00:00Okay, back at it, Pat's Dolphins.
00:15We get a great preview episode here for you today, not just because it's going to be me
00:19speaking to myself, which you know we do every Monday, recapping games, but A, the Patriots
00:23have a really good shot to win.
00:25I think Vegas agrees, kind of.
00:28Patriots right now are one and a half point favorites.
00:30But secondarily to that, we got Devin McCourty.
00:33Love having him on the show.
00:34Talking X's and O's.
00:35Stayed in the locker room.
00:36This guy was very close to Mayo, obviously played with him.
00:39He's doing NBC Sunday Night Football, but we really get into both sides of the ball
00:43and also what you just want to see from this team moving forward.
00:46Because if it's not going to be consistent winning, and they've obviously lost three
00:49games in a row, you need to see progress.
00:51You need to see young players.
00:53And Devin, as you've heard him before here, isn't always going to be the company man.
00:58He's going to tell you what he thinks.
00:59In fact, a year ago, after the Patriots lost this next game, meaning week five, supposedly
01:05beatable opponent at home, that was 34 to nothing to the Saints.
01:10I think 34 to nothing, by the way, is coming against the Dolphins, who are the only team
01:13scoring fewer points than the Patriots right now.
01:15But he said after that game, I think their only option is to tank.
01:20So that's a guy, former captain, future Patriots Hall of Famer, telling you exactly what's
01:25on his mind.
01:26He does that a lot more here.
01:27Before we get to that, I want to let you know, unfortunately, September is over.
01:31So over at PrizePix, you don't get to pick up the Caleb Williams more than less than
01:36half a passing yard boom.
01:37But there is still plenty of money to win over at PrizePix, America's number one daily
01:41fantasy sports ad.
01:43And right now, you can win up to 100 times your money with as few as four correct picks.
01:47All you got to do is look at two to six player stat projections.
01:51I'll give you a couple of PrizePix picks here in a second, and you go more or less.
01:55That's all it is.
01:56More or less.
01:57And if you sign up today, you play five bucks, you get $50 in return.
02:01That's it.
02:02Win or lose.
02:03You don't even need to win to get the $50 bonus.
02:05PrizePix is the best way to win real money this football season.
02:09Which players are going off, who's going to score a touchdown, who's not.
02:13You can make your picks in less than 60 seconds and turn your sports opinions and your takes
02:16and even double up on your fantasy team and win real money this season.
02:20We did that last week.
02:21I told you right off the top, Brock Purdy, more than nine and a half rush yards versus
02:25the Pats defense.
02:26It couldn't set the edge.
02:27Boom.
02:28He had that in the first drive.
02:29Came up just shy.
02:30A reminder, Stevenson going over 68 and a half yards.
02:33But the week before, we were 2-0.
02:35So download the app today and use code CLNS and turn $5 into $50 instantly after you play
02:42that first $5 lineup, PrizePix, run your game.
02:46Okay, our PrizePix picks of the week right here.
02:49This is a layup, I think.
02:50As bad as Jacoby Brissett looked, as bad as the passing offense has been, more than half
02:55a touchdown.
02:56So he just needs one passing touchdown and you hit this.
02:59He had that last week against the 49ers, Austin Hooper in the flat.
03:03I think this gets done against one of the worst defenses in the league.
03:06The other one I'm going, less than Aaron Rodgers, 224 and a half passing yards.
03:11He's in London playing against the Vikings, Opel, Brian Flores is spitting that dial in
03:17a way.
03:18It's stopped since week one.
03:20So whether it's the sim pressures, the actual blitzes, a lot of quarters coverage, Brian
03:25Flores knows how to defend that offense.
03:27He's experienced against Aaron Rodgers, did a great job back last time Devin and Flo were
03:31together in 18 and they held those Packers to 17 points.
03:34Now granted, games in 2018 don't have a lot to do with what's going to happen Sunday,
03:38but I'm telling you, more than half a passing touchdown for Jacoby Brissett, less than 224
03:45and a half passing yards for Aaron Rodgers.
03:47There it is.
03:48Your prize picks, picks of the week now, Devin McCourty.
03:51All right.
03:52As promised future Patriots hall of famer and current Rutgers athletics hall of fame.
03:57Funny thing about the Rutgers hall of fame.
03:59You walk in and it echoes cause they don't have a good way to fill it.
04:04And now they have Devin McCourty in there and Jason McCourty, it's just, you just hear
04:08yourself all over the place as far as the building can go, but he's here to talk about
04:12Pat's dolphins.
04:13How does it feel though, to, to be honored?
04:15I know you were, it was the last Friday against Washington.
04:17Yeah, man, it was, it was cool being down there Thursday doing a speech and everything
04:22with my brother.
04:23But then being back in that environment, you know, I might be a little biased, but Rutgers
04:28has one of the best environments in college football.
04:30I've been, I've been all over.
04:33I've been all over the big bosses at NBC and I'm telling them, I don't know what you guys
04:37are waiting for, but you should be trying to get one of these Rutgers games on the Peacock
04:41schedule NBC.
04:43I've been trying to let them know Fox went there, then McAfee had talked about possibly
04:47game day.
04:48I tried to tell them, you know, in the off season, different times, I tried to prepare
04:52them for Rutgers is going to do this year.
04:55So no, but all jokes aside, unbelievable honor.
04:59And it was cool.
05:00I think talking trash to Steve, Stevie B, Steve Belichick as he was going into the tunnel
05:05at halftime.
05:06And then you know, coach Belichick, Bill was there again, a chance to catch up with him
05:10a little bit and just talking about our, our media lives and football in general.
05:15So overall, it was just an awesome two day span.
05:19So number one, I can't actually talk much crap to you because my freshman year at UConn,
05:24you had a pick six in front of me being somewhere up sober as can be, because I didn't get the
05:29point of drinking at football games.
05:31I was like, all of the fun is on the field.
05:32I don't, I don't understand why people around me are not watching.
05:36And then you had a pick six and Rutgers won UConn.
05:37So that kind of ended our little former biggest rivalry here.
05:40Number two, I am really curious what Bill said about media life.
05:44And I'm shocked he had a second from hanging out with Chris Long and on fantasy and McAfee
05:48and all the different stuff he's doing.
05:49Like he had a second to talk about it.
05:51What did he say?
05:52Yeah, no, we were, we were just, you know, hanging out and talking and I think he likes
05:58it so far.
05:59I think it's been good.
06:00For one, I love it for him because I think people get to see the other side that the
06:04players have always seen.
06:06But you could tell, like, he's busy doing different things and it's probably good.
06:10You go from coaching for that long, the last thing you want to do is just sit around.
06:14But for me, just talking to him, I've always been impressed and thought it was so cool
06:19of how much fun he has just being in Washington.
06:22Like as we're talking, the game's going on, Rutgers is on offense, so obviously Steve's
06:27coaching the defense.
06:28And we're talking, he's just like, he's just looking at, because he was so into, you know,
06:33what Washington was doing and Steve and he's obviously been around that program a little
06:37bit even, you know, going into the season and during the season.
06:40So that to me was always cool.
06:42I think the outside of football parts of just seeing how much he enjoys being around, you
06:48know, whether it was Steve or Brian, especially when it came to, you know, coaching and doing
06:51football.
06:52So it was, it was definitely a fun night and, you know, Steve's my guy, but, you know, Rutgers
06:58got the last laugh in the end, which was what it was all about.
07:01Yeah.
07:02Well, we know how many Scarlet Bozos, Scarlet Knights that Bill drafted at Rutgers.
07:07Can you, can you confirm if he was actually rooting for his son or his beloved Rutgers
07:10program?
07:11He was doing the right thing.
07:13He was rooting for his son, but I also told Steve and I told him like, let's make sure
07:18we have a Rutgers t-shirt under all of that purple and all of that, because we know where
07:22one's heart always lies, you know?
07:25So I'm sure they had some Rutgers gear somewhere, whether it was a t-shirt under, whether it
07:29was Rutgers underwear, I know the Rutgers gear was all.
07:32Yeah.
07:33All right.
07:34Yeah.
07:35Steve Belichick Rutgers alum.
07:36It's a, it was fun game.
07:37I actually watched that with Doug.
07:38We had just gotten into San Francisco.
07:39He's a UW guy and I'm like trying to figure out what the call is and I'm like, can I just
07:43like relax?
07:44Like this is a front, like it's stop, stop, stop doing this in a hotel room in San Francisco.
07:48Get outside.
07:49So I did.
07:50Last thing on this, cause it just occurred to me the next time you see Bill, I want you
07:53to pitch him on, Hey, you know, the 13 years of low lights in the crap that you shoveled
07:58into my lap, sitting front row in your meetings.
08:00We need to do some low lights of yours.
08:02Like you get the clicker, you're the media vet between the two of you and we need Bill
08:06any pause, any explanation that doesn't go anywhere, any non-comment.
08:10Like I, you can kind of give that back to him though.
08:14That will be pretty good.
08:15We pull up different plays, different calls that he made.
08:18You know where I would start.
08:19I'm starting with Miami miracle.
08:21So we get the breakdown of Miami miracle and the defense that we ran.
08:25That'd be our first, first play off the bat.
08:27So everyone watching would know we meant business.
08:31But good luck with that ever, ever happened.
08:34He has too many jobs to even think about doing that.
08:37Just guys too busy.
08:38Yeah.
08:39I mean, we, I didn't even think about bad calls that he made.
08:42I was just saying like first year in media, everyone's done well.
08:45I did love the shade that he was not subtle about throwing at the Falcons on that Monday
08:49night game on the man.
08:50Oh, here's the guy that they signed and contacted too early.
08:54Yeah.
08:55They got fined for that.
08:56Lost the draft pick and a second and seven anyway.
08:58That's what the squad meetings used to be.
09:00Throw a stray out there and then just simply act like you don't even realize what's going
09:05on and just smoothly say it and then move on to the next point about the football game
09:11as Mooney made a catch.
09:12Then he started talking about the catch.
09:14Like he didn't just say that it was awesome.
09:16Yeah.
09:17Oh, it's so good.
09:18And that's Bill.
09:19Like we talk about, Oh, he's not going to really have his personality.
09:21You just said it.
09:22Yeah.
09:23That's how he was in meetings.
09:24Yeah.
09:25That's him.
09:26Yep.
09:27Yeah.
09:28Okay.
09:29You brought up Miami and we're not going to talk about the Miami miracle.
09:30The first time that I was like, Oh wow, I'm about to rip Bill Belichick.
09:33Cause why was Gronk on the field for a game that should have ended in a win, but Miami
09:36is coming to Foxborough Sunday, one o'clock kick.
09:40Both teams are one in three.
09:41I have a column up today being like, I think the Patriots are already in a danger zone
09:45here and part of this is stuff outside of their control, right?
09:48Injuries, bad luck and depth and yada, yada, yada.
09:51But when I used to say this specifically last few years, some people within the team
09:54be like, Oh, media panic.
09:56This is all media panic.
09:57End of the world.
09:58You kind of gave me a little bit of that before we started.
10:00Scale one to 10, where are you on the panic meter with the pets?
10:04One.
10:05Again, I'm not in, I'm not, I don't live up there anymore, so I'm not, I'm not immersed
10:12in it daily, but like, didn't everybody go to the, to the, to the training camp practices?
10:20Didn't everybody see the joint practice against the Eagles?
10:22Didn't everybody go to the preseason games where most of the teams didn't play any starters
10:27and the Patriots never really dominated a game, even if they had won a good drive and
10:34a game and out of nowhere, you beat Cincinnati and everybody's like, Oh wow, maybe we were
10:41wrong.
10:42Maybe this team is really good.
10:43Maybe they do have a chance to finish first or second in a division.
10:47And I was just sitting there and I'm just like, no, it's a national football league.
10:53Everybody's figuring out what they're going to be in September.
10:56They're getting through things.
10:58It's so much going on, like patience, patience.
11:03They go and play the jets and I called the game on Westwood one and I'm not thinking
11:08anything about the quarterback.
11:10The next day they're like, should Drake may go in.
11:13I'm like, wait, you watched that game Thursday night and you thought Jacoby Brissett was
11:18the issue in that game.
11:19He got his head taken off over.
11:21I mean, Drake may checks into the game at the end and he almost gets killed.
11:25And then Aaron Rodgers and the offense marched up and down the field, dominated time of possession.
11:31They played the game exactly how the Patriots will.
11:34They won't win a game this year and they get dominated time of possession and three and
11:39outs and give up points on like they won't win a game.
11:43So for me, there's no panic because you'd like the expectations just wasn't that high.
11:50And I get it.
11:51And I'm speaking from my perspective inside that building.
11:54I was a player and I was a coach.
11:56You damn right.
11:57My expectations are high.
11:58I'm not putting in all of that work and expecting to lose, but you pull what they already had
12:04now and you lose.
12:05Like to me, the defense took a huge hit, losing big, like losing Juwan Bentley.
12:12He is in the mold of what we always had in New England.
12:16When I got there, it was Vince Wolfer.
12:18It was Gerard Mayo.
12:20Like they were the heartbeat of the defense, the checks, the understanding of how we needed
12:25to play.
12:26They just always understood how we need to compete as a defense.
12:29As those guys kind of moved on and what's name.
12:32It was myself.
12:33It was high tower.
12:34We were all we were doing that.
12:36Like we understood when one of us was out, the other one was there.
12:38Like you, you always had that.
12:40And then I've been excited about how Pep and Doug have really stepped up.
12:45Captain's doing well.
12:46Like the truth is like the way Bentley is like, he is the heart of that defense from
12:52the checks to the leadership.
12:55So I knew as soon as they lost him, I was like, no one's going to talk about it that
12:59much, but that's going to be a hard, hard replacement for them to replace all the intangible
13:06things that he brought to that defense.
13:08So you covered a lot there.
13:10And I want to come back to Bentley because I think you can speak to something that a
13:13lot of people can't, but we'll stay in the media side.
13:16You lose Juwan Bentley.
13:17Okay.
13:18He's a sure tackler.
13:19He's making the checks.
13:20That's a lot of leadership behind the scenes.
13:21I don't know tangible examples of what that means, like instances where you can see that
13:26you do.
13:27So I want to come back to that.
13:28I'm going to answer my own question off the top one to 10 panic meter is strong.
13:31I'm at like a six and it's not because I pegged the scene for any more than four or five wins.
13:35It's exactly what I had.
13:36But I want to ask you this question before the season, Devin, how many of these players
13:40could you have named the Monterey Jacobs, Michael Jordan, Brian Hudson, city.
13:46So in big Mike on wedding, all five or no, I was familiar with Michael Jordan played
13:53him when he's in Carolina city.
13:58So saw last year and I obviously, I know big Mike, that's where we leave that at.
14:03That is three out of five and that is their starting offensive line as a practice yesterday.
14:08Now, Nick Leverett got banged up in San Francisco and he replaced David Andrews and played really
14:13well and down for single pressure.
14:15Good job by him.
14:16But this is a place where it's not only okay, the talent's not good.
14:20You are to having injuries in spots to John Bentley, David Andrews, we're going to get
14:24to in a second.
14:25The, you just can't replace those guys.
14:27And like, if that's the foundation of the offense, there's nothing really to be done.
14:31Now, there's something that someone told me in the locker room yesterday, like, Hey, here's
14:35a good thing.
14:36It's a young team now.
14:37Like before when it was a bunch of old heads, that was our advantage, a lot of experience
14:41and versatility and all these guys, you had ego families, like you wanted to win.
14:45You knew what it felt like.
14:46You wanted to get back there.
14:47These guys don't know what he bet.
14:48They just want to play.
14:49They want to win.
14:51So I think the six is, is fair just because I think this is a slipperier slope than we
14:56acknowledge, but this can stop here against Miami.
14:58Cause I'm not honestly watching a ton of them and we'll get to them in a second to round
15:02back to Bentley and Andrews.
15:03What are they missing now with DA bent, possibly Duggar who has an ankle injury, like the behind
15:08the scenes leadership stuff, what, what is not going to happen or be affected with these
15:13guys being out for the year?
15:14Yeah.
15:15I think I'm starting with Bentley.
15:17When I think of bed, I think of Thursday night, you, you play against Aaron Rodgers and he's
15:23getting to the line of scrimmage and he's checking stuff.
15:26All right, well, what do we want to do as a defense?
15:28How comfortable do we feel with the guy who's playing middle linebacker, whether it's Jelani,
15:34whether it's Ray Kwan, like, and this is no knock on them.
15:38They just haven't, they didn't, they didn't do that.
15:40That was all Bentley's job of, all right, they're checking this.
15:43I think I know what he's checking too.
15:45I can get us in a new defense.
15:47Like it takes a lot of practice to have confidence and faith that when they check, we used to
15:53mail, used to say they check, we check, they check, we check.
15:56And then at some point they check and we don't have time to check anymore.
16:00So the balance of understanding that and being able to do that, they couldn't do that that
16:06Thursday night as I'm watching the game, like that wasn't happening.
16:10So I looked at what I walked away, it was like, that's, that's Bentley.
16:15That's tougher to do even for like a pepper in the dugger who are good leaders.
16:20They're stepping up.
16:21They've never had to do that because when you check something, it has to get all the
16:25way down to the front.
16:26So you need to know when you check it, that your middle linebacker, whoever that is, it's
16:29comfortable now making the check.
16:31You know how many times Dante Hightower cursed me out because I made a late check and put
16:35the pressure on him to get it to the front four guys, but then we would laugh about it
16:39later or I would say, my bad, that was a little late.
16:42We could do that.
16:43And I think it's the same thing from an offensive standpoint of having David Andrews defense
16:48gives you a new look.
16:49They jumped into something.
16:50He has the knowledge and experience to be like, I don't like what we're in right now.
16:55Hey, check it.
16:56Like those little things within a play, it seems like, well, that only happens a couple
17:00of times.
17:01No, you can get into a game where you can get a whole series of once this team starts
17:06going, they go and they're doing that.
17:09And now until you get into the locker room at halftime, do you have enough experience
17:14and stuff to say on the sideline, let's do this and let's do that in 2020 was a prime
17:18example.
17:19Hightower Hightower decides to opt out.
17:23Bentley gets hurt a little bit like we had linebackers that had never really played.
17:26So I had checks I would want to get to, but I have to now think, is it realistic for me
17:31to put this on some young guy who's getting his opportunity to play and he knows the game
17:36plan, but he doesn't know this check I'm trying to go to.
17:38So I think that's what they're they're going to struggle with now.
17:44And it's hard because each week you want to have a plan that allows you to play to that
17:51team strength.
17:52But when you start losing guys, it makes it harder and harder to get away from the things
17:57that you practice the most and do new things because you just don't have the rhythm.
18:02You don't have guys in there doing the same thing over and over again.
18:06So you end up trying to put more stress on other positions.
18:09So whether it's a secondary or different groups like that, or the tight end room, like rooms
18:14that you know you feel good about, just putting more pressure on them to do more so you can
18:19help the other guys along the way.
18:21Yeah.
18:22And if they get younger, which we know what they're going to do, that's part of the plan
18:25to pack away the rebuild that menu of checks of, oh, we do this in 22.
18:30Let's go back to this.
18:31Do this exactly.
18:32No coverage against empty.
18:33It's not available to you.
18:36So it's not just that Bentley's removed.
18:37You're like, okay, Rayquan McMillan's been around and he'll get more reps and we'll get
18:40more adjusted.
18:41But like that year you referenced the 20.
18:43It wasn't just that Anthony Jennings and Josh Uche were rookies at that linebacker level.
18:47These are guys who played on the edge in college and you had to sub in to play off the ball
18:52because of all the injuries you just mentioned.
18:54That's kind of where we're headed now.
18:55Not just that rookies are going to play, but they're going to play out of position.
18:59So can I get you to a two then out of 10 or are we still at one?
19:02Yeah, we can jump to a two.
19:05The reason the panic doesn't go high for me is because even if it looks better, they still
19:09might not win.
19:10It's just the truth of the matter.
19:13And I firmly believe the NFL is only about winning.
19:17We saw the Baker Mayfield comments about him coming in and being fun and Brady responded
19:22to it because ultimately New England has seen it.
19:26Nobody has fun losing every week or every other week or 10 or eight games in a row.
19:32That's not fun.
19:33I don't care what anybody says.
19:34Your coach can let you play dodgeball all you want.
19:37You can do fun things in facility.
19:39Going out there and losing every week is not fun for anybody.
19:43I don't care what anybody says.
19:45It's just not fun.
19:46Is Gerard playing dodgeball?
19:48I don't think so.
19:49That would be fun if he did, but I don't know if that would lead to job security.
19:54I know there are a lot of good NCAA football battles that are being had in the new game
19:58room, which never existed when you played.
20:01Pretty cool game room too.
20:02Yeah, I saw it one of the times I was up there.
20:04Yeah.
20:05Lucky I got to sneak in there somehow.
20:06Real quick and David Andrews, then we got to get to the game.
20:10My background on this is someone who spoke basically as close as you can to his injury
20:14situation.
20:15He insisted he was going to play Monday, didn't expect to make a decision until later this
20:20week.
20:21Tuesday comes out.
20:22Either the surgery is going to wipe out this season, but if he plays through it, it could
20:25impact his availability for 2025 when he's under contract and wants to play, confirm
20:29all that, mention that the decision is not imminent.
20:31Well, lo and behold, the Patriots had enough people talk to him.
20:34You should get the surgery.
20:35But even Tuesday morning, he's telling Jacoby Brissett, like, yeah, I'm going to try to
20:38work through it.
20:40He's not going to.
20:41They're going to miss a lot with him, aside from the checks and the protections.
20:44Just what does that dude mean in the locker room, having been around him as long as you
20:46were?
20:47Yeah, I just think, for one, he doesn't have a lot of words.
20:52He's a man of few words, but I think the the opportunity people get to just watch him
20:59undrive the free agent rookie year, played every snap in the preseason, every single
21:04snap in the preseason on offense.
21:06Like that's the mentality he has day in and day out.
21:10And the hard thing is, I think from the outside looking in, you're like, oh, well, he's not
21:14he's not going to play because the team is bad.
21:16He's not going to fight the injury like he should or the truth of the matter is sometimes
21:21you fight through injuries and you suck.
21:23You go out on the field and you suck like it just is what it is, especially depending
21:27on what you injured.
21:29And the reports came out that he injured his shoulder.
21:32So you go out there as an offensive lineman and people start to find out because you're
21:37probably going to have something on one of your shoulders and they see what is the game
21:42plan going to be?
21:43Yeah.
21:44Rush that shoulder like no matter what.
21:47And if you can't take that.
21:49So I think Dave's making the right decision because for one in this league, especially
21:54as you get older, every time you go out there on the field and you don't look good, everyone
21:57says you're old, you're done.
21:59So then you end your career.
22:01And the second part is you don't help the team going out there and being bad.
22:06The leadership, the presence he has, he can still have that.
22:10And I'm sure he will day in and day out being in the meeting rooms, being in the facility,
22:16guys seeing him attack rehab and understanding how much it means to him that he he's crushed
22:22that he's missing the season.
22:24Guys feed off of that.
22:25So and I know Dave, I know Dave will have that kind of impact on the team of being in
22:29their day to day, inspiring and motivating those guys.
22:33But I also think those guys will benefit from just watching him and watching how he attacks
22:38the rehab.
22:39Same thing he did in 19 when he had the blood clots and he had to be out.
22:43He was always there helping people, trying to figure out when he could fly on a plane
22:47to go to the way games like that's just who he is.
22:50And I think he'll have that same impact.
22:52Yeah, he's not going anywhere.
22:53He was at the practice facility.
22:56He was on the practice field yesterday with Nick, for whatever reason was limited and
23:01walking through talking through things.
23:03And a couple of guys were like, look, he's already coached.
23:05We have three offensive line coaches now.
23:07He's the fourth.
23:08That's that's just kind of what it is.
23:10All right.
23:11Pat's Miami coming up.
23:12I'm just going to say this and then we'll get straight into the game.
23:13If you want to go to the game, there's one place you got to go and it's game time.
23:16Why?
23:17Because game time with all the different secondary prices and places you can get tickets has
23:21the lowest price guaranteed.
23:22And if you find somewhere else, there's a lower ticket price.
23:25Say Dev McCourty's house.
23:27They will give you one hundred and ten percent of the difference if you show them that ticket
23:30and then you'll get to go.
23:31And I would suggest going to this week's game or the Jets later this month or Houston's
23:35coming to town because a there's going to be great weather.
23:38You're going to have pumpkin beer and tickets are going to be good and they're going to
23:42be competitive.
23:43So go to game time right now.
23:44Lowest price guaranteed.
23:45Filters out all the flops on the incredible deals.
23:46And if you do this downloading the game time app, create an account.
23:49Use code CLNS.
23:50Free 20 bucks.
23:51It's like finding 20 bucks in your pocket, except for it says game time on it.
23:55So download the game time app today.
23:56Create an account.
23:57Terms to apply.
23:58Code CLNS.
23:59What time is it?
24:00Game time.
24:01All right.
24:02Game time.
24:03Are you going to guarantee?
24:04Are you going to guarantee a good game, too?
24:06I'm not going to guarantee anything.
24:08That's that's that's that's OK, here's here's the rundown.
24:13Patriots are one in three.
24:15Miami is one in three.
24:16The last four for the Dolphins, their entire schedule.
24:18And this is how we're going to go through all the preview episodes.
24:21Last week, they lost 31 to 12 at home to Tennessee.
24:24The week before, 24 to three loss at Seattle.
24:27The week before that, 31 to 10 loss versus Buffalo on Thursday night.
24:30But they won their opener 20 to 17 versus Jacksonville.
24:34These are both bottom five football teams.
24:36Patriots are 29th overall by DBA, 29th in offense, 28th in defense.
24:41But number two, number two in special teams, Miami, 31st, the second worst team in football
24:46right now by DBA, worst, dead last, 32nd in offense, 23rd on defense, eighth in special
24:53team.
24:54So when the Patriots have the ball, I ask the same question of James White and Mike
25:00Giardi the two weeks before.
25:02I don't know how Mike got on the five.
25:04It's just I'd like to say what a difference.
25:06You ask James White something, then you ask Mike, and hopefully you threw one of those
25:09opinions out.
25:10Yeah.
25:11I think we threw the whole episode out.
25:12It's just YouTube just said you violated our terms of policy.
25:15We need to reject this immediately.
25:16I'll ask you the same thing.
25:18What are you doing to jumpstart this passing game to whatever level that you can at this
25:22point?
25:23I mean, for one, it starts with protection, and it starts with being able to run the ball
25:28and have different looks off of running the ball.
25:33So I think one of the things that possibly could benefit them that they can handle it
25:37is get a little bit more uptempo.
25:40The problem is if you don't get first downs and you just you go three and out and the
25:43defense is back on the field fast, but just something I think that can get the team going.
25:49I think the Jets put a little bit of a formula of just sending pressure and being able to
25:55cover in the back end.
25:57San Francisco is always different.
25:58That's not really who they are, and they have some absolute studs on their team.
26:04But I think a game like this against Miami, you're playing so poorly on offense right
26:09now.
26:10You don't even know teams go to against you.
26:12You don't understand how they're going to play you, whereas some of these offenses,
26:17they know.
26:18You play against Aaron Rodgers, he's dicing up zone defense.
26:20So Aaron Rodgers knows usually going into the game, I'm probably going to get a little
26:24bit more man if they go zone.
26:25I'm not worried about that because I'm going to...
26:27I don't know what the offense in New England has right now to hang their hat of like, well,
26:32if they do this, that's our strength.
26:34So we're going to game plan mainly for them doing this because we know they can't do that
26:40against us and expect success.
26:41So I do, I think maybe a little know-how, a little up-tempo can help them out.
26:47Again, when you can't protect, it's really hard.
26:51And when I say protect, it doesn't mean that these guys are just awful.
26:55Protect consistently, being able to do different things from an offensive scheme standpoint
26:59that the offensive coordinator feels good of running plays and set up another play,
27:03like to get into a rhythm of the game.
27:06And that's what they've struggled to ever like fully get into a rhythm of the game,
27:10to be able to throw the ball down the field and get things going.
27:13So yeah, again, I think no huddle.
27:17I think obviously getting the running game going a little, what we used to call max passes
27:22where you try to block up everybody, keep an extra one or two guys in, but then you
27:27put a lot of pressure on the guys that are out, maybe two guys running a route, they
27:31got to win.
27:32You know what I mean?
27:33So that's the hard thing.
27:34But I will say overall, watching some of these young receivers, it looks like they're improving,
27:38they're winning.
27:39Polk had a non-catch that could have easily felt like it could have been a catch in San
27:43Francisco.
27:44Pop Douglas, I think they're struggling to get him the ball.
27:47But when you watch some of the film, he's open sometimes, like he's doing a good job
27:51getting open.
27:52So I think they should have some confidence in those guys, that receiver, to try to do
27:57some different things to get them the ball.
27:58Yeah.
27:59I mentioned tempo last week and I like it not even as, Hey, we're going to go no huddle
28:0480 miles an hour down the field, but you kind of change the pace, right?
28:07Like you talk about Aaron Rodgers, getting up to the line, using that cadence.
28:10Okay.
28:11Stop.
28:12Back off.
28:13Check with me.
28:14Jacoby can do that.
28:15He's done it.
28:16We saw it in training camp.
28:17It's just something like you said, to kind of jolt this.
28:18I want to first argue against my suggestion and then I'm going to make it because Miami
28:23right now, in addition to being the worst offensive league is using the highest rate
28:26of motion.
28:27And I don't know if you got the class or the seminar, the packet Devin, where it says the
28:31media must drool over motion at all times, because it's something we can see and we can
28:35measure.
28:36And that means it's something worthwhile.
28:37Miami, again, number one in the league in motion, dead last in scoring points.
28:42But I lot, I watched a lot of three yard stop routes in San Francisco as part of this quick
28:48game package.
28:49And what you have are Niners corners driving on those because there was nothing stressing
28:53them.
28:54Otherwise their receivers in isolation, the Patriots are dead last in motion at the snap
28:58this year.
28:59They're like 20th in overall motion.
29:01I need to stress the defense a little bit more schematically than I think they're doing
29:04right now to unlock some spaces, either, you know, moving eyes and zone or creating conflict
29:11and traffic versus man.
29:12And I'll do a little bit of this.
29:13Like pop Douglas will start in the left slot and zoom across the formation.
29:18And then he's running a wheel and it's a post wheel.
29:19You're like, okay, that's standard.
29:21But if you're staring at that as a DB, you're like, right, it's all simple.
29:25You just need to make it a little harder.
29:26So more motion like that, I think could get them some freer yards or easier access stuff
29:31than right now.
29:32It's like, okay, everyone has to win in the route.
29:33And that's the only way that we're going to throw the ball.
29:36Yeah.
29:37And the hard thing is for the most part, like I think of van Pelt, like their offense was
29:41always kind of built on more like personnel changes of running the same things with different
29:46personnel.
29:48So like in Cleveland, it was three tight ends, but it would look like three, three wide receivers
29:52in the game.
29:53And then you would throw the ball.
29:54And like, I haven't seen much of that.
29:56I know a little bit of that falls on the personnel that they have.
29:59But I think to your point is I would love to see the motions of it, but I think they
30:04have to get a little bit more exotic and that's easier said than done.
30:09When I don't know the capacity of which guys can handle and do those things.
30:13Do you have enough guys that, you know, we can run 13 personnel, three tight ends and
30:19have a full running game off of it, but also a full passing game drop back.
30:24Like, do we have enough time during the week to implement that and everybody get what they
30:30need to do?
30:31Or do we need to rep it a ton?
30:32So then if we rep a lot of that, then we lose another personnel group.
30:36Like that's the hard thing that I don't know from being in a building that they have, if
30:40they can do that.
30:42That to me, offensively, they have to find advantages before the play starts, like give
30:47them some kind of edge before the play starts.
30:50Because I know people, they hate hearing it, but like overall, when you draw up what they're
30:56going against, a lot of times, like there's a good amount of matchups as a defense.
31:01You come into the game and you go, I like that matchup for us.
31:04Like I like that.
31:06When you have that situation, you have to try to find certain edges to even a playing
31:12field or give your guys enough of an edge that it makes it a little bit easier to make
31:17a play or eventually like the other team just makes a couple more plays than you.
31:23Yeah.
31:24And to the point about matchups, I want to get where you think they should just hammer
31:28the Dolphins, if anywhere.
31:29But it's kind of a loaded question, or maybe it's not loaded at all.
31:33When you're 31st and passing in your 27th and rushing right now by DBA, now granted
31:37Miami defensively 22nd against the past 26 against the run, you brought up the tight
31:42ends.
31:43And again, I want your answer on this too.
31:45I think that's where I would pivot.
31:46Like there are three receiver sets right now.
31:48We're giving them nothing.
31:48They have the lowest success rate of any of their personnel groupings.
31:51They're using them a ton.
31:52There are a lot of different reasons for that.
31:54But at least when you're in those two tight end packages, that helps in protections.
31:57If you want to go to some of those max looks, these guys can chip if they're going to dump
32:01off into the flat anyway or run a little stick or run a little stop out or whatever.
32:05And right now, the patch are third worst bypass yards per attempt in six worse bypass rating
32:10overall as a passing offense.
32:12But when they run two tight ends as 12 personnel sets, they're average.
32:17It's average bypass rating in yards per attempt.
32:19So that's what I would see.
32:20But whether it's something the Patriots are doing with their personnel or attacking Miami's,
32:25what's an area you say this is a battleground you have to attack and circle and look at.
32:32I think it's on the edge and in the run game.
32:35And I think ultimately can lead into the past game.
32:38You know, they lost the Dolphins lost, lost Jalen Phillips last week.
32:43And, you know, he's the type of guy who's a stud, you know, a really good football player
32:47for them.
32:47So to me, you just said a 26 and rushing as a defense.
32:52That's something that you have showed can be a strength for you.
32:55Now you're banged up on the offensive line as well.
32:58But that, to me, is something that they they need to kind of play towards getting
33:03Gibson and getting remandering on the edge and having the ability to make plays.
33:08And then that also comes with once you get the running game going,
33:11maybe it's a reverse to pop Douglas.
33:13Maybe it's a jet sweep to pop Douglas to get him on the outside and get the ball in his hands.
33:18And I would say, especially early, trying to get different guys the ball early and not
33:24just doing it the traditional way.
33:26I would love to like I would credit Josh McDermott.
33:29I thought he did as good of a job as anyone in 2020 when we had Cam, where Cam didn't
33:35get a full all season and training camp.
33:38And we used to find different ways to do different things, whether it was Jacobi Myers throwing
33:44a pass, like whatever it looked like, you just try to do different things to help us
33:49as an offense to like, all right, if I steal three or four plays that can ultimately lead
33:54us into the red zone where we either score and now we get to 21 points or we score twice
34:00and we kick two field goal, like different things like that.
34:03I think he did a really good job of that.
34:05And I think this Patriots offense, they have to find ways to get other guys.
34:10Like you can't bank on, we're going to throw the ball to our receivers on three, three
34:16step drops, quick slants, hitches, throw the ball.
34:20Like we can't bank on that because that hasn't happened for us through the first four games.
34:24So what else, what are other things we can do to help get these guys the ball in their
34:29hands and allow the playmakers to make plays?
34:32So speaking of those receivers, some good news here for the Patriots, Kendrick Bourne
34:36practicing again this week.
34:37Right now, from what I've heard, I would bank on him playing on Sunday.
34:41Once I have that a little firmer, you'll, you'll see it in writing, but for the folks
34:45listening to the pod, things are looking good.
34:46Number two is Vidarian Lowe might be back, which I want everyone to pause and reflect
34:50on the fact that he was his name.
34:52Give him some respect.
34:54Yes.
34:54Yes.
34:54Give him some respect.
34:55His name was shorthand for how do I want to catch her?
34:57The Pat's offensive line sucks.
34:59Oh, I'll say Vidarian Lowe's are starting left tackle.
35:01And he gave up four pressures in both the games.
35:03Now he is your, you know, savior of this offensive line.
35:07He might be back laying Robinson banged up.
35:09He's having a tough time in past, bro.
35:10He's a rookie.
35:12I made this cop before.
35:13I don't know if you think this is fair shades, like very distant, faint shades of a young
35:18Shaq Mason.
35:20Fair.
35:21And that's what you expect.
35:22Like, again, I'll never pretend I'm a expert of offensive line play.
35:27I don't, I don't watch much of the big uglies when I turn on the game, but young rookies
35:33will never, unless they're special, like, it's just not a smooth transition weekend
35:37and week out playing on the offensive line at different looks.
35:40You get like all of those things makes it harder.
35:43So that's, that's a work in progress.
35:45But the key for them is those guys being on the field so they can get better practicing
35:51playing in the games.
35:52Like that is what New England has to push, push towards it.
35:56Like those guys being out there and not banged up so much because then every time you get
36:00banged up, you're limited in practice.
36:02So you're not really practicing.
36:03You get out there on the game.
36:05Like a lot of these, they're not good enough to not get it in during the weekend practice
36:09and then go play in the game.
36:11Like it takes, it takes a while to build towards that, to be able to do that at a high level.
36:16Yeah.
36:16And they've had guys in and out.
36:17David Andrews is out.
36:18We don't know what that's going to look like until they're actually out on the field, but
36:21the protection is what it is.
36:22Hopefully more motion, more tight ends, maybe a little bit more tempo on offense.
36:26And I honestly, NFL teams are five and 33 this year when they score fewer than 17 points.
36:32Can we just get it to 18?
36:34Like just, just, yeah.
36:37Oh, and they have one of those wins by the way, because it was 16 to 10 in Cincinnati.
36:41Defensively.
36:42I mentioned Kendrick Barnes and practicing again.
36:44The same is so true for Seoni Takitaki, Marte Mapu.
36:47I have no idea what to expect in anything from either of those guys, even though right
36:50now is Kyle Duggar likely out with an ankle injury.
36:53Pep has been out with a shoulder injury and we'll see what brings there.
36:57But you're talking Jalen Hawkins, Del Pettis, maybe Brendan Schooler playing there.
37:01Maybe they rushed Mapa back.
37:03Maybe they don't.
37:04I want to ask you about something else though, because I've said this, I've written it and
37:07I've given my reasons why, but you are more familiar with the system.
37:11You played there, you know, the guys, everything.
37:12I think the Patriots have been outcoached a little bit on defense last two weeks.
37:15You covered the Jets game.
37:17I saw it in San Francisco, the way that they were playing as much base as they were.
37:20Injuries factored.
37:21That's what Shanahan wants.
37:22I'm going to run the ball 30 times to you and hit you over the top of play action.
37:25Do you agree though, or disagree with this notion that the last couple of weeks,
37:29unlike in the opener, I think they've been outcoached a little bit.
37:32I thought the Jets game definitely fall into that.
37:37I knew San Francisco was going to be a tough ass because we played them in 2020.
37:42The way their scheme is built is really tough on the Patriots.
37:45What they do and the way they're built, how they can come out in big personnel,
37:50but because of George Kittle and Uchek, they can then spread you out.
37:55But now you have the big people on the field.
37:57And Kyle Shanahan knows exactly what we're talking about with the Patriots,
38:00on what they should do.
38:01San Francisco not only does that, they have some of the best versatile pieces
38:07in the National Football League.
38:09Debo Samuel, George Kittle, and Uchek.
38:12Those three guys and having a game plan in front of me,
38:15I have no idea where they're going to line up or what they might do on a play,
38:18is really hard.
38:20And then you put in a factor that the Patriots are now playing without their signal caller,
38:25the guy who would be responsible for getting them in and out of the defenses.
38:28I think that has been more to do with some of their defensive struggles and being outcoached.
38:37I don't know how much Demarcus Covington can actually install and implement
38:42or it's going to be new.
38:43And based on stopping the new offense that they're playing,
38:47I think that has been a big challenge for them.
38:51And I thought that even showed up a little bit to me.
38:54Seattle too was, I thought they need to play way more man-to-man coverage
38:58because Geno and that, they were dicing up the zone.
39:02And I thought they needed to get to some more man
39:04when I helped them in that game as well.
39:06So Miami, going back to that for here for a second,
39:08their 30th and passing, 32nd rushing, they stink.
39:11They're terrible.
39:12A lot of this is losing to a...
39:14They haven't been particularly good up front.
39:15Patriots are 28th versus the pass, 18th versus the run.
39:19You're scouting a part of this system.
39:21And Shanahan asks, what did you know about what they want to do
39:24and how they want to do it when you were playing and you still watch them now?
39:29It's what you just said though.
39:30It's what do they want to do when two is there
39:32and what do they want to do when two is not there?
39:35When two is there, I would say for the most part,
39:37they do the same things, they just don't hit the same way.
39:40The play action, the quick throws over the middle, the pop pass,
39:43how they're able to attack the middle of the field,
39:45but also have this speed that as they fake or a jet motion
39:49and it's A-chain or whoever it has been in the past,
39:54they've been able to exploit that with some speed guys
39:57and they get you kind of going this way, east and west.
40:01And then all of a sudden, it's Waddle, it's Tyric Hill right behind you.
40:05And it's so fast that when they catch the ball, they're gone.
40:10For some reason, they cannot find another quarterback
40:13who can come off those reads the way Tua could,
40:17whether it was Teddy Bridgewater, Skylar Thompson,
40:19like you name it through the years when I was there,
40:22when Tua got into NFL, when we played Tua, we lost.
40:25When Tua was out, we won.
40:28Like it was that simple because the impact he has.
40:31So for the Patriots, without Tua being in there, everything just slows down.
40:36So the truth of the matter is,
40:38if you watch the Buffalo Bills and the way they play them,
40:41they're like, and this is even with Tua,
40:42they're like, go ahead, run the ball.
40:45You'll get a couple of runs.
40:47But the thing we will not do,
40:49we will not give up the middle of our defense.
40:52And I'm not 100% sure
40:54because I didn't go back and watch a bunch of the Buffalo games,
40:56but this year when I watched it,
40:58I felt like Buffalo's linebackers take a step back
41:01to get instead of like four and a half, five,
41:03it's almost like six yards between them and the line of scrimmage.
41:06They run downhill, they play that way.
41:08And then the secondary backs up and they say,
41:11you're not going to run by us.
41:12Like it's that simple.
41:13Drive the field, figure it out.
41:16Then if you score that way, we'll live with it.
41:18But most likely you won't.
41:20Now the gift Buffalo has is they have 17 on the other side.
41:23He goes and scores touchdowns and they play from ahead.
41:27If New England could do that, play that style
41:29and get some points on the board and play from ahead,
41:32that takes the running game out all by itself.
41:35So it'll be interesting to see
41:36if they can pull that off and do it.
41:38Yeah, I agree.
41:39To your point, Buffalo also plays a ton of cover too,
41:42which we've seen a lot from the Patriots here.
41:43And you want to talk about capping, Hill and Waddle.
41:46That's where I would start.
41:47If I'm not sure about my safeties, don't put them in the middle.
41:49Like you were always responsible all alone.
41:51Like you are today at the household, like single highest stuff.
41:55We've got to play cover too.
41:56When it's just, you know, you got two parents
41:58or two safeties back there, especially with some injuries.
42:00And again, I don't think Duggar's going to play.
42:02I think Pep might.
42:03You're dealing with injuries at linebacker, up front, defensively.
42:06The edges are going to be huge too, because that's know-how,
42:08whether it's your motion or just getting a chin on the edges
42:12or sometimes giving the ball to Hill and Waddle.
42:13That's how they want to play.
42:15The issue for them is Tyler Huntley is now pulling the trigger.
42:17To your point, he was 14 to 22, 96 yards,
42:20rushed for another 40 in a touchdown on the ground
42:23when Miami played Tennessee last week.
42:24But this is your biggest hope if you're the Patriots going.
42:27He's technically a pro bowler, but he's in a new offense
42:31and he's still learning the names of the guys
42:32he's throwing the ball to.
42:34So is this as simple to you as keep Huntley in the pocket
42:36and keep a lid on Hill and Waddle,
42:38who both are fine to start this year, 17 catches
42:41and just over 200 yards?
42:42But is it that simple?
42:43Yeah, I mean, hopefully you get Anthony Jennings back.
42:45You get him back, who one thing about Jennings is,
42:49you know, edge is going to be set
42:52and you get Keon White on the opposite side.
42:54Like you should feel pretty good about setting the edge
42:57and having those guys have their eyes open
43:00and seeing the speed coming,
43:01whether it's Tyreek Hill coming in the back,
43:03all those little things,
43:04you should feel good about that.
43:06I think the key for them is going to be like,
43:08how good do you feel inside, right?
43:10Your defensive tackles, your linebackers,
43:12to your safeties of, all right,
43:15those guys are doing a good job of forcing it back inside.
43:18Now we got to step up.
43:19We got to get off blocks.
43:20We got to make plays.
43:21So I think that'll be, that'll definitely be a key.
43:24But yeah, Huntley could ruin the game simply by running.
43:28That is something they have to make sure
43:30when they get him past the situations
43:32that they realize it's more important
43:33that he has more time in the pocket
43:36where he's sitting there in the pocket to throw
43:38than it is where you rush him,
43:40you make him leave the pocket,
43:41but now there's no edge and he can just run.
43:43Like that's a lot worse for that defense
43:46than him sitting back there patting the ball
43:48because if he's patting the ball,
43:49that means we're still doing pretty good in coverage.
43:51We got to bank on that.
43:53He's going to struggle to know where to go with the ball
43:56and eventually we will get home and get the sack,
43:58but you don't want to run.
44:00Like I was watching Pittsburgh film
44:02and Indy came scot-free off the edge.
44:04They got Justin Fields, dead to rights, unblocked guy.
44:07He looks at the guy, puts his foot on the ground,
44:09runs the other way, picks up 16 yards.
44:11And Snoop Huntley's the same way.
44:13Like you can be free to him,
44:14but if he makes you miss, he's gone.
44:17So they have to do a good job of keeping him in a pocket
44:21and contain rushing him, whatever words you want to use,
44:25but making sure he stays in the pocket.
44:27Cool. All right.
44:28We're going to go speed around here.
44:29You've been more than gracious with your time,
44:31staying way longer than I told you we would go.
44:33Three, two, one preview.
44:34We do three matchups, two keys, one wildcard thought.
44:37A matchup you're looking, saying like, okay,
44:39if this is going to decide the game,
44:41might decide the game, this is that matchup.
44:43Oh, it's definitely Miami's defensive line
44:46versus the New England offensive line.
44:48I think that is the matchup that I want to see.
44:52There's, sadly in this game,
44:54there's no like one guy that, you know,
44:56you sit there and you say they have to.
44:58I think Miami's interior with a sealer
45:02and Calais Campbell could be a problem,
45:04but overall like the Patriots have to dominate.
45:08Like the game they won this year,
45:10they manhandled the line of scrimmage offensively.
45:14Like that has to be the key for them.
45:15Yeah. I'm looking at the edges.
45:17We just talked about it.
45:18Jennings should be back.
45:18You still got Uche in the mix.
45:20Wise is there.
45:20Keon White's running behind the quarterback,
45:22which we know is just the fastest way
45:24to a timeout and Bill Belichick's defense
45:25go stand in the corner, Keon,
45:27and stare there for 10 minutes.
45:29The other one I'm looking for is just ball security.
45:32Anyone running by Ramondre Stevenson
45:35who has a handout versus him,
45:37because that ball's been on the ground way too much.
45:39In a way, you don't see it in high school.
45:42And we took this long to get to it
45:44because I don't know what more there is to say.
45:46It's just, it's just bad.
45:47And it's tough for them
45:48because they have to give him the ball.
45:50As much as you want to feed Gibson,
45:53and that's great.
45:54I would give Gibson more carries too this week.
45:56But like, you need to run the ball a lot.
45:58You need two guys.
45:59So Ramondre is going to have the ball in his hands.
46:02And he just, he's a guy that,
46:05they have to feel is one of their best way.
46:06He has to be better.
46:08This isn't all Mayo to make a decision.
46:10And you know, like Ramondre Stevenson
46:13has to be better protecting the ball
46:15because they count on him to play.
46:18And they're going to continue to count on him to play.
46:19It's up to him to get that done.
46:22Yeah. You're holding the ball.
46:23You're, you're holding the franchise.
46:25Three match-ups there.
46:26Two keys.
46:27What do you got?
46:28Or one key?
46:30One key for the game.
46:33You took the best key ever
46:34because the game is not turnovers
46:38are the key to the game.
46:40But I would go on the other side.
46:42I will flip it to defense.
46:43I think the key to the game will be the secondary.
46:46I think for every position that's hit,
46:49the corner group is still good.
46:51If Peppers can get out there and play,
46:53if Marte can come back
46:56and they can, you know,
46:57use the other guys like Del Pettis in school,
46:59if they can use them in a role,
47:01you have to look and say,
47:02all right, that's probably our biggest strength right now
47:05as a defense of having Gonzalez
47:08and the Jones brothers or Marcus and John.
47:10Like you, you have to feel pretty good.
47:12So they're going to need them to step up
47:15and be able to be a little bit more creative
47:18with the other guys,
47:19relying on the corners and the guys in the secondary
47:22to hold their ground and be able to handle things.
47:25Because again, I know neither offense is good
47:28so far this season.
47:30I just think that New England can never forget
47:32like the defense is a strength of this team.
47:35And if they play poorly,
47:37it's going to be really hard to win.
47:40It's going to be hard to even compete
47:41if they don't play well.
47:43Yeah, I already said setting the edge with the matchup.
47:45I will just go tackling of Tyree Kill and Jalen Waddell.
47:48Like they, as bad as they've been on offense,
47:51speaking of Miami and Tyler Huntley's running around,
47:53doesn't know anybody.
47:54Their stress on you is that, you know,
47:56if you miss a tackle, they could be gone to the house.
47:59Tyree Kill, Jalen Waddell, HN, don't let that happen.
48:02Just tackle well.
48:03Last thing, one wild card thought.
48:05As long as it's Pat Stolphins, it could be a memory.
48:07It could be goofy.
48:08It could be X's and O's, whatever it is.
48:10Just a wild card thought about this game.
48:13Oh man, wild card thought of Miami and New England.
48:16I'm not going to, you know what I'm not going to do?
48:18I'm going to do what Bill always said.
48:20Don't live in the past.
48:21So I'm not going to bring up some great memory
48:23of like Monday night football, playing the Dolphins
48:26and all of that good stuff.
48:27You have good memories against Miami?
48:28I was going to say it might be the opposite.
48:31No, no, we, I mean, the funny thing is
48:34because we won so much.
48:35When we lost, it was a way bigger deal
48:37and like forgotten about how many times overall
48:40we did win that matchup a ton and dominated division.
48:44But the times we did lose, it just, again, you know,
48:48Boston, the Celtics won a championship last year
48:51and the whole run, it was like, this team doesn't look good.
48:54And it was like, they lost like three games
48:55in the whole playoff.
48:56So, but no, wild card thing for me
48:59is Jacoby Brissett has three touchdown passes
49:02in this game on Sunday.
49:05Let it rip, Jacoby.
49:06I'm going to text him after this and tell him
49:08I just went on and said he would have
49:10three touchdown passes in the game.
49:14I think, and again, the wild card thought
49:16is not without reason.
49:18New England's defense will create turnovers
49:20that will allow them to be in favorable field position
49:23that will allow them to throw the ball into the end zone.
49:27Because Miami, there's no way you can play New England
49:30and forget eight in a box.
49:32Like your safety, maybe your free safety
49:36is nine or eight yards off the ball.
49:38Like I just, the way that New England has played,
49:42I just don't see a reason to be any further than 10 yards
49:46by anybody who's a deep player until the ball snaps.
49:48So I think that'll allow them to throw the ball
49:51and Jacoby Brissett lets it rip Sunday.
49:53Yeah, okay, cool.
49:55And now look, if it goes the opposite way,
49:57I will apologize to him for setting you up to jinx him
50:00as bad as you did.
50:01I'll say this, whoever's leading after the first quarter
50:03wins this game.
50:04That's what I think this is.
50:06You're gonna feel that pressure and stress.
50:07Like it's just-
50:08You don't think it's a high likelihood of 0-0?
50:12Oh, then we all lose.
50:12Then we're all gonna go home and die and no one had fun.
50:16And here we are again at one and four, but hopefully not.
50:18Hopefully there's some juice.
50:19It's gonna be a great day at the stadium.
50:21You're gonna be on Sunday Night Football.
50:23Who do you guys have this week for Sunday night, by the way?
50:26We got Pitt and Dallas, old school classic.
50:30That's just like the easy ratings button
50:32that you're just slamming there.
50:33Anytime it's the Cowboys, but especially Steeler.
50:35Look, I'm not gonna say I'm not going to watch, but-
50:37It should be a good game.
50:42Yeah, yeah.
50:42Thank you so much.
50:43Always appreciate the time, man.
50:44Especially when you go overtime
50:45and we'll have to see how this follows up.
50:47Jacoby Percet, three touchdowns.
50:49It's a lot.
50:50I'm gonna text him.
50:51If he doesn't get it done, then I'm gonna call Mayo and say,
50:54hey, I told him that he had a job to do.
50:56He didn't do it.
50:56It might be time to just cut him now.
51:00This is going on for real.
51:02Thank you, Devin.
51:03No problem, man.
51:04All right, Jalen Polk is our victim this week
51:06in the four-minute drill.
51:07To wrap up another episode of Pat's Interference,
51:08he knows the drill.
51:09You know the drill.
51:10We're gonna start the clock and here we go.
51:12Jalen Polk goes to karaoke.
51:14What's the first song he's gonna pick?
51:17I'll probably pick the song where it goes,
51:22to the right, to the right, to the right.
51:25Yeah, yeah.
51:25So it'd be that one.
51:26Are you doing it at that volume?
51:28I feel like you gotta be a little bit louder at karaoke bar.
51:30Nah, yeah, I'll be louder for sure.
51:32I like that song just cause, you know,
51:35it can get everybody up and out this season dancing too.
51:38All right.
51:39The NFL corner you're most looking forward to facing
51:41either this season or sometime in your career is who?
51:45I really don't have a valid answer on that one.
51:49I just look forward to going out there
51:51and competing every week with anybody.
51:54How about the next guy, Jalen Ramsey?
51:55You looking forward to that?
51:56Yeah, for sure.
51:57The most important lesson you've learned
51:59about being in the NFL is what?
52:01I think weighing in correctly and when weigh-ins come in.
52:10Of course, you know, not being late.
52:14They fine you nowadays.
52:15So not saying that that's me,
52:17but that is something that you gotta look forward to.
52:20Okay.
52:21When you look across this locker room
52:23and you think I'm the best at this,
52:25it could be a game, an activity.
52:26What is that?
52:27What does that think?
52:29Cooking.
52:30What do you cook?
52:31I can cook some chicken spaghetti.
52:32I can cook some turkey necks, some oxtails.
52:36I can cook whatever you need.
52:38I got it.
52:38Anything you need?
52:39Because I was going to say I don't cook,
52:40but I make chicken, turkey and spaghetti,
52:42but the oxtails was new.
52:43That's a curve ball.
52:43Yeah, oxtails with some corn bread,
52:46some gravy and some rice.
52:47You're good.
52:48All right.
52:49Best part of moving to New England so far?
52:50I think the best part is honestly the people
52:53and the scenery is real pretty out here,
52:56especially like right now with the fall
52:58and how, you know, everything is changing.
53:00So it's pretty cool.
53:03All right.
53:03Worst part of moving to New England?
53:05There's no worst part so far other than I think,
53:10I think like there's not as many like fast foods.
53:12I don't know.
53:13That may be where like I live at,
53:15but they're kind of spread out.
53:16So you got to kind of dig and look for them.
53:18Yeah.
53:18I was going to say you're coming from, you know,
53:20Seattle, you got in and out
53:21and then you're coming from Texas before that.
53:22Like anything you want is probably
53:24just a five minute driveway.
53:24A little different here.
53:25Yeah, a lot different for sure.
53:26You like Dunkin?
53:27I love Dunkin.
53:28I love Dunkin.
53:29I've no hold off on Starbucks,
53:32but I kind of shifted away.
53:33My girlfriend put me on a drink.
53:35I think it's like the butter pecan iced coffee
53:38with cream, no sugar.
53:39It's been my go to.
53:41Every morning?
53:42Not every morning, but mostly like on the off days.
53:46All right.
53:46We got a minute and a half left.
53:48You scored a touchdown in college
53:49against Christian Gonzalez in Oregon.
53:51I know it wasn't against him,
53:52but I'm curious when you were getting ready for that game,
53:54what was the scouting report number zero over there?
53:56Oh yeah.
53:57Shoot, elite guy.
53:59So you got to be able to game plan and prep
54:02around guys like that
54:03because it's going to be a dog fight
54:06when you able to line up against somebody like that.
54:09All right.
54:09What's the wildest ask you've received,
54:12a request in the last 12 months
54:14from someone in your life?
54:15Tickets, money, you get to the NFL,
54:17someone comes out of the woodwork to say,
54:19oh, can I have one of these?
54:22Probably like snacks and stuff
54:24from like some of the guys in the receiver room.
54:27With the snacks and their teammates?
54:29Yeah.
54:30So they had me and JB go to the store
54:33and bring everybody snacks
54:35and that just tally up stuff every day
54:38until we brought some stuff.
54:39Okay.
54:40Sounds like rookie hazing.
54:41Yeah, yeah.
54:42All right.
54:42Two more.
54:43What does Jalen Polk trash talk sound like?
54:48Jalen Polk is here right now.
54:49I think on the field is like PZ or Monster P.
54:52So he's not here right now.
54:54You got to tune in on Sunday to see.
54:56Wait, you have a persona?
54:58Yeah.
54:58Yeah.
54:58Monster P.
54:59Monster P.
55:00Give us a little taste of Monster P.
55:01This will be the last question.
55:02We're running out of time.
55:02But like, what's that dude like?
55:07That's all I can say.
55:08All right.
55:08Put on the mask.
55:09That'll do it for the four minute drill.
55:10Jalen Polk, aka Master P.
55:11Monster P, excuse me.
55:13Thank you, sir.
