the last couple years couldn't be unlocked,
38:24specifically Pitts, who's been the top five pick
38:28in basically Wasteland for two years.
38:32It's all happening for them offensively. Defensively, that's still not a
38:36good football team. Feels like they're praying for
38:40a mistake. They got a mistake yesterday. It was actually not
38:44from the Bucks offense, but from the Bucks special teams. 24-17, Bucks decide
38:48to, what did they do there?
38:52Fourth down. Turn it over. Short
38:56field. Boom. It's 31-17, and then the Bucks are in catch-up mode, and they're in catch-up
39:00mode without Godwin and Mike Evans, who are out for the game,
39:04and still Baker through for 3-30. 37-50 for 3-30.
39:08The Bucks move the football. Falcons are going to be a team
39:12much like the Ravens at this point when they're going to win games, probably because they're going to have
39:16to score in the high 20s to 30s to get it done, but in that division,
39:20we said that was a craptastic division, and it wouldn't be surprising if 8-8 won the division.
39:248-9, 9-8 won the division. 8-8 no longer
39:28a thing with the 17-game schedule, and that's sort of how it's playing out.
39:32Yeah, a couple things. Kirk's kind of having, he's having
39:36a good year. He's turned the ball over a little bit more,
39:40maybe a little bit more than he had in the past couple years, a little bit more like maybe
39:44the 2022 Kirk, higher completion percentage this year
39:48than he had that year, but that year he was .22, if people remember, 4,500 yards,
39:5229 touchdowns, 14 picks. Right now, he's roughly on pace for about
39:5629 touchdowns, 14 picks, higher completion percentage, but similar yardage.
40:00That team went 13-4, 13-3, and then lost at home.
40:04My one issue with the Falcons is I still feel like they're a
40:08roster that is not fully, fully
40:12just haven't consistently strung it together for
40:16a month in a row yet, and I'm not saying, because they've only played eight games.
40:20To your point, though, look at what they had to do in the offseason,
40:24or right before the season started. You trade for Judon,
40:28you sign Simmons. They realized. They looked at their roster and were like,
40:32all right, well, we don't have to give up too much for Judon. We can do that because we need to pass Rusher
40:36early. We're still not sure about our back end, even though we had Bates.
40:40Let's go to the second power with that thing and bring Simmons back there because they're looking
40:44around going, we don't have enough difference makers, especially on the defensive side of the ball,
40:48and guess what? Judon and Simmons haven't been difference makers for them so far.
40:52Yeah, so my thing with the Falcons is
40:56how aggressive is Arthur Blank going to get here? I know we talked a lot about trade
41:00deadlines and trade targets and stuff.
41:04Do they go? I don't even know what they would go after at this point.
41:08They kind of are a team that could use anybody but doesn't necessarily need
41:12anybody. I don't know. They're just another team that I look at.
41:16I'm like, Arthur Blank's not getting any younger. He just inducted himself in his own Hall of Fame, which is
41:20pretty sweet, actually. What do you think about it?
41:24It's pretty awesome. It's awesome. You know what? That's how many F's I give. I'm putting myself
41:28in the Hall of Fame. But he went out and was like, we're paying Kirk. I don't really care. That's why it was
41:32always like, oh, that's the Belichick team because it made all the sense in the world.
41:36Obviously, so on and so forth. We know the whole deal there. The Falcons are a good team.
41:40I still think Detroit run them off the field
41:44in a 60-minute playoff game. It's a good time to be a Falcons
41:48fan for those who are. The Bucks are so frustrating because
41:52I don't think we expected both these guys to be hurt when Godwin and Evans
41:56right now. Me and you talked so much about how this is an 8-9 win team because
42:00week to week, there's some awesome veterans and they still got it.
42:04Even the Levantes of the world and
42:08Vitavia and all those guys, they still got it. But there's still
42:12holes there. I still think Bowles is a good coach, not a great coach by any means.
42:16I still think he makes some interesting, very dumb decisions at times.
42:20And Baker is very reckless with the football. But
42:24all that said to me at the same time, the season's not over for them.
42:28If you look at the remaining
42:32what the Bucks have going on the next couple weeks,
42:36you got the Chiefs on Monday night and then the Niners
42:40before they have the Giants and Panthers.
42:44They might be 4-6 before you look and then yeah, they can
42:48dig themselves out of it. Giants, Panthers, Raiders, then the Chargers, Cowboys,
42:52Panthers, Saints. Again, you can convince me they could then roll six in a row
42:56and get Evans back and they'll fly. But man, these two against the
43:00Falcons are going to come back to bite them right now. You're down a game and a half to them.
43:04And Atlanta's got Carolina again too.
43:08You know what I mean? I think the Bucks' best shot is to get in as a wild card
43:12but they're going to have to probably rattle off five to six, six out of six
43:16to do it. And again, the schedule dictates they can.
43:20But as we've talked about, the Jets and the Bengals and other teams
43:24between injuries and other things, relying on rattling off five out of six
43:28is just not usually the best for business.
43:32Yeah, I mean, being down those two receivers is, you know, again,
43:36he threw for 330 but those guys are difference makers.
43:40Now he's thrown to Kate Otten 12 times.
43:44And Kate Otten's a perfectly fine player but that's not
43:48going to, that's not scaring anybody. And yet they still had a Hail Mary
43:52at the end of the game with a chance to win.
43:56Which is crazy. Bill Seahawks 31-10. Bill's romped.
44:00They're 6-2. They have as many wins now as the rest of the AFC East
44:04combined. Rainy, nasty day in Seattle.
44:08I thought this was an interesting test for the Bills just
44:12to make that trip. Face a Mike McDonald defense. Josh hasn't seen it very much.
44:16Josh was really good again yesterday.
44:20A few yards, a couple touchdowns.
44:24Cooper wasn't very involved yesterday. Played more, just didn't,
44:28there wasn't much of a connection there. In fact, the one interception came when Cooper slipped
44:32on a route and led to the interception. But Keion Coleman
44:36elevating. Actually getting dapped up by Tariq Woolen
44:40who skied over to get the touchdown. Almost like Woolen saying, dude, nobody does that to me
44:44at 6'4". But you just did. Nice play.
44:48Getting him involved a little bit more. The Khalil Shakir thing continues to be
44:52that's become Josh's whoopee a little bit.
44:56I think Ryan Fitzpatrick tweeted out last night
45:00targeted him 82 times over the last season and a half. 75
45:04completions. He knows where he's going to be. Trust him.
45:08Shakir makes plays. The other thing about this game to me
45:12physically, how they can run the football now and protect
45:16the quarterback. Their offensive line is one of the best offensive lines in football. Dawkins and Brown
45:20at the tackles. I love Osiris Torrance.
45:24In fact, he was one of my draft guys a couple years ago.
45:28He's been great for them. David Edwards at guard as well.
45:32Connor McGovern at center. They played very well as a unit.
45:36Cook rushes for over 100 yards. Looks explosive. Had all day to sort of pick his spots and go.
45:40They're back.
45:44I think it was a good win.
45:48A little litmus test for them offensively.
45:52McDonald doesn't have all his pieces in place yet, but they've been playing better.
45:56They've gotten some of their front defensive line guys back. Murphy in particular.
46:00It didn't matter.
46:04You encapsulated a lot of what I wanted to hit on in a good way.
46:08The division is over.
46:12They're not coming out of them.
46:16At least not to catch Buffalo.
46:20The Patriots are not winning the rest of the next nine games.
46:24To me, the two things to Seattle that are a little concerning
46:28are San Francisco has not figured it out yet.
46:32I don't know if they will, but you lost.
46:36It felt like a home game. East Coast team traveling cross country.
46:40They don't have to have. You get steamrolled.
46:44Not great.
46:48Not to lose in that fashion. Buffalo is very good. I don't think they should be beating anybody.
46:52Let alone a team that's supposed to be a contender in the NFC
46:56on their own field by almost 30 points.
47:00They didn't run the ball at all.
47:04Buffalo is not great against the run. They're very light
47:08through the middle of the defense.
47:12Throwing the ball 50 times doesn't do you any good.
47:16Five carries, 16 yards for Gino.
47:20That's awful.
47:24Great Buffalo win.
47:28The division is over.
47:32Josh has put himself. His numbers are amazing.
47:36He's going to be in the MVP conversation because that's how good of a player he is.
47:40This was a little bit of a disappointing one.
47:44I was expecting a fun game and we got a steamrolling.
47:48We didn't realize we were going to, but that's what we got.
47:52It was a beatdown.
47:56Speaking of beatdowns, I don't know if you've been following the World Series, Will.
48:00You sure about that?
48:04Game three, fourth coming back in New York.
48:08If you're looking for tickets, I got the place for you.
48:12Game time, they'll get it done. Game time picks filters out the fluff to show you only
48:16incredible deals on great seats so you don't have to waste time searching through thousands of tickets.
48:20Obviously, it's a hard ticket to get.
48:24It's an expensive ticket.
48:28I might try to go tonight. We'll see.
48:32I might have to use game time.
48:36Absolutely. It's the place to go. Download the game time app.
48:40Create an account. Use code CLNS for $20 off your first purchase.
48:44Terms apply again. Create that account. Redeem the code CLNS for $20 off.
48:48What time is it? It's game time. Download that sucker.
48:52We're going to end the pod on the play that everybody's talking about
48:56for a lot of different reasons.
49:00After scrambling around for, what was it, 12, 13 seconds,
49:04Noah Brown on the receiving end,
49:08they dominated the game and yet were behind but end up winning the game,
49:12stealing it from the Chicago Bears.
49:16Will, just incredible. I'm jumping around my living room. I couldn't believe it.
49:20Phenomenal play. Then the social media videos start to come out.
49:24You're wondering what Stevenson is doing.
49:28I'll turn that over to you. He was the defensive back
49:32for Chicago. Is that a rough 24 hours?
49:36He was telling people to go have a nice rest of their afternoon down in the D.C. area.
49:40This was a really fun game. It wasn't necessarily a game I think we were all expecting
49:44in terms of lower scoring. I thought both quarterbacks did a lot of really nice things.
49:48I know the numbers aren't going to bear it out. They were special by any means.
49:52Caleb, to me, he's not fully hit full stride,
49:56but he's pretty damn good.
50:00If you just box score, look at him, every week, I'm not sure you're going to see quite as much.
50:04He was good yesterday. He made a lot of winning
50:08plays in the fourth quarter. A lot of winning plays in the fourth quarter.
50:12Jaden is special, obviously. This is a big win for them.
50:16These two teams are probably, if they don't win the division,
50:20we're fighting for that 5, 6, 7 seed. Washington having the tiebreaker is huge.
50:24Washington keeping pace now. Still leading that division. Dallas
50:28is struggling. That play was special. Jaden didn't get it out there
50:32far enough, but it almost worked out, obviously, in the end.
50:36Devin McCourty talked a lot about this on Sunday Night Football last night.
50:40The way these teams can never figure out the Hail Mary.
50:44We saw Rodgers do it earlier in the year against Buffalo.
50:48Buffalo is horrible at defending it too. Bat the ball down
50:52and get your biggest and tallest players on the field.
50:56It's every year we see something.
51:00It's usually the end of half and stuff, but you can never figure it out.
51:04That's why, no matter what anyone says, I know the percentages are low.
51:08The game is never over. Even the Jets-Patriots game yesterday. Garrett, you thought
51:12caught that ball. They're going to spike it. Rodgers is going to throw another Hail Mary.
51:16You would have liked your chances. That's just so special from Jaden
51:20to buy the time he did. Good for the Commanders. That building was the most
51:24alive I've seen it in at least 10 years since RG3's rookie year.
51:28It feels like they're getting
51:32the football gods are smiling upon them.
51:36Daniel Snyder is no longer the owner. They get the
51:40quarterback who, through the first eight weeks, has given that franchise
51:44an incredible amount of juice. The maturity with which he's
51:48played has been awesome. Literally, for most of the week, no one
51:52thought he was going to play. The rib injury, it seemed like it was,
51:56we'll play smart. He just, 4.30 in the morning, getting there,
52:00getting his treatment, and has a good day yesterday. Obviously, the big play
52:04at the end. Chicago,
52:08I'm sure anybody who's listening to this pod or
52:12watching this pod has seen the video of Stevenson gesturing to the crowd.
52:16Matt Eberfloos, we're taping this on Monday afternoon,
52:20late Monday morning or early Monday afternoon. He had his press conference and he's like,
52:24Stevenson was supposed to be the guy checking Noah Brown
52:28at the end of the play. Just from bad to worse for Stevenson.
52:32To his credit, he has at least come out and said, I'm going to get better from this. That was a
52:36mistake. Shameful. I apologize to my teammates.
52:40I think McCourty brought it up on Sunday Night Football
52:44about now the veterans got to go put their arm around him and get him back.
52:48He starts for them. He's an important guy for them. You got to make sure this thing doesn't spiral for him
52:52because you still got plenty in front of you. You're four and three.
52:56There's a playoff berth that could be there if you can find your footing quickly
53:00and continue to improve at the rate that they've improved.
53:04I just thought that poor kid, he brought it on himself, but that's one
53:08hell of a week for him to have. The other part about that video,
53:12just go back and you can find different things that are happening in the video.
53:16There's a blatant hold. He gets something new every time.
53:20There's a blatant hold. I shouldn't say the refs
53:24would call it a hundred times out of a hundred because the officiating in this league
53:28has been wretched. I don't even like to talk about officiating, but it's been that
53:32kind of year so far where I felt like I've had to bring it up a few times.
53:36There's a hold, but when Brown catches the ball and they have
53:40the shot of it with him coming into him, there's two
53:44dudes behind him that literally one dude tackles the
53:48other dude. There's security work, whatever they are. I don't even know who they are.
53:52There's staffers, security people, the net guys. I don't know what they were,
53:56but one guy literally just smokes the other guy, just completely tackles him.
54:00Then there's the video of it afterwards where one coach runs up to try to
54:04chest bump one of the offensive linemen. That guy sends him flying.
54:08I love football. Some of these moments were pretty cool to see in the aftermath
54:12of it. Yeah, it was awesome. It was an awesome Sunday.
54:16We are
54:20in a legit, start looking at the playoff picture here, play soon.
54:24Yeah, absolutely. All right, that's going to put a wrap on this edition of the All 32.
54:28Here's Will Parkinson. I'm Mike Ciardi. We'll see you again later in the week
54:32as we preview the Week 9 slate.
