00:00Guess what we have?
00:12Good day, you beautiful people.
00:13Welcome to Issa Does Tech, where we do tech in your life, in style.
00:16It's been a week of foldies for this channel,
00:19and I saved the biggest for last.
00:22In this video, we're going to be unboxing the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 in icy blue.
00:26We're going to check out what's new.
00:28We're going to see what this foldie is all about.
00:30I can't wait to open it up. Let's go.
00:59Ah.
01:01Ah.
01:27So what's new with this foldable?
01:29First of all, just like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5,
01:32we are getting a new hinge on this.
01:34And look ma, no gaps.
01:36Definitely a great thing.
01:37Definitely something that addresses an issue on previous foldie phones.
01:41I mean, it's a hinge that feels like the old hinges on the older foldies.
01:47But again, you don't get that gap.
01:51Another thing that's new, this is now run on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip,
01:55which is the flagship-est of the flagship.
01:58Well, at least this year, flagship phones are expected to ship with this chip,
02:01and we have it.
02:03And then, of course, as you may have noticed, we get new colors on these folds.
02:06This is the icy blue.
02:08I love this pastel muted look. It's pretty cute.
02:11Fits my aesthetics.
02:13But you can also get this phone in cream, which also looks really, really nice.
02:17And phantom black, which is again, another way of saying black.
02:20I don't know why they have so many fancy names for black.
02:23And then there are website-exclusive colors like gray and blue.
02:26I'd personally go for the icy blue or the cream.
02:29Now, in terms of upgrades, well, that's about it.
02:33I mean, okay, you're getting the same cameras.
02:35You're getting the same screens.
02:37Although, again, very good screens.
02:39They're all the same size for both screens.
02:42You're getting the same battery capacity.
02:44Same 25W wire charging.
02:46And you're also getting the same IPX rating.
02:48Now, that being said, though, the Fold 5 is still the foldie to beat in the market.
02:53So, I guess Samsung really was all like, let's upgrade where it matters.
02:57And if it ain't broken, let's not fix it.
03:00Anyway, let's take a closer look at this phone.
03:04So, like I mentioned, it's the same size screen, which is not great for me.
03:09Because, again, I cannot, for the life of me, reach the edge of the screen with one hand.
03:14I have tiny hands.
03:16It is, nevertheless, a nice and responsive screen, though.
03:19Camera count, one up here.
03:21You get that new hinge.
03:23And, of course, the reason for the lack of gap.
03:26Again, the flipping and closing, very satisfying.
03:31On this side, you get the SIM tray.
03:34You get the volume button.
03:36You get the unlock button.
03:38Also, fingerprint scanner.
03:39At the bottom, speakers, USB-C.
03:42And up top, speakers.
03:44And I will tell you what you won't find.
03:46It is the gap.
03:48There is no gap.
03:49I can't tell you that enough.
03:51On the back, you get those three cameras.
03:54So, two, three, four.
03:56Four cameras now.
03:58See this texture?
03:59I really, really like.
04:00We don't get this on the new Flip phones.
04:03So, this is very similar to the frosted texture I got on my Z Flip 3.
04:08I mean, you still get smudges, but not as bad as if it were glossy.
04:13Unfolded.
04:14Again, that's the same size screen.
04:17Feels nice.
04:18A lot of real estate.
04:19You get that taskbar at the bottom.
04:22And let's not forget because we don't see it, we don't notice it.
04:26There's an under-display camera up here.
04:29Do you see that?
04:30Certain angles will show you, but in a general sense, you don't really see it anymore.
04:36There we go.
04:37Do you see where it is?
04:38Still no?
04:40There it is.
04:41Quite interesting how it literally disappears.
04:45And by the way, camera count 5.
04:47So, once I pull up an app here, you can see that taskbar at the bottom.
04:52More space for more apps now.
04:54And when you press here, you can get to apps.
04:57So, for example, I would like to go to YouTube.
05:00Let's say I want to watch my latest video, but at the same time, I want to check my, let's say, calendar.
05:07All you really need to do is press and hold.
05:11You get this little window.
05:13You can also move this around.
05:16And this also gives you options.
05:18So, you can do split screen.
05:20You can switch it around.
05:21You can also move the border depending on how you'd want to look at your multitask options.
05:29I believe you can also do three apps at the same time now.
05:34So, look at that.
05:35I can watch a video as I check my calendar, as I look at all the other photos that I have on my gallery.
05:45At the same time, of course, you already know this.
05:48You can launch two different apps at the same time.
05:51I'm being redundant, but you get the idea here.
05:54Of course, with that great big screen, it is compatible with S Pen despite it not having a slot for an S Pen.
06:02Now, let's look at the many ways you can shoot with this form factor and the many cameras on this phone.
06:08Now, to recap, three cameras on the back.
06:10A 50MP main, a 12MP wide, and a 10MP telephoto which does 3x optical zoom.
06:18Up front, this is a 10MP selfie camera.
06:21Hey!
06:22And finally, up here is that disappearing under display camera.
06:27Now, you see it.
06:28Now, you don't.
06:29Now, you see it.
06:30Now, you don't.
06:31Now, this is a 4MP camera.
06:34It's not the best camera, let me tell you.
06:36But the fact that it disappears onto the screen, I'm gonna give it a pass.
06:40Now, with those multiple cameras come multiple use cases.
06:43So, first of all, this in itself can do a wide and a non-wide and or a video.
06:50And you can switch around the size of the video as well.
06:54But that's not the point.
06:55Because it does fold, I can stand it up and shoot a photo or a video this way.
07:01But even better, I can flip to the rear cameras.
07:05The cameras that are the best on this phone and stand it up this way.
07:10And I'll be able to shoot without issue.
07:13So, that is a 9x16 shot.
07:15So, I can shoot a TikTok, stand it up on a table, stand here, and shoot a whole ass TikTok without even using a tripod.
07:23But that's not the best part.
07:24And this shoots up until 8K because you're using the main cameras now.
07:29And if I wanted to shoot, let's say, a YouTube video, I can just do this.
07:33And I get a 9x16 frame.
07:35You also get your preview here.
07:37So, when you do fold the phone, it fits to whatever folded form factor is there.
07:42Of course, for the Instagram boyfriends, you can also turn on the cover screen preview.
07:48Off.
07:49On.
07:50Off.
07:51On.
07:52Off.
07:53On.
07:54So, I can basically take someone's photo and they can see how they're framed.
07:58And you can say, go take my photo and it'll be perfect.
08:01But also, oh look, even if it's not folded, it does the capture view.
08:05Anyway, that's not the point.
08:06The point is, it can also, if I do this, give you the most powerful selfies with a cover screen.
08:14At this point, you're now doing selfies with the main cameras.
08:19Because you can do them with all three and shoot with a cover screen preview.
08:24It's way easier.
08:25So, like I said, I can just prop it up this way and I can shoot myself without a tripod.
08:31I can shoot my photos.
08:33And not only that, of course, you still have, let's not forget about it just because it disappears.
08:39You also still have your last camera on here.
08:42And again, I know this is not the best camera.
08:46But imagine being on, let's say, a video call or a Zoom call.
08:51You can prop it up this way and have stuff on your phone.
08:56Check it, talk, see yourself.
08:58It's perfect.
08:59That's pretty useful.
09:00Again, not the best camera in the screen here.
09:04But the fact that this is a possibility, this is a use case for your camera, it works out.
09:11Anyway, let's do some quick sample shots from this phone.
09:14Well, last thing and before I forget because I almost stood up and forgot to mention this.
09:18You can, of course, shoot this way as if it's a candy bar phone.
09:23Let's get to the samples.
09:26Alright, that was our first look at the Samsung Z Fold 5.
09:44Let me know what you guys think.
09:45I mean, personally, there's not a lot new with this Foldy.
09:50Like I said, it did improve on the hinge which, as you can see, it folds flat now.
09:54That's a big deal.
09:55And yes, it did upgrade the processor into this year's powerhouse as they should.
10:00And you can say that they did upgrade on stuff that matters.
10:04But like, that's it.
10:05But then we can argue that despite this Foldy being the powerhouse that it is,
10:09we want more on this Fold.
10:11Like better cameras.
10:13Similar to the S23 Ultra cameras would be nice.
10:15Or bigger batteries.
10:17Faster charging.
10:19But then on the flip side, flip side, get it?
10:21Would it really be fair to demand that much from the latest iteration of the Fold
10:26which is currently in the market, the Foldy to be?
10:29I mean, as a consumer, yes.
10:31But would it be fair to nitpick on the things that they're not upgrading
10:35when, again, they are in the market, the smartphone Foldy to be?
10:39I mean, even and especially factoring how well this thing works hardware plus software-wise
10:46compared to the other Foldies in the market.
10:48What do you guys think?
10:49Of course, it's just my first look so let me know in the comment section below
10:53what you'd want to see me do with this phone.
