00:13In today's video, we're bringing out the Samsung Galaxy A55.
00:17And if you're new to the channel, this is where I take these phones out
00:20to try and test them against stuff that you guys would probably use them for.
00:25That includes taking these cameras out and about to see how they perform.

00:38We're in Shamrip, Cambodia, a short distance away from the famed Angkor Wat Temple.
00:43And we're here at a special time.
00:44It's Khmer New Year, so expect festivities in this vlog.
00:48These new phones are IP rated because it looks like we're gonna need it today.
00:55We're not even there yet, and when?

00:59So I have the Lilac A55, and I'm pretty happy about how this phone looks.
01:04It doesn't feel cheap, and it's actually quite a sizable phone.
01:07It is near the size of the Samsung S24 Plus.
01:11And when you see someone holding this phone from afar,
01:14you'd really only notice a difference because of that matte back,
01:18and of course, the different color options.
01:20And ooh, look at how the light shines on the back of this phone.

01:27This is the super steady mode.

01:38No steady mode on the front facing camera, but that's the least of our problems right now.
01:44So shooting with the rear cameras of this phone, it does shoot in 4K.
01:50Front and back, I'm getting so distracted because so many things happening right now.
01:55But that was the moto ride to Pub Street.
01:57We are in Chambril for the Khmer holidays.
02:01And first of all, that was a pretty interesting ride.
02:05But more interesting to me is how good the steady mode is.
02:08Unfortunately, it does downgrade to 1080p.
02:10So I also don't know what resolution this vlog is gonna be at, but yeah, know that that is the case.

02:19This is basically the evening or the afternoon before the celebrations start.
02:26Walking and talking 1X on the rear camera.
02:31As you can see, celebrations include a lot of water.
02:34Look at the water guns they have for sale.
02:37Everybody has these today.
02:39Today, more than any other day, I'm appreciating that this phone is IP rated.
03:09Of course, since we're looking at the cameras, a quick recap.
03:34This phone reps on the back at 12MP wide.
03:37A 50MP main camera.
03:39And this is important, this camera has OIS.
03:43You have a 5MP macro.
03:45And up front, that's a 32MP selfie camera.
03:50The day wrapped up with more water, of course.
03:53And during Songkran, this is symbolic for washing away the previous year and welcoming in the new one.
04:02In low-light scenarios, I usually don't expect a lot from non-flagship devices.
04:07But I would say that this phone camera can be pretty capable in nighttime scenarios.
04:13Of course, that's all owing to the big pixel camera on that main 50MP shooter.
04:21Battery check, this phone reps a 5000mAh battery.
04:25And despite shooting all throughout the day, this did last me throughout.
04:2912PM and we are at 62%.

04:35No, it doesn't.
04:37You get the idea.
04:39Now, the A55 does have an eSIM and a physical SIM slot.
04:43And my usage with this phone this day is with a physical SIM.
04:47I don't think I've ever had this much use for an IP rated device.
04:52And thank God, this is IP67 rated.
04:54So that means, well, all this water, it's gonna be fine.
04:58Another thing I like about Samsung devices is the quick share feature.
05:02That just makes it easier to send files on these phones.
05:05And it's basically like AirDrop.
05:12Day 2 was spent exploring temples in the Angkor Wat complex.
05:16This is the ancient Khmer capital and one of the cultural wonders of the world.
05:24You know what's pretty cool about this camera?
05:26I am shooting with rear cameras.
05:281X 4K and you can switch between the front and the rear cameras as you're shooting.
05:36But also it's so hot.
05:43Okay, so this is 4K wide.
05:461X, 2X up until 10X.
05:53There is a little lag when you toggle in between the zoom.
05:58But once you adjust, it looks okay.

07:00Now that evening was a blur.
07:02And the only thing I have to show for, these videos.
07:15At this point, it's been a few days with this phone.
07:18And I am quite impressed with battery performance.
07:21Especially because I've been vlogging throughout.
07:24That usually drains a lot of battery.
07:26For the last few days, I've had over 4 hours of on-screen time with this phone.
07:31And yes, I know that on-screen time is not necessarily definitive of battery performance.
07:35But at least you sort of get an idea, and with my usage, of how long this phone would last.
07:44We're spending a day at Angkor Wat.
07:45And if you didn't know, that's different from the Angkor Wat complex.
07:48The complex is the cluster of temples.
07:51And Angkor Wat is the specific temple.
07:55Kadao, kadao.
08:01Walking and talking with a front-facing camera of the S, no, A55.
08:08It's so kadao.
08:09Kadao is hot.
08:10In Kamay.
08:12It's beautiful, but it's hot out.
08:14But look.
08:17Angkor Wat.
08:18And yes, this is 4K because this phone can do 4K front-facing using the wide rear camera.

08:30So nice.
08:31And by the way, I am wearing a jacket because you're supposed to cover up when in the temple.
08:37So you can't really show, I think, your shoulders and your knees.
08:41For women at least.
08:42And so this is the fit check.
08:46And yes, I'm still wearing Uniqlo.
08:54This is the 6.6 full HD plus super AMOLED screen on this phone.
08:59And this has a thousand nits brightness.
09:02But even that was no match for the tropical high noon sun.
09:05Which is fair.
09:06I don't think any phone that I've tested out would survive this much brightness.
09:11If you've ever wondered what the top of the Angkor Wat looks like.
09:21This phone also supposedly has super HDR on photos and videos.
09:25And because of how bright it is and how everything looks from inside the temple.
09:30This was the best time to test that out.

09:49And that was our last few days with the Samsung Galaxy A55.

09:55Honestly, I'm always amazed by how capable the cameras are on these more affordable Samsung devices.
10:01Of course, they won't compare to the bells and whistles you'd find on the flagship models.
10:06But definitely capable, especially in ideal shooting scenarios.
